I'm an aggressive guy who I can get to you in about two, three steps.
You know, other guys can chop and get there.
I mean, by the time you get to your spot, I'm already up on you.
So you might have to deal with my power.
You might have to deal with my length.
You might have to deal with a swipe.
So I just feel like my fastball is just getting on them so quick
and making them have to make a decision.
You know, either you're going to set to be outside and I'm going to go inside
or you're going to set to where you don't know and I'm going to run right through you.
Welcome to the Green Light podcast.
Thank you for jumping in today.
We have a great episode.
Chris and Bo flying through some NFL topics.
We talk to a Jordan Love, what it means for Dak and the Cowboys.
Also play a little training camp news game.
News or not news?
We throw out a training camp story and Chris and Bo determine if it is newsworthy or if it is not.
And all of that is before a awesome interview with Jonathan Grenard, the new Minnesota Viking.
He talks about Vikings training camp playing for head coach Kevin O'Connell,
how he signed with the Vikings in free agency after playing with the Texans last year,
coming over with his buddy Blake Cashman,
who you all heard on the show two weeks ago.
He tells a great Levy Smith story
after Levy had locked up the number two pick
in the 2023 draft,
which secured the Texan C.J. Stroud.
It's a great interview.
You all enjoy.
We'll catch you on Friday with plenty more fun.
I think the Olympics have been great.
Only thing I've been missing is Bob Costas is pink eye.
You remember he had pink eye.
That's the only thing missing from this Olympic.
I think we got some cool pictures out of it.
We got LeBron, like, crossing the Delaware memes.
Like, he was on that boat with all those people.
That picture looked fake, man.
This has been one of the coolest Olympics to me in recent memory.
And I don't know it only comes around every four years, but the ratings are really good.
So this has become, like, the new Kaepernick thing where everybody's like, I'm turning off the NFL.
And the NFL is just printing money four years, like, you know, 10 years later, whatever it is.
And the Olympics have been getting record ratings, like basketball crowds are out of this world.
I mean, it's been awesome.
But if you're not watching, I totally understand.
You know, my son, I tweeted this earlier, my eight-year-old son,
I asked him this morning who he wants to win the Olympics,
and he said, Biazelbub.
Is that France?
No, I don't understand.
They had the queen of England beheaded.
Evidently, they did that at some point.
Like, I think that was a shot.
That was years in the making.
Years.
It's a old rivalry.
Yeah.
Is there a special.
On something like that, you could just, you know what I mean?
Like imagine, imagine, imagine, imagine Russia gets the next one.
They won't.
But imagine they do.
And they're like, they've got a JFK, like, mod.
Yeah.
But Chase Buttinger, you've seen him play volleyball now, though?
Beast.
Dog.
Beast, absolute beast.
It's super cool.
Imagine being in the NBA and then being like, I think I want to be an Olympic athlete.
another sport. He was the McDonald's All-American game MVP, co-MVP with Kevin Durant, and now they're
both at the Olympics, pretty crazy. I think when Devin Funches makes the team USA, we need to make a
really big deal about it. Remember that whole discussion. Oh, there's like a 58-year-old table tennis
player, supposedly. Yeah, dude. She was supposed to be on the Chinese team when she was 18, moved to
Chile, was coaching table tennis for like 15 years, retired for 20 years, picked it up during
COVID and just made the team as a 58 year old.
There's a Bulgarian chick that looks like Anya Joy Taylor that plays table tennis.
You always mix up her name.
Whatever her taste.
Chris, did you see the judo champion who had been undefeated for five years and lost her
first match in the Olympics and had an unbelievable meltdown after that?
No, she didn't.
I mean, it's one of those things where it's like, you know, sometimes you got to lose to know how to
win you know what I'm saying yeah but when it happens every half a decade I can understand why people
cry tough and then the other one that was fun to watch was the number one rated fencer who lost to
the guy that was like bunny hopping yeah and then he and then the dude had an absolute meltdown
and refused to leave the stage or the I don't know what the the fencing like arena is called
you know what I mean but he was screaming at the refs and stuff like that it's really fun to get
into these random sports and follow these
storylines because it's not exposed to it.
I for one, I'm shocked that
somebody who grew up fencing
would act petulant.
Right.
Hey, before we get to football,
Bo, did you see Alana Maher,
our rugby stud?
Fucking dog, bro.
That is a proper representation of America
right there. She's out there looking like prime
Marchand Lynch beast mode. Trucking
girls, dude. And then they're like zooming on her
face. And she just looks
furious, dude.
I want to know why she's not out in a fall camp somewhere,
because after this, like, if she gets a fucking contract offer from, like, you know,
I'm trying to think of a team who runs a lot of, like, power inside zone duo,
she needs to be on, like, she needs to be in the NFL, man.
She's a fucking beast.
Harrison Buckler should be making her dinner.
Exactly, dude.
You got to watch those clips, dude.
They're phenomenal.
And she's running, like, 70 yards at a clip trucking.
She gets fast as hell.
I mean, she's got some NFL measurables, man.
She needs to be on a squad.
Of course she's like a big Jason Kelsey fan.
I just found that out.
I didn't, like, I'm catching up.
I had seen some clips of this guy.
I didn't know her name.
And now when I Google search her, like Kelsey's there.
Kelsey's there arm wrestling, some Olympian.
By the way.
Dude, that she gave rugby.
That's her teammate, her rugby teammate.
And she gave Kelce a run for his money, man.
Kels was like, I mean, here's the thing about Kalsh that I've learned over, you know,
I did that.
a beer bowl with him a couple weeks ago and I've always done little competitive things with him.
This motherfucker cheats his ass off and you watch his left arm during the thing.
He is grabbing like the like the table like Kelso had to pull out all the stops to beat this
he had a good excuse for it.
He went to the like arm wrestling tournament or whatever and got the got the rules.
The real rules exactly to defend himself.
Yeah, he had that ready to go.
I just want to say and I know Kelsey's just.
just the man and could possibly run for president.
Not that's a high bar, but I, uh, like, Kelsey, go down to Tuscaloosa and fucking arm wrestle
a six foot six guy at Galettes.
That's what I had to do this fall.
Some guy won't do that bar, some fucking Alabama guy.
You know, it's how they all look down there.
And he's like, you're pretty big.
You want to arm wrestle?
And you just don't have a choice.
My shoulder's still pushed for that.
It was a three and a half minute showdown.
that's one of two arm wrestling matches
I've been in the last calendar year.
The other one was at a strip club called Masters
in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
That one lasted two and a half minutes.
But I got to say, pretty impressive
when the whole world's watching you.
There's nothing more nerve-wracking
than somebody challenging you to something
and you immediately have to take the challenge.
I don't know how much warning Kelsey had,
but I don't care what you have to do.
You're not going to lose.
You can't lose on that stage.
I'm proud of Kelsey.
I don't care for you.
if he had to cheat arm wrestling's a mother-bucker.
So my hat goes off to him.
No, I'm siding with the woman that was arm wrestling.
She's, that's, they're not in the same weight class.
Come on.
Honestly, didn't know, I'm not saying this in any way.
I saw the clip very briefly.
And I was like, good for you, Kelsey, beat an Olympian, didn't know it was a girl.
So that changes things a little bit.
Yeah.
Does she have short hair?
She had a big, high pony.
Yeah.
okay i didn't see the high pony i like i consume it like most of the things on my timeline five
seconds at a time uh so i thought he had beaten a guy but in this case never mind
okay yeah arm wrestle this gal we're talking about and then then we'll be impressed
alana maher dude she would walk his ass she's a fucking beast okay let's get into football
we got a big interview today i got some censadine in my hand because i haven't
fucking toothache.
You guys have had a toothache before, but it is not cool.
But I kind of get it as, it's a great opportunity to use an excuse for five minutes
at a time to yourself.
Because like, your wife just believes you.
Your kids believe you.
God, this hurts so much.
Okay, let's start football.
It feels like whenever we drop a pod, something happens right afterwards.
It's just like that's, that's Newton's law.
of podcasting.
But we dropped the pod last week.
Matt's shaking his head.
You didn't even teach fucking science or geometry or whatever.
You taught history.
So stay out of it.
What is?
Is it Newton's law?
No.
I think you're talking about Moore's law.
Like everything that can go wrong will go wrong.
Oh, no.
I was just taking a law.
Murphy's law.
Newton's law.
Murphy's law.
Yeah.
Oh, you didn't even know.
Murphy's law.
Yeah, every, every pod, if you say something that's going to happen,
it'll have the opposite effect and the opposite will happen.
Yeah, so basically, I've been campaigning for the dolphins not to pay to it for
the better part of three years.
No, we're going to talk about Jordan Love and Tua.
They both got deals.
They both got big deals.
And I'll start with Jordan Love.
I'm unapologetically a big fan of the guy.
Hey, listen, this is an inexact science analyzing.
quarterbacks, handicapping teams, projecting outcomes. So yeah, there's no right answer here,
but my answer would be, yeah, pay Jordan Love. He looks like that guy. Like, he's going to be
that guy for you for a very long time. And if you look at Green Bay's history, I mean,
we've been on enough organizations to know that like quarterbacks don't grow on trees and
teams are at finding them. And they're even worse at sticking the landing on knowing when to get out on a guy
and move on.
And that's why, like, although the Philly thing was jarring and maybe tough on an old teammate and Carson,
even if I was critical of it or questioned it, I mean, that's why Howie Roseman gets paid the big bucks.
You know, some of these organizations are very progressive in that they take stabs at this position on the regular.
And one thing I've learned is you should.
And if you can keep one in the garage for a while, great.
And that's what the Packers have been able to do.
And I don't think it's been always intentional.
Yeah.
you know, when...
