Starting point is 00:00:00 It's funny because I played against the Steelers and I threw six touchdown passes, but I also threw two interceptions. And I came up in my five brothers who are waiting your motorhome. And hey, congratulations, six touchdowns. And my brother, right, you go, what the hell are you looking at at one interception? I got, I read that from where I was at. I go, right, I threw six touchdown. You go, no, but I know that.
Starting point is 00:00:21 He would jack me. I'm like, man, I'm going to knock you out. Welcome to the Green Light Podcast. Today's episode, do we take another trip up to Buffalo? We get to interview Jim Kelly. Chris and Jim sat down late last week. This is the last interview from our Bill's trip. Jim tells some great tales of his playing days back in the late 80s and into the 90s,
Starting point is 00:00:49 going to four straight Super Bowl, is playing Howie, getting Howie to jump offside six times. Chris remembers that game. And even into Jim's fandom of the bills now, he's a huge fan of Josh Allen. He texts him all the time. Josh, as we heard in Josh's interview, isn't the best of returning text messages, but they still text nonetheless.
Starting point is 00:01:06 An awesome conversation with Jim, we have a blast. To kick things off, Chris gives a couple NFL updates. We talk about the Matthew Judon Trade. He's now an Atlanta Falcon. Another gentleman, Justin Simmons, former Bronco, current Atlanta Falcon recently signed. I give a little hat tip to Justin. We also talk about some of the biggest news to hit the entire world. Nicholas Cage is going to be playing John Madden in a Madden biopic.
Starting point is 00:01:29 An amazing casting. Chris is very excited about it. you'll hear it at the end of the open. Please enjoy. Make sure you pop over to YouTube. We've got a very special YouTube interview. Kalin DeBoer, the Alabama football head coach. Chris and Macon talked to him.
Starting point is 00:01:44 Had a great conversation. Make sure to check out that. Make sure to check out Jim Kelly. We have great other content over there. Please enjoy it. All right, fellas, just me today. We've got Kaylon DeBoer on YouTube. If you're already watching it on YouTube, just click over.
Starting point is 00:02:25 head coach of the Alabama Crimson Todd. It's a good thing when you're running out of space on your audio podcast and you got to put stuff on YouTube. That's what's happening. We just had some great guests with our camp trips. So check that out if you're an audio listener. And in general, if you're an audio listener, come over to YouTube because you can see me. Like right now, I'm making a face.
Starting point is 00:02:47 You don't know what face I'm making. Could be making any face. You don't know. The people watching on YouTube know. So come over and fucking subscribe, do the whole thing. Okay. But anyways, we got Jim Kelly today. Awesome opportunity to sit down with Jim for a while at his favorite restaurant.
Starting point is 00:03:06 I'll tell you more about that in a little bit. Guys, you can feel it, dudes. Football is here. It's getting close. The amount that we depend on the dopamine you get from our bed MGM app or whatever app you're using every fall. the way it like tapers off slowly through the spring and the summer i i cannot wait to put these wind totals in and to bet the entire first first slate so i i can't wait we got uh we got a lot to talk about today well not that much to talk about reed uh you want to you want to give like uh i don't
Starting point is 00:03:47 know what the word like uh eulogy for justin simmons he's not dead but he's i know he's not a bronco and he's likely not living in Denver anymore, which is a, it's a bummer. My friend, who's a Falcons fan, just texted me. He said, I will enjoy your tears. One year, $8 million, he's going to Atlanta, and now Atlanta should be, everyone should bet on Atlanta to win the NFC South. So is he one of your all-time favorite Broncos as far as like this generation? Yeah, I mean, he's the easiest guy to root for. Unfortunately, him and Gariboles both came right after the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:04:22 The revolving door of quarterback for those guys, and they both performed. Justin Simmids is all pro in this past year. He was top 30 or 40, you know, NFL top 100. I know that doesn't matter all that much. The one that left the Ligerius Needoff. Yeah. And now he's, I'm stoked for him in Atlanta. Hopefully, you know, we've reviewed Michael Pennix, Jr.
Starting point is 00:04:47 Yeah, we like his day. Tuesday. So maybe he can come back with Mitch. Captain Kirk will be. back and i think i think i think it's going to be pretty good and we'll talk about that in a couple minutes so anyways uh i'll say uh st louis uh missouri hello i'm going back last time i went was 2019 it was may it was the stanley cup finals my dad grew up big boston bruin's fan i'm a huge blues fan or huge relatively speaking i don't know what's going on until they start playing for real
Starting point is 00:05:16 okay but needless to say i didn't want to miss it they were up a couple games in the series i think at that point they needed this win boston was coming to town i'm supposed to get you know recognized on jumbotron it's going to be lit right they're down for nothing by the time i get recognized and when i get recognized people are very like ah about it they're not like yeah they're like and that totally understood didn't expect to get a big you know big reception anyways but being down 4-0 really put a damper on it so needless to say every time i go including my entire career as the st louis ram which ended up 39 and like 78 i'm bad luck is what i decided sitting there watching that hockey game and uh have me thinking back to st louis cardinals 2008 may 29th okay
Starting point is 00:06:18 uh i'm supposed to throw a first pitch out i'm like the big rookie they're like what's this guy got in front of 41,000 people, and I've told this story a bunch, I nearly drilled a World War II vet in the head, like inches away from hitting that guy, almost hit the home plate umpire, fucking ball rolled off the backstop all the way to first base. Poor World War II vet. I was thinking about this today. I think about it with, I think about it with my dogs that we had to give away a couple years ago. Like, are they okay? Are they still alive? Probably not. And today I was kind of like i wonder how that guy's doing well natural causes probably got him but that day he was this close to it being me and that was something i probably would i don't know how my career would
Starting point is 00:07:02 have gone can you imagine like it didn't it went fine but like it didn't go like i'm like if if i had drilled that guy in the head that day i don't know will we be here probably not no there's no way i have a podcast if two things happen in my life if i drill that guy in the head with a baseball and kill him or if we don't come back from 28 to 3 there's no way i'm doing this podcast so that was a crazy day almost hit the guy real loser not me roy o's wallet he got he picked up the l that day it's dropped to four and five on the season uh but the the bottom line is i'm coming back to st louis throw another first pitch out this is my chance for redemption i'm going in a couple weeks here i don't know who they play um doesn't matter tunnel vision right here i'm only thinking
Starting point is 00:07:49 about the strike zone i am going to joe namath guarantee a strike all right i'm sitting on the beach there's a bunch of reporters around broadway chris what's going to happen when you throw out their first pitch man you're going to be able to hear the fucking leather in the upper deck the way it's going to pop and it's going to be i mean that catcher's not even going to have to move his wrist it's going to be unbelievable last time i asked the catcher any advice he said just don't skip it and then I sailed it 10 feet over it. So I'm not asking anybody's fucking advice. Catcher's going to introduce himself.
Starting point is 00:08:23 I'm not even going to talk to him. I'm just going to get up on that hill and I'm going to throw a fucking seed right down the middle. All right. So that's ready break. That's what's going to happen. I'm super psyched about my opportunity to come back and just wanted to say hello to St. Louis. It's fitting that I really wanted to talk about the Hawk to a girl day because she's in the news
Starting point is 00:08:43 because she threw out a first pitch. She was at the Mets game. She threw out a first pitch. my boy jimmy traina doesn't understand evidently how these things work uh and jimmy's tweet was um i just want to see if i have this clear go on a video and reveal your blowjob technique and then you get to throw out the first pitch at a met's game that's what's going on here right um no honestly what's going on here is uh there's blow job content doesn't like automatically equal fame not all blowjob content content works, right?
Starting point is 00:09:19 Of course. Like, it's not like the most famous dick suckers of all time are out there throwing out first pitches and fucking Nancy Reagan. Yeah, that's the lay up there for you. That's one right over the plate. You know, Superhead,
Starting point is 00:09:32 none of these people. Monica Lewinsky has not parlayed that action into, I mean, I don't know if she's, she's rich now. I think she has like a line of handbags or something. Obviously. Why?
Starting point is 00:09:45 Why? What's the, What's the, hey, you know, I think, I think, uh, handbags would, you could parlay this into it. Maybe I, okay. Monica Lewinsky has not, has not like, all I'm saying is, let's not take anything away from this girl. She's charismatic. That's the reason she's famous. She's charming. Okay. I could care less what Hawk Tua feels like. Okay. That's not why I want to consume her content. I want to consume her content because she's funny.
Starting point is 00:10:23 She's charming. She's one of these people that goes viral and I want to stick around for a little bit. Remember, Salt Bay, one of him gone immediately. We're like, get the fuck out of here, dude. Okay? Chubaka lady, childbirth Chewbacca lady. She was fun for a second. But you want her thrown out of her first pitch?
Starting point is 00:10:43 Do you want a bad baby? Cash me outside. Bobby. Or do you want Ken Bone thrown out of first pitch? You know what I mean? So I'm just saying, Jimmy and others, this gal is not your average. I mean, I seen her on Whitney Cummings podcast. She was really funny.
Starting point is 00:11:03 She was insightful even. I mean, she was dropping jewels on that podcast. And then I saw her on shoes with Bill, Bill Maher. What's he doing booking her? She was great on his podcast, too. So I really like the gal. Somebody asked me if we're going to have her on the podcast. I was like, yeah, I would love to if she, like, volunteered coming on.
