I know a team with an exciting young quarterback that's built around him,
who's throwing to a number one right now.
It's the Washington commanders.
I hate talking about these guys because they're going to load up.
I don't want to give them any ideas.
But, like, the argument for the commanders is this.
We can't stop a lot of people now necessarily.
Like, we're not that good on defense, but that's what the head coach is for, right?
That's why we put a lot of personnel into the offense.
But if you think you're good right now and you think you're stressing teams to the point
where, like, every possession is stressful and they know,
You can't punt in the first half because you'll get down to this team because for some reason,
and I need a bigger sample size than four games to see it.
So maybe it's like if this thing lingers for a week, you see how you play this week and two weeks.
But this is the year to say, fuck it.
Let's outscore people.
Look around the league.

Welcome to the Greenlight podcast.
Thank you for joining this morning a rip around the NFL.
Chris joins from the inside the NFL studios.
He's there taping.
He kicks things off with a recap of the Ryan Rosillo live show that he attended last night.
He was on stage with Ryan.
They had a blast.
Ryan obviously wearing a NBA jersey to show off those arms of his.
And then we get into the NFL.
We talk about the state of the dolphins.
The Lions bouncing back.
Jared Goff going 18 for 18.
the Broncos defense, the battle they put up against the Jets.
Chris loved their tape.
And then the Devante Adams trade, where he could possibly go.
Chris does out an interesting young team that might be a great fit.
Enjoy the show.
We will be back live on Friday.
That's a note.
We'll be live.
Our previews will be live Friday morning, 9.30 in the morning.
Make sure you tune in then.
We'll have a blast.
In my Uber on the way to work this morning, the driver asked me, I heard
Belichick is coming to Philadelphia. Is that true? I was like, yes, he is. He's here now. He's here now for
inside the NFL. And I'm headed there as we speak. I said, where'd you hear that? He goes, I saw it on
Facebook. So, you know, maybe that's where Schaefter's getting a lot of his stuff, Facebook.
That's where you find all the older journalists on Facebook. You know what I'm saying?
It's citizen reporting. It's like my idea of like people, boots on the ground reporting the weather.
You know my theory for the weather?
We don't need an app.
We need a dude in every county.
This is what the weather is.
No, Bill is in Philly as we speak.
He's here for inside the NFL.
That's where I am.
I don't like hang out with an NFL emblem behind me.
I don't usually pod in the morning,
but this morning I said, you know what?
Let me get this thing done because I got to get out of here after the show.
So I decided to wake up bright and early and come in.
Before our production meeting, which starts in 39 minutes.
as far as I'm concerned, because I need to be five minutes early because Bill is in that meeting.
I'm upstairs.
He's downstairs.
I'm allotting myself at least five minutes to get there.
Don't want to be late to his meetings.
Got too much respect for the man.
And my awesome teammates here inside the NFL, Ocho, Ryan Clark, the whole gang.
Like, I want to be there bright and early.
So I'm going to knock this pot out.
There's only a couple things to talk about.
Listen, I came in last night.
to do Ryan Rissillo's live show.
You know, sometimes people put something on my calendar,
and I don't think about it until it gets to, like, the day before.
That's just the way I was born.
I don't plan ahead.
I don't think, like, way ahead.
I'm very busy.
I take things one day at a time.
And so Ryan was like, would you do his live show with me in Philadelphia?
And this was, like, months ago.
I was like, yeah, easy.
So making a Tuesday night because I come up Tuesday nights.
I ride an SUV up.
I watch film on a on this portable you know,
Wi-Fi thing and I get in and usually I got nothing to do.
So I'll just come in and do this show.
And he's like, sure, awesome.
So two dudes, we don't even talk about it.
Like the show is about to happen like yesterday.
It's leading up to the show.
And I'm like, I really don't know any of the details.
I looked at my calendar, see what time.
I left in the SUV.
It's a five-hour drive.
