What a game.
Seriously.
I mean, I love the NFL.
The last couple weeks have been kind of suspect slates.
And then today, it was a lot of fun.
I thought even the games that weren't supposed to be that entertaining were entertaining in the 1 PM slate.
You know, like Minnesota, Detroit, for the longest time, Dan Campbell has just absolutely owned that matchup.
They find a way Minnesota does.
to win that game.
You've got the Bears who,
the Bears who,
I thought it was free money was the way I put it.
Like they're covering,
they're winning this football game.
Caleb's going to have time.
They're going to run the ball for 200 yards.
And boy, was I fucking right.
And it damn near, went up in flames,
could not believe it.
I mean, how about the Bears giving up
a kickoff return on the road
to start a football game
against a desperate Bengals team.
It's easy to look at the Bengals and say,
hey, the Bengals don't want to be there,
yada, yada, Trey Hendricksons down.
You know, they're going to be selling parts,
and they might be after that game.
But you could see watching Jemar Chase
walking the locker room, hearing Chase Brown after the game,
those guys don't want to go home.
They haven't wanted to go home all year.
The aspirations of that team were high before Joe Burrow got hurt.
And I'll be damned if Joe Burrow, you know,
probably isn't the thing that actually sinks them.
It's just defense.
It's the same old story.
But Joe Flacco being able to kind of put up the points he's put up since he's been in the
building.
It's absolutely insane.
I guess we'll start there with the Bears game.
I turned the game off and circled it on my big board.
I have like a whiteboard here where I put all my bets and I circled it and like, you know,
like did the checkmark thing.
I know what you're going to say.
Like don't jinx it that whole thing.
Like there's no such thing as a fucking jinx.
If there was, I'd have gotten good at.
it a long time ago.
But I turned the game off and we are watching and I lost my ass a little bit on the
on the, the, the Texans lost.
The Broncos went.
I thought, you know, Texas would win that game.
And boy, did I feel like I was fucking right again.
If thick neck Davis, Davis Mills wasn't in the game for them, I think they actually
find a way to get in the end zone.
So I'm already kind of like a little pissed off.
And I'm like, yeah, at least the bears, the bear's bet was just smooth sailing.
and somebody from the other side of the room is like,
yo, the Bengals have the ball and they are down six points,
which if you have Bears minus two and a half,
doesn't matter if they kick a field goal and win the game.
The only chance was Colson Loveland.
So thank you so much, Colson Loveland.
Menongai is a beast, dude.
And yeah, you're playing the Bengals,
but the offensive line, the surge all game long.
And again, one more time,
giving up a kick return on the road,
like what are the chances of winning that game,
giving up an opening kickoff return for a touchdown?
the Bears finding a way like great script their scripts are
scripts are scary as shit I mean you never know what you're going to get with the
ben Johnson script I mean he's out there trying to prove something man
they are throwing double passes and the whole thing so
big win for the bears uh certainly ugly as fuck and I tweeted earlier that like I hate
the bears and then I had a bunch of Bears fans on my ass like you know you you're gonna cry
about it and I'm like no actually I'm very happy
your team just i'm never going to bet them again because that was insane the way that game went
um so the 1 pms uh you know i mentioned detroit in minnesota um i thought the vikings man like
there was so much in that game uh positive if you're a vikings fan and stuff you can kind of
hang on to in this matchup i don't think you know it doesn't feel like an aberration that you
close a little bit of a gap between you and detroit we talked about detroit this year and
and they can win the North.
They're a contending football team.
They have a lot of guys down in the secondary,
but I thought Tampa Bay didn't take advantage of some of those matchups in the secondary.
You know, guys playing tight man coverage.
Baker just missed a lot.
You know, fast forward to this game.
McCarthy wasn't great, but he hit a lot of outs,
and boy, was he a gamer.
You know, he extended some plays.
He was tough.
And they found a way to win.
I think the biggest, the biggest story of the game for me, though, is the job that Brian Flores, his defense did against the Detroit Lions.
I mean, they were fantastic.
I watched the game without the numbers.
I just peaked at the numbers a second ago, 2.8 yards per carry for the Lions.
That's crazy.
That's what they hang their hat on.
And when you talk about, like, trying to work a revamped Interior 3, it didn't stop there.
I thought the Interior 3 did a poor job picking up blitzes, and that was obviously, you know,
through a lot of the game, it felt like because there were 30 pressures in this game.
I mean, Jared Goff was pressured 30 times in this football game.
There were times where I thought, damn, is it just like, is Flores bringing eight guys every play?
No, he was actually blitzing a little bit more sparingly early in the game.