Starting point is 00:11:26 But I can't bring myself to email her publicist. You know what I mean? That's where I draw the line. I'll do it. If you're famous for blowjob-related content, I'm not going through the proper channels. You know what I mean? You'll do it, though? Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:11:41 I don't know if the people want her on the pod. But I'm just saying I don't mind her content, okay? All right. here's the big news the big news is the falcons are getting better i really i they're falcons fans have high hopes and that's a dangerous thing in alana if you know like what the psyche of a falcons fan is all about it's about like being prepared for the worst to happen and they let their guard down for a second honestly from being in that stadium 28 to 3 looking around seeing the rappers on the jumbo tron like everybody's cheese and the whole thing every Atlanta celebrity was there and I could see the falcons fans
Starting point is 00:12:20 they forgot what it was about being a falcons fan because they they had a fuck ton of hope actually what they had transcended hope they had confidence they thought they were going to win that super bowl and they were wrong and I wasn't aware as a NFL player of you know when you play in the NFL you don't know fan bases you don't know histories of teams the same way as when you cover it and I've gotten no falcons over the last well since that game and you guys you guys do not expect things to work out and i respect the fuck out of that but i think this year it might work out i'm not saying you're going in the super bowl but i do think i don't think you're going to walk out of this year and be disappointed unless kirk cousins you know isn't healthy comes back he's not himself he pops his other achilles
Starting point is 00:13:11 something bad happens i don't know i think pennics look good the other day, but am I ready with confidence to say that he could start an NFL football game and make you guys happy? Probably not. I mean, the receiving core is not as bad as people think, but it's thin. If Drake London gets hurt, it's a thinner group. You know, Kyle Pitts, you're asking him, and I know this for a fact, he's healthier than he was last year. At one point last year, talking to Matt Collins about it, like he wasn't healthy, you know. So Kyle Pitts, I'm looking for him to have a better year. He's not catching the ball from Ritter.
Starting point is 00:13:49 He's not catching the ball from any of these guys. He's catching the ball from a quarterback who's experience, who can turn his back to the defense, and you've seen it in Washington, in Minneapolis, wherever he's been. Play action's been a part of his game. Finding the tight end's been a part of his game. The middle of the field is a part of his game.
Starting point is 00:14:12 So I actually think the offense is going to be. be pretty good. The concern you have is like what's going on on defense, what's up with the pass rush. And, you know, this is a group that when they drafted Pennix, I think people said there are some holes that you could have filled with this very speculative stab at a quarterback who is not going to, if things are working out, play for you for a couple of years. And pass rush was one of them. and I look at it and I say, fast forward to now where they send a three over for Matt Judon, who turned 32 today. We'll talk about that in a second.
Starting point is 00:14:50 But they send over a three for this guy. And they're in desperation mode because everything I just said, the concerns about the past rush, the whole thing, they didn't really address it. Part of that might have been making the reach for Pennix or what, I don't know what went into it. They drafted Trice from Washington. I guess that's their way of, you know, putting the fire out, he blows his ACL out in the preseason game. So now you were thin before
Starting point is 00:15:19 and it was it was a speculative thin where it's like, hey, well, Grady's coming off an IR. EB Kete's had a nice run of football late in the season last year, but he's got to take a step and we need tries to come in. And supposedly he looked good. To be fair, was working with the ones, the whole thing. But now he's out of the equation. So you were desperate before. Now you're really desperate and honestly for a team that from what it sounds like took a stab at montes sweat tried to send a two over for him tried to trade up for law to you know have tried a couple desperate measures this is not the most desperate move they could have made i mean sending a three up to to new england and i get it they're going to try to get a deal done they will get a deal done but if they
Starting point is 00:16:06 don't they get the three back uh sending a three up to to new england for a guy who has been one of the premier rushers in the league coming off an injury buying him low i think it could be worse and now you you do have two guys coming off injuries two vets who are well respected coming off an injury on that front but you also have some young talent guys i mentioned and you have really good play in the secondary now with justin simmons arriving and obviously everybody loves a j terell uh i think they're going to be pretty good i I think they put the fire out at least. If Judon can come back healthy, if they stay healthy, they put the fire out, you know.
Starting point is 00:16:47 And like I said, could have been worse. I mean, and I think sweat's a damn good player. If you ask me right now, would I rather have sweat or Judon? I'd rather have sweat. And I would have said the same thing at the end of last season when that tray was made only because of his age. Okay. You know, rushers, especially guy like Judon, and part of the reason New England's probably okay, stick into the mantra of, hey, if you don't like it, leave.
Starting point is 00:17:09 if you don't like it here get out especially if you're 30-something years old like i said judan turn 32 today situation where they're betting that hey you know if you've got a good year to a football left it's probably not worth paying you uh by the time we're good you're going to be washed and that's what they believe and that's what they've done in the past and i think not for nothing gerob mayo doing that right off the bat you know this new regime saying hey we're going to We're going to be different than the old regime, but we're not going to do shit like this. That says to me that, especially for a young coach, his first player disagreement, I mean, you're talking about a guy who's my age.
Starting point is 00:17:51 I mean, like, I can imagine being in a locker room and trying to put out of fire with Matt Judah. And a guy who's trying to feed his family who was a better player than me, I'm trying to imagine being in that scenario as a coach, right? Like, this guy's a star right now. and you know it's your first opportunity to either convince the guy to stay appeal to his sensibilities and sticking around or navigate it this way and say hey we don't need you here we'll ship you off you're 32 by the time drake may or milton or whoever it is has this thing turned around you might be 34 years old and we're not bent on you necessarily being better right off this injury and that that to me you know, like their willingness to part ways with him.
Starting point is 00:18:38 I'm not saying it means that they're not, you know, they're not confident he's going to be the same player, but they know him better than anybody. And sending him down to Atlanta, it looks to me like they're not afraid of the outcome. You know what I mean? Even if he's helpful there, I think, you know,
Starting point is 00:18:55 you could look up as a Patriots fan and say, we didn't need him this year. What are we competing for? Why would we pay him? Back to the Falcons for a second. You know, Jimmy Lake, is the guy on defense he's coming over with Rahim he was in LA with Rahim last year and they blitzed a lot they were top 10 in blitz rate and you think about that like they didn't
Starting point is 00:19:17 have great corners there were a lot of young guys in secondary you know that's a lot to ask of them and they were able to do it and they did it knowing they had a premier rusher inside and part of that might be sometimes to free him up because of all the attention he's getting to demand slide to do things where you actually get Aaron Donald singled up You have to dictate that sometimes. But I look at them now and I'm like, okay, the rushers are good, not great. There's some solid players there, but you're banking on some things happening and breaking, right? The secondary is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:19:49 It's better than the group we had in L.A. So I think they're going to turn the heat up a little bit. And I look at things that I say, hey, Nielsen, that's not really what he majored in. He's in Jacksonville now. I think this group is if they're disciplined and they can learn the system, I think they're going to bring pressure. And I think they could end up being a team that gets a lot out of the talent they have because of some really well-time pressures.
Starting point is 00:20:17 And so I look at this as a positive for Atlanta. I look at it as a positive for New England. I think, honestly, Atlanta probably kicked the tires on Hassan Reddick and found out that the tag price was pretty high. And also the fact that Hassan Reddick right now, he was in Tokyo in a robe. and now he's in he's in new york like i'm not playing and i also think the timing of it is joe douglas says he's not going anywhere a day later Atlanta does this you know so they had to make a desperate move there could have been a number of moves that were more desperate but this one fell into their lap
Starting point is 00:20:53 and they restructured uh linstrum you know doing that i think they freed up nine million if i'm reading that correctly they bring in simmons your boy i think they're going to be pretty good. I'm excited to see him play. I mean, like, the other thing is guys in their 30s from the New England standpoint, when these rushers start to break down, and he's a power rusher, like, you know, he's a guy who can win with speed, but he's a physical guy. It becomes harder and harder to come back from these injuries, and they can compound. And, you know, you know, look at the Von Miller thing. It's been a couple injuries in his early 30s, and he hasn't looked exactly the same he could have a big comeback year this year but more often than not it's hard to get back
Starting point is 00:21:41 on the horse at that age and so i kind of get it but uh pat's also had interest from chicago they had interest from houston that tells me chicago's not real happy with whatever's going on opposite montes sweat the houston thing i don't know what you read there uh but i read the tea leaves and say if anybody's trying to make a move like this right now uh there's a reason and i also think it's interesting to look at things from a as we get in August who are the teams who are selling who are the teams who are buying those teams kind of send you signals they tip their cap on what they think they can be you know the pats are saying hey we're not competing this year and the falcons are saying hey we're pretty good and i tend to believe i tend to believe them i really do these are the
Starting point is 00:22:24 trades i look at when i'm betting win totals like the screams patriots under yeah i think that defense is going to be good enough even without judon that they're competitive and one more thing for pat's fans say this went totally differently you know like i'm not saying you ever want somebody get hurt but here we are judon got hurt last year and not only is it more justifiable to send him away and you know you're not feeling the pressure as a new regime of telling a guy who's probably coming off another double digit season saying i want my money that's going to be a tougher sell to just be like, yeah, we'll fuck off. Him getting hurt also drove the value of Uche down.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Josh Uche, I think, had 12 sacks or something like that two years ago. Last year comes back. I think he ends up with three, four sacks on the season. And I'm not saying that always tells the whole story. And I'm not saying he won't be really good again without Matt Judon, but obviously Judon, the adjustment, not having that rush or opposite. affects you. I think if Uche had a big year, if Judon was healthy, you'd have two big decisions on your hands, right? Like Uche came back on a one-year deal. It's like a guy that two years ago was a
Starting point is 00:23:42 double-ditchet sack guy who had some dominant performances and you get him on a one-year deal. And you get a three for Judon and you can bide your time and do this thing the right way. And Keon White, anytime I talk about the Patriots this year, I'm going to talk about him. I think he's going to have a really good year. And I think, of course, he's a second year guy to Georgia Tech, been a big fan of his since they've drafted him. The dude is a problem out there. And, you know, now he might become a little bit more of a centerpiece.
Starting point is 00:24:18 So interesting, really interesting to see the buyers and the sellers. And for you Falcons fans, you got some hope now. So what you choose to do with that hope is up to you. but I actually think it might work out. Guys, round in the corner, getting ready to do this Jim Kelly interview or show you this Jim Kelly interview. I just want to say this. There's not a lot of people in sports who I am sympathetic towards more than Jim Kelly.
