Starting point is 00:00:00 At what point do you realize that the fans are saying Heath every time you catch the ball? Not right away. Not right away. I remember the first preseason game. It was kind of, you know, it wasn't as loud as it became, but people started yelling. You know, it was like a low, mumbly roar through the stadium when I caught the ball. And I remember, like, oh, geez, did they want maybe someone that they were happy with the tick, you know? When I selected that in the first round that year.
Starting point is 00:00:28 But then I quickly realized, you know, they were saying my name. And I think throughout my career, especially toward the end, I kind of realized what a special bond that, you know, not only the team has, but, you know, I felt like I had with the fans and how much they appreciated what I brought to the team and the way I went about my business. And it was really cool. Welcome to the Greenlight podcast. Another making lead episode. This one's a little bit of a freak show. Friday. We've got Nate and we've got Coach Backy in the studio. We talk to some of our favorite tight ends because today is tight end day here at Greenlight. Heath Miller, former UVA legend in Pittsburgh
Starting point is 00:01:11 Steeler Femann joins Macon to talk about the Steelers, his time with Ben Rothesberger winning a couple Super Bowls, his transition to being a tight end after coming to UVA as a quarterback and now becoming a high school football coach. After Heath, we explore the fun. Makin talks about his birthday, a great day we had on the links. Coach Becky gives us a quick sports history level. lesson. We talk about the first couple episodes of Giants Hard Knocks, and then a quick little summer vacations draft. Last episode, we talked about how we all hated the beach. How about some places that aren't the beach that you can go travel to? We draft them. Y'all enjoy the show. We will be back on Tuesday with Honey Bobo. The Butter King is going to be rocking next week.
Starting point is 00:01:50 Y'all enjoy. We will catch you then. Swords Creek, Virginia. Hello. So hometown of the great Heath Miller, who's on the program today, two-time Super Bowl winner with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Mackie Award winner at the University of Virginia. All around good guy, hard nose, workman-like, reliable, dependable. Probably be a Hall of Famer if these voters would get their noses out of the box scores, you know? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Didn't catch a ton of balls, not a ton of receiving yards for these other Hall of Fame tight ends. But boy, did he do everything. Great player, great guy. He's on the program. We're going to have a lot of fun on the back half of this show. Credit to C-Long for taking two weeks off, huh? Yeah. I don't know that he's done that yet in four to five years of doing the program.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Is that right, Cowboy? You would know better than anybody. Did it last year. Perfect. Well, well-earned time off. and said he would send along a lot of Heath Miller notes. Didn't do it, which is great. I'm glad he's taking some time.
Starting point is 00:03:31 Dr. Fax is in here, so is Coach Bakke Fax. Who's your favorite tight end that you played with? My favorite tight end? I would probably have to say, well, I'm going to give it to John Phillips. Okay. That's my guy. And JP was one of the, just like you said about Heath, Just hard nose.
Starting point is 00:03:53 And for me, like, the countryest white boy I've ever met for sure. And been around when I came from New York to come to college in Virginia. And I was just like, this, like, he's like a movie character to me. Just all around. I watched him catch a raccoon with his bare hand. So stuff like that. Like stuff like that, like I have like like installed in my brain just being around John Phillips and like living with him a few years at, um, Virginia.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Virginia. So I would definitely put him up there on the list. And then I would say Mercedes-Lewis, who I don't know if he's retired yet, but he's going on close to, I don't know how many years, 10-plus years in the league. And I just remember playing in Jacksonville and just being like, this dude looks like a basketball player and playing tight in. And this selfless guy, like go out there, block 80 times, 70, 80 times a game. and maybe catch a few passes, never complains, and always working hard in the gym, took care of his body, always doing something to get better while off the field. So he was definitely a guy that I enjoyed being around. 24 will be Mercedes 19th year in the league. Oh, look at that. Did you ever ask him why it's Mercedes and not Mercedes? No, I never got the chance to ask him.
Starting point is 00:05:19 I think he likes it said, though, Mercedes, like it's a Mercedes. Yeah. Even though it's M-A-R. Regis said his name crazy. Mercedes is... But... But... He also said pronunciation pretty crazy, too, for being honest.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Coach, your... The headline here is that Heath Miller's not a high school football coach. And what exactly are you on that staff? I'm uh what do we say earlier considerary yeah there you go yeah you're your recruiting coordinator for a independent school makes shit happen guy yeah i can't forget i can't remember his name what's the college guy's name from um michigan Connor stallion oh nice
Starting point is 00:06:08 Connor stallion yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah i like that uh yeah i've been working with heath what an incredible guy um my new best friend run. Sorry, makes. No, it's all good. On the number two. That's fine. But yeah, he's, you can, you could see why he was so successful at the NFL level with how he's been treating this program. And it's been an honor to work with him, to be honest. He played for Cowher and Tomlin. Yeah. Hearing some of those stories. And it's not like crazy stories about all this happened or that. just like how they went about work and how he talks about Tomlin. And it's pretty incredible to hear some of the,
Starting point is 00:06:52 you can see why those guys are successful for so long. Yeah, good dude. Facts. Hit us with a layup line. Layup line this week is going to Boss man Dilo. Get in with me. Boss man Dilo. I think you might like some boss man Dilo.
Starting point is 00:07:08 You should check them out. Get in with me. Yeah. I can't imagine. You want to be a boss? You got to be a froze. Like a bag of ice. Can't imagine a better lead-in for Honaker, Virginia's own, Heath Miller.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Back in, we're talking underwear. We're talking hard knocks. There's a history lesson. Destinations draft. It's going to be a lot of fun. Stick with us. Here's Heath. All right, Heath.
Starting point is 00:07:53 I want to start with a quote about you from Mike Tomlin. and then without allowing you to respond, I want to ask about your childhood and the place you're from, and then we'll circle back to these words a little later. Okay. Here's what Coach Tomlin said. He is not low maintenance. He is no maintenance.
Starting point is 00:08:14 Largely and in every instance, we are all human, we all fall short. I don't know if I have ever seen a regrettable moment from him. That's what Mike Tomlin, your coach for nine seasons said about you upon your retirement. Now, when I asked a few people, all of whom you know about what they wanted to hear from Heath Miller. They all said,
Starting point is 00:08:33 we want to know more about Swords Creek. We want to know more about Honaker High School. So paint us a picture of the area in which you grew up and how it helped shape you. Well, I grew up in a town called Swords Creek, like you said. It's about 10 minutes from the bigger town of Honaker. So, I mean, I grew up as a kid, I didn't have a lot of interest besides playing sports. That's all I did. Oddly enough, the cable package that we had, had, I think it was WGN, which was the Chicago station.
Starting point is 00:09:10 So we had every Chicago Bulls game, every Cubs game and White Sox game. So, I mean, as a young kid, I lived to watch Michael Jordan play and go out in the backyard and shoot hoops. But as far as the town itself, you know, there's, as you would imagine, there's not a lot going on. So, you know, sports was kind of it there. And that certainly was great for me. We'll go chronologically and get into your Steelers career a little later.
Starting point is 00:09:37 But are there any parallels to Swords Creek and Pittsburgh? I have to imagine hard-nose, hard-working sort of places. 100%. You know, in my part of Virginia, when I was growing up, it was big coal country. So a lot of people, my family did not, but a lot of people in the area, they worked in the coal mines. That's how they made their living. And so it's very blue collar. You know, you're known for your reputation.
Starting point is 00:10:07 Everyone knows everybody. So, you know, your reputation means a lot in those small towns. And so when I went to Pittsburgh, it was honestly the perfect fit because Pittsburgh, I've always called it a small town with kind of the big city amenities. And the whole city rallies around their sports teams. They value guys who come to work and work hard. You know, it's obviously still mill town. And, you know, so those values are part of Pittsburgh's core. And so for me, it was, I couldn't think of a better place for me to play football.
Starting point is 00:10:41 It bears mentioning that you will be the head football coach at a local high school this coming year. Before we get there, what do you remember about your years at Honaker? What got through to you as a high schooler? Well, I think just looking back growing up and, you know, the impressionable, you know, you're playing high school sports at such an impressionable age and you spend so much time around your coaches. And I think, you know, I think back to my baseball coach, my football coach, basketball coaches. And I learned so many lessons and values of hard work and just, you know, they were reinforcing
Starting point is 00:11:19 things that I saw from my parents and just the community itself. And, you know, little did you know at the time those are traits that you carry on with you for the rest of your life. And so I think it's pretty cool. And now being a high school coach and kind of understanding maybe, I don't want to call it weight, but, you know, the impact that you can have on a young man at this point in his life, it's pretty cool. And, you know, I've been able to learn a lot throughout my career and be around a lot of great coaches and great players. So if I can impart some of the wisdom that I've gained along the way onto those kids that can help them throughout the rest of their life, I think it'll be awesome. Yeah, no doubt. And you went to Virginia as a quarterback. Did you have every intention of sticking at that position when you came to Charlottesville?
Starting point is 00:12:07 Well, you know, throughout my recruitment, other schools have breached the idea of changing positions. So I knew it was on the radar. I was a big kid. I was probably about 2.30 when I came to UVA. So, you know, I was, I knew I could potentially play another position. I liked every aspect of football. You know, I wasn't a quarterback who didn't like to get grimy and dirty. I loved playing defense on my high school team and making tackles. So it was always on the radar. Virginia did say, hey, we like you as a quarterback. And that's one of the reasons that I did come to Virginia because I'm like, you know what,
Starting point is 00:12:41 let's give it a chance. Let's see if I can make it. I did it, but I realized pretty on like, ooh, this is a hard position. There may be an easier way to get on the field, so. Matt Chauves probably in the room. Marcus Higgins comes in with you. I mean, there was a little bit of competition. How did UVA pluck you out of Southwest Virginia?
Starting point is 00:13:04 I know there's another school pretty close to where you're from. Yeah, well, they were probably my top two choices, Virginia Tech. I didn't have a ton of options. To be clear, but, you know, Virginia Tech and Virginia were the two schools I was choosing from. Virginia Tech, I just went to the national championship the year before with Mike Vic. So they, their class was full that year. They offered me a scholarship, but they were hoping that I could either wait. And if someone didn't qualify, they would have room for me or come in January of the following year.
