Champions League debrief with Kelly Cates.
It's been another busy evening in the Champions League.
Wins for Manchester City and Newcastle, a draw for Chelsea,
and we will get reaction to all those matches.
Withers is former Manchester City midfielder Michael Brown,
ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Tim Krull,
and football correspondent John Murray.
And we're going to start at the Etihad,
where it ended.
Manchester City 4, Barusha Dortmund won.
Michael and John, both at the Etihad 4 is the season.
evening. John, what were the highlights on the pitch? Well, halfway through the league phase,
as we are now, there are nothing like the worries Manchester City had in the competition last
season when, if you remember, they only just scraped into the playoff round. Phil Foden was centre stage
tonight, showing more like his best form, scoring City's first and third goals, both sweetly
taken to double his total for the season to four and certainly give England's Thomas Tuchel
Erling Harland, captain against his former team, thrashed in their second goal, and that's him
scoring for a fifth consecutive Champions League match and 18 for the
season for Manchester City, 27 for club and country. But from three
nil up, City wobbled maybe with an eye on Liverpool's visit on Sunday.
Dortmund got one back through Anton could easily have got one or two more, but
substitute shirky settled it in added time for what is City's sixth win out of
their last seven. That's three out of four in the Champions League and they're up
to fourth in the table. Michael, was it one of the rare occasions for Manchester
city this season where Erling Harland, even though he was captain, even though he was playing his former side, was overshadowed by another player. In this instance, Phil Foden.
I think you'd have to say that. I think obviously delivering the type of finishes, obviously Erling Harland is in and around. He did his job just outside that six yard area where he swept it in with that left foot. But Phil Fordin's finishes. He had an early go at it when he just lets it come across him. And you must go tight with him. They didn't do that. And he just sees it, seize the space. First one was power.
the next one he just used the finesse, curled it round the divender into the far corner and then he was off, wasn't he? Then he was playing well. He wanted the ball. He was making crosses. He was making chances and the second one was even better because it was such a tight area under pressure. The second touch allowed it. Right underneath him still managed to dig it out and put it into that far corner yet again. He had an opportunity to score three. He just did everything right. He was unselfish in a lot of his running. He went out on the right-hand side later on in the game to try and see the game out for Manchester.
City, but overall really good to see him. Yes, he overshadowed Erling Harland.
And it's nice for somebody else. He asked me, didn't you, before the game,
Kelly, just to say, well, who else can contribute? Does he need more from
other players? Well, Shirkie come on and done his job and Phil Fordham with that
double was certainly something of a positive. And Tim, good evening. Good evening,
Kelly. I was just wondering, if you come up against Manchester City, you've
got Erling Harland, who you know could score it at any opportunity.
And then you start getting Phil Foden, who's now Manchester City's second highest score of this season.
Ryan Cherokee came in with a lot of influence.
If you've got players who can score from creative positions, you've got an out-and-out striker like Harland.
How on earth do you deal with them?
It's a nightmare for the opposition.
And I've been on the receiving end a few times in my career.
My last game actually was against Man City and I think Harlan scored four.
so I'm definitely well aware of his quality so he's obviously a top top talent and like you just mentioned like everybody mentioned obviously Michael said it before about Phil Foden hitting the levels and the top form again it's it's great to see and it's amazing to see that kind of talent and like you mentioned we're all asking who's going to contribute to support Harland and then I think tonight you've seen a flavor of the strength in depth again I think
It was mentioned before the amount of amazing players
on the bench who can make an impact
and I think you could see that tonight.
Yeah, and it's happening all the way up the pitch
because Michael, you know, you've got the creative players
like Foden and Cherokee coming into form.
Harlan's been in form all season.
Even Tiani Riders, who had a fantastic debut for Manchester City,
then sort of started to just get used to the Premier League a little bit
but now feels as though he's starting to contribute as well
with his second and third assists of the championship campaign so far.
Yeah, he is assisting.
I think it's those breaking runs.
I think that's the difference.