Starting point is 00:24:50 And I don't mean that, like, just a pure pity party kind of way. It's a grown man. He can handle it. But going to the Super Bowl four times, the things in my career that I still struggle with, that I look back on with regret, that are so insignificant to everybody else. I just know my window into his existence
Starting point is 00:25:14 or any of those guys on that team or countless guys in the history of our game who just fell just short of that goal that defines you for some reason. I mean, I have so much respect for the way he's handled it. And he's had a lot of stuff pop up in his life that has reinforced the insignificance, relatively speaking of sports.
Starting point is 00:25:42 So maybe he's better equipped to do that. But I think he's been remarkable, his attitude, his kind of like joy for life. Like I don't know too many guys who's more excited to get out of bed every day than Jim Kelly. And I've known him a long time. And I'm not saying I'm like a nephew to the guy. but growing up with my dad i got to know certain guys a little bit better than others and he was a guy
Starting point is 00:26:04 who was always really cool to me wherever i went and now full circle i'm 39 popping up to buffalo we're on cloud nine because we got josh allen hey let's see what jim kelly's doing he's like fuck yeah i'll meet you at my favorite restaurant so i've got my own room in my favorite restaurant i've got my own room we'll get food we'll kick it we'll just BS a while and um these are my favorite kind of interviews like they really are i come in with some notes but i don't even look at them because with the guy like jim you can go anywhere he wants to go and it's going to be awesome so that's coming up in a second couple of injuries since we're talking about you know NFL news uh matt milano bicep for the year kills me you know it might be back by playoff time might be back by playoff time luckily if there's a
Starting point is 00:26:53 silver lining and i don't see it this way but these guys guys have been through it um you know last year they had to play without him and they'll live in nickel went eight and four without him last year yeah went eight and four without him so he's a remarkable player but uh sean mcderb it's a fucking he's a he's a bona fide damn good defensive coach and they'll find a way like i said they got one of the best nickels in the league they're going to be a nickel all the time you know two backers on the field the problem becomes if somebody gets dinged and if they learn anything from last year people get dinged what happens there um little thin so a lot to adjust to in buffalo including not having the signal caller again uh we also have the j jay mccarthy injury listen
Starting point is 00:27:42 i thought that guy was dealing out there after that first pick the way he came back the throws he made the way he was running around and you know also speaks to the fact that like sometimes in the NFL you don't know when you really fuck yourself up until later and uh i don't know the exact timeline of when he realized his knee was jacked up but uh he played through it whatever happened i'm not sure when it happened but uh he he definitely looked good in his first preseason game and there was a lot to be excited about now this sets us up for one thing and the the vicans have had terrible luck like awful luck they've had real tragedy strike they've had injuries and this is another one of those fan bases that i put them right up there with the Falcons fans.
Starting point is 00:28:25 You know, the only difference is they got none to not nothing to do up there, but it's in Atlanta at least it's like fucking, oh, it's Atlanta. Vikings have been suffering a lot longer. The Vikings and it's cold and the whole thing. So I feel for Vikings fans with all the bad luck they have and they certainly have like a ghost chasing them. But you know, McCarthy gets hurt and then I'm reading Addison's off on a cart like 10 minutes later and somebody else gets hurt and supposedly Addison the injury.
Starting point is 00:28:51 hopefully not as bad as we feared whenever you hear cart but the McCarthy thing sucks because he did look good now the reason i look at this and say they'll probably be okay in the end is because i think for jj this isn't an injury that changes his life as a football player it does give him a year to redshirt you know he's going to be healthy enough where if this had happened in December and he hadn't had a snap yet that sucks it's going to cut into your off season the whole thing earlier the better and for a rookie that's why you brought in sam darnall um so you could play it however you want to play it well now you got one choice and honestly i'm i'm behind sam darnold i'm pulling for the guy and and i think they're going to play some good football because
Starting point is 00:29:39 like i said i've seen this coach make magic happen with guys not as good as as far as i can tell j jay mccarthy or sam darnald um he has has made things happen in the last calendar year that I think are really remarkable. When you look at what happens when the pixie dust wears off Josh Jobs and, you know, like the space dust, like, and Jaron Hall or whoever it is, like week after week. Yeah, Mullins, I think they're going to be fun. So tough, the injuries are tough. I'm going to give out a gold.
Starting point is 00:30:14 Worst things I've seen this week. Gold medal. And this is pretty bad, but I'm coming around on the guy, is Mayo Man. having his own fragrance number eight okay i mean he's he's like diving into it he's he's diving into everything he's had quite the offseason quite okay he also has his own fragrance which i don't believe that it really smells like mayonnaise there's no fucking way maybe this is all a joke and there's not really a fragrance and this is just a viral video or this is a i or something am i supposed to believe this yeah they're really selling this cologne that's what it seems like okay
Starting point is 00:30:51 I don't know, man. He's running through a mayo cloud in the fucking commercial. It's just all, but I respect him for leaning into this. A true psychopath wouldn't be able to lean into the joke. They just wouldn't get it. They'd just be like mayonnaise is awesome. What do you mean? I put mayonnaise everywhere.
Starting point is 00:31:07 This guy actually gets it. And so that's funny. It makes him likable. And I think the Titans are going to be pretty good. We're all considering betting the over on the win total this year. All right? And I'm behind you, Mayo, man. even though this is truly psychotic behavior.
Starting point is 00:31:24 You know who needs a clone is Daniel Jones? Bearded Daniel Jones. Once he shaves, he doesn't get. Bro, that was incredible. That video was incredible. He was like plus 100 Riz. Did you see this video? He wasn't even trying to Riz.
Starting point is 00:31:40 He was just being bearded Daniel Jones. And hey, I know K Adams. I'm not saying she has a crush on Daniel Jones. I would be shocked if she did, but bearded Daniel Jones, you got no choice, girl. You know what I'm saying? Like, he's just too cute.
Starting point is 00:31:58 He's just too manly and cute. He's just too baritone. He's like fucking, if Tom Selleck grew a beard. Seriously, that's what he came across like. Yeah. If he walks up to the huddle, he could call 46 counterpass
Starting point is 00:32:14 with zero time left on the clock from the one yard line and everybody would be like, yeah, ready break that is the stuff that's the stuff of legend right there the transformation between fucking bare-faced daniel jones and daniel jones with facial hair is insane to me good for him and we say this when somebody grows a beard something's going on right like it's not always a good thing when somebody makes a big decision with their hair a la joe burrow i worry about the bangles
Starting point is 00:32:46 this year a little bit because Joe Burrow changed his hair. Whatever Daniel Jones might be ready to have a nervous breakdown up there. But if that's what it took to grow that beard, it's worth it. Keep that thing. Speaking of Mayo, the last thing, Gerard Mayo this week said that players on his team that fight, not only, like when I was on the Patriots, Bill used to send people to the locker room, okay and i told this story to bill the other day because bill's on the inside the NFL set now and we were talking about fighting i don't know how this came up i think it was because ryan clark
Starting point is 00:33:26 told a great story about jeremy shockey fighting and it was on the rehearsal of the show so i'm going to tell it right now but supposedly they got jeremy shockey up there to sing um as a rookie and jeremy shockey was confronted by one of the veteran linebackers and challenged the veteran linebacker to a fight standing on the cafeteria table mid-performance. And when he got down and they actually started fighting, everybody decided simultaneously at Jeremy Schauchy was going to be good at football. So we're all sitting there chopping it up. Bill's talking about his old rules for practice fighting, which was, and I saw this.
Starting point is 00:34:09 I saw Alshan and Malcolm Butler get sent to the locker room. I was like coach me and Martellus Bennett were talking about staging a fight so we could get sent to the locker room because we just didn't want to be at practice so there's a loophole in that line of thinking telling people they're going to get fine for fighting
Starting point is 00:34:27 then it starts being a deterrent now here's where Gerob Mayo Bill Belichick walks so Gerob Mayo could run in this respect because this I'll be like Gandhi out there dude like and I think camp fights are an important part of building a culture on your team. So if I was a coach, I would not punish people for fighting.
Starting point is 00:34:47 But Gerard Mayo, just keep it between the lines, guys. You know, like no Miles Garrett stuff, that sort of thing. I saw that happen the other day, like a practice in college football. They had like CCTV footage of a guy just wailing. It was bad. It was bad. It's bad. Okay? But keep it in between the lines.
Starting point is 00:35:06 You can fight. Gerob Mayo says, if you fight, if you are a veteran, you are going to play the entire preseason game. Oh, that's brilliant. And if you are a rookie or a young guy and you fight, you will not play. At all. Which also tells you something about the importance of reps in preseason.
Starting point is 00:35:29 The value of reps. They are worth their weight in gold. Whether you're a vet, and I've been one where I'm like pissed because they're trying to give me a rest on the wrong day, and I'm like, this is a day where I need the rep. and I'm sitting there in the coach's ear. Or you're a young guy, and you keep running in,
Starting point is 00:35:45 take every scout team rep. You know, every rep counts, and every rep has value in preseason. And listen, I just wanted to leave you with this. If you're a wide receiver on one of these two or three teams, like the second or third team, I'm sending you some strength. I'm sending you some stability.
Starting point is 00:36:05 I'm sending you some love. I'm sending you some hope. Not that you're listening to this podcast because you're probably buried in your notes, or doing extra but the thing that hits me every preseason as I watch these games
Starting point is 00:36:18 if one thing hit me this weekend as I watch those games hits me like a ton of bricks because I've been there trying to do well in preseason trying to show what you got some of these fucking receivers are out there
Starting point is 00:36:32 with twos and threes catching balls from broken jugs machines like legitimately glitchy jugs machines the ball placement is all over the place the twos and the threes and the threes I get it. I'm not trying to belittle backup quarterbacks. What I am saying is when you watch a backup play, don't you appreciate the greatness of a starting quarterback in the NFL right now?
