Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to the Football Daily podcast with Aaron Paul. Hello and welcome to the Football Daily podcast where it's been an incredible night for Scotland at Hamden Park. Finished. Scotland three, Greece, one in their World Cup qualifier former Everton, Chelsea and Scotland winner. Pat Nevin and Scottish football reporter Gavin Wallets were watching and one step closer to qualification for Scotland Gavin. Oh, I don't know how to describe this, Aaron. Unbelievable scenes at Hamden tonight. Scotland three, Greece won.
Starting point is 00:00:29 Scotland had to come behind Simicaz on 62 Christie puts one back at 64 Lewis Ferguson at 80 it's been given to him and Lyndon Dykes on the 90 plus third minute
Starting point is 00:00:39 with a complete mess up at the back between the goalkeeper and the left back Pat Nevin Scotland went down one goal and it completely changed because the first half tonight was a non-event from a Scottish point of view
Starting point is 00:00:51 I've got a slight difficulty here to discover whether Stevie Clark is a genius or he should be wearing a mask that we stole that game We were so hammered by a much better technical team for the majority of the game. But with the changes were made just after Scotland went one down, it was almost a classic rope-pidop. Now, Aaron, you'll remember at a half-time, it said to you,
Starting point is 00:01:12 Scotland did this against Norway. Elling Hallam and off late in the game. Scotland were 1-0 down, and they just went for the last 10, 15 minutes. Well, they've done it again, and it's worked again. It's extraordinary, but it was more than just luck. There was technical good stuff in there. and Billy Gilmore on time and again he got the ball
Starting point is 00:01:32 he held the ball Scotland would be able to get forward and the good players could go on the ball again so technically it was good as well and even right at the end when Carras says come on a real danger man and bow what a save gun made from him when he came on
Starting point is 00:01:46 Scotland brought on Tierney so they had two left backs playing against that one player it was a great tactical battle but only for the last 10 minutes but who cares about that Scotland have now got seven points They've got Belarus at home coming up
Starting point is 00:02:01 could end up with 10 points and almost could be guaranteed second place. That guarantees you a playoff at that point. Absolutely does. What an incredible situation. I would not have believed me. I believed you if you'd have told me this 20 minutes ago.
Starting point is 00:02:16 This is just unbelievable. Hamden is rocking. It was really quiet tonight, Pat Nevin, at the start. And rightly so, one of the things that we noticed in the first 25 minutes, Scotland only actually made one pass every two minutes. That's how under the Kosh, Scotland, where tonight, 80% versus 20% possession. Aaron mentioned the XGs at halftime as well.
Starting point is 00:02:36 But that there was an inspired second half performance after they went 1-0 down. You know, a lot of people talking now about the directness of football in the Premier League. And what we're doing now is making sure you can get your free kicks, your corners, run balls into areas, you know, do that stuff as well. Be technically good. But see, we sometimes have to get into the box very, very quickly and go and battle for it, It works. And it works with bells on it tonight for Scotland.
Starting point is 00:03:02 But you talked about the Billy Gilmore substitution. When Steve Clark brought Ben Gannon Doakoff, there was disbelief, disbelief across social media on the live text feed. Not for me. You're a believer. You're very much a believer. But, I mean, he made the difference skill
Starting point is 00:03:20 and he controlled that midfield and just changed the dynamic. Yeah, look, it wasn't working for Gannon Dock. He was playing the left-hand side. and as some wingers who can play both sides he's not really suited to it he's suited to playing on the right-hand side and he can go by people and use his right foot
Starting point is 00:03:34 so either you move him to the right or else to take him off and get some sort of control of the game and that's Stevie Clark who's big decisions to be made I'm not surprised I mean a lot of people would have been shocked by it because he looks really lively
Starting point is 00:03:49 and he's a very very good player Gannon Doke however as you heard from me from halftime and even before it Gilmore was the one that was needed for Scotland. He'd come on and just his control of the game totally changed it. Scotland just looked totally different. They had utter belief.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Suddenly the players that you hadn't heard talked about the entirety of the game started playing with their own sales. McTominy, he arrived on the seam and every single player just got a little burst of energy just for that little change. So, you know, it's a big call by Stevie Clark.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Had it gone wrong, trust me, he would have, as you know, he would have been battered in social media, He'd have been barred everywhere. He'd have been barred in the press. I have to say, when he made that change, I thought he got it spot on. Here's Warren Christie and Lewis Ferguson.
