Getting Naked: The Podcast - Asked & Answered 3 | Valerie Bertinelli | Getting Naked: The Podcast
Episode Date: August 12, 2026Just Val and your voicemails — and this one went some places she really wasn't expecting. It covered everything from what music she's listening to besides Mammoth (Taylor Swift, obviously), ...to how to handle toxic social media (the block button is a gift), to how to cope when old memories and trauma flashbacks hit out of nowhere. We talked jewelry, we talked walks, and we talked about why Valerie's Place exists in the first place. One of Val's favorite Asked & Answered episodes yet.

When West Jet first took flight in 1996, the vibes were a bit different.
People thought denim on denim was peak fashion, inline skates were everywhere,
and two out of three women rocked, the Rachel.
While those things stayed in the 90s,
one thing that hasn't is that fuzzy feeling you get when WestJet welcomes you on board.
Here's to Westjetting since 96.

Twizzlers keep the fun going.
Yeah, I know.
I just stopped whatever you were listening to to tell you that Twizzlers keep the
fun going. Well, irony isn't my forte, but twisty, chewy, yummy Twistler sure is. So think of Twizzlers as a little
palette cleanser for whatever's queued up, which by the way should be coming very soon. Like any second
now. Okay, Twizzlers, time to keep the fun going. Hi guys. Welcome to Getting Naked the podcast.
This is a fun show today. This is just me and you. We're talking. You're asking me questions.
I'm answering. I hope I did well. I do want you guys.
to keep in mind, I'm not a therapist. So, but I do, I have learned a lot. So if you have super duper
complicated questions, please also talk to your therapist and to people that you love, but I'm
more than happy to give you suggestions. Okay, let's get started. I have a really fun recipe for you
today. You saw how easy that was. Look at all that flavor we packed into chicken breasts.
I love the flavor of maple syrup, especially for these kind of muffins. I see all of your comments.
I swear I do. You are wondering, where's my show?
This is so dang delicious.
Smells divine.
That's a jalapeno popper.
Oh my god.
It's so good!
Yes, I'm back and I am cooking for all of you.
All right, Sophie.
What are we reheating today?
Welcome to Nal Vow's cooking.
Guess what we're gonna make right now.
We're alive.
Hi, everybody.

You have to go to Valerie's place.
That's where you can see our book group, this podcast.
That's where you can go for all the cooking
that you want to see.
Oh, yes.
I've missed cooking for you.
I'm glad I finally get to do it again.
I'm dancing.
That's how good it is.

It's happy time.
Hi, here we are, getting naked, the podcast.
Thanks for coming by and watching or listening if you're just listening.
This is, okay, as much, I was going to say it's my favorite way to do these because I love asked and answers.
This is asked and answered.
This is what we're doing right today on this podcast.
although I really do love all my guests and I learn so much from them.
This is for us.
This is between us.
You guys send me in questions, voicemails, and I get to answer your questions.
So I love this one.
It's a special one.
Before we get into today's episode, there is just a quick reminder to stay tuned for the full reveal.
That is a special segment for Valerie's Place members only.
If you want to be able to access the full reveal and get early access to the podcast, head over to valetysplace.com and just go ahead and see.
Sign up. All right. So what are we going to chat about today? I don't know. We're going to chat about
the questions that you have. What's going on in my world? Let's see. What's going on in my world?
I'm just figuring out a way that I can travel more to go see my son when he is on the road and he's
performing. I love that so much. He is going to be taking a long break in August and September.
He's going to be having his cats back.
He and his wife take care of the kitty cats.
Bubba and Boe now belong to Wolfie and to Dreia.
And it's the best.
Let's start by getting into some of the messages that you've left me.
Oh, and the first message is a question about mammoth.
You know I'm going to love answering that one.
Okay.
Now, this is Lauren Ferrar from Long Island, New York.
Long Island.
My question is, besides mammoth, what artist bands are,
Are you listening to today?
And if you were able to, who would you go and tour with?
And what job would you like to have with the band?
Would you want to be a personal chef, their manager, their rodey?