But they have a track record of doing that with success.
I mean, think about the beginning of Aaron Rogers career, you know, and that's kind of
what happened in a similar sense with Jordan Love.
This is, I think people tend to over or overthink football sometimes, Chris.
You know this.
The bottom line is if you fucking play well, you get paid.
It doesn't matter if it's for one year or for, you know, three or four years in a row.
And that's really, I mean, that's even more true for a position.
with such importance as a quarterback. You play well for one year as a quarterback.
You're going to get fucking paid. So it's kind of as simple as that for me. You know what I mean?
You play well for 10 weeks, eight weeks, quarterback.
You play well for one game sometimes you get paid, you know?
Yeah. And really, I thought the sample size was big enough with Jordan Love. I wouldn't
necessarily say that for other quarterbacks, but I think the thing that's a little bit different
here is Green Bay's seeing him. You know, everything we've seen of Jordan Love,
scratching the surface on what they've seen. You know, you got to think of all the quarterbacks
in the NFL getting paid, he's the least known commodity. You know, like he, we have seen him
out on the field prior to last year, which half of it to me, I would describe it as like training
wheels. They were afraid to take chances. They were trying not to fuck up his development. At times,
I would tear my hair out what's left of it. And because I was betting the Packers is because I was
rooting for him but when the second half of that season came along and the offense fit what he
what he's good at and the young receivers started to figure it out that offense started clicking
i can remember and i don't know if you remember this boat but 2021 the only time we saw jordan
loved the only time jordan love saw the light of day in the regular season from what i remember
was against the chiefs now i went back and looked at his stats now that is again a small sample size but
2021. He plays the Chiefs 19 to 34, 55% completion rate, 190 yards, one touchdown, one
interception, 69.5 rating. I remember watching that game and thinking like, this is how I play
Madden when I'm afraid to go down four touchdowns. Like they couldn't take chances. You know,
even the easy stuff look hard for him. He looked like a rookie. And he looked like a rookie that in a lot of
people's eyes, you couldn't see enough to say this would be the guy at some point,
whether it was next year or two years down the line. Fast forward three years. And I know I've
talked about this game before, but last year I was so impressed by his performance hosting
the Kansas City Chiefs in prime time. Same team that made him look like a fucking rookie, like a guy
at a driver's head class. He looked like Mario Andretti out there. He looked like he knew the rules of the
road. He knew how to drive the car fast, and he knew how to drive it right at the right speed
limit when that's what was demanded of him. Twenty-five or thirty-six, seventy-per-six,
70-percent completion rating, 267, three touchdowns, zero interceptions, 118 rating. That's a very
good defense last year that he did that too. You know, you watch that game, Thanksgiving. They
really jumped Detroit, who ended up being one of the best teams in the league. I think they're
going to be fantastic this year. We should be talking about Green Bay the same way. You know,
Green Bay has had opportunities to play the best, and they've stood toe to toe to with them over the
last year. And a lot of that happened in the second half of last season. A lot of it was because
of the maturation of not only Jordan Love, but the young receivers around him. They have always
done the polarizing thing, Bo. You talked about it with Aaron Rogers and Brett Farb. That was polarizing
when they drafted Aaron Rogers.
It was polarizing when Brett Farr moved on, right?
There was that whole like, I don't know if they want me, do they want me?
Do they not want me?
2008 comes, 2007 comes, whatever the year was.
It took one year of seeing Aaron Rogers to realize that he deserved a deal for, you know,
six years, $70 million.
So whatever it was back that.
Fast forward.
And the same thing happens to Jordan Love where you get a year of Jordan Love and now he's
got $250 million, $55 million a year or something like that. The highest paid quarterback in history,
I know a lot of that's timing. But what it comes down to is doing the polarizing thing,
drafting Rogers, drafting Love, trading Rogers. Adams, like, that's another one. You could say,
hey, revisionist history. What if you kept Devante Adams around? That would really help Jordan Love even more.
I don't know. I was talking earlier, Beau, and I don't know how you feel about this.
I think nobody's going to argue with you say if you say, hey, I'll take four good wide receivers over one elite wide receiver and a couple guys and not knowing.
Like that's a matter of preference.
I personally like the full stable.
But what I will say is this, it's really nice for a young guy to walk into a room who's got loads of pressure on him, right?
And go through the process with four other guys that are dealing with the same thing.
There is something nice about having veterans.
it's nice having a quarterback who's backing you up who's older or a guy who's backing you up who's older
or other guys in the locker room that you can go to and confide in.
But it's also really hard being a rookie and a high pick or a guy who's been waiting four years
and they're handing the reins too and walking into a room where you got to Monta Adams
and you have to get him the ball and maybe he's frustrated if that process a little bit slow.
What the fuck is Jaden Reed saying week seven when things aren't going well?
well, I got to worry about my shit.
I'm young.
What's Romeo Dobbs saying?
I'm trying to break out.
What's Christian Watson saying?
I'm trying to stick the landing on this career.
So the point I'm making is,
I think even letting Devonte Adams walk was a good move.
Yeah, it helped with the maturation of Jordan Love.
Because I think anytime it sounds to me like what you're trying to say, Chris,
is like if you have one guy and you need to feed him the ball,
it's hard on a young quarterback because he's going to end up forcing throws.
it's going to put a little bit more pressure on for him, you know, to get that guy the ball,
to get him and make plays, whereas if you have a stable of, you know, upper, you know, mid,
like good players, you know what I mean?
You can kind of spread the ball out.
You can let the offense run its course and you don't need to completely design an offense around one guy.
And Young, and they're developing with you, Bo.
Exactly.
We're like, they get to know you as you get to know them.
They get to understand.
Everybody's pulling in the same direction.
You know what I mean?
And I think that's a good point.
when you throw a pick jaden reed doesn't have the clout to go slam his helmet and be like throw me the
fucking ball yeah vante adams seems like the best dude in the world but he could be the
i don't know dude he did shove someone headed out the tunnel got that uh okay i know but you know you know
what you know what losing does it turns everybody into somebody different and and i just think like
if you'd have seen hey jordan love struggling through some i mean listen that that that that that
Jordan Love in the first half of the season at some of those moments and that offense,
the way it was operating, I don't know that Devonty would have been real happy.
And my point is like all those guys, they don't have the cloud to put pressure on Love,
you know, which kind of takes some of the pressure off him.
I remember being a young guy walking into a D-line room full of 30-something-year-old guys.
And I was worried about my job, but I was also worried about not letting them down and not fucking up.
Was I worthy of it?
the whole thing where if I'm in there with a bunch of rookies,
we're all going through it.
And so I think it's going to be really fun to watch these guys develop together
and go through the growing pains together.
And not to mention out of that trade,
you get Quay Walker, you get Christian Watson,
you know, removing Devante.
I don't think you, if Devante is there,
you might not draft read.
You might not draft Wix.
And I'm not saying that those two guys are going to be better than Devonte,
but things are working for them right now.
And so you got a good stable.
young receivers. Tom played well last year, the offensive line improved. So I think it gives them
tremendous organizational flexibility now being in sync this way. And one last thing on Jordan Love,
like you mentioned that he's the least known quantity, but he might be like better known by Green Bay
because he's been there for four years. So it's like they've had him in their building.
They, the delta between what we know and what they know is the biggest. You know, these other teams,
I mean, like, they force these quarterbacks into action early,
and what they see is what you see.
And, you know, there might be some, hey,
I don't know what kind of guy is sitting at home on the couch
or what he looked like in camp
or what they're saying in the building.
But, like, there were years of Jordan Love where 90% of Jordan Love's development
was done in the dark.
And so I think it's really fun to see it come to fruition.
And then also that means the ceiling to me is pretty high.
Yeah.
I'm good on that.
Like, we don't got to watch anymore.
Listen, I understand being excited because you signed a $200 million extension,
but you're like the face of this franchise.
You are the fucking quarterback.
And it is like week one of fall camp.
Yeah, you can be excited.
But like, I don't know.
Something about that really bother me, man.
Like, go get ready for fucking nine on seven.
Go get ready for Skelly.
Like, go, go get fucking warmed up.
Dude, you got a full camp practice ahead of you.
Don't be saying show me the money to the fans before.
I don't know.
That shit bothered me, man.
Okay, so I just want to say this.
I'm happy for Tua.
And people are going to say, no, you're not.
I am happy for Tua.
This guy's been through a lot.
He's fucking, he's got hitting the head a bunch.
Like he's had injuries.
He's been counted out by people like me.
I mean, like, listen, he's a starting quarterback in the NFL,
and this is the going rate for paying one.
So while I might not have done just that and he might not be my cup of T as a football player,
I've always been a fan of Tua as a person.
I'm not sure if he's ever heard this podcast.
If he probably feels the same way about me,
probably don't even know who fuck I am.
Or maybe he does.
Maybe he has a voodoo doll.
But I will say this.
That's an exciting team.
The team is fast.
It's different.
It's talented.
It's the one thing we need to happen is the quarterback to get to play like the guy
that they just paid.
And, you know, the defense, we can get to that and the whole thing.
But since we're talking about Tua,
did he earn this deal statistically fucking earned it when it's really hard to win an argument with
a toa fan because they'll just throw numbers at you and you know the old adage numbers never
lie well it depends depends on how you're using them here's some numbers i and this is what
has to be better like the dolphins have a high ceiling if this can change and it's going to start
with the quarterback okay uh dolphins versus playoff teams last year one in five 17 point
points a game, 325 yards a game, 10 and 1 versus non-playoff teams, 37 points a game and
442 yards a game. That's 20 points a game in different outcomes. I mean, that's really hard
to plan for when a team has built a certain way to say, hey, we're going to score 30 points
a game. This is the tempo with which we play. This is the expectation the defense can play with,
you know, if we get into a shootout, we know we can hang.