Starting point is 00:04:35 Yeah, massive win. You know, we're not naive enough to know that we definitely weren't at our best tonight. I think we needed to remind ourselves at half-time and it was still nil-nil, because you almost went in, feeling like the game was gone. I think the reaction going 1-0 down was brilliant,
Starting point is 00:04:51 especially when you think of the reaction we had in March, we kind of fell away and we did the opposite tonight. We saw your emotion when you get a goal and get Scotland back into the game. What was going through your mind? It's been a while since I've scored from my country, so it's nice to get another goal and just get us back in it because we know how important is to get three points
Starting point is 00:05:12 when we play Hamden in this group. So two massive games. That's one ticked off and onto Sunday. Lewis, let's bring you into it as well. You pop up with that another crucial goal as well. What does that mean to you? Yeah, it means everything, obviously, first Scotland goal. like Ryan said, I've actually not scored for a long time so it feels nice
Starting point is 00:05:29 and yeah just delighted to get the win it's so important as Ryan said playing here at home in front of our home crowd you know it's so important to pick up maximum points and thankfully we did that I think I'm right in saying that you're now not going to make Belarus because you're going to be suspended but how big is that game in terms of hopefully reaching these World Cup finals yeah it's massive you know this game probably means nothing if we don't go and win on Sunday so it's so important like we said playing at home you know we need to pick up maximum points
Starting point is 00:06:01 so you know we'll rest recover and we'll look to go and do that Gavin everyone talking about a robbery Michael Stewart has said on BBC Scotland it's one of the biggest robberies out there but again it's Scotland making use of what they've got it shows how important set pieces can be in modern football and for Lyndon Dykes how important it is to chase someone downplay to the whistle you've seen that goal now and you see the fact that the ball just comes over the top
Starting point is 00:06:26 and he has got no right on this earth to bring that down the way he does. The goalkeeper gets all mixed up as well. So to Lillis and then Constellius at the back, just couldn't completely, they just don't talk. But then that's because you're chasing the ball down, never give up on it. I hear players time and time again
Starting point is 00:06:42 when I talk to them out with saying, just gamble, gamble, just go for it. And then that's what happens. The goalkeeper tries to keep it in, he spills it, and because he's gambled, he's there, and it makes the result look even better than what it is, especially when you see what Denmark wants.
Starting point is 00:06:56 by tonight. It just gives another cushion over the likes of Greece and obviously Belarus below as well. So that's the biggest thing I think that Pat and I are really pleased is the fact that the belief was there and they didn't give up and it was that never say die attitude but you know I think I might need to go in A&E and have my heart checked out after that tonight. Just go and watch at Lyndon Dyer's goal wherever you can find it. Just watch it in slow motion because it's when the defender then looks at the goalkeeper puts his arms out as you see Linden Dikes going puzzle, go, what are you doing? What's going on? Why didn't you hold on to it? And Dykes, great
Starting point is 00:07:28 finish for him. And Pat, we talked earlier on about Scottish strikers for him really big. First international goal in over two years is confidence needed boosting. And that'll be a massive boost going into the game early next week. We're odd in Scotland with the national team. We've got used to the fact that we don't expect us strikers to score many goals. We know that somebody else will have to do it sometimes. They get almost a battering ram sometimes or a hold-up player. or somebody who stretches the game. So there's technical sides to the centre falls that Scotland sometimes play.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Yeah, they'll get the odd goals, but they'll not be consistent scorers all the time at this level. But they make space for others because they will chase, as you say, everything down. So it's a big... By the way, you say, watch that in slow motion. It happened in slow motion.
