Welcome to the Green Light Podcast.
A very special drop for you today.
It's a Saturday, but the Eagles play football last night.
They were in South Paulo.
They played the Packers one hell of a damn game.
Chris reacts to it.
That's what you'll hear next.
Everything that happened in the game, even in the commercial break,
because Kelsey had a great Buffalo Wild Wings commercial.
All of that, Chris is going to rip at you.
A quick episode.
Thanks for jumping on.
Don't forget, we'll see you on Monday for our week one NFL live reaction.
clock behind me is accurate it's 12.50 in the morning. I don't know if I could sleep if I didn't have to do this. I'm like, I'm wide awake. I am wired. I was standing six inches from the TV for the better part of it, 30 minutes. I took a video at around 11.20 p.m. where I just walked outside.
a cone and said, what the fuck was that?
Like, I'm pretty sure, honestly, that pick in the end zone might have registered on the
Richter scale in South Philly.
Like, people like throwing shit, car alarm's going off.
So it's been a whirlwind over the past 48.
I'm so glad to be back doing this.
I mean, seriously, my wife, like last night walked down and she looked at me and she was like,
I love you.
You're happy.
Like she said that with her eyes.
You know, like, finally, this motherfucker is happy.
Football's back.
So it is interesting looking at the games the last two nights because you had last night a game
where I read the comments on YouTube.
I do because we're still a startup and we only get like 100.
So I like to see which fan bases are like insane.
Last night I came away from that thing being like, oh, there's just nothing you can say without people getting agitated because they've got pent up emotions, a whole offseason long waiting to know who their team is.
And the fear is that like after game one, if you lost, that's who your team is.
I'm not saying Baltimore is not going to be really good.
I think they're a playoff team.
But 30 minutes before the game ended, I put it this way, before Jordan Love got hurt,
and now I don't know what's what.
I would have walked away from this game and said,
Green Bay can be good this year.
Like, I'm not saying, I'm not saying that to slight Baltimore.
But I walked away last night and I was like, yeah, Baltimore's got some issues.
They've got to fix these issues.
I didn't think Green Bay played well tonight, and they looked dangerous.
Like there were times when that that team looked in sync and we'll talk about that.
But more than anything, the story over the last two nights has been the flags, right?
Like you have eight million seriously in Sao Paulo.
It was insane.
Those poor Brazilians, they were like, fuck football.
We're sticking to soccer.
Never bring it here again.
It's like, what are the rules?
I was forgetting what the rules were.
They had referees who were losing their voice.
voices.
The guy did an illegal coordination.
By the kicking team number 58 was not lined up on the line of scrimmage.
So you know that there's been a lot of penalties when Ronald Torberg is losing his voice.
Yeah.
Early in the third.
The guy did an Achilles looked like.
There was a guy that did his Achilles.
Maybe.
They were down a man.
And they were like, can we load manage these guys?
Because just go into the pocket that many times has got to be exhausting.
Yeah.
Like, you know, that's a rotator cuff waiting to have.
happen but somebody popped in Achilles i hope not and nobody and that's a fucked up thing about
being a ref like jordan loves down in the field and we should be we're all frozen but the
ref maybe pops as Achilles and we're just like and back to you right holy shit the guy at the end
of the game he lost his voice people were thinking it was because he was calling so many penalties
i think is because because he was in the streets you know what happens cowboy when you're in the
till five, six in the morning, screaming at your other official buddies in the in the club.
Especially in Sao Paulo. I've been there. I've done that. It's loud. Yeah.
So you got to yell the whole night. It's classic. You get dehydrated. You drink a million beers.
You're out till four in the morning yelling at your buddies. And then you've got to call a game.
It's like a bachelor party if you had to wake up and call a football game.
And I'm not complaining about the officiating. And this is another thing I'm not going to do.
I'm going to make it a policy on these because I don't have the all 22 yet, which I should say.
Like when you see somebody react to a game at 1250 in the morning, I'm not sandbagging, but I don't have all the info.
So, you know, this isn't, this isn't scripture, nor would it be anyways, because I'm not the smartest fucking guy in the world.
But I'm not going to sit up here after all these games and immediately declare a winner and a loser in who got fucked by the refs.
competition. You know, like, I'm not going to do that every night. And I know there might be some
Green Bay fans who are saying, hey, we got jobbed. I mean, there were a couple tic-y-tac calls.
There were a couple missed calls on both sides. There were impactful calls. You could argue that
the bond call shouldn't happen, the roughing. I mean, that was like kind of borderline. It was a
hard hit. But I'm not here to argue either way. The flags are out of control early in the season.
Every year, they're making a different emphasis on something. And then,
what compounds that is, and this isn't the referee's fault, these teams forget how to play football.
You know, we talked about it on inside the NFL and Bill's like, you know, pestering our stat guy
to get him a percentage of how much guys are playing in the preseason.
Eventually, he delivers it on a card.
And Bill's just like, you know, you should see him.
We're in a year to year.
