Were you surprised by anything? I mean, obviously, there's surprising stuff that happened. I felt a little validated about my Vikings pick, honestly. And, you know, I'm up here in Minnesota, getting a lot of questions about the Vikings. I've been kind of gassing them, glazing them, if you will. So I've been kind of gassing them up a little bit, and it felt good to see them come from behind and get that dove.

I'm trying to think, man. It seems like Sunday. Did you take the Vikings to win the division? Yeah. Oh, wow. Yep. It feels like Sunday, Chris, was a month ago, maybe. Yeah.

Like, I was just sitting there fucking plugged into the Matrix, four screens, iPad up, texting our group chat. Oh, I actually do have a pretty big takeaway, but I'll save it for America's team, if you will, because I don't want to run my load too early. So. Don't do that. Never.

I would never do that. Cowboys Broncos. did not look the part. They're not the only team that didn't look the part week one. I mean, obviously they have company in the AFC West with the chargers and everything. And, you know,

took some flag for saying, hey, the chiefs are going to be back this year. And we all actually, a lot of us picked the chiefs to win the division. But, you know, I'm not going to sit here and act like I didn't think the Broncos are going to be a good team. I still think they're going to be a good, solid team. But I just thought it was a,

people were making it too big. of a foregone conclusion that they were going to hit the ground running because they went 13 and four whatever it was go back and look at their schedule last year all the close wins everything that had to happen i'm not docking a team for winning close games but what i am saying is if it's not what they do year and year out there's always a chance for regression now this wasn't a close ball game they just got their asses kicked and i before i go into glazing what the chiefs did i think they missed cooper Yeah. You know, I think

I think Davis Webb got his lunch money taken by one of the best D.C.s in the game. Yep. And I think they missed John Franklin Myers and these things are going to pop up if these guys aren't available. But more than anything, I think this was about

the Chiefs. I mean, yeah, Denver missed 28 tackles and the whole thing. But I was so impressed with the physicality that I saw. I heard on the broadcast that it was the toughest camp ever right and andy reed is known to have a tough camp you remember when dug peterson would have kind of tough camps low key and everybody was like what the fuck did because he was so nice and chill yeah he had this players coach reputation but he would offset the camps with ice cream you know so it's kind of like

yeah it well if if i beat the shit out of you for three hours if rita's water ice pulls up with a with a with a truck in the parking lot like you won't notice and it kind of worked for a while But then, like, I looked up one day and I said, like, damn, we ran like 100 plus plays today. Like, where does he get that? And it's the Andy Reid thing. I mean, Andy Reid's camps are notoriously tough. But they say this year was the toughest one. And with Eric B. NME back in town, I just felt like they were going to circle the wagon, so to speak.

And they played like they practiced. Allegedly, that's how they practiced. Didn't I tell you all this shit matters? 53 runs plus completions, which is some old school coaches like, to cite runs plus completions pretty good against the Denver team like that especially when 38 of those runs the 38 runs went for 220 and basically the completions were runs because they were all screens and checkdowns I mean he barely pushed the ball on the field honestly my homes didn't look great well he looked pretty good scrambling at times Chris I was like I don't know how

no I understand what you're trying to say I'm just saying like still he doesn't look like himself it's still early obviously that no question and I was just impressed by his willingness to scramble, put his fucking body on the line. He's a bad boy. And he's got that little uncanny knack for just like having that weird wiggle. Like he didn't look fast. Okay. He didn't look fast, but he makes dudes miss.

But every time he scrambles, I'm just holding my breath because I'm expecting him to get smacked. And he never does. It's crazy. Well, the first one is because Kelsey kind of closed line whofanga, which was actually a good business decision. Bro, they can't call a hold on America's sweetheart. What are you talking about? No, they can't do that. That's bad for TV rated.

And they miss all types of calls, but of course they miss that call. And everybody's like, C, see, see, there you go. You know, like, but, but I thought just, I'm not nitpicking. Mahomes looked a little off. And it's early. He's nine months off in ACL, not just an ACL. You know, he did the whole thing. I mean, what else do he do? He did ACL and LCL or something like that. Like all the Ls. Once you get to the second L, you kind of lose me. And I don't really know what that means. know it's not good. And I thought even when he took off in the red zone, he looked a little like slower than he would last year. But you know, it's never been about straight line speed with him. It's his vision. It's the athleticism. And shit, they ran speed option with him at

one point. I saw that. Yeah, I have that my notes. They ran speed option. It was like second and seven or something like that. Yeah, it wasn't a got to have it situation. It kind of felt like they were like, hey, you know what? Like, let's see if you can run. But, but the, the big story is obviously Kenneth Walker and you know I think a lot of people for a while kind of devalued the running back position and you know it was almost like a cardinal sin to throw assets at a running back and I think this is a situation whether you think that's true or not that it absolutely helps like if kenneth Walker weren't on the field that offense would look like 2003 and I mean the bad part of 2023 when people said they're dead they couldn't they couldn't move the ball outside they couldn't throw the ball

I didn't, they barely tried to. They didn't have to. But they have two backs now, not just Kenneth Walker, that can hurt you and chunk off explosive plays. They had as few explosive runs as anybody in the league last year, I feel like. And Kenneth Walker on that 60-yard run shows you why it's so important having him because they're going to get in these heavy sets. They're getting this like jumbo jet formation with like eight offensive linemen and Tonga. And what it does is, and you can speak to this bow, but like, it creates a lot of little gaps. Yeah.