Sim pressures mixed in, which obviously can look like a blitz and confuse a quarterback,
but also a lot of A-gap blitzes, some cross-dog kind of blitzes where you end up with,
with, you know, people in the middle attacking those agaps.
And Jemir, Jimir Gibbs seven pressures he gave up today.
I don't know. This is a typo, but I just read that on NFL.com.
And boy, did it look like it.
They attacked the agap.
They attacked Glasgow.
And, you know, again, it starts with the run game, shutting down the run,
timely blitzes, early down blitzes, putting Detroit behind the sticks.
Detroit lived in third and long.
And they didn't convert a lot either.
So should Detroit be concerned?
like sure i think detroit should be a little bit concerned like are they a bad football team hell no they're a
fucking really good football team um but i do think minnesota gains some ground on them schematically
you know morton's done a good job there and everything i think he stabilized right at the ship and everything
but they have not converted or at least at the point when david montgomery fumbled that football
when he got hawked by cashman in that game they were about to convert their first third and ten plus on
the season so something is a little bit different in detroit
You know, and part of it is the protection.
You know, the success that they've enjoyed, they enjoyed it so much of it on the heels of such a great group.
Everybody's in their prime.
You know, Decker's getting up there in age a little bit.
I think he left the game at one point today.
But, you know, like your mahogany left on a cart.
Like, yeah, I have concerns if I'm Detroit.
Like, there's some injuries.
The injury bug is kind of hitting where we can't afford it if I'm Detroit.
So big for JJ McCarthy, two road divisional wins in three of his first starts, just gutsy stuff and getting that monkey off their back.
It just felt like Detroit kind of owned them.
So you know what's funny about that game is?
And I said this earlier.
Minnesota is what now, 500?
4 and 4 and 400.
And people are going to, you know, myself included, going to talk about that game like up in.
down tomorrow because of who they beat, right?
But there's a team with an above 500 record who also beat a really good NFC North team today.
The team that actually was in first place when I woke up this morning in the NFC North,
and that's the Green Bay Packers.
And the Carolina Panthers, man, with Bryce Young, just a gutsy win.
You remember a couple years ago, I talked about this on the show.
It wasn't the offensive output that they had in that game a couple years ago
to go against the Joe Barry outfit.
it but you know bryce finds a way to beat the packers um and he played pretty well a couple years ago
uh in that ball game something about uh playing the packers man the panthers have uh have played up in
those in those spots and i just just a big road win and more than anything it's like
and i want to go back and watch the game because i just have one eye on it i can't watch them all
but like oh my god dude packers can you act like a blue chip team consistently that's my concern
about the packers i think i still think they're going to win the next
north. I still think they're the best team in the north when they play like it. But if they play
like the way they're playing, and I made this point about the Eagles and their consistency earlier
this year, although a lot of people were breathing through their mouths when I made the point.
To win a Super Bowl, you have to win four games in a row. And it's just, you know, like the consistency
needed to do that. You can't take a half off. You can't have a down day. And of course, when I
said that this year, you know, earlier the Eagles had won four games in a row.
People like, what the fuck are you talking about?
Must be the CTE.
I got a lot of that.
But the point remains that to win a Super Bowl, you have to be a consistent team.
And two of the best teams in the NFC, the Packers, and to a degree, the Eagles as well,
to me, just not consistent enough.
I can explain Detroit's issues.
I can, you know, because of injuries and because of certain deficiencies that I picked up
personnel-wise before the season started.
with the Packers, sometimes I can't explain it.
And with the Eagles, sometimes I can't explain it.
Eagles fans are like, what the fuck?
We didn't even play today.
I'm just saying.
So the other one was a big AFC matchup in the 1 PM Colts, Steelers.
Listen, we said this.
Steelers have been living off turnovers.
You have a month, basically, where they don't turn the ball over at all.
And today they'd come up with six of them.
It's just unbelievable.
I thought the pass rushers did a great job on early downs of getting a jump,
reading pass.
you know, Indy came out throwing on first down.
When the game script got out of control, they continue to throw in early downs.
And those guys kind of turned early downs into third downs.
You saw High Smith late in the game taking the ball off Daniel Jones.
Saw T.J. Watt on the first down, taking the ball off Daniel Jones.
In a game where early on they're down and you see when Indy gets up two scores on the team,
it really is like a game script deal where, and that's what we said on the road.
They want to come out.
If they win the toss, they're going to elect to receive and try to go down
and score and whatnot.
Because when they play from ahead, they were really tough to deal with.
Pittsburgh did a great job, but just not letting them get out that far ahead,
even though they tried their best, like down on the goal line,
throwing a fucking slant to Washington.