It does a lot to throw the rhythm of the team off when you don't know what you're going to get offensively week to week.
And if that's dependent upon the pressure, okay, well, then we need to fix the offensive line.
We need to make it easier for Tua to get the ball out because he likes timing.
We need to make the reads a little bit quicker, whatever it is.
And they're already moving at warp speed.
So I don't know how you do that.
The run game needs to get better.
I don't know how it could, right?
That backfield is dynamic, the run game with McDaniel.
Like, they brought that San Francisco thing down.
And sometimes when I watch them, I'm thinking, and then some,
because they're doing it without Christian McCaffrey.
And they're doing it without Trent Williams.
They're doing without some of these offensive line.
And yeah, Robert Hunt leaves.
So, you know, there are some concerns protecting the guy,
and that's part of, I think, why even somebody who's a Tua fan would be a little bit
apprehensive because, hey, one hit and this could look a lot different, right?
Like, you do have concerns about the guy's durability, but if he's healthy and they're
playing a team that's not going to the playoffs, they're going to score 40 points a game.
Now we've got to worry about beating the good teams.
And so what does that take?
Is that Johnny Smith in the fold?
Is that Odell Beckham, his experience, his Super Bowl experience, his ability on the field,
is it a change, a defensive coordinator?
I don't know. I look at pass rush and I have some questions. You know, I'm a big Jalen Phillips fan. I'm a fan of Chubb. But like, you're starting the season without these guys. So there's a lot of pressure on the kid from Chop Robinson from Penn State. All I'm saying is, what do you think happens if they go one in five against playoff teams again? Tell me, what do you think happens, guys?
They'll be regretting this contract. Well, it ain't going to be, they'll be regretting the contract, but it ain't going to be too. It'll be McDaniel that we'll be talking about.
their brand new decontator.
No, because McDaniel's not going to get multiple coordinator hires on defense.
When you're the offensive play call, you can change the coordinator probably once on defense
if you're not winning playoff games.
They'll fire their O-line coach and get a new O-line coach.
I think if they play the way they played last year, and I think Mike would tell you this,
you know, if they get the same results, what you paid the guy for is not going to extend
McDaniel's career in Miami.
And what's interesting to me is like, let's say he gets axed in a year.
Let's say he gets axed in two years.
Right now it's 11th most percentage of cap for a quarterback, which is not bad.
I would say he deserves that, right?
Even if you're not a fan, the production says that.
And that's also, let's just not forget.
That's how these deals are trending, $200 million.
You saw with Jordan Love.
You see it with two.
That's how the cap goes, especially for quarterbacks.
Like, this is only going to go up and up and up, you know.
there's going to be it's not the last quarterback that part of a fan base is going to say hey maybe
we shouldn't have paid him this much money this is a going rate but the point is as that number 11
11 most percentage of the cap that's going to go up where in 2025 it's going to be 40 mil in
2006 it's going to be a 68.4 million dollar cap hit let's say McDaniel survives two years
2006 you got a higher coach that's going to have a quarterback that he probably doesn't like
because if McDaniel is out at some point, the next coach knows what the problem is, right?
$68.4 million cap hit, that's going to make it hard to hire the next guy.
So this is one of those deals where it's like Greer, McDaniel.
I'm not saying these guys are going to get axed.
I think they've done a good job.
Like, this just to me is one of those things where it's like, hey, if this doesn't work out,
it's not going to be my problem.
You know, this is our best available shot at this.
thing. You could argue that in April, there were other options, but no. In a perfect world,
you know, maybe you make a run at somebody else and bring somebody in to compete, but instead,
they pay the guy. And now the guy's got some pressure on him. If you look at their schedule this year,
Bo. Hey, man. Okay. Jacksonville at home. Bills at home. So two tough ones out of the gate,
although they have a short rest after that Jacksonville game. It's a four-day rest.
type thing. And you remember what happened to the bills last time they came down there in the heat
and I lost those players and they lost that close game. It wasn't the last time they went down there,
but a couple years ago. Then they go to Seattle. They play a stingy Tennessee defense at
Pats, at Colts, both tough defenses. Cardinals can't say anything about them. And then November
starts. They go at bills, at Rams, at Green Bay.
Jets at home at Houston, San Francisco, at Cleveland, at New York Jets, with only a brief respite
of the Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots at home, which is, by the way, a division game.
So after November, it's like everything they've struggled with.
Yeah.
And so a lot of pressure is going to be on Tua, fairly or unfairly.
And will he be healthy late in the season, Chris?
You know?
I do.
I have a question.
I think he's going to be healthy.
I think he gets the ball out.
I think he takes care of himself.
I mean, like, what happened in the Cincinnati game last year was tough to watch.
Yeah.
I don't want to see that.
No one wants to see that, obviously.
I think the bigger impediment to his success is just going to be beating those teams that have fast linebackers patrol in the middle of the field that have rushers that are going to muddy up your ag gaps, not allow you to, you know, climb the pocket.
that's where they start to struggle, right?
When they play these good teams and the margins for air get smaller.
And you can't just bully the Broncos who can't set an edge.
Yep.
Or some team who's got, you know, the Cleveland Browns a couple years ago,
two years ago when they played Cleveland down in Miami.
It's just like bombs over Baghdad.
They, you know, when they play these good teams, can they get better?
If they can, then two is worth every dollar.
But he's got to beat the good teams.
fair and square another thing is the dac prescott deal i was going to say how are you feeling if you're jerry
jones right now and you see jordan love and too i get this kind of money well i think it's already
over uh for jerry i don't mean like yeah go on tell us more about what that statement means i think i
mean the dac chapter i think they've they've they've made it you know they sat down and said hey like this
we got to ride this thing out, but I think in a year we're going to be, we're going to be somewhere else.
And I think for DAC, my side argument and talking to Nolan, he felt the same way was, why wouldn't you hold out if you were Dak?
If you really wanted to be a cowboy, why wouldn't you hold out?
Well, this is, yeah, and I heard the tail end of that conversation.
And this is all I'm going to say, Chris, is like, if you're, if you're DAC and you've been in Dallas, your entire career, you're someone that really cares about your person.
Like, Dak is a good guy.
I, like, I fucking, I think highly of Dak.
I think he's a great guy.
And you're a quarterback and you want to be successful and you want your team to do well.
You don't hold out during camp.
That's my personal philosophy.
If you want your team to be good, like you can really fucking, you know, take the organization,
take Jerry Jones by the nuts and hold out and really kind of force them to play their hand.
But I think you create a better team and you do you do right by your teammates by not holding out.
That's my personal opinion.
So what you're, I think what you're saying is if, if Dak really wanted to be,
in Dallas, he wants to resign,
and he's going to force it by holding out.
I think what I'm kind of saying is if he's,
you know, a team player,
which he's shown to be over the course of his career,
if he's a leader, which he's also,
you know, in my opinion,
shown to be over the course of his career,
he's going to stay and have those kind of contract negotiations,
you know, in quietly in the background,
show up for camp, get his guys ready
and get the team ready for the season.
I guess that's kind of my argument on that.
No, and listen, this is speculative,
because I agree with you,
Dex, a great guy and a team dude, and maybe to his detriment, where, you know, he's sitting there and
saying, like, this is just not the way I do things. Like, I'm going to go out there as a lame duck
year for me. I'm going to try to ball out. And he could be thinking, like, hey, it's a lame duck
year for me. I need every rat. Yeah. You know, it might be something in between what both of us
are speculating, which, you know, I'm throwing the, hey, why wouldn't he hold out? If he wanted to be a
cowboy and you're saying that's not who he is, he wants to be there for his brothers. I think it could be in the
middle too where he's like, I don't give a fuck about any of these people, but it's me against the
world. And I'm going to have a better chance throwing to CD Lamb and Jalen Tolbert and handing the
ball off to Zeke Elliott and a couple other guys and all these question marks. I need all the reps I can
get. I need to find out what I got to work with because this is the biggest audition of my life.
This has got to feel like the biggest audition of his life. People always talk about like biggest
audition in your life's the combine and all that. But if you're Dak Prescott, you've got everything.
You have money, you have accolades, you have respect.
You know, you played for the Cowboys your whole career at a high level.
The one thing he doesn't have, though, is a Super Bowl or run into Super Bowl.
He doesn't maybe feel like he's been able to show who he is in the postseason.
His ticket out is maybe his last chance to do that because it's not going to happen in Dallas.
And so I look at this and say maybe it is the biggest.
audition of his life.
And he might tell you that.
So that's maybe why he's putting his head down and working.
Griss, what do you say we move on from quarterbacks, man?
These guys got all the fucking love.
Yeah, they're a bunch of pussies.
Except Anthony Richardson.
Anthony Richardson is, he's got the opposite problem.
Tough guy.
He's like a dick.
You know the Team America World Police?
Like, Dick's, pussies, that assholes.
Play that.
That's the speech.
that Chris Ballard is given to Anthony Richardson.
Yeah.
We don't slide here.
The dicks fuck the pussies and sometimes they fuck the assholes,
but the assholes shit all over the dicks and the pussy.
That's, okay.
I fucking love that movie, man.
I haven't seen that.
That's a great movie.
I promise.
I'll never die.
Yeah.
Dude, I say that quote so much.
I quote that movie way too much for a 32.
Way too much.
Not going to lie, way too much.
All right, Cowboy, what's this game even?
Let's play a game.
Let's play a game.
News or not news from NFL training camp.
We've got some stories for you guys.
You guys determine if this is actual news or if it is nothing.
First one, Vic Fangio talks about Bryce Huff's ability to play the run and be an every down player.
