Starting point is 00:00:00 And here we go. There's a little delay in here. I wasn't sure if we were on or not. Still working out the kinks here. I've got Dr. Fax. You're sitting across from me. I got Nolan. Had it.
Starting point is 00:00:13 Off of a wedding. Yep. Shout out Kristen and Haley. Congratulations. Beautiful wedding. Wonderful night, Saturday. Made me, give me a long day on Sunday.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Dude, when you rolled in and said you were coming from a wedding, usually get off the train all bright-eyed and bushytailed. I was like, man, this is going to be a struggle. Oh, my gosh. But we got through it. Tanner, behind the equipment, and Calbs. Yep.
Starting point is 00:00:39 Calbs got to see Willie Nelson last night. This is how much I care about my job. There's very few things I love more than Willie Nelson. And he was in Charlottesville last night. And I said, you know what? It's really important to me to figure out what's wrong with the fucking Chargers. I'm going to stay home. Yeah, I was kind of surprised when I sent to the group chat.
Starting point is 00:01:01 I sent to the group chat that Willie Nelson was coming, and I was like, not a peep. I thought Chris would at least be like, oh, yeah, I'm going to see him. No, I've seen Willie a few times, and I love Willie, but, you know, this is week two of the NFL season. We got to, we got to grind a little bit. And you guys weren't in here, but I got you guys some cupcakes. Oh, thank you. From my daughter's third birthday. Happy birthday.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Yeah, cool. hosted a three-year-old party, had about 22, three to seven-year-olds at the house. That's a party. How's it feel you've taken care of a human being for a thousand days? I feel like I thought about this the other day and I feel absolutely tremendous about it. And just seeing how many of her friends from her class and their parents actually showed up. And believe it or not, a couple of parents are green light listeners. Oh, there we go.
Starting point is 00:01:55 I think that's good. They don't watch the show, but they're listeners. And, like, in real time, like, seeing people be like, wait, your Dr. Fax was kind of a Celebrity moment for Dr. Fax. It was kind of funny during the party. So let me close my 700 tabs that are open. But I did bring you some Mawana cupcakes. I crush one.
Starting point is 00:02:15 That was tasty. Some cake from the party. Dude, I got this. I got this Buccaneers tape up. We need to shut this. This is ugly. This is ugly. I think it's given me.
Starting point is 00:02:25 my MacBook bad juju man um so yeah welcome to the show it is week two we got another great guest today last week we had nick foals um you know that's that's how you start with some fireworks how do we follow that up devon mccordy this week another old teammate one of my other favorite teammates one of the smartest football players i ever play with one of the best teammates ever play with take a second to shout out that 2016 Super Bowl championship team the New England Patriots. That was a fun defense to be a part of. Not always fun
Starting point is 00:03:00 schematically for your boy. You know, played in a three technique a lot. But I loved playing with Niko, Jabal Sheard, High Tower, Dev, the whole crew. I'm forgetting a bunch of guys, but some of the best teammates I ever had. And Dev is fantastic
Starting point is 00:03:16 on TV. Although they keep putting him next to Maria Taylor, which I got to talk to him about. Like, that's totally fucked up. Whoever the producer on that show is, I mean, really putting Dev in a bad position standing next to Maria Taylor in heels, dude. Dev kind of gets lost on that set sometimes. So we'll have Dev about an hour into this show to talk about, obviously, Sunday night
Starting point is 00:03:43 football a little bit, the Patriots big win at home. and I think we'll also talk to him about Chicago and Minnesota. That's a guy who knows B-Flo very well. And we'll pop around to some other things going on around the league. But yeah, Dev will join us in a little bit. I like having the guests on these shows. It's fun. You know, it's hard right now to see everything.
Starting point is 00:04:08 I'm just going to say I'm going to remind everybody of that before we get going. Like last week we had a little snafu where we didn't talk about. the Bears, you know, directly. And we had them on a thumbnail. Now, that's not my producer's fault. That's my fault. You know, we had a little miscommunication on when we were going to talk about the Bears in the show. We never got to it. We dedicated a solid 25 to the Bears on Wednesday. There will be games like that where they're going to, the breakdown aspect of the game is going to move to Wednesday. There's no by weeks right now, people. Like, I've got to do the math.
Starting point is 00:04:47 dude, we watch every game or close to every game. And then, you know, we've got to wake up and I get the all-22 on a lot of these games. So, you know, I'm not the type that if I see, if I'm watching five games on the wall, that I'm not going to want to go back and look at the all-22 of something. I just don't count it if I'm looking at five games at a time. I have to go back and watch twice. So you'll have to forgive me some of your teams we might not get to. that's what the Bermuda triangles for in a lot of situations so we'll get there at the end of the show
Starting point is 00:05:21 last night was was fun I thought that was just admit it I know a lot of people hate the cheves I love him this but they're yeah because fax's stamp he's put his stamp on him he's welcome to the party dude it's fun when the cheves are fun the NFL is more fun yeah I just I really believe that like The memes are better today. Yeah. Everything. Yeah, that's the important part. The memes that Patrick Mahon, he's got his evil powers back is just like, it's so great.
Starting point is 00:05:53 From week one to week two, physically, he looked a lot better. He looked a lot better. I know they're playing the Colts defense that's probably going to bleed a lot of yardage this year. But I thought he looked a lot better. And, you know, the zip on the ball was just, you recognize that. And also the confidence that he has week one to week two in his body, but also against an opponent like that where they're opening voids and zones and that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:06:23 He can climb in the pocket. He's not under assault. You know, last week they're rolling out Khalil Benson. And, you know, you got Benito to block and Zach Allen and all these guys. And Denver's got a very good defense. And they just pounded the football. But this week, you got to see a little bit more of the explosives. You got to see a little bit more of the vintage Kansas City offense.
Starting point is 00:06:42 Honestly, I didn't get a chance to write any of this shit down. They're trying to say Kelsey was done. He's not done. They try to say he was done. There's so many plays where, you know, he doesn't have to be fast. He has to be efficient, which he is. I mean, like, he's like a basketball player. You know, he understands spaces as well as anybody.
Starting point is 00:07:04 I mean, there are downs where, you know, he'll catch the ball on second and eight. And instead of being third and one, he catches the ball four yards, short of the sticks. You know, there's a vice tackle. And, you know, his efficiency of movement, his body control, slipping in the little void and falling forward and setting them up for a first down or a third and short, like little plays like that. There's obviously like the big plays last week where he runs like a pivot and, you know, breaks free and runs for a bunch of yards. But he's so valuable to that offense. And, you know, it's hard to judge a book by his cover, like his age and the fact that he's been close to retiring, but he still looks very good.
Starting point is 00:07:46 And I think when you get the production that they got out of Thornton, I mean, he's going to be a big part of this offense. The contested catches that he made in this game were fabulous, you know, the explosives you get from him being on the field. And, you know, Charlie pointed this out, talking about it today, but like, Rishie Rice is not the, you know, he's not the center of the universe for that offense anymore. And, you know, you were kind of forcing, you know, a, square pegging a round hole or vice versa where you know like he's not a true receiver like you know he's not a true separator he's a he he can play bully ball you can give him the jet sweeps you can get him the ball in the flat um he's really good after the catch but whatever the the comparable to
Starting point is 00:08:31 being like that nickel player on defense that's him on offense he's a he's a niche player he's very important to them but he can't be the the centerpiece and right now the the centerpiece of this offense is Kenneth Walker. And you talk about like hearing Patrick Mahomes, Chris Collins were talking about this last night, the Patrick Mahomes during the playoffs. He's sitting there in a brace or he's rehab and he's watching games and he's texting Brett Veach like,
Starting point is 00:08:57 fuck, Kenneth Walker's playing too good. We're never going to get him. You know, like I'm rooting against the guy because I want his value to be low enough to where we can land this guy. Still don't know how they did or why they. They pulled it off. I mean, you know, and it goes back to the thing where I say it's a lot, like running back, the truth is always somewhere in between.
Starting point is 00:09:19 You know, the post-Zeeke Elliott reaction where like running back is like, it's a pointless commodity or, you know, you don't invest in that room. Like, that's bullshit. But so is the, hey, like if you're a bad football team, you slap a good running back and it's like flex seal. Like that's not true either. Kansas City was in a unique position where. they're very good and they need that one thing to unlock what they do and that's maybe why they were you know one of the buyers and you know like in the passing game there there was a ball where he caught a check down thank you very much to hit the receiving prop and he gets lit up like the fact that he
Starting point is 00:10:01 held onto that football I mean he sure handed his his balance is incredible obviously like you talk about being an edge player. It's so hard. You saw him bounce a run last night where the left edge defender is barreling down and it looks like they've got everything bottled up inside and I've been that edge defender. And people say like, I don't know how he gets out of there. Well, coaches always tell you to run where he's going to be. And that's not true for Kenneth Walker because he throttles it down and he's so patient and he has the agility to bounce. And you know, the backup running back, Thomas. Emmett Johnson. Johnson. Emmett Thomas, or Emmett Johnson, I got to learn his damn name. It's so funny because we were talking about it last night with the numbers. You know, he's wearing 10. And, you know, like, it's so easy to be like, yo, he's got some Pacheco in him. But Pacheco doesn't have what he has. No, yeah. And, you know, like they both run kind of like a bink, pink, pink. Their feet go up and down, right? That's about where the comparison stops for me. Like, if you look at Emmett Johnson's lower.
Starting point is 00:11:07 half. He's built like a six foot two running back and he's got those hips and the gate. The fact that you're going to be able to spell Kenneth Walker is important because he might be one of the most single most important players to a team that's relevant in the NFL and he's going to get 30 touches a game. What's the last time that the cheves and Patrick Malmes doesn't really really have to be the the focal main point because if they keep running him and he keeps producing like he is, that's going to be the start of their offense. And then everyone's going to have to worry about what Patrick Mahomes is going to do off those play actions.
Starting point is 00:11:50 And when you're worrying about him running for 130 and then catching another 30 to 40 yards and receiving, that's going to start getting scary. Well, they have the speed. They have, you know, worthy. They have Thornton. They can stretch the field. They've got a, you know, Thornton's like the new MBS type character where, you know, like his speed, you have to respect it
Starting point is 00:12:15 and the same thing with Worthy, and that opens things up underneath for them. And I think the biggest thing is the Chiefs and Tomlin hit it on the head post-game. With the game on the line, they have been making a living for eons, peppering the flat. and like getting to the flats and getting there quickly and getting there creatively. And when you have a team like the chiefs that have a dynamic running game where they can get these diamond formations and hand the ball to Tonga,
Starting point is 00:12:46 or they can give it to Kenneth Walker and he can hide behind the line and pick up two yards, or they can get to the flat fast, they have all the schemes, they have the looks, you know, they have the quarterback that can make quick decisions. They're as good as anybody on the money downs. they're going to be so hard to get off the field. And when you look at like Shane Steik and having to make a decision on fourth and eight, you know, it's a defensive money down. They're as good as anybody with Spagg schematically on third down,
Starting point is 00:13:13 where they're going to make it really hard. So when you look at like getting this offense off the field is really hard because they can play three downs at a time. They also have the explosives. They have the quarterback. And defensively, they have the scheme and the players that play competitive on ball in the secondary to where, I mean, they play like a, Spags coached defense. I mean, they gave up some yards last night for sure. But they're so
Starting point is 00:13:40 competitive and got to have it situations. And, you know, Fulton, a little handsy and that sort of thing, but like Spaggs likes having those guys that are going to be competitive on ball. And sometimes you're going to have to live with that, whether it's a sneed or Fulton. The thing, when you get to the fourth and eight, and I don't know where you guys land on this, but to me, Stuyken lost that game, on fourth and eight he lost it on first and second down you know like i understand the thought process of hey we're not going to lose the game right here on fourth and eight like i i get that it's defensible but what's indefensible to me is not being more aggressive on first and second down and setting yourself up for a fourth and eight where you have to make a decision where you're like i'm going to give the ball
Starting point is 00:14:22 back to patrick mahomes and the funny part about overtime was bynum didn't know the damn rules at the coin flip do you guys catch that Yeah. And Mahomes said he took advantage of that because he saw Bynum and he immediately tried to jump on it. Yeah, he was trying to, he was trying to, you know, mental warfare buying him. But, but yeah, like the game came down to little money downs and I thought the chiefs are just so hard to beat in those situations.
Starting point is 00:14:53 So going back to that coin toss, whose fault do you think that is? just knowing that situation and knowing that that can get messed up as a coach or a player if you know you're going to get sent out there. It's the coach. Like it's right, like to, that's something that you have to, you have to quiz them, right? You tell them exactly what you want them to say verbatim. Yeah, no matter what, like, hey, if it's, if you call heads, it ends up tails, if we call, this is what you say.
Starting point is 00:15:18 And I feel like. Defer? Like, that's not an option, bro. It's not an option. Two interesting facts from this game. Sauce Gardner has not won a game in the United States since December 15, 2024. He has been playing football for like two years, two years and has barely enjoyed the payoff of playing football. Like, that is why you play the game to win, to enjoy the wins.
Starting point is 00:15:47 It's one of the hardest sports on the planet. And, you know, the thing we always say is, as football players, like, the thing that makes all the bullshit worth it are those, moments at the end of the game. We're in the locker room, you know, like on the bus, like on the plane ride home. He hasn't felt that since no December of 2024. And what makes it even worse is the expectations for him coming into indie was that was a we're going for it. And as soon as they went for it, as soon as they went for it, it all went to shit. And and I feel for Shane Steichen because now you're hearing Carly Ursaid Gordon, um, at, uh, during the game, you know, being quoted as saying like, hey, like guys are coaching for their jobs now.
Starting point is 00:16:31 And Stuyken's a tremendous play caller. And last year it was all coming together and injuries really fucked them. So I feel for the Colts and they're definitely on death's door as far as that regime is concerned. And I think they're better than that shows. You know what I'm saying? And Daniel Jones, this is a wild step. his teams Daniel Jones led teams
Starting point is 00:16:56 one in 16 in prime time wow that's insane holy you talk about a betting edge I say yeah because I'm thinking back man all those primetime games
Starting point is 00:17:09 he had with the Giants yes yikes yes a big yikes so you can blame some of that on the Giants because they were in so many primetime games but week 11 they're in primetime again so keep that mind
Starting point is 00:17:20 so I mean if he wins 10 straight until then. Yeah. Or however many eight, eight, nine more. No, it's just the prime time game.
Starting point is 00:17:30 So, so I think Kansas City is really good. You know, it's still early. I think there will be things in matchups that trip them up. They're not unbeatable. They're,
Starting point is 00:17:42 they're one of the best teams in the AFC though. I think, you know, like if I were to, how concerned with... Coming out of week two. Yeah,
Starting point is 00:17:50 how concerned with them just the fact that they gave up 30 to, to the Colts, do you think? The Colts are pretty good offensively. They really do present a lot of problems. And, you know, Delane, who's their first round pick and had a pick on third play of the season,
Starting point is 00:18:03 he was out with his shoulder. So they had to reshuffle some of their guys in the secondary. I thought they got hosed on two calls, which is funny because, like, they get all the calls, right? But I thought the Sneed play out of bounds where, I think it was Downs, he was pulling him out of bounds, and Downs basically threw a punch at him. and Sneed is like hanging on him and literally just falls out of bounds with him in his hands.
Starting point is 00:18:27 They go offsetting penalties there. I thought the deep ball in overtime, which makes it all the more crazy that you get conservative after the first play of overtime going for it all. The, you know, the guy, I felt gaslit by Terry McCauley. Like I've never felt so gaslit. And I'm not saying because I had Chief's Money Line like parlayed four ways. But I gotta be honest, and maybe you could say the chiefs don't deserve that because they got beat deep. But like Noel Williams, great play. I did not think he had control until well after he was touched.
Starting point is 00:19:09 How they saw that from the side angle, the fact they didn't sink it up with a head-on angle. Like to me, that was one of the most curious calls. I saw, especially when the call in the field is a fumble. So, you know, some things didn't go the Chief's weight, and they still got to win. I think they're one of the best teams of the AFC. I think, you know, after two weeks, I think when you wait offense and defense, like, surprisingly, the Bengals, and maybe not for me, surprisingly, if you listen to preview, Bengals' defense was going to be much improved.
Starting point is 00:19:42 They were in the second half of last season. When you look at their offense and their defense, there's an argument to be made that the best team in the AFC right now through two. two weeks. I think the Ravens are extremely dangerous. I think what happened yesterday is they lost two receivers. And like I said, in the preview of this week, the Saints in the second half invited Lamar with no weapons outside to beat them. Box counts, creeping up, playing the run on early downs, run blitzes. I think the Ravens are really good, though. I have concerns about their defense. I think the bills are a wagon
Starting point is 00:20:16 and I think the team we're about to talk about in the second. The Texans are still one of the best teams in the AFC. I think the Jags and the Broncos are two of the best teams in the IFC if you look, if that's who the Broncos are going to be, they're going to be one of the better teams in the NFC. And when you look at the wild card spot in the AFC, like you figure that the Ravens or the Bengals is one of those spots, if everybody stays healthy.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Who are the two other teams? Like, the Patriots don't look like they're that good. The Chargers, I'm ready to put them on the grill, dude. Like, I've never been so, like, I'm just done with your bullshit. You know, some people, you know how there's that guy that's just always on some bullshit? And you just, you see it coming. And you're like, dude, why is he still here? Why are we still hanging out with this dude?
Starting point is 00:21:07 That's the Chargers right now. So. Well, they got a gauntlet coming up. So it could get scary for the Chargers, row. Chargers, they can start out, what, like, 0-9. Yeah. Their next seven games. It's bad.
Starting point is 00:21:21 So we'll get that. We'll take the trash out on the Chargers in a little bit. But let's start with Sinty Houston. I just want to point this out because, you know, like, I'm a big Houston supporter. I think they got better this year. They're Owen two. Last year, they were Owen three. They were three and five, eight games in last year.
Starting point is 00:21:40 I do think this team's better. I will panic. You know, there's going to be some people saying, hey, Texans, what about the Texans? I'll panic when you tell me they can't win the South. That was big the Jacksonville lost that game yesterday because Jacksonville could have had a two-game lead on Houston. And, you know, like, unless you're willing to tell me,
Starting point is 00:22:04 and I'm not talking to anybody in the room, I'm just saying in the chat, fans out there, if you're doing the hey you know texans are ass thing unless you're telling me they can't win that division then don't talk to me because they can win that division and if they get in the dance with tank dell and a healthy nico collins and hopefully at some point figure this offensive line out they're tough to beat i think the biggest thing of what you said is their offensive line yes yesterday i don't know if i was more impressed with defensive line in the way they controlled the line of scrimmage or just being like their
Starting point is 00:22:45 their offense they're moving the ball but like their offensive line is just not playing well david montgomery didn't even seem like he played in the game none of their running backs did anything and i just feel like if you expect cj strow to throw 50 plus times like every game I don't feel like that's going to bode well for Houston. No, but you know what's so funny. And again, like I'm addressing somebody who's not in the room. It's whoever's out there rolling their eyes of me right now, which I'm sure there are a lot of you.
Starting point is 00:23:18 And I don't blame me because maybe you don't know what's going on or you don't watch the game. But I was told before the season, if you're picking Houston to go far, C.J. Stroud is prohibitive. That's the reason. C.J. Strout, through two games, has been very good. He looks a lot more like the young player.
Starting point is 00:23:35 that everybody projected to be a top 10 quarterback. He really did put the ball on the money in a lot of situations yesterday. So we'll take the trash out on the Texans in a minute, but I want to start with Sinci because they won the game. And Sinci looked fantastic. Bravo, Al Golden. And Al Golden is the story, right?
Starting point is 00:23:55 Like, the big three was the big three. Stingley, you know, if you're going to tell me, Stingley's not, you know, you got to worry about Stingley because he got beat, you know, a couple times yesterday. by two of the best receivers on the planet. It happens. They get paid too. One catch.
