Welcome to the Football Daily, loads of reaction on the way for you from across the Football League.
We will start Sports Report with what feels like the big story of the first Saturday of the new championship season.
Southampton's dramatic late comeback to beat Wrexham.
We've got Charlie Adam, Mark Clement and Cameron Jerome with us on Sports Report.
Mark, we were watching that game.
What great drama at the end and a massive win for Will Still, the perfect start.
Yeah, and I think it probably encapsulated a little bit like last night
with another one of the promoted clubs against another one of the ones that came down.
I think it probably encapsulated the championship, didn't it?
You know, great stories all around.
Rexham with a really strong first half,
looking as though they were just going to have yet another fairy tale part of their fairy tale
and then paid back by an extraordinary free kick
and just a Southampton team that kept going.
In fact, you said to me at half time,
it's time for Will still to instill his magic, so to speak.
Won't your exact words, but it was something like that.
I wouldn't make a joke like that, Claire, you know me.
No, it wasn't. Yeah, that was just me.
But listen, complete turnaround.
Quite magical atmosphere again.
I think that's been one of the constituents all day.
Wherever we've gone, just to hear the throb of crowds, you know, back,
has just been a really
uplifting experience.
It's been an interesting journey for Will still,
isn't it, in terms of being in France
and assistant coach in Belgium and stuff like that.
He's actually only been a manager of a hundred games
or just over 100 games
and he's in Southampton
who's just been reliant from a Premier League.
So it's 32 years ago.
It's a big job for him.
And I think a lot of people would have
you know, there's a lot of noise
in terms of I'm around him being in France
and what he's done.
but to come to the English Championship
to change a team's mentality
from relegation
with the amount of players they're going to lose
and lose Tyler Debriden didn't even play tonight today
probably going, isn't it?
A lot of transfer on him, big player for them.
They're probably still going to lose one or two
between now and the end of the window. It's how they recruit that.
So I think that result today will give them
a real good energy towards what they're trying to do
as a new management team
but also a group of players that are still waiting to see
are we going to lose our best player still
or are we going to recruit
are we going to buy some new players in
because these players need help
and it's good to take that
to change that monkey off their back
really in terms of losing games
week and week out in the Premier League
and to win that first game at home
on the new season
it's definitely going to get them
a lot of confidence for the rest of the season
there's something about him isn't that
I just repeat what I said earlier
that when he first went in at REM
he didn't have a pro licence
wasn't they getting fined
yeah he was getting fined
22 grand
Well, 25,000 euros
per game. So that obviously says something about him
that the club wanted him.
He just, he seems to exude something
which is really interesting, Cam,
because obviously last season
Russell Martin very much was his own man
and stuck to his guns in terms of style of play.
I'm not going to compromise just because we're up.
We must keep playing in an attacking style.
So it's interesting that the owners
have gone with another quite big young character again?
Yeah, most definitely.
And, you know, Southampton have always been a club
but I've produced Academy graduates.
They've always produced good young footballers.
So maybe that's sort of in the thinking.
Maybe like you say about the philosophy of the ownership group,
I know, is it Sport Republic who owned them, yeah.
So I feel like it could be sort of round the Russell Martin mould
in terms of playing and playing style and philosophy,
but just maybe tweaking things differently.
Like you said, he's a little bit of mystery, you know, surrounding Will still, you know, obviously no one really knows that much about him.
He's had like an early introduction to management, but it's all, be it's been on the continent.
But what we did say is we'll be pragmatic.
Yeah.
And we'll adapt to whatever the situation is.
So again, if we have to go long, we'll go long.
If we have to try and play, we'll play.
We should have as good a players as anybody in the championship.
We'll be able to play.
But we won't be silly and we won't overplay.