Starting point is 00:13:38 And, you know, that kind of sealed the deal for me. And I was like, you know what? I like both schools. I really like Virginia, too. So let's give it a shot. So, but going back, yeah, that quarterback room, Matt Schaub and Bryson Spinner, we're kind of competing for the starting job my first year on campus. And then another quarterback, Marcus Higgins, who's a close friend of mine, came, came in. We were together. And I saw him throw the ball a couple of times. And I'm like, I can't do that. And then I saw him run. I'm like, I can't move like him. So I would have been holding a clipboard for probably my whole career when I was here. So I didn't want to come from
Starting point is 00:14:14 Source Creek, Virginia, and everybody's watching for me on TV and they never see me. So I knew if I changed positions, maybe I could be on special teams or at least get on TV. So why tight end? Were you the most important person in making that decision? Were there any coaches who pointed you toward tied end because it worked out pretty well? Mackey Award, All-American, ACCC, I think, and catches, yards and touchdowns by a tight end when you left. It sure did work out. Who's the one who pointed you in that direction? Well, I think, looking back, it's like the stars really aligned for me, and things just fell
Starting point is 00:14:55 into place. When I first came to Virginia, there was a graduate assistant coach who also just came to Virginia named Andy Heck, who, by the way, had just retired from playing double-digit years in the NFL, wanted to get into coaching. So somehow he landed at Virginia. So he was the tight ends coach. He ran the scout team. He and I formed a quick bond.
Starting point is 00:15:17 And he would tell me, you know, on the scout team in college, there were like six quarterbacks over there. And when you're the youngest, you're the lowest on the totem pole. So I'm not getting any reps on the scout team, any reps at all. But there's like only one or two tight ends. So then I started, coach said, hey, jump in at tight end, you know. And, you know, he kept pushing me to pursue it. and he spent extra time with me every week during my red shirt season to kind of teach me,
Starting point is 00:15:44 you know, the proper way to block, block, you know, everything I needed to know to make the transition. And so even to this day, he's a mentor of mine and, you know, a great, a great person that I would say give the most credit for for pushing me along the way. And obviously, Coach Grove gave me the option to play tight in, suggested I play tight in, you know, said, I really think you could have a long career here. And, you know, I just gave my full trust of those guys and jumped in headfirst and it worked out really well. Yeah, then you said to him it's not going to be that full coach. I'm going to play three years and then leave early and be a first round draft pick
Starting point is 00:16:17 when you move me to this position. How'd your time at quarterback help you play tight end? Because obviously you go to the league, play with a guy like Ben, who's a freelance artist, and you really just need to get open, get into his vision and he'll find you, it seems. Yeah, I think playing quarterback and I also just think just playing sports as a kid in the backyard in recess at school. I think you just have a feel for how to get open, when to get open, and, you know, I don't
Starting point is 00:16:51 know, just how to compete and play. Sometimes I think youth of today, everything's so structured and they have a hard time of thinking outside the box and being a little bit creative when it comes to doing certain things. And so I think that that helped me. and obviously having respect and appreciation for the quarterback position and how difficult it is. Because I had played it, I got a brief understanding of how difficult this is going to be in college. You know, I always had a ton of respect for what those guys have to process and what comes along with playing that position.
Starting point is 00:17:24 And then moving to Pittsburgh, like you said, Ben did his best work on the fly almost, most of the time. And he and I were always, most of the time, you know, I could probably count maybe, a handful of times that maybe we weren't on the same page, but we kind of saw the game in the same way, and we just kind of had that synergy together that worked really well. You broke into the league in 2005. It's crazy you've almost been out of the league, as long as you were in it here at this point.
Starting point is 00:17:52 You go to a Super Bowl, your first year, and win it. You go to three Super Bowls in your first six years. Who were some of the older guys on that Pittsburgh team, some of the old heads who taught you how to be a professional football player, a successful professional football player. I think I was just so grateful and lucky to come to the Steelers. I remember the first time walking down the hall. Oftentimes they would put pictures from the previous year.
Starting point is 00:18:21 During the game week, it would be from the previous game, but this was the off-season. So previous year, and I saw a picture from the Pro Bowl, and there were like 10 guys in the picture, and I'm like, holy cow. I think three offensive linemen were in the picture, and then Jerome Bettis was in the picture. Heinz Ward was in the picture and obviously all the great players from the defensive side. So I didn't have to look very far to find, you know, as they call it, professionals,
Starting point is 00:18:44 guys who do things the right way and who've had long careers and who handle their business and take care of their body and eat right. You know, everywhere I looked, I could find someone to follow. So I just tried to follow guys lead, you know, guys like Alan Fanica, who's a Hall of Fame player, the way Jerome Bettis could interact with his teammates and make everyone feel welcome. and lead the team in that way. And Heinz Ward, the way he played, he kind of took me under his wing and taught me the nuances of the offense.
Starting point is 00:19:13 And, I mean, I could go on and on. The tight ends, Jeremy Tooman. And even just defensively and off the field, I learned so much about how to be a good husband and a good father to my kids and a good, just a good person off the field and be helpful in the community. So I don't know. I'm biased, you know.
Starting point is 00:19:32 I think that's a huge reason why we were such a good team for that span of years is because of the quality of people that were in the locker room. The second Super Bowl win over Arizona, you have two of the most iconic plays in football history. Take me through your vantage points of the James Harrison pick. Clearly, you're on the sideline. But it looks like he should have been tackled about five times. There's a flag that's thrown, times running out in the first half. Take me through that play. And then, of course, the game winner with Santonio when you're on the field. Yeah, well, I think with James' play, you know, and the defensive guys can probably be a little more clear on this.
Starting point is 00:20:09 But I do recall throughout the week leading up to the game, Coach Tomlin pointed out some interceptions in practice. And, you know, it's week, whatever, 20 some or whatever. It's February. Guys are tired. But, you know, guys are kind of just jogging the ball back down the field. And, you know, he made a point, hey, let's finish this play. And sure enough, you know, prophetically, you know, it was, you know, great on his story. part because it turns out in the game that's one of the most iconic plays and you can just see the
Starting point is 00:20:39 effort and to me that symbolizes what that team was and some things I was talking about earlier is how much the guys really cared for each other and worked for each other and they didn't care who got the credit you know it was about what the end result was for the team and you know you see guys laying themselves out on the line some guys making two or three blocks and it's just a perfect symbol of what made that team special. And then for Ben's play, it was amazing. I mean, one of the greatest throws and catches. People always talk about the catch, which was amazing by San Antonio. But if you look at the throw and what he had to navigate to throw that ball over and into San Antonio's arms, it was the perfect pass at the perfect time. I was on the other side of the
Starting point is 00:21:25 field coming across. And I don't know, I think it was too good for me to believe because I'm like, there's no way. There's no way. Everyone was selling it. I'm like, guys, stay calm. We might have to score again, you know, if this is incomplete. But yeah, it was an amazing play. And I'm fortunate to have been on the field for both of those. Yeah, I love how you call it Ben's play, first of all. And that was a second down. And about 30 seconds left in the game. And it should surprise no one that everyone is dogpiling Santonio. And you're seen in the replay nonchalantly walking over to him, probably saying good catch or something of that sort or let's make sure you actually did.
Starting point is 00:22:06 Yeah. This, at what point do you realize, and you might say right away, dummy, at what point do you realize that the fans are saying heath every time you catch the ball? Not right away. Not right away. I remember the first preseason game. It was kind of, you know, it wasn't as loud as it became, but people started yelling. And it was like a low, mumbly roar through the stadium when I caught the ball.
Starting point is 00:22:33 And I remember like, oh, geez, did they want maybe someone that they were happy with the tick? Someone else elected that in the first round that year. But then I quickly realized, you know, they were saying my name. And, you know, I think just being an introvert, I might have been a little bit embarrassed by it at the beginning, you know, because you're a young guy and you don't like a lot of attention drawn to yourself. But I think throughout my career, especially toward the end, I kind of realized, what a special bond that, you know, not only the team has, but, you know, I felt like I had with the fans and how much they appreciated what I brought to the team and the way I went about my business. And it was really cool, very cool. Yeah, cool for us, too, as Virginia guys who take pride and watching our own do well. I mean, that's the coolest thing in the world to hear 70,000 people screaming your name. And I think now they've transitioned to,
Starting point is 00:23:29 mooth but even when the guys after you a tight-in would catch a ball they would still say heat yeah that's one of the coolest things ever as well those guys well it was cool for me those guys probably hated it you know uh talk a little bit more about your relationship with with ben what made that connection so special i mean is it as simple as you came in at virtually the same time and it's quarterback and tight end or or is there more to it than that I think there's, I think that's a big part of it. And then, you know, we were, we were kind of, as I alluded to earlier, Ben was drafted the year before me. I was the year after him. So we were kind of the young guys on that offensive, on that offensive team. There were a lot of old veteran guys. So that ultimately, you know, brought us together. We were roommates in training camp for a few years. So, you know, we spent a lot of time together. We had a lot in common. Our families just in general had a lot in common. And so, So just based on those things, we were, you know, we were kind of close from the beginning. And, you know, obviously when you play with a guy for 11 years and he's your quarterback the entire time,
Starting point is 00:24:40 that bond just grows and gets better throughout time. And, you know, I feel very fortunate. Not a lot of guys can say a receiver or tight in. If you could go to a team and say, you'll play with a Hall of Fame quarterback for 11 years, you're like, yes, sign me up 100 times out of 100. So, you know, I don't lose sight of how lucky I was to have been a part of his career. You played in a great division. AFC North is known for its rivalries and being one of the best divisions in football across the years.
Starting point is 00:25:12 Not necessarily limiting you to a division rival, but who was the toughest guy you had to go against? Whether that's the toughest guy you had to block or otherwise. did you maybe not look forward or did you look forward to going against one of those guys in the week leading up? Well, I think the obvious answer is the Ravens. I think, you know, that rivalry probably was at the peak midway through my career when they had amazing teams. Their defense was always at the top of the league. Our defense was always at the top of the league. We saw, we played and approached the game kind of the same way with physical nature.