Starting point is 00:08:13 Certainly for the goalkeeper, but it was in slow motion. It was the weirdest thing, because what's happened, the thinking is, it doesn't indicts gets a toe on it, brings it down. Defender has a touch.
Starting point is 00:08:23 goalkeeper is in two minds should I actually pick this up or is that really a back pass so he's in two minds and he's sliding at the same time I tapped you at the time and went something's happening here I have to say it was extraordinary
Starting point is 00:08:36 and we can pick it apart I am really looking forward to what Stevie Clark says about this here's the Scotland manager Steve Clark I think on the performance side you have to understand how hard we worked out of position to limit a very good Greek side
Starting point is 00:08:51 to a lot of chances and then when they scored the goals to be honest the shackles came off a little bit we seemed to find half a yard in our press we seem to run a little bit harder obviously getting the goal quite quickly after they had scored was important to us and then from there I think we
Starting point is 00:09:07 finished the game strong yeah that showed great character didn't it to get back into the game so quickly that's where this group of peers they're all about they understand what they have to do they work hard and like I said the Greeks had a lot of the ball first half
Starting point is 00:09:22 they looked as though they were dominating the game which they were in possession but they weren't open as they weren't carving as open there was no big save for Angus he made one late on 2-1 in the injury time but that was really his only big save of the game so what you have to do is understand that football's a 90-minute game or now it's even more than that it's probably 99 at the time you had on the extra time in the first half and the extra time at the end of the game and you have to you have to make sure that you come out with the positive result at the end and 3-1 probably flatters a little bit but sometimes you
Starting point is 00:09:52 you earn that result with the work that you do. It's work, it's not pretty work, it's untidy work at times, but we're doing enough to win again. What does a win like that do for the morale and the belief within the squad? It gives us three points, one step closer to what we want to do. We have to go away now, rest, recover, and make sure that we get the three points on Sunday against Belarus. Yeah, that becomes obviously the main focus now.
Starting point is 00:10:18 How is everyone looking ahead of that one, a couple of players picking up yellow cards, which obviously means that they'll miss out the likes of Lewis Ferguson, for example. Yeah, Lewis and Ryan Christie both picked up yellow, so they'll miss out. Iron Hickey's picked up a small injury, I'm pretty sure we'll roll them out the next game as well. So I've got a little bit of thinking to do tonight in terms of how we've pad the squad out. But listen, it's part and parcel of the qualification process, the ones that need to come into the team. I'll be ready to do the best I can. A big incentive though, big carrot for the players
Starting point is 00:10:51 because obviously if you get the win against Belarus and if Greece don't get the win in Denmark you're definitely secured a playoff. Well we can only concentrate on ourselves so we don't worry too much about the game in Copenhagen we have to win here, we have to get three points and then we'll see what the situation is after that. Pat Scotland taking on a disheveled Belarus side
Starting point is 00:11:13 beaten 6-0 at home by Denmark. Rasmus Hoyland with a brace. Patrick Dorgue getting a goal in there as well. What Scotland will turn up when these two teams take to the pitch at hand in 5 o'clock Sunday? Look, I've known Scotland in the past and played in Scotland games when we've made a mess of it against the easiest team in groups. I don't see that happening. I've watched Bellewish quite a few times.
Starting point is 00:11:37 They are not a particularly good side. Scotland have got the bit between their teeth now. You know, they've got, if you walk away after four games and have 10 points out of 12 in a group that you are third favourites in, they're not going to let this go so they will turn up they've got lots of players who didn't play in a full game tonight
Starting point is 00:11:53 hopefully there's not too many injuries as well I've got real trust and belief in Stevie Clark and these players to be able to do it and also they've got a number of different ways that they can do it they've got a number of different players just in front of us we've just seen the group board coming up and it's such a lovely
Starting point is 00:12:10 thing to seize the gold difference Greece out of mine is one in Scotland are at four so many things are in Scotland's favour just now but am I worried about bit of Della this game. I'm not worried about it. What I'm worried about is the fact that Scotland are going to have to keep on doing and doing this and keep on being lucky. I hope they don't have to. It can be good sometimes. Gavin Pat, thank you so much. There'll be some sawheads in Glasgow tomorrow morning. Scotland, 3-1 winners over Greece on a mad night at Hampton Park.