Starting point is 00:24:09 The Jamar Chase catch. Unbelievable. Was I got to put that up there with the OBJ catch. I really do. Like the contortion. It's more the feet. It's more the feet. The catch is be able to contort your body to make that catch is one thing.
Starting point is 00:24:26 But like just the mental wherewithal to like be like I got to have my feet like right here. Yeah. And that is. just unreal and i feel like honestly i don't even know how you how do you coach that up on defense if you're a defensive coach coaching stingling uh you don't there's nothing you can do like what do there's nothing you can do perfect throwing catch same thing with the higgins ball that that stingley got hit on um i thought the second touchdown was um you know the second touchdown to chase blankenship had a bad rep but but here's where the the bengal's offense really
Starting point is 00:25:05 really excelled to me was Joe Burroughs legs. You know, that drive that put him up, I think, two scores in the second half after that terrible decision to kick from midfield in a one score game, like with defense you have, you know, Fairbairn missed it, and now since he's got the ball at midfield, the third and seven to P-Rine,
Starting point is 00:25:24 where he extends the play. And he got the ball out in two-four on the day, which is fast, right? You take a couple of these play extensions off. It was like two, two, five, right? there was the P. Ryan play on third and seven, which was a great play extension. And then the other one was the touchdown. It's a scramble drill to chase. So Burrow, who was really tough, took a lot of hits. I think Orlando Brown is a problem for them. You know, I said coming in the game, I thought Mims would, you know, you might be able to leave him on an island, but you need to help Orlando. And Orlando nearly got to, you know, wrecked the game for them. So, you know, two amazing edges. They won't play guys like that. week, but it's kind of a pattern I see with him. So I love the getting under center. I love the, you know, the run stuff. I mean, like, listen, Houston doesn't bring a lot of pressure. They probably
Starting point is 00:26:17 brought double the early down pressure. And part of that's tow-to being out of the game, right, and having a younger guy in there playing linebacker who's not as rangy. Hansen, yeah. Hansen, who doesn't have the experience. So you are going to blitz into some of these run fronts to try to, you know, just knock it down, right? You know, don't think and read as much. We're going to take the fight to you. They do some slot blitzes with Petri on early downs, but I thought bringing the backers was a new thing for them a little bit more.
Starting point is 00:26:48 I think part of that is to toe-to being out, but I think part of it is also a compliment to Cincinnati's run game. Like they are actually like, they're actually like capable, and they get under center and they set things up. I thought that was good from the offense, But the big three was the big three. Al Golden, he's flipped this defense. And he, one of my college coaches, so I like Goldie.
Starting point is 00:27:15 But when you look at the way they played in the second half of the season last year, you shouldn't be surprised. And when you look at the fact that they went out and got Dexter Lawrence and Jonathan Allen, who have been very good. Jonathan Allen has played better in Sincere than I've seen him look over the past couple years. And Dexter, if anybody questioned, was he worth the 10th overall pick? Like when you look at their front, I think it's a yes right now.
Starting point is 00:27:38 So, you know, he didn't record a stat week one, but he changes everything. And he changed everything yesterday. And we'll talk about, you know, what Houston did or didn't do in the run game. But like look at last year Joseph Osai, who I think is in New York now. Yep. Osai, who's been an okay player over the course of his career, probably best known for a late penalty in the AFC championship game. The second half of the last season, I thought he was like a borderline. He flashed borderline pro bowl player.
Starting point is 00:28:10 Like, he looked really good. And, you know, that is an example of like a DC elevating guys play. And I said, well, maybe it's just Osai. Miles Murphy is playing good football. I thought DJ Turner played really well yesterday. You know, Houston's down Nico. And so obviously you're going to be more competitive on ball and you're playing more man coverage. I think having cook, having a real safety, allows you to get more aggressive, right, and not get beat over the top.
Starting point is 00:28:41 But I thought those guys in man coverage were really sticky. Like the ball placement's right there. They're on the ball. And, you know, they've been looking for that safety since Jesse Bates left. So this is a big, you know, piece for them. You know, people aren't talking about cook as much, but, like, cleaning that room up as big. I think Al Golden did a great job. and they're definitely at least a league average defense.
Starting point is 00:29:05 And I want to see a bigger sample size, but they could be a top 10 defense. Yeah. You know, and that's a scary thing. When you look back at like what Joe Burrow could do in the early 2020s with a Lou Anirumo-led defense that was a factor, this is fun.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Yep, and Golden, I feel like they probably, outside looking in and not knowing their mentality in there, it just seems like they're having a bend-don't-break type of mentality. Like they did. If you look at the stats, they gave up a lot of yards in between the 20s. But once they got into the red zone, it's like the mentality is, hey, they're leaving with zero or three. That's it.
Starting point is 00:29:43 And like being on defenses that played like that before, just not knowing how the offense, like if the offense is going to do well or what's going to happen, like if you can get guys to believe in that and just kind of reset, hey, they just threw a 40-yard bomb on us. Okay, let's reset. they're in the red zone. It's all good. Like, as long as they don't score a touchdown, we're good.
Starting point is 00:30:05 Like, we're good. And if they can keep mimicking that, and it felt like that's what they were doing yesterday. Like, Houston would have a big play, and then they would come back and reset and get those three downs to end up being a punt or have a chance at a field goal. They went, what, five for,
Starting point is 00:30:22 they held them five for 17 on third downs, and then O for four on fourth down. So it's one of those things where When you look at the numbers, you're like, damn, they gave up almost 400 yards total yards, but only coming away with six points, that's a hell of a, that's a hell of a defensive game. And just like you said, if you clean up some of those things in between the 20s and before you get into the red zone, they're going to be a team where you're playing against anyone and you have Joe Burrow as your quarterback and Jamar Chase. Offense puts up a couple of points.
Starting point is 00:30:53 If your defense can have this mentality, you guys can be contenders. Yeah, and it just takes the pressure. pressure off the offense that you can actually play a game like on schedule and not feel like you got to go put 50 points up like you went to Houston scored 20 points and one and one and you know and Houston's offensive problems like again I told you all CJ is not the not the prohibited part of this equation if you want to bet on something you're not seeing yet in this young season then be my guess but like the evidence tells me he's going to play better this year and I you know I didn't think it was like they were getting killed and pass pro. really was just, hey, they couldn't run the ball. And that's the concerning part. And I think like Ingram was out, like, you know, that's a factor. The right side of the line looked bad. Like, Trent Brown looks bad. Maybe somebody knows, but like, is Braden Smith? Is he capable? Because when they brought him in, that kind of excited me, at least as a past protector. You know, like David Montgomery is a good back, right? But maybe we overstated how automatically
Starting point is 00:31:59 having a good back would flip the math for this run game. Or is you showing to... I think it's scheme. I think it's showing too how great mixing was for that scheme and just for that team, like how I just feel like that offense is so different without him. Mixing's great, but they haven't had a... Like, Kaylee, it's year two.
Starting point is 00:32:21 I got to see something. I thought they... It's a definition of insanity yesterday, running into odd fronts, running into three-man, whether there's a bear, just a straight odd front, where you have Dexter Lawrence, you know, head up on your center. And he's just whooping them. You know, they're building a wall. They're gaping people out.
Starting point is 00:32:42 Like, to me, the stubbornness to continue to run the football into those fronts, I thought they needed to get into lighter personnel and affect box counts that way and affect fronts that way. And they actually had some positive plays running the football out of the gun. But they just went away from it. And like I hated some of the decision making. Like that fourth down was terrible. You know, and to me, again, the kick at midfield is terrible. Like you got to know who your team is.
Starting point is 00:33:12 And then, you know, you botch a snap on a field goal. These things add up. And if you're getting, listen, Nico's down. He's not going to be down. I know he's got injury history. He's not going to be down every week. Tank Dell eventually is coming back. I told you hit the tight end props.
Starting point is 00:33:26 Tight end's got a lot of action. tight ends have to block better in the run game. So I think the run game, it was historically bad performance. At one point, they had nine yards on 10 carries. Just awful. So Nick Cayley, to me... Entime run period is going to be hell for an initial point. Yeah, well, Nick Cayley, to me, you have to figure out, you have to crack this thing.
Starting point is 00:33:47 Know your personnel up front. Know who you're playing against. You come in with a game plan. It doesn't work. You got to flip the script a little bit. You have to adjust. And to me, that was a big, like, failure yesterday was the lack of adjustment in the run game.
Starting point is 00:34:03 And, you know, guys aren't winning outside. You know, they got Wayne, who's a bigger body, not a guy that was supposed to factor in a lot. And you're targeting him four or five times in the game. I thought, you know, if I'm nitpicking, CJ missed a couple balls. That one, he was hit. He had Schultz in the red zone. I don't know if it was a wheel or what it was,
Starting point is 00:34:23 but he was open. And then Wayne, just a little high on a, a shot from like the gold zone. And to me, if I'm nitpicking those two throws you want back, but other than that, I thought CJ played well. And I challenged somebody to show me where he didn't play well enough to win that game. It's just they couldn't win outside and they couldn't run the football. That's a bad combination. So, you know, again, like you can call me what you want, but Houston's going to be okay. Like they're 0 and 2. They started 0.3 last year. The next three games for them at Indy.
Starting point is 00:34:54 They get Dallas, and then they're at Tennessee, and then they get Jacksonville in Jacksonville. So that's going to be a good football game. And to your point about Braden Smith, he's on short-term I-R with a planter fascia issue, but they should get him back late October. Yeah. He could factor in it right tackle.
Starting point is 00:35:11 That's right. So I'm hopeful that they can shore that up. But a big win for the Bengals and disappointing start for the Texans. The worst part of it. you start this season with two games at home. The bad part about it is you're playing the bills and the Bengals, who are two of the league's best teams. So Jacksonville and Denver,
Starting point is 00:35:34 this was, Denver needed this so bad. You know, if they had started the season, O&2, if the first half had held up in the second half, they couldn't finish those drives in the second half. If they didn't get the turnovers,
Starting point is 00:35:48 this thing would have gotten really ugly. And, you know, Davis Webb, you know, you went to halftime yesterday and said they might Sean might snatch the fucking headset from him like in the locker room but they came out in the second half tail of two halves they were able to finish drives
Starting point is 00:36:05 I thought the waddle stuff was great like getting him the ball I thought his playmakers did the opposite of letting him down you know the guys made you know Evan ingram took a ball off the turf that was like it was just an incredible catch waddles breaking tackles you're seeing the role players make plays. You know, I thought the Red Zone stuff was a lot better. The Coleman edition helps. They didn't have Harvey, who definitely factors into their past game.
Starting point is 00:36:33 They kept Bow Nicks a lot cleaner. They moved the pocket. I think that's got to be one of the most disappointing things. If you're a Jaguars fan, as you weren't able to get pressure. But to me, the biggest gain in this matchup was, like, last year, I remember in the second half of the game, it was like whatever Denver did offensively,
Starting point is 00:36:54 it didn't matter because Jacksonville was just chunking them. Yep. You know, chunk play, explosive play after explosive play. And those weren't there for Jacksonville with the same degree. And obviously, Trevor Lawrence's pick is a bad one. I don't know if that's supposed to be a back shoulder ball or what. It like reset the whole team. Like after that pick, everything like the momentum and everything like,
Starting point is 00:37:17 shifted and everything started going downhill. BTJ started dropping passes again. Like LeQuint Howland dropped a ball that probably could have led to a score. But Trevor also after that had maybe two more balls that probably should have been picks. And I don't know if now he's like, I love Parker Washington. I love the production he does for us. But like, don't start forcing balls to him. Yeah. And I don't know if that's particularly, I'm giving grace to Trevor because, yeah, BTJ was having one of those games where you're dropping stuff.
Starting point is 00:37:52 So maybe your second thinking or being like I'm not even going to, I don't want to throw to him in this instant. Other guys are dropping balls. So you're thinking, hey, Parker's my short shot. I know if I throw the ball to him, he's going to give us the best chance. But I don't know if he just didn't, if he was seeing ghost like Darnel said, because that's what it felt like. I'm like, bro, like, there's a guy, right, there's two guys over him.
Starting point is 00:38:17 Like, what are you looking at? What do you see? But it just, that just scared me. And then the fact that we didn't get any pressure. Like, our defense, we have a team, Jaguars are a team that we have to play complimentary football. Like, to win games. And that's what we've been doing on this nine game, regular, regular season, win streak, whatever it is, it's out the window now.
Starting point is 00:38:37 Because it's just that the first half we were doing it, Denver driving the ball on getting into the red zone, get an interception. Getting into the red zone, only leaving with a field goal. And then they come back second half, and I guess Bo Nix, just like you said, he figured stuff out. Liam Cohen had said in an interview, our pressure package that Bo Nix was, he was identifying it so quick and making the checks. And when we're blitzing and they're sending pressure, you either got to get home or
Starting point is 00:39:06 you can't let the quarterback, you got to disguise it enough that the quarterback can't. automatically make check and be able to get the ball out. And that's kind of the problem for me is it's camp second year. And last year they relied on manufacturing some pressure, right? And they have two very good edge rushers, but they didn't show up in this game. And so what happens when, you know, like we've got the book on you for a year, now you've got to adjust. And the other thing is like Jacksonville let two very good players walk, right?
Starting point is 00:39:38 And Devin Lloyd, and I'm not saying you had a choice necessarily, but Devin Lloyd and A. Chan. And you know, like, you kind of wonder if, like, little things like that. They're not little things, but they're big things. But, like. Speaking of little, miss the damn kick. The dominoes. Yeah, and little missing a kick.
Starting point is 00:39:53 And Lloyd played terrifically for- He played great down in the Bermuda Triangle. Yep. And so I think Jackson was going to be okay. Like, they have a stud offensive coordinator as the head coach and Liam Cohen. Like I think he is legitimately one of those guys. But they will, they will struggle more defensively than they did last year. And so like it puts your offense under a little bit more pressure. I think they played a really, even minus Cooper. That's a very good front. Zach Allen is
Starting point is 00:40:27 relentless. He sets up other people to make plays. The secondary is obviously very good. So there's not a lot of shame in losing this game. Like, but, and this is an interesting conversation. we had because we they showed a graphic of bo nix and trevor lawrence and the way bo necks is like the same age as him but he was in college forever and you know like Trevor lawrence has had a lot longer run in the NFL and i made a joke like and i don't mean it but like i was like oh so it's the same car with different mileage right like you know um i do put them in the same kind of class like which is like definitely quarterbacks you can win with who have elite stretches but i got to say Trevor has had two MVP caliber runs.
Starting point is 00:41:12 You know, like I think it was 23. He was, he was very good. The type of thing where it's like, you're never going to give him the MVP. Yeah. But he's in the conversation. You can say like he's in the conversation. He's had two runs like that. Bo Nix hasn't had those runs, really.
Starting point is 00:41:27 And so, you know, if you're going head to head, I think Trevor Lawrence is a guy that, you know, I've definitely come around on, you know, like I'm not putting him in the elite category, but he's somebody you can win. football games with you if you have a coordinator like this um now the problem is for for denver bow nix's play has has been varied it's it's been variable and like last year the offense was up and down right as good as they were and i pointed out all the close games they they they won last year i mean like the regression to the mean factor definitely is something you're concerned about but i i guess what i'm getting at is the exercise that i i posed yesterday to you guys was
Starting point is 00:42:08 if you had to pick out of 32 quarterbacks out of a hat, you're going to get one name and you get a mulligan, but you get your first pick, you get a mulligan, you could pick again. You pick Bo Nix or Trevor Lawrence. You're probably not going to the mulligan. These are guys that you're perfectly fine with leading your team. They're not perfect. No, I mean, if I pick Trevor Lawrence out of a hat, I'm not going to pick again.
Starting point is 00:42:33 I could end up with Kirk Cousins. I could end up with Jacoby Brissette. I could end up with Tua. You know what I'm saying? What's the say you, Dr. Fath? What do you say? Yeah, you kind of looked at me like, are you sure? Because I don't know if I believe, I feel like you would see Trevor be like, I'm going to take a mull.
Starting point is 00:42:50 No, no, my thing with Trevor has always been like the floor can be low. Yeah. You know, like, hey, and I told you, I took the bills last year in the playoff game. Yeah. The bad Trevor showed up. Yeah. You know, and like, hey, a lot of. quarterbacks have these moments.
Starting point is 00:43:07 Yeah. You know, fuck, dude. I'm about to glaze Jalen in a second. He was awesome yesterday. There were two really bad moments. Yeah. But he won. He won. Yes. And that's the thing you want to see from Trevor Lawrence in a situation like this. And yesterday
Starting point is 00:43:21 he didn't do enough to win the game. And that's why I said the biggest takeaway is from me being a Jags fan is just we have to learn how to finish games. Yes. We have a good team. We have a great team. We're capable. But just being an ex-defensive player watching the end of that game you're like yeah like so what we were up 13 3 like realistically that should be game over defensively mindseted like yes and the fact of watching the game go on
Starting point is 00:43:48 and just so many instances like bro like just get one stop get them off the field just get them off the field and like we could not do that at the end and it's knowing coming off a game having five sacks and i don't know bo necks was just getting the ball off that quick but The fact that we couldn't find a way to generate. It's a mix. They're moving the pocket and they have a very good job. They did a good job. And I just, I want to chalk it up to like, yeah, you're going to have sometimes some game
Starting point is 00:44:15 playing matchups where you're not going to always win. But that's when sometimes you need guys just being guys and being like, hey, I'm going to be my guy here and get in here and get a pressure or get a sack, something to shake this game up a little bit. No one did it. Cowboy, you got to be excited, man. I'm going to let you have the floor while I take a. a piss missile in the words of Tom Brady real quick because I've been hydrated up but
Starting point is 00:44:39 well you go ahead you credit because I think a few years ago yeah give me credit as I go to the bathroom on this show Tom Brady must have been listening to yeah he's listening people are taking my vernacular that's right but I am excited after that second half bow nicks five of six on passes outside the tackle box finally found Waddle had some motion had some action and Nate you were saying after that intercept It all went downhill. The Jaguars, 34 yards on three possessions. And Lawrence had a 19.8 pass rate in the second half.
Starting point is 00:45:12 It was because the Broncos got action on them. They started pressuring them, close that pocket. And the two other interceptions you mentioned, Lawrence is getting hit as he's throwing the ball. Benito was on him. Q Robinson and Jonah Ellis had great games from the edge. And Zach Allen was just a man in the middle. They took a half a sack away from him, though, which was messed up.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Some numbers to support that the way the pressure affected Trevor Lawrence. His passer rating when he was kept clean was 100 even, swung all the way to 4.2 in pressure. 4.2. And with Davis Webb, stoked to see him in the second half make adjustments. They found man coverage, and they said, hey, attack it.
Starting point is 00:45:54 Fine, bust the brown. Buster Brown. Get after him. Start dropping some dimes on their heads, and that's what we did. Could hear that F bomb through the TV after that first interception, bro. They put the camera on him. Bro, I was like, oh, David Webb's head is going to explode on the sideline, bro. What's that meme or whatever?
Starting point is 00:46:11 It's like, five. Five. Yeah, five. That's my least favorite sound on the internet. You said, Lease? Yeah, I hate that. Oh, it's so great. I hate the saxophones.
Starting point is 00:46:22 Yeah, yeah. Saxophones are getting loud for the chargers. Oh, fuck. Talk about that in a little bit. We got New Orleans and Baltimore. This was a hell of a football game that I did not watch in real time, but I went back and really dove in, and I just thought, this is a Tyler Shuck, like, okay, he's real.