Yeah, he's just like, holy shit.
And it makes perfect sense when you look at all the flags, the laundry on the field.
It's not just like, hey, the officials are trying to be the main character.
You know, there's also a lot of like just stupid shit that's happening.
And I thought, you know, like, again, both games marred by penalties.
Both games went my way as a better.
Okay.
So I'll admit that.
And there were moments where I was like, hey, they held Jalen Carter on the flea flicker or whatever it was.
They missed some calls both ways.
I'm just not going to do this every night.
So if you've got complaints about how I analyze the officiating, I'm not an expert.
I haven't seen the All-22.
I've got to look back.
I haven't tallied it.
Who got killed more on penalties?
It was Green Bay.
But I also think some of that was self-inflicted.
And that's ultimately the shame of the whole thing.
You know, Jordan Love down on that field kind of changes the whole vibe for me.
Big fan of the guy.
He just gets paid.
He does it with humility.
He ascends in, you know, three months span from being a guy that you're like,
I don't know if he's the guy to this guy's the future.
There was a point tonight where Michael Parsons take this for what it's worth.
And listen, I know he tweets a lot.
So do I.
But the motherfucker was like, I think he's in that top five category.
There was a point in the game where he was making some throws that were pretty high quality throws.
and you're looking at this team,
and I think the shame of it is.
And I don't know what the injury is.
Could be, like here, I'm going to say,
I don't want to speculate,
and then I'll guess, like we all do.
I mean, it definitely looked like
could have been a high ankle.
If that's the case, that's going to hurt.
And it's on his left foot.
Don't have to be a doctor to know that.
You know, it's tough to imagine a guy,
because I've had the high ankle,
and I had it bad one year and had to play on it.
like just didn't shot it up just played on it didn't miss any time i don't expect that to be the
standard especially for a guy who's got to step into throws and that sort of thing and you know you don't
want to fucking risk it with a guy like that this early for me i was a defensive lineman a grunt guy
trying to hit it big on my uh contract season and it worked out for me but i lost mobility in that
ankle. So I hope that Jordan Love is treated the right way in rehab, whatever it is, whether it's an
ankle, if it's a contusion, if it's a fucking MCL, like whatever it is. God forbid, it's something worse.
I just hope they don't rush him. You just gave them the bag. Let's keep the main thing,
the main thing. And half the reason I say that is like, you got a really good core.
like that's what's apparent to me watching this game you know i'm i'm looking at the offense and i'm
saying you know matt lefleur's talking about i don't know who the number one is i'm tired of people
asking me who the number one is i don't know either but tonight it looked like jane reed and he's not
like a guy you think of as a typical just like stick him outside number one guy like a big target
or uh you know possession guy or just straight line speed guy he's shifty you can
really weaponize him pre-snap, you know, some of those crossers, the explosive touchdown,
which obviously is a drop coverage. But if you make a little mistake with this guy, it can be
curtains. And having a guy like that on your offenses, you know, Dobbs is a stud, you know,
I'm number one member of his fan club. Don Tavian Wicks, love him. He slipped tonight. He didn't
get on the board, but he's still a player. And you look at moments late in the game.
when they have that element on the ground late and early.
I mean, there was, you know, Wilson had a drive where, you know,
they're staying in that too high shell and they're like, fine.
We're just going to jam it down your throat.
And the broadcasters are talking about here comes the play action pass.
And I'm like, I don't know because it was working.
I think Reed had an end around on that drive.
Yep.
And, you know, you're watching them when they're actually in phase.
and they're not making mistakes and you're like, the shame of it is,
this quarterback at the end of the game is laying on the grass there.
And I'm seeing what's a really promising season, possibly get impeded by a freak injury.
You know, and you could blame it on the grass.
I'm not going to blame it on the grass.
The grass was awful.
And, you know, at the end of the game as an Eagles fan, you're like, here we go again.
I mean, even with 30 seconds to go, you're like, one guy slips.
you know, didn't go so well for them in the Super Bowl with bad sod.
This is Brazilian grass.
You know, it's unpredictable.
And the NFL, honestly, is fucking culpable there.
You send these guys down 10 hours, whatever it is, the first game in the southern hemisphere.
It's a Friday night game.
It's a banner night for the league.
You're lucky nobody got hurt because of the grass.
I don't contend that love got hurt.
because of the grass.
He was pinned under Jalen Carter.
It was a freak play.
But the NFL's got to be careful.
When you're sending your guys off,
you know, just protect the product
because that was, that was just,
it wasn't quality.
And I know quality grass when I see it.
And so like the thing about Green Bay that's also a shame,
I was just talking about this,
was the Wilson drive and then the Jacobs run late in the game
where you're just like,
Like, this is an element of their game that took a step up.
And last year, they hurt people with play action pass.
And last year, when they wanted to, they got, they ran the ball down people's
throats.
I mean, they ran the ball in Kansas City, if I remember correctly.
They ran the ball in Detroit.
You know, they, they found an identity.