Starting point is 00:12:48 Live Sports WSL And what a game of football It is to kickstart this new WSL season That's the only goal And she is able to just pick her sport This way past the best
Starting point is 00:13:02 Goalkeeper in the division BBC Women's Football Weekly The latest news, insights and analysis from across the women's game Lucy Bruns, welcome back What one lioness do you think would make the best rugby player? Me? Listen.
Starting point is 00:13:15 With the BBC Sounds app This is the Football Daily podcast with Aaron Paul. Here at Wembley though, goals from Morgan Rogers, Olli Watkinson, Pekiah Saka, have given Thomas Tuchles England a 3-0 win over Wales. Straight to you, Stephen Warnock. Talk to me through that performance.
Starting point is 00:13:34 Bit of a gear change in the second half, but nonetheless, resolute, determined, and really excellent in the first half, England flying out the traps. Yeah, job was done in the first half, Aaron. It was about the attitude and the application to start the game quickly to show your quality and almost have an arrogance about you to say we are the better team but this is why we were the better team I thought the work rate off the ball was was incredible from the England players and it sort of epitomised the performance on a whole I thought overall England were comfortable job done at half time Danny over to you and you see those Wales players heading over to that red wall which has a few bricks missing right now but the noise they've made they need to to take heart, especially after that second hour performance?
Starting point is 00:14:20 Yeah, they do. And you can see from the reaction now that, you know, they know the big game is coming next week. You know, obviously travel down in great numbers with their amazing support that they take everywhere. The boys will be disappointed. They've not given more to shout about tonight, of course. But, you know, the bigger picture is obviously the main thing.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Morgan Rogers is in the tunnel here at Wembley with John Murray. Yes, Morgan Rogers waiting patiently, but I guess probably Morgan. You don't mind waiting a little after the night. that you've had getting your first goal for England in a performance like that, particularly that first half? Yeah, not a bad night for sure.
Starting point is 00:14:55 The way we came out the trap, so we were on the front for, our intensity, our physicality, I think we're really good and I think that's what we wanted to do, wanting to set off on the right foot, continue from the last camp and build on it. I think we did that.
Starting point is 00:15:08 I think we're outstanding on it. Maybe a bit in the second half probably dropped off of a touch, but ultimately it's about winning the games and about playing with each other and getting rhythm and momentum. and that's what we're doing. And that was the message, wasn't it?
Starting point is 00:15:19 The continuity to build those relationships, even though you had to make the four changes. So it's a slightly different team, but you did that? Yeah, it's a different team, but it's the same ideas. It's the same mindset. It's the same thought and the same way we want to play. So the players that come in, the players that don't come in, we all know what we're doing,
Starting point is 00:15:39 and we're just doing the same thing as each other, and we're feeding off each other, and it's a lovely place to be, it's a lovely environment to be. It's very nice to play for this team. In Belgrade, three of the guys got their first goals for England, and yours has finally arrived. So ninth appearance, you've had a wait a little while, but it's come. So talk us through it.
Starting point is 00:15:58 What did you see of it? Not much, to be honest. It just kind of hit my phone went in, just deflected in. That feeling to hit the back of the net was a lovely feeling. Yeah, probably eight caps too long, but yeah, it's nice to get one, hopefully many more. Yeah, but every young kid who wants to play football, that's what you dream of, isn't it? Yeah, exactly that. Just making sure I get that goal, making sure I'm a threat in the box,
Starting point is 00:16:20 my threat to the opposition any way possible. And, yeah, to get that goal is really lovely. What's it like for you being a part of this? You've played in all of Thomas Tuchel's matches, haven't you? You know, there's great faith being shown in you. You know, he clearly believes in you. Yeah, it's a nice feeling. It's a nice moment.
