Starting point is 00:00:02 Welcome to Gone Medieval, the brand new podcast from History Hit that will dust off and polish up some of the medieval period's most fascinating characters and stories, from defining events to the ways people lived their everyday lives. Gone Medieval will whisk you away to the sights, sounds and maybe, sometimes unfortunately, the smells of the Middle Ages. My name is Dr Kat Jarman and I'm an author and bioarchologists, which means I study ancient teeth and bones to and round. all the lives of people from the past. I specialise in the Viking Age and lead excavations all over Europe to hunt down the remains of peaceful and not-so-peaceful Scandinavians. In my book, River Kings, I've traced global connections

I'm an author and historian, and my real interest lies in the Wars of the Roses at the end of England's medieval period. I'll tell you a secret strictly between you and I. Really, I'm fascinated with Richard III. Okay, that's not really a secret. It's what I talk about a lot of the time.
Starting point is 00:01:06 A lot of the time. I've written biographies of Richard III, of his dad, Richard Duke of York, as well as Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and Henry III. I've also looked at the anarchy and medieval rebellions. In our careers, we have truly gone medieval, and in this podcast,

We will guide you through the latest discoveries interrogate legends and bring you beneath the skin of those who lived and died between 80,500 and 1500, as I'm sure you'll agree, the most significant millennium in human history.