Starting point is 00:25:51 And so those games were fun, but also you didn't look forward to the league. them either as an offensive guy. So, you know, I think I mentioned earlier, Terrell Suggs was probably got a guy that was really tough for me anyways because he was so big, strong, fast, but he also played the game. He was so smart also above the head. He didn't play the game in an orthodox way. So, you know, he could jump gaps and still make the play and do things out of the box and out of the norm that you couldn't expect or count on him to do every, every snap. So that automatically put you in a defensive position as a blocker trying to block him. Yeah, so he gave me some problems.
Starting point is 00:26:32 But fortunately, I had been to dodge him back there when he did get by me a few times. Yeah, for the Steelers fans out there, you played for Coach Cowher for two years and then Coach Tomlin the rest of your time. How are those two guys different and how are they the same? Well, I think they were the same and they were both passionate guys. You know, they love the game of football, but they're also great communicators and also great leaders in the fact that they could always hold the attention of the room. And that's a hard thing to do when you're a head football coach and you're sitting in a room of 50, 60 grown adult men. You know, how does your message not get stale? How can you motivate these guys who've made millions of dollars on a weekly basis?
Starting point is 00:27:18 How can you call them out without offending them, you know, in some cases? So both of those guys were great at doing that. And I think differences, the only differences I could say was with Coach Cowra, I caught him later in his career. So he had established himself as the head coach. He had a veteran group of guys. He kind of knew what he had with the team. And he knew who kind of his guys were and who his leaders were.
Starting point is 00:27:45 So, you know, when Coach Tomlin started out, he was the youngest head coach in the league. I think maybe the youngest head coach ever at that time. So he kind of came in with a little more force because he had to kind of see who his guys were, you know, see who was going to rise up when things got hard. And then ultimately toward the end of the career, it was much the same as Coach Cowher. He knew who he knew who his dogs were, kind of, so to speak, and who he could count on. And so, you know, they were very much the same. And I think that's why they had both will be in the Hall of Fame eventually whenever Coach Tomlin hangs it up,
Starting point is 00:28:20 he'll be a Hall of Fame coach just like Coach Cowher. So I mean, how lucky was I to play for those two guys? Yeah, all right. So back to the Mike T. quote. He calls you no maintenance. And he said he's never seen a regrettable moment from you. Is that true? Was there anything we didn't see?
Starting point is 00:28:37 Have you ever raised your voice? Yeah, there were a lot of things he probably didn't see. So it wasn't paying attention close enough. But no, it was quite the compliment that he gave me. And he and I, you know, I always took a lot of pride and just do my job. And, you know, as I mentioned earlier, the amount of respect I had for the quarterback and the things that they have to manipulate through, a head coach has a lot of things on his mind. And I always thought, you know, Coach Tom doesn't want to be dealing with a tight end when he's got
Starting point is 00:29:08 receivers and running backs and, you know, other guys on his plate that he has to deal with or disciplinary issues. He doesn't want to deal with a tight end complaining to him about something that's going on. I don't know. It's very minuscule in his world. So I just tried to to show up every day to work, give my best, earn my keep. You know, I just, every time I walked into the locker room, you know, I felt like I had to earn my place on the team. And that's what I tried to do every day and, you know, just do my job. So I think another coach says that a lot, but that was truly my approach.
Starting point is 00:29:40 Do you see tight ends today who are purely past catchers and roll your eyes because you took so much pride in being a blocker? You know, I won't say I roll my eyes, but I appreciate and have a lot of admiration for the guys who do both. I'll say that, you know. But I can also appreciate the receivers and the skill set that they have, too. You know, obviously their numbers are going to be inflated. Yeah, that's when I'll say, hey, you know, you're a receiver if you do it when the numbers are inflated in comparison to other tight ends. But I have a lot of great, you know, a lot of respect for,
Starting point is 00:30:18 for the guys who do do it both. And I think, you know, offensively speaking, I think those tight ends who can block and pass are super valuable to an offense. And, you know, those are the guys that I tend to gravitate to. Yeah. Is there anybody in the league today that you think is doing that or maybe is not? Which tight end in the league right now do you like the most? Well, my favorite is probably George Kettle, for sure. And I don't, I don't, admittedly, I don't watch the NFL felt close enough to give you a list. I'm sure there are many other guys who do a good job of it. But, you know, I just, I enjoy the passion that he plays the game with,
Starting point is 00:30:56 whether he's blocking or catching, you know, I think it's contagious. And I think that team, the 49ers, feeds off of it. And I think there's no surprise why there's such a good offense running the ball and throwing the ball. It's because, you know, they're tight ends of threat in both, in both of those parts of the game. And, you know, he's a guy that's always. fun for me to watch. Did you emulate a tight end coming up because you didn't have much time? If it's your
Starting point is 00:31:25 redshirt freshman year at UVA, you may not be watching that position as much. You didn't have a whole lot of time to transition to it. Was there somebody when you were at Virginia who you saw a plan? You're like, okay, I can do that. Well, you know, Coach Heck, I focused a ton on the blocking part in college because obviously that was new to me. That's what I had to get better at. My tight ends coach was an offensive lineman. Coachek is he's the offensive line coach for the chiefs now. So, you know, by nature, that's what he was good at, which was perfect because that's what I needed.
Starting point is 00:31:59 So we watched a lot of a guy named Daniel Graham. He played at the University of Colorado. It was drafted by the Patriots. He was just so sound in his footwork and hand placement in the running game. So in college, I watched a ton of his film. And then moving on to the league, I watched, you know, a ton of my peers. I always had a lot of respect for, Jason Witten and how he played the game in Dallas.
Starting point is 00:32:21 But then in the passing game, there's so many good Antonio Gates. I watched his film a ton, Tony Gonzalez, I watched his film a ton. And then as Gromk came into the league, kind of the back half in my career, I had a ton of respect for the way he played the game. I'm sure I'm leaving people out. Those are some good names. Yeah, there's a lot of good guys to choose from. That last guy's a little different, too.
Starting point is 00:32:45 in a lot of good ways. All right. So now it's high school head coach Heath Miller. How many times did they have to ask you to do it before you said yes? Well, they asked me, and I spent probably two or three weeks contemplating. You know, I talked with our friend Chris a little bit. Yeah. He was an alumni of here.
Starting point is 00:33:12 And he was a great sounding board. for me to just bounce things off of like, hey, how will this look? How will this work? He connected me with some amazing people who have been, I mean, it wouldn't be happening without the people Chris connected me with. Because quite honestly, I couldn't have done this by myself.
Starting point is 00:33:33 So, and I knew that early on. So just having guys like him in my corner. And then just the football community in Charlottesville in general, there's so many guys who either played at UVA, went on to play in the NFL, And they're back in town. And no matter what you say, if football is in your blood, it's kind of part of the fabric of who you are.
Starting point is 00:33:54 And, you know, I think all these guys are kind of looking to scratch that itch a little bit. And we had a camp a couple weeks ago where a lot of guys came out. And I don't know, you could just see the smiles on their faces, guys who haven't been around football for a while, but, you know, maybe played five, six, seven, ten years ago. And we had a great time just teaching the younger guys in our community. And just imparting, you know, what we learned and what was effective for us. And seeing the passion and the hunger of the younger kids, it's pretty exciting.
Starting point is 00:34:23 So that's the part that really excites me about the job is connecting with the younger guys. Yeah, you're at a school that it's an independent school. It's enjoyed some success in the past in football, notably when Chris was playing. And then on the flip side, it's dropped down to eight men in recent years. and now numbers are back up. All right, so what kind of advice did you get once you took the job? So after I took the job, I bumped into Kyle and Chris's dad,
Starting point is 00:34:54 I think it was at Chris's event. And, you know, how he just said, hey, here's all you got to do. You just got to find a guy like Kyle, okay? Just put him out in front of the ball, throwing the ball in the flat. And I'm like, okay, where am I going to find a guy like Kyle? Because those aren't walking around everywhere around Charlottesville.
Starting point is 00:35:13 Yeah. That was that was that was a that was howie simple advice for me to be successful here at St. Lance. I think Kyle played every single position along both lines and then eventually said all right now I want the rock now I want to play running back. Yeah that's what I understand. Yeah they said they threw he. I've heard stories of him dragging like pretty much the whole defense down the field for a touchdown. So yeah maybe I'll find another Kyle along somewhere or I might have to wait about 15 or 16 years maybe. That's right. what's going to be your coaching philosophy? What are you going to take from the coaches in your past? What's your vision for now your program?
Starting point is 00:35:56 Well, if you say my program, I think if any of my previous coaches, and that goes back to Al Groh or Coach Tomlin or Coach Cowher, probably hears me address the team, they're probably like, hey, I said that. I don't know if I could claim any of the messages of my own, But I will be sharing, you know, I'll share all the things that that kind of stuck with me throughout my career. And I felt like helped me develop as a person on the field and off the field. You know, the great thing about football and being a parent, I have four kids, three boys and a girl.
Starting point is 00:36:29 When I first retired, I was like, I don't know if I want my kids to play football. I mean, this is tough. This is, you know, this is tough. But becoming a parent and seeing my kids get older, I kind of realized and came to the conclusion that I think my kids need football. And they need it, you know, to learn about themselves, to learn how to deal with adversity, to push themselves, to get out of their comfort zone. And kind of, you know, to me, football taught me more about myself than probably anything else I did in life.
Starting point is 00:37:01 And, you know, that's something that I carry with me on a daily basis. And, you know, that's what I'm excited to kind of push these kids here out of their comfort zone a little bit so that they learn about themselves, do hard things together. That's an awesome thing. The friendships and relationships that you form through the game of football with all different types of people. I mean, I'm a guy from Swartz Creek, Virginia. My first roommate was Marcus Hagen's from Hampton, Virginia. I mean, couldn't have been any two literally different parts of the state. We're great friends to this day and we'll be best, you know, we'll be great friends for the rest of our life. And that happened because of the game of football. And that's what's so beautiful about it to me.
Starting point is 00:37:43 And, you know, that's why I'm excited to see it happen for these younger kids. Now, if you have a ton of fun and enjoy some success, is this a future career path? Are we going to potentially take this to the collegiate or professional level? Well, not anytime soon. Not anytime soon. Like I said, I have four kids and, you know, they're still my main priority. And, you know, the reason I could justify doing and this is because my older son was going to be a part of the team. So I was going to be helping coach in some format. I didn't realize, you know, six months ago I never dreamed it would be like this. But, you know, here we are once Coach Sando decided to take another job.