Starting point is 00:36:51 And I'm talking about guys that I love and guys that I'm not crazy about. They're all amazing. And when you watch backups play and you watch these poor fucking wide receivers who might be undrafted rookies or maybe a guy that last year didn't do the most with his opportunities, his reps in camp, and he was a one, like a Chase Clayby. pool type, you know, go back a couple years, or a guy that, you know, whoever you are, if you ended up on the twos or the threes, your chances of making a team, it's just compoundingly low, you know, because you're catching the ball from guys who can't put it where you want it. It's going to affect your performance.
Starting point is 00:37:32 And you're also being compared to the guys who are catching the ball from the starting quarterback. You know, so if you're on the bubble trying to make that starting group or you're trying to be third wide receiver and some other and you get a little daylight between you and the guy in front of you he might never leave the field in camp and i just look at these backup wide receivers and i just want to send you guys some love because it looks fucking hard being you in camp i mean it just hits me every training camp when i played i maybe i should have stopped by their little corner of the locker and been like hey hang in there guys but i never thought about it like that and i feel for those guys so Some love to the to the reserve receivers who are trying to make make a team right now.
Starting point is 00:38:15 Say a prayer for him. Read. Yo. Couldn't leave without telling you this. I'm going to I'm going to omit somebody's name from this headline. Okay. Blank to play John Madden in David O. Russell directed biopic or biopic. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:34 Whatever it is. So I'm guessing who is playing John Madden? Yeah. Okay. What's his name? He played Big Dan in the O'Brother Where Art Thou? What's that guy's name? Big Dan and O'Brien where art thou?
Starting point is 00:38:55 Honestly, never seen the movie front to back. Oh, really? It's a good one. I liked it. I mean, obviously it was the Odyssey. I don't like musicals. Is that what it was? It was about the Odyssey?
Starting point is 00:39:05 It's like a play on being the Odyssey just set in the South. Okay. That actor's name is John. What happens in the Iliad? John Goodman. The Iliad. That's like the, isn't that the trip back? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:39:26 Yeah, something like that. I don't know. Been there. I would say, John. You're never going to guess it. Somebody I really like. Is this? is it going to take like a lot of prosthetic in in fat suit or well i don't know what did you
Starting point is 00:39:44 what did you just say wow no uh no offense to the boom uh you know uh what's his name like like does he look like john fucking do you remember the guy that used to be like the heartthrob everybody wanted to have sex with and he was in like national treasure nick are we talking about no i'm talking about um justin bartha who's the guy that was that was in wail whale he you talk oh brenden fraser yeah bernan fraser yeah brenn fraser used to be able to fuck everybody yeah oh yeah the mummy brandon fraser he didn't need a prosthetic right that was like legit yeah yeah so people do you know um what's his name i just can't remember the damn you got his name right now it's one of the best actors ever played in batman and um um george clutty michael
Starting point is 00:40:39 screams of people on set. Oh, oh. Christian, Christian Bale. He got fat. Yeah. And he got skinny. Matthew McConaughey got skinny. All right.
Starting point is 00:40:51 So this guy might need a fat suit, might not. Okay. So is Brendan Fraser or no. No. Oh, no, no. It's not Brendan Frazier. What I'm trying to tell you is things can be done. People can get bigger.
Starting point is 00:41:02 People can get smaller. Got it. The guy in the machinist. Look what happened to him. Yep. give me a age range he's got to be in his 50s if not almost 60s one of my favorite actors favorite actors 50s 60s um can you give me a movie that's been in it's gonna give it away probably don't all right don't is there one is there a movie or a show that won't give it away well you are
Starting point is 00:41:32 truffle druffle truffle movie about a pig is he american he's american he's american he's american lives in Las Vegas I believe oh Mark Wahlberg no he does he does now Mark Wahlberg's not playing John Madden I would fucking riot I would be
Starting point is 00:41:53 I would be chucking that chair through a public's window dude I would fucking run out in the street there's no public's here I'd have to settle for CVS but I would I would yeah okay lives in Las Vegas 50s 60s he's a big
Starting point is 00:42:09 collector. Nick Cage? Yep. Really? Nicholas. He is one of your favorites. That's wild. So David O. Russell. Yeah. Movies. Because I hope he doesn't fuck this one up. Amsterdam, Joy, excellent American hustle. That's a great one. Silver linings. I know this guy, the fighter. Yeah. Three Kings. Yes, dude. Three Kings.
Starting point is 00:42:34 It's a great movie. This is going to be good. Holy shit. Nicholas Cage. Hey, you missed Anchorman The Legend of Ron Burgundy. That's in his, he was an executive producer on that thing. Anyway, yeah, it's going to be sick. He has to have a killer accent, like a killer imitation.
Starting point is 00:42:53 Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what it is. Yep. Because whoever's, they've got to be able to sound just like John Madden. I can imagine him doing that. Yep.
Starting point is 00:43:01 This is going to be his best role yet. Unbelievable, dude. Unbelievable. We have a chance to get him on the show. Boom. we have a chance to get them on the show yeah because they're going to want to promote this right they want to promote things and they know when they think about like football podcast there's at least g lp 7 to 38 of them that you should consider yeah so we have one in 37 38 holy shit dude we get nick cage i play madden a lot we hey mad in the video game
Starting point is 00:43:31 yeah you talk to them all the time right yeah yeah they just sent us some we're about to yeah check out Greenlight on Twitter. We're about to give away some Madden codes. So you have a shot. You got to follow along. Follow us on Twitter and Instagram and YouTube to be able to win these codes. But yeah, the close relationship we have with Madden. Let's get a shot at Nick Cage.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Madden hook us up with Nicholas Cage. And I did get the new game. I love it. I feel like the passing game is a little bit more realistic where, you know, you can layer, you can layer balls between zones. D.Bs are not all like Daryl Green. you know there's not people just catching it on the back of their helmet it's a little bit easier that way you got a little bit more control over the players i tried ncaa i don't like it as much i'm not trying to be
Starting point is 00:44:17 contrarian i just i'm so into madden got to pick one game played one nca game beat my son 100 and nothing with biff pogey's charlotte 49ers he was the missou tigers scored 42 points in the fourth quarter it wasn't like i had to let up to score 100 i had to put my fucking foot on the accelerator it was one of those things where my son he has like he's like me he he once he like he he's addictive personality like he wants to play the game as much as possible every day he asked me if we can play madden so he's like i put in nca he sees the pageantry he sees like the menu and i'm like we're playing it after dinner he's like oh my god i'm so excited he's like running around and after dinner he's like can we play can we play can we play i'm like so you know the whole thing where
Starting point is 00:45:04 if your kid there's a school of thought that if you catch your kid smoking a cigarette you're like oh you like cigarettes here's a whole pack yeah polish the whole pack off this was my like have the whole pack experience for him who was like if you like the game i'm going to beat you 100 to nothing and i'm just going to make you hate it and then you'll never ask me to play it again so i played one game nca then i got online some guy kicked my ass i i barely understand the playbooks there's fucking all of Mickey Mouse plays. Yes, it looks cool as shit, but I got shit to do. I got Madden to play, and it's actually an even better game.
Starting point is 00:45:43 Waylon's going to become an elite gamer in 2035, and they're going to write stories and everything about him. And he'll be like, I played college football with my dad. He beat me 100 to nothing. And ever since that day, I was not going to let up on anyone. That's going to be his Michael Jordan getting up from JV story when he's like ninja or something at some point. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:03 Here's Whalen Long, his dad in 2024, beat him 100 to nothing, and here he is. It's a great lesson. You shouldn't let your kids win at everything. The world is not going to let them win at everything. Block that shot into the fourth row. Yes, my kid is a rich kid. He's going to go to a good school, and he's going to be soft in that respect. But his dad's going to whoop his ass at everything humanly possible until I'm too old to do it.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Like, I'm going to be giving him that work on sports fields across the county. basketball courts. I mean, when I have a chance to rub his nose in a little bit, I do it too, because that's what the world does. If he picks up a sport that you've never played before, maybe Frisbee golf, will you practice on your own to keep up with him? Oh, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:46:53 There's some sports that I'm not going to care he's better. Right, right, right. But, you know, like the big four, you know, like the big four, I mean, if he wants to do hockey, I'm not going to do that. But like basketball, baseball, football, running in a straight line, jumping, things like that. Like definitely combat. Hey, hand-to-hand combat. You don't want your son to get so big and strong that, you know.
Starting point is 00:47:19 So anyways, I'm actually mostly worried about my daughter who's 98th percentile in size. Because I can't, you know, something I can do about that. Yeah. You know, if she, if she ends up like Kyle, I got no shot. Size. Size is, it doesn't matter. Anyways, here's Jim Kelly. Hey, y'all.
Starting point is 00:47:46 Greenlight has official merch, like this hat right here, like the one on my head, this dad hat. Love this hat. I'm not even a dad hat guy, but this thing fits great. This, this hat right here fits great. We've got hoodies. We've got. By the way, this hoodie's like super comfy.
Starting point is 00:48:06 I mean, it's like soft, plush. It's not the type of hoodie that's going to get stiff with one wash. And the shirts, too, because I'm a big comfort guy, okay? You got like this white shirt here. You got the shirt with the logo, the Abbey Road looking logo, with Dr. Fax smoking presumably a blunt, Kyle carrying Cowboy Reed, making driveling a basketball, which I've never seen him actually do.
Starting point is 00:48:31 And me carrying a football. And then you've got the black shirt here too with the logo. So stickers, hit the link in the description in the video, below the video, actually, and make sure to tag us on social media showing off your green light merch. It's quality, quality threads here, okay? Wouldn't do it any other way. Jim, I appreciate you, man. I appreciate you.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Where are we, first off? Tell people where we are. We are at Ilio de Palo's Italian restaurant. and this is where, to be honest with you, after our home games, a lot of the players, a lot of them would come over here with their families. They would have dinner, eat and everything, and then right from here, they would go to my house for the party afterwards. Oh, hell, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:17 And that was always fun, but they've been, they've been part of the Bill's team for many, many years. They take care of the players. They take care of the coaches. And it's just an amazing, great, great family. Shout out to Ilyos. People are amazing. This town is amazing. Oh, you know, that's why I'm still here.