Starting point is 00:46:49 Like, we've kind of gassed him up with one, you know, we've dipped our toe in, gassing him up. You know, last week I thought first half he looked shaky. Second half, he made some big throw. he made some huge throws in this game 10 of 13 against the blitz for 1 13 49% blitz rate for jesse minner which is like not his mo 61% in the second half like that to me reflects frustration and saying like hey either you know i'm really confident in my corners or i'm not that confident in my rush and i think it's probably the latter um in his
Starting point is 00:47:27 chargers tenure he was 28% last week was 37% So it's ticked up a little bit. But this week, he brought the house a lot. And there were times where, you know, Shuck didn't get them in the right protections. Like, you know, there were times where they were free runners and, you know, they threw some, I think a couple sim pressures at him. And, you know, he stood in there and put the ball where it needed to be,
Starting point is 00:47:53 put the ball in the flat when it had to be dumped down to the flat, let your playmakers run with the football. But the Aleve throws in the second quarter. that first drive, the last drive of the second quarter, were awesome, dude. I mean, he, you know, like, this connection between them two is, is fun to watch. Hey, Lave 2, we got to start. Is Lave a top 5 receiver this year? I don't know about that. He's probably top 10.
Starting point is 00:48:18 Top 10? Yeah, he's top 10. But this year, he could be higher. Yeah. And that's the thing about receiver as you watch Drake London cuss out somebody off camera yesterday. Somebody was like, can you get a lip read? I'm like, yeah, I think he's saying, like, wide receiver is a very dependent position.
Starting point is 00:48:34 Don't judge me by what's happening right now and also get me the fuck out of here because I'm going to waste my career. So it's just like Justin Jefferson last year when he doesn't have the numbers, people are like, oh, is Justin Jefferson still a top five receiver? I'm like, come on, yes he is. Tyler Shuck unlocked something in a lave.
Starting point is 00:48:52 And Shuck's got the arm to make the throws all over the field. He also has the legs to climb the pocket. Love it. Weaver called him baby Josh Allen or poor man Josh Allen. And he meant it as a compliment, I know, knowing what Weaver's like and knowing what he's trying to say. But Shuck, you know, like he wore that all week. And when I was in the draft time, draft time, they kept calling me a poor man's, um, Gino Hayes. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:49:21 And I was like, that's, Gino's a great player. That's good. I'm like, I'm like, why you got to put it like that? That's good, though. Yeah, it's just a backhanded way of compliment in somebody. but, you know, the throws he made to Lave were awesome. The Saints were persistent running the football. I thought they were better running the football this week.
Starting point is 00:49:40 I have concerns about a couple people on the Ravens defense. Stark's had a rough day. Starks had a rough day, especially when you consider, like, who was there to be picked at that point in the draft. Like, you know, Ravens fans are saying we could have had X, Y, or Z. This guy so far has been a bit of a disappointment, in and you know like he got turned around in a couple situations yesterday so um i also would say like listen i'm not in love with the front i thought green had a really good rush trey hendricksson
Starting point is 00:50:11 good coverage sack um but i don't think they're a dominant front and calaisus campbell the first time i've seen calais like actually look human where i'm like okay yeah he looks closer to 40 than he has. You know, and so... Did you see them drop him in the hole? He looked like a man amongst... But he looked like a large man on a playground. I know. He looked like a, yeah, like an adult playing with the kids.
Starting point is 00:50:40 But, you know, like, I just think when you look at this offense in this matchup, and Miner's a good D.C., and it's... They got a good secondary. The fact that he was able to shuck to rise to the occasion again, like, like being down. These weren't garbage time points. Like last week you could have said, oh, like Detroit was,
Starting point is 00:51:01 it was garbage time. Like, this game was kind of in phase. And they found a way to win this game. I think, you know, when we talk about the bucks in a little bit, the Saints are in the driver seat in the NFC South because they're getting better quarterback play.
Starting point is 00:51:13 And Tampa just paid Baker Mayfield. And it looks like a bad decision. And Tyler Shuck, who's on his rookie deal, is dealing. And so you look at the, you look at the Saints and they're going to be a tough out because of the quarterback. And it's not just the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:51:31 Like defensively, they play, dude. Like, they're kind of the no-name defense, right? Brandon's Daly. Big plays when it matter. Chase Young, guys that, like, are, you know, hey, retreads. You know, like Chase Young. Here's the thing about Chase Young. There was a time where he was overrated and now he's underrated.
Starting point is 00:51:50 And that's the way this thing goes. Yeah. You know, like when he was making a Pro Bowl as a rookie or whatever, I was like, eh, he's not one of the premier rushers, but like he's productive. Now I look at him and I'm saying like he's one of the better rushers in the league, better overall players in the league at edge. And I think people that like, because you're picked high, people, the first thing you think about what Chase Young is, oh, he wasn't as good as he was supposed to be because we all
Starting point is 00:52:15 hyped him and we were wrong. He's still a very good football player. And, you know, like Ellis, the linebacker, he is a knife for them on first and second down. And what happened in this game, and I told you it would happen, and I had a couple people say, I can't believe you're rolling this takeout in 2026 that you got to make Lamar Jackson beat you, like the audacity of me saying that.
Starting point is 00:52:40 What I'm saying is he's got nobody outside. If you kill the head of the snake, the body will die. In the words of Greg Williams, the head of the snake in this matchup was Derek Henry. Eric Henry. Especially with the guys outside. They went away from it. And in the second half,
Starting point is 00:52:55 carries and screen game kind of dried up for them they couldn't get those on-sched plays and you know like I think Derek Henry and some of the the coaches after the game comment I think I think Doyle talked about the fact that in the second half they just took it away with numbers box counts linebackers creeping up cheating to play the run so that's kind of what happened in this game and you know they dared Lamar to beat him with his arm and he couldn't because of the guys outside. This is not an indictment on Lamar. It's just this is the scenario
Starting point is 00:53:31 they were in yesterday. So having said all that, I think the Ravens are still very dangerous, but the Saints are a low-key tough out for everybody they play. They really are. Do you think the Saints found their next maybe franchise quarterback?
Starting point is 00:53:46 I do. I do. I was going to ask to continue your exercise if you pick Shuck out of the hat. Fucking keeping him. Okay. He's also, his name Shuck. In New Orleans, dude. Oysters.
Starting point is 00:53:56 It just makes a lot of sense. You watched that game back on tape and the patience he had in the pocket. He was 10 of 13 against the Blitz for 113. Yeah. 17 of 21, 139, and a touchdown when facing four or fewer rushers. He was good at everything.
Starting point is 00:54:13 And, you know, he can extend plays and the whole thing. So, yeah, like. And if you watch the game, the way of the flow of it, it wasn't like the Saints, like, stole this game. Yeah. Or, like, the Ravens gave it away. It's like more like shucks.
Starting point is 00:54:26 Like they took it in the second half. They came out and they're like, hey, like, we know what we did wrong. And like we're about to win this game. And Baltimore watched the tape last week too. This team is going to come from behind. This team's not going to quit. Like this team's, they've got some guys outside. And they did exactly what you're worried about them doing.
Starting point is 00:54:45 So all credit to the Saints. Ravens will be fine. What do you think the Ravens issue is with late game? Well, yeah, because it's persisted through Harbaugh. Now, I think this is probably a blip, I hope, in the new Declan Doyle look, because, but I blame the last, last bunch of it on the OCs that Harbaugh employed and Harbaugh. Yeah. But now, like, I'm kind of looking at this thing sideways a little bit, but I think this is a perfect storm. 11th, Ravens 11th home loss when leading by more than one possession since 2020.
Starting point is 00:55:18 Next closest team had six. Not good. You know it is good. Devin McCordy's good. He's good on TV, and he was a great football. player and he's a good friend and he's a friend of the program so we're gonna we're gonna bring on devon mccordy right now to talk about sunday night football and more what's up slap what's up buddy it's always cool to hear you say nice things about me since i taught you how to win
Starting point is 00:55:40 he did bro kind of fucking backfired kind of fucking backfired you know you know yeah because you're an asshole you went to philly and told all our secrets i told all the secrets Oh man, what's up, dude? Not much, man. I'm on this travel life this year, so took the 6 a.m. from Kansas City back to Jersey. Then I got a youth football game.
Starting point is 00:56:06 I got to go coach this evening. Damn, dude, are you the head coach? I am the head coach. We're 0 and 2, so I'm obviously not doing a good job. He's on the hot seat, bro. He's on the hot seat, man. What kind of offensive? Parents are worse than NFL fans, man.
Starting point is 00:56:20 I think they are ready to fire me, though. What kind of offense you running? Are you running B-Flo's defense? We got a little wingtie on offense, but everything's under experiment right now. We're trying everything. We might go gun. I might try.
Starting point is 00:56:39 We got lightning in there. So we got a little bit of Flows foundation. There we go. Well, Dev does a great job on Sunday nights. It's great to see him. I keep talking about it. It's really fucked up. They put Maria Taylor standing next to you
Starting point is 00:56:52 all the time. I always send you the pictures and I'm like, man, like, come on, dude. Like, can we get her in some flats or something? Yeah, she loves it. She loves it, bro. She like, last year in studio, she would come in. I'm like, oh, why do you have a four inch heel on? You're six two without here. Like, we don't need all of that. Like, it's not necessary. That's best stuff. Towering over me. But hey, you get Tomlin now. Tomlin's great on TV. Dude, from being on TV.
Starting point is 00:57:22 but just watching the games with him. And then we like go over to run a show and he'll say stuff and you'll have to pause and go like, hey man, what the hell does that say mean? Like we were doing, we were doing something in the studio and we were talking about John Harbaugh, and he was like, you know, Harbaugh, he's like one of those old farmers. You got red paint, so you paint the barn red.
Starting point is 00:57:46 And I was like, I was like, that makes sense. I get, what the hell did you say? Like, it does. But that's it, man. And he, he seems like he's genuinely loving it. Like, we go, we walk into Kansas City last night. And, you know, right away the environment in Kansas City is elite. And he, like, feels like he's enjoying not being on the opposite side of that or, like, caring how it ends.
Starting point is 00:58:15 But just being there, experiencing it, and then walking away happy as hell, no matter what happens in the game. I think the interesting thing is like how long can you do that when you're a coach? Yeah. Do you like fall in love with it forever or do you get tired and want to get back in the game? I don't know. It was pretty funny to hear Munkin heard him say something about the Browns are going to Browns and then Munkin was so fucking mad. You can tell that Munkin, Munkin really, he's holding over a grudge from the AFC North. But yeah, no, he was like, Tomlin heard the clip and Tomlin was like, yeah, I'm just glad that, you know, I can say whatever I want and there's no personal concept. So he's got this media thing down, bro. Like, he's just got it down.
Starting point is 00:58:57 We were all set. He was smiling ear to ear. As soon as they played the clip, he was like, let's go. He was excited about it. Like, it did not bother him in the slightest. That's so great. Great game last night. I wonder, as you watch Kansas City through two games,
Starting point is 00:59:14 what your impressions of them are. My impression was, man, like, they're lethal on third and short. they're lethal on third and medium. They got the run game to stay out of the third and longs. They know who they are. They're great on third down defensively, schematically. Like, this is going to be a tough team to beat. And I do think what we're seeing is real,
Starting point is 00:59:34 like with the explosives being back on the menu for them. Yeah, man, I think when you watch them, they played a game on their terms. They played a game the way that they want to play the game. And leading into the game, we kept talking about the way they played in week one against them, with, you know, Mahomes, I think it's like two points something seconds to throw. He was getting rid of the ball as soon as he hit his back foot.
Starting point is 01:00:00 I think it was one pass over 10 yards, like all these different things. And I sat in there and I was like, Mahomes is just being what he has to be. I said, if Indy decides tonight that they want to get up there, take away to run, be in there playing man to man, press. I was like, he's going to throw the ball over the head. And we saw sometimes last night hit Taekwon Thornton late in the game for a 30-yard game. like they just have the ability to play the game, however they think is best way to win. And I was talking to Brandon Daly, one of their defensive coaches that was with us in New England, BD.
Starting point is 01:00:31 And I was like, what makes it, like, what makes him special? And he was like, very similar to what we had in New England. He's like, it's the guys, not just the physical traits of the guys and how they can play, but they're smart, they're tough, they're resilient. He's like having those core group of guys in the locker room. just allows everything else to happen. And we saw it last night. You get in the fourth quarter against this team,
Starting point is 01:00:56 there's no doubt how they're going to play. Why? Because it's the same people at the top. It's Steve Spadnola, Andy Reed, and now you add Eric B. enemy back into that picture with Patrick Mahomes. Like, there's a confidence to them that they just know,
Starting point is 01:01:09 hey, we'll be all right in this situation. Even after the long treadwell play, they were like, we'll be all right. We'll figure out a way to win. It's so impressive to look at. Shoot, Noel Williams, punch the ball out. Like, you know, that's a very New England, Kansas City type play, dude.
Starting point is 01:01:23 Like, it's something you'd expect to see Dev McCordy make. And the thing I kind of wonder, like, with you being a second-level defender and being active in the box and adding to the run front, like Kenneth Walker's bounce ability has to change everything for guys coming from the second level to support. It's fun to watch because we knew he was good in Seattle. But I think now being in Kansas City, which I think a lot of like really good football players find out is it sometimes matters where you play. If you play in one of those cities where like people see you time to time, I think for him, people really got to see him in a Super Bowl. And now you're going to Kansas City where you're going to be on prime time five or six times a year.
Starting point is 01:02:09 The guy's vision and lower body, I think, make him special. He sees the play and sees the hole where he should go every single time he touches. but I think his lower body strength allows that balance to jump cut, to bounce it out whenever he needs to. And I remember just being in all of those meetings in New England, he's a top guy where I could hear Bill in my head right now. Everyone's at the point of attack. Yes.
Starting point is 01:02:34 Like the run's supposed to go to the left. If you're on the other side, you have to be ready because the ball could bounce back there or can get over there. And I think he's just become the bell cow for this team. And I thought what was interesting last night, they used them a little bit more at the end of the game and the past game. The rookie Emmett Johnson had been taking a lot of those reps,
Starting point is 01:02:52 but late in the game, they even try to throw the corner route out of the backfield to him, which is usually not his type of play, but they just want to keep him on the field as much as they can. Yeah, the only thing I worry about him with his workload, but you mentioned having the second running back, I'm sure he's going to get a lot of touches. He's got some juice, too.
Starting point is 01:03:12 So, yeah, a lot of fun to watch them. I think football is more fun when the Chiefs are good, like when you're a player maybe not so much but like as a fan i'm watching it that was just an incredible game so um new england pittsburgh man um i thought this was coming in i thought this was a tailor-made variable spot you know new england the way they looked uh to to start the season was awful it looked like they didn't make any adjustments um offensively they kind of played not to not to lose i felt like in seattle and i thought the matchup with pittsburgh was a really good one for them. And if you look back at last year, like they turned the ball over a bunch and lost
Starting point is 01:03:52 that football game, they probably would have won that game if they kept clean. So I wonder what your impressions in New England were. Obviously, the On Wenu injury is big and that reflected in the run game as the game went on. But what did you see from Drake May and what did you see from that Patriots defense? Yeah, for me, I was like you when last Wednesday, when the game first ended, I was like, man, they needed to be more aggressive. They should have done X, Y, Z. And then I watched the game back and I said, you know what? Your quarterback made some bad decisions late in the game, but without those bad decisions, you kind of were playing from ahead and you played the game, probably and coached the game the way you wanted to going into the game, especially once
Starting point is 01:04:33 Sam Darno went out. I think now coming back in week two, it looks like I try to watch it a bunch of times. It looks like the interception Drake May had got tipped, which makes me feel a little bit better about that throw. I don't think Pittsburgh's a very good football team right now. I think they beat the Falcons in week one, which is, I think, a really bad football team with no quarterback. So I thought the Patriots did what they needed to. I think offensively, they're still trying to find their way. And I think that'll even change again whenever A.J. Brown gets healthy. The positive is, I think Romeo Dobbs walks away with more confidence in the offense. I think Josh McDowell's walks away with more confidence and how to use him.
Starting point is 01:05:16 All throughout training camp, it wasn't a high amount of usage for him. Like one week was very low, and the next week spiked a little bit. They were, they're still trying to build that kind of chemistry and connection on exactly where Dobbs fits in the offense. And I think they'll find a little bit of that. And then A.J. Brown will come back and that'll kind of reset. But I think you've got to be a little impressed by their defense. I think they played well, week one.
Starting point is 01:05:40 Again, Sam Darno went out. Week two, Pittsburgh's bad. but they did what they're supposed to do. So you don't fully know the story about this team. I think for them is they got to be ready because Buffalo looks damn good this year. And I think when you look at the Jets, the way they played yesterday,
Starting point is 01:06:00 they look better. Not saying they're a juggernaut, but they look like a better football team. So it just continues to strengthen that schedule that you're going to have to play this year and they'll have to play against Jacksonville, which I think is going to be a really good game this week. Yeah, it was good.
Starting point is 01:06:14 to see Raritan make a player too. You know, the young titan they had, again, like Dobbs, you mentioned them playing in phase in that game last couple Wednesdays ago, but I think they win that game if Dobbs catches that ball to your point. You know, like they were, they had the, they had control of the game. I had it, I took issue with maybe some of the, you know, before the half not being more aggressive trying to push it to scores. But I know that's the way Brayble plays and that's the way they saw it. But I do think, My take coming to the season, that the Pats are going to be a better team with a worst record.
Starting point is 01:06:48 And I know it's not a hot take. Me too. And I still think that could happen, but the on Weno injury is a big one. So we'll see what happens there. Chicago and Minnesota, man. I think the first thing coming out of this game is, I'm not saying I'm not a hater.
Starting point is 01:07:05 And I think Caleb's fucking fantastic. And I think Ben Johnson's awesome. But I got a little tired of the, after one week. What Carolina put on tape was egregious, bro. Like it was some of the worst defensive football I've seen.
Starting point is 01:07:22 And Averro's groups have had these hiccups where they've just, the dam has broke on them. You know, the whole bend coming out and saying, hey, we're going to break offensive records. And coming into this game this week, I said it's going to be low scoring. You go back and look at these Minnesota games last year. You know, B-Flow mixed it up.
Starting point is 01:07:38 He wasn't just blitzing. They were playing some coverage. They were rallying, tackling, tackling. and checkdowns, this is going to be a dog fight. And then you see the monsoon come in. But I thought this was a reminder that B-Flow still holds the cards in this matchup. And I kind of wonder what your impressions were of Chicago's offense coming out of this game. Before the injury.
Starting point is 01:08:01 Yeah, and I think what you said is real. The monsoon, the constant rain definitely played a part, I think, in how that game was played. I agree with you. We were sitting in our little trailer last week as like Caleb Williams is doing interviews and one of our producers, like, but don't you like that confidence where like Caleb after the game was like,
Starting point is 01:08:23 we didn't play well. You have 59 points. Like spare me the we didn't play well. Guys, it was a good outing. You did what you were supposed to do. But when you hear that, you know how it goes. The rest of the league, you start to hear that. And I remember last year talking to flow,
Starting point is 01:08:39 whether it was a Kyle Shanahan, or Sean McVeigh, whatever you want to call these trees or these hot offensive coordinators, he told me, I spent all offseason, and this is what I did. I watched these guys games, whether it was them, whether it was a guy from their tree somewhere else, and you just go over and over, and you think of like, all right, this might work. And I think the cool thing about flow is when I played for him in 2018, when we were both there, it was heavy man to man.
Starting point is 01:09:08 It was pressure with man. Now it's pressure with cover two, with cover three, with these kind of made up zones that just play the play that he has in there that makes it so hard because there's so many guys around the line of scrimmage. It impacts the run game. It impacts how the protections. And then once he impacts the protections, now those guys are getting out of there, but he's carrying one-on-ones or he's creating free rushers because it has simulated pressure.