Starting point is 00:38:24 So I'm excited about it. So we'll see what happens in the future. What position are positions for your oldest son? Well, I'm not sure. He's young. He's going to be ninth grade. So he'll probably start out as a receiver in defensive. the back this year, but I don't know how big he's going to eventually be. So, you know, we'll see.
Starting point is 00:38:45 It's a tough thing about the school now is our team is 9 through 12. So we don't have a JV team right now. You know, maybe in a couple of years we can get the numbers up. So kids like my old, you know, rising ninth graders will have more of a chance to play and contribute in a safe way on the field. But so we'll see how it goes. Well, that's awesome, man. We're wishing you a ton of success. and so proud to have watched you both at UVA and in Pittsburgh and have had all that success. And be as Coach Tomlin and as many others have said, really a model human being.
Starting point is 00:39:24 So glad to have you back in Seaville. And thanks for all your time today, man. Hey, thanks, Macon. Take care. Hey, y'all. Green Light has official merch, like this hat right here, like the one on my head, this dad hat. Love this hat. I'm not even a dad hat guy, but this thing fits great. This this hat right here fits great. We've got hoodies. We've got tea. By the way, this hoodie's like super comfy. I mean, it's like soft,
Starting point is 00:39:56 plush. It's not the type of hoodie that's going to get stiff with one wash. And the shirts too, because I'm a big comfort guy. Okay, you got like this white shirt here. You got the shirt with the logo, the Abbey Road looking logo, with Dr. Friott. Smoking, presumably a blunt, Kyle carrying Cowboy Reed, making driveling a basketball, which I've never seen him actually do, and me carrying a football. And then you've got the black shirt here too with the logo. So stickers, hit the link in the description in the video, below the video, actually,
Starting point is 00:40:30 and make sure to tag us on social media showing off your green light merch. It's quality, quality threads here, okay? Wouldn't do it any other way. Freak Show Friday Wait, it's Friday Oh, it's coming on Friday You got that straight I uh
Starting point is 00:40:49 So I did get a really nice birthday hall I was just about to say Happy belated birthday Thank you Thank you facts We're closing in on 40 soon Yeah I'm 38 I'm 38
Starting point is 00:41:03 It feels pretty good I got to spend my 38th birthday With Cowboy Reed Nice We went out and play some golf. It was great. It was delightful. And Cowboy, bless his heart, told me that I was hitting a draw club with my driver. And he handed me his driver straight down the middle and far every single time. We get to the, he had texting me, I don't know, two or three weeks ago and making was like,
Starting point is 00:41:33 all my drives go like 150 yards dead left. Like they just go right, just right off the line. And I was like, oh, well, maybe it's this, maybe he's that. Maybe he's that. Maybe he's, and then I show up to the range and I look at his club and it says draw on it, which means your ball flight is automatically going to go to the left. So you were actually hitting it right. Yeah, right. He was hitting it great. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:52 The club was just, and I was like, this is one of the rare instances when you can blame your equipment in golf. Yeah. Yeah. So that's what we did. We blame the equipment. And then, facts, I wear A shirts every day underneath my polos here, you know. And Cowboy Reed breaks out two, three packs of A shirts for me after the round as a birthday
Starting point is 00:42:10 gift. That's the kind of guy he is, you know? Nice. Not surprised. And then my dad comes through with two more three packs of A shirts later in the day. So you're an A shirt guy. Yeah, I'm an A shirt guy every day. Every day.
Starting point is 00:42:22 You should look into the G and the A shirts. Cowboy got me some, what is it, true religion? Yeah, they're just whatever in partial. I'm no longer solely Brooks brothers, man. True religion and new balance A shirts. That's two different spectrum. right there. Yeah. No kidding. Ready for the summer. Ready for white boy summer.
Starting point is 00:42:45 Now, we're sitting there. We're sitting there. And my dad's all upset because he couldn't, you know, bring me a thousand things for my birthday because I didn't tell him what I wanted because I'm not eight years old anymore. I'm 38 years old. And my wife says, well,
Starting point is 00:43:02 you know, he needs some underwear because all my underwear's ripped. I wear these boxer shorts. You know what I mean? And I don't know that as a 38-year-old I've ever purchased my own underwear. I don't know. Dad came through every seven years or so with some boxers. That's concerning.
Starting point is 00:43:23 Yeah, it's not great. But my question to you is, what kind of underwear do you wear? Wait, are you wearing boxers for seven years? Oh, yeah. Well, probably more. Fated, writ holes. Yeah, maybe not so much faded because they're usually covered, but ripped in holes and yeah
Starting point is 00:43:42 yeah but your dad has you underwear relax but yeah okay and I don't know how comfortable I am you asking me about what underwear I'm wearing yeah
Starting point is 00:43:54 I don't know I feel like ideally I'd like to be a boxer brief I wear boxer brief okay what brand come on dude I minor ex officio and um stio oh s tio okay they're kind of expensive but they're comfy of shit i'm not gonna lie i'm a huge
Starting point is 00:44:18 sam's club and cosco guy so members mark and kirklin usually the way to go with a lot of stuff okay when it comes to underwear and especially if you're a guy like you oh seven years not Yeah. You can go there and stock up and maybe change that, scale that down to maybe like yeah. At least once a year. If you're not, if you're not, bro, ask for, I mean, that's an easy gift. You're a person that you don't want to ask for gifts.
Starting point is 00:44:49 Be like, you know what? I need some new boxes. Yeah. And make a new rule. Like once there's a hole in it, you throw it away. Yeah. Like right now, for instance, I'm basically just wearing a waistband. I got a buddy Joey Lombardo back home.
Starting point is 00:45:07 He only wears a pair of socks once and then throws it out. Damn, why you put that one? That's an alpha. You put his whole name out there? Joey don't care. Listen. There's a lot of Joey Lombardo's in Chicago, you should know that. I got a pro.
Starting point is 00:45:25 I wear boxer briefs. I got an issue, though, lately, for some. some reason they put a crease in the middle. Why would you put a crease right down the middle? What? On the boxers. Yeah. There's a crease right down the middle. It's not like how it used to be. It's weird. What brand? The Puma from, uh, from Costco. And then you got, but I, I'm a banana republic guy. Can you show us? You know fast? I don't know the case. Yeah. I thought you right now. Jesus Christ. There's a freaking thing. Look at it. Why would you put a crease right down where you're
Starting point is 00:46:02 No, sometimes some of those be like the imperfect ones like The stuff that's not going into the main stores I don't know why you put a crease right where your junk would be Apologies to heath if he listened to his interview And has continued continued listening But it was a lovely birthday. Thank you. I want to say just so everyone knows making I wouldn't put him on sandbagger level of golf
Starting point is 00:46:27 but he's a much better golfer than what he leads on. Oh, thank you. Thank you, cowboy. Yeah. Occasionally it goes far. He just ran out. What if he's trying to make a buck on the course? You're right.
Starting point is 00:46:37 That's on me. Trying to hustle people. Well, I will say this. Playing with the cowboy is vibe, as the cowboy would say. I mean, just everything's good. Every shot is good even when it's bad. Great shot. Rick Carlisle, you could learn a thing or two, okay?
Starting point is 00:46:55 You know, I shank a ball and Rick Carlisle just stares at me. Cowboys like, you'll be fine. Hit another. Yeah. All right. So that was cool. Hard knocks. Who's watching Hard knocks?
Starting point is 00:47:11 New York Giants. Everybody. Okay. Everybody. It's amazing. Unbelievable. Yeah. It's the conversation, there's a lot to talk about.
Starting point is 00:47:22 I'll mention the conversation Joe Shane had with Sequin. Joe Shane calls Sequin's agent and is like, hey, he wants to be a giant awesome. We'll figure out what the market is for him and then we'll sign them. Cool. He calls Sequan and that's one of the funniest conversations. Sequine answers, hello. And Joe goes, Sequin. Yeah, what's up?
Starting point is 00:47:45 You doing all right? Just chilling with the fam. You in Jersey? Yeah. What have you been up to? Like, it's the most say what you want to say, my man. and then we're getting off the phone as soon as possible. And then the quarterbacks, Dable and the quarterbacks,
Starting point is 00:48:00 what stood out to you people? Dable thinking he can run a seven second for you. I wanted to see where people are at with that. Yeah. We kept talking about it. I'm like, why don't it just do it, dude? You've been talking about it for half the time. If he tried to do that right now, like someone like him,
Starting point is 00:48:20 I guarantee you he would pop his hamstring. No doubt. He would pop his hamstring. ham train because guys like they don't realize like when you're training and you're trying to do that 40 yard dash if you're not training your body for that like you're going to pull something when chris and i did it a few years ago i was 6-1 without any you know maybe a stretch or two but i really have never learned how to run and i i didn't really you know try to learn how to run but it's 6-1 you're a lot skinnier than i'm lighter than he is yeah but he's he's potentially more athletic i was really
Starting point is 00:48:54 trying to think could he run sub seven i think he's probably right around there don't you think he he might be i think he like seven is high but at the same token is just like they're like think about the old linemen who trained for it they be in the high fives like sometimes and it's just like i don't know if how many coaches are like beating like are beating even like their slowest old lineman in like a like a straightaway sprint that's that's how i mentally think about it because you just think about guys that are, are you a second or so slower? And I'm just like, I don't know. The funniest part was the guy behind him who said,
Starting point is 00:49:34 no, you can't run some seven. I saw you run across the street two nights ago. That guy was great because he's looking around. He's like, did I make a funny? Yeah. Was that funny? Is that what happened? You could see it a split second before he says it.