Starting point is 00:16:36 When he came in, I felt like it was kind of a fresh slate for everyone and just whoever's performing, whoever's showing. And I'm just trying to do the same. There's probably 40, 50 players across the country. country that are all just trying to show what they can do and what they're about and yeah it's an honour it's a privilege to be here and to be in the squads and I just want to keep that and I want to maintain my performances for here and also at club that I'm in and around it and I'm playing games and I'm having an effect on the team and that's ultimately what I want to do
Starting point is 00:17:03 must be nice to feel that you've got the faith of a coach of his standing yeah of course you see what he's won you see his credentials and he's coming here and he's got his ideas and his way of playing and to be able to fit into that and to be able to show my qualities within that is a nice feeling but it's just about keep doing it now. Will you sleep tonight or will you be turning that one over in your mind again and again? Yeah, difficult to sleep after games as it is
Starting point is 00:17:26 but when you're on a buzz and it's on such a high it would be difficult but I have to try. Well done Morgan. Thank you. Yeah, thanks for coming over. Thank you. Thank you. There we go. Morgan Rogers. Great night in his career. Absolutely. A job well done for Thomas 2 calls side with some key names
Starting point is 00:17:42 missing. Stephen. Ingram without Phil Foden, Drew Belliam. Jack Grealish. James, Tino Livermento, Harry Kane, Noni Madrake, Cole, Palmer, Trent, Alexander Arnold. The list goes on and on and on. But that first half performance was absolutely excellent. And Thomas Tuchel's decisions in terms of his squad selection, his team selection, but they've been vindicated. It has been vindicated.
Starting point is 00:18:04 And the names that you've just mentioned there could start a match for England, that good, the quality that England have. But he's got big decisions to make. His job isn't to keep players happy. His job is to come in and win a world. World Cup for England and that is the difficult job he's got to do the difficult part of it is is you're going to upset people you're going to get people within the press asking questions about your decisions if you don't win games there's there's fight back towards
Starting point is 00:18:31 what you've done but so far the big decisions he've made have paid off and it's looking I don't want to say very promising but it's looking in a really good shape for England so far time ticking away at hand and Scotland three one up in that game against Greece what a mega result this will be for Steve Clarkside will be back there as soon as the whistle blows the full-time whistle imminent there but I mean when you look at that Wells performance there's just so much to take from it I've filmed that second half they would they would absolutely despondent in the first half Danny it was a real it was an unrecognizable Craig Bellamy Wells performance
Starting point is 00:19:12 When he talked about punch and fight and coming in to have pride, that was a complete opposite. I said it joined comms, you know, I think big credit has to go to England. The way they applied themselves off the ball, really, really suffocated the way that Wales want to play. And, you know, if you're losing the ball in your own half in dangerous positions, it's hard enough. But even when England managed to work the ball up and they had it in comfortable possession, you know, the quality they had on the sides of the pitch, you saw the amount of crosses that were coming into the box. leading to the corners, which then lead to the first two goals, which Wales will be very disappointed, but of course they will.
Starting point is 00:19:48 But first, we're going to go back to the tunnel and hear from Bukar Saka, who's with John Murray. Yes, thank you, Aaron. Yes, another of England's goal scorer's, Bucayo Saka. That was it, that was one of your better ones, Baccio, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, definitely.
Starting point is 00:20:02 It's been a while as well since I put the ball in the back in an England shirt, so it makes it even sweeter. Yeah, since the Euros, since Switzerland? Yes. Yeah. We were saying in the commentary, you have an incredible, that, don't you, have been able to cut inside and score in that fashion. And yet everyone seems to know about it, but defenders for some reason are not able to cope with it. What's the
Starting point is 00:20:25 secret? Why would I reveal the secret? No, it's just, you know, it's natural to me. It's something I've done for a while and, you know, I try to keep the defenders guessing. I go down the line sometimes as well, so you have to keep changing it up so they never know when to expect it. That's all I can say, really. you mentioned the fact that you've not scored for England since the Euros but you've actually not played a great deal for England since the Euros with one thing and another. What is the feel now? You know, particularly having not been involved last month when England played like they did in Serbia. Do you notice a difference?