We've seen one at Erling Harland just sort of dinked into him.
He broke right up to the pitch.
He got city right up out of pressure.
He had a great strike in the first half with his right foot,
good save from come over that right hand.
And he was in the area.
So he started really well.
Then he had a dip.
Now he has to find his way back in.
So everybody's got to contribute.
Savino did well in the first half.
He was a great outlet.
He was creating problems, pushing it 1v1s and pushing the ball across in good areas.
Jeremy Docky has been a really good addition.
Yes, he's certainly been one of those last season where he was in and out.
He did some things that were brilliant and then it wasn't so consistent.
This year he's been much more in his flow, getting into good areas.
Mahmush now coming back, being in and around it, could obviously score goals.
I'm not sure what his exact position will be, but he's certainly going to be one of those needed towards the end of games.
He can't play instead of early in Harlan.
you might be able to assist and play in and around him in different
decisions. So lots of flexibility. We've got Bernardo Silver as well.
So just look into the midfield area. We can go all the way around it,
can't we forward and getting in those areas.
Nico's done very, very well, considering there's been no rodry.
He's gone very, very quietly. So listen, they're stepping up,
they're getting better and better. There's still a lot of work to do.
I think you'll see by the manager's reaction that he knows they've got to improve.
And the bigger the games come, he's got to find that answer.
John, it's quite a relief that we've been.
got other players to talk about other than Erling Harlan,
not because it's not fun to talk about him,
but just because it's becoming extremely difficult
to say anything new about him.
I did very much enjoy the detail on the kind of breakdown
of his goals so far for Manchester City.
And just the numbers are consistently impressive from him.
Yeah, and they seem to be pushing on one another, don't they?
The top goal scorers around Europe.
So that's 18 for Manchester City.
this season in 14 appearances for Harland.
Compare that to 22 in 16 for Kane for Bayern Munich.
So Kane just ahead in that particular respect in terms of goals for his clubs,
whereas Mbapé is 18 in 15 for Rail Madrid.
And, you know, why shouldn't it drive them on?
You know, that's goals are, as David Coleman used to say,
goals pay the rent, don't they?
and they just have that hunger and appetite.
Numbers and stats pay the red now, Cald.
Well, yeah, he's doing it.
He's doing it on the pitch
and he's doing it in terms of the numbers, Erlinghalla.
He says that's not what drives him,
but they can't be unwelcome to him, you would imagine.
Look, for Manchester City, the goal they conceded against Dortmund,
and again, we're doing this through the lens of Pep Guadiola's search for perfection,
but it was conceded from a set piece.
It sort of highlights the importance and the increasing importance of set pieces in the game, Michael.
But also, City can be relatively vulnerable from them.
Well, that's it.
I think that's it.
Defensively, what we got to look at from City in regards to the setups.
You look at the full backs, Nunez and Nico O'Reilly.
Obviously, centrebacks experience when we go Diaz, Yosco Vardio and Stones, you know, finding the way around now.
Yosco Vardio being a real, really positive that he can play in both of those areas.
Ignori coming backs.
still defensively, he's got to understand situations.
So there's the tests all the way around.
I mean, set pieces could be things
that they've got to look at and improve.
You can only imagine the amount of detail
in the next few days that they're gonna get given
regards to set pieces and what's needed to be better
regards to Liverpool and the next level.
The detail's never gonna change with Pep Guardiola.
And I don't know, Tim thinks, do you know,
set piece-wise, do you think now defensively,
how was your approach?
How did you learn so much about it?
How did you organise the penalty area?
Yeah, that's a good question.
I think the marginal gains in this era now,
it's just gone so kind of crazy.
Obviously, teams realize how important set pieces are.
Games are won on just one set piece
and you've got these set piece coaches now coming into the staff
and the meetings are becoming,
there used to be a 10 minute chat of the manager going,
right, this is what we're doing.
We're just putting it at the far post
and that's it, but now there's so many different kind of strategies.