And he's a patient runner. And if anybody's on a different level, he's going to find the seam. So quiet as kept last year, 80% in short yardage last night. 80% in short yard is that held true in that matchup last year. But the thing that, you know, ironically carried them to victory for a guy that was, all we talk about is the bounces. It was his patience between the tackles. That 60-yard run is always going to be there, and that's what makes him great. But the other thing that makes him great is him finding those little windows, those creases between tackles.

Yeah, I mean, especially, I mean, you said it, dude. He hits those home run shots like that 61-yard or 60-yard or whatever he is. And he's so patient. Like, there are times that he almost felt like Levi-on Bell, you know, from back in the day. But to me, like, I, you know, a big part of this, you just talked about the run game, K-9, as they're calling him. he's a dog but uh the interior we've known that the interior the chief's line is really good like i think we interviewed tray smith at some point this off season we know creed humphre's really good but like the edges were you know a little bit of a question mark for the chiefs but i thought those dudes held

up really good dude what's his name benson i don't look him up a little bit because i didn't know anything about him they talked a lot yeah they like they like the kid and it was a big spot start for him at left time i mean you know he had a lot of help he was getting chips and they were lining up I mean, obviously with, you know, Denver's edge rushers and the talent that they have there versus an undrafted free agent rookie, you know? That's why Cooper being out is so important because, you know, you only have one stud to worry about out there. And I thought Benson, who looks to me like a 2008 vintage right tackle, those are the types

of guys that when I got in the league, the big long punchers, big heavy dudes, he reminds me of one of those guys. I think ideally he's a right tackle. And I think when Simmons gets back, he's obviously going to play somewhere else. And when Simmons gets back, things change a little bit. But Benson did, you know, because at first I'm watching the game early and they come out and they run the ball, run the ball, run the ball. They're tiring the front out. The minute 15, Benito leaves the field, they're throwing the football.

So at first I was thinking to myself, oh, they're just going to, they're going to keep an eye on subs and really be conservative today. but eventually they let the guy get, and albeit some of it was quick game, some shots at Benito one-on-one. What he did well enough is he's so big and long and strong that he can set you inside out on a guy like Benito who really, I'd like to see him show that guy a counter. He sets him inside out and almost lunges at him and gets enough on him knowing that Patrick can see that rusher

and feel that rusher. And that's the thing. when Simmons comes back, because of the way Patrick Mahomes has dropped target customarily is, which is a moving target and it moves backwards a lot, you're going to be able to have a more vintage Kansas City pocket situation, but that was a lot of quick game. But they didn't need to do anything because they just ran the ball down their throat. I fucking love that. Dude, they come out just fucking running inside run.

And like, it feels like, I mean, I'm kind of curious as to like, what? what the thought process is behind that like obviously they have this new you know stud they want to show off at the running back but how much of this is driven by eric bianami uh him coming back versus you know Patrick mahomes injury and trying to protect him a little bit you know what i mean like for sure just so curious about the you know first of all i think so much under center smart yeah exactly so much under center and like it seemed like a different um you know chief's team in a way and then you know you hear arrowhead rocking and you see fucking Kelsey rumbling down the field you know and Patma home scrammint for a touchdown, you're like, it's not really that different in some ways. They're just running the fuck out of the ball. No, and explosive plays off it. But this just goes to show you in some of their dry spells, what they could have morphed into had they had an elite back.

Yeah. And how handcuffed Andy Reed was. And I'm not saying every week it's going to work this way. Right. And I said this before the game on Monday. I said, hey, listen, like there have been teams. Denver's got a great defense. But year to year, things are different.

People, you know, people, it's an older defense. People age. They lost a couple pieces last night. They lost the key piece in JFM. But the other thing is they've been gashed before. Teams have scored. It's not the steel curtain defense. So, you know, I think they came into it with the attitude of we're going to play bully ball.

We're going to shorten the game. We're going to mitigate the risks, even though we're going to run fucking speed option with Mahomes and he's going to take off in the red zone. We're just not going to drop back to pass that month. And it was smart and it shortened the game. I think Denver ran probably 40 plays before the fourth quarter started when it was out of hand. Like Denver, who last year again, red flag, as few, as many three and outs as almost anybody. You know, they just, they were super fragmented.