Starting point is 00:49:46 He's like, I got it. Yeah. But he was so confident with like, oh, that that was funny. Okay, good. Yeah. Hard knocks. Hard knocks is. goal though because just as a as a fan just being able to get like a little bit more in depth of
Starting point is 00:50:01 what's going on and just like I think it's actually crazy that they allow the cameras to be in the meaning and I can see why teams and organizations hate the fuck out of this when it ends up being your team and now they're doing it so that they're doing in season teams so it's like every organization is getting stuck with this and I think it's more of the fact of people not realizing how it goes when guys get traded or guys are on the chopping block or how nonchalant like shit is because it's really a business like when it comes down to it and when you see that and you get a glimpse of that it's because I watch this with my girl and she's just like wait wait she was like that it's just she's like they're just moving on is just quick like that I'm like yeah like they're just moving on it's just quick like that I'm like yeah like they're just you're just you're just you're just like they're just you're just like they're just said like if they have to think about it like when sayquan leaves they have a pool of 600 guys they have to figure out how they're going to fill that void and she was like so it's just just like that and i'm just like yeah it's just like that just that's how it goes it's a it's a business and it's uh what have you done for me lately league and car knocks kind of really shows that
Starting point is 00:51:16 when it gets in depth and it's awesome because it's the off season version of it so it's things that we've literally never seen before like to answer your question makes about the quarterbacks what stood out was like brian dable harassing jaden daniels basically like trying to confuse him giving him like would confuse the shit out of me like i know i get that board works important but like he hasn't learned this offense previously he's just like having him recite a play and then having him tell a story and then quick what's the play like he came off as kind of an asshole but did the same thing with Drake May. And, and with Caleb, and Caleb was in there, and he was in there doing his thing. And it's one of those, it, it sucks to see that. And just like as a fan, like you're saying,
Starting point is 00:52:01 it's like guys look at it as, oh, he's picking on him. But no, it's a job interview. It's a very job interview. I mean, it's a job interview for one of the highest high pressure jobs you can probably get, like when you think about it in sports terms and being a pro. And that's, the kind of mentality as a coach and organization, you kind of want your guys to be able to think through quickly and see how they're going to act. And I think that kind of shows, too. And it doesn't mean that Jaden Daniels isn't good. It's just something that maybe he was nervous. Maybe he does, like, he doesn't handle that well, but that's something he'll work on and he'll get better. But it's going to be interesting to see, too. And I wonder how those guys feel
Starting point is 00:52:44 kind of like rehashing that because you go through so many of those meetings. A lot of those guys probably like, I forgot about this meeting. Like I did 20 of these where now you see it and you kind of see everyone nitpicking that stuff. I wonder how they do. Well, imagine somebody recording your job interview for a job you didn't get and then everybody's watching it and talking about it.
Starting point is 00:53:04 The other thing I thought was interesting was the GM and the coach seemed to have different ideas at wide receiver. It looked like the GM was really into a duncee. And Daibel kept on saying, I love this neighbor's kid. I love this neighbor's kid. And that's, of course, who they took.
Starting point is 00:53:21 So maybe that said something about who's running things there. And then the other thing that was crazy is, like, the GM was talking with the director of communications who had email to try and get guests on the show. And they were, like, running through the press conference. You saw him coaching and rehearsing him, like, what exactly to say to all these questions? I didn't realize that they did all that.
Starting point is 00:53:44 Oh, yeah. I thought, you know, another interesting thing was how the trades start. Like, it's just a quick, like, hey, where are you at with this guy? You know, at the East and West East West game and how that morphs into an actual transaction. Well, it's, I wonder what Daniel Jones, because he saw that. And then he sees the, the Patriots, like, they were that close to a trade, right? And they would have gone up to get May, probably at three or a quarterback. How does he feel like seeing that and knowing that, you know, all these conversations that with Dable and Shane are like, you know, you're the guy, you're the guy that you're the guy, but then behind closed doors it's cutthroat and they're trying to get this guy his replacement. Yeah, with neighbors, one of the comments was he's a, he's a live wire. And when he's unhappy, he's going to let you know about it. So the, the relationship with the quarterback has to be really good. And then I, it's, uh, it's, I think it's, I think it's dable who says, yeah, DJ says he,
Starting point is 00:54:46 he really likes him. And that was that. Completely ignoring the fact that we're trying to shop the quarterback at every turn and move up and get somebody else and taking neighbors out of the equation. But yeah, Malik now seems to be the highest ceiling candidate of these receivers with some divot to them. Romo Dunezay, more like the drive straight down the middle. You know what you're getting.
Starting point is 00:55:16 workman like. Yeah, I'm excited to see. I'm not going to lie. I'm excited for the Bears this year, for sure. I think Hardnack did a good job, but pivot in a little bit because I think it was getting somewhat stale with the in-season thing, or, you know, the camp. But they also said, hey, let's show more of the business side of it because I think that's what people and fans want to see.
Starting point is 00:55:40 And they did a nice job of figuring that out. Joe Shane has a squeaky chair. It's also creaks. Like it's just a bad chair. And then he ends the Seekwon conversation with, so do I have your word? Yeah. And Seekon's like, what? What?
Starting point is 00:55:57 That was weird. Yeah. That's a little awkward. That shit is funny. Hey, we're cool, right? Yeah. Oh, I meant to look back and try to figure out who it was. But there was one guy, he had like impeccable, like, posture.
Starting point is 00:56:09 He was like sitting in the chair in one of the meetings. And he was just sitting. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So straight up. And I was like, how is it? he doing? I think that was the same guy that made a joke about running across the street. Yeah. So funny. We got to get that guy on. Yeah. Follow up for that guy. All right, Coach, you got a history
Starting point is 00:56:28 lesson for us. I do. Back July 12th, 1979, the White Sox did a promo called the Disco Demolition, hosted by Steve Dahl's Shock, Jack, DJ. That's 45 years ago today, coach. Yeah, in Chicago. They decided during a Twilight double header in between games to blow up records of discos. It didn't really turn out too well, Coach. They didn't play the second game. The cops were called in. Fires were throughout the whole. On the field, the field was on fire, yeah.
Starting point is 00:57:04 It was on fire. Many, many of the fans had come to see the explosion rather than the games and rushed onto the field after the detonation. Yes. It didn't, it didn't really turn out that well. It was the highest attended game of the year for the White Sox, though. Wow. If you can look at it like that, they did all right.
Starting point is 00:57:23 They should bring it back. They should, they can find a way now to contain all that. Steve Dahl is still doing his thing, though, too. The, the field was so damaged by the explosion and the rioters. The White Sox were forced forfeit. Yes. The game. Yep.
Starting point is 00:57:36 There's a, there's a cool picture of Sparky Anderson talking to the umps, like, trying to figure it out. It's just like, what do you want us to do with this? What game would you rather have gone to this one or the five cent beer night that ended similarly? Disco night. Yeah, disco demolition. Because the drunk, the drunk thing gets, gets old after a while. Like drunk fans, like a lot of times aren't fun.
Starting point is 00:58:09 And it ends in a lot of fights. And I don't, I kind of, I don't like seeing that. I'm kind of feeling like it's the five cent beer thing on steroids. Like everyone was hammered, obviously, but now you got fires in the middle of the field. So it's like that extra. Oklahoma, speaking of five cent beers,
Starting point is 00:58:31 Oklahoma State running back got pop for DUI, no good. And then Mike Gundy comes out and says, I thought really two or three beers or four, I'm not justifying what he did. I'm telling you what decision I made. Well, I thought I'd probably done that a thousand times in my life. Referring to drinking than driving over the legal limit. He was basically saying, well, it's 0.08's the legal threshold,
Starting point is 00:58:59 and he only blew a 0.1. Like, what are we doing here? And the questioner's like, how is it going to be disciplined? I'm going to let him tote the rock game one, probably a little more than even ordinarily would. Like, that's going to be his punishment. And he said the other punishment is making him come here. Yeah, to the media day.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, Mike, it's just the thing you don't say out loud. You probably don't do it either. But if he's saying some of his justification, I thought, was legitimate. Like, we're now paying these guys a ton of money. He's facing the music. He's going to have to deal with his legal troubles.
Starting point is 00:59:39 But I'm not going to hurt the rest of the team by sitting him down. He's going to handle his business. and we're moving forward with our season and our team otherwise. Yeah, and probably his license is probably suspended. He probably can't drive anyway. So, like, that's the elephant in the room that's not going to happen unless he's in total idiot and he hops in the car. He just doesn't care.
Starting point is 01:00:04 And you're just showing like you don't care. So to me also, it's a, I feel like if you're maybe a recruit as someone who has like a troubled pass, you're just like, oh, he seems like a cool coach. I can go there. Well, the whole interview, the whole everything is perfect because he already looks like a guy at the corner of the bar telling the story. You're like, this is perfect.
Starting point is 01:00:30 But it's just, it's the head coach of Oklahoma State. Yeah, Gundy has since clarified that roughly a thousand times he has made a bad decision in his life. So at this point of the show, we had a couple visitors dropped by Studio J. Makin's children came through. They wanted to say hi to dad at work. We were all enamored with Maken's beautiful family.
Starting point is 01:00:50 We'll pick it up here after the visit from the Gunters. Makin, your children are impossibly cute. Oh, thank you. That was a very lovely scene right there showing your kids themselves in the TV. Very cute. Thank you. Yeah, nice children. My wife had to drop off a blank check for me
Starting point is 01:01:08 so that I could pay a mechanic who may or may not get to my car today. it's seven something in the morning I drop off the keys like ah I don't what and I'm like I don't know
Starting point is 01:01:21 there's a light on the dash it says like major problem he's like I'll see if I can get to it I'm like oh my bad that is what you did here what kind of car is it it's a it's a redacted
Starting point is 01:01:34 Grand Cherokee okay I mean it's a pretty simple you know you get it up on the lift Didn't you have, you, you, I go online and go on Reddit now a lot. Are you fixing your own? Sometimes.
Starting point is 01:01:48 Wow. Like sometimes. I wish I had that skill. It's just, your car was making a little noise when you pulled away the other day. Oh, yeah, like I need, I need, I think I need some, I think I need some, I just need some breaks. I just need some breaks. Breaks? Just need some.
Starting point is 01:02:04 Yeah. All the gas, no breaks. Dr. Fax. He is all gas, no break. So Nate, yesterday, my girlfriend comes home and she's like, I'm so fucking pissed at Nate. Do you know why? Girlfriend Flex, by the way. Why?