And yeah, for me, especially when you look at the teams now physically,
like the land of the Giants, some of the teams, look at Newcastle,
when you have people like Bobman, Walter, you know, they've got proper, proper physical presence.
Dan Byrne, who scored this evening?
Exactly. So if you come up to that,
like Liverpool, have obviously people like Virgil von Dyke.
So as a goalkeeper, you really rely on,
your center halves to help you out.
So what is the challenge there?
What is the setup?
When you say that you're relying for them to help you out,
where do you feel like is a main danger?
What needs to be done first when, you know, in front of your area?
Well, the quality of delivery you see now with Declan Rice and Saka,
it's all about the delivery for the attacking team.
But defensively, as a goalkeeper, I was obviously 6'3, 6'44.
So the manager's always expected of me to come in and help the
defense out. So anything in the six-yard box, they're expected for me to demand that area.
But like you say, the delivery, when it's like so flat and the pace, they're able to whip these
balls in now, you can't just cover everything. So you need your defense, sonal or man-marking,
to be so on point because any lack of concentration you can see in the Premier League, it's getting
punished. Yeah, it's such a huge part of the game. I'm becoming even more important. Here's
Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.
Happy to know just Erling
score goals. Phil is back
and, you know, how many times, how many years
we have seen this type of goals from field.
We miss a lot last season, even this season.
I think it's going to help us a lot.
It's confident to score this type of goals
that is necessary to shoot strong.
It just put the ball to the close to the post.
It's like a pass to the net.
And in that, the field, it's fantastic.
And at the end, we could score more, more goals
and really pleased, because Bafo-O-Wain,
this competition in Champions League is really, really tough.
Always make a good competition, don't tell me why,
but young players and Nico is a top-top manager.
And, yeah, really, yeah, 10 points, and we are four there,
and we are better than we were last season by far.
And we have to try to close it.
Still, it's long many days, Leberkusen, but next step.
And, yeah, really pleased.
And again, huge respect, because just two days before we play
is so demanding team as Bournemouth
because they demand you to be
at limit physically mentally
and many things
and after they play Friday
play here, they're fatigue and everything
so it was tough but we handled it really well
is Phil Forden
at his best? Is he back to his best?
Has he still got a bit to go
to be at his best? This season is back
yeah a season
not feel all of us
who struggled me first
so but it happened
but yeah I will feel it in that level
when playing between the lines in the pockets
and it doesn't matter how to happen.
His first contosh, his turn,
and after his generosity,
running and fighting,
as much feel is happy and love and joy,
the rest, you don't have to say much,
you know, because he's a special player,
but we need his goals, definitely.
And today make, hopefully, the first step to do it.
And, yeah, before the big, big match against Sunday,
it's important to have him back.
Is there anything else he could do
to get back in the England squad
other than what he is doing?
Listen, Thomas is so smart
and why I know exactly what the national team needs
and I think Thomas knows perfectly the field.
So I feel what to do is play better and better and better.
And national team is different,
like, you know, different like I think like a team.
National team is a short time,
it's the pipe of the club, the team and everything
create a team when you are not a team,
you know, because you are not there all together.
every day.
But come on, Phil,
there's no person in this country
and all around the world
that don't know his
quality and ability, but
England is so lucky to have
a mount good players.
So in this position, there are a lot
and that's why Phil had to push himself
to be better and better and better
because when it's going to
be in cold, say,
okay, I'm going to show how good I am.
Just a word on Manchester City
that start to this championship campaign
compared to last season, Michael?
Well, I think we know where it was.
I think it was, we were all looking at the format
and I was thinking, oh, well, we'll have a go.
There's some important league games.
You start a little bit slow at times and the game started to tick away.
But you felt well, well, there's four or five games left.
They'll certainly go on and win them.
They'll get the points and it just didn't seem to happen.
The momentum changed, the worry crept in.
And as I say, you don't finish in the right positions.
You get a draw that you're not ready with.