Starting point is 01:09:35 So I just think his ability to say, okay, I'm going to make this so. hard that even if your offensive coordinator figures it out, he can't relay it to your quarterback after those 15 seconds. So you guys are still going to be chasing us and trying to figure out what we're doing. It's so fun to watch. I text them after the game because I'm sure you appreciate this. Some of the rushers is they got free, you could see them breaking down. Yes. And I was like, hey, you were all over those guys about keeping Caleb Williams in the pocket, huh? And he was like, I might have overdid it because we kind of went over the top with keeping them in the pocket and not just rushing them.
Starting point is 01:10:12 But he said that he told his guys the key to this game is, it's going to be third down, two minute, red zone, and third down in the red zone. And when you look at it, you get a stop on third down, then you block a field goal. You play well in the red zone. Like that was the difference in the game with the field goals, exactly kind of what he said to them.
Starting point is 01:10:31 So it's as a guy that played for him for years, it's been fun to just see him dominate on defense, no matter who they played against. Why do you think he pivoted to the going away from the man coverage when he got the keys to the car himself? Like, is that a personnel thing? Or is that more of just like that's a wrinkle that he was waiting to employ, but he couldn't do it under Bill? No, I think it had to do with personnel. And I think the time he spent in Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 01:10:59 I remember talking to him and, you know, between the Pittsburgh Steelers, but also the Pittsburgh Panthers. And watching some of the stuff they were doing in college and how that impacted, quarterbacks and all of that and how much of our game has kind of transitioned more towards the quarterback friendly. Let's take some things of what you did in college and bring it in here. He said he started to learn something. So now to me, you get a coach that has the Bill Belichick tree with, hey, we're going to stop what you do well, the kind of Mike Tomlin, Dick LaBoe, era of kind of Tampa 2 Mike Tomlin, Tony Dungey stuff with the fire zones with Dick LeBoe. and this kind of pseudo-Pittsburgh panther stuff that he learned,
Starting point is 01:11:44 he's now created the kind of Brian Flores defense that nobody else really runs, but that he does, that I think is very unique. And it's been fun to see because they've had some different moving parts. I know Harrison Smith came back in, but they've drafted different guys. They've inputted different linebackers in there. Blake Cashman's gone out.
Starting point is 01:12:03 So he's kind of figured out and moved his scheme to fit whoever's in there however they can play. And it's funny. We were talking about like free rushers, man. Dallas Turner, if I had a dollar for every time I heard or read that he was unblockable yesterday, and I like Dallas Turner, he's a good football player. And he plays his ass off. So I'm not saying I don't love Dallas Turner. But like the pressure numbers are incredibly inflated because he's the free runner like five times a game. And he's so fast and he's so long and his closing speeds great. And then, you know, he's know because of the numbers at the line of scrimmage he's going to be on a tight end like with the game on the line big brain ben jonson is going to block their best rusher with a tight end and so like you can talk all this shit you want about we're going to set records we're going to do this that and the third Minnesota stopped the run with a bunch of new guys in that front young guys and on third down they continue to be dominant he blitz 78% of the time which is just obnoxious bro
Starting point is 01:13:08 That's just like, fuck you. That's like basically a middle finger. And yeah, you get free runners. And you said it, like keeping Caleb in the pocket for any team that plays him. Carolina got killed when he left the pocket. And so you could see that play out as the game went on yesterday. I think Chicago's offense, when Caleb, God willing, gets back in a week or two, is going to be scary. They're still going to be tough.
Starting point is 01:13:31 And their team you don't want to play in two minutes at the end of the game because of what Caleb did last year. but to think that all of a sudden they're unbeatable because of the way they looked against Carolina, I think it's too far of a leap of logic. So, um, Dev, what else? What else did you, what else did you see yesterday? Did you watch DC? Do you watch Washington and Dallas at all? Yeah, yeah, we had, we had all the games on, man. And, uh, I know you got that, that beautiful, big wall with all the team. Yeah, man, I'm, I'm still not sold on Dallas's defense. It's not aggressive enough. It's, it's, it's, I don't, I thought, you know, Jaden Downs gets hurt.
Starting point is 01:14:08 But early in that game, if you play Jaden Daniels, the same way we're talking about Caleb Williams, you can't let them beat you running the ball from the pocket. He escaped in the B-Gap a few different times, creating big plays. So I do wonder about that. But I think, you know, what makes Dallas special is the offense. And there's nobody better playing at home than the Dallas Cowboys.
Starting point is 01:14:29 And that's been for years when they play at home. So I thought that was impressive. I think the scary thing for Walsh. Washington is like that might be it. I just don't know where their season goes without Jaden Daniels in there. Well, also for Jaden Daniels on a macro level, is two former players sitting here like I feel for the guy. But it's like I'm kind of starting to see this as like, man, maybe this is what it is.
Starting point is 01:14:55 Like, you know, maybe this is kind of, and I don't mean this is a personal attack, but like this is who he is physically where, you know, like whether he's just hypermobile or whatever it is, he's more susceptible to these injuries and they're happening a lot. And it doesn't help that they already went through the RG3 thing. And it's kind of like tantalizing. You got this guy who his rookie year,
Starting point is 01:15:15 I was like, yo, he's the top 10 quarterback and he's going to be in this league for a long time making plays. But now I kind of wonder if you can realistically depend on him in your plan. And Marriota is a good backup. Mario Tom, I'm sorry, is a good backup and has won them some games.
Starting point is 01:15:29 But like, as you put together your plan for your franchise, like, is it safe to, to pencil in Jaden Daniels as like the future of this franchise. I'm not saying they got to go a different direction, but this is always going to be over your shoulder. You wonder if these injuries persist.
Starting point is 01:15:43 It's rough too, right? Because those are all of the question marks about him. I think everybody liked them as a quarterback as a player. But, you know, as you transition to the NFL, it was, hey, is this body frame the best that we, that you think for longevity in the NFL? And yesterday it was just rough because it was like, man, he just kind of tripped.
Starting point is 01:16:03 And, you know, everyone has done that. You just put the kickstand down real quick to catch your fall and to see that. I just think especially when you have a team, their his rookie year, you go all the way to an NFC championship. The expectations are so high. So much of the team's belief and drive is surrounded by just him. Like, it's him. When he's in the building, when he's leading to charge, there's a confidence and an aura to this team. that's different.
Starting point is 01:16:34 So when you watch that, I just feel like the balloon. Like you just stick a pin in the balloon and the air just starts to come out. So that's what, so I agree with you to the point of how can you build that way if that's a real concern? Like how do you, how do you try to figure that out? Like is it a third or fourth round quarterback that you want? Like they have to, I think they definitely have to put some time into thinking about how exactly do we build this franchise to go out there and try to compete for the division. It's a tough one because the division looks pretty good. I mean, like, you know, the Giants floor raised substantially,
Starting point is 01:17:10 although I'll tell you this right now. I think this is a tailor-made spot for the Rams tonight. I don't know if you're on the Giants train or not, but I think tonight the Rams, the overreaction of, oh, the Rams are a bad football team because they got beaten Australia. That drove me a little crazy, Dev. You know, like everybody says, hey, they did the dumbest thing of all time. They flew in the day before the game.
Starting point is 01:17:32 They're going to be terrible because of that. And then after the game, they're terrible. And people are saying, well, it's an indictment on the team. You know, Shanahan's also eating their lunch money or taking their lunch money on a couple occasions. So I guess what I'm saying is I wouldn't be so fast to hit the panic button on L.A. And then the Giants looked good, but that was just one game against that Dallas defense. Yeah, I agree.
Starting point is 01:17:53 I think the Rams are still a team that I think they have to prove that they're a good team. I think we went from two sides of the spectrum. First, we anointed them as much. Mike Tomlin keeps saying we gave them to August Lombardi, where they've already got it. And then soon as September started, it was like, oh, well, they're a bus. And it's like, slow down. My biggest concern for the Rams is how do you become a team? Like, I got scared when I saw they had 11 captains.
Starting point is 01:18:21 What do you mean you got 11 captains? That's a while. Why do you need that? It's like, man, we're a team. And this team, we now have these guys who become the captains or whatever. be like whoever becomes the guys to go lead. It just, it is what it is. But I think they have to make sure they don't become susceptible to trying to kind of cater
Starting point is 01:18:41 to all the superstars and everyone and just go be a team that wins the Super Bowl. I think the Giants showed something to start the season. I think it's a little easier week one to get going and prove to everybody. How do you do that weekend and week out? Now you're traveling to the West Coast to do it. I think it's going to be a good game. I think to your point, we're going to learn something. I don't think it's the end-all, be-all,
Starting point is 01:19:05 but we're going to learn something about these two teams going forward, that even if the Giants don't win, but if they come out and compete on a high level, I think we all walk away and say, well, damn, like the Giants realistically could go and win this division, obviously health and all that, but if they continue to do that, there's no reason why you don't think they can win that division.
Starting point is 01:19:25 Well, they're down a corner. And, you know, I think the thing that, impressed me most about their, their offense was their ability to stay on schedule and, and Jackson Dart making good throws on money downs. You know, like, I thought some of the in-cuts were on time, really impressive ball placement. The whole thing, he looks like a real deal guy to me. But again, you know, it's the Giants. There's a lot that has to go right for them to win the division.
Starting point is 01:19:53 We'll see, the last thing I'll ask you this is, go ahead. Yeah. No, no, I was just going to say, and now for all, like, the Giants and the Giants and bunch of these offenses, no one knew what you were going to do week one. Now there's film. So now it changes a little bit going forward now that people understand exactly how you're going to attack. And speaking of like new look offenses, we all kind of sat there and were like, oh, Mike McDaniel, he was handcuffed by Tua, which I still think he was. But, and then, you know, he's, it's going to look like, it's going to be like fireworks. Like, you know, they got Hampton.
Starting point is 01:20:25 They got, you know, you're talking yourself into, you know, the tight end room and Lab McConkey. can probably be a one that Mike Evans or not Mike Evans Keenan Allen was taking all his targets so that was explains the dip in production and hey they got two great tackles and Justin Herbert is legitimately a jugs machine when he knows where to go with the football when he fires it with confidence it's a beautiful ball so we all get so enamored with this thing but the first two weeks have been awful and I'm about to talk about the Chargers as soon as I let you go and I'm wondering a little parting thoughts on on Justin Herbert and the Chargers offense and what you're going to. you've seen. Is it fixable through two weeks?
Starting point is 01:21:04 Yeah, man, I think what you said is real. Like Mike McDaniel goes in Miami and we're like, man, he would be elite, but Tua's holding back a little bit. And now he goes to the charge and I'm like, man, he's holding Herbert back a little bit because I feel like they're running the Tua offense, it feels like. It's that pistol. It's kind of the run fake. And then, you know, we watched to her right from that run fake, the quick release where he would hit those kind of, whether you want to call it deep slants or skinny posts right behind the linebackers, that's not Herbert. Herbert's kind of a big motion.
Starting point is 01:21:40 He's a big quarterback. I was hoping that we would see more of the kind of Shanahan style in San Francisco with some of that kind of run game, some dropbacks, some finding the tight ends, throwing some overrouts. Like I thought we would see more of that. And so far, I think Herbert looks a little unsure. Sometimes, like I thought in week one, he could have let a couple throws rip. It looked like he had it timing-wise.
Starting point is 01:22:09 And I thought the disappointed thing was with Jesse Minter leaving. The defense looks like they have no, no, like, edge to him. Everything looks like they're just out there going through the motion. So there's a lot to be desired watching the charges play. And the hard thing for them is you don't want to fall behind too far in that division. between Denver and the Chiefs. That's going to be a tough division. So they're going to have to figure it out,
Starting point is 01:22:33 and then you look up, and the Raiders are 2 and O. So it'll be tough for them, I think, going forward. It's that Tom Brady effect, bro. It's Tom, dude. He's just walking around the facility, breathing life into these guys, man, dropping jewels.
Starting point is 01:22:48 Tom Brady. That's what changed your life, huh? He did. He changed my whole life, dude. Every time I see him, I tell him, dude. And also, Tom is the coolest fucking guy ever. I saw him in Houston at the, at the joint practice.
Starting point is 01:23:00 And like, when he sees me, like, the amount of like, hey, I'm going to sit here and talk to my teammate, when he could just be talking to anybody. And, you know, like, you're not even one of the, your role player on one of his 10 championship teams. But he's just, he's so locked in. People don't understand that about Tom, great human being. I also think he's doing a good job in the booth.
Starting point is 01:23:20 He's letting it rip a little bit. Yeah, and then you go back and you tell everybody, see, I told you, Tom, was my boy. He's my boy. I told you right now. Exactly right. That's why, hey, Dev, Dev, Dev, I don't know if you saw my IG post, but I definitely put him in my carousel.
Starting point is 01:23:33 You know, I definitely was like, yeah, I got to get this picture because he looks really engaged, bro. And also, another, you know, one of the pillars of that New England dynasty, Devin McCordy, appreciate you joining the show and keep up the great work on TV, bro. You get some of those Tom Cruise shoes. And I love you, man. It's so good to see you, dude.
Starting point is 01:23:57 And I appreciate you guys the show, man. All right, bro. All right. Devin McCordy. Man, one of the best, one of the best, one of the best, one of the smartest football players, one of the best teammates ever had. And that's guest number two for us. I'm going to read an ad real quick.

Starting point is 01:24:39 Visit zonepouches.com. And remember to join the loyalty zone for exclusive rewards and offers. Okay. Eagles fans, we're almost there. I can't wait to talk about this game. We have the chargers here. because I like to be honest on this show and I'm not going to bury a take that goes counter
Starting point is 01:25:03 to what I said in the preseason at the end of the show. I want to get to get to it. You know, I took him as a wildcard team and I got to say if I want any mulligan, it's probably that. You know, like the bucks look god awful. I don't take that personally because, like, you know, you look at that team on paper
Starting point is 01:25:21 and, you know, they really do have a lot of good football players and I can't figure them the fuck out. I got some thoughts on that. That'll come in the Bermuda Triangle. But the Chargers, man, it, like, from Optostats, the Chargers are the second team in the NFL history to lose back-to-back games by double digits
Starting point is 01:25:38 with both coming at home against teams that had a sub-200 win percentage of the previous season, so that's a mouthful. But it's relevant. The other was the 1926 Racine Tornadoes. whoever a span of October 10th to 17th of 26th, you remember that, played just one more game before folding. So yeah, maybe they'll cancel the Chargers, dude,
Starting point is 01:26:05 because that would be good for a lot of people in sports media who just can't seem to quit them. Is there like a Nicorette patch for, like, Chargers fans or, like, people that said they were going to be good that we can just wean off them because, like, I do feel like just quitting them cold turkey. I mean, like, I'm pretty much there. Jim Harbaugh.
Starting point is 01:26:26 Yeah, he drinks milk. He wears khakis in the cold tub. He's fucking, you know, shrugs off, Herbert not being at OTAs or whatever. The hyperbolic statements about the talent of the quarterback. You know, McDaniel, oh, he's so smart. I look at his little short pants. And, you know, like he talks with a weird cadence at the podium. And it's so cute and funny.
Starting point is 01:26:46 And, you know, the cocaine kingpin sunglasses, man, like, in the words of who was it was it uh seth rogan and stepbrothers uh now the tuxedos seem kind of fucked up like honestly that's how i feel right now like it's like we all just got kind of caught up in this thing it's undeniable that herbert's got a lot of tools ma'am and i'm not going to get into this daytime talk television thing where we do the this quarterback versus this quarterback or like i'll say it squarely until he starts winning games he doesn't get to be talked about as elite. Like, I'm sorry, you can have elite traits, but unless you win games, and there are going to be things in this game as you look at it and talk about it that
Starting point is 01:27:30 aren't on him. But finding a way to win these fucking games is on the quarterback. And I know that it's a new system, but like this story is getting old. And this is actually as bad as they've looked. Like, they started last season off and looked very good. And you could honestly, justifiably blame last year on injuries. But I cannot blow. blame the performances over the first two games on anything but the team not being prepared to play. And that includes the quarterback. And, you know, like I looked at this game yesterday and, like, throwing the football, he made a lot of good throws. He didn't make a lot of bad throws. I thought the pick to Injoku was a little bit underthrown, but guys got to catch the football. You know,
Starting point is 01:28:14 the second pick, it's desperation time. There were drops that were really bad in this game. There was one play where the Chargers actually broke up their own pass attempt. There were two guys in the same spot. You know, who was it? What's this guy's name? He's Brennan Thompson dropped a beautiful ball, a pearl on a deep over off the toss fake. Like, so I'm not going to do the thing where I'm not going to call Herbert Elite. I'm not going to sit here and hang on to some take that he could be the second coming because he's been here seven years. Okay. And he hasn't showed up. in the big moments, okay? So don't, don't miss me with that bullshit.
Starting point is 01:28:55 I'm not going to stake my reputation as an analyst of football on a quarterback. I don't get that, I don't get emotional like some people and, like, tie my identity to a quarterback. But I'm also not going to put the entire game on Herbert. I thought this, this offense in general looked really disjointed. And, you know, like some of the run plays, there's guys blocking the wrong people there's fucking um who was it uh you botched the snap in the rung you you you botched in exchange in the red zone tray harris was playing soccer with a with a snap like it it was just the house of horrors you get two possessions in the third um one of them ends with that you know the fourth third down
Starting point is 01:29:39 you're in shotgun like short yardage you're in shotgun you're supposed to be this big bully of a run football team you get this big running back that listens to stained and wears a dark visor and he fucking he's huge, but you can't pick up a first down on third and short. I don't, listen, I watched the first half and I thought, oh, the run game actually, you know, there's some good things. And the second half, it just kind of went away. It kind of felt like McDaniel just got out-coached in the second half of the football game, and it felt like he got out-coached the minute they got off the bus because this team didn't
Starting point is 01:30:12 have a great training camp. You can tell that Harbaugh and McDaniel just screwed the pooch with preparing their team, to start the season on the right foot, you look at the schedule and you get Arizona and you got the Raiders. And I'm not saying the Raiders are a bad football team. I think their floors a lot higher than people think. They're 2 and O.
Starting point is 01:30:34 And they've got good football players, but it's inexcusable to lose games like this. If you had just lost to the Raiders on the last possession and you played well, I'd say fine, but like you didn't play well. And the details were fucked up. and the passing game is uneven. And, you know, I heard what Devin said,
Starting point is 01:30:53 and, like, I don't think Devin's a Justin Herbert stand, but, like, I don't know that the offense fits him. And that's a scary thing to, like, open your Christmas present on Christmas morning and say, like, damn, like, these socks don't fit. You know, like, I'm not sure. And, yeah, you watch it at some points, and, like, you kind of wonder if Herbert and McDaniel are going to be at odds pretty soon.
Starting point is 01:31:18 And you look at some of the shots on the sideline and I'm on the bench and Herbert does seem like a standoffish kind of guy, you know, where he's like a little like awkward and McDaniel's awkward in a totally different way. And like McDaniel's now going to try to hype him up and talk him through this whole thing. And I feel like there is a bit of a visible frustration with the timing of this passing game.