Is this news or not news?
Well, I think everybody thought he could.
and knowing that the floor was just rushed down.
But he's taking the challenge on very well.
And I do think he has the talent to do what we wanted to do.
It's just he's got to get familiar with doing it.
And so we'll be a work in progress.
Does he look like he can do it today?
No.
But I do think eventually he will.
That's not news.
That's not news.
You know what this is to me, Chris?
this is a fucking old head of NFL defensive coordinator and Vic.
He was maybe a little bit unhappy with this free agent signing and how he's taking to the new defense.
And he's trying to motivate him a little bit in the media.
That's kind of what I'm getting out of this.
Yeah, I think it's news because what it might tell you is that you just alluded to it.
Maybe it's like it wasn't unanimous in the building.
And like when he said he goes, I think we all knew the floor was that he could just rush the passer.
Right.
like but that's not why you that deal that he signed yeah if von miller if prime von miller only
rushed the pastor that's the kind of money prime bond miller gets like and von miller's playing
first and second down too like so i think there is some expectation in the money that he was paid
that he's going to be able to set an edge and for angio to admit at this point in camp
that right now i don't think he's now i'm not putting words as much
out.
Ready to be in every down player.
Is he ready to stop the run?
Like for him to say at this moment in time, no.
Well, we get a lot of work to do, you know, and I'm a big fan of Bryce Huff in the
packaging I saw him last year.
Now, we'll see if I like him as much when I see him on first and second down all the damn
time.
And they're running power and counter and, you know, and downhill stuff at him.
But I just, I look at the NFL now and I say training camp is a lot different.
where if you had a guy in 2007 who needed a lot of work, you could get that work in.
You get it in pads.
You're going to get inside run every day.
You're going to get two practices a day.
You do not have the same amount of reps in the run game that you would in past
eras of the NFL.
So it's a little bit of a tough sound bite to hear, you know, because that's going to put a lot
of pressure on Nolan Smith, who I heard gain 10 pounds of muscle.
And this is playing out just how I heard it last year,
is this kid's talented. We really like him, but he needs an offseason. And so maybe the insurance
factor that they knew was coming all along was Nolan Smith is this unknown commodity on first
and second down and we're not going to have to worry about him. We're paying him on a rookie deal.
So out of these two players, maybe we get one full defensive end and it could be a nice setup.
But yeah, I think it's a little bit news, Bo. No, this is just a coach, an old, old school coach.
had a long day maybe a little grouchy trying to motivate one of his new players that's all i got out of
that that's fair they're still better off than they would be with hasan redick who's still holding out
true yeah that's a tough deal but you got to feel like the jets are going to pay him because they know
it's time to be all in right now like what are you going to let this guy not play like a lot of
your future professionally hinges on this let's just figure it out
News or not news.
The Guardian caps now all have skull caps on them
to make them look a little more like a regular helmet.
Is this exciting for you guys?
Would you wear a skull cap?
Dude, anytime I hear the phrase or the term guardian cap,
my dick just gets fucking instantly limp.
Soft.
Soft.
It's softer than a guardian cap.
Usually when Bo's watching training camp footage is hard.
Fucking usually rocked up.
Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the Guardian caps.
I think this is dumb.
I mean, I understand that they limit the impact and the, you know, non-concussive impacts and all that good stuff.
But I think if they were very successful in, you know, limiting this stuff on a full-time basis, they would have been implemented long ago.
I think they're lame as hell.
I think they're stupid.
Oh, not a fan.
Oh, cool.
You wear a, it's like the helmet equivalent of a big hat.
It looks stupid.
It's dumb.
Makes you look slow.
And what? You're not going to forget your keys when you get done playing.
Forgetting your keys is my favorite part of the day.
It gives me a cover and an excuse to do whatever the fuck I want when I run into the house.
Or forget something.
Oh, we'll take two cars.
I'm going to hang back for a couple minutes.
You know, like there's all types of things that happened as a result of football that I'm actually okay with.
And wearing these fucking guardian caps is stupid.
It's not worth it.
Do you think wearing Jason Kelsey's guardian cap would be a better look?
look for all the players?
I didn't see that.
That's fine.
Oh, that's, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, where bubble wrap.
Yeah.
Well, that tells you how Jason Kelsey feels about the guardian.
Seriously.
And what would Jason Kelsey be in case I didn't make that clear, not news.
What would Jason Kelsey be if he wore a guardian cap his whole career?
He'd probably be boring.
His personality has a bright amount of angel dust.
He'd have guardian cap beer, not garage beer.
garage beer we get here
all right news or not news
Brian Daible showed up to training camp
looking slim and fit
and he said his 50 pound weight loss
was due to him
his new Pilates routine
that he picked up this off season
called DTR Blotis and Wyckoff
a friend of my wife's
and we were having dinner on a Sunday
a few months ago and I said hey
I think I want to try that so I started going
the first few weeks.
I was not too pleased with it.
It was pretty sore.
But, you know, try to stick with it.
You'll go pretty early in the morning.
As you get older, there's less things you can do.
So we'll see how that goes.
You don't have a lot of time to do other things other than football.
So we'll see how it goes.
Yeah, a little Pilates routine called O-Zempic.
Stop it.
You're so mad because he looks sexy.
He looked great.
I'm not.
going to lie, but you don't lose 50 pounds just doing Pilates, all I'm going to say. Take it from a man who lost 60 pounds.
You want to know how you lose 50 pounds? It's called a complete and total lifestyle change, not fucking one class of Pilates a day.
Well, maybe he's getting his microbiome right. By the way, Dr. Fax in Montana, and he looks fantastic, dude. He looks like John Baystow. And I asked him what he's been doing. And he said, I've been on that microbiome shit. So sometimes it is something simple. And I want to say this, I'm a big fan of Brian Dable.
And I hate the fact that they're just,
they're just loading him on a fucking kamikaze airplane this year to crash into the bottom of the NFC East.
I hate it because I'm a big fan of Brian Davel, the guy and the coach.
And I think also instead of saying, hey, this might be the sexiest coach in the NFC East.
We're saying, Ozempic, you're burying the lead here.
He might be the hottest coach in the NFC East.
Hmm.
I mean, Siriani.
I wish I wouldn't know the bags under his eyes I got talked to me yeah he's got the Pete
davison eyes yeah you can't be you can't be hot and the girls like that though Chris
they like that Pete Davidson look yeah well they like the Pete Davidson look because he's
famous and every time you fuck him you're getting the tabloids for a couple months
you don't get in the tabloids fucking Brian dable or maybe you would hypothetically I just want
to say this he might be the hottest coach in the NFC East you thought Siriotti
I brought the bags up.
I wish Macon were here because he always could tell you who's hot and who's not.
I'll play Macon.
What about Dan Quinn?
That goatee?
I don't know if women find Dan Quinn attracted.
I think they might find Brian.
He's got that Bruce Willis swagger, you know.
Ladies that listen to the show.
Yeah, he's got a little Bruce Willis and him.
Tell us.
To answer your question about whether that's news or not news,
I just think you know we need fucking NFL football game when it's,
not even a comment on a player having a great offseason.
They're talking about a head coach losing weight and coming into the building
looking ready to go.
I feel like, Dave's it's awesome.
I'm losing all that weight,
but like, Jesus Christ,
can we get to some fucking football already?
Oh my God.
Well, he had to back up his claim in hard knocks.
He said he could run a 5.040 and everybody was laughing at him.
There's no way.
There's no way.
Two years out of football, we did a.
Or maybe it's 6.0.
Yes, 6.0.
I mean, he's not a tall guy.
Like, you can't tell me he's a strider.
No champ.
Well, Macon didn't run a 6.0, and it'd be funny to think he just got outrun by
formerly big Brian Dable.
Now he's, now he's Bruce Willis.
Throw hard is the new season.
Remember die hard?
It's throw hard where Daniel Jones consistently overthrows Malik neighbors.
And the new Bruce Willis character, what was his name in the fucking John McLean?
John McLean, this installment actually saves the day by starting Drew Locke, week three.
I got the whole screenplay here, dude.
Throw hard.
Grow hard.
Sorry, any John McClain.
News or not news, Jim Harbaugh doing just about every single one of the training camp lifting regimens.
he's here he is pulling some of his players
look how jerky he looked bro
yeah they
wearing cleats too
yeah you got to wear cleats
they like this guy and by the way
if you want a good workout
drag a sled backwards that's a great workout
it really does your quads
your knees feel better afterwards the whole
thing um I just love that
that harbaw seem you know how some coaches
we'd have coaches that would come down
locker and be like, what are you guys listening to? And like, you know, obviously kind of dorky
and trying too hard. This guy, this guy's not trying too hard. This is just who he is, dude.
Like, and the players, you can tell love it. How do you not, though? I mean, he's so fucking, like,
he's like the perfect combination of just bizarre, but also, like, totally on top of it. You know what I
mean? Like, I, I don't know. I love this. I love hard. That's a pretty good sled pole for a guy who just
came out of the womb.
Hey, no, honestly,
I love seeing these new modalities
for flipping a tire because that's essentially
what they're doing.
I've never seen that.
You're track your tires.
This is like gentrified tire flipping.
Otherwise, I think it's great.
I'm gonna say,
we need more hobbit on it.
Like, let's just follow them around with the fucking GoPro all day.
Like, I need more of this.
But like,
by the way,
this is great.
I love him.
He's doing it in khakis.
Yeah,
that's because he's built.
different, bro. He does that everything in khakis. Cackeys and cleats. I agree. What else you need?