We won't be naive to know that, you know, when you've got somebody like Ross Stewart,
we know we can actually go up to him
and hold it up and get second balls
what the champion's all about
but not just the championship
every league's like that
so it's just adding different things
to the wheels all the time
and winning that game
will give him a lot of relief
because it's been probably five or six months
now he's been in the job
let's hear from him then shall we will still
because as the guys were saying
they're brand new manager
he's not managed in England
before all his experience
as a head coach
at the professional level
has been in France
he says their fight back today
shows the direct
direction of travelling his leadership.
You know, it's proof of what we want to do and how we want to get there.
I think, you know, Steve O, I kept in the box in the 96th minute
and, you know, somehow scrambling it across the line is a proof of the determination
and the will to sort of, without a play on words there,
to sort of change the dynamic and turn the page
and look forward with a bit of energy and positivity.
That's a good way to start, yeah.
And actually, for a while it looked like you were on the wrong side of the line of
luck today because I think you had two
rather plausible cases for penalties.
I haven't seen any of it back.
I don't, I'll never be one to talk about referees
or criticise anything. I think
we've made mistakes. They probably make mistakes.
Everyone does. But, you know, it's just a question of
keeping at it and trusting what we're trying to do and how we're trying to get
there. And if we, like I said, if we need to be
slightly pragmatic and do things in a different
way, then we'll do that. And we did it. And
it's a good way to start off.
Really interesting. That's Will Stel just sounds a little bit different, doesn't he?
We can also hear from Phil Parkinson, Rekxham head coach. He thinks his team deserve more.
A huge disappointment. We haven't got something from the game.
A lot to build on though from us. A lot of talking points in the game.
1-0. Brian's hardest clean-through and did be fair, the keepers made a brilliant save.
That goes in. It's game over. The stadium starts emptying.
Lewis O'Brien cleaned through. Was it a pen?
Probably I could understand the ref on that one.
But the way the lads have worked today is as a team and structure,
I thought was excellent.
And we're all feeling sorry for ourselves at the moment, as you'd imagine.
But we will reflect on this and improve in areas,
but also reflect on where we've come from a club
and how we've gone so-toe with a team which is in the Premier League last year.
But that's the point, isn't it?
The fact that you were so resilient, you were so strong
and you created chances against what probably will be
one of the strongest teams in the division this season.
Yeah, absolutely.
I think we've hit the bar first half.
Brunty's had a great header, another chance for your kick.
And those breakaways, you know, we needed to punish them, and we didn't.
I'm looking forward to seeing the ref because when Kiefer's cleaned through,
first of all, there was a penalty when he got dragged to the floor,
but then he's cleaned through, and the lads clearly pushed him to the ground
is just about a shoot.
And in my interpretation of that rule,
I need to check it if it's an intentional foul.
It results in a red card.
Now, I think the referee might say to me there was a covering defender coming back,
but Keith is just about to strike the ball on goal,
and he's denied a goal-scoring opportunity intentionally with a push.
So I think when the refl reflects on his performance,
I'm sure that he'll message me or will get some contact from Kevin Friend
that was a clear red.
Mark Clement, Phil Parkinson, looking forward to seeing the referee.
I suspect referee not looking forward to seeing Phil Parkinson.
Yeah, yeah, but again, measured there.
Didn't go too far, did he, you know,
because it's a long old season and people come back around again.
He got booked as well, didn't he, Phil, in the game?
At 1-0-0-0, yeah.
Yeah, at 1-0-0.
So other talks you were telling on the LMA claim to say that sometimes
how you talk to referees and the media and that,
then I thought Phil spoke really well there.
I did, yeah, that's exactly it.
He made his point, but he was considered.
Not going over the top, yeah, it was good.
Yeah, yeah.
I think there's a lot of positives for both, man,
just to take from today's game, to be honest with you, I think, you know, from a Wrexham perspective,
being able to show that you can compete at this stage, I know, you know, there's a fairy tale
and there's a lot of stuff what surrounds Wrexham, but, you know, obviously Phil Parkinson,
don't forget, it's his first time managing the championship as well. So he'll take a lot from that
today in defeat, albeit in defeat. And obviously, for Will Still, he'll take the positives
from the way Southampton have come back. We're going to bring you some live reaction to
one of the biggest stories from the three o'clock kickoffs. That was Stokes, dramatic late
Victory over Derby, and we can go live to the Bet 365 and Lee Blateman.
