Starting point is 00:00:00 What's the best ball you ever threw in an NFL game? Jake Coimero against the Denver Broncos to clinch the division in 2020. The COVID year, they played a little cover for. They pushed the safety, but he didn't move in time. I kind of looked him to the right. And Jake Coomero was just running right down the seam. And I threw that ball as hard as I can. And it just stayed on a rope and just as Jake looked around, the ball kind of caught him.
Starting point is 00:00:19 But I threw that ball the hardest I think I've ever thrown a football in my life. And it was just right on his chest. I bet they could clock that thing. Yeah. I'm sure they've done it before. But like, yeah, that was my most. I think memorable throw just because like again just plays that I'd worked on and throws that I'd worked on and like coming out of college right everyone's like oh he's got the strong arm but how often
Starting point is 00:00:38 do you need to throw it as hard as you can say right there motherfucker exactly so welcome to the green light podcast thanks for jumping on today as we wrap up our road trip from philly and buffalo today you'll hear from a couple buffalo bills Josh Allen and mac hollins Chris interviewed both when we were up at bills camp Josh tells Chris about his mindset as the bills quarterback, how he's improved his game both on and off the field, the best throw of his career, the best wings in Buffalo, and the great battles that he's had with Kansas City. Mac jumps on, and Max's a different cat. Chris and Mack were teammates in Philly. They reminisce about the Eagles Super Bowl, talk about the Bill's wide receiver room, Mack's habit of not wearing shoes or
Starting point is 00:01:25 eating with utensils, preferring to eat with his hands. Chris brings him some ice cream that he has to eat, and Max shows us how it's done. We have a blast with those two fellas, but we We start off with Chris, Nate, and Bo in studio. They're going to recap some of the best performances that they saw from rookies, from pre-season's week one games. Chris Bo and Nate break down some quarterback tape, some of the best rushes from the edge rushers, and some clips from the guys in the middle,
Starting point is 00:01:50 the nose tackles who took up some space this weekend. Another great episode, and you can smell it. Football's coming back. Rock on. We will catch you. force a trade to any podcast where would you force a trade oh wow that's his son redick is forcing a trade as we speak joe douglas's like no not going to happen has son we just signed you and that's why money you went to japan you came back you're forcing a trade
Starting point is 00:02:45 fuck that but where would you guys force a trade i would have got to act like he's thinking about it bro nate would force himself on a raw room in a second wow that's racist i think that's a little racist but i would force a trade at all because just like forced a train to raw room too just like the jets just like the jets Chris is not signing off on a trade I don't think I don't think I am but depends of what they're sending back not for oh oh oh I would think not for me at least no not for you I'd lose my mind I lose my mind you know bow you haven't answered the question which makes me think you know exactly where Chris I'm a locker room guy all right you know i'm not forcing my way out of any situation i'm going down with the ship baby well we'll find out these guys are crazy trade me to the rewatchables please
Starting point is 00:03:36 the rewatchables the rewatchables that would be that would be a good bit for you we'll see if they can send back you know what what we get from that you think van lathan maybe van lay oh oh no bad better pack my back i would like to trade something for ryan rissillo i would like to i would like to i would like to propose a trade to bill simmons for Ryan Rosillo. But wait, before we move on, like, what do you do? So you put your nuts out there. You say, fuck it, I want to trade.
Starting point is 00:04:07 And when they come back and they say, no, we're not trading you? It's just like football. What's your next train of thought? Next train of thought is go catch the fucking football. Do the open. That's what it used to be with us. Hey, I'll tell you, everybody in this room for Ryan Rissila. I'm just joking, guys.
Starting point is 00:04:24 I like this team the way it is. we're not looking at any pieces fuck Ryan Rissillo damn no not really I love Ryan and I just I want to compliment Ryan as I do sometimes his travel pods are unbelievable playful I know
Starting point is 00:04:40 the guy is just he's one of the best orators of our time yeah that would probably take a one couple ones we don't have that kind of thing all right but Hassan Redick is requesting a trade listen I don't think this happened
Starting point is 00:04:56 I just don't. I don't think it happens. I think they've waited them out this long. How many times does a guy end up somewhere and in the same offseason get trained? You got to call his bluff. Yeah. Got to call his bluff.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Got to call his bluff. I mean, those fines are racking up too, Chris. What do you think is fine? What's the fine total at? It's over a million. It's got it. Yeah, but the way you look at it, it's money you haven't made yet. And it's money you want to make in your deal.