News. All right. News. We need more of that. News or not news? Carly Lloyd said she got multiple
offers from NFL teams after hitting a 55-yard field goal at Eagles training camp. Not news. We've heard
this. I've heard this every year. She was on Hard Knocks too with the Texans. Okay, but I get it.
I'm a huge Carly Lloyd fan. My wife's claim to fame as she guarded her.
in high school and she's a big carly lloyd fan we all like carly logg lock her down she didn't she didn't
say all that but what i what a hit three is a size difference there but the thing is we've seen this
every year now i mean like do i think a woman could kick in the nfl eventually yeah um do i think
it's going to happen in the next like year or two like no because if if nobody's signing carly lloyd
who would undoubtedly sell tickets then it's just not going to happen and harrison bucker's head would
bloat.
Oh,
Bucker.
Can you imagine
Bucker at the
pro bowl with
Carly Lloyd
on the same bus?
Oh,
that'd be good.
Like,
oh my God.
I'm trying to think
of all the things
that would happen.
We need Carly Lloyd
to kick a fucking
football
through the glass ceiling.
Not news,
either way.
Not news.
What?
Like,
if it was news,
fucking tell us.
The teams.
You know?
Yeah, and I hadn't even heard this before.
I thought this is like you just pulled this from like 2019 when it happened five years ago or four years ago or three.
Every year we do this.
No.
Not news.
Next.
All right.
News or not news.
Josh Sweat almost seems like you let slip that number nine with the Eagles, Nick Foles's old number is unofficially retired.
He was trying to change numbers.
He said he wore nine in high school.
but he couldn't get number nine with the Eagles.
I just need to change, man.
You know, just like when I cut my hair, I just wanted to feel new.
What made you pick 19?
Oh, that was available.
I tried to get 15, but that jank was retired back in like 1950.
I need to go ahead and bring that back out.
94 or nothing?
I like it.
I feel a little bit.
I feel fresh.
So there's no history with 19 that we're in high school?
I wore nine in high school and I wore nine in college,
but I can't get nine now because it's tired.
I'm going to say news on this one, Chris.
I didn't know Nick Foles' jersey was or number was unofficially retired.
Sounds to me like someone saying he couldn't rock number nine.
I, you know, call me no Strobomis here.
We see Nick Foles in number nine at some point,
maybe for a one day or this year.
Oh, wow.
Now, that's interesting, though.
Maybe.
I think Swaydie J.
Let a little song to slip here.
I think he might have.
And it's also really fun to watch Swaydie J talk as a big vet, dude.
Also, he's talking about what I cut my hair.
I wanted to change.
I'm like, bro, we could have cut your hair during hazing?
And she made it all difficult.
I think Swaydie J was just scared to wear number 94 because it's already been occupied by an Eagles legend.
It's a tough act of fall.
you know he needed a change big shoes to feel for sweaty jay for sure big time news cowboy remember he used to
drive that stupid little motorcycle car he used to park it outside and they get rained on i don't fault
him for that i'm a moped guy dude i love that shit i love him for that news or no news uh d b cooper de jean
was seen uh in the rookie show trying to trying his best m&m in
impression. That's crazy. A white DB rapping Eminem. Never thought I'd see that. That's wild.
Not news. He deserved to get boot off stage. That's just low-hanging fruit, man.
Yeah. Yeah. Come with something better. Yeah, he should, he should have done like KRS woman.
He walks out, whoop, whoop, who.
Reed thought of a great nickname for him by accident, though, D.B. Cooper. That's the famous,
like, uh, criminal that took off on the plane, disappeared with a lot of money.
Yeah.
So why?
Because Reed called him D.B. Cooper DeGine.
That's pretty funny, but it would be even funnier if he would steal something and disappear.
A black man's job.
What?
That's true.
Oh, God.
What's more difficult, honestly, statistically, to become a white defense back of the NFL?
Or a rob a bank.
at all or to steal from an airplane and leave in a parachute and never be found white db no doubt
i think so i think db cooper was a pussy oh that's so good try playing corner or safety and vcangio
and and it would not be melanched you know that's tough dude i b b cooper has nothing on uh
What's his name?
Cooper de Jean.
Not Ryler.
You're Riley?
Jesus Christ.
That's another thing he's got to overcome.
The last guy named Cooper who is white is something.
What else we got for us, Cowboy?
You all know Mack Hollins.
News or not news of him just coming out to practice barefoot.
When I asked Bill's players about Mac Collins,
They all said the same thing.
I love Mac.
Max often.
One of my favorite players.
Honestly, probably one of my favorite people I've ever met.
Like, godly.
And that's because, well, Mac's a little different.
Like, every team I've been on there can be like, who's the weirdest guy?
They're gonna say Mac.
I say interesting.
Yeah, yeah, it's not like a bad weird.
Yeah, he's crazy.
He's Tarzan.
Yeah, and just like Tarzan, Mac doesn't wear shoes.
I think shoes are a tool.
And people have made them.
a part of their body.
Like I wouldn't walk around with a hammer just because I might need a hammer sometimes.
Now he does work cleats because he has to, but he calls them footplace.
Like look at that little tiny toe box.
How you gonna fit your toes in there?
But this barefoot thing is catching on.
Joe is out here, Shoo is yesterday for a walkthrough.
Started walking around barefoot yesterday.
You know, when you look around there's 10 other guys barefoot.
Nobody is walking around barefoot in life yet.
I think I'm the only one.
doing that one. Now this no shoes thing is just the beginning of Mac's unique personality.
Oh, it's my man Josh! Like his thoughts on cats. Small cats will steal your soul, never have him
around. If it's a house cat, that'll steal your soul. Or the fact that he doesn't use utensils.
Like what happened that people said you got to start using utensils? Your hands will help you digest
because your body knows that it's coming. Your hands will get the temperature of the food so you can
better understand what it's going to be before it goes in your mouth so you don't burn your tongue of your
and you're more cognizant of washing your hands.
People are like, it's dirty.
No, it's not, because I know I'm about to eat with my hands
so I gotta wash them.
A lot of y'all don't wash your hands out the bathroom,
let alone, let alone that went before you eat.
Yeah, Mac says that nothing he does is just for the fun of it.
Everything has a purpose.
But look, at the end of the day,
it's just Mac being Mac, the most interesting player in Buffalo.
Hey, how long before Rex Ryan pulls up?
It's a day.
Hey, by the way, in the beginning with that that no utensils thing, I was like, Max, Matt, get the fuck out of here.
By the way, we're all nodding along every time one of his teammates is like, yeah, he's the best.
He's the weirdest.
He's fucking crazy.
Like, we're just like, yep, yep, has not changed.
That's exactly who he is.
He's getting slightly weirder over time, but I mean, don't we all, you know?
Yeah, exactly.
We all do.
And he was just kind of different to start.
but like I actually texted Max or I texted Mac today because we might be going up to see the Buffalo
Bills practice here coming up soon and I'm hoping to see Mac.
Maybe what we'll do is we'll sit down with Mac and have a whole meal without utensils.
Max can be eating with his feet next, dude.
No, he can't eat with his feet.
We're not going to allow that.
But I can't wait to see Mac.
He is a great dude.
And I was nodding like along at the end of the food thing.
You know, like the not to mention he even say this.
We spent a lot of time washing him.
utensils.
Yeah.
You know, it's a lot of wasted water.
I'm all for it.
I used to eat salad with my hands.
Yeah, so we'll do a Mac week maybe this fall where we got to go shoelist and eat with
our hands, which is not going to be difficult for me.
I mostly walk around shoeless, but I can't wait to see Mac when we go to Buffalo.
If we go to Buffalo, I actually think he's going to be a help up there.
Yeah, that fucker is one of a kind.
I love Mac.
Great guy.
News or not news, the Chiefs are running a quadruple pass play.
This came out of a training camp today.
We're all sure that you.
So is that news or is that just a bunch of magic dust that they're throwing around?
Well, the lead is that they're playing whalen during practice.
I fucking love this organization.
And then on top of that, it is news because you know when they show something in camp,
they're setting something up.
Andy Reed knows their camp for this.
Or are they going to run,
you're going to, the third reverse,
you're going to be like, yep, saw this in camp.
Now they're not going to hand it off again.
Is Andy going to be like,
Syke showed you the exact fucking play
and you thought there was something else coming?
I think it's not news, Chris,
because that's just Andy Reid being Andy Reid.
That's just the status quo for him, baby.
All right, news or not news?
Tyson Baygent was at the podium the other day,
and he let slip when, and he let slip that he has one heck of a offseason training program.
I was too busy grinding my absolute face off in the off season.
June 19th, shout out to one of my best friends, Derek Gallagher, one mile burpee brawl jump.
Hour and seven minutes.
Let's go.
Is that a big for a mile?
Burpee brawl jump.
Burpee brawl jump.
The best part of the clip was in the beginning where he was like,
I've been grinding my face off.
And I was like, yeah, right, quarterback.
Yeah.
And then I remember that his dad's fucking huge.
Tyson Bejan has one of the most imposing, cool-looking dads in the NFL.
Takes one to no one, though.
Yeah.
And I know his dad was making him do hard stuff.
And it turns out that he's doing something in the offseason that even position players with Winset, which is burpee.
broad jump. That sounds fucking awful.
You have my respect, sir.
That sounds horrible.
I would never do that.
A 10 foot broad jump, if you still could.
I mean, like 10 feet, 5,280 feet.
That's a mile.
I mean, like, just do some quick math here.
I mean, that's, that's 528 bra jumps.
That's awful.
I mean, by the 528th, you're jumping seven feet.
So make it a thousand.
And get, get Dable doing that workout.
He probably was.
And I'll be impressed.
I just want to say, I don't, I don't like what you did to Brian Dable.
You were hating on it.
You, you pawned off on an OZempe when I think he did it the honest way.