Starting point is 00:21:01 Yeah, I feel like a team of a lot of spirit. I can see what the manager is building and, you know, everyone's hungry. You can see the healthy competition he's creating and And obviously, you know, we want to wear the England shirt. And every time you train, every time we play, you know, everyone gives their best when we're starting with you're coming in. And I feel that, you know, and I saw it the last camp. I watched both games and obviously I've been involved today. And yeah, they've all been great performances.
Starting point is 00:21:25 So, yeah, we're building something good and it's exciting to be a part of. Does it feel like something's clicked under Thomas Tuckooke? I don't know what you mean by clicked, but I feel that we're progressing and going in the right direction under him. and you can see in the last few performances how well we've played, so I think we're going in the right direction, like I said. And competition.
Starting point is 00:21:46 There is some competition, isn't there? Your clubmate, Noni Madewake, plays so well in the last camp. You come in here. Yeah, there's competition. Club and country, everywhere I look, there's competition, but, you know, like I said, it's healthy, and it's only going to get the best out of me, get the best out of Noni,
Starting point is 00:22:01 or get the best out of any other player in this team because it's not just us that have to compete, you know, every other position. There's quality players, So like I said, it's good for us and it's going to push us to perform at the highest level. Well done tonight, Bukayo. We'll see you in Latvia.
Starting point is 00:22:14 Thank you very much. Thank you very much. There he is. Bukai Osaka, one of England's goal scorers tonight, probably the goal of the night. Absolutely. What a sensational strike it was. Ian Dennis just come back to you, Morgan Rogers there, as well as Bukai Saka.
Starting point is 00:22:27 It just feels very, very positive right now around England. Yeah, I spoke to Morgan last month, actually, and he was saying about, despite his slow start at Aston Villa, that they the message from Thomas Tuchel in this camp now is about ramping up the competition and about delivering with your performances
Starting point is 00:22:44 and John's just asked Bokoa Saka does it feel as if it's clicked? Well it feels as if something's clicked in the last two games because you know that was a big win in Serbia to win 5-0 they carried that on in a blistering start against Wales here tonight
Starting point is 00:22:58 and Morgan Rogers is somebody who I think Thomas Tuchel has got a lot of faith in because if you look back at the his selection Morgan Rogers has featured heavily in that and I think he's he's repaid it as well he took his goal ever so well didn't he Stephen really good really positive I think he's a superb player and it's about when you play for England it's about levels and stepping up to the levels and being able to perform on an
Starting point is 00:23:24 international front and some people can do it some people can't he seems to flourish in that position whether it's the runs off him whether it's the system that he's playing and but you've got to have the confidence to do it. I think he obviously speaks about Thomas Tuchel and being in that system and having that arm round him and giving that confidence to do it. Will there be any concerns in about that second half from England where there were opportunities for Wales? Well, in Thomas Tuchel, yes, because he's a perfectionist. I don't think any, I remember speaking many times to Gara Southgate and he was never happy when they would let in the
Starting point is 00:23:59 opportunity, the opposition with an opportunity because they want the perfect performance every time. But I think there was a fluency and a flexibility about England. They were sharp and they were slick. They were very, very impressive. And now it's all about momentum. Thomas Tuchel has said that England will go to the World Cup as underdogs, but it's all about just building that momentum. They've got the game against Latvia on Tuesday,
Starting point is 00:24:22 where they could probably qualify for the World Cup, if results go in their favour at the weekend. They've then got two more matches against Serbia at home and Albania away to finish off the World Cup qualifying campaign, two more matches in March and then that'll be it as far as games to be played here. So there isn't much playing time left. So these signs in the last two games will encourage Thomas Tuchel greatly. That first half was as close to perfection as you could get from a performance on international level.