At IKEA, we make things just for college life, like the Rosenmando blackout curtains in gray.
They say you can't put a price on sleep, but we did for the low, low price of $49.99.
Why are you in my room?
Shh, go back to sleep.
You have a big exam tomorrow.
Shop back to school at IKEA.
Yeah.
Correctly that you're going to be doing a podcast from Europe.
I mean, if I had a saying anything, what I would like to see more of is you with Wolf and Patrick, Andrea.
I want to see you in the Torbox backstage.
Oh, the Torbus.
You always think about this when I'm watching an episode of reheated.
It brings me to one of my family's favorite dishes.
We eat a lot of breakfast for dinner.
Yum.
Yum.
hash browns. But what I use is tater tots. So first, I saute the onion and pepper. And then I put
enough frozen tater tots, you know, to cover the pan. Oh, yeah. Well, so the thing is about our
voicemails are only one minute long. So I'm sorry that I didn't hear the rest about how you put
this tater tot thing together because it sounds amazing. But to your question, what other
bands do I listen to? I love Taylor Swift. Adore Taylor Swift.
It's usually mammoth and Taylor Swift that I have listening, or I'll have some playlists put together.
I like Rihanna, but it's mainly mammoth.
Yeah, Mammoth and Taylor Swift.
I'm kind of obsessed.
Okay, so this was probably done before I went to Europe to go visit Wolfie, which was a blast.
I do need to put together a whole role of like what I did in Europe.
And I'll try and cut all that together so we can put it on Valerie's place.
but I did show you some of the things that I did.
I walked up the Octot triumph with my brother Patrick and his wife, Stacey.
I didn't realize it was over 280-something steps before we went in there, and it was so hot anyway.
I'm still glad I did it.
It was amazing.
But I'll put together something.
If you go to Instagram, you can see all of the videos from that.
But I have more stuff that I haven't shown.
Like I went to the Dior exhibit, which was phenomenal.
Stacey and I went to that.
It was quite beautiful.
We went to this beautiful perfume store called Floriku.
I didn't take photos inside because it was such an experience that we were immersed ourselves in.
But I will do an unboxing video for my perfume corner.
And I definitely do need to do more backstage stuff.
I just like to be sensitive to photographing my son, even though he's a public figure,
and photographing, you know, Patrick and everybody back there.
But I did do a quick video of the Summer of 99 festival that I went to visit in Chicago.
You can see that on Instagram, but I'll put a longer, like, Chicago reel together for everybody just specifically for Valerie's Place.
But thanks for your question.
All right.
Let's see.
Next.
Hi, Val.
It's Michael Campbell.
Hi, Michael.
Social media has become so vitriolic that any post seems to generate all kinds of wild emotions.
How do you personally deal with that?
when it's, you know, things that are beyond your control.
And it's just a bunch of yelling back and forth in all caps.
The block button is very handy.
People that come into my world, it's my bubble,
and it's what I want to see on my social media.
I want happy.
I want nice.
I want kind.
So if you're coming in to say horrible things to me or to my followers,
you're going to get blocked.
And I have no shame about it.
Like, you can go off and you can be proud that I blocked you, but I don't care.
And I've gotten to a point in my life, and this might have to do with age, or it might have to do with going through some really uncomfortable, challenging times.
But I've gotten to a point where it's none of my business what someone else thinks to me.
And I just, I can't care.
Like, I would like to care.
And I do care about the people in my life, what they think of me, their experience with me, you know, my son, my, my.
daughter-in-law, my brothers, their wives, my girlfriends, the people I work with, I care about
their experience with me. I care how they feel. I care what they think about me because I want
them to have a good experience with me. But if it's strangers on the internet, I can't care.
I don't think it's a good place of spending, like it's not a good thing for me to spend my
time on. I'm worried about someone upset with a post I made about the state of the world.
and how I wish it was better.
Like, I can't help you there.