Starting point is 00:05:24 So I guess you're kind of thinking it's not real money. But if you end up giving in, then that's deducted from. Right, exactly. So it's like a double whammy because if you want out of there and if you end up are going to play, you're still going to get fine. It's not like they're going to be like, oh, you're back. Like, we're good. We were just joking.
Starting point is 00:05:46 We're not going to find you. No, you're going to get fine and you're going to be playing anyway. What's really interesting to me is the holdout mechanics. Like, what are you doing while they're practicing? what are you doing during the day? Like, do you feel super weird sitting around the house? I know Iyuk, for instance, I know this through the Grapevine. The guy works out from like nine to midnight every night.
Starting point is 00:06:07 So, you know, some, I was talking to a Niners fan. They were like, well, the guy's not, he's not going to be ready to play even if he comes back. I think he would be ready to play. I think these guys nowadays, like, there's places you can go when you hold out. But it's a little different. No, it's a little different. He probably have fresh legs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:24 I mean, he'll be off a little bit. But the thing I always worry about is if you sign with the team that you're disgruntled about and you're up in a year, say your receiver or something like you can come back and they can spread the targets out a little bit more. They can drive your price down a little bit more. There's ways that they can drive your price down. Well, you better do everything else off the bowl. You better be trying to pancake guys on blocks and do all that other shit if they are going to do that.
Starting point is 00:06:46 No question. Guys, let's talk about the guys that played this weekend, the ones that matter, the rookies. Because preseason is a chance for vets to tune up. you know, get acclimated to their new surroundings if they change teams, that sort of thing. The quarterback's going to be really interesting, you know, week three and four guys that changed teams. That's when you start to see the stuff that matters, right, when the starters are playing a couple quarters. All the schemes, very vanilla, something to keep in mind. And then also, as you get into, and we mentioned this, if you look at like, say, J.J. McCarthy's tape,
Starting point is 00:07:18 week one of practice and you see one pick, you're like, well, it's one play. It's at that point, July and he's practicing against B-Flow's defense. And then you'll hear about this guy's playing better than this guy. Well, is Joe Milton going against the ones? Is he going against the twos? Is Drake May? And we're going to get to those guys when they play a little bit more. I mean, Joe Milton played a little bit. I didn't get a chance to really sink into his tape. But for instance, Drake May barely threw the ball. Jaden Daniels threw a dime outside the numbers, but didn't throw the ball a lot. I think the, I think the chatter on quarterback starts and ends with Caleb Williams. this week. Okay. I feel like people in Chicago can rightfully look at that tape. And this is a guy here who
Starting point is 00:08:01 said keep field. So listen, if I'm wrong on this thing, no problem. This isn't really, I'm not Mel Kiper. But I am risk adverse. And I think it's a risk to spend on a high pick at quarterback, especially when you could do something like, you know, trade the pick and fortify the roster even more. But when you look at this guy run around and just throw the ball and- See that no-looker? can see it like i get it i see what y'all see i see what they see and um you're jumping on the bandwagon no for me jumping on the bandwagon would be like betting their over win total thinking they're going to get which is what 10 wins or something like that i think it's eight and a half okay i think it's eight and a half and i think when you look at a rookie quarterback the one thing i look at with
Starting point is 00:08:44 caleb williams i like them move in the pocket i like him throwing on the run that'll set up some of the run game coming out of preseason um it keeps the the looks clean for him him. It keeps the reeds half field at times. He's out there dealing hope. The throw he made on the sideline, the throw he made on the comeback. These are pro throws. You knew he could make it. You wanted to see him make them at the right times. And I think the biggest thing for him is he can do a lot of fun shit. It's just going to be no and when not to do the fun shit and to do the shit like slide or extend the play or, you know, or take a sack or take the, you know, hit the checkdown. that's the stuff that's going to decide who he is year one.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Because he can make the top end throws. You can see it. No, for sure. And he seems like he's a gamer, which, like, I'm excited to see. And he seems like, just from the outside looking in, he seems like a guy that he's handling all the pressure very well, and he's staying prepared. And he always looks focused for football when it's time for football. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:46 And you know what? These guys nowadays are going to be packaged different. Yeah. You know, they're going to, some are going to paint their nails. Some are going to have TikTok dances. Some of them are going to fucking dress weird. Some guy's going to have a purse walking into the meeting and hard knocks. And he was like, that guy's not going to play quarterback for me.
Starting point is 00:10:02 But what if this guy ends up being pretty good? I don't get a fuck, dude. It's all about what you do day in, day out to prepare to garner the respect to the vets. And so far, it seems like he's got the respect to the veterans. I think watching him throw that football the other day is reason for excitement. And the thing that I got most excited about and the thing that might make me redo my, and we haven't even gotten there yet where we predict one through four, division, division, that sort of thing.