Although, as the game went on, boy, does Aaron Rogers like Washington in the passing game.
I mean, don't get me wrong.
He is a big ass.
Somebody said earlier, he should just change his number to like 70-some and be a tackle
because he played 20 years in the league.
I mean, he might be like the next Mercedes-Lewis.
I don't think he's that kind of blocker, ironically.
But the point is he's, and they've been going more big tackle stuff.
Now, at a point in this game, you're looking up and they don't have Sayamalu,
so 74 has to play in at guard.
But they've been putting 74 in the field right next to 80 and running a lot of outside zone.
Well, they also found a way to find him in the passing game today.
And I think Aaron Rogers, who struggled to find D.K. Metcalf with regularity, with consistency,
you see a lot of these little details with him continuing to show up,
whether it's Aaron or whether it's DK.
The player seems to be around whatever inefficiency is happening in the passing game.
And the point I'm making is he needs some guys to step up.
You know, Washington is one of those guys.
He might get some mileage out of him.
I thought that was big.
The defense and the turnovers, man.
There was a point where Daniel Jones threw a pick
and everybody in the room with me, there was like five people.
We were all like, there he is.
There he is.
Which sucks if you're Daniel Jones,
because it just goes to show how much he has to do to get people to respect who he currently is.
And that journey continues for him.
I said it all year long.
There was going to be a point.
And it's not a hot take.
It's not like some Nostradamus shit.
But at some point,
the Colts are going to get made to look really human.
And I'm not going to jump ship.
because I think their formula has worked for them, you know, gaming and game out.
But I thought Pittsburgh's defense headlined by guys like the fucking the fastbacker from,
yeah, Wilson from NC State.
That kid is such a stud.
He played a hell of a game.
You know, the guys in the front were ferocious today.
It just felt like a total 180 for that defense.
And I look forward to seeing what kind of effect Dugger had.
in the game.
Didn't they just, they just picked him up on what, like Wednesday?
So, so, you know, like, there was a lot of things that, you know,
the Steelers can say, hey, we're sustainably better if we play like this.
I think it comes down to the fact defense played out of their minds,
creating turnovers.
We said if that happened, they'd win this football game and they found a way.
I mean, six of them, golly, if you're a Colts fan,
you got to feel pretty good about turning the ball over six times
and being in that thing damn there until the end of it.
You know, this football season, Bet MGM wants to give you another chance at first touchdown
scores with BetMGM's second chance promotion.
You'll get your stake back in cash if your first touchdown scores second instead.
Bet on any pro football player to score the first touchdown of the game.
If you're right, you win, which is my favorite part of the ad read.
If you're right, you win.
If your player scores second, you get your stake back in cash.
be sure to take advantage of this offer and if you haven't signed up for betmgm yet use bonus code greenlight
and you will get up to a $1,500 first bet offer on your first wager with betmgm betm make it legendary
by the way texans i said this earlier i gave out the under but i told you at the end of the show
i also want to bet the texans i ended up doing that um davis mills did the best he could
Nico Collins, Herkulean effort, you know, three plays at a time.
They found a way to kick five fucking field goals and I think miss one as well.
But just a really frustrating day at the office.
If you're D'Amico Rines and I'm watching him at the end of the game, he is getting this
defense at home, especially to play the best defense in the league.
And I believe they are.
You know, I know that defense on the other side in Denver is very good.
And yes, they were down Pat Sertan.
But as evidenced by the fact that those two teams were tied with 58 minutes, you know,
into the ball game there.
Like that shouldn't happen when you've got Davis Mills playing
and you got this offense playing the way they've played through much of the season.
And it comes down to red zone.
It comes down to efficiency down low.
A team that's not built up front, doesn't have a big powerful back,
doesn't have a dynamic back, you know,
just not a team that scares you in the red zone.
And it's unfortunate because this defense,
they are absolutely wasting.
If they'd have had this game,
they could go on down the line and continue to try to make.
a push here but it's going to be very hard Denver however is the hottest team in football but every
week they seem lukewarm that's crazy seriously they're the the hottest team in football they won like
seven straight but every week it's this this is up and down it's just hey we'll wait we'll wait
make play and i understand who they were they were playing today and that's a hell of a defense
and we talk about that up and down but you know bow necks missed some throws he was laid on a lot of
the throws that that you know some of the shots that that were there for
them. I think they need to play more consistently before I buy them as like a team that can go
win the whole thing. I'm sorry. They've got a fantastic record. And yes, this is me being pissed off.