Starting point is 01:31:41 Like, you know, and I think what Dev said is right on, like Herbert is more of things develop slowly. And, you know, he's got the arm. to make the big throws like you need to take the time to let things clear out and if you're coaching him and possibly in some situations overcoaching him to go to that first read kind of like they were in Miami and like open windows like predetermined windows maybe he's not taking that real well and that's on him on a level like he has to be more malleable dude you know so um I come out of this thing and it's a nuanced way of saying like the charges kind of suck and um you know they're
Starting point is 01:32:17 0 and 2 and you look at the next bunch of games for them like it's going to be hard to get to the edge of the pool for this group at Buffalo at Seattle Home versus Denver at Kansas City I don't see a team that can beat those teams I mean like maybe they steal one of those games or you know
Starting point is 01:32:35 what have you but you know the way you steal one of those games is maybe Buffalo's defense you know but Buffalo's a wagon right now good luck outscoring Josh Allen with those corners you got you know they gave up explosive plays i think in this game that's not something they did last year that's the so you're replacing a dc you're replacing an offensive coordinator and i don't know if this is the first time harbaugh has ever done it so i don't want just blame harbaw for the start of the
Starting point is 01:33:01 season but i'm starting to wonder like what is it you do here like if if the culture is what you're responsible for and i know he's an offensive mind but like you hand the keys over to mcdaniel and you're responsible for the culture of the football team why are guys fucking the mundane things up you know like that to me is a reflection of the coaching staff and so Greg Roman's sitting there somewhere and he's being like I think he's he's getting ready to coach the giants tonight and he's at a probably he's on the flight to to LA last yesterday watching this game in his seat and he's like it wasn't all me right and so uh I'm not going to sit up here and defend the chargers that's just my reputation i'm not going to fucking defend this team I'll put them on the grill they lose again
Starting point is 01:33:47 Like it's just, I've had enough. You know, I've, you talk about there are T's. Mm-hmm. They are a tease. And that's not to, that's not to, that's not to shit on anybody who's a Herbert proponent, and I have been, because the tools are there. Ray Charles could see that. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 01:34:06 But it's not all about tools. You know, you have to be able to make decisions in, in an instant, and make the right throws and you got to be able to take care of the football late in the game he you know he lost almost lost two fumbles one of them backed up that turned into second and 18 and so i think it's just a total failure and i hate not talking about the raiders because i thought kirk cousins was really good like that kirk cousins like that kirk cousins look like younger kirk cousins i've never seen somebody looked so dead as he looked when he was coming off the achilles right where you couldn't even hand the ball off in ways that you wanted to.
Starting point is 01:34:47 You had to change the way you had to put him in the pistol because it didn't move. Remember how Undertaker used to come out that casket? Yeah. That's what Kirk Cousin did. His arm in Atlanta did not look what it was yesterday.
Starting point is 01:35:01 No. Biring that fucking pigskin, man. Tom Brady effect. So, you know, on Wednesday, Raiders fans, you know, like Max Crosby, Max Crosby was great. You know, you expect him to be great. Like, honestly, I did Baltimore
Starting point is 01:35:14 probably didn't want a part with those two first round picks, like, in retrospect, but he would have helped them a lot more up front. Like, that's what I said when it happened. Like, I kind of get it. Like, they dodged a bullet, not mortgaging the future, but he's better than Trey. And, you know, like, a lot of people wonder
Starting point is 01:35:29 what Max's knee would look like and how he'd hold up this year. He looks like Max. Nicoby Dean was great, right? You've got a corner that brings down two interceptions. What's the kid's name? Hezekiah. Hasakia masses.
Starting point is 01:35:47 Masses. After the games, he said, he tried me twice. Yeah, he tried me twice. He's good than the run fit, too. Yeah. Some of their second level guys were really adding. Dude, like, Rob Leonard's got some pieces over there.
Starting point is 01:36:03 Rob Leonard and Clint Kubiak might quietly be a really good pairing of coordinators. So, like, again, like Raiders, you want like an adult football team. You want an adult franchise. Like, this is the closest thing to an adult, for a Raiders franchise that I've seen in 20 years. And the best thing about it is the fact that Kurt is playing this way, it can just keep the franchise at ease, just kind of knowing what you have coming in after Kirk,
Starting point is 01:36:27 whenever the wheels fall off or whatever happens, the longer they can keep him and get him grounded. Fernando, just the foundation and learn and like just be on the sideline, calling plays like he's doing and helping out and doing all that right now. That's going to work wonders when he does have to, get thrown in the fire. But the fact that Kirk is playing the way he is right now and they can just worry about that and worry about winning games in the moment, I think that is going to be great for the, for the, for the, for the Raiders. And maybe I was just a year early last year on them.
Starting point is 01:37:01 This is the yeah. Yeah, yeah, you were a year early. I was thinking about. This is what you were envisioning. But, but, you know, I do want to say like, as I saw in the comments, like the Herbert looks how a quarterback is supposed to look, Dan Arlofsky, 2006, like, Dan, Dan, Dan, Dan's problem is Dan is too honest. Like everybody thinks that. That's like Herbert, if you, if you watch Herbert throw a football, it's like, oh my God, like, you know, I'm envisioning the scouts watching him throw the football. Yeah, like if he goes on the floor. Yeah. And you know what? Like that's not a, that's not a, you know, a take anchoring thing. That's not like you there are moments where you're like, God damn, that guy should take over the league. But he hasn't. But he hasn't. But he hasn't.
Starting point is 01:37:43 but he hasn't. I don't know if that's what Dan was saying, but I thought Dan got kind of killed this week. And like, listen, I disagree with the Jalen Hertz part of it, where he was like, that's not what it's supposed to look like. I know what people are accusing him of meaning. I think there have been, when Jalen was a young quarterback, I didn't like what I saw.
Starting point is 01:38:02 Like I, you know, when he was, his first couple years, until he took off and became the guy that we know now, like I wasn't sure. So like, the thing about Herbert, it is, he's tantalizing. And I don't know if we're going to look up in five years and say, damn, the Chargers wasted his prime, but he has a hand in it too. And that's what the people that don't admit that drive people crazy. Do you think it's, you know, like you can, the content creators and the analysts that can't get off the thing, drive me crazy. Like, I would not be
Starting point is 01:38:36 surprised if at some point he's, he's, he's a force again. And then you got to win in the playoffs, which you haven't done. But I'm not going to sit here and hitch my wagon to this team or this quarterback. No more, dude. No more. You know? And I said at the end of the last season because I thought, oh, we'd have the tackles healthy and they'll hire the right coordinator.
Starting point is 01:38:58 But, you know, fool me twice or three times. Shame on me. So I'm not doing that. Not at all. What are we going to say, Reed? I was just to say, do you think it's frustrating because, like as fans, you know, from a fan's perspective, because Herbert has shown that ability,
Starting point is 01:39:18 like the Broncos game last year when he's getting taken down by Benito, he's fire 45 degrees to the ground and fires a seed to Keenan Allen, and he shows that ability, and then he comes out and plays, you know, against the Cardinals and the race. I don't know if he's a great processor. Yeah. Like I really have that question in my head, which is so much of football and it's so much of the,
Starting point is 01:39:42 the invisible, you know, skill set of a quarterback, like the decision-making and the processing. How does he see the game? You know how Patrick Mahomes sees the game? Patrick Mahomes sees the game. Patrick Mahomes plays like a fucking genius. Patrick Mahomes is like a fucking... It looks like it's... Like he's a Rubik's Cube level guy. But he's got that three-dimensional, like four-dimensional or whatever Andy Reid said, like he sees the game in another dimension, dude. Like, and, you know, he makes decisions like last night when he knows the situation and it's second and long, he tucks and picks and picks up a safe four yards to make it third and two. Like it's just every little decision he makes is intentional.
Starting point is 01:40:26 And I don't know that once the ball snap, Justin Herbert is able to process like those guys. I don't think Josh Allen's a genius, but I think he's got that backyard ball genius. Okay. Like, I think Lamar Jackson's got that. that backyard ball genius, I think both those guys have a feel for the game that is like second to none. And Joe Burroughs one of those guys and the whole thing, but like, I don't think Herbert has that at this point. And I'm not sure you can teach it. So, I mean, we'll see.
Starting point is 01:40:57 That to me is a big part of it. So as we go from one, you know, take hand grenade of a quarterback to the next, let's talk about the Eagles, baby. Man, I just want to say this. First off, perfectly in case, this is, there's more that I wanted to see from the passing offense over the first two weeks of the season than I expected. Like I'm excited actually about what I see from the passing offense. And there's equal parts Jalen and the scheme.
Starting point is 01:41:34 And it's also equal parts of the receivers they have outside. Like I'm really excited about those guys. I thought Jalen played fantastic outside those two throws. And if you lose the game, you know how it works. The story's going to be those two throws, as good as you played. But the thing that separates Jalen from a lot of guys, and this is the thing I've always said about Jalen, I don't care where you place him.
Starting point is 01:41:58 I might not place him high as some people would place him in the quarterback tiers or whatever, but you can't argue with the results and the winning. And so if you're winning, your worst plays are absolved, right? Like you want to clean that stuff up. You know, balls underthrown in the red zone at the goal line. I thought that was a tough read, you know. But man, he threw balls with anticipation.
Starting point is 01:42:24 He worked the middle of the field. I mean, there was a dot that he threw on the logo to start the game. You know, they were working concepts and areas of the field that they have not worked customarily over the past 300 and, you know, 400 days of Eagles football. Like you go back to last year, which, you know, we can wipe the slate clean because Petulah was ass, right? I have more concerns about the run game and the front in the run game than I really do about the passing game at this point, which is like, I guess good news because
Starting point is 01:43:00 quarterbacks, when they play like that, can overcome a lot of deficiencies. And the last drive was spectacular. So in a week where we, you know, Dan O'Aloffsky got killed and, of course, like, and the media does this, bro. You know, they pit quarterbacks against each other, analysts, you know, like, you know, why don't you give this guy credit this guy? Quarterbacks have become like politics, and I kind of hate it. I just want people to analyze the game. And when you, when you take a step back and look at this tape, I think Jalen will. was really good.
Starting point is 01:43:35 And, you know, I just want to shout out Don Tavia and Wix. Because Wixie, and the other thing is Jalen looks more physically comfortable tucking and running this year. He looks quicker. Like, and that's a big part of his game. Beautiful throws to Wix, bro. And all of them are basically on third and fourth down. I mean, Wicks caught all his passes on money downs.
Starting point is 01:44:00 There was a, you know, a third and five in the red zone where they went to Wix. I thought was awesome. Spread elements kind of showing up in this offense a little bit more, which I think probably is good for Jalen. He's one of the most elite man-beaters in the league, quiet as kept, Don Tavia and Wicks, coming out of Green Bay. And when you talk about now
Starting point is 01:44:20 adding like Cooper and, you know, Goddard's hurt now, so you see how they adjusts that. But Smitty's bona fide number one. He was incredible. I think he went for 100 yards yesterday. But Wicks is the story to me. all his catches on third and fourth down 11.8 EPA on average. I mean, just a machine. And Jalen, through two games, has found a guy that I think he loves.
Starting point is 01:44:45 And I think the city, I'll say this about Wixie. I tweeted this last night. Like, the city is going to love Don Tavia and Wix. I know they already do, but he is the perfect type of eagle. Like he just puts his head down and fucking works. He doesn't say two words, dude. And I've known Wicks since he was at Virginia and one of my best friends, Marcus Hagan,
Starting point is 01:45:04 is his wide receivers coach. And I'm really happy for him. You know, in Green Bay, he had the drops a little bit. You know, that kid went through a lot. There were some things that happened at Virginia's tragedies with his wide receiver room where a couple of his friends were killed. And like, just seeing that whole thing unfold in real time
Starting point is 01:45:23 with close proximity to it, he's one of my favorite people and players. And so I'm really excited that he found a way to wind up on a team that absolutely needs him. and we'll get a lot of mileage out of him. I think, you know, for a receiver, the first two games of the year, there's so much confidence it goes
Starting point is 01:45:39 and not just the quarterback having confidence in you, but the confidence you have in yourself. And so I'm really excited for him. But look at, Go third and six on the two-minute drive. Look at his release out of the stack. Dude, it was, I mean, he is just, he's very underrated.
Starting point is 01:45:57 And, you know, one of the rare balls that might be not perfect in this game was slightly underthrown. He comes back for it. makes a big play. But I just thought Jalen was money beating the blitz, beating man coverage in two minute. I thought just being able to get the ball off
Starting point is 01:46:13 on what I thought was going to be a grounding for sure or a sack in two minute, which would have put them behind the sticks and changed the math a little bit for them when it comes to having a chance to win that game. Like just being able to get that ball off. So there was a lot to love when you look at the offense. The stuff you don't love is the offensive line struggles.
Starting point is 01:46:32 You know, like, you know, and essentially when you move Juergens to guard, you're replacing two players. And, Reed, we talked about this yesterday, like Stout's line of thinking wasn't always like, hey, we're going to replace the, we're going to disrupt the least amount of positions that we can. Right. We're going to switch two positions rather than just one. Yes. And so, you know, that kind of showed up in this game. I think, you know, Jurgens had a rough one. They're also playing Jeffrey Simmons in this front.
Starting point is 01:47:01 Like this defense is is improved a little bit. And so, you know, like this is another scheme coordinator, Robert Sala, I said this in the preview, that has given Jalen fits. And in this game, he found a way to beat this, you know, the head honcho, Robert Sala, the roots of the tree that have been given him fits. So, but the offensive line in the run game, like the run game schematically better than last year, I think Mannion's finding a way. He's finding his way, but just not good enough. And like you kind of look at this offensive line. Like I've always referred to them as kind of the straw that stirred the drink through the championship runs and that sort of thing. It's not the same group.
Starting point is 01:47:45 And they got to hit the curveball a little bit with some of these interior players. And, you know, before that game winning drive is another thing like the resilient nature of Jalen and, you know, the big moment was they had 66 yards and three points. so far in the second half. So you want to see them be able to, you know, step on people's throats and pull away. But it's set up for a brilliant finish where you go to length of the field in under two minutes. And, I mean, he was dotting them, picking them apart. So huge game from the Eagles passing offense. You want to see the run game be better.
Starting point is 01:48:20 And I also thought like, hey, I'm going to go back and I'll put this in the Wednesday pod. Kim Ward did some good things, man. You know, like, this is a good defense. I think Cam Ward, like, I'm a believer in Cam Ward. So I think when I see Cam Ward, I think that's what a quarterback's supposed to look like. You see what I'm saying? I mean, that dude's got tools. And so he's just not, he needs help.
Starting point is 01:48:52 It's going to be a process. But just to be able to go down and tie the football game and make, and, and, and, and, and, some of the plays he did. I will break it down a little bit more on Wednesday and also the Eagles defense because I did not get to the all 22 on that. Jalen Carter had a big play though and that's what you want to see from a guy that you just paid you know. And week one, I thought he could have played better. Cam Ward forcing himself in for that for that Russian touchdown and then immediately getting in, who was it, Jordan Davis or Carter's face? Jordan Davis. Jordan Davis face and just barking at him a little bit and just seeing the size difference and just like you said
Starting point is 01:49:27 be like hey when you see that from your quarterback getting fired up like that has to as a teammate like for a team like the titans and make you feel like a little bit good and like hey like we have a guy who's really who really wants to win who really wants to help us excel and is is yeah i do want to say this because i have pet peeves i have a ton of them one of them is like people that think they know what's going on but they don't, which is like everywhere. It's everywhere. But the Jeffrey Simmons thing, and I know Eagles fans, like, they want to feed the, they want to feed this machine. We have said that about countless quarterbacks going into a game. We got to make him be a quarterback. Fans are so caught up in these, because quarterback analysis now among
Starting point is 01:50:18 fans and and analysts is like it's identity politics dude it's it's seriously it's it's hey i got a side and i'm going to defend my side and i'm going to and i got to tear the other side down or i got a favorite quarterback and you know everybody else is everybody else is shit and my quarterback's awesome and things i detract from other quarterbacks about they don't count with my quarterback um people got so up in arms about it but they never consider and this is why i say ban quote cards it's like the Cam Scadaboo quote on Aaron Donald where he's like I want to meet him at the goal line if so be it like if I got to stop him at third and one so be it well it's on the tail end of a complimentary quote about Aaron Donald and how great he is and just the fact that Cam
Starting point is 01:51:00 Scadaboo has got a job to do yeah and he can't be like enamored with Aaron Donald being on the field but when you read the quote it sounds like oh this motherfucker's calling out Aaron Donald you know and and sports media has gotten to that point now where people just and people's and their radar is shitty. So they don't think things through. Jeffrey Simmons quote was, we got to keep him in the pocket because Jalen Hertz is dangerous
Starting point is 01:51:26 when he breaks the pocket. We don't have the cover guys behind us to hold up in coverage. If we're going to play man, you got to keep this guy in the pocket. He's got, he's dangerous with his legs. Jeffrey Simmons is not saying
Starting point is 01:51:38 what everyone thought he was saying. And you could tell after the game, it's all love. And even down to like, even if he was, He's good enough. He can say shit like that because he backs it up. He backs it up.
Starting point is 01:51:48 He plays well. So like even if he did mean that, he's one of the guys that kid. But he didn't mean that. Yeah. And somebody in the comment goes, it's not just fans. Bro. Jalen said you started that shit. I finished it.
Starting point is 01:52:02 You read that wrong too. Buddy boy. Like he's saying that Jalen, they were on, they were on Jalen's ass at points in this game. And, and Jeffrey Simmons cleaned his clock. I think there was a lot of respect in that in that exchange and anybody who's played in the league and played defensive line that that read the whole quote somebody pulled the whole the whole quote up is not taking that the wrong way no neither is it just I don't think Galen was either no absolutely not if you see the exchange at the end of the game I just feel like it was all respect and that's why also I feel like maybe Jeffrey Simmons felt like it was getting it might have got blown out of proportion a little too much too and that's why just out of respect he's going over to be like I'm not running from this hey like what's up like they're they're blowing this out
Starting point is 01:52:54 of proportion dog there are some dumb asses but also too there's people there's people never like they haven't played a sport they've never been in a locker room they've never played a sport they've never they've never had the thought of like having respect for your opponent like without like actually knowing them or whatever it is they also don't know that that's an ism in d-line They don't know that that's an ism in fucking, you could say that about, we say that about Lamar Jackson. When you play Lamar Jackson, you want to make him be a quarterback. They keep him in the pocket, dude. That's, that's all, that's all they're saying. But it's just, and the fan base has gotten this way where they're so sensitive, every fan base is,
Starting point is 01:53:38 but I've noticed this a lot with the quarterback discourse. And at times, it's warranted because people discount Jalen to the point where they say Philly needs a new quarterback so so your condition to be like we're our guys under attack which at times he is but in this in this scenario it's really not Jeffrey Simmons and this is a rant that has nothing to do with the breakdown but it's a pet peeve of mine when people just run with something it's a lot like the Dallas Turner thing yesterday where I'm getting text where it's like he's unblockable and then you search his name on Twitter this morning and you would think he was Bruce Smith people don't know what they don't know they don't know they don't know and that's okay but I think this was a big deal for the Eagles but I would go on the
Starting point is 01:54:24 road it was everything's clickbait a hundred and fifty seven degrees on the turf this was not an easy football game for anybody out there cleats were melting and and when when a team's when a team's playing at home early in the season it's hot as fuck they're wearing their cool uniforms they look great They're, you know, it's a, this is the, if the Titans end up being bad, so be it. But a bad team's always the best, the first four games of the season because they think they can be good. You know, there's still a lot of hope for that team. And the Eagles went in and squashed it, dude. It's so hard to lead that drive at the end of the game.
Starting point is 01:55:01 That place is loud. So this was a, this was a great game from the Eagles. And you touched on it earlier, I think the greatest asset that Jalen Hertz has, regardless of any type of mistakes he makes in any game, at any point. When a game is on the line and he has the ball in his hand, it's one of those things where he just knows how to win. Yeah. He knows how to figure it out and he knows how to win.
Starting point is 01:55:23 And all the bad plays that, just like you said, that you're just waiting to maybe shit on him about and be like, this is why we lost this game. He finds a way to win it and then you're just like, damn. Like, what can I say now? Shout out to a warrior's rage. Yes, because the only people who have ever played a sport is Chris Long. In this chat, yeah, the only person who's played defensive line in the NFL and been asked about opposing quarterbacks is Chris Long. You're right.