They had trouble in some games finding a rhythm. And it was no different in this game, which is why I don't want to put it all on, you know, Davis Webb. You know, it's, for me, it's like, is it, Davis Webb. Every time I say his name, I think it's a golfer. I got to look this dude up. Davis Allen. I feel like I played against them. I think it's Davis Webb. I think it's Davis Webb. It's just every time I hear his name, I think I'm like, fuck, is that a golfer? But the other thing is the play action that comes off of this, the stress that this puts on edge defenders, you know, having this run game and the inside run game, I worried about the tight ends because they're not blockers.

but you know you can get you can get creative you know you put Noah Gray and you know he's a back in pistol and you got Tonga and they're finding ways to work around it but it also affects the middle of the field because you're going to pull these backers up with some of these looks and the play action once they get going is going to be really good for them so hey listen Andy Reid let's not forget yeah he's got his quarks and sometimes he throws the ball too much and then that's been his rep but like but he puts his corn quarterback in a three-point stance Chris he's a fucking genius he got that tape from 1925 or some that's right bro that's right he he he was he was in his bag last night and bianna me is back

dude i'm excited about this so i think they look they looked like i expected them to look and they couldn't even throw the ball downfield so imagine when they can start affecting those matchups the thing too is like dude i thought that they were fuck with me on the broadcast last night when they said that is the chiefs of the youngest team in the NFL i was like there's no fucking way like Travis is like 50 years old and Mahomes has been there forever. They really are the youngest team in the NFL, man. They got some good young talent. Like I was pretty impressed with their rookies, especially defensively.

I was perusing the internet today. It didn't seem like Mansour's injuries too bad. I think it seemed like an AC joint. I don't want to be knock on wood for my boy here. But I was impressed with him, that other rookie, what the fuck is his name? It was something. So they got three key rookies on defense. The first one's Delane, who had the person.

pick to start the game out. He basically ran the route to perfection. And then you had Peter Woods out of Clemson, who's his play strength is crazy. Chris Jones said he's strong as an ox. There was a play. He's in a three technique. You know, we talk about Byron Murphy going near shoulder, near knee. He's on one leg and he has to put his inside palm on the ground. He's on one leg. He's posting the guard. And he's got the freaking tackle on his shoulder who's Garrett Bowles, and he pops right up and makes the play. Like his play strength's crazy. He also sprinted down field, dug out of the stack

to make a play on a screen, really like him. But the R, Mason Thomas. R Mason Thomas, that's what I think. The R is for Relentless, brother. He is going to be a lot of fun. He's one of my favorite archetypes of rushers. He's twitchy. He's got a full bag.

You can tell he's laterally quick. When he beat McGlinchie on third and one, it's not just the up and under because it's almost like, you know, the way they see. set that they're inviting the up and under so bone nicks can take the edge and make the play tonga great job running flat replacing him but what i love about that is he went up and under and then he turned it into an edge rush inside out he's got that hip swivel flexibility um and then

you know the sack was a three man rush first off go watch this he spins from basically his knees i mean he goes power and he's able to swivel back and retrace, which is really smart rush, but it's also athletically so impressive. And if you look outside, they motion Jalen Waddle over to run a wheel. And he's open. The slot defender in the corner

have picked each other. Waddle's going to go for 30 or 40 before the half. That was a huge play. So those two guys, man, to your point, you want to talk about youngest team in the league? Holy shit. That was like a Christmas morning for Chiefs fans. like you want to see how these rookies play and they play pretty pretty damn well yeah absolutely um okay a

couple things like you got to hit the the broncos dude it just looks so disjointed offensively i don't understand like their o line is good i like they're supposed to be yeah i think they're good okay that's the kind of o line that i would you know on one hand be excited to play because you know it's gonna be really physical in the other hand you're seen your locker before the game and you're just like fuck fuck fuck here we go all right all right you know what i mean um and i don't understand understand why they don't just have more commit more of a commitment to running the fucking ball dude like why are we overthinking this in my opinion you know I think it's pretty much as basic as that like I don't I mean no one you have any stats on this but like

it seemed like they didn't even fucking run the ball at all in the first half you know yeah yeah yeah first half six rushing attempts to 19 passing attempts it's not good and Sean Peyton's going into the half and you know he's kind of talking to I forget who it was but He was talking to, I think it was Rutledge, Laura Rutledge. And he's like, yeah, we're not running the ball enough. I mean, it just was, and I think part of it is like you got these presence outside. You know, you got Jalen Waddle, you got Cortland Sutton on the same team, and you've got Pat Bryant, who's had a great camp and yada, yada, yada.

And I'm thinking it's going to be like, hey, we're going to force targets to Waddle. You got R.J. Harvey to throw the ball to out of the back. field. It kind of feels like you got a lot of mouse to feed suddenly. And I wonder how much of it is a young coordinator saying, I'm going to get this guy touches, I'm going to get this guy touches, I'm going to get bow and rhythm. But the other coach didn't worry about style points. The other coaches worrying about winning a divisional game. He can run the ball. He's going to do whatever he has to do. To your point, really disappointing. Yeah, like run the fucking ball, dude. That's it to me. You got a good old line. Ride them. Yeah. Especially like, you know, when you kind of see how that game's

going in the first half, the first quarter, the first fucking drive from the Chiefs, it's like, okay, there's going to be a physical game where they're committed to running the ball. Like, let's fucking strap it up too, you know? I thought Bone Next didn't play well, obviously. Right. Bonex didn't play well. But, you know, you kind of take away a lot of the easy throws that Denver can live off of because the guys outside and Sneed looked really good.