Time will tell, Chris.
Are a lot of people doing OZempic?
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
You're going to say OZMPEC four more times, and you're going to start getting some targeted ads on Instagram.
OZMPIC, OZMPIC, OZMPIC, OZEEEG.
Yeah.
Chris, remember when we did karaoke?
Here in Montana?
Yeah, take Nate out for some karaoke.
Oh, it is.
Wednesday, well, he's going to be going to be gone by then.
You need to play that never-before-seen footage of me stealing the mic from a 12-year-old and singing a zombie in the bar.
For those of you who think that this country is doomed,
we're more divided than ever.
You should have been there at the grill up here in Montana.
when me and this guy in a back the blue t-shirt did the most amazing rendition of wanted dead or alive
is that the bon jovi song yeah i mean this guy and i couldn't be any more diametrically opposed
ideologically uh and we nailed the duet it was incredible i mean it was incredible so
the earth is healing earth is here
He didn't really have the t-shirt on, but after the gig that we played, we walked out of the parking lot, and he was like, great job.
And I was like, great job.
And I looked at his truck, and it was, like, covered in bumper stickers.
Yeah.
But you sing.
Fuck it.
You get up there and you sing, guys.
Sing to heal the world.
Hey, I'll end with a layup line.
Shout out to Spotify.
who blesses me with
you know their Spotify
New Music Discovery thing
the other day
they were like, here are some albums
I was like, let me get some albums. They were like,
here are six white noise
compilations
Delbert
McClinton albums. Delbert
McClinton is fantastic.
The song is Lost in a Dream.
I'm going to do a double feature. We'll do Lost in a Dream
or two more bottles of wine.
Two more bottles of wine is a banger.
That was the first.
Delbert McClinton song I ever heard and I was like, who the fuck is this guy? And I was dumbfounded.
I was also dumbfounded at the fact that they spent so much money to build this powerful computer
at Spotify and they don't know that I'm listening to white noise too soon.
Fix that shit. Figure it out. I need six more good albums, man, Spotify every week. You're
only giving me two at a time. So that's my layup line. Everybody have a great weekend or a great week.
whatever the fuck day it is.
I'll be leaving Montana soon and we'll be getting back to normal.
Whatever that is.
The earth is healing.
And now we'll welcome on Minnesota Viking, Jonathan Gronardt.
Hey, y'all.
Greenlight has official merch like this hat right here, like the one on my head, this dad
hat.
Love this hat.
I'm not even a dad hat guy, but this thing fits great.
This, this hat right here fits great.
We've got hoodies.
We've got tea by the way this hoodie is like super comfy. I mean it's like soft
plush it's not the type of hoodie that's going to get stiff with one wash and the
shirts too because like I'm a big comfort guy okay you got like this white shirt here
you got the shirt with the logo the Abbey Road looking logo with Dr. Fax smoking
presumably a blunt Kyle carrying cowboy reed making driveling a basketball which I've
never seen him actually do and me carrying a football and then you've got the the black shirt here too
with the logo so uh stickers hit the link in the description in the video uh below the video actually
and make sure to tag us on social media showing off your green light merch it's quality quality
threads here okay wouldn't do it any other way all right this is a guy that I really enjoyed watching
last year he's got a lot of tools in the toolbox I don't think you got enough credit now he's up in
Minnesota and I'm pretty sure he'll be chasing a lot of quarterbacks in the NFC North.
His name is John Gernard.
John, how you doing, ma'am?
I'm great, man, knowing in that early part of camp, so it ain't got up on us just yet.
But, you know what I mean, it's good to see the guys get back into it and how that feel
working towards the season for sure.
That was going to be my first question.
Like, is it a shock in a good way when you go up and you camp in Minnesota and it's like
80 degrees and you're not going to use to heat?
Yeah, they're talking about, man, it's going to be hot today.
I'm like, listen, if this is what you're calling hot, man, I'm good.
I can live with this.
And when it gets to the foot part when they say it's cold, now, that's out of my ballpark.
Yeah, we don't know yet.
I mean, that's funny because you're at Florida.
You know why I know that, actually, well, now I remember, was because you guys
kicked our ass in the Orange Bowl.
Yep, yep, yep, yep, back in Virginia boys.
Yep, I'm already knowing.
I remember that.
That was fun.
Like I said, I've been in the heat for the past, you know, my last year at Florida since now,
so that's, what, four or five years?
My last five years, I've been in straight heat.
So I had a little bit of taste of it in Louisville when I first went to, got my undergrad over there.
So, you know, it has a little bit of cold times at times.
It snow a little bit, but obviously not to this capacity, but definitely know how it feels a little bit.
Well, good, man.
You get a little extra wind up there in camp.
Take me through why you pick Minnesota.
We had Blake Cashman on last week, and he gave us a little intel about the process that you guys went through
and kind of the overlapping of decision making,
what did it come down to for you personally
and how did it tie in with Blake,
your old teammate,
now up in Minnesota?
Yeah, I played in a similar system like this
before at Louis and Florida
on my last year of school.
So I had an idea of, you know,
the terminology and obviously
a new flow added its own element to it
by being super aggressive with that time
so I can get my one-on-ones who need it.
And I just had me moving,
pretty much using me at all my abilities,
you know, as aggressive he wants to be,
just like using all of that.
And then obviously, just the feel for everything.
I mean, K-O and, you know, Flo and Quasi, all of these guys, I mean, they had woke me with open arms.
And I just felt like I could just be myself.
I could finally have that breath of fresh air, you know, play ball and, you know, not worry about, you know, messing up or something like that.
They're just saying, look, you playing fast and we make a mistake, we're good.
You know, we're not going to hound you for, you playing ball.
And then I honestly didn't know Cash was coming down because we actually spoke about it.
we went to Kamu's wedding our teammate now he went to he got me with Hawaii so we were actually
in Hawaii before free agency started and we're just kind of looking at it up like I mean
what are you thinking like what have you heard and we both were spitting teams back and forth
but we never just looked at each other and thinking like you know Minnesota at the time you know
they but they stepped up and I think whenever I signed uh not long after I looked at the phone
and my wife was like no way I think cash is signed I'm like think I'm like hold on so I check
social media instantly, I call him ASAP. And I'm like, ain't no way. And we both were looking at each other.
We were just excited. I'm really super excited for him because he's from me as we know. And it's just a
coming home party for him. And I see how to people embrace him. And me being a part of that as well,
being with him for the last two, three years, man, it's been great. So that way I can make that transition
a lot more easier and I can play a lot fast. That freedom and you keep talking about playing fast.
and like I've been in schemes where you had to think a lot and you weren't able to freelance
and, you know, have the take-its and the things that should be up and unders and all that.
Was it a little more stringent in Houston?
Is that what I'm hearing?
And not in a negative way, but just a little bit of a, you know, this is your gap.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, when you're running that four down, I mean, it's just kind of like that sometimes.
Sometimes you have to stay on the edges and make these things, you know, cutbacks at the edge.
And that's what we're all about here as well.
But obviously, we just don't want to just blackboard everything and don't want to take away the natural
aspect of what got you here to these points.
So, yeah, man, I just feel like, I guess I got a little bit more freedom to do these things.
And at the same time, I'm still playing ball and not, you know, it's still within an integrity
of the defense.
So it just keeps you honest and keeps you guessing.
And that also sets myself up too.
So whenever I am going to shoot it, I can or if I ever want to just feed up field or
whatever the case and be, I can just truly just put all those things on tape and keep guys
guessing and just be effective as much as possible.
So having that, having the DC behind me on that aspect,
and the head coach as well,
and the team in general, knowing that I've done it before,
they know what I'm about, they know what I'm about to do.
And it's always, I'm going to make the player,
they're going to set some idea up for it.
So I love it, man.
I'm excited.
I love B. Flo, got a chance to play for him in New England.
I know a couple things about it.
And the defense is, I'm sure, not the same exactly as it was in New England.
But I just remember getting a lot of checks right before that ball snap.
So is that something that you've become?
I'm accustomed to is like having that your brain on in a different way right up until that ball snap.
Yeah, and that's why I kind of alluded back to how it was in college, you know.
I was kind of hearing that same things in college in general.
But I honestly was one of the guys that was making the checks too because I just studied so hard
within the system just to try to figure out when can I make my player?
When can I, you know, have the freedom to do something like this?
So when do I have to stay outside, when I have to get inside into a gap?
So me learning it now definitely makes it easier.
maybe they do say these things.
I mean, I'm not looking at, okay, well, I got to do this or step down here,
this and that.
Flo's trying to make it as much as easy as possible.
This game is steadily evolving in every defense that I've been a part of 4334, 425,
whatever you want to call it.
It's just all of these things that allow you to, you have to study the book
in order to want to know your number is called.
So it's definitely was an adjustment at first,
but now seeing how it affects the offense and it sets me up or set us somebody else up,
oh, man, it's going to be a good thing.
Do you line up in different spots there?
Like, have you been in different alignments than you're maybe accustomed to lately, but maybe more like Louisville or what have you?
Yeah, it's a little bit of both.
I mean, I think just in general, I mean, everybody don't be on that edge regardless.
But at times, it's a little switchup at times.
And that just comes within this game.
And we've seen that all around with how flow running stuff in the past, even when he was in Miami as well.
They had different guys moving and this and that.
So he has to use a lot of us.
I mean, it won't be just me doing all the moving.
And it's me, gink, you know, DT, Pat Jones.
I mean, we literally have three, I call it a three-four-head, honestly, five-headed monster.
When it comes to our edges and that keeps everybody guests,
because we all have different traits and different things to ourselves that make us who we are.
So I'm excited to see I use as that as well.