Starting point is 01:55:51 Bo's in the chat. Is Bo is a Warriors' rage? I don't think so. No, I don't think so. So, yeah, if you're an Eagles fan, that's a positive, man. Like, I know it's a close game in Tennessee covered, but, like, I told you it wasn't going to be easy there. And you got to be happy all the time, whether you think your team is good or bad to win close games in the NFL, like even if you feel bad about the Eagles and how they're playing
Starting point is 01:56:17 right now, two and no. It's winning until you stop winning, like I said, that's it. If that game, if we didn't have, let's say somebody fumbled the first play of that game winning drive, the narrative would be Jalen played poorly. Yep. Even though he did a lot of great things, he made two backbreaking mistakes. And it would have been warranted to say. he needed to play better.
Starting point is 01:56:44 But winning is the most important thing. That's it. And until the team can't win with the quarterback, then it doesn't matter. And Jalen proved once again that he has the clutch gene, which is really important in quarterbacking and in sports. It might be like one of the most important. Most important thing, yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:01 Like, okay, and the other thing is, somebody just asked about what's it look like without AJ Brown. I mean, like, I do think he might be playing more free. I think he might be playing more free. I think you do force targets to your best. receiver and right now like Devante Smith is a dominant one but he doesn't have the personality of like give me the ball and also you have a number two who's really good
Starting point is 01:57:20 you have a number two is really good you've got other outlets you got Sequin out of the backfield you got Cooper you got or you have fuck I mean like they're more well-rounded so yeah um okay uh let's go to the ad read oh to the ad read create one thing I've learned since retiring is recovery used to be the thing that got you to Sunday. Now recovery is the goal. Creatine plus electrolytes is what makes tomorrow possible. Nobody's paying me to be sore anymore. I train so I can get up off the floor with my kids pile on me. I have a three-year-old daughter who my kids watched Little Giants recently and they were like, yo, she's icebox, dude. Like she is going to kill me one of these days, dude. Like she, if I don't get a scholarship out of her,
Starting point is 01:58:09 something's wrong. So, uh, I do get that. sore and you know the the big part for me is it's not just physical as mental like I'm tired like we are working our asses off here and I'm watching a lot of tape and I'm having to be you know I'm having to be locked in and creatine can really help me like honestly it really does help me if I miss a dose I kind of feel a little bit of that brain fog you know my ADHD kind of rears his ugly head a little bit and and you know creatine is not a it's not a medication for that but but it definitely helps me with the clarity of mine. And so it's one of the most studied supplements of all time.
Starting point is 01:58:47 It actually helps you keep your muscle on like I'm still in the gym, even though you might not be able to tell I'm still in the gym. And in the package, you get creatine plus electrolytes. And you get a little bit of taurine too. If you take creatine, I gave my wife some the other day. And she was like, man, like I almost didn't eat a cup of coffee. And like when I tell you, she can't operate without a cup of coffee, she can't. So as a guy who doesn't do caffeine or anything like that,
Starting point is 01:59:11 creatine helps me a bunch of. NSF Certify for Sport Third party tested every batch made with Crea Pure. I train hard, I get dehydrated, I get depleted, and I want to recover faster. That's why I take creatine. So anyways, yeah, creatine's sick, man.
Starting point is 01:59:32 It really is. We are, we've got one more game I want to talk about before we get to the Bermuda Triangle and that is Jets, and Packers. And I told you about these dogs last week.
Starting point is 01:59:48 Jets covered. I don't know if any of y'all care about gambling, but if you watch the Picks show, we said the Jets would cover. They really should have won this game outright, but they kind of, the Uno Reverse situation. It was like a movable object,
Starting point is 02:00:01 unstoppable force with the LaFleur-led Packers and the Glenn-led jets. Like, the Jets are like, oh, it's a copycat league. We'll blow a fucking game. Easy. We're the Jets, dude. We're up 10 in the fourth quarter.
Starting point is 02:00:13 Like, who cares? Like, we haven't been here before, but I think we got this handled, right? You watch the Jets. I see where they got a lot better. I still think they are. And Deb just brought it up, talking about Devin McCordy.
Starting point is 02:00:26 Like, the Jets are going to be a tough out this year, but the coaching was abhorrent in this game. Like, the situational football was abhorrent. I thought Gino threw the ball well in the rain. Like, he had some really nice shots down the field whether they were caught or not caught. They couldn't run the football. You know, I came away,
Starting point is 02:00:47 let me, Ryan Rusillo for a second, I came away more impressed with the Packers' run defense and just the physicality of the group. And we said this last week while I was admonishing them for blowing another game. And I don't know if they got that out of their system
Starting point is 02:00:58 or what, but like, you know, there were moments in week one game against the Vikings who I think are a good football team, well-coached football team, where I said, oh, man, I really miss this one. Like, I think the Packers could be really good. Like, they have, and I'll go down a list on defense,
Starting point is 02:01:14 but like the middle of the field for them defensively is, is stout. I was really stout. Starting with Cooper, Edger and Cooper, and I said this yesterday, like, you know,
Starting point is 02:01:24 the first thing Nolan said when he watched the tape was like, man, like watch Cooper. I got to watch Cooper. It's, I mean, like, it's everything you saw last year plus the on ball stuff.
Starting point is 02:01:33 When he's on ball, like he looks like he's been doing it his whole life. Like whether he's, he's out of the edge of the defense or, he just, just to me in a league where if you Google, who is the second best linebacker on the planet right now, Google tells you is Roquan Smith and Carson Swessinger.
Starting point is 02:01:54 I don't think so. I think it's Edgaring Cooper. I think Edgaring Cooper should be a household name and it won't be long before he is. What does Google say? Fred Warner and Roecon Smith. Yeah. Juan Smith and Carson Swessinger.
Starting point is 02:02:08 There is a Fred Warner, the delta between Fred Warner and the rest of the league of linebacker is enormous. Cooper's the only guy in his hemisphere. I mean, he strung out a toss play at one point where you remember this play? He went to Phil front side agap and then like doubled back and beat everyone to the ball. And he had to loop to get there. He just, he's a knife when he wants to be. He's rangy. He's physical. He'll knock your block off. Dude, I love Edgron Cooper. One of my favorite players in the league. Zair has been good for them, dude. Gannon, spent time with Gannon.
Starting point is 02:02:46 We had Zaire Franklin on the show. Gannon sung his praises. I think Gannon's doing a good job. C-Saysay is how we're saying his name outside. Like, he flashed a little bit. So, you know, like he's a big physical corner, or he's going to try to be. They have a physical defense.
Starting point is 02:03:03 I got Evan Williams in the middle, McKinney, Bollard. They're just, they're just, Brooks played well yesterday. Lucas Van S, to me, if that's how he's gonna play this year, they sorely need him to play like that. And it'd be one of the biggest jumps I've seen a player make in his fourth year or whatever it is. I think it's his fourth year.
Starting point is 02:03:27 But like, hey, I've watched him the first couple years, and I've been like, yeah, he's a project. Maybe he doesn't have that highest ceiling. But like the way he played yesterday, not to do the white guy thing, but he's man, a little Vandenbosch to him, dude. I freaking liked the way he played yesterday. He won some pass rush reps.
Starting point is 02:03:47 He had some big stops in the run game. Again, like people are making a big deal out of Dallas Turner. Look at Lucas Van S's tape. Nine tackles, eight pressures, a sack and a half, and three run stuff. Man, he was good. So, you know, like I got to say, I like Gannon, like the middle of his defense. When they get Michael Parsons back, they're going to be tough on defense. But the offense, again, like the offensive line is bordering on.
Starting point is 02:04:12 prohibitive. To go where you're trying to go, and I don't know what happened to Zach Baco-Buele, formerly Zach Tom, but that's a huge loss. He's your industry standard tackle, and you don't have a bunch of good players up front.
Starting point is 02:04:32 And so that worries me. You know, Reed, left the game early with a neck. That was scary. He's got moving his extremities. I don't know how long he'll be out, but he's important to them. So it puts a lot of pressure on Matthew Golden, dude. Like Matthew Golden's got to play big.
Starting point is 02:04:47 And, you know, he had a bad drop early in this game. You know, those plays show up for him. Listen, I got to believe it to – I got to see it to believe it with the offense. But, boy, did they do what they had to do in crunch time? I mean, you know, the overtime situation, getting the ball and going down and scoring, and, you know, like, impressive with the game on the line, and especially for a team that last week tricked it off. But I do want to talk about what the Jets didn't do.
Starting point is 02:05:19 There were so many flags in this game. First off, this was a hideous game. It was almost 300 guards, total sound of it. It was awful, dude. There were so many wet-ass yellow flags on the field. And my question is like, Aaron Glenn, what are you doing, man? I got to be honest as I can't. I root for all defensive coaches.
Starting point is 02:05:36 I root for Aaron Glenn I think he was a good coordinator in Detroit although you know like fan bases always have there yeah but he always did this shit what got him killed yesterday because the defense actually have got some pieces on that defense
Starting point is 02:05:53 and they play hard but the game management was like that's the shit that gets you fired I hate to say it but it kind of feels like Frank Reich is going to be coaching this football team at some point this year and I don't know if there's one more situation like this away and people might say oh well they didn't give them a chance or what have you man it's
Starting point is 02:06:18 hard to argue on my guy's behalf when you make the decisions that you made yesterday I hated I hated the overtime decision hated it like everything tells you you do it the other way because you get more downs, you know what you need to do, and you can win the game. The fact that he said, I wanted to kill clock was like it got worse after the game. If you went to the podium, I just lie. Just fucking lie, dude.
Starting point is 02:06:56 I think he's a tremendous human being. I think that's one of his best qualities, like the person he is, like he was a great player. He was a good coordinator and guys love him, But like to get up there and be like, yeah, I wanted to chew clock in a game where you couldn't run the ball worth of shit. Like, so really what you're doing is setting your fucking defense up to play with the game on the line against the superior play caller in Matt LaFleur. I thought that was just awful. The OT decision.
Starting point is 02:07:25 And then, you know, the other thing that I think is like slightly forgivable, but still the wrong call is no time out at the end of regulation. It's fourth and five. They could have called a timeout with 57 seconds ago. Force at least a decision or a punt. Now, devil's advocate or Aaron Glenn's advocate, and Aaron Glenn needs a advocate in this situation, but I'll do it. Green Bay still had two timeouts,
Starting point is 02:07:51 so you're an incompletion away or a three-and-out away from giving them the ball back in midfield with timeouts possibly and being in the same situation where you're defending a game-winning field goal under 30 seconds or something like that. Part of the thinking for me is you force them to kick you the ball, right? Because even if you're backed up, at least you hold the cards.
Starting point is 02:08:13 You can run the football if you don't like the looks. You can force them to take their timeouts. The most important first down is the first one, right? So if you get the ball on like the 15, you get to the 30 with a first down, then you can make a decision. Then you're one chunk play away, right? but like to just say hey we didn't want the ball like that to me doesn't add up the math doesn't math you at least force them to punt the ball and then the other thing is and this is where
Starting point is 02:08:43 i think they lost the game third and two at the 48 with two minutes ago green bay's been kicking your ass up front they're mugged up everybody's at the line of scrimmage you call a gun run into it fucking unforgivable dude at that point you have a chance to win this game in regulation and you don't take it and then you go fourth down you do the same fucking thing how can you be so aggressive there not aggressive in in that situation at the end of the game and then in overtime say oh i wanted to chew clock like what are you doing and then before the half they were third and 11 backed up and i'm cussing at him to run the ball but they find a way to get over like midfield
Starting point is 02:09:29 because Gino's got the arm for it and they hit some outs and some chunk plays. So like at the end of the first half, you're backed up, it's third and 11, and you're trying to go score under a minute and a half to go or whatever it is. But then in that situation, like you're not aggressive. So I don't know if Aaron Glenn knows who he is situationally
Starting point is 02:09:49 as a football coach and that's so much of what being a head coach is. And that to me is what will hold this team back from being one of those. surprise teams like you put Mike Tomlin you take Mike Tomlin out of the booth and put him in a headset and he's coaching the Jets. Oh they're a better team like they're they're they're kind of tough to beat and uh because they have enough players they really do but this was this was a bad bad look for for and and uh yeah so i listen they held the packers to what under how many yards of offense 200 mm-hmm one one one
Starting point is 02:10:26 That's a good day at the office. Like you're, we should be talking about Aaron Glenn did a great job defensively. He's a defensive head coach, but instead we're talking about not only the bad decisions he made, but the incomprehensible reasoning for these bad decisions. The Jets became the first team since 1941 to lose a game despite holding opponents to less than 200 yards. Uh, the opponent having a hundred plus penalty yards and a positive turnover margin. And entering today, teams were 44 and 0 in that spot and the Jets had been 15 and 0 in
Starting point is 02:10:56 franchise history when holding teams under 200 yards of all unbelievable yep the jets to be i did drop my nuts though and gave out the jets and it was a winner and i was very afraid that the packers were going to go and score that touchdown and overtime and i i would have felt cheated because they played competitively they had the lead in the second half they had a chance to put this game away they didn't do it dang jets jets could have been two and oh they could have been two and oh could have been two and and honestly like again it's more like hey what if they had tomlin or somebody like that like with the way some of these wild card teams look you just never know you can't tell me this team can't beat new england once or twice absolutely can any given sunday so but i definitely think gino's a good look for them and
Starting point is 02:11:42 if they figure out some of the situational footballs and how to win games yeah i think gino is a capable quarterback he looked good and that defense looks good enough with that matching on offense that they can do some stuff if they learn how to play some complimentary football together. But the coach has got to be in on it too. And I just, man, I don't understand all that. So, hey, I think we're going to go to the Bermuda Triangle here in a second. The Bermuda Triangle, where football games disappear. I don't know, Jim. This one might disappear. My dog, Kevin Harlan, story time, reached out to Kevin Harlan, like, got his number and texted him
Starting point is 02:12:23 and said, hey, like, will you, will you do a voice thing for our Bermuda Triangle segment? He was like, oh, I kind of like that segment. So I have another tweet I want to read, or Nolan, maybe you can read the tweet while I get situated. Yep. I'm pulling it up here. Read has it up here. Oh, I'll read it. Fuck it, because I can read.
Starting point is 02:12:50 All right. This is from Bill Simmons, my dog, Bill Simmons. The Bucks Browns game disappeared. Deshawn kept in. inexplicably completing passes and launched the fourth quarter into the Bermuda Triangle, it might never come back. That is, that's perfectly put because these two teams are in the Bermuda Triangle today. We got the Bucks and the Browns are covered in this segment here.
Starting point is 02:13:16 I want to start with the adult football teams in the Bermuda Triangle. They're like, kind of like maybe they just, they're not supposed to be here, but they're there. It's not an indictment on them. Seattle, Arizona. I thought Seattle, this was just an adult football team win, dude. They were grown folks' business. You know, you have Arizona who's coming off a game where they shocked the world. They look great.
Starting point is 02:13:42 They certainly on paper have the weapons to be able to stress you offensively, you know, especially the tight end. And I think Jacoby Brissette is good enough to steal a couple wins this year. but Seattle with the rest advantage and Arizona who played as many snaps as anybody in the league week one quiet as kept was a prime victim they were victim wait for Seattle dude like if I could have given out another if I could have given out another if I could have given out another game this was this was the first the number one game because drew lock honestly drew lock some unlucky or lucky fan base might be might be looking at drew lock as their starting quarterback in a year or two the way he's handling this you know how this happens guys go out to the west coast and um and they get they get they get rehabed you know like baker got rehabbed in la and look what that's led to um you know you got guys that go sam darnald spends time in san francisco says i've never i've never fucking i've never learned i'd never learned like
Starting point is 02:14:52 post-snap football or like how to read pre-snap defenses. But I'm like, you've been, you're one of the top picks in the draft. And nobody ever taught you how to read coverage to that degree. You had to go to Shanahan camp to learn that. And then, you know, a year or two later, he's winning a Super Bowl. So I think the point is, like, Drew Locke can win this football team games while Sam Darnold gets back. And the defense is just ferocious, man. Like, you know, we were looking at injury designations through the week, and like the Cardinals had both their guards were doubtful or questionable. And, you know, it's just coming into a game like that,
Starting point is 02:15:31 whether they play or not, you're just like, you're puckered up thinking about what's the teeth of this defense look like in this matchup. And, you know, every time I looked at the TV, Leonard Williams and these guys are just making dominant plays up front. So I thought Seattle just took care of business. And eventually it damn broke. here's another thing. I don't know if this checks out, but last, you know, last week, this new coordinator, uh,
Starting point is 02:15:56 for Seattle, like, uh, he really impressed Mike McDonald in preseason. He said, this guy's is smart as any coach I've been around. I'm learning things from him. And, uh, I felt like in the second half of this game, they made adjustments in the run game that were really fruitful. Like early in the game, I didn't think the run game was, was cooking. Um, but every time you looked in the second half, they were breaking off a chunk. So the adjustments keep looking at that to see like, hey, are they really good at making the adjustments at the half and coming out with a better plan?
Starting point is 02:16:31 Because some coordinators aren't, right? Like some coordinators are really good game playing guys, they concept guys or whatever, but like when the bullets start flying, they can't adjust. And Seattle, I think, as through this, so far in this young season, they adjusted to the loss of Sam Darnold.
Starting point is 02:16:47 and obviously Cores, blitz packages and all the things that put him on the map last year in New England and made Drew Locke look like a winning quarterback week one and week two. They took care of business in the second half. So I was really excited to see that for Seattle. They're kind of the team that nobody's talking about. You know, like everybody's talking about us included like all these AFC teams or the Rams or, you know, and they were the champions for a reason, dude. like they've got that metal about them and to come out look at how the chargers have handled playing
Starting point is 02:17:21 two two cupcakes early in the season Seattle's hit every curveball that's been thrown their way so far this young season so they don't deserve to be in the triangle but they are the other adult football team I talked about how San Francisco was in Australia so long Mike Evans came back with an accent they they did not look like a team that was jet lagged and you know I think part of this is a Miami indictment where like Miami's really that bad like okay they're really that bad like you know there's some people that wanted to get cute maybe and say hey like the wind total's three and a half like why not like that could be fun to root for the dolphins every week I don't Greg Camarillo ain't walking through that door they might go oh and 17 I'm not saying you know like so you think the
Starting point is 02:18:08 charges get a win before the dolphins who the dolphins play next week well I just said they might go and 17 but yeah three and a half is really high yeah we're Kansas City Minnesota Cincinnati then they have their by week week six Cincinnati if you catch them on a bad day they get the jets well Jets in week seven now they're a trap game for everybody everybody's look at the week after it's it's just you can do things you can do things at will to this front like they're just if you can run the ball you're going to be able to do whatever you want like and and yeah
Starting point is 02:18:45 like a fifth of their team is rookies and you know it's it's a fun get to know you exercise every time you turn on the tape and you know there's some some exciting young players but like they're going to go through hell this year and i think it's nice that they play in miami because you know quality of life's pretty good like you know it'd be tough to say be in st louis on a team like this um dolphins highest paid players this season you want me go on a list do it two of Tagaviloa, 55.4 M's. Dariq Hill, who's, his leg snapped in half, and it's almost already healed, but they're still paying him. 28.2 million. Jalen Waddle, you saw him play yesterday for the Denver Broncos, 23.2 million. Jalen Ramsey, 20.9 million.