And now you had Jacobs.
When Jacobs toaded the rock late in the game and they did a good job of spelling him,
you know, it was like in my head, imagine trying to tackle this motherfucker in December.
There was a point, and I'm going to talk about this later, where Jalen Carter chased down a screen and CJ knives across the field from the other half.
And he gets in on the play because he's a fucking stud.
He's a warrior.
He's out there.
He's a missile.
I love the guy.
He wraps.
He gets something happens to his hand and he's on the ground.
And they get the camera on him.
He's like, oh, my mama, I'm going to get you, motherfucker.
Yeah.
That was awesome.
And I'm like, oh, he's okay.
and he's going to get somebody.
Well, he had his shot at Jacobs and he had a full head of steam and he went in there just like
kamikaze man and Jacobs just ran through him.
His fucking thigh.
It just went pop.
And I'm just like, I'm imagining, you know, the steam coming out of motherfuckers face masks at
Lambo and Josh Jacobs being like, you can get me in December?
You know what I mean?
It adds an element now.
And like I said, there were drives where you're waiting for the play action pass.
So as a coordinator, you're like, are they going to do it?
Are they going to do it?
And they just keep running the fucking football.
And so there's a lot to be excited about with that offense.
It just all comes down to what happens tomorrow morning or the two mornings from now when there's an MRI
or hopefully we hear something good because I think all football fans.
And this isn't one of those things.
And Dan from part of my take, Big Cat, as you know them.
They're funny about this.
Anytime somebody gets hurt, there's always invariably fans from other teams that are like,
even as a Saints fan, I'm bummed that Chris Godwin's hurt.
I'm not saying it like that.
I'm saying there are some guys in this league that obviously everybody loves.
And Jordan loves one of the.
those guys that I think fan bases all over the country can get behind and say, hey, this guy's a good
kid.
I love his story.
He sat for years.
He stepped up last year.
He got paid.
He did it with humility.
And now he's on the fucking turf in South Paulo.
It sucks.
It was a bad way to end the game for the NFL, not that they're culpable in that injury.
It's just bad luck.
And it sucks for the Packers.
Now, defensively, that front.
That's fucking awesome. Quay Walker looks a little like quicker.
Yep.
And he's a big dude.
When we went to Green Bay for camp and Eagles fans, bear with me, okay?
Because I'm going to talk about the Eagles plenty.
We're just, we're giving it to Green Bay for a second.
There are our guests.
Okay.
People say we're not good hosts.
Let's be good hosts.
Okay.
So, and I know we won the fucking game.
We're awesome.
We'll get there.
It's a good team you beat.
So Quay Walker looks.
lean he looks energized um you know in that pick jane was a terrible throw but he's running down
the fucking seam with uh he's carrying smitty yeah carrying smitty the second level and uh you know made
some plays he wasn't perfect but i thought quay looked good bullard is made of concrete same stuff
jacob is made of there's a couple guys up there they're hanging out in the uh in the construction
yard drinking concrete drinking quick crete or something yeah because he's that you're
These motherfuckers are stuck.
Like Bullard, when AJ Brown ran into him and crumpled into a ball, I was like, holy shit.
And then they were like Bullard 510, 185.
I was like, there's something different about that guy.
And it sucks to not give you any better commentary other than that guy's like maybe a badass,
but McKinney, immediate impact.
And the defense in general did not have those, what are you doing moments that plagued them?
like why is quay walker out there lined up across from that fast guy stuff like that i can't again
make a determination on how halfly called the game without looking at the all 22 but again i look at
this team and i say it's a shame because there are positives ultimately though negatives outweighed
the positives and that that's kind of why i end up losing that game he came all that way he made
a bunch of mistakes and again you can chalk sum it up to the preseason penalties were everywhere
Right.
The refs are going to be an America's team this coming week.
Touchdown off the board.
24 players on the field.
I've never seen anything like it.
It looked like fucking water polo out there.
Just too many people.
You know, you think about a chance to just punch him in the mouth there.
And if you go up 14-0 in that game early, I don't know.
You had your chances two times in the red zone.
OPI in the red zone.
You miss Watson down there.
And as much as I talk about it.
the good throws Jordan Love made.
Don't worry if you're sitting here thinking like,
he fucking sucked late in the game.
I'm going to get there.
They had zero timeouts with 10 minutes to go in the second quarter.
They had a terrible two point play.
Jalen Carter, you know, jumps off sides.
The whole city's like,
fuck.
And I'm sitting there on the couch like, all right,
because I play mad.
And I'm like, all right, they might go for two.
Like, I don't know.
Somebody could slip.
ended up just calling the most vanilla play ever and didn't stress the eagles at all.
You end up up 12-7.
You know, that's a different deal there.
So two penalties on the last drive, one of them was tiki tack on Alexander.
The other one, listen, I know you don't like it because Jalen Hertz is climbing the pocket,
but of course, is the Kenny Clark hold on Sequin by letter of the law that's a hold.