I got there like 30 minutes before the show started.
anyways before i roll up i'm like let me look at where this show is uh it's at the film war
i've heard of that maybe there's a couple hundred people in there i'm standing on the stage
watching ryan start the live show and it's a it's effectively it's like a uh he's basically doing
a comedy show like i'm like damn he is really taking a big swing here and he's doing a great job
but I'm standing behind the curtain and it says
there's this big sticker on the wall for like the people that are waiting to go on stage
says like you're doing great and I'm like fuck it's that kind of thing huh I am in trouble
like I am you know so luckily backstage I asked for like a little Glenn Levitt or whatever
they had loosening me up a little bit walk out of the green room it's a bunch of ringer people
out there and my shoulders are kind of broad so I bomb
jump into the door like they have double doors and i don't really see and i got a drink and i spill a
little of the drink on the ground and i don't really break strike because i'm like we're going out to the
show and i can hear them and they're like nice and i'm like yeah what a great start you know a bunch of
like ringer people judging me in the hall i clean up after myself because i'm like that person
but i'm a bull in a china shop and i'm just thinking about like getting to the stage
and you know there's like five people they're like the coolest kids at the high school they work for the ringer
and they're like nice and i'm like yep the big dumb animal is big dumb dumb animaling let's get out here
and try not to fuck up you know ryan's show uh i hope i hope ryan was happy he texted me late
late last night said he was happy it was awesome met a lot of eagles fans as i always do this is the
hat that he bought me from mitchell and ness evidently the same guys are still working in there
who uh sold us a bunch of gear the day before the parade they were like you're kidding me i
Yeah, I'm like, dude.
So anyways, live show was awesome.
Didn't know was at the film or didn't know if I was a surprise guest.
You know, like the whole thing.
I didn't know anything.
I go out there, Ryan's got a Moses Malone jersey on.
You know, he's done arms in the last 24 hours.
There's no question in my mind.
He's done arms.
And, you know, as a big guy, there's certain fashion decisions that I don't make because I don't want people to think I'm trying to
look like sexy you know what i'm saying like i'm just not gonna walk around in a sleeveless all the time
ryan doesn't care i think that's because ryan's not really a big guy he's a muscular guy so he's
like i want to show it off so he's got that whatever that is in you that that makes you put on a
a large moses malone hardwood classic and walk into a room full of a thousand people like he just
leans into it dude he's me i thought he did great and i was happy to be a part of it the jersey did
did look good on him it was solid yeah it did look i'm not gonna lie he looked huge we're walking out i'm
like jesus and i met like kyle his guy for the first time i love kyle um great seeing sir rudy
great meeting um you know a lot of folks over there including like fans that like went to the show
and then went to this bar afterwards that we were at across the street i didn't get banged up
or anything because i knew i had to be awake early and uh ended up
like one of them that everybody's so nice and this one guy you know some people don't know what to say so
they come up and try to make a joke and it's like an uncomfortable joke like he max crosbie be probably
four times like to be funny and like by the second time i'm like i know what you're doing and i'm
complimented like i don't know what this joke was supposed to do and his two friends are like sorry man
we're going to and then i'm leaving again and he's doing it again and i'm like this is getting uncomfortable
And it hit me that he looked like the cop and dumb and dumber that drank piss by the window.
And so I just said it.
And there was a room full.
It was a group full of 10 people and they laugh at this guy and I just walk out the door.
So whoever you are, fuck you, man.
That got awkward for you.
Anyways, there were a lot of nice fans I met.
Not a lot of sleeping last night, woke up, blast some big X to plug, did some calisthenics like I'm doing a bid.
in the West and and here I am.
So anyways,
let's go back to Monday night real quick.
Just give you a round of what's going on.
Hawks,
Hawks Lions.
I think that the Seahawks,
I came away kind of impressed that they were able to hang in this game for a while.
Like,
I think this team's going to be there.
By there,
I mean,
like,
they're going to be relevant late in the season,
but I didn't know after kind of like who they've played,
how they'd respond on the road.
And I thought for the most part, like I was impressed with them hanging in there.
Now, you know, Jared Goff completing 18 of 18 of his passes, like for a guy who did not watch the game live and then had to go back and watch it, like I had two, I don't consider watching two screens live because I'm also sweating the over in Miami, which by the way was just as electric as the under in Vegas.
If you watch that game and you had the over 37, which seems to be a number that like I'm just going to bet, no matter.
what if something's 37 i'm betting it i'm hot right now i don't know what happened on that kickoff
at the end of the game maybe somebody could tell me like maybe somebody could tell me like they punted
the ball somebody fair caught it i had no sound i'm thinking hey like we need one more score from somebody
this can't be bad then i see tennessee lining up on the 10 yard line and mathematically they have to
score and to me kick the field goal for my sake and for yours on fourth down but they don't and they run the ball
and Tony Pollard somehow gets the edge.
I mean, it was, I was jumping for joy.