I've got Mark Robbins, the Victoria Stoke City Manager standing right in front of me.
What an atmosphere, Mark, at the end.
What a result.
Just sum up how you're feeling?
That was good.
I think at the end of it, we can look back on a really good day's work.
I thought we were good.
I thought we were good from start to finish, really.
But we were better, and we got better and better as the game wore on.
And we started to do things more like us and more like the work we've been doing.
in preseason. I thought the goals were outstanding. The contributions both from, obviously,
the goal from Sorba Thomas and from Baker and then at the end, or at the beginning, or the
second goal, I should say, from Devine. First goal from Divine was absolutely fantastic. So I'm
really pleased with it. I'm really pleased with the play that we had and the bravery we showed
because we've got to be brave on the ball and we worked really hard for that and the goals we scored
But again, like I've got to mention Jamie Donnelly's pick out for the third one,
absolutely outstanding.
So I'm delighted, but it is the first game.
And whilst it is the first game, I think also I've got to mention our support
and the way that they got behind everybody today.
I thought it was a brilliant atmosphere, and you could start to feel a change and a shift,
which is great to feel.
And whilst, again, I'll say it is the first game,
nobody's getting carried away with anything.
We've got to enjoy the win.
When you just said it was more like us,
when you look at the game as a whole and what you've been able to implement,
over the summer. How much was it more like you and what you want from this squad and this
team? Good question. I think really making decisions on the ball early but also doing what
we've been doing in training and what we needed to what you need to do to try and unsettle
and unbalanced opponents and I think that we didn't do enough of that because they were
comfortable and they sat in. They play the way that they play and it's really difficult to play
against. We've got some really good experience players there at the centre of defence and I'm
delighted for Divine. I'm delighted with the goals that we score, as I've said, and the movements
that we started to get into, or the positions we started to get into, and the balls that we
started to play, the passes we started to play and receive. And, you know, the case in point
being the one that Pearson played to Baker before he scored his goal, which was absolutely
outstanding. Can we just get a quick word on your summer recruitment so far? Charlie Adam and Cameron
Jerome earlier, obviously we're talking about Sorba Thomas and Divine Obama, who were going to
take the headlines today. But when you look at the
as a whole, happy with what you've been able to do, Mark?
Yeah, I'm delighted with it.
I mean, we've got a, you know, everybody knows where we're at with the PSR rules.
It's, it's tough.
It's been tough for everybody, but the work that's gone in is proven,
and it doesn't mean that you've got to spend fortunes to get good players.
I think, really, people want to join and back a club that's moving in the right direction
and making really good decisions and having good people around,
and this club is full of them and think,
that John Walters and John Coates
deserve an awful lot of credit.
There's a lot of good work going on.
But again, players today were absolutely outstanding
and it's the first game of the season.
I keep mentioning it, first game of the season.
Nobody's getting carried away,
but we will enjoy this result.
Congratulations, well done today.
Thanks.
That's Mark Robbins, Stoke City Manager,
live on Sports Report with Lee Blateman.
I thought that was really interesting, Mark,
especially everything he was saying at the start
about getting back to ourselves
and changing the feeling.
It almost sounds like the kind of thing
someone would say in the middle of a season,
but with what's gone before at Stoke City,
that is a pertinent point even on the opening game for them.
Yeah, to talk about a shift in atmosphere,
this is the eighth season since Stoke City
were relegated from the Premier League
and in all seven that they've been involved in so far,
they've been in the bottom half of the championship table.
We've talked about big-blooded squads.
The greatest compliment I could pay Mark Rosh,
Robbins is, we'll come back to it.