Noel Williams looked really good. Like Sneed, that's a Christmas present right there. Like, is Sneed going to look like vintage Sneed? when you when these guys these guys own the flats dude so it's really hard to just pop the the ball out there but i thought bo next just yeah i mean didn't take care of the football some of these i mean it was it looked like he regressed beau yeah no i agree man and you got away with one i mean you talked about sneed like that fumbling head where he was panicking scrambling around yeah yeah yeah starting one way looping all the way back the other like just fucking throw the ball away man like

got incredibly lucky that that wasn't six the other direction uh But it's like those are the kind of like, you know, frantic mistakes that a quarterback's coming off an injury, really pressing in week one trying to make a big play. It's like just get in a rhythm and, you know, settle into something and don't do that kind of shit, man. I mean, that fucking, what, three fumbles, bow nicks? I think it's going to be interesting to see if Sean Payton this week

flirts with taking back play calling at some point. You kind of wonder if this is interesting. what if Davis Webb is known to be very important to Bownex, which he is, which is why he was coveted and why Sean Payton said, I'll give up play calling duties. I know he said like, hey, you know, it's kind of like when you get old enough, you don't want to drive in the rain. Like, you don't want to be a head coach and call plays too, which might have just been a cute way of saying, like, I need Davis Webb in the building. Maybe he lures him back in the building knowing that, like, hey, if it doesn't go well, like the first month, I'm taking these, these,

I'm taking the fucking rains back. And I don't know if Davis Webb would know that or not. But I kind of wonder if he pulls one of those if next week doesn't go well. Because the AFC is too deep and your window's too open to mess around with this for more than a month. Yeah. I mean, the way that he, that Champateon responded to Laura Rulloch's question before the half makes me feel like Davis Webb is on a little bit of a short leash, Chris. I don't know.

I was kind of waiting to see what kind of comments. Sean Payton would make about it today. Like he's one of those coaches. I feel like it wears his heart on his sleeve a little bit. So I think we'll get a pretty good idea of where he's at with that, you know. But big test next week for the Broncos against the Jags who, after watching the live show, like, dude, they're going to win the fucking Super Bowl. I don't know if you heard. They're pretty good.

I'm used to that, that excitement around the building. But I do think that's going to be a really tough game and the Broncos are going to want their get back. and it's a classic, Hey, the Broncos are the worst team in the world. The Jags are the best team in the world. Everybody's going to be on the Jags. That'll be interesting. That will be interesting.

I mean, Brett Veach deserves a lot of credit. It felt like, to me, between finding Benson, between, you know, R. Mason Thomas, that's going to be wild to say the letter R before I have. Because he's a good player. He's our. He's our. He's our.

Stanford Steve's the first guy that brought him to my attention. Stanford Steve was like, this guy can play. So I got to give him. Also, interesting year to hear, like, there's two guys that came out this year in Cassius Howell and R. Mason Thomas, look at me, who were undersized. And, you know, kind of like that factored in, whether it was arm length. I mean, Baines an obvious one. But you worried about play strength. You worried about, to me, that kid looks big enough to play base downs.

They're like, I don't know. that guy still trains so uh definitely helps like keep the muscle mass on um keeps you looking feeling good and uh as important as anything is the cognitive benefits um you know so recovery cognitive benefits like keeping your muscle mass on the whole thing um and you know recovery takes longer my 40s than i used to for sure especially in the summer uh when i'm depleted dehydrated the whole thing. I'm slamming water and I'm eating I'm eating create gummies. And so you know, you think about training camp, I kind of wish training camp time. I kind of wish I was taking, create and training camp back when I played, you know, but it helps me now doing all the things I'm doing in retirement.

So better late than never. I am loving creatine and I'm loving create gummies. And as promised, now we're going to talk about the, the, the, probably the most, not probably, it is the most impressive offensive performance from Sunday. And one more time for the, those of you who have never maybe watched a podcast or didn't hear me say five times, listen, I haven't gotten to that game and I really, really want to give it it. It's due. When a team scores 59 points, I'm not going to put it in the Bermuda Triangle. You know, I had some folks like, well, you had time to watch the dolphins. No, I didn't. I wouldn't constitute what I did with the Dolphins game is watching it at all. That's why it's in the

Bermuda Triangle. The Bears game went through it with a fine tooth comb today. You know, when a team scores 59 points, there's a lot you got to look at. So here you are. Let's talk about the greatest show in the Midwest, if not the entire country. The Bears offense on Sunday was electric. and I don't I will wait to shit on the Panthers defense. I want to make it about the Bears offense first. But boy, was that putrid as much as the, as much as the Bears were awesome.

I mean, it was like a house of horrors. Honestly, Bo, it reminds me of like your worst memory in a defensive film room on a Monday. Like it put me right. Like a fucking act 12 game, dude. That's what. what it is. And both of these teams

might have to win that way a little bit. I think Chicago's defense will think both these defense will play better than they played Sunday. But I mean, it was hot out there. People were tired. But what I saw from Carolina, don't get me started. Let's start

with the Bears' offense. Let's start with the Bears' offense. You know, Ben Johnson said this offseason he wants to set records. He's that kind of guy. He's not a guy that I'm not saying he's a sociopath, but I don't think he has a lot of empathy. And the way he called this game, now Carolina was pacing them for a lot of it. But like, I'm convinced if he could put

100 up on an NFL team, he would do it. And he wouldn't lose a fucking second asleep over it. Yeah, I mean, he went for it on what, fourth down from his own fucking 20 yard line. He don't care, dude. He don't care. His comments about it were great. He's just like, yeah, had a good feeling about that. Yeah, but this dude comes out of the half. They got 31 points and he takes a shot. First thing. Like, fuck it. Let's just take a shot. Yeah, we're calling that bombs over Baghdad, Chris. I don't know. No, the Roquan Smithism. Yeah, exactly. But I just, where do I start? I think the Raymond edition was huge. Kaleef Raymond, old friend from Detroit, who's going to help them in a lot of ways. But he was more than just a special teams guy. out there. I mean, I think he led the team in targets in this game.