And when you're not performing, you know, you get put out of the,
the tournament. So I think you look at Pep's reaction. He could have made more changes this evening,
but he realizes that he wants to be right in those top zones. He wants to put the pressure on
everybody else and not be left short. I think that was something that I think didn't really go
city's way. Didn't maybe necessarily be planned in the right way. Pep might say that's a
different different thing. But from covering the games and from looking, you felt like,
well, that league game in the just around the corner is going to be very important. We can't play him yet.
to wait and then they were obviously struggling all around the pitch with
injuries which certainly didn't help the situation but now it looks much more
positive they sat in a good position and now confidence is all around so
Manchester City with a 4-1 victory and Tim as we've touched on already your
former side Newcastle 2-0 winners at home to Athletic Bilbao you were also
watching this game unfold and Aili Barber was there for as Ailey a 2-0 victory
for Newcastle yeah 2-0 victory and deserved really they weren't at their best
Newcastle. We've seen them play a lot better this season, but like was spoken about in the buildup to this game, it's finding a way to win. And they definitely did that. The work great of Sandra Tenali in the midfield was unbelievable. Joe Linton was making runs beyond Volta Mada. He was a little quiet this evening, playing a little bit deeper, but Joelinton making those runs beyond him. And then at the back, they never really looked like conceding partly down to Athletic Bilbao, who were missing so many of their creative players and in the Williams brothers and top goal scorer Guruseta. And
and Sunset, who sort of sits in that number 10 position.
So a weekend athletic Bobao side, certainly in forward areas,
but Newcastle dealt with them well enough,
did enough to get the three points
and to push them right back into that automatic places
to get into the next stage of the Champions League,
which is exactly where they want to be.
So plenty of positives for Eddie Howe tonight,
particularly given how poor they were at the weekend
and bouncing back from that.
Well, yeah, Tim, that was the question I was going to ask you,
was the sort of reaction to that performance against West.
time at the weekend where Eddie Howe was
really unimpressed with his
players. There were Newcastle fans talking
about it being the worst performance of
the Howe era and the fact that
they come back and they win that
Champions League match in midweek and get that
immediate reaction to it. How
important was that? That's
the key. I think the reaction, how
you deal with setbacks like clearly
the weekend, everybody
realizes that wasn't good enough. But to be
able then to do a championship league game
like the hit against Bilbao tonight
and a massive win.
Six English teams in the top 12
is clearly a great couple nights
for English football.
But for Newcastle in particular,
I think the Champions League
fixtures have really gave him that confidence
and the home form clearly
at St. James's has been immense
and I think Eddie is eager
than anyone at the moment to get that
away form up that kind of level as well
because if you kind of matched the home
and the wayform now, I think there will be one of those teams to finish in the top eight,
but they clearly have to improve on the wayform.
Yeah, absolutely.
And in terms of those players that you talked about earlier,
they've got those, oh, they've got really that physical presence,
but they also have a physicality that comes from the fitness levels that's demanded by Eddie,
how Dan Byrne with the first goal for Newcastle,
Joe Linton with the second at the start of the second half,
different goals, but what did you make of them, Tim?
You know what? The leadership in that team. I look throughout that whole core, like even
Kieran Trippier assisting this great free kick again to Dan Byrne, obviously Joe Linton chipping
in. I think it's just amazing experience now. I look at Newcastle compared to two, three, four
years ago where it was all kind of, oh, this is the first time they're actually up there and
performing. It's that belief that they belong at this level. And yeah, they want a challenge
on every single competition
and they are
quarter final in the Carrable Cup
three wins on the bounce
in the Champions League
and yeah
obviously domestically
they have to improve
they know that but
I think they'll be right up there
towards the end of the season
and they just need
the wingers to really kick in
like they have in the Champions League
to do that domestically
and here are the thoughts of Eddie Howe?
We're always aware that
these home games are really important for us
and that puts sort of an added pressure on us
now we go away from home
and of course we've had
our troubles in the Premier League away from home, but we look forward to these games.