Yeah, because we can go live to the Hawthorne's
and hear from the new West Brom manager, Ryan Mason.
He started with a win and he's with Mike Minor.
He is indeed, Steve, yeah.
I've just asked him off there if he's happy.
He replied, yes, no surprise.
West Brom beating Blackburn 1-0 today.
First game of the season, first game in charge for you,
and it all goes to plan.
Definitely, yes, most important thing today is start the season at home with a win.
We've done that in a good manner, clean sheet as well.
so it's a pleasing day.
You can do all the work you want in pre-season,
but I guess you only get to really see
whether what you're trying to implement works
in a competitive game in the championship.
So did you see what you wanted to today?
Listen, of course, it's nowhere near the end product.
Literally six weeks into something.
But the thing we can guarantee
is a togetherness, a willingness to fight for each other.
And I think we see that.
And probably most importantly, we felt that as well.
We're a good value for the win, in my opinion.
probably could have
scored another one
to make it a little bit easier
but we didn't
Keeper pulled off a few good saves
and then the last 10 minutes
the nature of football in this league
like we've seen earlier and last night
you have to defend your box
and we had men that stood up to the challenge today
so yeah very pleased for everyone
how nervous was it at the end
yeah I mean it's just it's just football
when you've got one goal lead to protect
it's just the nature of how the game goes
you know their keeper come up for a set play
but I never really felt in danger in terms of open play
I thought we worked really well
we protected our goal
we fought for each other
I don't know if Josh had any real
notable saves to make but we just had to
defend our box and put bodies on the line
and protect each other and we did that
so it's pleasing it's pleasing when you come through
the first game in the season winning
regardless of how it looks
because that's the reality
with one that's the most important thing
so the feeling's good at the goal came quarter of an hour in
Isaac Price who I know he's been here six months
but maybe he's got his head down in the summer
really suits your system.
He was impressive today.
Yeah, he had a good game and he affected the game,
which is the job of our attacking players.
Obviously, a bit of a scruffy goal,
but I think outside of that,
you have two other really good opportunities
from really good play.
I thought their keeper pulled off an outstanding saving
the first half to stop it going 2-0.
So he's arriving in those areas,
that's a challenge to him,
but yeah, I think when you win,
it's never about an individual.
There's so many other players that started,
come on and everyone sort of contributed to us winning today.
No complaints about the red card?
I haven't seen it because of how far it was away,
but yeah, if he's on a booking the nature of how it looked, in my opinion,
then yeah, it's probably the right decision.
So, yeah, we'll have to deal with that and move on.
Finally, from me, these are two clubs desperate to get back to the Premier League,
Westbourne Blackwood.
You start with the win today.
Is that the goal coming end of the season that you return this club to the top flight?
And the goal is to build something, that's the reality.
Like I said, we're six weeks into trying to create something.
I'm not thinking of an end product because then you take your eye off the present.
We've got a very tough game on Tuesday night to prepare for.
But to be successful in any team or squad, to be successful, you need it together, no, you need a fire.
And that's something we've been speaking about.
I see and I felt that today a group of players, a group of men, that were working for each other.
and yeah. So it's not always going to be so pretty. We want to get better. We're determined to improve. But, yeah, the most important thing today was to win.
Congratulations. Off to a good start. Thank you very much, Mike. Yeah, Ryan Mason live there on Sports Report. And that's the third manager that we've heard from on Sports Report so far. What I thought is really interesting, Cameron, is actually just contrasting the way these guys speak. So we heard from Will Still, who sounded different to what you hear.
Mark Robbins was kind of his much more kind of strong and definitive and specific.
What did you think about listening to Ryan Mason there?
Yeah, I felt like he was obviously pleased to get the victory for him and the team
of us for him being in his first managerial role.
We'll fill him with the world of confidence knowing that, right?
I'm here on a big stage.
I need to get results.
He alluded to that in his interview.
But also that look, we're building something.
It's the start of the journey.