I lost a bet. But at the same time, and I told Reid, I'm like, man, I'm on the Broncos ass now because
they should not be in that ball game that way if CJ Straug gets hurt early in that game. But they found a way
to win and credit to them. But I would like to see them, I would like to see them look a little bit more
consistent kind of the same issue that we talked about when we talked about you know the packers or
the eagles i want to see more consistency out of the broncos and here we go the main event because i got to
get done with this thing so i can put this bet in um i'm thinking it's going to be sea hawks tonight guys
like it feels to me like picking the commanders is the very sharp thing to do but it feels like
at the same time the seahawks are going to hit like five big explosive chunk plays
and probably rain terror up front on the defensive line.
I'm going to just bet the Seahawks.
They're in the throwbacks?
We're betting the fucking Seahawks.
What are we doing?
What are we doing, guys?
Take the Seahawks.
Buy it to two.
Buy to two.
I almost burnt me today.
It wouldn't have mattered, actually.
So anyways, the biggest game of the day,
the one we were all waiting for.
We had no idea there'd be so many fireworks prior, but Kansas City and Buffalo.
Just say this straight off the top.
I thought Josh Allen was great in this game.
Obviously, it's not a think thing.
It's not subjective.
He was great.
The ball barely hit the ground in the first half.
If not for Spencer Hawes, like maybe you take a little bit off that ball.
Spencer Hawes.
Jackson Hawes.
I'm getting my haws mixed up.
You take a little bit off that ball.
Maybe the ball only hits the ground once in the first half.
I mean, he was fantastic.
There's a reason I flirted with the sentiment that he's the best quarterback on the planet.
I mean, Mahomes is more accomplished.
Mahomes the greatest of our generation.
But, you know, Josh Allen's a, he's a one-man band.
Seriously, look out there.
They've got a tremendous running game.
They have a really good offensive line.
They worked the tight ends, which was central in this game.
We talked about that with Justin Reed, you know, leaving town, going to New Orleans.
Like, how are they going to cover the tight ends?
with Josh Palmer down, you know, when Kansas City is in man coverage,
like you really have to scheme those guys up.
And late in the down,
Josh has to manipulate defenses by climbing pockets
and pulling coverage up to make plays.
And he was great.
He really was.
They get a little bit, like at the end of the game there,
Buffalo likes to play with their food,
threw the ball twice.
You know, after what, a 14-yard James Cook run,
I kind of agree with the guys on the broadcast
that, like, time was the important thing there.
and sure you want to pick up a first down,
but, you know,
I think they could have continued on their merry way
if they had just continued running the ball
and never giving it back.
But if they didn't give it back,
you don't get that spectacular defensive sequence
for the bills. This team that coming in the game,
we said, hey, if the bills win this game,
they're going to have to outscore Kansas City
unless, and this was the big caveat,
the guys outside could dominate on the edge in pass,
in pass rush.
And I thought Joey Bose,
it was great tonight. Joey Bosa is a mercenary, dude. You bring him in for big games like this.
You bring him in to slay the dragon. I know it's just the regular season, but this was a huge win
because Mahomes looked unsettled. Now, Kansas City has a tackle issue. You know, I'm not going to do
the whole thing every time I mention Josh Simmons to say, hey, we don't know what it is. And it's his,
of course, I don't need to know what it is. But whatever it is, it doesn't look good.
when he's not in the football game for them.
And then when they lose another tackle late in the game and they got Juanier Morris in the game,
it's an issue.
And there was a big hold that last possession, one of those last possessions on a second and short,
I think it was.
But, you know, the offensive line issues are showing up.
They look unsettled.
And Mahomes is having to make a lot of plays in dirty pockets.
When you saw them, when they looked really scary, when they had Josh Simmons on the field,
and they started to get guys back, the pockets were really good.
clean, you know, these pockets are a little messy. And, uh, and certainly there are,
our quarterbacks and teams that are working around offensive issues, offensive line issues in
the NFL. Tough shit, right? Um, but I thought, I thought the bill's defense was the whole story.
I thought the bill's defense was the whole story. The way these guys played, you know, I would say
this, McDermott gets little guys to play big. Well, Bishop's not that small, but he played really
big tonight. Cole Bishop, uh, you know, kind of out of nowhere, if you were to ask a
Bill's family. What's the biggest problem with our defense? You say, hey, safety's up there.
But he made some remarkable plays on the ball tonight. You know, number one, took that ball off
of Travis Kelsey in the end zone and kind of made him pay the tax. But he made two plays on third
and fourth down consecutively in the first half that were remarkable at the sticks, made a top
down play on Hollywood Brown, you know, just making plays all night long. And Maxwell Harrison,
showing up. I love two reps in particular for him. I think the one rep, which was just an incompletion,
was him, I like this better in the pick, was him running stride for stride with Worthy. I mean,
worthy, I mean, he's a four-two guy. And Harrison, who showed up a little bit over the last two games,
kind of getting worked back in, he can swing the whole defense. Now, I don't know if Cole Bishop's
going to play that way every week. But if you have Benford outside, him outside,
and they didn't have Terran Johnson night.