So, you know, it's a tough one, but it is a penalty.
And ultimately, as a whole, Green Bay just gave them.
You know, like Philly gave him a little crack in the door, and they didn't bust through it.
You know, and there was an opportunity when Philly stalled, you know, and when they stalled, they stalled.
And Green Bay just couldn't do anything with it.
And it ultimately was on love.
And I don't know what was going on with him, you know.
And he had his games last year where he'd play really well.
And then, you know, he'd have his spells like the New York game or something like that.
So, again, I chalk a lot of this up to preseason.
but he missed some throws.
Like he just missed some throws where, you know, he was behind Dobbs or, you know,
like there was a drive where he missed like two, three in a row.
Miss Reed over the middle, then a little behind Dobbs.
And well, there are two illegal shifts on that drive as well.
And it was just a bad drive.
And, you know, Zach Bonn, who I'm going to talk about in a little bit,
drilled him on that penalty.
And I didn't think it was dirty or anything.
but it was like kind of from that point on the bad throws kept happening and they were panning
you know out of the commercial to him with the therapy gun the ther gun on his calf which means
he's got an adhesion or he's feeling something I don't know if he's feeling in his Achilles or his
calf but I'd imagine that makes it hard to push off not making excuses didn't make throws you know
and the pick I'm going to give Blankenship a lot of love but Kirk Benkirk who's a big person
personality on Twitter, former NFL quarterback, Wahoo.
He's got a great video game, like fan base.
Guys, like a huge Twitch guy.
He's twitching all the time.
He says he can kick my ass and madden.
We'll see one day.
This dude claims, and I trust him, that Musgraves actually got to cross that safety.
And so not only was it a great play by Reebtship, but it's also like kind of an operational thing.
So yeah, mixed bag, Green Bay, enticing, man.
Like the bones are there.
Let's just pray for the right outcome on the MRI or whatever it is.
The last thing on Green Bay, holy shit, you got to work on your Hail Mary's there.
I was like, here comes Liberty's own, Malik Willis.
Let's see.
I mean, you throw the ball 85 yards.
Ironically, the most live arm in the league.
You just couldn't even get it out of the heart.
Couldn't even get it out of the holster.
You know what I mean?
Shot himself in the leg.
But when he took that sack, I was just like, oh, my God.
Like, talk about just a brutal ending.
And before I'm critical of Jalen Hertz, I just want to say this.
He was good for a lot of the night.
Like, he made some big throws.
The one of the end zone, he put some touch on that thing.
Motion on that play.
I think I mentioned that.
And then, you know, you had AJ Brown.
you know, Smith on the sideline and finishing the game the way he did.
You know, that's the type of guy.
It's the best friend of a four-minute offense.
If you just make the right decisions, you know, he can churn it with his legs.
I like when he's decisive and he pulls it down, you know, get to the sideline, find a crease and go.
You know, some of these plays where he's extending, as we're talking about, they don't do it for me.
when he tucks it and just goes,
and I sound like a real simpleton saying that,
but if it's not there,
don't extend the play, just go.
And I thought, like, down the stretch,
he used his legs.
And if he's the type,
if he has the mindset right now,
where he's like,
him saving that for late in the game,
that's great.
But also, in some key situations,
it wouldn't be bad to see.
And I know he's got that in his bag,
but I will say this,
like gutsy performance from him
overcoming a couple really bad sequences.
That's another thing.
The stuff I'm about to describe was bad.
And he was able to bounce back twice.
Lead a touchdown drive.
And after the McKinney pick, they really got going.
So I'm about to give him the medicine here.
But he did do some good things.
Jalen Hurts has to play better.
You know it.
I know it.
The pick was so bad.
the in the end zone i had to hit the porch so like i was stressing over that just like you at home
you're an eagles fan because there's all this hey you know you guys did it you aggris you philly
aggregators you philly reporters i love you all but you got to own this one it's all your fault
the picking the picking the red zone's your fault the you know ignoring the safety or only the game's
your fault because you're keeping track of how many fucking throws without an interception he had and
camp. Like that's like sitting in the dugout and being like, you got a no-no? You don't do that.
And the minute I started seeing that, I was like, it's got, plus, they didn't play in preseason.
Same thing I'm going to say about Jordan Love, but he has to play better because like, this team can win with him perfect QB play.
You just saw it. And there are things he did well. I'm not, I'm not going to ignore those things.
But I just want to get that out of the way to level set because people are always like, oh, you took it easier.
You know, what about the bad throws?
He stunk it up for a couple sequences.
It's almost like he just snaps into it and snaps out of it.
Can't have that, right?
There was a lot of, like, waiting to see what he looked like in this offense.
And I thought he looked pretty good most of the game, 90% of the game.
But that 10%, the floor on that 10% is low.
You got to improve that floor.
There was Juergens bad snap early.
He lost the ball.
I've sitting there thinking watching a Kelsey Buffalo Wild Wings
commercial. I'm like, he might have more leverage than any human being on the planet right now.