So I'm looking forward to all of it.
Coming off a huge year, double digits, really, you know, I thought you got,
you didn't get enough credit down there.
And now you're in Minnesota where maybe some fans hadn't seen you play as
much. I know how you play, but can you describe to people listening who might not have seen
you play before what kind of a rusher you are? What's your process? Are you an option rusher?
Do you plan things out? Are you more power? You more speed for people at home?
Yeah. I mean, I think in my how I've learned how to rush, everything will be set up off power.
I mean, I'm an aggressive guy who I can get to you in about two, three steps. You know,
other guys can chop and get there. I mean, by the time you get to your spot, I'm already up on you.
So you might have to deal with my power.
You might have to deal with my length.
You might have to deal with a swipe.
So I just feel like my fastball is just getting on them so quick
and making them have to make a decision.
You know, either you're going to set to be outside and I'm going to go inside
or you're going to set to where you don't know and we're going to run right through you.
So either one of me, they see the size.
And I think that's a lot of things.
It kind of snuck up on a lot of people last year.
They don't see.
I'm not the biggest guy.
But I know how to play ball.
And I think that's why I've always just using my advantages.
I'm a ball player at the end of the day.
So whatever you want to see, whatever you don't give me,
whatever you struggle with, I'm exploited for sure.
So that aggressive mentality, you know, people will say,
oh, you got paid, it's going to be this and that.
All right, listen, y'all, I've only scratched the surface of what I can really,
truly do in this league.
And that's just going to be, I'm just going to continue to put that on tape.
I mean, it's not really need for me to speak on them much more.
The fans, they have an idea of what they're getting, but I rather show them
and tell them.
So I love that.
Yeah, I love your power complex because I just feel like, you know,
some coaches, they'll say, hey, don't run down the middle of people,
but they don't understand that that.
sets up the edge. They don't understand that shortens the corner if you're not a Von Miller,
which I wasn't a Von Miller and I don't think you're just going. I'm not in that corner like that
at certain times. You got to set it up. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I just love your game, man. And a young
guy, you get to work with Dallas Turner, really high hip guy, long strider, different kind of guy.
What do you see from him as far as his development's concerned and what are the kind of moves he's
got in this toolbox that kind of wow you early.
Sure. Yeah. We kind of built similar. You know what I'm saying? I got long legs,
long limbs. He's the same thing, short torso, so I build. But my main thing is the same thing
with him. You run a four-four. You need to get up on them fast. Like, you try to get here,
and that's why, you know, you see all these different, you know, workout videos where guys are
these pastures and stuff. Like, yeah, it's cool to work these moves, but I say you work these,
but you have to work while still gaining ground. And everything's going to be set up off of this
power, you know. You got these insanely long arms.
If your first move is not a long-goer or some type of power to make them respect your length
and then give you the hands, then you're just going to be sitting there trying to work on moves.
And as we know, tag is going to throw their hands.
They're waiting on you to throw your moves now so they can just sit there and grab.
So I said, look, use that to your advantage.
If they want to be that outside hand-punch the guy, run through their chest.
Then you get what you want.
Everything is not going to come right, this and there to look for a pretty sack.
I don't win pretty.
Everybody knows I don't win clean pretty rushes.
I don't like them.
I mean, I feel like that gives them more chances to come back and recover.
I'm like, nah, I want you to be able to be able.
That's why you mentioned short my head.
So if I'm going to show me up, I don't care,
a sack is a sap.
Ball is out.
I just need to be within arms reed so I can tip the ball.
I had a couple times where I talk to him.
Listen, change your mindset of just going forward,
wrapping the quarterback up to, hey, all you got to do is get the ball out.
So whatever that radius is between your lymph,
between you setting up a stab to shorten that edge.
You don't have to necessarily,
I would just win a perfect clean rush quarterback standing right there
while you still got a guy in your arm, knock the ball out,
simple stuff like that.
So just switching the perspective of just.
just being disruptive, you know, a simple bullwrest and make the quarterback get his
toes stepped on by his tackle.
They hate that, you know, and that quarterback's going to start drifting back a little bit more.
Now you didn't set them up to shorten your heads more.
Now he's in that nine, you all set a seven and a half, you know, so these things all matter.
And I just think that that's where I bring that different element of just trying to break
the game down to where it slowed down, because I know it helped me.
I was always a guy trying to go out there, you know.
Initially, I was a guy that just ran down the middle of guys, but I didn't understand the process
of doing that of what could lead to.
So me running down in the middle of the guys sometimes, hey, look, I just want to say he's going to handle this power.
I mean, because you're not going to just sit here and just go back and get comfortable in your set, you know, because then that's in your field.
Always being on my terms is what I preach to him and him having to stab.
And that's what you see on my tape.
First thing, I'm pretty much going to thought that.
I don't care.
Who knows it?
Stab and a bull.
I mean, that's, well, speed the fire.
You can't say bull anymore now.
But speed the power.
But that's one of the things, man.
Use that to your advantage.
I mean, whenever we're going fast and getting on them quick, it makes them panic, man.
I don't care who you are.
The best of the best tell you that, too.
A couple things, man.
Number one, you said it like, you're not always winning pretty, but I swear to you,
some of the prettiest rushes don't get, they don't get home.
You know, you have a clean spin, bro, and nobody sees it.
Take you wrong.
And then you're like, now you don't want it.
And then you're not going to use it too, because that's why I tell them.
I said, brother, I can't find a rush that I went on a cross shop.
I haven't.
I'm sorry.
I mean, some guys I've seen them do that,
these nice pretty sacks, but that's not me.
So what I'm going to keep trying to work in these moves.
So I used to watch rushes like you, you know, Terrell's drugs,
the guys who had the grimy sacks, I mean, junkyard,
you know, all these guys who get the, you know,
they don't look the prettiest, but the technique is the same.
They understand their body.
They understand how to play football.
And there's a difference between the team playing, you know,
being a specimen knowing how to make moves and then being a ball player.
So I think that just speaks your career for sure.
I mean, you're a ball player.
you understand what plays you're going to get,
how guys are going to block you.
So why make your job harder?
You know what I'm saying?
You know what that is?
That's just understanding you have some deficiencies
and knowing how to work around them.
I mean,
and being intentional with your plan.
Like there are very few guys who just could be like,
whatever I do is going to fucking work.
You know, most rushers have to,
and like that's what you said with Dallas is like,
if in the first five plays,
they're not feeling his strength.
And I mean his strength being length or,
get off, like, then he's letting him off the hook.
So another young guy that you undoubtedly rubbed off on is Will Anderson.
And I love the way he plays.
And when you leave, is it kind of bittersweet because you're like, man, look what you
become in just a year, but now I got to leave and watch it from a distance.
Yeah, I think that was the whole thing about the transition.
And I was very transparent through it all just like, yeah, I was more so, I guess you could say,
felt the way because we had losing seasons all my past three.
years and then we finally get to that point where we get to the first get your foot in the door for
the playoffs i'm all right now we finally can can really make up for lost time in that sense but
it's a part of the game but now just me and him we still talk pretty much every day almost like
he'll hit me up with a rush or he's saying i i finally worked when we were just talking about so
we always going to be having love in that aspect that that's just the the nature of the game but
i seen it early on when i came in with him the difference between him and dallas was dill was
came in as more of a natural
deliming as opposed to Dallas as a specimen.
He can do all things. He can rush.
He can cover. He can speed. I mean,
you name it. And I think now that's where I come
into now and say, hey, look, can't be great at everything.
You need to hone in. And obviously, we know
what the money is at. You need to go get that quarterback.
So we can sit here and talk about drops or setting the edge.
Listen, those are all want two things. Those are all,
I don't really sit there and talk to a guy about setting the edge.
I mean, either you want to set the edge or you don't.
So that's, it's a want-to thing.
And they both have that.
And I think that's one thing for sure coming out of Alabama that they had is going to set that edge.
Now it's just getting Dallas to polish up his technique and use these things and understand his body more, kind of like myself, you know, just understanding what you have and what you really do well.
Dude, I swear Dallas is going to make a million plays if they decide to run the ball at you.
Man, it's going to be crazy.
Because he is going to track the ball down the line.
And that's one thing that, like, I was never great at that because I wasn't that fast.
And there's just some guys who have that talent where that's somewhere your talent's really going to get you a lot of gimmies.
And the same thing with Will.
Like, you know, Will is a guy who can track down the line.
Here's my Texans question, bro.
Awesome.
I love C.J. Stroud.
I would ask you about questions about C.J. Stroud.
I'm a big fan of that team.
I love watching all play.
But my question is this.
Take me in the locker room.
The day, Lovie Smith messed the tank up.
Hey, that's so funny.
Man, I literally, because I got to pick that game.
You know, it's funny.
I actually got at a pick six that game.
They were mad at you, bro.
I mean, you were come off the field and my DMs and my notifications were blowing up.
What are you doing?
Like, you're messing up our pick?
And I'm like, oops, you know, like, but, man, that was crazy.
We all thought about it, man.
I was sitting there to be lying like, man, and now you.
We had number two, number one.
But at the same time now, I said, look how I worked out.
I mean, not them boys.
They're wishing they got that number two.
They thanked for that.
Yeah, dude, Lovey's a hero.
You're a hero.
Exactly.
So I'm like, listen, I'll take that.
Anytime I get a victory, I'll take it.
They should build a station, they should build a statue of Lovie and you outside of this.
Having a handshake.
So, but man, it was amazing.
I appreciate him.
Definitely appreciate the system that I was able to play him with Lovie.
And if somebody was able to get, it wasn't from him.