We're six weeks into it.
We've just done preseason.
It's the first game of the season.
Let's not get carried away.
let's enjoy the victory but look
it's all about us building and moving forward
and you know obviously he's alluded to that a lot
in his interview and I feel like you know
that's quite a mature response from Ryan there
and like Charlie said he's got
good football people around him so you know that
that bitch will stand him in good stead moving forward
I've seen a very experienced manager
and Matt Robbins who's had plenty of games
and a manager that's
very new into management
okay he's a little bit of Tottenham and
first game for West Brom and somebody that's
being in a different country doesn't want to
get too carried away too early.
Mark Robbins has had that
experience of Stoke from the back end of
the last season as well. So these other two guys
are into new
surroundings, but
no, they go around it in a different way and different
tones. There really are
different tones, aren't you? Listen to them back to back?
Absolutely, definitely. Three different tones
in the way they are. Mark's
really front-footed
forward, talking,
knowing that he's done some good business.
Will seems like he's not too sure what's
to happen in terms of a squad and that bit.
It's a great result for them and Ryan's just
new in the door but it's going
to take time for him. So I just think
that each club is going through a different phase
and what they're trying to do
but three great
wins, three
home wins for these
group of players, for the new managers
coming in, being able to then build
for the rest of the season.
But again, it's only one game.
You have to now go and do it for 46
to see you then. Are you get,
of competing because there'll be good times
and there'll be a sudden tough times
and that's when you see what you've got
in your dressing room and also as a manager that's where
you need your staff to help you engage
you and what you are because you'll have so
tough times especially for Ryan who's
relative than you as a manager
Steve I was going to say the biggest
compliment on pay of Mark is he's
a modern manager
but he's still got
that what I call imprint quality
which he's managing the whole
club so to speak the way in which he paid
compliments to the owner, to the director of football,
the way in which he talked about bringing the fans together.
You know, when he was at Coventry,
in a very sticky situation, trying to keep his owner's Sissu
and Coventry then, who were absolutely hated by the fan base.
He managed to quiet in the whole circus.
He's absolutely brilliant at bringing people together.
I know when he left Coventry,
people were literally calling it the club's Princess Diana moment
because everybody, everywhere, throughout the entire club,
was devastated at the departure of this man.
He's just got this wonderful aura around him
and yet I think he's a very modern football manager as well
and he's great with young players.
It's the calm and demeanour as well
the way it goes about the interview.
Just nips it in the bud almost.
There's a little bit of excitement
because they've won at home
when the first day of the season is just like, right,
look, it's only the first day.
Look, we're happy with what we've done.
We're happy with what we've got in the football club.
But look, ultimately, it's a step in the right direction.
and it's an improvement of where we once were
and obviously this is a journey now
where we're trying to get and we believe we've got
the right source in here
to be able to take us on them steps towards recovery
like you say. So three different managers,
three different tones, three different accents.
Let's go forth because newly promoted Charlton
won on their return to the championship this afternoon.
It was thanks to a 94th minute winner at home to Watford.
Here's manager Nathan Jones.
It was emotional day for us today at a football club
not just been back at the second tier
after a long awaited time
but also this emotional day
with the three that we remember today
and it's been an emotional week
a lead in
and look I'm really really pleased
really proud of the group
we kept going
look we had
I thought they'd keep it was excellent today
and he had to be
because we've tested him
on three, four occasions
we should have had two pens
they should have had a pen
but we should have had two
you know there's three still more penalties there
so there's no complaints
or can be any complaints
but I'm really proud of the group
how we kept going
we did the basics really really well today
And look, these are a fluid, fluent, high-profile side
with players that played in the Premier League,
with pace, athleticism, aggression.
Got everything and we demonstrated today that we can cope with that.
Your new signings, you gave five debutants, full debuts today,
but Harvey Neves coming off scoring,
could you have asked for more from them?
Not at all, you know.