Like the whole city's watching this game and he's saying, there was a time when I got hurt,
okay, and I'm not Jason Kelsey. But when I was in St. Louis, I got hurt. Played like 100 games
straight. Got hurt. Went on IR. They nicknamed us Sack City the year before, which is funny.
Like R.D. Line was Sacks City. And they were like Sack City. Sack City, B.
And he had like a little like we had 50 something sacks and this is 16 games back in the day.
We had some dogs.
Got hurt.
I wasn't the straw that stirred the drink.
I was I was part of it.
I was a big part of it.
But like Robert Quinn was on the team and shit.
I got hurt.
They go on like a five game streak with no sacks.
I'm sitting there in the beginning like, fuck.
And then like three, four games in it.
I'm like, is this good for me?
Not really, but because I couldn't be back on the field anyways.
It wasn't up for a new deal or anything.
But I look at Kelsey and he's sitting there.
And by the way, he's so magnetic.
He's so magnetic they put him in a Buffalo Wild Wings commercial.
The plot of the commercial is him walking into a Buffalo Wild Wings.
And there's just a giant Buffalo.
And he's like, football's back.
And they sit down and Kelsey's just like, football.
And the buffalo, the buffalo is like, football.
Just house and wings.
When they brought him the beer, you could see the genuine joy in Kelsey's face.
He was like, here we go.
That's what I mean.
That's all he was probably so excited to sit next to a CGI Buffalo.
You know, and it just goes to show you, like they were sitting in the fucking the ad meeting, like Mad Men, which I've never watched.
I got to change that.
But they're sitting in there and they're like, I don't know, just fucking sit him down next to the Buffalo.
And they say football a couple times.
It was an admin pitch.
That's what I think.
It was an admin.
It was you and Macon just, you and Macon just told him one day in the RV.
I would have booed making off the stage pitching that ad.
But it's a home run because that guy's special.
And he was also special in the football field.
When you watch the joy that Nick Seriani had and like anguish a little bit,
that he's not there anymore talking to um who is he talking to pre uh maybe it's Tony
dunge and he's like this is movie stuff it's like uh remember the titan some of these highlights
where Kelsey's out in space and he's drilling one person and then he's running up to the third level
hitting somebody there fourth level decleting somebody up there um and that's true but the thing
they miss the most is the cohesion they miss the the the the the
steadiness of like not having to worry about a bad snap.
When he used to have a bad snap, it was like, stop the press.
You know, like, when they had a weird pre-snap thing, it was like, what was that?
Now you're seeing how the other side lives, you know, and I think the fans are all sitting
there seeing that and tweeting about it and Kelsey's live tweeting the game.
And I'm pretty sure all his mentions are like, I'll suck your dick, man.
And I'm pretty sure if he walked back in the building, and this isn't to take anything away from those other guys, because they're learning, right?
If you walk back in the building, Howie Rosen's what?
Five, ten?
I'll give him five, ten.
He'd be five.
He'd be four.
He'd get, he'd be three feet tall and a heartbeat.
You know what I mean?
It's like everybody in the building would just be like,
And so I just look at him and he's like he's what he he he he's on TV.
He's in commercials.
He's the most popular guy right now.
And he's also missed on the football field because you look at this stuff and you're like,
holy shit.
Some of the pre-snap stuff, 5.30 to go in the game.
You know, this is on Jalen or whoever it's on.
Like they have to take a time out because the play clock.
about to run out.
So they don't necessarily need that timeout, but what if they did?
You know, there's little things, man.
The tush push look like, do you remember the Major League series?
Like the movies?
The best series ever.
Oh, yeah.
One of the best sports series, one of the best series period of all time.
Fuck you, Joe Boo.
All right.
Do you remember Major League four?
Mm-hmm.
Back to the minors.
Yeah.
That's what the tush push looked like tonight.
Right. Yeah, the first one that failed.
It was like, this is the tush push.
And even I think there was like a second one where Jalen, like there was a second where he stopped and then fine.
And then Sequin like pushed him through. But yeah, it was, it was different.
They got it over the finish line a couple times, but like including the bad snap, there were multiple bad snaps, you know, the throws.
Okay. And this is this is the thing. It was when I talk about Jalen has to play better.
it's holy shit the McKinney throw and I'll put this on preseason but like it's like this it's like
McKinney had invisibility cloak it was like at first there was a flat wall his own defenders underneath
and he's thinking Smith's just going to run through this wall and I'm going to fit it in there in
the middle of the field because the safety's not there whatever he's thinking and quay
Walker, who impressively runs with Smith, strive for stride, kind of, is right on him.
And he's going to have to throw that ball back shoulder or something.
I don't know.
But he takes something off it, which I texted Dan Orlovsky to be like, what's he thinking
there?
And Dan's like, I actually think he didn't see the safety at all, which kind of confirms
what I was thinking.
He's thinking his own.
And then when he sees this man, he's like, fuck, I get the matchup.
I want.
I get Quay Walker on Smith.