That was the only real value that that game gave me as a, as a, as a consumer.
And I think that's the disappointing part.
We'll get Detroit in a second because that's the main event from Monday.
And with that kick at the end of the game, the dolphins had declared their intention to onside kick.
I know that.
But the punter Jake Bailey kicked it outside the landing zone, the setup zone.
So that gave the Titans the ball at the Miami 10-year time.
It was 10 yards in force from the 20.
Oh, I'm sending him a hat.
Thank you.
Anyways, I'm really glad he got flagged because that made me some money.
And the thing I'll say about Miami is, like, I have seen people this week talking about firing that coach.
Haven't you seen that?
I said something Nolan about it last night.
He was like, no.
I'm like, that's what people are saying.
That doesn't make it right.
And as you know, I don't fire coaches on this show.
but if I thought that Mike McDaniel deserved to be fired or it was the prudent thing to do,
you might know by what I don't say.
Here's what I'm going to say.
If you fire Mike McDaniel, you just paid the one guy,
you just paid a guy who can really most effectively run his offense and exactly his offense.
And I would call the question of that arrangement into,
I would call the ceiling of that arrangement into question.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, you know that.
I've talked about this at length.
Like, Tua protects the floor of that offense.
But he, you know, he does lower the ceiling.
The ceiling is not the roof, as we talked about the other day.
You know?
So I have issues with the offense when he's running it,
and they did not look good to start the season.
Like, let's be real.
And down the stretch last year, there was a bunch of issues that, like,
I've kind of harped on for them to come out of the gate.
I've said before Tua got hurt, they looked like they've regressed.
a little bit and I can't quite put my finger on what it is. I'm sure Dolphins fans know because y'all
are tortured and I know you sit there and you're like, what the fuck is wrong with this team?
Because it's so tantalizingly good sometimes. But I think overall, if I had to criticize Mike McDaniel,
it's just for and Chris Greer, it's for not having a better ready made backup quarterback for this
situation, especially with everything you know about Tua. Like, I like Snoop. Skyler's giving
good snaps before, but like two weeks after the injury, your operation can't look like that.
And I know it's a very timing-based, you know, offense.
For instance, the swing passes you miss, like right off the bat.
And, you know, a lot of people are just like bad throw.
Well, maybe, but maybe they're not on the same page.
Maybe the route's a little bit off.
Maybe the timing's a little bit off.
You think it's just a swing pass, but like these guys do that a thousand times in practice
with the same timing.
You talk about all the motion in that offense and that sort of thing.
Like, listen, I think it would have been beneficial to take a bigger swing at a backup quarterback, you know.
And now if Tua is out for a while, I don't think it's out of the question because only they know how long this timeline is.
And I also think it speaks to how long timeline might be the fact that they didn't go with a deviation.
Like they didn't say, hey, we're going to change the offense to suit Huntley for a couple weeks.
Like, to me, he's trying to make his offense work, which I could call into question,
but without knowing how long two is out, I can't call it into question.
You know, some people are saying, look what Green Bay has done.
Look what Kevin O'Connell's done.
And, hey, Kevin O'Connell, he's in a class of his own right now, in my opinion.
And his offense is more one that, like, any quarterback can pick up.
I mean, he taught Josh Dobbs to play quarterback for his team.
He came straight from the airport.
I don't even think they flew him in.
I think he was on like a Greyhound.
He came straight to the airport.
He's on the sideline.
dudes are teaching in the cadence.
You know, it's like we can marry some of these concepts that we run with some other concepts.
I just don't think it's that easy in Miami to say like, hey, like pick this offense up.
There's a lot of mechanics of that offense that Tua has down, right?
And like I said earlier, he keeps the floor from being down here, right?
Because you see the floor.
You're actually, it's bad when.
So to compliment him, he runs that offense very well.
he just doesn't run it very great.
And so that's always my problem
is that like the ceiling of this offense
is affected by the quarterback,
but when he's gone, boy, does it look like hideous?
And, you know, I saw, hey, do it like Green Bay.
They can't do it like Green Bay.
And that comes down to personnel.
You know, it's like once they started a crew
in the fastest guys in the world,
it was like, and maybe this has always been a thing,
but like the offensive line,
which hasn't stayed incredibly healthy
throughout Tua's tenure has just never been a physical group.
Like, I don't think of that as a physical group.
They're not made to road grade.
And, like, Green Bay, we went up to camp.