He had a phenomenal catch right before the half too. Great catch. So nice. But even better, and this is the stuff that gets me excited, the Munangai long touchdown, they're running basically like a short motion insert. Yep. He had a great block to spring that touchdown. So, you know, the, the wide outs are willing blockers, right, which is important. Go ahead. Before you get so far into this, like, that's one thing I had in my notes about what Ben Johnson does so well. And you see that with McVeigh, too, and, you know,

but like the willingness of the wide receivers to block, but then when you bring them down, you insert them and then you wash down all of the fucking defensive line, you know, and they do a really good job going first level first, especially at right tackle for Chicago. And then you have that insert blocker from the wide receiver. It almost just creates an extra gap like what you were talking about earlier, man.

And that's how Menonga got sprung on that. It feels like just one of those small, very obvious wrinkles that's been really just taking off in the run game the last, I don't know, two seasons. But it's it's never more obvious to me than when you watch a Ben Johnson rushing attack. Like it's pretty good shit. They're big strong guys. Adunzei burden. Obviously Loveland could be anywhere. And he wasn't targeted a bunch in this game, which, you know, for me, that at some point he's going to go off. I think he's going to be the straw that stirs the drink as much as anybody. offensively in the passing game.

But they got big physical guys. They got two backs that really have bought in, dude. They bought in. DeAndre Swift was great carrying the football yesterday, but he was also great as a pass protector yesterday. Because guys are going to get frustrated playing this Bears offense. And at one point,

they're just sending Devin Lloyd. Like, let's go ahead. Pressure. And, you know, he's standing in there. And so, you know, you've got guys that want to do the little things right, that take pride in it. But Ben Johnson, again, he's going for the throat. man like he runs the fuck out of mid zone and duo and they just start the game that way and it was like

lean on him lean on him and then it was like oh you want to put j c horn in the slot you got some young corner out there is uh what's this guy's name is uh will lee the third out there playing corner we're going to terrorize this guy like they were stalking him whether it was perimeter runs screens obviously the shots the one to the one to a doones day was an incredible catch

and just a bust like carry the vertical brother like what's going on I know Iverro's defense is confusing but it is confusing to watch sometimes and you can get enamored with like

oh what coverage are they in that was cute and they've got a lot of great players but what I don't love is everything that that scheme inherently puts on the front, they ask a lot of the front in the run game. Safeties are coming from way deep. Well, they got Derek Brown.

The boxes are lighter, right? Derek Brown, elite player, but not so elite when you get them running sideways. And it's the same thing with any of these guys. Penetration kills zone. Like, I've heard that a million times as a defensive lineman. And it's true. And this is a bad matchup for Carolina. And the dirty secret on Iverro's group, and, you know, sometimes you'll

yourself on a Sunday being like, yeah, I really like this group. Like, you know, they'll hold Seattle to, you know, it'll be a low scoring game last year, whatever. They got, I love Mike Jackson. I love, you know, J. C. Horn, Derek Brown. I love scorting. He's hurt, you know, so Prince Lee is out there trying to set edges. He's not a big guy. You bring in Devin Lloyd. There's a lot to be excited about with this defense. But if you can't stop the run and you're playing a team like this, it's going to be a long ASS day. And like for me, that's what I saw. The guys in the middle, I don't put it so much on the edges

because, and I'm not talking about the secondary, the guys in the alley, that sort of thing. I'm talking about the edge setters. It really wasn't their problem. A lot of it was interior. I thought Jayonne Phillips played pretty well, actually. Yeah, the problem with the edges was, it felt like they got through an entire week and the fucking DC didn't harp on keeping the quarterback in the pocket.

enough because he's a great quarterback. He's even better when he moves the drop target and he buys time. Some of these explosives are predicated on him being able to break the pocket, gain some vision, let the play develop. Listen, there were some great concepts in run and pass, but they just whooped them. It wasn't like rocket science. There's some cool concepts for sure. Yeah, I mean, Commet is he's the he's the fullback in an eye formation and they leak him out through the A gap and the corner's worried about carrying the seam and passing it off and he don't even see him now Caleb misses that throw but the leak in the red zone across the formation you know he I mean I think it was Lloyd running with him and Caleb basically trimmed his sideburns it was right oh