I feel a lot better about this defense than I did three days ago.
Then I did when I woke up this morning.
I thought Bosa was great.
I thought Rousseau was great.
Epanessa tattooed my homes on the sideline.
Holy shit.
I mean, after that hit, if it's true that they're trying to protect this guy,
Epinessa, they'd have taken him in the county jail for that hit.
That was fucking awesome.
That was incredible.
And Hoyt, man, I've always been a fan of Hoyt's.
Rams, the lineman, got to watch him play.
You know, people always speak so highly of him.
He showed up last week in the Carolina game, took care of business there,
some really nice power rushes with Ed Oliver being down this week.
You're like, all right, well, at least we got Michael Hoyt up,
who's going to make some big plays for us.
And he did.
Snap one off on Trey Smith.
I ended up with a sack, I think, in that situation.
but, you know, they're moving them up and down the line.
You can see he's kind of a Swiss Army night for them.
He's a classic tweener.
But for him to go down in that game with the non-contact injury,
I just feel so terrible for the dude.
It seemed like he was going to be a part of a really fun ride
and be a big reason why, right?
Like, if they go on a run, like that guy can help.
And that's crushing for that to happen to him.
So thinking about Michael Hoyt, man, you know, like good football player.
And that's such a bummer, if that is his.
is Achilles, which just sounds like it is.
Didn't want to go back in the locker room,
wanted to sit down on the field with the guys,
didn't want the cart, you know,
hobbled off the field, man.
I just, this defense played
inspired tonight. Can they play like that more often?
Can they play that like that in the playoffs?
Which is the thing that they don't do
when they play this team. And you talk about
game plans. I think Andy Reid's got some
work to do, you know,
which is kind of a scary
challenge to lay
at the feet of Andy Reed. But like, they had 20
minutes at the half and Kansas City comes out and goes three and out like pretty impressed with
what Sean McDermott did tonight. I'm pretty impressed with the way those guys played.
They played like their their hair was on fire for real. That was that was awesome. And you get the
head to head in the case that Kansas City makes a run and you got to play in in the postseason
home field advantage or whatnot. And that's also big because New England survived by the skin
of their teeth today.
You know, you got to keep pace with them now.
So it's like double trouble for the bills now where, you know,
you got to keep one eye on their division foe and try to beat the chiefs in the playoffs.
So the good news for them is, as we know, the Ravens are not what they were.
I do think they still win that division, even after what I saw with Pittsburgh today.
I'm not going to jump out of the gym on that.
But I think in the AFC, like truly the teams that you have to beat are the Colts.
The Chiefs and the bills in no particular order.
I know I'm forgetting probably a team or two, but let me see, am I?
Not really.
It's not as deep as the NFC.
And I think if the bills play the Colts, I think the bills work that defense.
So that's the matchup right there that's killed you for years.
And, you know, I feel better after that regular season win than I did after the other ones.
because in part,
I just feel like last year
they get to that game
and the Eelam thing,
the fucking Benford injury was just so killer.
They were down to,
if they can stay healthier,
that's a big if,
they can hang with that team.
Now, I don't know what the next Andy Reid game plan looks like,
but I thought it was just,
Chiefs have an offensive tackle issue.
That's the thing they got to fix.
And defensively, they're going to have a Josh Allen problem.
I think no matter when they play them,
and the middle of the field
that's
what he owns
and that's what they own today
and they own it with tight ends
and I just a really impressive
impressive game but how about like
fucking my home's on fourth and
fourth and what
17?
Please bro
yeah I put the pads in that group too
but I do want to see the pads win some games
like against some big team
or some great team sorry I'm putting a bet in
so if I'd
but I would like
like to see the pet go sea hawks jeez um i would like to see the pats play the big dogs and i know like
you're saying well they already beat the bills it's a division game and i think could they beat the bills
again absolutely um but but you know i want to see what they look like matching up against some other
elites um but drake may is playing some incredible football i'm not taking anything away i said if
the season ended this week it would be drag may for mvp nobody's doing more with less than drake may
except maybe
except maybe
no nobody's doing more with less
nobody's doing more with less
uh
all right
well that that's it for me
we'll talk about the rest of the games tomorrow
I just enjoy talking to you guys
this evening
I am on the Seahawks
and
yeah that's about it
take care