Like, that team is built like a big-ass team, like a physical team.
And so, yeah, they can go Gavs scheme.
They can make it easy for Malik for a couple weeks.
I also think they know it's a spot-start situation.
So there's no need to force a long-term solution into a two-week period,
which kind of calls into question how long it's going to be in Miami.
And it also calls into question, do you go out and get somebody?
Like, we'll see what happens.
I think I'm not letting the Bryce Young flyer thing die.
You know what I'm saying?
Because this, even if Mike comes out of this thing unscathed,
even if Mike comes out of this thing unscathed,
and he coached another five years there and two is your guy,
like you have to have a better backup quarterback.
And it's obvious to me that it would help if he's a quick processor,
not saying I know that about the Carolina kid.
And somebody that can just, like, distribute the football,
run the pre-snap stuff well, the timing.
You got to have two of those guys in the room.
So what about Russell in Pittsburgh?
They send him down.
I don't think Pittsburgh would send somebody this early
with the aspirations that they have as a team,
like where Justin feels, you know,
like he's not a running quarterback necessarily,
like where they're just running option with him.
But, like, he's going to run the ball five, seven times a game.
he gets dinged that could be the difference between you making the playoffs or not so i wouldn't
send him just like if i'm the chiefs i wouldn't send carson wends for and even though we talked about
this like i wouldn't send a backup quarterback on a team that wants to go places this early in the
season i just want to make this last point about mike i think he's a good football coach it's not
just the quarterback play right now like listen huntley hits he missed two touchdowns to tyreek
you know like you're leaving points on the field waddle fumbles the ball fumbles the ball
I'm pretty sure that like those things you bank on not happening, right?
But the reality is right now you're not that good of football team anyways.
And now you're down your quarterback.
Like there were times where this team scared me when I was like,
hey, he's not that good.
And I had to prove it out to you guys every Sunday by watching the games and like things needed.
And I want to be right.
No question.
It was a lot harder to watch those games and not feel gaslit at times a couple years ago.
Now I just don't think they're that good of.
football team. And they showed it over the first two weeks of the season. So when you lose,
you know, your quarterback who can run the system, the penalties, the timing, the whole thing.
So he, that's his fault too, Mike's. But I'm not even sitting here trying to be objective about
whether or not you should fire the man. I see people talking about firing him. I'm not talking
about firing him. But if you're asking to fire Mike, it really doesn't matter if he should be
on a hot seat or not. Because the minute you paid to a, you may,
made a decision that this guy is your guy at least for a couple years in my opinion and if you didn't
like and for some crazy reason he didn't just you know kind of like survived the season i'd like to see
who really wants the job in the off season because to as high as the heights have been like
it's all been within the framework of this offense and i do believe if he's in a different offense
like it's going to look different and so like if i'm a coach and i'm married to this quarterback
who runs this system really well.
Do I want to go down to Miami when there's other vacancies?
I don't know.
Like, is no state tax enough?
Like, look at the situation.
And they have let a lot of defensive players go that are really good.
You know, so the Miami situation,
they're kind of upshits Creek without a paddle here.
And I don't think the coach should be on the hot seat.
I think it is what it is now.
Like, you got to give them some time to figure this out
because, like, Tua's not going anywhere.
anywhere, okay? All right. The other thing, I'll be brief on Detroit. This is more like the team
that I actually put in the Super Bowl. You know, Jared Gough thrown the ball 18 times a game,
12 of those play action pass. This guy, this is when he's, this is when he's dealing. And by the way,
he looked more mobile in a couple situations early in that game. I saw him dip under a free
runner, kind of spin around and complete one of his 18 dimes. Like, you know,
that's what we're talking about.
But the Detroit Lions have to lean on the run game to get there.
And it was obvious to me, like banged up front in Nolan,
pointed this out, Mike McDonald and I'd hear this before the game,
said if we get to third down, we're going to be all right.
Well, obviously, didn't get to third down.
Six total third downs.
And, you know, Detroit will do that to you sometimes.
So be on a lookout for Seattle, who they play next week,
because that's blowout watch, right?
Because of the trend we've got here,
everybody that plays Detroit so far.
They've got the Giants.
And if the Giants blow, if the Giants blow Seahawks out, then this Detroit thing is really
real, the Campbell hangover.
But hey, 12 of 18 of his throws, play action pass, 146.5 rating.
Last year, he was 113.