Starting point is 00:24:47 The second half, you have to understand that Wales are a got good players. You can't be disrespectful and say, well, Wales should never create opportunities. There's Premier League players out there, they will create opportunities. That's football. So you can, you strive for perfect. You'll never get it. Let's now hear from the England boss Thomas Tuchel. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:25:06 A handsome win or certainly a very good first 20 minutes, the performance this evening. I disagree. Very good first half. Very good first half. I will agree with you disagreeing with me. You got the continuity you were looking for from Belgrade in that performance then, yeah? Yes. Listen, we only had one and a half day to prepare a complicated opponent
Starting point is 00:25:27 because they are so good in their patterns to shut them down like. to shut them down like we shut them down demands a lot of effort and it demands also like a smart approach but but the team approach and the team bought into these ideas they and and they made the effort for each other so another team performance to close whales down in their own half to have a lot a lot of ball wins so I'm very pleased with the performance and of course the result we should have scored more I I think in the first half. You could have scored in the second half
Starting point is 00:26:02 in the beginning, didn't, and then it got a bit stuck. They had a lot of changes, we had a lot of changes and it cost us a little bit of the rhythm. But overall, the next step in the right direction. You must feel it vindicates your policy and your hunch, your feeling that you wanted to go with the same players. Yes, and the question is still why not?
Starting point is 00:26:23 Because they did so well, and now they showed another top performance, so well done. We have now a day off and we will enjoy the feeling and I think the players truly know what they put in this game to make it look like that. This is not easy and then we will prepare for the next qualifier because we want to have the next three points. I was going to ask you, how difficult is it to start as powerfully as the team have done in these previous two matches and really impose yourself on opponent? The spirit is the mindset is right, the spirit is right, so they love to play this kind of football. It's a brave approach and it takes a lot of effort, but they're happy to do that. I think we play like a club team, we play nearly like a club team at the moment, very flexible, but stay true to our structure.
Starting point is 00:27:19 Everybody buys into his role and is ready to do invisible. work and to help each other out and to support each other is very, very good. With Declan Rice and Anderson and Morgan Rogers, they really seem to work together, don't they? First of all, they're very, very good players. They love to play with each other. I think Declan is at the moment on some extraordinary level in club and international. This is really, really outstanding and the intelligence and the work ethic and the volume that Declan puts into every game is just outstanding. Morgan and Elliot are both humble players,
Starting point is 00:28:02 physical players, very, very talented players, and that's a good mix. Everyone buys into the idea. Everybody relies to each other, so I'm very happy, not only with the midfielders, but of course they were a solid block in the middle, and I'm glad for them. But I hear you've also spoken about your feeling
Starting point is 00:28:20 that Wembley wasn't loud enough, Wembley wasn't loud enough for you tonight in the home sections. Yeah, I stand by this statement. I think we cannot do more than being 3-0 up in a kind of a derby. And I would have wished for a bit more support. Even in phases where it gets a bit difficult, maybe in the second half, to really be behind us. It was too much support for Wales, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:28:46 And they were 3-0 down and had no chance. So it could have helped us. could have helped us to get like to regain energy and and and and and but yeah it is what it is and and that's it and and before you go i must ask you what that little moment with craig bellamy you seem to be having quite a laugh together just before the final whistle went what was all that about well i said that's a goodbye and good luck because i was very impressed and we were all very impressed with the way he coached his team they're very difficult team to play we saw them against Canada we saw them against Belgium in Belgium and how much problems they caused and how much
Starting point is 00:29:22 ball possession they had against Belgium so I know how much work he puts in there they're very well drilled team I stick with my statement I told him that he said congratulations I said good luck for your qualifier he said good luck for the qualifier Danny big game for Wales in Cardiff in four days time they take on group J rivals Belgium how will Craig Bellamy approach that and what will it be thinking in terms changes and getting a better performance out of his side. Well, I think we wanted to move on pretty quickly from that first half. You know, and credit to the boys' second half, they dug in.
Starting point is 00:29:56 They showed a bit of resilient and managed to craft out a few chances. Shamely, we weren't able to reward the chauveling fans with a goal that they deserve because their performance tonight was incredible. But no, it's a case of dusting the boys down, recovering well. And we all knew, you know, it's always tough going to come into Wembley to play against what is a fantastic England side after tonight's account, especially. So, you know, all eyes go to next week and what will be a sort of a make or break game, if you're like, leading into them the games in the following months. Danny, thank you. Stephen, thank you. Thank you to Ian and John as well.