Starting point is 02:19:36 Where is he? He's in Pittsburgh. Mink of Fitzpatrick, who didn't play yesterday for the Jets, but he's on the payroll for 13 mil. And then, uh, Zach Seeler, 11.4. He's still on the dolphins, although he doesn't look like the Zach Seeler. I know. He's 31, man. Like, it's, you know, it's hard out here for a pimp. And then Bradley Chubb, uh, $11 million. He's on the, the bills. And then Taryn Arnstead has a fantastic podcast now, like a couple of years running. So, uh, yo, good to be Taryn Aramstead. You don't really care about the P&Ls of the podcast. Right. Like me personally right now, I'm like, I'm looking at every line item. But, you know, parent arm said he could just you know that whole thing so um this was my favorite quote of the game malique willis on the td pass to ryan miller i'm sure all of you were familiar with ryan miller before that happened malik what is my favorite quote i felt good for ryan i didn't
Starting point is 02:20:37 feel good for the miami dolphins i fucking love malik willis i think what's the they're doing to Malik Willis, it's like a sci-op, dude. We all think he can be a good quarterback in this league, but no one's going to succeed in this situation in Miami. And it sucks because, you know, people like me who like Malik were looking forward to this year possibly. There was a time where I was like, oh, his weapons are going to be pretty good. Like they got Jalen Waddle. They got A-Cann. They got two really good offensive linemen. They're going to add Proctor in the draft. Like, you know, maybe but no it the dolphins are terrible Cleveland and Tampa holy shit bro Tampa if you don't get the fuck out of my face with all this with all these expectations I I cannot anymore with this
Starting point is 02:21:32 team and I hate to say it that might be the take dude because when you look at Baker Mayfield paying him was at least in part speculative it was speculative on a on account of him playing more like the guy we saw more than a year ago right like he's had these windows where he's looked very good but he's also had these long stretches where he's looked like a guy you don't hit your wagon to and over the past year he has not been a guy you hit your wagon to and you thought maybe the scheme would would fix it and maybe it will um you know like but i'm sorry you have to hit the throws i don't care if it's a monsoon out there you have to have to hit that throw to Abuka. I know it was Tess Johnson, I think, who he dotted in the corner of the
Starting point is 02:22:19 end zone, but, you know, like, Tess doesn't come down with the ball. The third down that led to the fourth down after this monster delay, go back and look at the tape. Godwin's sitting at the sticks wide open. Baker climbs the pocket. He pulls, he draws the defense up to the line of scrimmage. You got defenders coming off their coverage, and Godwin is open, dude, you, you, like, Josh Allen hits that throw. No, I know you're not, no one's saying he's Josh Allen, but like, fuck, man, like, you, you have to make some of these plays and like, you look, this is supposed to be a Baker revenge game. What's the point of all the chips? You know, like, you count the chips on your shoulders, man, like count the point total in the first half. I was on the first half over
Starting point is 02:23:04 the second half over team total, man. Like, what the fuck are we doing? You had two hours, Zach Robinson in the bowels of that stadium. And I'm not blaming everything on the scheme, but I'm just saying you had two hours to complete one drive on the Cleveland Browns to get on the board and get a win in this young season. And in that two-hour delay, you probably saw the Saints pull one out in fucking Baltimore. And you're saying, damn, that kind of looks like a franchise QB. And I know it's raining and the weather's inclement,
Starting point is 02:23:38 but like you should have done more when the sun was out you ever hear the saying make hay while the sun's shining very literally should have put that team away before the monsoon came but zach robinson had two hours dude to sit in the bowels of that stadium which was empty for much of the day it looked like on tv which is fucking insane so bucks fans feel the same way i do they come out and that's what you got to show for it i just i like this is bad bad and I'm just I'm fucking I'll come out and say it I'll say the thing that nobody wants to say to Sean Watson look good mm-hmm look right and I want to say I respect I respect the the hand that Monkin was dealt and how he's playing his cards right now can't be easy being in
Starting point is 02:24:27 that situation and hey to get a win I know it feels good for that organization and everyone involved god dude I mean like tails of weed smoker is spamming this chat dude I told you But you didn't tell me that the Jags would lose the bills last year. You see when you got to when you got to opine on 32 teams, I'm going to be wrong, but let me see your pick sheet. I might be wrong every once in a while, but holy shit, I get more right than I get wrong. The bucks are tantalizingly talented, but Baker, it seems like, is going to hold them back. And I'm ready to put them where I'm putting the chargers, if I'm being honest.
Starting point is 02:25:06 They're kind of the same. I think they have a better chance than the charges to get back in the saddle. But I just, I'm not going to sit here and stake my reputation or my, or my mental health on this team, dude. Like, they're just, they're just, and they got you stressed this early, bro? No, it's just I look at this team and I'm like, what are you doing? Like, and maybe it's Todd Bowles, but a lot of it, I think, is Baker, too.
Starting point is 02:25:28 And so that, that, that's, and the other thing is I saw some numbers on, I saw some numbers on, um, Baker, with and without Mike Evans. And it's not good. It's not good. Let me just trust me. It's not good. Like Mike Evans might be his security blanket.
Starting point is 02:25:48 And that dude's on the West Coast now. So not good. The other thing about San Francisco is they lost, quietly lost a couple more dudes in week two. I think DeMarcus Robinson? Oh, yeah. You know, like, man, I don't know what season. Look, pull that out.
Starting point is 02:26:06 Yeah, throw that on their. I don't want to read that whole thing. So I just, I'm looking at these numbers and I'm like, maybe we've all been fooled. But they paid him. And now they're locked into this thing for a little bit. Carolina and Arizona, man.
Starting point is 02:26:28 Oh, yeah. Hey, all my friends, my buddies in the chat, Tales of a Weed Smoke, where were you on Bryce Young? guy looks like fucking Joe Montana out there he looks like Joe Montana out there dude he he let me take a little victory lap like a tiny little victory lap on my dog
Starting point is 02:26:48 Bryce Young because he's playing himself into being the franchise quarterback for Carolina I love this guy he's never and Atlanta's dog shit dude Atlanta might win three games this year and and fuck dude they need to put out an amber alert for Drake London, dude. Like,
Starting point is 02:27:06 Drake, wide receiver abducted by terrible team whose quarterbacks include Tua, Michael Pennix. I don't know why it pisses me off when they show them. The way they're sitting on the bench together. Tua with his leg
Starting point is 02:27:23 cross and then Pinnock's with the duress. And it's just like, hey, man. Good news for us. Yeah. Atlanta's going from Bermuda Triangle to prime time. Yeah. Thursday night. They're playing in three prime time games, dude. The NFL needs to step in, dude. We don't need to see this. There's some things that don't need to be on TV. It's going to be an early season flex. And that's not even a flex you can do. You can't flex a Thursday night game with someone
Starting point is 02:27:46 else, can you? You do whatever you want. You do it. Hey, midterms are coming up. Trump's throwing everything at the fucking wall. Maybe he should cancel the Falcons, dude. Maybe he should cancel the Falcons. But I just, I look at, I look at this team and I'm like, I'm just, I don't know. I'm not going to talk about the Falcons. I was glazing Bryce Young. Bryce Young, Coker, McMillan, a little bit of a different look offensively that I'm excited to dive in and look at more. I think they, I think they've varied their run game a little bit. And I like, I like what it looks like. I mean, I think what happened week one is more of an aberration than it is every week. We'll see when they play better teams.
Starting point is 02:28:37 But I'm not putting them in the playoffs or anything like that, but I'm just telling you, like, I told you, Bryce from day one has dealt with all the adversity, the getting benched, the not getting extended. You know, the, you know, hey, you got to prove it to us. He's never once been like, hey, I've got a chip on my shoulder. I'm pissed off. Like, everybody's doubting me. He's just like, all right, well, I'll just go deal with the hand I'm dealt and try to win. And I think he's looked like over the past year a franchise quarterback, and I'm super excited for him. Because from what I see from a distance, and I did get to meet the short prints at the Super Bowl and dapped him up.
Starting point is 02:29:12 And it was a beautiful moment. But I don't know him personally. But I think he's a tremendous human being from what I can see. And he's got one of the prettiest quick releases in the game, dude. He throws on the move well He sees I compared him last week And I'm not going to do the poor man's thing
Starting point is 02:29:32 Because people take that personally But if you want like when Beau was asking me Who Bryce reminds Reminds reminds me of Of all the The greats If there's one guy I'm like he's got some of that in him
Starting point is 02:29:47 It's true breeze Like he's a shorter quarterback He's got good vision He can throw on the move well he's got a nice quick release uh the the arm strength isn't elite but boy does he dot people on the sidelines the outbreakers that every area of the field he can he can make the throws so i glaze over jack strand through the first pass of his young career pick six he joins now this is good news sam darnald and brett farv good company so get ready to hang the fucking banner atlanta
Starting point is 02:30:21 you got the guy this guy eventually You're going to win it all. The Falcons have not run a play in the Red Zone, and they're the first team to do that through two games since the 2008, St. Louis Rams. You were on that team. I was on that team. Man. So I'm just telling you.
Starting point is 02:30:43 What was your record that year? Man, it was like 1 in 15. Dang. When they dropped me into that thing, oh, I was like, oh, this is fucked up, man. Like, this is fucked up. You want me to do what? This is how you reward me being the second pick overall? This is what, that's what happens, dude.
Starting point is 02:31:02 This is how you get rewarded? But yeah, no. So, so, yeah, Bryce looked great and Atlanta's dog shit. Then how about that defense set a record last week giving up 59 points? Yes. And then this week only giving up three. Yeah, they are one week they were playing. The Bears, one week they were playing.
Starting point is 02:31:24 the Falcons. That's the only way I can explain that. So, um, but anyways, I'm going to leave the Bermuda triangle right now and, uh, take a little P break and you guys can, um, you guys can set up the mentions. I'll be right there. But remember, I got the Graziano Sack Award. Yeah. You know? The, uh, hopefully it's a, what is it for? The Sack Award. The Dan Graziano Sack Award. But lead us off, Nate, your best flight. Best flight. Let's do it. What did I have?
Starting point is 02:32:00 Oh, yeah, easy. Giving it to my guy. Tyler Shuck. Leaving Baltimore. Got to feel good, getting a win the way they did. Leaving Baltimore. And a nice flight out of BWI, heading down to New Orleans,
Starting point is 02:32:18 probably eating some oysters on the flight home, shucking them. shucking them, shucking them. But yeah, that's probably my best flight. It's a nice little two and a half hour flight. That's not bad at all. And then going back to New Orleans, you know something's popping when you get them to flight.
Starting point is 02:32:34 Something's popping in New Orleans, definitely for sure. Yeah, so you took the Saints. I'm going to go best flight. Let's go Raiders, short flight, man. And honestly, like, why would you fly home from a home game? her cousin said it sounded like a home game there. People in L.A. are not buying the Chargers, dude.
Starting point is 02:32:56 They barely are into football. I can't wait until they bring out the import fan, that lady. Where's she, when she's coming? That's the only person I could save the season. Remember the little Asian lady that used to pop up for all the Chargers game, the fan, the Super Fan? Yeah, they need to get her back. They need to bring her back.
Starting point is 02:33:16 They need to bring Philip Rivers back. they may bring Marty Schottenheimer back. Like, Lladenian Thomas, dude. It's bad. Any of those people up. Give us your Graziano sack. My Graziano sack of where goes to Dallas Turner. This is the ultimate walk-off.
Starting point is 02:33:34 And like there's something about playing in the rain that's primal. Playing in weather is primal, dude. For a D-Lyman, you're wet, you're fucking dirty. There's grass in your nostrils. There's great. And on grass, too. It's just that's what football was in. tended to feel like.
Starting point is 02:33:49 And when the game's on the line and you've been like, these were my favorite games where you had a lot of opportunities and you're constantly chasing the quarterback, right? Like you've got a bunch of pressures. You're getting close. You're getting close. Maybe you get home. Maybe you don't. The last drive of the game, bro, that's what you live for.
Starting point is 02:34:08 You're like, it could be me this play. And they're on a razor's edge. This is a huge game for them to just steal another game without Kyler on the road. against Caleb Williams and the Bears, who people think are gonna win the division and this whole thing, you find a way to steal this game. And it's because big brain Ben Johnson, I think his brain was swollen
Starting point is 02:34:30 and it cut off the air supply or the blood supply. I don't know how his brain works, but it cut off the blood supply to his play call sheet, and he blocked Dallas Turner with a tight end, with the game on the line. And I don't care how you get there just to be able to finish the game, like that. There's no drug on the planet as far as I'm aware of. That feels like closing out a
Starting point is 02:34:55 game with a sack, a walkoff or a fourth quarter last three-minute sack, man. What tight in is blocking any premier D-Lyman like D-N in the league? I would say, I would say there's a guy in Buffalo who could, it's really not about blocking. It's more like when do you throw that look at them And is the quarterback aware that he might be in peril? And like, is it play action? Where's the tight end lined up? There's no tight end on the bears that I feel comfortable about blocking an edge player.
Starting point is 02:35:31 It's almost disrespectful with the game in the line. And, you know, I just, to me, it was a bad day at the office for Ben. He kind of got his lunch money taken. I know it's a weather game. But if it's the greatest car on earth, If it's like the most high performing sports car on earth, you can't say, well, it doesn't go fast in the rain, you know?
Starting point is 02:35:55 And with the game in the line, that's just, that's a crazy decision to make. But Dallas Turner, Graziano, Sack Award. Now we've got worse flight. Worst fight. I'm giving it to the Ravens. After a loss, got to get on a flight to fly to Brazil. and I don't know if in the past we've seen the way Lamar Jackson
Starting point is 02:36:20 acts on flights after a loss doesn't look like it's any fun for anyone around so just the thought of having to get on a flight after that loss and just everything that's surrounding the loss that they had and having a lead and giving up the league
Starting point is 02:36:38 that's probably going to be one of those flights where it's probably not going to be a lot of fun probably going to be bad and nothing feels good in the NFL until you get a win. My worst flight was pretty easy. I was laying in bed at one in the morning, and as I do, I was looking at the weather app. Now, if you look at the bottom of the screen,
Starting point is 02:36:55 you can see that's over a 12-hour time span. I think the game last night ended at 11.30 p.m. And I've commented on this before, but like Kansas City totally botched the layout with the airport super far from fucking Arrowhead. It's like 30, 40 minutes. So if the game ends at 1130, reasonably, you're probably pulling out at 1245, right? From the stadium?
Starting point is 02:37:22 Oh, getting to the, yeah, you probably leave. Well, you spend an hour, hour and 15. I would say you wouldn't fly, leave, take one. No, but like leaving the stadium, 1130, you go when everybody gets showered, you get broken down and everything. Hour, yeah. You're an hour, you're waiting on the bus for 15 minutes. I say it's 1245. They probably got to, they probably got to the airport at 1.30 in the morning, East Coast time.
Starting point is 02:37:44 They probably, and if you're a player, you know, they got to load up all the equipment and shit. 12.15. 1.30 in the morning, probably take off at 2.15. I mean, that's what I mean. 2 in the morning. Yeah, yeah. So you're flying into Indy,
Starting point is 02:37:58 which is an hour and 20 flight from Kansas City Indy at 3 a.m. That's about where I have that little thing. Look at that fucking band of weather. Can you imagine? Can you imagine, you see where Indy is? I don't want to be flying. through that, especially after I lost an overtime football game and the coach's job is on the line
Starting point is 02:38:20 and, you know, like that's the temperature in the building. That flight had to be brutal, bro. And I'd love for somebody on the Colts to tell me, did you experience some turbulence? Because that yellow and that in that pink and purple is that this bad news bears. I want to stay out of that. Worst flight, Indianapolis Colts, weatherman Chris. Bellw conway. LSU Ole Miss That was a thing of beauty Those two uniforms are incredible
Starting point is 02:38:51 Of course I was mostly watching UVA lose to West Virginia But I'm always following along to see if Lane Kiffin gets embarrassed And he did He did He did Well my bevel is going to Carly Ursay Did you guys see the diamond earpiece
Starting point is 02:39:09 She was wearing on the sideline It's fire I love you Yeah, I knew you would have some commentary on Carly. I love it. Yeah, we got to get you guys in touch, you know, maybe a feature interview. I'm definitely down. So anti-bebble Conway, the ugliest scene in football, that was Jets Packers for me.
Starting point is 02:39:29 That just didn't, that combination didn't work for me. And that MetLife turf is like my head hurts after I turn that game off. Like, when that game ends and the next game comes on, like it's just, it's like head pressure releases, man. Like that is such an ugly color palette in the rain up there at that stadium. That's my anti-bevel Conway. But you see there, you've got Lane Kiffin. Would you have up there, Cowboy? Can the people see that what you're doing right now?
Starting point is 02:39:58 Yeah, yeah, yeah, getting pointed out. That's called get back, dude. That's the ultimate get-back. And that leads me to my hollow man. Did you do your anti-Bevil yet? I didn't have a good one. That's okay. We'll do Hollow Man.
Starting point is 02:40:15 Lane Kiffin. That's mine too. Talk about it. No, go ahead. You talk about it. I think it's just like just everything that's happened in the way he left like Old Miss and just feeling like you're going to go in there and beat this team and then have what the quarterback that he sat or that like he didn't think was good enough beat him.
Starting point is 02:40:37 Like you have to feel small. And then all the reporters that you shit on for saying that you just jump ship and you do all this. And then you end up doing that. And now you're back in all their faces, back in, what, enemy territory. Yeah. And just to feel that way for the game to come out, not in your favor. And boy, I got to tell you, I just college football coaches can irk the fuck out of me sometimes. They kind of act like little kings.
Starting point is 02:41:06 Like they have their little dominions. Yeah. nobody they nobody they nobody they're not accountable to anybody they can you know the transfer portal kind of even the playing field a little bit but some of these guys walk around like their fucking drug kingpins right like and lane kiffin he's flashy and the whole thing and like yeah sometimes he cracks me up but more times than not i'm like oh we get it bro like we get it and like you know you're kind of just catering to a bunch of 23 year old frat boys with all your behavior man like We get it.
Starting point is 02:41:37 Like, at some point, act like a fucking adult. And when you leave a team early like that, which always irked me in college football, like the team's going to fucking hate you, man. Absolutely. The team's going to fucking hate you. I'm sorry, but, like, it made me really happy to see LSU get beat there. And that's not to say, I want to go to LSU Bama this year. I want to go to that game, you know?
Starting point is 02:41:58 But in this situation, I was pulling for Ole Miss. For sure. So. And shout out to old. Ole Miss, supposedly like the smallest, cheapest, best Western that's usually like a hundred bucks a night was like 5K, all off hate, all off fueled off hate. Hate can do it, bro. Running the prices up.
Starting point is 02:42:22 But it was all worth it if you did spend that money. SCL Memorial, I'm going to give it to Drew Locke. I thought nobody saw that game, but like Drew Locke was impressive. Like I was actually like, okay, you know, like a lot of teams lose their starting quarter. and you worry about, especially in the tight NFC West race, like, we could fall behind. Like, I don't think the Seahawks are going to fall behind. But he got cheesy in his earphones, man. He put on.
Starting point is 02:42:46 Yeah, that's Breeds boy from back in the day. Put on me. STL Memorial, I'm giving it to Cody White, Y receiver from the Raiders, who was elevated from the practice squad a day before the game, had his first two catches, what ended up being two touchdowns for him from my man, Kurt Couser. So I just feel like being a guy that was on the practice squad and you get elevated or you find out just having that just that feeling of maybe all the weeks over the games tomorrow like I'll have another chance next week. But maybe being in the hotel or on the way to the hotel or at that that pregame Saturday meeting and then being like, hey, we're moving you up. You're in.
Starting point is 02:43:31 Yeah. Like we're calling your number. And then to actually get in the game, and Kurt Cousins having one of those games, and he finds you twice. That was big. In the end zone, that has to be fired. They're going to be a fun team.
Starting point is 02:43:44 Yeah. They're going to be a fun team. I don't know where they're going, but they're going to be fun. I know one thing. I know they're not the old Raiders easy win on the schedule. You know when people say they're not your dad's Raider or whatever, I'm like, no, they're definitely not.
Starting point is 02:43:59 Literally not my dad's Raiders, but they're not like the Raiders from when I was in high school, that's for sure. And they're not the Raiders from when Derek Carr was there, I think because I just trust the direction a little bit more. Like I just, I just, I, they seem like. And they haven't gotten pieces going. If you really think about it, they have, they don't have Bowers right now.