If you think the, you know, world's going fine right now, then go on your happy way.
But if you come into my place, my home, and you start making a mess, I'm going to kick you out.
So I have no problem with that.
This is a very good reason on why Valerie's place exists, because the people that come into Valerie's place and build our community,
our beautiful community that's being built, is by people that have.
like-minded souls. We all just want to get along. We want to share information. We want to share
recipes. We want to share books. We want to share perfume recommendations. We just enjoy each other's
company. And that's the way I, that's the way it is in my friend community, in my family community.
Like, isn't that the way we want to spend our lives with people with, you know, that we enjoy each other's
company? So that's why Valor's place is here for everyone to enjoy themselves. Question about
handling difficult memories. Oh, okay. Let's see if I can answer this. Hi, Valerie. It's
Jennifer. Hi, Jennifer. I'm from Philadelphia. Love Philly. I love your book. Get a naked. It's amazing.
Thank you. And secondly, I'm going to really to it. And secondly, on page is 45 to 51 of your book.
If I'm not mistaken, you tell about how your experience was looking at your mental for the first time.
And just reading that chapter reminded me of an experience that I had when I was younger.
And I just wanted to ask, how do you cope with feelings or flashbacks of the experience
that you hadn't let yourself thought about in, let's say, years for the sake of saying?
And how do you, you know, begin to heal and move on, you know, mentally without,
you know, disrupting all the progress that you've already made, you know, after the time it's been.
Wow, what a beautiful question.
And you're right.
Sometimes, like, we think we're totally healed from something and we'll get a flashback.
And it'll feel like it's happening.
Like, it's like back.
It's like not from the past.
Like, it's happening right in front of us right now in the present moment.
what I have done and learned from smarter people than me is to there's a there's a saying that I say that Louise Hay said a long time ago and it's a little mantra that I have given myself during really challenging times and that is um all is good everything I'm experiencing right now is for my highest good and even this particular challenging moment is for my highest good
and I am safe.
So I want to tell myself that I'm safe so that I can hear the words and so that I can feel that
safety as much as I can because I want you to know that what you're experiencing, that
fear, that uncomfortableness is real because there's still parts of it that sit in your body
of the pain and the trauma that you went through and that's normal.
you're going to feel things that happened decades ago and they're going to feel like they're happening
right now. I just want you to hug yourself, tell yourself you're safe and kind of like try
your best to ride it out. Nothing's going to happen to you. You're going to be fine. But your body
just needs to let some of it out. It needs to like, you know those little steam things that are at the
top of a it just needs to like let a little bit of that steam out a little bit. But what I really
want you to remember is that you're okay and that you're safe and that there's nothing wrong
with you for having flashbacks. It's going to happen, especially the bigger the trauma was.
And then also take in all of the experiences that are good and lovely in your life and remember
those too. Remember that two things can be happening at once. But please don't beat yourself up and please
know that you're safe and please know that it will pass. And it really does pass. It's kind of crazy
how it does. But suppressing it isn't going to help it pass any faster. Sometimes just letting your
body feel through it and go, yeah, this sucks. And then just letting it suck for a little bit
until it kind of dissipates a little bit.
And I hope you have someone that you can talk to.
I hope you have a therapist, if not a therapist, a very close friend or a pastor or someone
that you can talk to to help yourself through it too.
Reach out.
Don't do it alone.
You don't have to.
Anyway, thank you for your question.
I truly hope this was helpful.
I have a really fun recipe for you today.
You saw how easy that was.