Well, I would like to have scored earlier and again
to make it a little bit more comfortable,
but the complex of the game was set up for someone to nick it,
someone to nick it, you know, late on.
And we kept going, we kept making positive subs.
No point did I make a negative sub.
We kept making positive subs.
We kept making those.
And I really thought we were excellent.
We kept pushing for the winner, as we always do.
You know, we're a positive side.
We're not a side that settles.
We're a side that goes after things.
And I thought we were excellent.
I really do.
And I thought we deserved it today.
I really do.

The Football Daily podcast with Steve Crosman.
In League 1, we've got two wins from two for six teams.
So Doncaster Rovers, who beat Mansfield by two goals to one.
Stevenage, who beat Rotherham United by a goal to nil.
Luton, they were 2-0 winners at Peterborough.
Barnsley, they followed up their opening day win with a 3-2 win over Burton,
Huddersfield, 2-0 winners at Redding.
And Stockport County, who won by 2 goals to 1 at Wickham,
having started with a 2-0 win over Bolton,
delight to say Stockport manager, Dave Chaloner, is live with us.
Dave, congratulations on a cracking.
start from what were two very difficult fixtures?
Yeah, thank you.
Yeah, two very difficult pictures on paper
and turned out to be two very difficult fixtures.
Again, this part of the season,
it is about results.
Performance is probably not where we want them to be
and probably ridden our luck a little bit in both the games
and we were like on our goalkeeper making some saves.
But some real positives and the big positive is that we're 100%.
And no one could ask them.
more than that. Dave Charlie Adam here. I hope
you're well. Hi Charlie. Yeah good. Just a quick
one. You've been promoted at every
club that you've been at and this
journey that Stockport's been on.
Is it about
stabilising or is it can
we go with momentum? We're talking about momentum all day
really on the show and can you
go with momentum and try and
be competitive again after
what happened last year? No, no
it's definitely about going
again if we can. I think the big thing
for me has been the players
reaction. Sometimes you can talk about a hangover from the disappointing that we had at the
back end last year because I thought we were great last year. But I think it's probably almost
concreted the motivation they have to want to want to go one better this year. We know that
as good as we were last year, it's going to be a lot tougher this year. There's lots of teams
that have sort of changed their squads and reinvested and will be better than they were last
year. So we know the challenge is there. We've got to make sure we challenge ourselves and that
we're better.
And that will always be the push.
We got so close last year.
So, yeah, this year we're just further motivated to hopefully go better than we did.
Well, to get 87 points in a season like you did last season, Dave, and not go up,
it's got to be very, very difficult to deal with.
And you had two teams in Birmingham and Wrexham, who everyone spoke about all season,
everybody knew how good they were going to be.
I'm really curious as to, given you hadn't a brilliant season with loads of points,
but then weren't able to get up in the playoffs.
What was the task like for you ahead of this season
to try and find the right words to get the players up for it again
after a really difficult end?
I think you go into it thinking that task will be a tough one,
and certainly I thought that that would be the case.
Thankfully, it wasn't.
I suppose you prepare yourself to be able to say things
and put things in place,
but the players have been real drivers of that.
We've obviously evolved over the summer.
some players have moved on and new players have come in and have stepped up to the challenge.
I think the big thing that we've had over the past two weeks is some really good results
that reinforces what we're doing is okay even though performances aren't quite there.
So it will just further motivate us to, I suppose, try and go on beating for as long as possible.
Like I say on paper, I think our first 12 games, I think we play, in my opinion, at least eight that will be in around the top 10.
So it's a tough start for us.
So we knew we had to, I suppose, hit the ground running.
We've done that.
And we can look forward to a really tough game next week at Leighton Orient.
Dave, Cameron, Jerome, here.
How are you doing?
Hi, Cam, oh, yeah.
I'm great.
How are you?
You're right.
Really good, mate.
Fantastic start to the season.
Obviously, you must be chuffed to bits with that.