Obviously, I took that.
definitely some funny times in the locker room going to set out of the last year for sure i heard a lot of
great things about him i think that's one of the best things he ever did as a coach because
he gave that city one of the i think the guys going to be a hall of famer i think so 100 yeah i mean
and i still talk to them boys to this day like they all know it's still love and and it's a part
of this game um they were definitely sad as soon as i signed there they instantly called me
like what like listen hey did you did you get hunter up did you did you guys hit each other up like
I remember when Barwin left the Eagles and I left the Rams and he went,
we were calling each other like, this is who you got to look out for.
This is your guy.
You know, did you guys contact each?
Yeah, you know, it's funny.
Actually, like, because me and Will, we always talk about, we always watch tacklers around the league, period.
It didn't matter who we were playing them or, you know, we just watch the sat tape and
and then go to the actual team and watch them.
And yeah, I mean, that's because we obviously played him, I think, week three.
So I'm pretty crazy going to happen.
What do I do on this guy?
I'm like, I don't got no problem to tell you.
These guys are telling you, too, like, listen, you know what he's going on
him, you know what type of he's an outside hand punch guy. But I will say like the same
mentality how, you know, I was able to help Will out with is getting up on them now. I mean,
you get up on any type. I don't care who you are. You get up on them now, you make him,
and make a decision. And I think that's where I feel like it helped us me and Will a lot last
just because it ain't matter who we went against. You know that at end of day, I fast,
what we're coming at you and then we can then build off of that. So definitely helps us.
So his mindset ain't going to change it. I don't even need to tell him who going to line up out
there. But no contact between you and.
you replaced DeNeil and DeNeil replaced you same position.
It was almost like a trade.
Yeah.
You guys, did you guys contact each other at all?
Like, hey man.
What kind of food is in the cafeteria?
Who's the equipment manager is going to give me free stuff?
It's funny.
I actually only term him once.
I think it was about two years ago.
But yeah, it was like a brief interaction.
Then like actually swapping.
Yeah.
But yeah, I already knew he was a Texas kid.
So it all made sense at the end of the day when it all happened.
But when I actually got here, funny story, our equipment manager, Mike Carson, he was actually with me in Houston, my rookie year.
So he remembers me.
You know, we had a couple people on the training staff.
I was with the first two years in Houston as well.
And then obviously I had another trainer who was with me in college in Florida.
So it's pretty much like I knew half of the dang their half of the staff, or at least the most important people around this building so far.
So it was definitely, like I said, that transition helped out a lot more.
And I went into it, especially for the decision time.
That definitely matters.
All those people in the building make it easier hard.
And so I got one or two more for you.
Number one, going back to last year, you played with Lamar.
Yeah, at Louisville, you guys.
Yeah, yeah.
You're in the same class.
Yep.
So what was it like seeing him?
And I don't know if this is your first time seeing him since college,
but seeing him in the playoffs, going up there.
And I know it's tough because you guys, that team's building something.
And this was your first big test.
I mean, you guys won a playoff game.
But then this one is a different ball game.
So you guys are kind of watching it like, this is what it takes, right?
How cool is it to see what your college teammate has built there?
It's amazing, man.
They have the same feeling and that same confidence.
You can just feel it when you walk through there that we had when we were in college.
I mean, in my opinion, when I was in college, I didn't give damn who we played.
I mean, we literally have number eight right here.
So as long as we give them another opportunity to go win the game, then I'm always going to be fine.
But I'm super excited.
I'm happy for them.
I mean, couldn't ask for a better.
person to have all these accolades and these things happening for them. We all came in that same
class. Our class was actually pretty crazy. Mead Him, Jaya Alexander. We were all a part of that
2015 class. Jared Christian was another guy that got drafted as well. We literally all apart of it.
We all took our visits, dang near together, spring ball games. You name it. We were all there.
But man, we knew it. As soon as, like I said, first, I think it was the first scrimmage. I knew it.
I mean, he actually was live, one practice. I think it was the first camp practice we had in
Bob Petrino had him live.
We're all looking like, are you sure?
And I'm pretty sure he was looking back.
Are y'all sure?
Like, I mean, y'all sure y'all want to make him live?
Are you sure?
And he took a rezone and to about 70 yards first play.
And the next time he took another rezone and stopped on a dime.
And I mean, everybody knows the story that went to Louisville.
I mean, he ended up tearing a guy's ACL based off of him cutting so hard.
And the dudes tried to stop on a dime too.
And it was off the road.
So, Jair, you brought up Jairier and I can't stop laughing.
The reason I'm laughing is because of what he did last year when he went out for the point.
Bro, did you see that?
That's Jair.
I'm from Charlotte.
People, people think that it's like a front and anybody who knows Jaya, like, they know like that is Jaya.
Like, we always should try to just get a thing like, what type of guy is he acting or is he like this is how, like.
It's really him.
That is really Jaya.
and he's unapologetically him
and he's a ball player.
I mean, of course, I wouldn't do no crazy shit like that.
Bro, I haven't laughed so hard
that maybe I wasn't supposed to be laughing at.
But when it happened, when they said it,
and I seen when they, because all I heard about it at first
just come off a game.
And then when they said they were playing the pants,
I said, oh, it makes sense, yeah.
I mean, he's back in home.
He's from Charlotte.
Yeah, he's doing that.
So, yeah.
It's good funny, dude.
What's something about Lamar,
nobody would, like, 18,
year old Lamar when he walked in
what's something humanizing
about Superman? You know what I mean?
Because we had the spring game
right before we came in
right before we came in that next semester
we're just like
it's me Jair is another guy
that we had in our recruiting class
and we see all the fans like little
younger fans come up like hey like can't get your autograph
and we're like I'm looking at like
I mean I'm coming here too
you know like I'm in my head
I'm in the job
I mean, he's signing autographs.
I'm just sitting there like, I know this kid is good,
but God, like, it really just like a humbling moment for myself.
And I'm thinking, then they were like,
you were the guy who went video and what video.
So I remember that.
It was a viral video, you know, the one when he made the juke
and stopped on a dime and put his hands in here.
So that was coming out of high school.
I didn't know that that was him.
So, like, I'm like, oh, that was you.
So I'm like, damn, I might need to get my autograph too.
So after that point, man, it was, it was fun.
because I'm just saying like, wow, we got this dude.
And I tell me, you would never know.
I mean, I've been around some guys.
You've been around guys that they're going to tell you every single time they made a play
that, hey, man, I did this.
And when I tell you, he never speaks on anything or any acquies is ever done.
It's just like it's a given for him.
Like, it's supposed to happen.
And I think that stuck with me as well coming out, you know, when I did start
to achieve a little bit of success just how he carried himself.
I mean, he may not know.
But at the same time, we all kind of looked up to him like, you just won the Hizman.
Like the Hodgman trophy is literally, we all stay in the same apartment in the dorms in college.
The Heism trophy is literally two floors up.
And we would never know.
As far as pro quarterbacks, I got an eight-year-old son if he was like, you know, I need a couple guys to, I just want to pay attention to the kind of guy they are.
Yeah.
You know, Lamar would be one that I'd be like watch Lamar, watch the way he competes, watch where he treats teammates, watch the way he handles the media.
They love him.
Yeah, he's amazing.
Okay, last one, quarterback to quarterback.
give me the report.
I'm a big Sam Darno fan.
I think my guy deserves a little bit of an opportunity.
And I think your head coach is just the guy.
So how's that looking?
And then how's JJ looking too?
We all know what Sam was about.
I mean, I think it was what, second overall.
Four-four of all I can't remember exactly coming out of college.
I mean, we know about his arm town.
We know about him.
I played against him when he was in Carolina.
We all spoke that in our defensive meetings.
Listen, don't worry about where he's on the debt charter
or what his past has been about.
This kid has an ass.
He can make some crazy throws if you let him.
But we still see the throws every day out here in practice.
And we know what type of guy he is.
And he's just a great guy to have in this position to lead a team as well,
while also having somebody in the back,
let's be real, having a guy who's chasing after his spot.
You know what I'm saying?
So having JJ here, he understands the situation.
He's taking these things that Sam is doing and, you know,
listening and gained a whole bunch of knowledge and wisdom through it.
I feel comfortable with both of them back there.
Just because, as you mentioned before,
K.O. is going to put both of them in situations to succeed,
A lot of times these younger guys or people in quarterbacks in general get set up for failure.
They get throwing out there with a play call with the O-line that's protecting.
No, they don't have the best O-line.
They have to protect the three days.
Like, why are we doing that?
At the same time, K.O. understands he's been there before.
He understands how to run these things.
And I say for anybody, I mean, any quarterback that came here being under K.O., you know, with Josh McKeown as well.
I mean, that's another unsung hero as well.
He's a guy on his job.
Oh, he's on that stuff.
Oh, Josh is the man, dude.
Exactly. So I was with Josh and Houston a little bit too.
So understanding how he is and just that mentorship that he can give to these guys and talk to them on a level to where it's relatable instead of talking down or talking at the players, as we know, it only resonates to certain people when you're talking down or talking to them.
You can talk to me because if you talk about me, it's only going to make me go up, you know.
But in these instances, you know, it's not always like that.
And I think having him and Kaye on there to mentor to mentor JJ and then having Sam right there as well, just knowing that he's, you know,
know you know what you're going to get out of him every time. So I feel like we're set up for
success here. I mean, what happened, those two guys there, whoever they decide to pull the plug on,
regardless, I'm excited, and I know that we're going to ride it behind him, and they're going to
lead us to victory for sure. That's awesome, and you've got to show everybody the Josh McCown
basketball highlights. That'll get him to buy it, bro. That dude was nasty. All right, John
Gernard, I'm wishing you well this year. Hope you have a big year, and hope you come back on after
a big game and join us again, man. Thanks for the time.
time.