I mean it was beautiful in the end zone so some great designs in the past game but more than anything was just this is a low key kind of pattern with that i read a tweet today that this is the the eighth time that averro's group has given up 40 plus points since 2023 when he took over and that's worse in the league and you know who gashed him in 2003 was the Detroit lions and they played buffalo last year and buffalo ran for 250 so a lot of it is matchups but some of it is just they got their ass kicked yeah and i was thinking about this, Chris, because like, you know, when you unfocused a little bit, you think about, you know, how to stop offenses, you know, in your game planning during the week and all that shit. It's like, how does a Ben Johnson offense stress you? Okay. And it's like, I kind of feel

like I can't really pin it on one thing. Like, they stress you physically in the wrong game. They stress you, uh, like horizontally with Caleb getting out of the pocket. They stress you vertically vertically with their weapons. You know what I mean? It just feels like, Like he kind of has so many tools at his disposal. And you saw it during this game, man. Like he was using him. I was looking at these fucking dudes. I was like, dude, look at their offensive playmaker.

Swift looked fucking great. He was running hard as fuck. A dunzee fucking Loveland, who only had two targets. But like, like you said, at some point he's going to absolutely pop off. I hope so because I have him on my fantasy team. Oh, he's going to go off. I mean, he's going to be a central piece. Bro, comeet look good.

Luther Burton, I think is like a, a blossoming star. Yeah. He's incredible. They got Joe Tooney, bro. They got Minogue guy who had a 60 fucking yard touchdown. I was like, what the fuck? And then obviously they have Caleb Williams. So like their offensive playmaking group is just pretty fucking incredible, man.

Like they can do so many different things. They have a lot of different personnel packages at their disposal. It's, I mean, it's got me kind of excited about the parents. But you watch it, Beau. And like, I know there's a lot of very interesting window dressing and like the ways he gets the same plays, which is what great play callers do. Like they, you know, they're going to get to the same core concepts from different looks. And, you know, Luther Burden, for instance, is everything's intentional with him.

You know, great play callers, everything's intentional. I talk about it with Kyle Shanhan. Like, and Nick brought it up, Foles on the Monday show. And I did tell him you said hi after the fact I heard. But, I mean, it's a thing where like you watch a play unfold and you're like, I know why everybody did what they did. on the play. And it's to affect or put a single defender or multiple defenders in conflict. And it's no different with Ben Johnson. And when you talk about being able to affect you vertically

and horizontally, like you really have the game. But it's not like rocket science half the time. They have a very good front that really, and they coach these guys up with the little secret sauce nuances of running zone scheme football. And like you can really tell when a group is playing together and they're well coached. I also think they're better up front than Detroit's offensive line.

And isn't that something that he came from Detroit and everybody was like, whoa, are you going to be able to take that offensive line with you? And, you know, like I say,

you got Pene Seul South and Darnell Wright. He's fucking good, dude. And you've got the guys you got on the interior and you've had guys step up that weren't playing before and they look like they're on a string so they're well coached and they obviously get to these

basic concepts and make them look cool because they're doing all types of window dressing on top of them dude i just loved watching this game though too as a fan like sometimes you got to enjoy it you know what i mean and it's easier said it's easier to do that in week one you know when you haven't watched fucking a million games but like there was that little stretch where Caleb williams had that fucking perfect dot to cole come at you know and then he does his big fucking spike and then Bryce Young comes back and has that ball to cocker. That was a hot, hot sequence, dude.

Honestly, I was thinking about this from macro level. Like, you know I'm out on Gen Z. I'm out on Gen Z quarterbacks, okay? Out on Gen Z quarterbacks. And started last year with Jackson Dark.

I'm back in now, dude. Just because of these two fucking dudes, I'm, I fucking love how they play, man. Dart was good Sunday. Dart was good.

I'm kind of back. I'm kind of in on Gen Z now, bro. I can only call it how I see it, man, like, and I got to say, you know, I'm Mr. Short Prince fan club, although I do think Freeling had some rough reps and, you know, they kept Bryce relatively clean. Those two whiteouts outside Coker and Tett are going to, are going to have big years. And I think Bryce, I mean, it's week one. They're not going to look like this all the time, but he looked really good. You know,

this is the type of performance that kind of solidifies him as a guy you want to pay. So I was excited for Bryce and for Caleb like it's all he's already be he was on the madden cover deservedly so I thought he he really although you know you could say as an aggregate he could have improved his efficiency or whatever there was nobody scarier to play down the stretch in a football game last year than him and you know it was interesting talking hearing him uh ben Johnson talk about Caleb after the game he mentioned something about like you know because the efficiency is kind of a theme making the easy throws, right?

Doing the mundane, doing the checkdown shit. He said Caleb came out of the conversation with Drew Brees, who was doing the game in the production meeting, and told Ben, hey, he said something interesting. The difference between 70 and 60% completion rate is three checkdowns. And you saw the very Drew Brees comment to make, you know? Yeah, but you know what? I mean, it is like, you know, hey, Caleb's a killer.

That's why I like about him. Yeah. But everything can't be a kill shot. in a game like that, you get like, you get a little inebriated. You know, you put up 50, like, let's just do it again. But there will be games when you do have to be careful. And I thought he took care of the football really well. And, you know, the Panthers just didn't give him the, that's a, when you look at that

defense on paper, and I don't know if it's just the fact that Horn had to kick inside, you know, or it's the loss of scorting or whatever. but like they're, I think they're better than that. But at the same times, if you ask a Panthers fan, they remember all those 40-point implosions. And there have been multiple conversations about Iver not having his job in the media and among fans. And I think if this product is replicated again in the near future, like I do think his job is on the line. Yeah.