He had been 89.3 so far this year.
I don't have any theories as to why the play action hadn't been clicking for them.
I'll look back at that.
but it was pretty obvious last night that when you're when you're playing that way you know you can beat a lot of teams now i think i think
i think uh seehawks will get healthier they'll be fine um but that's a damn good football team that just
kind of it felt like something click for them last night or monday 18 of 18 for 2902 and a touchdown
and he doesn't even get the game ball and caught a touchdown who got the game who got the game ball i think it was
montgomery but that was the whole thing at the press conference uh dan campbell came out they at the first question was
what did you think of Jared Goff going 18 for 18 and Dan Campbell was like, oh shit, I didn't even realize.
I just gave the game ball to somebody else. I probably should have given it to him.
No, but which tells you something. Like, you probably did it right the first time. Jared was awesome.
But like, when Jared's awesome, there's other people that are awesome too. It's not one of those things where like Jared can just do it all by himself.
And that's not an act. But when they're, but when they're good, like, that's what happens.
So, um, anyways, we've got, we've got, uh, we've got, uh,
more to talk about but i thought this was a really good step by the lions and aidan hutchison to me
you are knocking on the door of being in that group you might be in that group like out of this in a
vacuum you're in that group and i'm talking about the the the big five like you know in in in in africa
there's there's like your big five that kill the most other animals and people like you can be in
that i don't know who's in the big five elephant lion um you know they're all in big buck hunter
We've got Garrett, we've got Watt, we've got Parsons, we've got, you know, I know I'm forgetting
guys, Bosa are going on a list. Redick, you know, Philly fans, you say, what about Reddick?
I haven't seen him play. But Hutchinson's been playing like that guy. I want to see it the whole
year to put you in that category because that's a hell of a category to be in, but man, he is
balling. Okay. The one thing I want to do is compliment your team, God's team, Reed, before we
get into this Devonte Adams thing. Are we going to talk about defense? We're going to talk a lot
about defense. I thought, and usually when I ride up, I get really into one game.
You know, like, I'll have aspirations of watching four or five games on all 22,
and I'll just sink into one game and I end up charting every play. Like, this is how I watch
like a game. I go possession by possession, describe each play as succinctly as I can.
Shout out somebody who made a play. And at the end, I aggregate, you know, how I think the group
played or whatever. Probably like a lot of other people are watching film, but my own little way.
so I got my little notes.
And I don't know how many possessions there were in this game
because I have to note the possessions,
but they were like 15 in the first half for these teams.
Like they were like that.
And I only watched all 22 of Denver's defense on New York's offense.
Not that I can't wait to watch the Bow Nix show.
But I wanted to see, was it as simple as like,
hey, we got a guy out here, you know, he's the eraser.
Remember the movie with Arnold,
Schwarzenegger, the eraser.
I don't remember the plot of that movie at all.
It wasn't about a giant corner who just took away number ones.
But that's what it was the other day.
It was like there was not even a thought.
And I've only watched, you know, right into the second half.
Like there just didn't seem to be a thought of like, let's get him the ball.
Like, and I don't blame him, I guess, because Pat's won that matchup in the past.
He won that matchup because they didn't really even go there, at least early in the game.
From what I've seen so far, what the game looked like to me and seeing it on TV copy, too,
is if you can take away Garrett Wilson, this offense has a hard time.
If you can go to him, like when they looked really good against New England,
you know, somebody would man up and, you know, Rogers would beat man coverage.
but like it's really hard
to throw him the ball
when he's playing a guy like that
especially because you look at the rest of the
and it makes everything else harder
like Lazard's your number two
Conklin's a guy you get something out of
I just thought they like on early downs
they said hey forget he's out here
Vance Joseph was like
hey guys forget he's out here
we're coming downhill and we're going to stop this run
and we're going to run blitz these guys on early downs
and we're going to hit Aaron Rogers.
Like, I feel like the first play of the game,
they want seven-man pressure.
You know, like, just let's, it's raining out.
Like, let's see how much this 40-year-old man wants to get hit in the rain.
And let's see how much these backs want to run into Stackbox.
Because eventually, you're going to have to figure something out
where you put Garrett at number three or in the slot or moving around.