Obviously, I've seen how you work at close quarters.
Just a couple of questions, really,
regarding the depth of the division this year compared to last year.
I mean, you'd have been many a surprise package to many a teams last year.
But obviously, with the success you had,
and, you know, obviously, going so close in the playoffs,
just wondering how the approach is this year,
knowing that there's going to be a little bit of added pressure towards yourself
and the group and, you know, for the football club to sort of evolve
and take that next step on, really.
Yeah, I think, as you say, we were maybe come a little bit under the radar last year
with, as we mentioned earlier, with the Birminghams and the rex rooms
that were in the division and the teams that have come down from the championship.
We're certainly not that this year.
And as I've said to the players,
and they have ownership for that as well.
We know that we did well last year,
but well, wasn't quite good enough.
And regardless of what you do every season,
you have to improve, you have to get better.
We've had some players within our group
that have moved on and moved on to championship teams.
So there's always the individual desire to improve
and the desire to improve as a club.
In terms of expectation, I think there's always been expectation,
I'll say internally, but externally,
in terms of our fan base
because this club has
like others been higher before
so that will bring pressure within itself
but also a
realism that there can be
expectation that can't turn
to entitlement. We have no
divine right to beat anyone and I think
we remain as humble as we can
in order to stick to what we're
good at and one thing
we're good at is working really hard and
sticking together. Yeah you're good at
promotion as well Dave aren't you? You're good at
promotions. Listen, have you got a formula
for flipping a certain proportion
of you scored every summer? Because you're
the king of refreshing and things
but do you like, no, you've got
to change three of your 11 or some in
every season just to keep it fresh?
Not really. I don't think there's a formula
too. Some things are taking out your hands. So
when you are successful
and do okay, then players that
naturally out of contract will have
suit or some else there that want to give them more money than you
maybe want to pay them and sometimes
that happens and it's happened this season
you'll always look to improve
so you'll always look to in my eyes evolve
we made a big jump last year
coming from League 2 to League 1
changing slightly our style of play
we thought we were really good at counterpress
and playing round teams and beyond teams
and cross the ball an awful lot
we added Lewis Baiton all in Norwood last season
which allowed us to play through a lot more
we added Corey
Corey had a goalkeeper
fantastic with his feet as well as with his hands
so we tried to evolve that
It's been exactly the same this summer, slightly younger with the people that we've, or lads that we've brought in,
but a real emphasis on wanting to be really high intensity that we have been over the past,
but better versions of that, really.
Dave, just before we let you go, I wanted to ask you about how you feel about seeing some of the players you've mentioned
go on and achieve, and obviously Stockport County is your focus.
But the reason I ask is, you were mentioning about the players have come through.
I'm literally watching Louis Barry playing for Sheffield United making his debut,
who obviously you did a lot of work with at Stockport County.
So is that rewarding as well to see things like that happen for young players?
That's hugely rewarding.
And that's our job.
Every pitch that will bring to a player that comes here,
ultimately is about doing the best for Stockport County.
But if we can't be successful, then we hope that, or they have the opportunity
and are given a platform to outperform the club,
you like. And as much as we're driven and we're selfish and we want to get to the club to
the championship as quickly as possible, if that doesn't happen and we get players there, then
we'll have played a part. And that's something that's a cultural thing within the club.
We're not solely based on us doing well just for us. That's the main aim and the most important
thing. But when you see whether it be Louie or Tansol that moved in the summer,
Ethan Pye has developed as a brilliant defender for us over the past few years.
there's loads of lads who will hopefully go on and have careers away from Stockport County
and play at the highest possible ever they can and to play a little bit of a part in that.
But ultimately as well for them to play a part for us,
they only sort of get that adulation and things if they do well.
And it's great to see them do well, and hopefully they go on and prove they can do it at a higher level.
Dave, lovely to have you on.
Thank you so much for giving us so much time.
We really appreciate it.
No problem with all.
Thanks, thanks for having me.