Starting point is 00:49:36 I know. People are like, what are you still doing in Buffalo? I said, I take it you haven't been there or you haven't been there for a while because the people here are unbelievable. I mean, it's so blue collar and everybody's downed earth, but that's how I grew up. Yeah. I mean, I grew up with family of six boys. My dad was a steel worker.
Starting point is 00:49:54 He worked in the mills. And that was something I get used to. And I still get used to. Plus, I'm a country boy. I mean, I love the woods, and I have my lodge down, you know, south towards Pennsylvania and in a ski resort, even though I don't ski. It's in ski resort country. And it's awesome. I'm going to come turkey hunting with you.
Starting point is 00:50:18 I love it. You can do the mouth call. No, no, no, no nothing necessary. You just. I used to be a lot better until I had my whole job replaced. Now I can't do certain calls anymore. But that sounded pretty good. I feel like somebody had some slate in here.
Starting point is 00:50:35 Man, that's how to be. Hey, but no, I appreciate you, man. You know, like, I've known you a while, you know, with my dad and everything. And you just were one of those guys and have always been one of those guys that treats. I mean, I've never seen you treat somebody poorly. Like, you just treat everybody like the same. You're down to earth. I mean, I'm sure you hear that a lot, but I appreciate you, man.
Starting point is 00:50:56 It's how it brought up. Yeah. My dad was a military man. when my mother, she busted her butt, raising six boys. And, but that's how I was brought up. I remember the time when I was in Pump, Pass, and kick when I was 10 years old, I went to a Three River Stadium where Steelers used to play. And Terry Bradshaw and Elsie Greenwood were the celebrities there and signed autographs for everybody.
Starting point is 00:51:22 And I got one from Elsie Greenwood. My dad looked at and he said, who's that? I told me, said, son, if you ever become somebody, he said, right so kids can read your signature. Yeah. He said, be proud of who you are and be proud of your name. And ever since that, I started practicing, and here I am today. It's worth at least 20, 25 cents.
Starting point is 00:51:42 Moving up. It's moving up now. I don't know, man. I don't know about that. But your name goes a long way here. And, I mean, it's funny as we sit here and I'm like, what an amazing town. And you're like, that's why I've never left to think that they told me, and I didn't know this about you, that you didn't want to play here in the
Starting point is 00:51:59 be giving. Not even close. And I did. I mean, I was drafted by the bills in first round. And I'm like, you got to be kidding me. And that's when the USFL came into existence.
Starting point is 00:52:10 And I decided to put Buffalo on hold. I went to Houston for two years. And then, of course, our team merged in 1986 with the New Jersey generals. Hershey Walker was running back. Donald Trump was our owner. Yeah, yeah. And unfortunately, that league folded.
Starting point is 00:52:32 And to be honest, one of the best decisions I ever made in my life was becoming a Buffalo Bill because when we were, my agents were negotiating going into 86 season, now the USF is gone. Where do you want to play? I wanted to either play in Pittsburgh or play in L.A. I was a big Raiders fan and Steeler fan growing up. And Ralph Wilson, the owner at times says, you don't play for the Buffalo Bills, you're not going to play. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:52:57 So I had no choice. And thank God that's how it worked up because I'm still here. My wife's from here. Two beautiful daughters, my son in heaven. And I'm loving it. Well, they love you here, man. It feels like you're a part of the fabric. And like you walk through here.
Starting point is 00:53:11 It's like you're a regular guy. You know what I mean? Like they've seen you enough that you stick around and you, is it fun being a fan of the team? Yes, I guess. I mean, I've always been, you know, you played here. You pull for them. I have so many things going on in my life.
Starting point is 00:53:28 now that even though maybe not quite as the way it used to be, because of course, being a player, and then of course, I am still a fan. I'm pull for them. I'm there. I'm screaming. I'm yelling at the TV. My daughters decide to go to another room because I'm screaming at the TV. But that's just part of it.
Starting point is 00:53:50 I love it. I love it. Yeah. So you prefer watching at home? Yeah, my recliner. Yep, with a nice bottle of wine beside me of cold beer. I do. I mean, I enjoy still going to the games, but I'm at that age right now where I just don't want to be bothered by anybody. I just want to sit on my ice recliner I have, my remote
Starting point is 00:54:12 control so I can rewind and say, what the heck was you looking at on that? Not Josh, of course. Yeah, not Josh. No, no, it's a backup. Now, preseason. Dude, I just got done to interview with Josh. And I think it's so cool that you guys are, that you're here. You know what I mean? Like, you're here and you know him and you guys run into each other because like he could use you. You know, like you've seen it all. I don't bother them like probably a lot of people do. I get it. I understand.
Starting point is 00:54:43 And I always told him, I said, Josh, if you ever want to sit down and talk, if I want to go to lunch and have a beer and talk about a game or even before, just let me know. Just give me a call. If I'm here, I'm there for you. So we haven't done that yet. Yeah. We haven't had a lot of conversation, but I just was with him, you know, about a month and a month and a half ago. We talked about something else off the side, but he's such a good dude, and he does so much
Starting point is 00:55:06 for this community, and he's such a heck of a quarterback. He's amazing. He is. And I think the thing that's unfair to him is he gets compared to my homes. And I think, I don't think there's that much of a delta between the two guys, but, but it's tough being in his conference, you know? It's just one, one guy in the way. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:55:26 Oh, I did it. I mean, I look at what our team is today, and I look at what we have to do to get over with the hump. Yeah. And you look at the AFC now with all the quarterbacks that they have. Yes. Wow. I mean, that's a lot.
Starting point is 00:55:43 I mean, back of my day, the AFC also had a bunch of great quarterbacks. I mean, Marino, L.A, Bernie Kozar, Boomer of Sison, Water Moon. I mean, I could go on and on. There's so many quarterbacks. But now, same one. wing. And the biggest key for me, the way I look at is, you know, we need to get a pass rush, or these are going to be shootouts every week. Exactly, exactly. And the pass rush hopefully comes on this year. I hope, I hope Vaughn Miller comes around again. I mean, what's just his 15th year?
Starting point is 00:56:12 Yeah, he's getting older and it's tough coming off an injury, especially when you get older. I mean, y'all is still hope and pray that he had become some sort of what he used to be. Yeah. But he gives it his all, but we need other guys to step up. And I hope. that our defense can do what we need them to do and put some pressure on the quarterback and get them to throw up before they're ready. Yeah, Josh, we just were sitting down with them, like I said, and I said, I was coming to hang out with you. And obviously, the remarks were glowing.
Starting point is 00:56:41 Like, he just loves you. You can see it. And just so much respect. But he said that if you ask Jim, he'd probably tell you I'm not a great textor. I'm not great with the phone. We won't go there. Kids, that's all they do. phones in her hands all the time. Come on, man. Just fucking text
Starting point is 00:57:00 back. Oh, my God. No, I said, I know some people like you, Josh. And then I asked him, I said, do you think you could, if you and Jim sat down drinking beers, who do you think comes out on top? And he said, Jim now or Jim that? He goes, I think Jim and his prime's got me. He's down. There's no doubt. He wouldn't even be able to get the same room. But of course, I'm always going against my brothers. I got five brothers. I know. They keep you sharp.
Starting point is 00:57:31 Yeah. And as a matter of fact, my five brothers are here this weekend for my golf tournament. When you invited you died here, but I guess you're, uh, you know, your bottle is a Lampkin. I'm coming next year. I'm going to win the fucking tournament. I'm going to get that buffalo looking trophy. Oh, you need a buffalo in your. And it's funny thing is you bring that up because it's interesting.
Starting point is 00:57:51 Because when we play in the AFC championship game against your dad. I remember going through the game, and he's like, slow this shit down. And I'm like, and Ken Hurdy goes, speed it up, speed it up. That's what he told me. I said, hey, I'm interviewing Jim, and he sent me this text. He's like, they claim that I told them to slow the K-gun offense down, but I don't remember saying that. Of course he doesn't.
Starting point is 00:58:13 He was days because y'all were running a player. He was so tired, and so was everybody with playing. She's like, man, throw this shit down. Yeah. And Ken Hurd said, speed up, speed up. And, of course, your dad was pretty much all the time full go. So we needed to go in the know how to just get him tires. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:32 How foreign was that when you guys ran that offense? Like, what was the beginning of the idea that led to that? I think it was a Cleveland Browns game. We, in a playoff game at Cleveland, 1989, I think. And we ran to second half and we just boom, boom, boom, boom, took it. down to field a bunch of time. So going into the following year, they decided not right away, but spend a little time doing it. And the best part about it was there were plays that were sent in that I really didn't like and didn't want to run. So I would just change it anyways. And then I started
Starting point is 00:59:13 and then when you go to the two-minute drill, I'd call all the plays. And it got to a point where we're moving it down and field so quick that Marf says, hey, go with it. So his job security was online because he said, take it. That, yeah, that part about it. Without doubt. And Ted Marshall Broda was my coordinator. And Frank Reich, of course, was my backup. And the help that I had in the week leading up to the game,
Starting point is 00:59:40 help me when I was in the game. Because, I mean, just think about this. You're calling your own play. So, you know, first down, 10, you go to complete pass. All of a sudden, 40 yards, the second six. You and your mind got, okay, I've got to put everybody in the right for a major. You got to do the pass protection. You got to do the play, and then you've got to do the snap count.
Starting point is 00:59:59 You got to do all this within 10 seconds. Give it to me. Give it to me. Give me like, we just lined up. Take me through your thought process and how many words you have to say to get everybody on the same. Here we go. So boom, put your pass. I go, okay, four, four, four. And I would get everybody lined up.