They motion him, Pat, just travel with him, you know,
and all the stuff that you try to get him open on, like a crosser,
something it takes too long because the main event of this game was watching the front the Denver
Broncos lined up like they were mad at Nathaniel Hackett you know what I mean like it was supposed
to be about somebody being mad on behalf of Nathaniel Hackett hey and I some you know Jets fan or
somebody's going to point out like come on you're making it about that I didn't make it about that
I didn't make it about that.
I thought,
off the strength of being mad,
you could walk into the stadium
and just light a team up like that.
I think it went the other way.
I don't know if Hackett did something personal
to that defense a couple years ago.
Maybe there was a couple guys still there.
Because they played that way.
They played like they were mad.
I'm not saying they were mad at Hackett.
What I am saying, though,
is that team came with like an edge.
And I think Vance Joseph deserves a lot of credit.
You know, he's been fired by the organization that he's doing a great job with right now.
It takes a lot of humility to come back.
And, you know, last year, Miami team we just talked about, hung 70 on that team.
You know, like, there's a lot of chances for him to tuck tail and run.
All he's doing right now is coaching this front seven, like, they're the hardest playing bunch in the NFL.
He's done some really exotic stuff, like with the linebackers in coverage off of, like, rushing, who's rushing?
who's dropping and their top five in just about every defensive metric top two in most of them.
Dude, like watching was really affirming.
The edges that dudes were setting on that goal line stand in the first half.
Oh my God, Reed.
It was like that is the championship effort in the run game,
the giving up your body, the launching yourself into a puller,
the just like hat and hands.
like they were running down people shit it was like and that to me is what what the main thing
I took away from tape like PS2 makes it really hard right for a team like that
Zach Allen ballin love that guy Cooper rushing really well Jonah Ellis setting edges
Riley Moss we talked about Riley Moss and how he's kind of come on but like there are
countless guys on the defense I could shout out I mean Vince Joseph cooked up a pressure at one point
where they like coffee housed if you know what a coffee house is like a fake game like they mugged up
with backers which means they walked them right up in the gaps and one of the backers bailed out for
like a quarter second the end took an inside move and the backer runs straight downhill he like faked
stood there chopped his feet downhill we used to do that in like one-on-one pass rush fuck with people like
run a fake game chop your feet look at each other both tackles look at each other ready to sort the game
you guys look stupid and we laugh at them you never try it in the game that was pretty damn
creative i like that pressure and uh i think i think vans joseph is doing a really good job because
the guys are playing like they're out for blood man like that was awesome read i got excited watching
that tape so i just want to shout out the broncos defense you know that's yeah that's it's been
sick washing me and the other thing is yeah i mean you just read a couple names how many of those are
grade A names that everyone knows.
You know, Zach Allen is a, he's a big contract.
Like people should know who he is.
But the other guys like Joan Ellis, he's a rookie.
Dondre Tillman, he's a rookie undrafted.
Yeah.
But I also think like it's a team thing where like team hasn't had success.
You're not going to know who they are.
You know what I'm saying?
And that just is what it is.
You know, like I think if they play like this, though,
you're going to know more about these guys.
and I think it's high time that people like paid attention to what this defense is doing.
I know there's some fans that are like, we've been telling you.
Hand up, knew they were good, didn't know they were this good.
Like, this is fun.
It's also a nightmare matchup for the Jets, which is why we bet the under,
unblinking confidence in the under.
Big.
Because when you can take Wilson away and you got a front that can play like that,
which is part of the problem with the Jets is like,
you got to be more physical in general, right?
When PS2 can take Wilson away, it's hard to see how that matchup goes much differently if the sun is out.
I know it was nasty, but that matchup to me seems like what it, I mean, it might be 17 points,
but like it's going to be a hard sled.
It's going to be a tough sled in 17 if you're going to play them on a 60 degree day where the balls dry.
I don't think it was just about that.
And, you know, I want to be fair to Breece Hall, like the guy from Wisconsin got some touches and some nice looks, too.
Like there were some nice holes for him.
And for whatever reason, on Breece's possessions, they were running into, you know, some heavy boxes.
So I'm going to get through with that all 22 later because I can't put it down.
I got 10 minutes here before I got to run down to that meeting.
But like, I think Rogers comes out of that game really sore.
And I think he also comes out of that game saying, like, I never want to feel like that again in a matchup with a team.
like I don't want to feel like there's no Garrett Wilson
and if there's no Garrett Wilson there's nobody like that's not how I want to feel
so maybe I need my buddy you know the guy that just made it clear that he wants to
trade he's in Vegas his name's Devonte Adams he's throwing the football all the time and I think
you know like he does need a bona fide number two that's clear and Joe and Robert
although I like both those guys I'm just telling you what the temp is like
people are on their ass.