I think they're an amazing thing, and we want to be a team that delivers consistently.
It's strong in every respect mentally, because I think if you're just able to lift yourselves
for certain moments, you never know when that side of your game is going to show the negative
side, and we can't become associated with that.
We said at the start of the Champions League campaign, we didn't want to have that feeling
we were just pleased to be in the competition. It's serious.
we want to progress
we've put ourselves in a stronger
position now to do that after the first defeat
but there's still many challenges ahead
one of the things that I saw that I thought
was really interesting tonight so Joe Linton
has been involved as much as Nick Voldemada
but he'd missed a couple of chances
it just took a little bit of
but I don't know focus a little bit of composure
to get that finish and get the reward
for his all-round performance
yeah he deserved it for sure
and he's been up there with the top top players over the last couple years
and I think Eddie Howe was really keen to freshen up the squad
and I think they have this this summer.
There's a lot of talk about the transfers coming in and out
but if you look at that squad now,
there's a real fight for places and a competition there
and I think that's what Eddie wants.
He doesn't want anybody sitting there expecting to play every week
and I think you've got that good mix with that leadership group
with like you mentioned Dan Byrne
Trippier, the midfield is clearly up there with the best midfield in Europe at the moment.
So, yeah, I think things are looking good.
Obviously, the scrutinising the away record what we spoke about.
But I think Eddie would be really happy at the moment with seeing those injured players coming back
and getting some minutes tonight as well.
That was great to see.
Absolutely.
And even with that away record that you talk about, Newcastle find themselves sixth in the Champions League table.
Manchester City in fourth.
after their victory, and Chelsea in 12, after their draw with Carabag.

Champions League debrief with Kelly Cates
Before this season we'd never seen five teams from one country
all win in a single round of Champions League matches
But Premier League teams did it this week
Just as they did in the previous round of games
English sides have won 17 of 24 fixtures so far
That is a win percentage of 71
John Murray, the English teams, seem to be settling in very nicely to this season's Champions League.
Guillaume Ballagay puts it down to sort of less Harlem Globetrotter signings
and more looking at what they need and buying the best, even if they're not necessarily the biggest name.
Well, it's the richest league in the world, so therefore you expect returns.
I mean, look at the money that was spent this summer.
You know, the Premier League teams blew the rest of the top clubs of Europe.
out of the water with the amounts of money that they spent.
And so you've got an unprecedented six teams from one country in the Champions League this season.
As I mentioned during the course of the commentary, do we now think there is a possibility
that those six could actually finish in the top eight in the table and all qualify automatically
for the round of 16?
And I think what it does actually do as well is possibly open a debate.
In the league phase, teams from the same country can't play one another.
Should that change and should you actually be able to play teams from the same country in the league phase?
I know that if I was in Spain or Germany or France or Italy, I'd probably be saying yes, that should happen.
Do you know what, John?
I feel like that's something everybody on the panel will have thoughts about.
John Murray and Michael Brown.
Thank you very much.
Thank you very much to Ailey as well.
And thank you to Tim Kruel for joining us.
Earlier on, Chelsea ended up drawing two all against Karabag in Baku.
Connor McNamara and Leon Osman were watching this one.
for us. Conner, what were the main takeaways from this one?
Well, I think overall you would say that Chelsea are on a decent run now at the moment,
one defeat in their last eight games in all competitions.
They could have won this one, but in truth, they probably could have lost it as well.
It was an entertaining game.
Henson Moresco named a very young team, average age 23.
They took the lead early on, well-taken goal by Estevau,
the Brazilian teenager who's now scored in each of his first two Champions League starts.
He's got four goals in his last seven appearances for Chelsea.
but Carabag are making decent waves through this competition.
They've already beaten Benfica and Copenhagen
and they weren't long equalizing and then taking the lead themselves.
The second Carabag goal was a penalty after Gerrit Hatter was a judge to have handled.
So Chelsea trailed two under the break.
Enzumrescu made a triple substitution for the kickoff of the second half.