I love the flavor of maple syrup, especially for these kind of muffin.

Hi, Michelle.
Beautiful pieces of jewelry.
Thank you.
Do you have a favorite designer?
That's it.
Love you.
Have a great day.
Bye.
Oh.
There's a lot of people that I absolutely, absolutely love.
Okay.
If you wanted, the jewelry that I wear, besides my watch that Wolfie gave me for Christmas,
the jewelry that I wear all the time are these two rings. I take them off at night. This is a ruby
ring that was given to me by Wolfie's father, the very first Christmas that Wolfie spent with us.
So this is a very old ring. And I absolutely, it is my favorite ring. I love it. And this one is a ring that I designed.
and I love it.
It's a heart with a couple rubies on either side.
And I kind of designed it to be like a school ring.
And I wear a heart for a very specific reason, just like my tattoo.
It's a reminder to keep my heart open.
So that is a big thing for me.
I don't want to close my heart no matter what you go through, no matter the challenges in life.
I want all of us to still try and keep our hearts open and receiving and giving.
My necklaces, they change all the time.
I have this necklace by Asha Patel designs that I love.
And you can go to her Instagram or I think she also has a website, Asha Patel, designs.
She makes really cool stone jewelry.
I think this is a Labradarite.
Labradorite. Labradorite.
Labradrite.
I can't speak.
but it's like it's for healing and and for um i don't know i just love the way she puts stone so this is
asha pettel i love the way she makes her jewelry and um i have just little things that i like
this little ruby necklace that i wear um i've had this for 30 years and i'll just put it on
once in a while and then this beautiful little cross was a gift from someone i love so dearly um
And I wear it a lot, but not all the time.
Anyway, that's some of it.
Ashtra Patel, great designer.
And then I design this myself.
All right.
Next question.
Hi, Mel.
I don't know if I'm going to call in an X you this question.
I'm actually on a walk right now.
Okay, Mel.
Your first chapter of getting naked has inspired me to do that.
And it's a beautiful day here, I should say.
Good.
However, no thoughts are coming to this brain of,
mind. My question is, when you go on your walks, do you always have, like, deep thoughts or do you sometimes
just, like, walk with, like, the silence within you? Because that's kind of happening to me right now.
I want to know how that goes, because I want to try to do this more for my physical and my mental
health. So, yeah, let me know. Love you. Bye.
Mel, you are so adorable. Yeah, there are some days where I am.
fixing the world's problems on my walks.
And then there are other days where not a thought comes to my brain.
And I'm just like looking at the birds and listening to the birds and watching Luna enjoy herself.
Yeah, a walk can, that's the great thing about walks.
They always surprise me.
Like I never know what's going to happen when I go for a walk.
It could be where I've totally been able to work through an issue in my life that I wasn't able to work through before, but giving it the process and the brain capacity during a walk helps.
Or I can't fix the problem and it might not ever be fixable.
Or I've fixed the world's problems.
Or my brain just goes blank because I needed to not think about anything.
I think you just go with the flow mill.
And that sounds like exactly what you're doing.
message boards question. Hi, Valerie. I go by Cindy Morgan on the message boards. I'll look for you next time.
I don't know about to ask this question, so I'm asking it here. Okay. I love these message boards. I go by
Morgan on there. Anyway, I was going to ask if you could maybe also do a message board on pets, because we all
have pets and we love... When Westcham first took flight in 1996, the vibes were a bit different. People thought

I remember.
Supposedly you were on there.
Yes, I was.
I don't know if it was really you.
Anyway, I just wanted to ask about the pets.
So have a great weekend and thanks again.
Bye-bye.
Oh, yes, yes, yes.
We noticed that immediately that we were missing the pets.
So that is, if it's not up by now, it will be up very, very quickly.
So please feel free to talk about your pets, talk about all the different pets that you have,
talk about how much you love them.
We're working on,
being able to also post pictures because I want to see pictures of your pets.
We're slowly building this up so that we can then respond, reply to specific comments and

community boards up.

It's a safe space for sure.
So yes, the Pets Board, if it's not up by now, it will be up very soon, and we will always
be improving them.