Let me go there.
And he doesn't see the safety.
so he takes a little off it, right?
And so, you know, it's lapses like that.
It's lapses like the red zone.
The pick in the red zone, Nolan, I'm texting you the whole game.
I'm going, stop rolling right.
Tuck it and run.
Be decisive.
There has been nothing good that has happened rolling right tonight.
And I also feel like that's kind of a thing.
Like if you can keep him muddied up on that right edge.
Yeah.
It's not like a good spot for him.
And I thought Green Bay did a good job of keeping him in the pocket.
But he finally gets out of the pocket in the red zone.
I know he took a sack in the red zone earlier.
But that doesn't mean burn the ball into the end zone.
It was like five people back there.
I don't know exactly what coverage they were in, but it wasn't too deep.
I think getting late in the down, it's just like, you know, you're like the old adage of you just don't throw the ball late over the middle.
And to your point about just not seeing McKinney,
it felt like that was the same thing that happened.
The play before the Reds and I&T with Nixon and the flat.
I mean, put it right on them.
And that's where it all started.
You know, you could see it where you're like,
things are going so good.
They had just pounded the ball.
Like there was a sequence where they got the ball in the red zone
and they gave it to Sequin like three times.
and the second of last play,
Mackay Beckton and Lane,
who they ran behind a lot,
took,
it might have been Kenny Clark,
I don't want to disrespect anybody,
but they actually took somebody for a ride.
You know,
and if it was Kenny Clark,
that's pretty fucking impressive.
And Bechton's a big man.
So there's nothing you can do about it.
It's a wall of water coming at you.
It's a tsunami.
The Skukle tsunami is what I'm going to call them.
Nice.
If they can do what they did on that down.
But I'm watching,
I'm like,
This is the Eagles, right?
And, you know, they get cute after that.
They have second and short, and they're, you know,
it's like quarterback run stuff.
Doesn't really work out.
And then there's the Nixon near pick six.
I mean, it should have been six.
On that play, the guard's not out of his stance.
So they're all over the place in some really weird spots.
And I just want to see that improve, like the bad little moments.
You know, the offense as a whole and most of the game for Jalen, I'm walking away saying, okay, that Kellen Moore guy is actually what I'm, like, that Kellen Moore guy, he might be popular in this city.
If he can hit the curveball when they adjust to whatever he's doing, it's week one, right?
Okay.
And you got a college defensive coordinator, you know, so let me not get out over my skis, but I,
I saw things with this offense that immediately, like you want something for Christmas,
first fucking present you open.
Second player of the game.
Second play of the game.
They go motion.
Smith comes across formation.
Corner bumps out with him slightly.
You got Brown on a linebacker.
And he drops the ball.
But like, I'm like, oh, my God.
They motion somebody.
I remember New England last year, they tried it like a couple times.
And then they just like, fuck this shit.
It feels like learning how to ride.
a bike or something watching them do it last year.
And tonight it looked like they knew what they were doing.
Like it wasn't like they were just like, hey, let's motion some guys.
You know, the touchdown out of the half, there was motion there.
Yeah, they were 65.8% motion rate tonight, that being the highest mark in a single game for the Eagle since 2020.
And Jalen clearly likes it too.
Unplay's featured motion.
This is all per next gen stats, 15 of 21.
for 212 and 2 TDs, plays without motion, 5 of 13, 66 yards, two picks.
They were also just good play designs.
You know, like, and I saw Shipley in there, like, with some two back stuff and Shipley
in motion.
I forget one of the plays where, you know, AJ cleared somebody out, you know, and they hit
the underneath, you're just watching the whole thing go and you're like, oh, my God, I know
what they're doing.
You know, when you, when, because on the field, it's not like watching on TV.
We sometimes know what they're doing before the defense does.
And we sometimes can tell the purpose of the play before people in, and we're sitting there.
And I'm, I know you feel it.
If you're an Eagles fan, you're like, oh, my God, they did that on purpose.
You know, and it sounds simple, but versatile alignments, you pointed this out in all,
and like, you saw those guys in different alignments.
That was great, guys in the slot.
Yeah, AJ in the slot a lot.
It's just such a tough matchup.
Whether you're going to bump a safety down, you're going to have a size mismatch
with a slot corner.
That's going to be one they're going to take advantage of a lot.
No question.
And they're under center some.
Man, hot.
Unnamed coordinator says, you know, Jalen can't beat the blitz.
And it isn't to say a couple times answers the question, but at least they had some answers.
You know, there was a sequence in the second quarter where they hit two hots, you know, in a row.
You know, the second one wasn't spectacular, but I thought it was good to just have an answer because we were all waiting for that.
And then late in the game, I think they hit Dallas got on a third down on a hot.
So like, I'm not saying they're all hots, but what I am saying is they're all answers.
And that's something we didn't have last year.
We got damn, here we go.
Chris, you're washed.
You're in the kitchen, podcasting.
You don't want to wake the kids.
I got all three kids this weekend.