One of them was to bring on Alejandro Garnacho
and he got Chelsea's equalizer to make it two-two.
He's quite fortunate, actually.
He tried to pass the ball forward in the edge of the area.
Poor pass, but he came straight back to him
and the follow-up shot was much better into the bottom corner.
It was only his second ever goal in the Champions League
for the former Manchester United Winger.
Both teams could have won it laid on.
Cashchuk sent a close-range flick straight at Robert Sanchez.
And down the other end, Garnacho could have scored again,
but his late scissors kick was saved.
Leon, errors from Chelsea, which led to them dropping points in this game
against Carabag.
Hato in particular, giving away the penalty,
could have given away another one.
And in commentary, you said he was at fault for the first goal as well.
Yes, and even before that, there was a moment he got himself in a bit of trouble.
Geran nearly took the ball off him and actually nearly got a penalty kick.
And I thought that would have been the warning sign for him that made sure he sharpened up,
that he didn't get himself caught on the ball again, didn't get himself in any more situations
where he'd be to blame if anything happened.
But unfortunately, for him and for Chelsea, that that sort of trait,
continued. He got caught
in possession inside his own half and
Duran took the ball off him and dropped the
shoulder, beat toast and hit the post and
Chelsea'll feel a slight
unfortunate that the ball then fell to
Andrade who finished it
for Carabag. But, you know,
that came from a mistake against the runner
player. At that point, Chelsea had started the game
great. They'd gone ahead
with a wonderful goal from
Estebao. It was terrific again
this evening. But they'd calm the crowd.
They were really in control that
the Carabag team had sort of had a couple of goals of trying to be intense against Chelsea
and they just sort of lost their way.
And Chelsea would just start to just knock the ball about and you thought they're going to be comfortable now till half time,
maybe even go get another one.
But in that moment, everything changed.
And because of it, now Carabag had the goal equalizer.
They were on the front foot.
They had all the momentum in the game.
So you're sort of just saying, well, I'll tell you what, let's again not do anything silly.
let's, you know, work our way back into the game.
But unfortunately, for both Chelsea and Hato,
he followed it up with another mistake a few minutes later,
getting caught in possession again, this time on the edge
or maybe just inside his own penalty area,
gave the ball away.
Carabag then attacked after the ricochet fell the way,
and the ball again, then hit Hato's hand to give the penalty away.
So it was a really tough spell that I'm sure he'll learn a lot from
for his career from that first 45 minutes of football.
because he improved in the second half.
He didn't really make any mistakes of note in that second half.
He sharpened up all of his play for at that point.
Chelsea at halftime, we're 2-1 down and we're chasing the game.
And yeah, it was a tough spell for the young man.
We talked about the Chelsea squad before the game,
about how they're young, but not necessarily inexperienced.
And I think that's particularly appropriate for Alejandro Garnacho,
who got Chelsea second.
He's the first player to score for two different English clubs in the Champions League,
while stage 21 or younger
because he's done it obviously for Chelsea
and before that for Manchester United.
In terms of the subs having an impact though,
did Moreska make really good substitutions
or did he get his starting 11 a bit wrong?
I think that'll be the debate
through the course of the next few days
because I think if you don't win matches
you're probably expected to do,
everybody will look at the manager
and question whether he picked the right team
and whether it was the right people at the right moment.
And the fact that he made three substitutions at halftime
having already had to be forced into one in the first half
because of the injury to Lavia, bringing on Kai Sado,
who's obviously a starter,
to then bring those reinforcements on at halftime,
makes you feel that he didn't think that the start in 11 going into halftime
had enough to get him back in the game at that point.
And you do start to wonder whether he put too much youth out there,
whether the blend of experience and youth was exactly as it should been.
There was no doubt, though, for half an hour, he seemed to have got it right.
He seemed to have picked a team that had the quality and had the guile and the purpose to go and beat this Carabagic team.
But you never know until your team comes up against it and they're asked questions and can they get through the difficult periods.