All signs point to make this trade for the Jets,
I would just ask, and maybe you don't have the luxury of asking this question
because you don't have a choice.
Does it make you a Super Bowl contender?
I don't know if it does.
I really don't know.
I don't know.
Also, like, it helps you win that game Sunday.
But, you know, like the good news for the Jets is they're not going to play a lot of teams
in the AFC that have a guy like that.
not down the stretch.
Look where the best corners in the league are.
The ones that, like, can really take you away.
I don't think, like, you know, Chiefs don't have that guy anymore.
McDuffie, you could say, but, like, that's a different deal there.
McDuffie, pretty damn good player, all pro.
But I do feel like PS2 is playing right now.
Like, he's strapped Mike Evans a little bit, like a couple weeks ago.
He's, he's racking him up.
And it's funny about PS2 because the Bronch,
because play the Raiders this week.
And Devante Adams is like, hey, I don't want to deal with that.
Don't want to deal with that.
Yeah, don't want to deal with that.
Like, let's just get him out of here.
And Certain can be out there covering nobody.
You know, I'm telling you, dudes are doing cardio out there when he's in front of them.
It's pretty damn impressive.
But the whole point is like, yes, Devante Adams, he wants to trade.
Like, let's set the table for this conversation that I can have before I roll out and go to this meeting.
You know, like, when I started looking at it, there's a couple things.
stand out to me. You got to contextualize the whole thing looking at the tenuous relationship. It seems.
Like, they might be fine. Devante might be fine with AP, but it doesn't seem like it because like he's like,
I want to be out. He does a hamstring injury. And then he's like, I want to be out. And, you know,
Antonio's liking picture. Is that real? Antonio liked the picture on Instagram where it's like,
hey, Devante wants out. If it were him liking a post, like can we get, can we confirm that or not?
The whole point is like Antonio Pierce, whether he's liking that post or not, if a guy,
you know, there's a lot of coaches to say, if you don't like it, leave and then you used to
like walk out the door, I could see a guy be like, all right, I'm leaving.
And they'd be like, wait, come back.
What the fuck are you doing?
It was his account.
It was his official account, although maybe he liked it by accident.
Yeah, and maybe for sure.
But I also, like, know Antonio Pierce enough to know as a former player, like, you have a different
mentality.
And like, it's like, okay, you want to leave?
Get the fuck out.
Like, I'll call you an Uber.
I'll book you Southwest.
I'll send you wherever you want to go if you had no trade clause.
But he doesn't have a no trade clause.
So when you look at like the way this has gone down and you think about no trade clause,
we're all thinking that Devante Adams has a lot of autonomy.
And I would do right by the guy anyways, just for respect for the game.
Like it didn't work out here, but you are generally a well thought of cat that handles himself
for the most part really well.
I also understand why Devante Adams wants out.
he's 31 years old he doesn't have a ring like i don't i don't want to be there either i wouldn't
i've been on teams like that so i totally understand i understand from both perspectives
the best thing you can happen now is that you get a lot back for him you know they're talking about
two and some additional compensation and that like both parties are happy with where the
destination is but if it's tenuous i can see former player antonio peers being like fuck you too buddy
So I'll give you a couple scenarios.
There's the realistic scenarios because of what I think is like a cap space conversation and cash.
Okay.
Current Adams costs $13.5 million drops by $9.68K each week.
So like we looked at these teams last night and we said who are the most realistic mathematically?
There's also the fantasy like kind of like I don't think the chiefs can afford him and I don't think they're going to trade them in division.
like that would be wild unless like they really bent them over you know we're like I need three ones
you know maybe that's why they put the price out there so a bunch of people jump at devante and then
you can play you know the person in the room who would overpay and then you go to the person in the room who
would overpay I got eight people like they all give me this so just knock me off knock my socks off
so I think there are those teams that could realistically bring him on I think the chiefs
the Chargers, ironically, are both teams I think could use another wide receiver, but we're not
really going to talk about that. Let's be realistic. The most common answer here is probably the Jets,
right? Because they really do need him. Again, in my opinion, does it put them over the top where
you can win a Super Bowl? I don't necessarily think so. Playing with another blue chip wide receiver,
contending defense, chance to win. You could talk yourself into that chance to get catch balls
from your old buddy, right?