Starting point is 01:02:27 Because of a tweet you made about Game of Thrones or about House of the Dragon. Oh, no, you spoil? Nate went back and watched Game of Thrones, and I'm not going to say what happens, but in Game of Thrones, there's like a spoiler about the plot of House of the Dragon. dragon so he tweets that and i think it pissed off some people did one of the fake people do something to another fake person and then a dragon flew in and breathe some fire on others okay yeah all right but people but people online are just it's just like if you watch the show and you pay attention there's clues like in in the show of what's to come or what's about to happen
Starting point is 01:03:09 and I just like watching Game of Thrones over again there's a scene with fucking little Joffrey in it and he says something and it's about House of Dragons and what's going to go on and I sat there and I looked at my girlfriend and our jaws dropped and I was just like I cannot believe that he said this here and now kind of knows some of the plot of
Starting point is 01:03:37 a new show that's out I had seen this online also earlier from somebody else, so I didn't care. But isn't he spoiling the show that ended three years ago? There's a new one that's going on right now. So you were talking about House of Dragon now. So Game of Thrones is like set chronologically after House of the Dragon. Got it.
Starting point is 01:03:58 In Game of Thrones, there's a reading of a history. And that history is actually House of the Dragon and like what happens. But real time humans now, you people have all watched Game of Thrones and now you're watching House of the Dragon. Yeah and the particular part that the particular part that they talk about in Game of Thrones has not happened
Starting point is 01:04:20 yet in House of Dragons and so So unless you're going on Because they already filmed it and no it's going to happen It's going to happen but it's just It hasn't reached the episode or That's not publiced yet I feel like if there is a major
Starting point is 01:04:37 television show show going on, there is a concurrent spoiler alert Twitter world like Succession. If you're on Twitter during Succession, people are going to be talking about the show. You got to know that, right? Yeah, but this is different. This is like if you said during season two of Succession, like how the show will end in season four. And that that knowledge was available from something, but most people didn't have that knowledge. No, everyone did have that knowledge because everyone, Everyone. Everyone watched the Game of Thrones, whether they missed it. I had the, I particularly had the knowledge before because I've watched, I've honestly watched Game of Thrones since COVID from start to finish probably like four times.
Starting point is 01:05:23 And this is the first time sitting and watching that scene that I've seen multiple times, me hearing it and being like, holy smoke. But it's because this new House of Dragons is out. And so now when you hear names that are from House of Dragons in Game of Thrones, you're like, oh, they're talking about this. And you kind of connect stuff. And that was a big, because it's talking about one of, if not like the main character of House of Dragons. And it even though it was a spoiler, it was a spoiler for me.
Starting point is 01:05:59 But it's not really a spoiler. What your gal going to do there, Kingston? Probably just try to forget it and watch the show on. So yesterday, Kauai took himself off Team USA and was replaced by Derek White. Grant Hill says, as of this morning, we told Kauai he was off the team. Kauai did not. The Clippers, right? Take them.
Starting point is 01:06:22 Yeah. So they were in talks with the Clippers, but Team Yosea was like, hey, man, he's not going to play. So Kauai is not playing for health-related reasons. The memes about Kauai, like, people. People are the internet. It means I'm not showing up. Yeah. Were you guys surprised that they replaced them with Derek White
Starting point is 01:06:42 rather than his teammate, Jalen Brown? Yes. Or any other host of guys? Nate, tell your joke. Yeah, they had to put a white guy on the team. DEI, baby. We're back. Had to.
Starting point is 01:07:02 Had to. But I think it's, funny and I love a little all-season drama and a little team indirect fire, I guess, is just like, yeah, I'm kind of throwing shade at my teammate, but at the same token, I was the MVP. Like, who are we kidding here? Like, the fact that I'm not on the roster of the jump is kind of crazy, but at the same token, maybe they think Derek White is a better fit. Yeah, they could use a guard that can defend. Is he an excellent defender?
Starting point is 01:07:38 Darylite is. Yes. Because we have ball handlers. Other than Drew, maybe the board of guards. We have Drew. You want to know a secret? Yeah. I win parlays with him off of his block totals.
Starting point is 01:07:48 Oh, yeah. Big block guy. Like for a guard. Guaranteed one. Yeah. Every night. Put that, put plus 1.5 blocks for, for Darren White on like, on most nights. And it's a, it's a nice bet to have.
Starting point is 01:08:03 Yeah. makes who's your first guy you're putting on if it's if it's not derrick white it probably would have been jalen brown i mean i just i feel like you have enough ball handlers with booker step haliburton anthony edwards drew holiday i don't know if we needed derrick white i'm not sold on haliburton man i don't know yeah there's something a little weird about it yeah like i don't know what it is and i know he was an all-star and before all-star break his campaign to get to the All-Star game, how he was playing, was absolutely wonderful. And I don't know if, like, people were saying, oh, he's hurt or he's this. I don't know. And hopefully it was that he was
Starting point is 01:08:45 hurt and maybe he'll be, like, healthier for this. But he had a huge fall off, I think. And he went from, I feel like hitting four to five threes a game to not doing that anymore. And, and he plays very awkward. And I feel like when you play awkward, like that, you have to be exceptionally good. Like how Sean, what was Sean Marion? Like how he had that shot. Like he was like, even though he had that shot, after you got over it, you're just like, okay,
Starting point is 01:09:16 this dude's a baller. Like he's- Because it went in all the time. Yeah, but also he played defense. He did all this stuff and I'm just like, I don't know yet. But-facts, facts, facts, facts. Regular season, Halliburton, 10.9 assists a game. That's good for number one in the league. 10.9 assists.
Starting point is 01:09:33 That's more than a full assist clear of Luca Dansitch, number two. Only two turnovers a game to go with it. I don't care about passing, bro. You don't care about passing. Not really. Does anybody want to guess who the third leading assist man in the NBA was this season? Jalen Brown. No, sir.
Starting point is 01:09:51 Lamella Ball. Nope. Bronson. Nope. Oh, the Joker. Yeah, that is true. Yeah. Nicola Yokicch.
Starting point is 01:09:58 Number three assist man in the NBA. How much is you? We're going to have to. We're going to have to play against Nicole Yokic in the Olympics in the group stage because we're matched up against Serbia. But off to a good start last night, beat Canada in the exhibition game. LeBron looked incredible. They not like us. M.B. did not look so good.
Starting point is 01:10:19 I figured out the starting five. Steph Curry, Anthony Edwards, Jason Tatum, LeBron Jean, and Anthony Davis. It's not bad. All right. Who was the starting five last night? Well, Kevin Durant was out with a leg. concerns. So it was a weird starting five. It was like,
Starting point is 01:10:35 I think it was Drew Holiday. I have to look it up. Just go win the Olympics. You can't be not winning the Olympics. You think so? Yeah, we're the USA. We're like a minus 400 favorite. So you'd be disappointed if we lost?
Starting point is 01:10:50 Yeah, yeah. If we did lose, does it matter who we lose to that makes it a little bit better? Nope. No. No. I'm not going to care. lose you just you can't lose yeah you can't lose from 2006 to 2021 we didn't lose a game and since then i think we've lost six or nine games something like that so we need to so like so other countries is they can't get better in the sport they can and they have you see you see what's happening in in in
Starting point is 01:11:23 under 20 football USA we we've got the beat we got the brakes beat off of us It's embarrassing. By a couple of different countries. I think Japan. We were sending like D3 players for some reason. But so what? You're right. We still win.
Starting point is 01:11:39 But like why not send better players? The starting lineup, uh, the other night against Canada. LeBron, Devin Booker, Stefan Curry, Drew Holiday and Joel Embed. Yeah. And Bede struggling. What Drew Holiday playing the four? Like, what the hell? Team USA got by Cooper Flag and company 7473 as well.
Starting point is 01:11:59 flag looks good A lot of people excited That's the dude going to Duke right? Yeah Like we had to deal with him for what one year? One year So yeah that'll be between one and three games But the NIL
Starting point is 01:12:10 The NIL deals Hey man What if he's one of those guys like You know what I'm gonna stay No Like I'm gonna stay Like I can make more Think how much money he'll make in the league
Starting point is 01:12:22 He'll be the number one take He almost should sit out Not play at all Yeah Yeah But maybe maybe his parents are gonna be like hey, we want you to get your degree from Duke and all this stuff. And we're going to have to deal with him.
Starting point is 01:12:35 He's not getting a degree. He's going to one year. The point of going to college is to get a good job. He's got great for him. I can't wait the heck of that kid at JPJ. Duke getting the best white guy in every cycle feels like the worst sequel every year. It's cowboy. Wow.
Starting point is 01:12:53 We just heard there's Shrek 5 coming out, Toy Story 5's coming out. We just had twisters to a lot of sequels. Gladiator 2. Gladiator 2 is coming out. Denzel doesn't even need an accent. He can do what he wants. What would be your movie sequel? A movie that you had that you watch that you love,
Starting point is 01:13:10 give us, pitch us a sequel, and we're as a group, we're going to green light it. Or not. Or not. Okay. A black step brothers. Oh, green clip. Green clip.
Starting point is 01:13:23 That's awesome. Cast it. And I'm thinking, Kaisenat and Kevin Hart as, as the lead roles. And I think it'll be, we could get a funny, look a funny sequel out of that. And then I have another one that's a little bit more controversial,
Starting point is 01:13:40 maybe tubi-ish type movie, but instead of white chicks, do a white chicks too, call it black chick. Wasn't it a white chicks too? No? No, they never did it. Okay, all right, all right.
Starting point is 01:13:54 Terry Cruz is still around, the Wayans brothers. but I think they can probably shake up the funny controversial movies with something like that right now. That's good, man. That's good.
Starting point is 01:14:10 That's good. I'd like to go back to the world of the Truman show one of my favorite movies and then see him outside of the dome because we never get to see him outside of the dome. Like, set it in 24, like old Jim Carrey. He's the most famous guy on earth. He used to be the guy in the dome. He got the biggest Twitch
Starting point is 01:14:29 contract. And he's just, IRL, signed his life away, IRL to tape everything. I definitely could see that. Right. And then I've always wanted to see a sequel to Rounders. Rounders is one of my favorite movie, poker movie. Keep the same cast.
Starting point is 01:14:45 Matt Damon, Ed Norton, have them meet up in the World Series of Poker or something like that. I'm going with Hoosiers. I want to see Jimmy Chipwood in college. So I figure Coach Norm, Jimmy take their show on the road and they can kind of parlay it into like
Starting point is 01:15:03 almost the story about Larry Bird. So Indiana State, Indiana kind of do that. I'm going to do Steve Correll as the coach. I like him as a serious actor. Yeah, he's good. I think he's really good.