Starting point is 01:00:15 That's four meant position. Three receivers to the right, X on the left. I'd say, Kyle, Kyle, Kyle, 91, double switch. 91 double switch. Everybody would know the play. And then the last thing I would say would be the Snapcom. No one, no, no one, Louisville, Louisville. And I would say all these things, but they always knew what I was doing.
Starting point is 01:00:35 And it was, I remember one time we're playing at New England. Fred Smurridge just traded to the Patriots. And he was on, and he thought he knew everything. Love Fred to death. From your team. Yeah. And of course, they bring him in the building. Of course.
Starting point is 01:00:50 Tell me everything. Exactly. He's nose guard. And so we got a crucial third dollar. And I said, guys, listen, I'm going to come up. I'm going to say no, I'm going to say no, I'm going to say a bunch of times. Know that we're going on the third snap. I get up her and I, you know, get plays.
Starting point is 01:01:08 And I go, no, no, no, no. Fred thinks this second. I go, hot, man, he's behind me. No, Fred, get on your own side of the ball. You mother, blah, blah, blah. That's so awesome. This is good. Now, I'm retired.
Starting point is 01:01:21 you're retired. It's just two guys. You're not giving any secrets away. But like, why was Noah two? Was it two syllables? Or was it? You know how every team comes up with the one and two?
Starting point is 01:01:33 I don't remember the Noah. I remember Louisville. Will Wolford. Okay. It was number 73. Okay. And that was on a third. Three.
Starting point is 01:01:40 Zeta was, I think it was Kent Hall. Zeta was a nickname that I don't, I mean, of course, this was 30 some years ago. I'm trying to remember that. There's a statute of limitations. But yeah, we did all that.
Starting point is 01:01:53 And we changed it up every once in a while. We changed it to make sure that teams we played like a Dolphins or Patriots or something like that. That we changed it up a little bit just so they weren't getting used to or have somebody to tell them what it is. Was there a bigger snap jumper than Howie Long? Yeah. One other one, Joe Cleco. Oh, Cleco. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:02:15 Cleco tells this story, too. And it just so, it's so him. So Joe. he said yeah we got down we moved ball down the field with the first and go with the one yard line he looked and said you know what this is a good time to jump off side yeah fuck six inches what are you do moved the ball up six inches he jumped off sides he jacked me up and of course you know he looks and said how'd that feel jimbo he didn't penalized six inches okay first and go with the footline yeah oh boy but Joe still he's still awesome I'm glad he's in a hall thing I think it was
Starting point is 01:02:49 Yeah, it's amazing. It seems like great guy. My dad, I can remember being at a friend's house for a sleepover, and I know I'm supposed to be watching my dad on TV. I may be like, is 91? Was this a game in the snow? The game, 90. I'm five years old.
Starting point is 01:03:05 So I don't know much, but I'm turning on TV in between playing NHL video game on Sega. And every time I turn on the TV, this dude was jumping off sides. He jumped off sides five times in that game. And the thing is, he wanted. to get to me. He wanted him and everybody else and Matt Millen says the story whether it's true or not Matt said, yeah, we came in
Starting point is 01:03:27 what was the other defensive at Townsend? Townsend, Greg Townsend. He said, I would have knocked that shit out of the second half. And Matt Miller said, don't touch him, don't piss them off anymore he already is. That's so funny. Who were the guys who were scary? Defensive line, really?
Starting point is 01:03:46 Andre Tippett was I mean, none of them were scary. I could care less. I mean, I had five brothers. I had people say, who are the toughest ones you ever played? You had two of them are my brothers. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:57 But Andre Tippett was unbelievable. Your dad, of course. Tippett was a beast. Unbelievable. Joe Cleco, of course. Neil Smith. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:06 And Thomas. Yeah, there's, that's a, that's a handful. But there's never the word, never, never, never was scared. And then you'd be. Haley wouldn't scare you a little bit, like, just running into Charles Haley. He said he was a different bird. He was a goofball.
Starting point is 01:04:19 He was a good goofball. So you still like, this is the one thing I've talked to my dad about. It felt like it felt like back in the day there was an aura of we don't talk to each other, right, after the game or between the game or whatever. Like, we're not tight. And now it's like everybody's trading jerseys, everybody's buddies, social media, the whole thing. do you think that thing's overblown? Because when I watched the last dance, I know it's basketball, the epitome of fuck everybody else above my teammates is Michael Jordan.
Starting point is 01:04:53 And then I found out he's playing golf with Danny Age during the fine, like during the Eastern Conference finals. Yeah. I didn't know that. Yeah. So and I came up to that. I said, I thought you said you guys were different back in the day. And my dad's told me a story where Cedric Hartman, you remember him? Yep.
Starting point is 01:05:10 was roommates, I guess, with, who's the guy, Joe Green? Me and Joe. Dad's favorite player growing up. So Cedric hosted and lived with my dad and hosted Joe for dinner a night before game. And I'm like, you mean to tell me you were having dinner with people from the other team in your house the night before the game? That's fucking wild. There's no way I would have done that. But after games were over, you know, like me and Dan, we'd always talk.
Starting point is 01:05:38 would walk in together, whether it was John, Dan, or whoever it was, Boomer. We're all good. I mean, that was back in the day of the quarterback club. Quarterback club, right? And I mean, Brian Nelson's here with us, and he knows about the quarterback club. But we got together,
Starting point is 01:05:56 but it was back when we were all, most of us single. We were, you come to my golf tournament, I'll go to yours and everybody had golf tournament. And the thing is, we spent so much time together. We grew on each other. We loved it. And we still are a really good bud, so it's still a good time.
Starting point is 01:06:14 I love it. Who was a guy you had like an unlikely friendship with on another team? Not a good friend. No, unlikely that people would be surprised. I don't know because we all were so tight. The quarterbacks? Yeah, yeah. It was like for y'all, that was the big, like now you can get at somebody on the phone or social media or trade jerseys.
Starting point is 01:06:34 But back in the day, it felt like Pro Bowl and quarterback clubs. Yeah, you would go there. And the thing is there was no social media. Right. Thank God. Yeah, right. I'm sure your dad would say the same thing. Yeah, exactly. But yeah, we all got along. It's weird. When you played, you wanted to rip their head off. But afterwards, come best friend to go have a beer, good, you know, bourbon and on rocks and we'll have a little fun just like you're doing right now. That's what we're doing, man. No, but I feel like playing in Buffalo and at that time made it even better. better so you could just like drama in the building stayed in-house you guys worked it out probably whereas now like you can't have a disagreement or something without people knowing about it's like
Starting point is 01:07:21 every you know what I mean what's totally and what's what bumps out you more now is you go in no place you want to have a beer with your buddy or do a shot with your buddy you got everybody with their cameras on video and everything it's like really come on now let's enjoy it for a little bit but I've come to the conclusion, which I've done many years ago, but when you go out, that's what it is. You should be blessed that people still want your autograph, feel people want to talk to you. I get that,
Starting point is 01:07:49 but sometimes you want to be just like everybody else and do what you want to do and not have to worry about people. Well, I always think about, like, it being cool to play in the 80s because after the game, like, you know, they were telling me you had your pub that you guys like to go to and stuff and maybe Ilios and that sort of thing, but like it would be you and the guys. and some fans, but it was like, it was between everybody that was in the bar.
Starting point is 01:08:11 Yeah, that's, and to be honest with you, one of the main reasons I started having parties at my house is guys were going out, but they were driving downtown. And sometimes they would drive back when, um, when they shouldn't have. And I said, I got to do is keep it around, run the home. You're like the dad. Pardon me? You were like the dad. Yeah, without, let me get those keys.
Starting point is 01:08:32 Yep. Well, I didn't go that far, but yeah, um, usually people have. family members that were driving into my house. Yeah. It was, it was awesome. I mean, because I saw what everybody was doing. I thought it would be the best thing to do is to bring everybody together. And it wasn't just for me and my teammates. It was, yeah, my teammates, but their families, say their mom and dad, their brothers and sisters come in. They come in. They bring them over. Yeah. And we'd have over 100 people in my basement, every single home game, which was awesome. Well, that's the part of it that's social. I think the NFL's changed a lot.
Starting point is 01:09:06 lot too, like physically. And I wonder what you think the biggest difference is. Like, the size of the guys obviously different maybe from when you got in in the USFL in the beginning, like these alignment now are huge. But also the way the schedule of a year goes. And my dad used to tell me, hey, y'all fucking came to camp to get in shape. You know, like guys were. That's funny.
Starting point is 01:09:27 You said, that's one more favorite quote. If you come to, you said, don't ever come to camp to get your shape. You come to camp in shape. That was his favorite. That's why he said, slow it down because he wasn't in shape. He was in shape. Champ, y'all motherfuckers were in shape.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Probably by that time he's a little tired because that was near the end. And they did very well. We did too because we usually were playing five preseason games. Right. Because we were playing overseas. We were a couple games overseas. We were in Canada. So there was a lot of things that we did.
Starting point is 01:09:57 But I did it. And the thing is, I learned that at an early age of that, you know, to work out that, you know, when I was, going off to college. My high school football coach, Terry Henry says, if you plan on going or you think you're going to start, you better start working because the other guys are going there too, their numbers were retired.
Starting point is 01:10:16 They were all state. It's not like they were a third string. Everybody's going to college on the same team. They were the best at their position when they played in their town and in their state. And you guys' schedule was way different. I mean, you know, like the two of days were how long? We got sometimes three days. I mean, there was a walk-through one.
Starting point is 01:10:35 them but two days, but you have to remember, we ran to know how to, we ran it in practice. So I knew that our practices were probably only about an hour and a half long. And the best part of about this is, is in between practices. Yeah. Well, I wouldn't do so much because I was never a real big golfer. Bruce and I were golf. And we're going, we're a training camp. These guys are going to play nine holes.