And if I were Devante and I had to say in this thing,
yes, the chance to catch the ball from one of the greatest
quarterbacks of all time who happens to be my friend is great.
But for how long?
So you become a handicapper.
You know, you look at this year and you're like, you know,
like when I was a free agent and picked the Patriots, I was handicapping.
I picked the Patriots and the Falcons.
Turns out I was a pretty good handicapper.
still am sometimes, not all the time.
But I looked at it and I was like,
I think this place gives the best chance to win.
So if he wants to win and he's thinking about the long game at the same time,
I don't know if the Jets are the place because it could be fun for 10 weeks.
Aaron's like 40 years old.
Like he would tell you this.
You don't know how you're going to feel.
He goes, some days I feel old, some days I feel young.
Devonte's over there like, wait, what, bro?
You told me on the phone and you feel great.
Like, you know what I mean?
So I do think that's the one thing people might be missing is like, yes, it would be fun for a year.
But would it be next year?
And does he want to play in two years?
And so that leads me to my next point.
I know a team with an exciting young quarterback that's built around him who's throwing to a number one right now.
It's the Washington commanders.
I hate talking about these guys because they're going to load up.
I don't want to give them any ideas.
but like the argument for the commanders is this.
The argument for the commanders is this.
All right, we can't stop a lot of people now necessarily.
Like we're not that good on defense,
but that's what the head coach is for, right?
That's why we put a lot of personnel into the offense.
He's got Dorrance Armstrong,
rushing his ass off and stuff like that.
They're going to be scrappy, but they're not going to be awesome.
But if you think you're good right now
and you think you're stressing teams to the point where, like,
every possession is stressful and they know you can't punt in the first half because you'll get down to this team because for some reason, and I need a bigger sample size than four games to see it.
So maybe it's like if this thing lingers for a week, you see how you play this week and two weeks.
But this is the year to say, fuck it, let's outscore people.
Look around the league.
Look around the league.
I don't think there's a lot of teams that you're just like, we can't score with them as it is now.
You know what I'm saying?
your defense is I don't think they're a contending team but if you had devante adams you might you might you might get in the playoffs you might like I don't want to put the cart before the horse with this team but that would be scary the way they're executing on second and third down and passing game and you know we looked at the EPA on second down's the best in the league best in the league on third down uh best in the league by a wide margin like eight yards of play on third down like crazy imagine imagine you had him
So my point is like why you do need defensive pieces, if I had told you last year, Chase Young and Montez Sweat are going to end up being Devante Adams and you're going to have like a franchise quarterback.
I think you do that.
So that's kind of what we're looking at here.
If you're the commanders,
I think the Lions should be thinking about it.
Brad Holmes should be thinking about it, honestly.
I talked about them needing a possession receiver.
But if you're going to throw the ball 18 times a game,
you know, I don't know if Devante Adams really wants to be there,
but if you wants to win, that's a place where you can do that.
If you're ring chasing, same thing.
Here's the last thing I'll say before I tell you what the off-the-wall example is.
him all right devonte going to the jets might be fun for a year but then in a year what happens
he might want to retire in two years when he's catching the ball from god knows who like if
rogers leaves mushroom cloud okay you go to you go to Washington that's the kind of situation
that like not just through 2026 you might just be like i want to call dc home you know i want to
play till 40.
Like that's,
that's a kid that keeps you young
because, like,
you're playing with the best,
one of the best.
I'm not saying he's the best,
but I'm saying in three years,
he might be one of the better
quarterbacks in this league.
He already is playing like it.
So I look at that and I say,
like, yeah, we should be paying attention to that.
Steelers,
it's kind of a tweener team for me,
part fantasy,
part real.
I don't think they can pull that off right now.
But maybe they do.
I know they were after I.
Here's your send them to Siberia deal.
Like here's your,
oh yeah,
fuck you.
You want to leave?
go to New England.
New England was looking at a wide receiver.
Maybe you can be that guy.
You're just going to have to sit through a bunch of bullshit for a year,
just like you were here.
And then you've got to roll the dice on a guy we haven't even seen
throw the football in an NFL game.
So there's a lot of ways this could go.
I think trades are fun.
But for the player involved,
I hope he ends up somewhere great because he's a great player and a big fan of his.
So that's it.
I got to go to a meeting.
Bill Belichick's in there.
Wish me luck.
Y'all take care.
I don't know.