I mean, I truly haven't made my mind up on them yet. I mean, obviously, fucking dog shit showing. Anytime you give up 59 points, dude. Holy shit. It's not even happen to me. I play for the Rams. That's, I mean, that's, and it felt like it was every which way, too. I mean, yeah.

So I think we got to just kind of wait and see a little bit, but I totally understand what you're saying, man. We gave up 47 to New York Jet Brett Farv, to JetFarv. We also birthed Tori Smith's career. We give up three touchdowns to him in the first half. Joe Flacco threw three deep balls overhead. So I've been in some fucked up situations, but never something like that.

Not that many rushing yards. And then on the other side of it, you know, the Bears defense. And this is what, you know, hey, I know Bears fans are pissed in me for not talking about the show on Monday or some of you. And this is, you know, you're probably mad at me because I didn't pick the Bears to go to the playoffs. But like, if the offense was the only part of your team,

you're winning the Super Bowl, maybe. And I still think you have that kind of team. You have that kind of ceiling. But, you know, like the defense concerns me. It does. I don't take Carolina as a contender this year. I'll just say that. I'll come out and say that.

And I love the quarterback. There's a reason I'm not as hard on them as I would be on the Bears defense. Because I think the Bears can go somewhere. Well, Dennis Allen gets a lot out of, I mean, think of how much he got out of that group last year, man. He did. And they were really good on third down. and, you know, they had to manufacture some pressure and they had a lot of turnovers.

So, you know, again, like I talked about with Denver in the close games, and Chicago's got some of this, went in the close games, but I think when you got a quarterback that good, it kind of, I'm not saying it's regression proof, but I buy it a little bit more. Caleb.

And yes, that means I think Caleb's better than Bo Nix and, you know, like, shoot me. But I'll say this. That defense is going to keep you from going where you want to go if they play like that. I mean, like, the corners have to be much better. You know, I was a little disappointed in the corners. Stevenson was really bad, but Jalen Johnson had some tough reps as well, and they had trouble running with crossers, and, you know, Coker was running wild, and Tett was running wild, and I think

the backer play wasn't great. It wasn't just the Devin Bush folding chair play, which is the most hilarious play I've ever seen. I still don't have a... It's like you got to have a... Paised. Mid-Ref. It's like he got hurt, but then he was right back in the game. Yeah, that's what I thought, honestly. You know, but I worry about T.J. Edwards didn't have a great game. You know, they don't have a ton of firepower up front. So, the rookie looked all right, though. Thineman, the safety. Yes. He was well regarded coming out of camp. Yeah. Yeah. I thought he looked pretty good. I mean, the kid with the white three tech with the German name, there was a little like,

Oh, yeah. What the fuck is that guy's name? I got my brother. He's got his bear's glasses on and he's calling me before. The guy's going to the Hall of Fame. I'm like, well, just give him some time. But, you know, that defense has a lot of work to do. And I think obviously the Panthers defense has. Yeah.

The bottom line is, though, I have faith in Dennis Allen, dude. I like his scheme. I always have. Yeah, I do too. I do too. I just wonder if they have the players. Obviously, they bring in a safety. who's supposed to be a big part of the plan, and he's out for, you know, basically the whole season.

And, you know, you've got past rush woes that existed last year. And now I look at the corner room and I'm like, God, I hope it doesn't look like that all year. Yeah. In the past, I really like TJ Edwards, your Wisconsin brother, but he didn't play that well yesterday. So, yeah, anyways, Bears fans, you can tell me if we're being unfair to that defense. I think your offense is fucking spectacular. But, hey, we could have put this in the Bermuda. to triangle Sunday but you get your own segment yeah enjoy it you fuckers you ungrateful

don't do that don't do that uh Chris I think it's curious because I was watching this game and you know I feel like there's a lot of similarities in Bryce young and Caleb Williams gameplay do you have any thoughts on that like I'm just looking at it right they both are similar stature similar build um kind of very competitive guys with armed talent that excel when they're moving out of the pocket and they have I think they yeah like ability and arm talent to throw on the run you know you saw Caleb scramble a little bit more and he had hit two touchdowns on fucking runs but like to me it felt like you know these are two guys that have a pretty similar I don't know

playing style I think um Kyler Kyler Freudian slip when you look at who they were comparing him to coming out, Drew Brees. I actually liked the Bryce Young Drew Brees comparison. I'm not saying he's going to go on to be one of the most prolific pastors in the history of football. But the way he can operate in the pocket and the way he can get out on the move, like Drew was actually pretty good rolling out throwing the football. I got to burn into my brain him throwing a bunch of touchdowns rolling right and that sort of thing. and so I see the Drew Breeze thing a little bit,

like, which is a lofty comparison. I don't know who I compare Caleb Williams to. He's kind of a unicorn. You know, I think collegiate tape said Russell Wilson a little bit, but I think he's got a chance to be better. And that's with all due respect to my brother's deskmate. You know, he, the only thing I'm surprised about with him is how quickly he got this good.