Starting point is 01:10:59 When you squeeze 18 in, we'll do it. But, yeah, but that's just the way it was. but Marv knew that when we were on the field, we were 100% committed to doing what we're supposed to do. So he even said afterwards that we were one of the best practice teams he's ever been around because we stayed focused on what we had to do. And then from there, we do what we had to do. Have fun and then show up and get ready to work.
Starting point is 01:11:25 And sometimes, you know, Bungi out a little bit. People, sometimes even back then weren't anything said to die. Yeah, you guys didn't want to shoot because you parted too much. didn't know why we parted? Because we won. And the reason we did is because we kept winning. And we were a superstitious team. If we were doing something the week before,
Starting point is 01:11:44 if we went out on a Thursday or a Friday, we kicked back that week, we'd go back and do the exact same thing the following. So we did whatever we did the following week to keep doing. We even tried that one time when we played the Redskins in Super Bowl. Yeah. They shipped our tables, our chairs for Frank Drey tonight, out to Washington.
Starting point is 01:12:03 And it didn't help. Hey, was the Super Bowl? Like, I played in a Super Bowl. You played in a few Super Bowls, and, you know, you were the quarterback of the team. Like, did you have to keep tabs on guys to make sure they didn't, like, wind up missing midweek in New Orleans or something? No, because they understood how important the game was. Yeah, we had fun at all the Super Bowl. We changed up each and every year that would win and nothing ever worked.
Starting point is 01:12:32 But you know what? I never had to worry about Bruce or Thurman or any of those guys. When it came Sunday, they were going to be ready to play. Whether they were hungover or not, I don't know. But, no, just kidding. Well, I mean, you know, we have guys, and I wasn't one of them because towards the end of my career, I was like, you know what? I got to slow down on the drinking, in season, and that's where you're getting old.
Starting point is 01:12:54 And, you know, you got your young guys that'll be out on a Friday night. And some guys can just go out and show up. And it looks like they've been well rested for the last week. I can, I can, I get that. I can honestly say I never went out partying the night before a game. There's so many people. Know what, know what it was? I swear to you.
Starting point is 01:13:12 So it was Saturday night, my brother Ray, who back in the day looked like me a lot. So he would come in and, you know, he'd come across the border and say, Hey, Jim, can we get your autograph? And just so you can get across the border, he would sign autographs. And he'd go to bars. And he'd get all his free drinks because everybody thought he was me. And then one time, I got to tell it.
Starting point is 01:13:34 This is a good one of the Super Bowl. The guy came in with a Buffalo Bill's leather jacket on, and he went up to my brother, Ray. And he said, Jim, would you sign my jacket? My brother's like, man, I'm not your, I'm not Jim. He said, oh, come on, man, don't do this. Come on. And the guy bothered him so much, he goes, turn around all the side of the damn thing.
Starting point is 01:13:53 So he turned around. He wrote Jim Kelly put G. G. Tell it. And he goes, there. The guy goes, well, was that hard? He goes, no. So he walks away, Ray tells him, he said, let's get the hell out.
Starting point is 01:14:03 out of here. Hey, how cool is it, though, that you and your brothers are still brothers? We are the closest family you can possibly get me and my five brothers. We get long. They never were jealous of me. I've taken them to over 30 Super Bowls. As your dad, he knows that. My high school football coach, I've taken him to 32 Super Bowls.
Starting point is 01:14:29 But I love them. They never were jealous. Never asked me for anything. and I love them to death. And the interesting thing is all my sister-in-law to get along too. Oh, really? Which is pretty cool. All brothers and all sister-laws all get-alone.
Starting point is 01:14:43 So, yeah, I am so blessed because I remember when I needed their help when I was, you know, during the summer in college, I'd come to Richmond, Virginia. That's where they lived a couple of them. And they would take care of me, and I would work out. And they would come and work out with me. and of course I had my jobs too doing it, but they've worked out with me every single day. Who helps you the most get through the tough years and tough moments?
Starting point is 01:15:11 Well, I have to say my brothers, but my high school football coach, Terry Henry. He is a man that I still love to death. He helped me become the man I am. Even though my father was there every day pushing us, but he's the one that really set me straight because where I came from, I was the best in basketball, football, all sports. He's one of the guys said, when you go off the college, just remember one thing,
Starting point is 01:15:39 the same guys, as I stated before, these guys are the best of their position. If you want to get that starting job, you've got to work at it. And, of course, I work harder than anybody. But, you know, of course, I finally got my starting position after beating Penn State as a freshman in Penn State when coach snow and burger told me four hours before the game that i was starting man first thing i did was i excuse myself and i went and threw up but i hear josh peeps before oh it was i i i did that for every high school game yeah yeah i and i say this because i know you've been asked a million times about it i think you guys are one of the best teams ever i really do um i just got tremendous
Starting point is 01:16:25 respect for a team that can get there that many times and you know it's kind of crazy that you're only measured by the one thing. But I do feel like football fans respect the fuck out of you. And the thing is, the further worry, when you are removed from those games, the more people realize what we accomplished. Even though back in the day, you know, after losing three, people were like, oh, no, not to Buffalo bills again. And our motto was, let's piss everybody off.
Starting point is 01:16:51 Let's go back for four. And we did. Even though we didn't win the camaraderie, we had in that locker room, the closest that we had, we had. We would never been able to do that if we didn't have great leaders, not only in our locker room, but as a head coach of Mark Levy. He was amazing. He knew how to handle us.
Starting point is 01:17:08 He knew what strength to pull. And, of course, we knew how much we respected him. And even though we didn't win any, you know what? It sucks. Of course, I would love to have that feeling like your dad has had. And you've got you've had. But for me, it's luck. Like, I'm in the right place, right time.
Starting point is 01:17:26 You're the quarterback of the bills. You got them there four times. And a kick or miss a kick, and there's a bunch of other things as you know that happened in football games. Like, I'm 39. You're a fucking Hall of Famer. But from this 39-year-old to this 64-year-old Hall of Famer, I got to tell you, I never thought, oh, they weren't good enough.
Starting point is 01:17:45 It's just I know how hard it is. One play, you won't know. It takes everything breaking right. Without doubt. And that's one of the things I say is like one or two plays during a torso of ball game, not five or six. Five or six, you're not going to win. but one or two players going towards a ball game can change the outcome or totally change the flow of the game.
Starting point is 01:18:05 A couple of the games that is exactly what happened to us. But you know what? I don't sit here and worry about it or think about it anymore. I don't. The only time I really ever think about is run Super Bowl when you're playing it on TV and I change the channel or when I go. But it's never gotten to a point where I sit there and cry over because it is what it is. I've never still have not watched one. of the Super Bowls I played.
Starting point is 01:18:29 Really? No. I said I was going to watch it with my son someday. And unfortunately, he's in heaven. So I never got that chance. And, uh, uh, yeah. You mentioned, you mentioned your son, um, and just everything you've been through, man. I, like, you are truly not blowing smoke.
Starting point is 01:18:46 One of these people that like, I don't know, it's because you're Irish. Like my dad alluded to him on FaceTime a minute ago or like what it is, but like you, he said this motherfucker's hard to kill. And, and, and I just think you're hard to. get down. Like you don't, you don't seem to me, and I know people privately might get sad every once in while about something, but like you have handled everything with it with your chin high. Yeah. Where does that come from? Well, early on, it came from, you know, my brothers were to stand yelling at me to get up. Don't let them know they hurt you. And I got from there. But after I've been through, you know,
Starting point is 01:19:22 all this stuff with my son and then all this stuff, you know, with my battle with cancer, it's a good Lord. I'm huge. Christian now. It took me a while to realize that I'm not going anywhere unless I changed my life. Because, yeah, I was one of those guys that I love to have fun. And I still do, but it's different fun now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:42 And I have a very forgiving wife. And I have two beautiful daughters. And you know what? I just thank God every day. But now I understand why he is, why he put me through all that early on in my life. is to prepare me for what I'm doing now. I'm traveling to country speaking. And I've been very blessed me.
Starting point is 01:20:02 And my motto, now is I might have lost four Super Bowls, but I kicked cancer's ass four times. And that speech at the Espies, man. Yeah. That was amazing. I was really, I was really moved by that. And knowing you, man, I mean,
Starting point is 01:20:15 you put yourself in your shoes and you're thinking, hey, you know, like, what if I got this news? Like, how would I react? And I look at you. And I wonder if there was more. more panic than you let on? To be honest, I never let me bother me.
Starting point is 01:20:32 Now, I swear to you, I am a good thing of, good Lord decides tomorrow's my day. I'm going out with a smile on my face. There's no doubt about it. He's the only one knows our day. So for me, I enjoyed life. What I'm doing now, I travel. I'm able to go, still go hunting and fishing and hiking,
Starting point is 01:20:48 all that stuff, which I still love to do. Not too much the hiking party anymore. But other than that, everything so far is I'm very blessed. I have two beautiful daughters. One is married to a big, big man. He's 6264, you know,
Starting point is 01:21:06 Milwaukee Brewers draft pick, baseball. And, but I am blessed to have the wife that I have in a family and living here in Buffalo. I'm, I can't say any more about it because I'm truly blessed. You've led an amazing life. I mean, really?
Starting point is 01:21:20 I mean, an amazing life. You think about it. the one thing I want to ask you about the Super Bowl was and as a teammate and somebody who I'm always empathetic to like we're all doing the best fucking job we can you know like nobody fucks up on purpose Scott nor will you know it's like we always give kicker shit but I wouldn't want to be a kicker no and I kind of wonder just honestly like was there ever a moment where y'all were mad and then like when did did you get over that and say hey let's Listen, the guy was trying to do his job. He missed a kick. Well, wasn't that we were mad? Of course, we were mad.