Starting point is 01:15:22 And then Ryan, what's his name, Ryan Goss? Wait, wait. Steve Carell is office. Yeah, Mike Scott. Yeah. And then I'm going to go Ryan Gosseling because they've teamed up before.
Starting point is 01:15:33 And we're going to do a little Jimmy Chippew with Ryan. Yeah, that's good. I think along those lines you could do blue chips too. It would just be a documentary of the current landscape of college basketball. Yeah. That would be a Netflix documentary. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:15:48 They were actually predicting the future in that movie. Yeah. How about first kid too? Simbad. Nice. Yeah. Love first kid. It's great, great movie.
Starting point is 01:16:01 Film mostly in Richmond, Virginia. Look closely enough you might see your boy. How's Simbad? Oh, you were in that movie? You were extra? Oh, nice. What a plug right there. Do you see that?
Starting point is 01:16:14 The first kid. Dancing. Yeah. Speaking of first kids. Yeah. Isn't like Trump's son like 6'4? Yes. No, I think he's like six, seven.
Starting point is 01:16:25 Dude, get him down on the block. Get him down on the block. That's why, dude, that's why every time he talks about him, he's like, yeah, he's fine. He's a good kid. Holy shit, he's six, nine. Yeah. See that? He's six, nine?
Starting point is 01:16:37 18 years old and six nine. Why do we not see this kid? Why do we not put him in a damn basketball? Why is he in a suit? Bro, if he brings his kid out on stage, like, Trump is irredeemable. But if he brings his kid out, I'm like, oh, Okay. Well, see, he'll never do that because he can't be shorter than anybody.
Starting point is 01:16:58 Oh. The best sequel may be whoever gets voted in. In November. 69. No matter who it is. First kid. The first kid. How tall is Trump?
Starting point is 01:17:10 Like six three. Is he? First kid, too, starring Sinbad and Baron Trump. Simbad 67. Did you have any read? I want to see airbud. I want to see another airbut. I know there's like six or six.
Starting point is 01:17:23 but give me another airbud and this one he's playing like like everyone, all the other ones are like football, basketball, baseball, soccer. Like, that wouldn't, you know, it's got to be a pit bull though. No, no, well, that's fine. They have to be a pit bull. But you've got to market a different dog. Have him play frisbee
Starting point is 01:17:39 because that's, that makes sense. Like dogs catch frisbys all the time. He goes out and he becomes a ridiculous frisbee player. Ultimate frisbee player. I'm not watching that. That makes him played sense. No. Get your boy, get your boy to get your boy to tech guy in it. Yeah. What's his name?
Starting point is 01:17:53 Marquez, Brose brats. Yeah, get him in it. That'll be lit. Yeah, terrible idea, cowboy. Terrible. No, I like it. Hey, we'll fund it independently. Speaking of that, if you're going to say that, we need a new sequel of, did you guys ever watch the Wishbone series with the Little Jack Terrier Russell?
Starting point is 01:18:09 Oh, I know. And they would teach, like, history lessons, and he would be like. Oh, he would be like George Washington, right? Yeah. I don't know it. They would put, like, costumes on this dog, and, like, every episode. So it would be like the dog is the main character of like telling a story about a famous person. And it's just funny thinking about it that there's not more stuff.
Starting point is 01:18:35 And just thinking about the production behind them doing that and like dealing with the dog for however long you have to deal with it, dressing it up and doing that. It's just funny to think about now like me being a kid and now thinking about it older in some of the shows. Well, Wishbone traveled a lot. And the other day, we talked about traveling and vacations. Damn, cowboy. You're on fire today. Let's, hey, let's rip a little draft here. It's a summer.
Starting point is 01:19:03 People want places to vacation. We're out on the beach, right? We need places that aren't the beach. Shout out to Scotty Trill. He was DM and he wants to sell you and Baggie on coming to Minnesota. Lakes have grass. They don't have a beach. Damn.
Starting point is 01:19:18 Black people not invited, Scotty? That's crazy. No, you get, hey, Scotty thought you were already going to, Come. Scotty thought you were going to be in the next flight. It is Minnesota. So cold in Minnesota. But we're going to rip.
Starting point is 01:19:29 Let's rip a quick draft. We'll writ the five of us. Three picks apiece. We'll start with Nate and we'll just do a loop. I got a randomized order up there. Sorry. We're going to do a randomized order. Yeah, Matt be hated, yo.
Starting point is 01:19:43 Matt is a hater. Anything that involves me and Matt competing, he never wants to give me anything. You got the second pick randomly. and so what do you mean randomly exactly I did a number random number generator okay
Starting point is 01:19:58 no one's not yeah but just remember that if somebody picks a destination that's in a state that state is no longer eligible hmm I'm not going to be pandering
Starting point is 01:20:11 with my picks I'm going to go straight straight with my heart perfect that's yeah stuff why I and this you don't have to have visited this place it can be you know you saw
Starting point is 01:20:21 picture one time. Is Puerto Rico in play? Puerto Rico's in play. Sure. United States and their and yeah you don't need to. Yeah. Places you don't need a passport to go. Yes. All right. Coach one one.
Starting point is 01:20:36 I'm going shocker because I'll put this city up against anywhere in the summer Chicago, Illinois. It's not a terrible pick. I mean coming from you, not great. Is it not hot? 100 days of summer.
Starting point is 01:20:51 100 days of summer in Chicago. I know. I know. It's pretty lit. Can't lie. Thank you. It is nice there in the summer. Well, I'm going with Maui. Maui, wow we. I think I've been to Maui, what, three or four times?
Starting point is 01:21:10 Holy shit, that's a lot of times. Yeah. So my sister, she got married to her wife there. So, like, I went there once for the wedding. And that one time I went, it was, it put in the process. restaurant on me that, hey, every couple years, if I can get the money together and plan a trip early enough, I'm going out there. It's very expensive, but it's always worth it. The flights, they are long. Very long. Very long. I remember one time I was in Chicago, one of the first times
Starting point is 01:21:41 I went, and I just made it a point that I got so drunk the last day in Maui that I slept in the middle seat of five are one of those planes like three, five, three for eight and a half hours from Maui to Chicago. And did you have a neck pillow? Yes. Can you keep your head straight? All right. That's always my fear.
Starting point is 01:22:03 The woman next to me when we landed, I woke up. She gasped and she goes, I thought there was something wrong with you. You didn't move that entire. She wasn't going to tell anybody? She thought you were dead and she wasn't going to say anything. She was just like, I've never seen someone be on a plane. And she was like, there was turbulence. and all this stuff, and she was like,
Starting point is 01:22:22 you were unbothered the whole time. You really do sleep through anything. I've seen it. It's amazing. I have to, when I'm on planes, I get, it's weird.
Starting point is 01:22:32 Like, I kind of get like motion sickness here and there, but I realize, like, if you go to sleep, like, like turbulence and stuff doesn't affect me, which is weird to think about.
Starting point is 01:22:42 Like, but if I'm up in turbulence happens, I feel like I'm going to throw up. So I just try to do that. All right, I'm going with the coast. of Maine it's it's it's uh electric in the summer okay I call my first fishing man that is beautiful if I have to say a specific spot I'll say bar harbor yeah okay
Starting point is 01:23:02 great answer uh there's a national park right there I think it's called Acadia yeah holy mackerel yeah you scoop one off my nice hey you go to Acadia you go to climb the beehive yeah dog yeah catalack mountain for the sunrise yeah yeah you got it did you have a lobster roll uh yeah yeah yeah yeah I've only been once. Okay. For the record. Nice.
Starting point is 01:23:23 Did you have a lobster roll? Yeah, at a lobster roll. Oh, you didn't. I want to be the family that we go to, you know, that we summer in Maine for 10 days every year, you know? Oh, that's nice. Probably not going to happen, but I would like that. That's my ideal set up.
Starting point is 01:23:39 Yeah, you need to. That's perfect. Yeah. I'm going redacted Idaho. Probably could have got that place, you know, late round. I don't know. but redacted Idaho, you can fish on the redacted river in redacted Idaho, one of the best places, prettiest places.
Starting point is 01:23:57 I'll give you, it's near Sun Valley. So it's kind of central, middle of the state. Wait, you're really not saying the place of Idaho? Why are you protecting it? Because once people find out about this place, it's going to be overrun and people are going to be mad. What are we doing? I appreciate that, read. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:11 What are we doing here? Cowboy, that's what you should do. Hey, Sun Valley's a great, like, little marker. It's not going to look great on the graphic, Cowboy. That's fun. That's totally protected Idaho. It, hey,
Starting point is 01:24:21 one of the prettiest places I've ever been. And like, I pull into this spot, this guy walks out, this white water rafting place, this guy walks out. He's like,
Starting point is 01:24:30 hey, man, I see your license plate. You're from Virginia. I went to JMU. I was like, no shit, I went to JMU. And he's like, when did you graduate?
Starting point is 01:24:36 I graduated 2016. I was like, I graduated 2016. Me and this random guy never met. Turned out I'd partied in his backyard, plenty in Harrisonburg.
Starting point is 01:24:44 Really nice guy. He took me on the river. We wrapped it down the river. We had a great night. at the bar caught a couple of fish. I slept on his couch. Not a real person. He saw it.
Starting point is 01:24:52 Sounds like a date. It turned into a date, dude. Hey, redacted Idaho. What's his name? His name is, I haven't talked to me about four years. You don't remember his name? Worst first pick in a draft history.
Starting point is 01:25:05 Let's move on to Matt. Thanks, Nate. I'll take the U.S. Virgin Islands in specific St. John. Nice. Been there a couple of times. beautiful. That's Kenny Chesney's spot. St. John.
Starting point is 01:25:22 He parks a boat there. Take your word for it. Yeah. Yeah. All right. We're back around to Kev. Kev. Oh, me. Wow. I'm up. I'm going Las Vegas. Straight up Las Vegas. You can have that. For the summer, you can have it. I'd literally just seen a tweet.
Starting point is 01:25:38 No problem. It's been one. It's been 115. It's been 115. It's a whole even better. Hey. One 15. Let me tell you. It's got whatever you want. It feels like bath water.