And in that first half, there probably was a little bit lacking of experience to get them through those tough moments.
Yeah, and that experience can be one of those crucial factors,
particularly in terms of these big Champions League away games.
In terms of Chelsea's starting like,
they made lots of changes, Connor, so far this season,
they have used a lot of play.
They have a deep squad to be able to be able to choose from.
But are we sort of underestimating the level of opposition?
Because Carabag haven't been a European giant,
but they have been really effective this season.
No, they certainly have made strides,
and they are not the sort of whipping boy
that they might have been eight years ago
when Chelsea beat them 10-0 on aggregate
and I think their recent track record shows
and look Chelsea won't be the last team
he'll go to Baku
and find themselves struggling
and almost ending up losing the game
what I would say about Chelsea's squad is
yes it is so deep, yes it is so talented
yes we know they've spent fortunes on their recruitment
it's still those smacks to me
of a situation where does Enzomeresca
genuinely know what his best team is
and he will say yes there's various competitions
and we'll play different teams here down the other.
But at the end of the Champions League is the elite.
That is where you want to be playing your best team.
And it almost feels like halftime today.
He's like, oh, hang on, this isn't working.
I need to completely change what we were doing here.
And until they get that sorted out,
I think we're still going to wait to see the very best of Chelsea.
You look across the Champions League and the Premier League,
they're either top or second top in both in terms of the highest number of players.
I think now with Dillat playing tonight,
I think they're now the Champions League team
that has played most players over the opening four games.
games. So yes, you can see the positives of, oh, a wealth of talent, but where's the consistency?
And I think to go through the real latter stages, they might need a bit more of that.
Yeah, 85 changes to their starting lineup in all competitions, which is just, obviously,
I feel it's kind of superfluous to say this, but it's more than any other Premier League
side, which you might well have guessed. And let's hear from the Chelsea boss. Here's Enzo
Mariska. The intention tonight was to rest Enzo, to rest Moe, to rest Molo, to rest more players,
they are not able to play every three days.
They didn't recover from last season.
As you said, the club World Cup affect a lot.
And we try to rotate when you win.
No one mentioned about that.
I know that when we don't win, everyone is focused on that.
But now I think it's important to recover energy for Saturday and go again.
I think it's about all of them.
You know, again, I think we start in the right way.
we were in control of the game
we scored the goal
and then when we concede the first goal
after four or five minutes
I don't remember we concede the second one
so become every time more difficult
second half
I think we were much better
compared to the first half
but again every game I think
it's a chance for all of them
to show the reason
why they are here
there were warning signs
I mean there was no excuse for Chelsea
to underestimate Carabag here they came from
two nil down against Benfica to win three
in Lisbon earlier in the competition.
Will Chelsea Leon look at this in terms of their overall performance
against what's proved to be tough opposition this season?
Or will they just go, do you know what?
It's a point away from home.
There are positives to take.
There's no doubt about that.
The fact that your young team started the game,
positively caught ahead in the game.
The fact that once you fell behind in the hostile atmosphere,
that your team showed enough spirit and enough character
to get back in the game.
and actually we're looking to go on and win it.
You know, you couple that with the fact that it's no time to panic.
They're still very much in position to qualify,
maybe not in the top eight at the end of qualifying.
Maybe they will.
They've got some big games against Barcelona, Atlanta, Napoli.
They could end up winning in these games and getting the results they want.
But I think they'd have expected to win this one
and get themselves into a run of games going into them
where they don't necessarily have to go and win them.
But again, it's no time to.
panic. They are comfortably positioned
in the Champions League. They're in a good
run in the Premier League. They've had a good
run of fixtures and results
of late, even
without Cole Palmer, which there was
a period when we thought that they
maybe couldn't adapt to play without Cole Palmer
and they've managed to do that.
So, certainly no time to panic.
It's probably not the result they expected, but
a draw away from home in the champion
league is never a disastrous
result. That's for sure.
Leon and Connor, thank you very much.