Starting point is 01:21:57 We missed it. Yeah. But never mad at Scott. He's the one at God us there. I mean, he made a couple of field goals during the course of year to put us in a position. No, no, one time I ever looked at Scott was mad at him for missing. I mean, the kid, I should say kid. Guy is such an unbelievable down to earth guy.
Starting point is 01:22:18 And no, no, no, one time I ever thought about that. So you guys support him and check in. Without a doubt. I mean, it comes to my golf tournament. That's great. Oh, yeah. Yeah. We enjoy it.
Starting point is 01:22:26 We have fun amongst each other. And the thing is, you know, we look back at it, we smile and there's people like, you know, a Warren Moon, good example, one of great quarterbacks of all the time. He's never even been to a Super Bowl. Right. And there's other people that's exactly right. That's exactly right. Yeah. I mean, there's guys that you as a kid dream that you'll make it to a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:22:50 Yeah. I made the NFL, let alone, going to Super Bowl. But I've been blessed because I had a lot of great players around me. I mean, I had on offense, I had Hall of Fame running back, two wide receivers, James Lofton, and Andre Reed. And on defense, Bruce Smith. And if we were to one couple of those, Darryl Talley, without a doubt, would be in the Hall for right now. And that's the one thing about the Hall that, like, it's tough to say, like, you're a Hall of Fame or whether you want them or didn't win them.
Starting point is 01:23:16 But, like, there's some guys that do get the bump because they win one or don't win one. And it's tough. There's some guys that probably should be in. I might not get the call. Totally. And that's a good example. You asked Dan Marino, who's one of the toughest guys he ever played against, he'll say, Daryl.
Starting point is 01:23:32 Yeah. I mean, Daryl is our leader on defense. He was everywhere. He did what he was supposed to. It was pretty cool. I asked Josh this earlier, and he acted like he had to think about it for three seconds, but then he had an answer right away. What's the best throw you ever made in your career?
Starting point is 01:23:49 Oh, boy. Oh, boy. The best throw, man, there's so many. I mean, there's a lot of great throws. It's good to have to think about this. Yeah. Guys like me, I'll be like, yeah, I remember the sack. It's funny because I played against the Steelers and I threw six touchdown passes.
Starting point is 01:24:07 But I also threw two interceptions. And I came up in my five brothers away at your motorhome. And hey, congratulations, six touchdowns. And my brother, Ray, you go, what the hell are you looking at all that one interception? I got, I've read that from. where I was at. I got, I ran through six
Starting point is 01:24:22 the top of you. He said, no, but I know that. But besides that, he would jack me. I'm like, man,
Starting point is 01:24:26 I'm going to knock you out. That's what brothers are for. Both, both things. Oh, good, all good. I love it.
Starting point is 01:24:34 The biggest throw, though, like in a big moment. You know what? Biggest throw. There's a couple, I mean, that when I get knocked down,
Starting point is 01:24:45 you know, you stumble, you get the ball, or you get chipped up, a little bit, you get your thing, you're throwing down and peep,
Starting point is 01:24:50 Lars. I remember early on in my career, it might have been in my first start ever. And he jumped up almost like the identical one to Joe Montana through. The Dwight. Yeah, Dwight Clark. Yep. And that Andre Reed, I mean, I remember throwing one to Thurmond. He dove and he was parallel to the grind. He was able to catch it. But you know what? You throw as much as what do you get? Well, even nowadays, they throw so much game was all about passing. But, yeah, what do you think you would have done with RPO's and stuff? Like the way the game. is there anything you watch in today's game that you're like I wish I had that uh no because I can't run it didn't run back then and I'm not running now um but back then I just prayed for and
Starting point is 01:25:33 you talk marina price same way Bernie cozar that we knew where our tackles were if we were able to step up in the pocket and throw one deep I remember throwing a bomb to james loft and I uncorked one about 65 yards in the air and he ran right under and might have been against raiders but I I don't know if it was a championship game. We played them again in one of the coldest games ever. I heard about this one. 35 below zero wind chill. Is that one of the coldest games you played in two?
Starting point is 01:26:00 Oh, yeah. I played a couple against them. One against the jets. I think the wind chill was like 35, 40 below zero. And it was cold. I don't care what they say. And they're saying, did you wear a short sleep? I know what are you freaking nuts?
Starting point is 01:26:14 I'm smart. I'm a quarter about. I ain't wear. I'm making sure I have a couple. Nice white. nice, you know, a warm jersey to put underneath those pads. There ain't no way I'm worn it short. Did you prefer indoor, outdoor, like the Astro Turf?
Starting point is 01:26:29 Because I bet hit getting slammed on that damn Astro Turf had to be the worst. And you said Astro Turf, because below the Astro Turf was concrete. Uh-huh. And, yeah, I probably would have played a couple more years because I ended my career with contussion and against Jacksonville. And it was, it was tough. I'd rather play in grass, of course. But if you had to play indoors, of course indoors.
Starting point is 01:26:53 Of course, you know, the coach we played against, you know, when we played there, that was beautiful. I loved it. I like outside. Oh, your defense player, of course you know, of course you know, exactly. And that's what, you get money who cares for quarterback. Yeah, stay clean. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:09 But it's an advantage up here. People come up here, they're intimidated by the weather. You lose that if you go inside. And that's why I think when they're building that new stadium is going to be outside, but with the fans get a little bit more covered. Everybody's saying, what do you think? What do you think? Outside, for sure.
Starting point is 01:27:23 Yeah. I mean, do you think you might, I guarantee all the Miami Golf fans were saying, Get the dome. Exactly. Exactly. So I looked up to Bill's Mafia earlier on Google to try to see when they, like, it started being called the Bill's Mafia.
Starting point is 01:27:37 And they said 2011, that's got to be bullshit or no. Boy, I don't know, but I know it wasn't to Bill's Mafia. When I played it, what was it? What did y'all call them? Just those crazy. Yeah, Bill's fans. Yeah. I mean, there was nothing.
Starting point is 01:27:49 I love it. I really love the name Bill's Mafia. When I think of mafia, you know, you think of, you know, back in the old days of mafia in New York City and all those things. You got to love all that.
Starting point is 01:28:00 And then when they started it, it just took over. Yeah. And now everybody loves it. I love it. Yeah. What's your favorite thing they do? Is it the tables or something else?
Starting point is 01:28:09 No, the tables are the worst thing you can do. A bunch of wackadoos. They had way too many shots of Crown Royal and probably way too many beers. Some of you have asked me, I would ever do it. I go, hell no. I'm going to do it when I come back up for a game. Yes, I am. You got to give me some advice.
Starting point is 01:28:26 How much if I give you some drinks, which you're going to need? That's good. So 2011, we're not sure if that's when it started. The one thing I wanted to ask you was, and I just, we were talking about it offline, but like, in those Super Bowls, you got an early look at Bill Belichick. Did y'all know who he was? I'm sure we probably did. But it wasn't like, wow, they got this young standout. Oh, no, heck no.
Starting point is 01:28:52 The MLT. Yeah, I know. They all say, because they held us to 19 points in the Super Bowl 25. We couldn't tackle on defense. I mean, they broke a couple of taxes that made them go, you know. We only had the ball, I think, 19 minutes of that game. They had it for 41. We had 19, I think it was.
Starting point is 01:29:10 They just, I remember going into a locker and we take a snap for like, I ain't in line, like eight, nine minutes left. And then we kicked off to him, and then he drove it down the field again. So we were hardly on the field, and we did what we had to do. We moved on at the end of the game to kick to win the game. And unfortunately, we don't know that the kick was no good. But yeah, but I'll give him credit. He was the hell of a coach.
Starting point is 01:29:33 Yeah, I mean, it turned out to be one of if not the greatest ever. Thanks to Tom Brady, what? Yeah, thanks to Tom Brady. What? Hey, man, the last question for you, your favorite Buffalo Bills player right now, or a couple of them that are not named Josh Allen. Who do you really enjoy? Oh, Josh Allen.
Starting point is 01:29:51 Well, I like Diggs before he left, but, uh, um, Vaughn because he's a hunter. He likes to hunt. I like Vaughan, um, Milano, of course. Oh, he's a real. Rousseau. He's part of you. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:06 You gotta have that. And, uh, I mean, there's, there's, nowadays you come and go so, so many times. Um, but I'd have to say right now, I don't know Kincaid very well. I know Dawson Knox. I think he's really good, great guy, without a doubt. But I'm not over there a lot to really get to know everybody, including coaches. I mean, I respect McDermott and what he's doing and what they're about right now.
Starting point is 01:30:34 But there's a few guys that I did a chance to talk to. But other than that, I have so many things going on in my life with my son's foundation, my television, my television, my speaking engagement. And, of course, I got to put in there my turkey hunts, my deer hunts, my elk hunts with a bow. And we have a little fun. So you've got to have your fun time, too. I think I've earned that right to enjoy some of it. And me and my wife love to travel. We're going hopefully back to Italy for the third time with our kids.
Starting point is 01:31:06 They're like, Dad, you're not going without us. Oh, they're definitely. Yeah, yeah. They went, when our 20th anniversary, they went with us. And now we're closed in on my wife's 55th, sorry, Joe, 55th birthday. And then my daughter's return 30 and my other ones graduate. Not a lot. I'm not out of, she's getting her master's social.
Starting point is 01:31:31 All this is at one time. So we said, why don't we go somewhere in my wife? Let's go back to Italy. I go, we've been there twice. Let's try somewhere else. Don't go. Don't go in late February or March because. Heck, no.
Starting point is 01:31:43 I'm not going to, I'm going on with the weather It's nice. Well, I'm just saying Because I think one of these years There's going to be a parade here And I think you should be on one of the first clothes I will, without a doubt I will cancel anything I had To make sure I'm at that parade
Starting point is 01:31:59 And it better happen That's awesome Jim, appreciate the time, brother. So much respect for you, man. I appreciate you having me and a great restaurant. Oh. Unbelievable. Thank you, bud. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:32:15 Thank you. Appreciate you, man. Yep, you got.