You know, coming out, I wondered if, you know, he would be this good with the pieces they had around them. Obviously, there's been an overhaul with the roster and a coaching change that mattered a lot. But when you look at what they look like on Thanksgiving with Mattie Ver Fluse being the head coach to what Ben Johnson had him looking like the next Thanksgiving. I mean, it's just incredible. And you think about year two in the system, why wouldn't this guy be the limit? But yeah, it's the defense. The defense has got a... And the defense changes the way you call the offense.

Because the defense like that will have you going backed up. So have you going for it on fourth down. That's exactly right. Yeah. But all in all, just a very impressive performance. So let's finish this up with quick America's teams. This is a little early in the season. So I don't have a bunch of America's teams.

But, Bo, you want to go first? Yeah, I got one. My America's team is the National Athletic Trainers Association. Shout out to all those motherfuckers in the training room. Like, these are the most, you know, these are the guys who are taping ankles who are doing all the things that, you know, as a fan, as a consumer, you don't really know about. But as a player, you appreciate more than anything. But there were so many dudes out there in week one that I was shocked that they were playing in week one. Like we talked about Patrick Mahomes, but just think about it.

All right. That's really good. Patrick Mahomes, you got Bo Nix, you got Bosa, you got Scatabo, you got Tucker Craft, Fred Warner. I can't believe fucking Kittle was playing, man. That's wild. These catastrophic injuries and they were just back in week one. Like it was nothing. So shout out to all the trainers, all the orthopedic surgeons.

Everybody in the training room, man. Incredible. America's team. So I'll go to New York football teams, 25th anniversary of 9th. 11. I mean, like, obviously a huge deal that everybody is thinking about this week. But the one thing I wasn't thinking about was the fact that both New York teams would come out and ball. Absolutely ball. I, Bo, you were a lot younger than me. I mean, were you even alive? I was alive. All right, Chris. I'm fucking almost 35 years old. Well, I was in like fourth grade. I was in like high school.

Really? And I'll never forget obviously what happened and when it happened. It's one of those things that obviously remember where you were. Most of us, some of us maybe that are run for president, forget where we were on 9-11. But me personally, I remember I was in class and it happened and they rolled in the TV and we're watching it. We're just in disbelief. Like we didn't even, we couldn't even really comprehend what was going on. I mean, it was just too big to wrap your head around. And I just, you know, I'll skip to the sports portion of it. I mean, there's obviously a lot of people who that's still a very solemn day for, but sports in our society, really, when you talk about bringing a country together,

there's no more, what would the word be? There's no more exemplary moment of that than when George Bush came out and threw out the first pitch at that baseball game. And I got chills thinking about it. And, you know, obviously, you'd rather we don't have to do that at all. But it was one of those things where, and even as a younger kid, but Monty Jones and Howard Bryant were talking about this. I saw this. And like, I think I don't want to butcher it, but I thought it was summed up pretty well. It's like, everybody felt we're so used to feeling safe. And all of a sudden, we didn't feel safe. And it was like almost like the president came in and he was paternal, you know, and, you know, at that point, we were worried about, like, shit popping off

everywhere. And it could be, like, at your local high school or at a college game or at your school or, like, an airport. You thought more was coming and, like, for the president to walk out there and deliver a fucking strike with the whole country in the state that it was. I mean, like, it just gives me chills thinking about it, no matter what your politics were or whatever, like, the country came together. And so I just think about it. It's crazy. It's been 25 years. And obviously, we still do a really good job of honoring and remembering and all that stuff. But it was cool to see two New York teams win this weekend because New York was the epicenter of the sports world in the wake of that. And we needed sports. And so that was cool. The other America's team I want to give out is to the

pivot football show. Shout out to my boys. Ryan Clark, you know, Freddie T. And Channing Crowder, you know, R.C. leaves ESPN. And he's like, fuck this. I'm going to do my own show. And I just wanted to say that because I think R.C. was incredible on Monday night countdown. I thought he was so good.

And his football knowledge, you can say what you want about Ryan Clark. I personally know Ryan Clark. And I just know he's a good human being. He's a great fucking dude. He's a great dude. He really is. You know, he fucking, when it comes to ball knowledge, I mean, he was a really good player in his own right. But he also, you know, like he wasn't like a physical freak of nature.

He just knew how to run through your fucking face. He had to know the game. And, you know, I thought he did a great job teaching the game every time he was on Monday Night Countdown and on TV. And ESPN NFL Live. I'm never a big fan of, I'm not a big fan of like morning talk show football shows on ESPN or any. So if you watch Ryan on first take or whatever the Mike Greenberg show is and you didn't like Ryan, like I'm talking about the Ryan that's sitting up there telling you how to fit duo or what late rotation means or, you know, why, how you play cover four palms. I think Ryan's as good as anybody doing that.

And, you know, I was bummed to see him leave ESPN. But I do think the pivot football show is going to be fun. I love Fred Taylor. One of the best dudes. You could have, for all the success he had, he's one of the most humble football players that I've ever met. And Channing is electric. So I can't wait to see their football show.