That's why I'm not in the studio.
Couldn't go to the outbuilding.
So anyways, long drives.
You remember those last year, the closeouts?
You had one of those at the end of the game.
That was great.
They were in an empty wrinkle at one point.
Like, I was excited about what the offense looked like.
And for most of the game.
And DeMonte Smith, I want to give the guy's fucking flowers.
I always do.
You know, I always talk about how, like, he's a guy.
I'm like, hey, kid, my son, who do you like?
Watch this guy.
This guy does everything right.
Oh, they took his captain ship.
You know, there were 12 fucking captains on team last year.
Who cares?
Games on the line?
They go to him twice.
Guy weighs 140 pounds.
Soaking wet.
He's breaking tackles.
He's putting his head down.
He's doing dirty work.
It's a guy you want to go to war with.
Hats off to him.
I don't know how he played every snap of the game,
but he's a guy you fucking trust.
He's nails.
Same thing, Sequan Barkley.
Feel like I've known you all your life.
Feel like you've been in Philly your whole life,
even though I only started being in Philly seven years ago,
but I'm feeling like a homer.
And also as a football fan,
I was on teams.
that sucked.
And, you know, you got to be Sequan Barkley good for people to know who you are when you're playing on a team like he's been playing on, right?
And to watch him, first off, first person I saw in warm-ups, Sequan Berkeley, almost shed a tear in a black eagle's helmet with black pants.
I was like, hey, that get-up looks incredible.
Well, it's Sequin Barclay.
Of course, it's going to look cool in it.
But sight for sore eyes.
Not only is it a running back that Harry Roseman's invested in,
but one of the best of our generation, if he's healthy, right?
Like, he's that good.
And you could see it immediately what he adds to this offense.
And when he took the ball for 33 yards,
you know, it wasn't like Xavier Worthy, Chris off the couch,
but I was six inches from the TV.
And, you know, see him after the game,
smiling, that sort of thing.
Good for him.
We do deserve nice things.
Let's take good care of this guy.
Hope he stays healthy.
Because if he does,
this is going to be a fun year on offense because of that dude.
So the offensive line play, I shouted them out.
Can't give you a real assessment of who played perfect, who didn't.
but you saw some Philly front stuff.
And Stoutland did a good job of getting that group ready.
You go on the road.
It's not hostile environment per se, but it's Brazil.
It's a long way away.
You've got the right guard spot, the center spot.
They survived, you know?
Love to the defense, dude.
That's what I have here.
Give some love to the defense.
Finish this thing with some love for the defense.
Because, you know, I feel like there are a lot of people
coming in there like where's the
past first going to be where's the young
secondary that sort of thing
and these are all concerns that I have to at times
but
they really hung tough
you talk about giving up 29 points
of this team and there were moments where it felt like
Green Bay was moving the ball at will including coming
out of the gate where they're playing with tempo
and they hit you on a fucking touchdown
and you got 12 men on the field thank God 24
Green Bay's trying to tempo you
they're throwing the ball at Mitchell
you know
who hung tough and played really well.
Drop one guy late in the game, but he played really well, and they tested him.
And Green Bay came out and looked really sharp.
But as a whole, they gave up 29 points to Green Bay,
six of them on short fields with the offense,
could have been 14 if they weren't on their shit,
new coordinator, gave up one explosive touchdown.
I'm sorry, but this is like D-Corpsinator speak.
a lot of times after game like this.
And I don't know how Vic coaches,
I would imagine he's going to walk in and motherfucker people maybe.
But, you know, I've had a lot of coaches
to walk in and say, hey, guys,
we just gave up 29 points to that group.
It's the highest paid quarterback in football.
They're four deep at wide receiver.
They brought in one of the toughest running backs in the league.
They've got a good offensive line.
And you could argue it's two turnovers,
which you can't control,
and one explosive that we can get fixed.
that's 13 points.
You can hold that team under 20.
And so I look at the defense and I say,
hey, the red zone, post-McKinney,
post the fumbled snap,
you know, Green Bay gets down there again.
They force a miss field goal, right?
And then inside the 10, after that interception,
Green Bay goes the length of the field.
You're like, I've seen this movie, right?
No, I mean, the guys stepped up.
You talk about pass rush.
I know the guys didn't have 15 sacks tonight.
But second down, Brandon Graham, doing Brandon Graham things.
He's 40 years old.
He's probably got an office in the building.
And nobody notices, but he forces a hurry.
Okay.
Now let's sign it up for third down.
And you're putting the pressure on these guys because if they don't convert,
they're going to decide on fourth down.
And this guy, 97, and I'm learning his name, a Jomo.
Yep, Maro.
great job buddy games on the fucking line
games on the line
I got chills thinking about it
and you're the guy
you line up with the game on the line
as a defense al lineman
I used to always say it could be me
let's find out
and that dude
that dude was the guy that made the play
he forced the overthrow
and that's the difference between
fourth and one
with the game on the line
after that drive at the end of the game for the Eagles offense,
or let's just kick this field goal and get out of here.