Starting point is 01:25:48 Whatever you want. It's a no-brainer. So Nevada, off the board. That's awful. Nevada and Idaho are gone. Dylan Mora is the guy's name, by the way, and redacted. Oh, we gave us full name. All right, perfect.
Starting point is 01:26:02 Yeah. All right, Nate. I am going with Mantucket, Massachusetts. Nice. I am big into fishing now, and I would also like to try catching lobsters. and I heard that some of the best fishing and views that you can get up north so yeah I want to do a man from Nantucket
Starting point is 01:26:28 ah yeah say more all right makes oh okay um New Orleans gonna do some voodoo I'd just I'd like to do New Orleans without it being five straight days of
Starting point is 01:26:54 Bourbon Street on a Bachelor party Would you Would you go on a There's a lot of culture A lot of history Oh would you go on a swamp Go on a ghost
Starting point is 01:27:04 Yeah, all of it Yeah Nice Food you're eating well You're gonna boo Vegas But then say New Orleans For sure Yes
Starting point is 01:27:13 No way Every day of the week And twice Yeah dude Come on No way Yeah And I will say
Starting point is 01:27:18 Cajun food Is probably Some of the best Yeah I've ever had. Can get it in Vegas. Those pastries are overrated, though. The beignettes?
Starting point is 01:27:28 Yeah. I agree. It's a bag of sugar with a doughball in it. It's a donut. Does it taste good? Pretty good. Huh? Does it taste good?
Starting point is 01:27:37 Yeah. My second pick, I'm going to Steboat Springs, Colorado. I'll give you the full place this time. You want to take the family? No problem. Great place to take the family. You just go by yourself and ski,
Starting point is 01:27:47 mountain bike, fish, fish. Nate, fish. the fishing is all time out there. Seamode Springs, Colorado. It, like, gives you the kind of feel of a mountain town. I heard the fishing is not better than redacted, Idaho. So I'll wrap it from there. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:04 But, hey, you, like, you can make it feel like it's a big city, or you can go 10 minutes outside the town and you're on, you know, six of the biggest ranches in, you know, the country. Nice pick. I'm surprised Florida and California are still on the board, but I'm going to follow my home. heart and take outer banks north Carolina there you go oh
Starting point is 01:28:24 nice my favorite spot it's a nice pick caught a fish outer banks we should have a map and how many what states needs caught a fish not a lot of places Virginia and North Carolina did I even fish in Florida
Starting point is 01:28:41 no didn't you say didn't you say you caught your first oh yeah yeah in Maine yeah holy mackerel there you go I was like 10 visiting my sister at his own. All right. I'm going. I'm low hanging through here. I'm going Miami. Love Miami. Good time. Good time? What's your favorite club? Back in the day? Now. I haven't been there. I don't do the clubs anymore. Yeah, back in the day.
Starting point is 01:29:10 What was it bed? Was bed a big one? Living room? All that. Yeah. You got Chicago, Las Vegas in Miami. You're going to travel with like the other 10 million people. that are all in this way. That's fine. That's fine. I'll remember their names. And this is all, this is all for summer. This is summer, right? Yeah. Yeah. And last but not least, I'm going with Hampton's New York. Yeah. That's a nice pick, Nate. Yeah. You know? And you just eliminated one of my contenders, New York City. Exactly. Which is great in the summer. Take it off the, take it off the board. But the Hamptons, you know, go to a few white parties, hang out, see the rich folk, see what they do, people watch.
Starting point is 01:29:55 I spent the summer in the Hamptons, like, coaching at a camp being a counselor, at a camp, East Hampton Sports Camp. Can you go to the Hamptons on a budget, or do you have to, like, throw down 50 grand for the rental house? I think you definitely can go on a budget, but it's more, you probably have to find someone that's getting a big rental house and be like, hey, like, we can, split this. That's usually how they do it. My friends, every year, they try to get me to come
Starting point is 01:30:24 and lock off a room for like a week or so, but I'm not really, I'm not really, not yet. But it's on my list to Hampton. All right, makes. I don't know if there's a proper city. I'm going to take Big Sur in California. It's beautiful. It's probably between Monterey and Carmelish, but I'll, I'll take Big Sur. Driven through a one. The one is unbelievable. Is there big surfing in Big Sur? There's not a ton because the cliffs like go straight down. You have to go like north, like just south of San Francisco to get better surfing.
Starting point is 01:31:01 But the cliffs like just like hit the water. Those are shark infested water. Whale infested whales all over the place. Whales are Maui too. Yeah. Maui, wawa. Whales are cool. My number three could go Weakabog, Rhode Island.
Starting point is 01:31:17 Oh, you just took California, son of a gun. I did. Damn. Sorry, man. You said Providence, Rhode Island? Weekapog. It's near Providence. Week of Pog is what he took.
Starting point is 01:31:26 Yeah, 45 minutes south. But that's not my final. That's like what I could go with. What I'm going to go with. Walla Walla, Washington. You know he's going to go to Montana. He's going Montana. I'm going Jackson, Wyoming.
Starting point is 01:31:41 Okay. Jackson Wyoming. That's a good pick. I've been there. Where, like, you know, everyone's like, oh, go to Jackson, Oh, go to the city, go to the blah, blah, blah. No, man, it's all about outside or all around.
Starting point is 01:31:51 You go to the Graves River, about 45. Ooh. Why don't we like Wyoming? Oh, because the one time you went there and you had to play football. Yep. And I couldn't breathe at all. Man, crazy time. Matt, final pick.
Starting point is 01:32:11 Yeah, I'm torn between South Jersey and another spot. Go with the other spot. spot I'd say. All right. Anything but South Jersey. I'm saying Groton Longpoint,
Starting point is 01:32:26 Connecticut. Oh, bad there a few times. Right on the Connecticut sound beautiful. If you love sailing, boating, it's a lot of fun.
Starting point is 01:32:33 Is that near where you grew up, Nate? Do you know this place? I know where it's at, but it's, um, yeah, sailing is big there.
Starting point is 01:32:41 I know a lot of kids like where I went to high school. They were part of the Stanford Yacht Club and they used to, they used to be sailing. Sailing looks cool, but at the same token, it's a little boring. I'm getting a one about Bob vibe with that place. You guys don't know. Do you know?
Starting point is 01:32:58 Oh, I know about Bob. Sure. Bill Murray. Where did they go in that movie? I don't remember. Was it Maine? Was it like the Cape? I think it was like Maine. Yeah. Very underrated movie. New York City was left on my board. I've done Nashville a lot. You guys just went to Austin. I haven't done Austin. The National Parks, Yosemite, Glacier, Yellowstone, Grand Teton.
Starting point is 01:33:24 Those all seem pretty dope. I'm counting Grand Teton in Jackson. Oh. That's part of my... Good for you. It's just north of Jackson. It's part of my Jackson... Another spot I was going to say is Alaska.
Starting point is 01:33:39 Because my parents lived in Alaska. My dad went to University of Anchorage, Alaska. No shit. Oh, kid. Played in the first great-Alascan shootout. Played against Sam Bowie. Wow. Yeah, but I've always wanted to go there.
Starting point is 01:33:52 And now that I'm into, kind of into camping, but into fishing, and they have crazy good fishing out there. And it would be cool to go out there and try to catch one of those big salmon and just cut it up fresh and try it, eat it like a bear. Alaska's really, we went on a cruise a couple years ago. my mom took us. It's awesome. I only hear good things about it. Listeners don't flame us in the comments. I know there are a lot of good states left on. The what about Bob destination is Lake Winapasaki, New Hampshire. Right, right. Winapasaki. All righty, fellas. That'll do it. Greenlight Pod. Have a little.
Starting point is 01:34:36 Oh, before we go. Before we go. I wanted to ask you, what do you think you're going to have to fill that checkout for if you had the guess? to fix my car yeah yeah oh the number yeah great question I've been thinking about it all morning because it could be nothing
Starting point is 01:34:56 no that's that's what I'm saying like or are you like prepared to go in there and they're like oh I'm prepared this is going to be $1,100 bucks no I think it very well could be that damn I will say did the light just come on but is your car
Starting point is 01:35:09 doing something that's light came on a week ago all right And I have my go-to guy who's out of town. So I had to go to backup guy who's frustrated that I brought in business. Yesterday I noticed there's something dripping pretty good at the bottom. I'm going to say it's three digits and it starts with a seven. I think that's going to be the damage. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:35:31 I'll be devastated. I'll keep you posted. It's not going to be great. I'm hoping that it's not that. I'm going to take the under. Okay. I'm going to take the under. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:35:40 I'm going to have to do it for you. Am I going to get the car back today? That'd be nice. Guys busy. It's hot out. I don't think so. It depends on what type of work they have to do. The number, but no, I think.
Starting point is 01:35:54 Yeah, it depends on what work they have to do. And the past couple of days has been really, really hot. And I feel like for whatever reason, when it gets really, really hot, mechanics, they get busy. A lot of people, hey, I need the ACs go out. Yeah, like, it's too hot for me to drive without it. And maybe doing like a bunch of ACs. season a day is probably easier than doing something major. You've got to lease the car, man.
Starting point is 01:36:17 Drop that thing off and be done. Get a loner. Told you that. I'm just grateful my wife dropped off of means by which I can pay for this. So did you catch an Uber here? If I can ask. You can ask. I dropped the car off, all right?
Starting point is 01:36:36 And then I walked here. Oh, nice. Yeah. Oh, you're at CNN. Oh, that's where I should be. But no, I'm at redacted. Oak. They dropped me a five-brand.
Starting point is 01:36:45 You got to, who, CNN? Yeah. Yeah, dude. Oh, wow. What do you say about them? On the van. They did what? They wanted to charge me five grand for a new trans.
Starting point is 01:36:54 I'm out. Okay. Brought it back home. Now, I'm at a spot, you know, 20 and a wall. If you need the witcha-call, you got to go to the junkyard, a block up from them and see if they have the parts there, and then you don't get charged. I don't do my own work like you, man. I mean, yeah. But you're right.
Starting point is 01:37:11 You're right. That's really like all you got to do. do you got to figure it out that's not all you guys that's a lot go to the junkyard shit but dog junkyard dog hopefully it goes well for you thank you appreciate that take care yourselves