Starting point is 02:44:17 Gentie hasn't really gotten going like they want him to. No. So it's just a lot of pieces that can make the Raiders scary if it all does click up at the right time for that. So I'm on best seat, yeah? Mm-hmm. My best seat is the Vanderbilt coaches, man. the Vanderbilt coach is I've never seen a football game lost that way in my life NC State and by the way the line was was I think three
Starting point is 02:44:42 so the the game ended and they put a second back on the clock to kick the extra point it should have been a push like so if you if you were on NC State here's what happened NC State's up three with they're up 31 28 with like 15 seconds ago or seven seconds ago or something like it's It's not much and they're backed up and they're going to take a safety and try to run the clock down to nothing, right? The prudent thing to do would have been to do a whirly burden and throw the ball as high as you fucking can out of bounds. But for some reason, the kid took it to the limit, man. Like he was back there playing like keep away and he gets pop, loses the ball.
Starting point is 02:45:28 Vandy falls on it. like Vandy has no business winning this game, but NC State did the unthinkable. I've never seen anything like this in my life in the shot of the Vanderbilt coach's box, for those of you who haven't seen it, maybe we'll just show you right now, was like,
Starting point is 02:45:44 I just have never been in a situation like that where I was so sure a football game was going to end a certain way, and it goes a different way. Like this is, you want to talk about win probability? Look at the guy in the middle. He's like, no way.
Starting point is 02:45:56 The guy in the middle is like the way I would react. Yeah. I want to know what. what's going on with the guy on the right. I'm not, I'm not levying any accusations, but I kind of feel like maybe. He's just locked.
Starting point is 02:46:09 He was on the pack. Because like, holy shit, watch him, high five. It's like he forgot something and remembered it, dude. Do you see the way his, and his face just stayed that way for a couple seconds? So I don't know who that guy is
Starting point is 02:46:24 or what the explanation was, but like either he just, his dopamine, systems all out of whack and that didn't do it for him he's he's locked in he knows that there's still time he's like hey we got we got to we got to prepare for a wacky play I guess so I guess so um okay so best seat vandy coaches game bowl I don't have a best seat oh you don't I got a worst seat but I don't know if you guys have it it's this uh it's this browns fan actually it's kind of a dope seat he refused to leave the game this is a Mary
Starting point is 02:46:58 K K Kavit tweet if you want to find it. But you know, it's a guy in a Shador, Sanders jersey. So he came to the game. He didn't even get to watch Shador. He's watching Deshaun. He's traveled all the way from Cleveland, presumably. And he's sitting in the front road down there during this monsoon. And he refuses to leave the stadium, which has been the last thing that I would have done.
Starting point is 02:47:19 Just because I'm so afraid of lightning, I'm actually a survivor. I've actually been hit by lightning. I like to remind my friends of that. But there's no way I would have been sitting down there. This guy's, it's an active monsoon. And this dude is just camped there. So I actually can't tell if it's best seat or worst seat. Because if it's just raining, like, it was pretty hot that day.
Starting point is 02:47:39 Like, maybe it's good to cool off. You're kind of getting a shower. I think in the moment it's probably worst seat. You know, he's like the bucks are probably going to lose. Or the bucks are probably going to win. I'm getting poured on. This sucks. And then after the fact, when this video goes viral.
Starting point is 02:47:53 He's soaking wet. Yeah. And he smells terrible. Yeah. I'm not really. sure. He's got a little Ziplog. But he smells like mildew, bro.
Starting point is 02:48:01 And by the time that delays over and fucking, so anyways, yeah. Speaking of Mary Kay Cabot, I want to shout her out because she had a tweet that edited out, but it said B star, star, star, but then she tweeted fuck later. No way. Like with the, what was she saying fuck about? The Todd Munkin quote. Oh, yeah, yeah. So she included, but I was like, hey, that's chill.
Starting point is 02:48:24 Munkin was upset, bro. So Gameball, I'm going to give it to. Shuck. Who you got? Kenneth Walker. Yeah, dude, he was unbelievable. And he's just so important. And here's the thing about him. Like, they need to bubble wrap him. Like, you can't inherently because he's a football player.
Starting point is 02:48:41 But like, in any other sport, like the most important player on the team is not a crash test dummy. Mahomes is the most important player on the team, I guess. Yeah. But Kenneth Walker is like the, the jenga piece. Yeah, yeah. Like he's the, he's the, he's the, he's the, he's the, he's the perfect. peace to this office. You know what I fell in love with him?
Starting point is 02:49:00 He's going to touch the ball 30 plus times a game. I know. You know when I fell in love with him? Yeah. When they showed that video in camp, when they would have like an interteam fight and he scooped somebody. He scooped one of his teammates. Oh, really?
Starting point is 02:49:10 Really? Yes. I like, yes. And I was like, oh, I like that. I like that. I like that from my starting running back for sure. So we're wrapping this up before we talk Monday night for a second. But I saw Eric Miller in the chat was asking.
Starting point is 02:49:23 So do you just not talk about the Thursday night game for the umpteat time? Generally not on the. this show because like it's uh it's like days ago but if you want me to give you a synopsis the bills were were free money i mean like the fucking lions played a billion snaps at home but against the saints in overtime they've got to they got to go open the stadium in buffalo open the stadium in buffalo four days later against the physical bills offense and their defensive coordinator legitimately nobody told him you don't have to be that aggressive against shosh and you don't have to play that much man you could just
Starting point is 02:50:08 you could mix it up a little bit i honestly don't know what they're thinking defensively i know it's kind of been their mo i think i'm not saying it's fixable but what i am saying is you could be less bad defensively by being less aggressive at times at some point i think brian branch is coming back You know, I speculated that at some point they'll have Kirby Joseph back. I kind of forgot his knee is like, is like degenerative. Like it's kind of probably over for him. But Brian Branch is a big part of this defense. You hope eventually you get him back.
Starting point is 02:50:41 I can't speak to what the defensive ceiling is. But another take that draws me absolutely fucking bananas, go if whoever you follow, if they tweeted about Ben Johnson Thursday night, unfollow him or mute them. they don't know what they're talking about. Ben Johnson is not the reason the Lions didn't look good Thursday night. The reason the Lions didn't look good Thursday night is because they had a terrible game plan.
Starting point is 02:51:07 They were outmatched. They were exhausted. And the defensive game plan got them killed. Petzing has not even had a chance yet. They're down three of their five offensive linemen. They're looking at multiple fronts. Players on Buffalo that have been actually like very pleasant surprises. I've talked a lot about Dion Walker and how he would factor in.
Starting point is 02:51:27 of this defense he's been a big part of it you see their edge rushers are making plays rousseau's like on a tear but more than anything you're down three fucking offensive linemen and jare goff has never been a quarterback that can play behind a shitty offensive line it fucks the run game up the left guard can't block the backside of anything um and you know like what do you expect they honestly i'm just telling you i come away from that game shout out to ryan rsillo more impressed with the lions. Because they don't quit, dude. They do not quit.
Starting point is 02:52:02 Like, they played that game to the bitter end. They had chances at the end of that game to, it was one of those games that, like, everybody, Al Michaels was fantasizing about swiping his key card and lining up his loafers and falling asleep to the Buffalo local news. Like, he was ready to go night night. And they were doing a podcast over this game. And then all of a sudden you look up in the fourth quarter and it's like one thing could happen as a one score game is very close
Starting point is 02:52:33 The Lions are a tough football team They they have a good head coach I promise you Lions fans you don't want him I'll take him on my favorite team you know what I'm saying like I'm talking talking for a lot of a lot of fan bases Dan Campbell culturally has hit it out of the park. Yes, this offensive coordinator hire is huge I don't think you can give petting any kind of grade through two weeks and if you're saying you can you're not paying attention because they don't have the guys up front and when those guys get healthy then you tell me if they suck offensive leave don't tell me
Starting point is 02:53:08 coming out of a game where Josh Allen looks like the best fucking football player on the planet and they're opening the stadium and you play man coverage and you get torched that ben Johnson is the missing piece yes he helps a lot and it'd probably be better off if he were there as an offensive coordinator but this is the way things go in this league the the offensive wizzes get hired away and you have to replace them last year was a whiff there's reason to believe in my opinion that petzing will at least stabilize the situation offensively so anybody who's just hopping off the lions train do it at your own own peril you know i think they're they're at the very least a solid football team whose floor is eight or nine wins and their ceiling is still 12 or 13 wins
Starting point is 02:53:54 Like, I, maybe not 13. But I think if the defense can just be not a burning building, you'll see. They're still the lions. So that, that's my, that's my dissertation on Thursday night. You shouldn't have got me started. That just drove me crazy. Yeah, I'm a Bill's fan. And yeah, like I had every Josh Allen rushing prop and they all hit in the fucking first drive.
Starting point is 02:54:17 And it was a banner day for your boy. But that's not going to stop me from looking at the game honestly. and seeing these tweets and these takes. And it's just hack shit, bro. So what does that mean? So does Ben Johnson suck because they scored three points this week against the Vikings?
Starting point is 02:54:34 No, dude. Put your nuance glasses on and analyze the game. The lions are not dead yet. Just give them some time. That's my take. As for Monday night football, I do think this is the perfect spot for the Rams.
Starting point is 02:54:51 I don't know where the line is right now. now because what I basically did is I parlayed Kansas City and the Rams money line. But I think it opened it like a touchdown. Six and a half. Six and a half now. The Giants impress me week one. I do think they're a solid football team. It is week one.
Starting point is 02:55:15 And conversely, the other way with the, what I want to see from the Rams is like people act like when Miles Garrett gets hurt, like they're just terrible now. I mean, last year, they were on the doorstep of going to the Super Bowl and beating that Seattle team. They were very close, and that Seattle team was very good. The last two meetings, a couple little things here or there, including special teams, swung the matchup the other way. So you look at their defense now, they basically lost Jared Verse.
Starting point is 02:55:43 Like imagine last year's team without Jared Verse plus Aaron Donald and plus Trent McDuffie plus Watson. It's going to be an adjustment that they all get on the same page defensively. and offensively, unless Matt Stafford plays like that routinely, I think they're going to be fine. So, like, you know, again, like, I'm not one of these people. I didn't pick the Super Bowl. I didn't pick the Rams to win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 02:56:05 Okay, like, I almost was like, it just doesn't happen that way. That's why I pick somebody else. By the way, Super Bowl picks are kind of like throwing darts, okay? But the point is I'm not one of those people that feels like I need to defend the Rams. Okay, like I didn't jump out of the gym for them as the best team of all time. I told you guys in the preseason, they're not perfect defensively, and some of the Rams fans are like,
Starting point is 02:56:27 what do you mean we don't have, that we have holes? Like, dude, look at this, they're not the best defense of all time, but what they're not is a bad football team. And so tonight, I want to see them just get back on the right track. The Giants controlled the clock
Starting point is 02:56:41 and early downs that entire game. That's going to be the key to this thing. You got to force Jackson Darton to some third and longs, and you can't just be camped out there on defense. I don't expect them to be in that situation this week. Hey, the horrible, the horrible thing, man. The brother lost yesterday.
Starting point is 02:56:59 Giants got a win. Giants got a win. Yeah. Explain that thing to people one more time before we go home? Harborough brothers as coaches, as head coaches, when one of them loses, the other brother always finds a way to get a win on that week. I feel like as of late, someone can go and check. But I feel like the only time they technically like love.
Starting point is 02:57:22 lost is when like one of them had a buy and the other one lost. Yeah, it's held up pretty well. Like at first when you did it, I was like, man, like, what were you smoking last night? But like now I'm kind of like, hey, there's something to it. And it's kind of scaring me because you told me that the one lost yesterday. But what do you guys think tonight? What do you score predictions, guys? Can I hit you with a question about AD?
Starting point is 02:57:46 Yeah. He returns to action tonight. If you're Chris Schuola, how would you be thinking about total snap count? And then within that, is there any kind of consideration? of like base downs versus money downs probably but also he's going to play base downs like it's third down you know like Aaron Donald's going to be like you can't touch me dude I'm I'm going to try to get on an edge even in the run game stunt I'd be using him sparingly on early downs I would I mean I think the giants are physical I think you need everybody at the party but you have
Starting point is 02:58:16 puna Ford and guys like this for that reason and I want a fresh Aaron Donald on maybe some of the, you know, second and longers and the third downs, man. Like, I kind of look at a target around like 18 to 25 snaps. He's in the goal line package? Huh? You putting them in the goal line package? No, you know? No, but I know you're not saying you should or shouldn't.
Starting point is 02:58:36 That's also interesting. Like, to me, like, I'm not putting him in harm's way, not because he can't handle it or because he's not. But it's just like he has not seen full speed football in a couple years. But the one thing he can do rolling out of bed is beat, is beat somebody on the edge. Yep. you know yeah i feel like it's it's a tricky thing for shula too because they got gashed in the run
Starting point is 02:58:55 game against san fran and you know what the giants want to do tonight so yeah i mean if he looks like a d how do you not put him out there but can the giants do what san francisco does schematically right i don't think they can i don't think they have the personnel for it i just not what they do so that to me is like the big question like how's schula gonna because shula's the one guy he was close to being a head coach. Like he got interviews and like, but he stayed and we looked at it as a positive. And he looks,
Starting point is 02:59:26 it looks so bad week one. But he also played the best offensive coach in the fucking league, dude. Shanney's a dog and has owned that matchup for stretches. I am very interested to look at this game. But I do want to say, I think the Rams get the win. I think the Rams get the win. Is Puka plan?
Starting point is 02:59:48 I think he is out. Yeah. He didn't practice Friday or something. I got the, I got the, give me, go ahead. Well, I was just going to say, before you give a total, the last eight games, the Rams average allowing 28.1 points per game. Yeah. Dan Duggan.
Starting point is 03:00:05 No, I do see, I don't know what the total is. I'm looking at it right now. Total is 47 and a half. Yeah, I mean, to me, that seems like a game that goes over. And just on account of that, let me say. Cam Kitchens is also not playing. Yeah, let me, you know. supposedly the sharps are on
Starting point is 03:00:23 let me look at the bet percentage here for people at home who might be inclined Giants are getting more of the bets and more of the money and on the total we have the Rams
Starting point is 03:00:39 the under getting less of the money and less of the bets so we've got the giants and the stuff with like what's the handle on a game like and I don't place as much stake in that because it's really hard to find out like books kind of keep that to themselves i think but like the bet percentage it's definitely the public side to to bet the giants in the over but it's only slightly on the on the over let me let me get
Starting point is 03:01:01 the let me go rams 20 oh let me go rams 26 giants 21 so you know possibly a cover but i would not be surprised at all to see the rams just make a fucking statement if there's one team that's they could blow the other team out. I feel like it's the Rams blowing the Giants out. I don't see the Giants blowing the Rams out. But I see the Rams winning this game, 26, 21. You know, so bet the Rams at your own risk, because that's a lot of points.
Starting point is 03:01:39 But I'm sitting in the catbird seat. I already parlayed them with yesterday's news. You got them winning straight out right? I got them winning outright, yeah. Money line. A couple money line parlayers. I like to leave a little something for my Monday night. But it's, you know, it's fun when Kansas City pulls it out and your world doesn't
Starting point is 03:01:55 crumble at 11.30 at night, you're like, oh, tomorrow night the Rams just have to win? They should be giving you a cash out right now. This cash out, bro. I don't cash out. Are locals question of the week presented by zone? Oh, yeah, yeah, locals question of the week. Presented by zone. Warning, this product contains nicotine. Nicotine is an addictive chemical underage sale prohibited. If you ever played sports, which I know many of you have, in the chat. You know the competition can get pretty heated. Starting point is 03:02:48 for exclusive rewards and offers. Hit me. This was in the chat from Blast Hard Cheese Double Zero. I love that. You think the Noel Williams punch out the Sneed down by contact debacle and the Chiefs is a textbook too much technology moment? No. No.
Starting point is 03:03:08 I think they had the right amount of technology. I just think the fucking refs were smoking crack, dude. I have no idea what they were looking at. We were sitting there and a lot of times, I'll play devil's advocate in my head like ad nauseum and sometimes I'll be like well I don't know like I can't how could I know
Starting point is 03:03:28 but when you looked at the square on view of the ball in his hands he didn't have control until he brought it into both his hands and his chest having the ball in one of your hands which they show from the side angle a bunch of times I'm sitting there saying
Starting point is 03:03:45 and it kind of felt like Chris Collinsworth and Al Michaels were on this as well and then Terry McCollinger comes in and it was like oh yeah it was like oh that's what we're going with so like we're not going to question it if i were the the color commentator i would have been throwing a fucking fit of course i probably got like fired the next one questioning officials but i thought it was a bad call especially considering you have to see overwhelming evidence to overturn like clear evidence and honestly from a bald-on-ligh standpoint it'd be one thing if it was a freak play but like the chiefs made
Starting point is 03:04:20 their luck on that play. Like that was an incredible play by Noel Williams, very heads up, and they didn't get rewarded for it. But, you know, they got beat deep. And I guess the ball don't lie portion of this thing is Shane Stey can run the football in first and second down and ending up in third and long and then fourth and long. Right. So you saw Patrick Mahomes after the game asked about the call and he was like, I was kind of glad. Isn't that funny? I don't want to see Twitter's reaction. Well, yeah. And again, like the chief get some calls, so do all the good teams, so do all the teams. But eventually you watch long enough, you're going to see that maybe you're like,
Starting point is 03:04:59 what the fuck was that? There were two calls last night that were brutal, in my opinion. The one on the sideline was like, I felt gaslit and I felt even more gaslit with Terry McCauley just lying to us. It's 1115 at night on a Sunday, dude. Remember how mad I used to get last year? I told you. Like that's like the biggest like my pet peeve of watching games is just that little factor of the
Starting point is 03:05:25 independent ref and what's going on in the game when it's like it's not matching up and they don't either clear it up or it just leaves you as a fan like just being like wait like what what just happened like honestly like what and like there are times where hey like who I bet on affects what oh yeah for sure like for sure dude I'm I'm a human human being but Last night, I was just, I was like, man, I don't know how you see that. And then the worst thing about it is, however, it played out last night, as soon as you get to play similar like that, it'll play it a different way and you'll be like, and you'll be like, wait, like how, like absolutely how.
Starting point is 03:06:05 And they can say, well, it's different crews, different guys, see things, different ways. And then it makes you want, it makes me want. What is control? I think that's the question. It was like the what's a catch, what's control? Because OBJ is one-handed thing. How do you, when, when is that in control? I don't know.
Starting point is 03:06:22 Like, the one-hand thing. I don't know. And how you determine that, but. I'm glad they didn't take that one away. Yeah. All right, everybody. That's, I think, that's going to do it for the show. I cannot wait to go home and stop watching football.
Starting point is 03:06:37 For a few hours? Yeah, well, yeah. But it's, it's kind of like Halloween candy, bro. Like, eventually when you're a kid, like, you know, you could eat like a pound of it, but eventually you're like, man, I don't feel right. Like, that's how I feel at the end of Sunday night. And I'm like, oh, I'll go to sleep for a little bit,
Starting point is 03:06:54 wake up, watch more. At the end of this show, I'm cooked. So I appreciate everybody's patience. I appreciate all the fan bases tuning in. I don't hate your team. And I also really do want to cover everybody. I just a moment of, like, honesty here.
Starting point is 03:07:08 It is a huge lift. I know you watch other shows on Monday. I'm not saying they don't watch the games, but like we try to watch everything we talk about. And like if I'm going to talk, if I'm going to talk about a game that I haven't seen closely, I'm going to put it in the triangle. So, you know, there's going to be times where maybe your team doesn't get hit or one side of the ball doesn't get hit as closely. I'll try to clean up my mess on Wednesday, and I appreciate you guys being patient with me. Love you guys.
Starting point is 03:07:31 And we will see you Wednesday for the Boe Show.