So the defensive line, I know there's going to be some people nitpicking.
You didn't see much from Huff.
I don't think that grass was fair to rushers.
I'm not going to give them excuses,
but I don't think either side show what they really could do because of that grass.
And I don't think Bryce Huff is the type of guy that's going to be out there on shitty turf.
He's a guy that's got a lot of torque,
lot of power. He's got to dig those cleats in the ground. So I'm not making excuses,
but I think you're going to be happy with the pass rush. And Josh Sweat forced a big hole in the
red zone. You know, it's not going to be sexy, but it wasn't always sexy when we won the damn
Super Bowl. We didn't have any double digit guys. I think Jalen Carter could go for 12. Okay. And I know
I'm a Jalen Carter stand. But, you know, and there's going to be people who say, oh, the
I thought that was tiki-tag.
He unintentionally saved us a point on the off-sides.
He was so close to wrecking the game at different points in the game.
Like, he was this close to make it.
And it's the first game of the year.
And I know people are going to say, I saw a tweet tonight from Trey Wingo, who's my dude,
but he was like, Jordan Davis and Jalen Carter haven't earned living up to the draft status.
And I was like, okay, we can talk about Jordan Davis.
But don't talk about Jalen Carter.
Because every offensive room that prepares to play the Philadelphia Eagles starts their meeting.
If I had to guess, talking about a couple guys.
And they're talking about him pretty early in that meeting.
We cannot let him wreck the game.
And he's very disruptive.
And so, you know, stat watchers, people that just say, what's Chris Collins worth talking about?
You might miss it.
But this guy's a fucking dog.
and he's going to be fine if he can keep his head down and work.
And the thing I love about him is, and I saw this in Tampa game last year,
I wanted to give him a hug.
Same thing with this one.
The screen that CJ Gardner Johnson got hurt on,
he takes off down the field and he's busting his ass to finish that play.
And those are the guys you want to play with.
And so, you know, like the Georgia guys in general,
they got a microscope on him.
I thought Jordan Davis came out and asserted himself immediately.
That was good.
The Kobe Dean kind of feels like, and I like the guy.
I admire the guy.
Like, I respect the guy.
You can tell he does things right, plays hard.
He can be a real knife in the run game, but he can also kind of have bad eyes.
And so he's young.
So we'll see.
He almost had to pick six.
He blew up a screen, had a TFL.
So it was a mixed bag, but I'll be damned if, you know, he's got playmaking ability.
So, you know, there's guys we got a shot.
on this defense, man, because they hung tough.
There were a lot of hidden plays that D-line made.
I'll put it that way.
C.J. Gardner Johnson, dog, already shouted him out.
The guy that probably deserves two guys, heroes.
Let's have a fucking ceremony for these guys right here, guys.
Just us.
140 in the morning.
Is that what time it is?
140 in the morning.
It's 140 in the morning.
I'm going to talk about these two guys.
I've stayed up this late.
Zach Bond.
Zach Bonn's a good football player.
We told you so.
He might be one of these signings that you're like,
we didn't think about that one,
how he brought him in,
but he turned out to be a fan favorite
and a key player.
And he's known to make those signings.
And this guy kind of got lost in the shuffle his last stop,
and he wasn't a household name.
But what he could do is he could rush the passer.
You saw that show up tonight.
He jumps around in the run game.
Like he's, he's,
He's shifting.
And he's pretty good in coverage, Noel.
I thought he did a pretty good job.
Yep.
Yeah, good instincts there too.
Versatile.
And the second guy, who's an absolute hero, is Reeb Blankenship.
Yep.
That was an incredible play.
And I talked about, like, you know, you can put it on the musgrave.
You could put it on Jordan Love.
But that play right there, you'll look back at plays like that when you're in the hunt for a number one seed.
or the division, God help us all, because I just had that MGM bet today.
And some guy in the comments, he was like, Jalen Hurtson, who you think he is, that's a donation.
And he's in my head like fucking Lloyd Christmas.
Like I'm fucking on the shitter in Aspen, full of laxatives.
I'm like sitting there and I'm looking at the TV.
It's like, I'm imagining Jeff from Scranton being like, hey, Chris, stupid.
motherfucker. Jalen's not that good. So I need you to win the division, please. But read Blanketship's
play at the end of that game was one of those plays where you're like, that could be a difference
in a lot of stuff happening or not happening this year. I mean, that that game, a game came down
to plays like that. So defense, kind of heroes, offense showed a lot of potential. And Green Bay,
I hope the potential is not wasted because of a freak injury.
trying to move the ball down on the field with 30 seconds ago in the damn game because they did a lot of good things.
They also did a lot of sloppy shit.
Guys don't play in preseason.
It will improve.
I cannot wait till Sunday.
Thank you for watching.
Packers, great organization, great fans.
Enjoyed our time up in Green Bay for camp and birds fans.
You know what time it is.
Go Eagles.