Starting point is 00:10:29 I said I'd probably take the under on the Bears win total. I could be swayed. If he comes out here a couple more weeks and looks like he can throw the ball around the yard and stays out of the pitfalls, the traps, then I think they could win nine, ten games. I don't think they're going to be a 13 win team. If that's where people think, you know, they're going to go year one or year or two, I think you're getting a little greedy, but I think they got a shot to compete right like they did last year, differently, but the same thing. Compete for the postseason, tough division.
Starting point is 00:10:59 I'm excited to show. But the nuances show his comfort. They really do. And even watching him slide, he knew how to slide. He's a lot of guys don't know how to fucking slide. Like Josh Allen? Josh Allen doesn't know how to slide. And you'll hear from him later in the podcast.
Starting point is 00:11:17 But again, Drake May, Jaden Daniels, really small sample size. Bo Nix, a little bit bigger sample size. I think Bo Nix, if he knows how to operate the offense, yeah, he texted me. So I'm giving all these guys a $500 bet on the year. We're going to take a win total. You guys all take a win total. And I love, I love Reed's Broncos win total, especially seeing how Bo Nix is going to take over this offense.
Starting point is 00:11:49 I think. Well, if him taking over the offense might consist of a lot of quick throws, RPO's like play action, just distribute the ball to the, to the guys, man,
Starting point is 00:12:00 you know, tight ends, that sort of thing. That's what Sean Payton's all about. Exactly. And so if he can play within the confines of the offense, they'll be productive. The ball he threw into the end zone that the receiver dropped.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Yeah, Josh Reynolds was the right side. It was a perfect time. It was a nice throw. So a good day at the office for Bo Nix. I don't have any tape on him that I want to show our YouTube viewers. But I think it was a promising first start. When we talk about uniforms, did you like your Broncos unis?
Starting point is 00:12:33 I did all the way up until the helmet. The helmet was two days. It looked almost like a really, it looked like if you just glanced at it, it could be a Vikings uniform. Really? Like they're not bad. I think it's like a U-TEP looking uniform. Yeah, very U-TEP.
Starting point is 00:12:48 It's a very college-looking uniform. I'm not sure I'm sold on it yet. I'm not yet. That dark helmet with the light, with the white jersey and the orange on the shoulder pads, I think was a little tight. Like, if they went like a bright helmet, that would look sick.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Like, can you imagine that light? Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. That'd be fresh. And you got to go to college kit. Yeah. And look a little like you're trying to, you know, nab some recruits. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:13:11 It's the mixing of the two looks. And then I think the lion's wordmark is totally fucked up. I think that font is hideous, and it's amazing. You go through this, you go through this, you know, this revamp of your uniforms. You probably, it's years in the making, and that's the best you got. Come on, everything else is going great in Detroit. Okay. We got to keep talking about quarterbacks here because there's two guys I got tape on that I want to show you.
Starting point is 00:13:37 And we can kind of talk through this tape for the audio listeners. But for people on YouTube, check this out. Now, if you're listening on audio, maybe three. grow on. Here's what we like. Put the YouTube on, sync it with the audio, and let's get both downloads, guys. You know what I'm saying? You know, PMT used to say subscribe, like unsubscribe, subscribe, like just fucking play both for us. It's a lot simpler than what they're talking about. I want to start with Michael Penix. I'm really excited about this guy. And I said that when they when they drafted him, people are killing the move, the whole thing. If this guy can play football,
Starting point is 00:14:13 he gives you an easy out if things don't work out with Kirk. If Kirk's Achilles blows up, if the other Achilles pops, he's damn near 40 years old. And we're coming up on a time where we're going to say, hey, is it one more year for Kirk, that sort of thing? You got this guy waiting in the wings. I know you could spend your one on somebody else. But in his first start against the dolphins, he looked very good, in my opinion. The first play is a great throw. for people who watch the game, you know, he ends up seeing man coverage on the right side,
Starting point is 00:14:48 early in the game, taking a shot at this wide receiver down here. And let the tape run here. This is a dime. It ends up incomplete and it looks kind of fucked up. But his receiver's not really bailing him out here. He's trying to stack this guy. If he just stays outside leverage, that's a perfect ball. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:08 So that's a nice ball for Michael Pennix off the bat. I liked how decisive he was early in the game. The next play here, I thought this was a brilliant throw from a guy. He's a left-handed quarterback, right? So they're going to have action that dictates that his eyes go away from where he's throwing the ball. Okay, so play action right, flips back around. And as a lefty to hit that right sideline, 14, 15 yards down the field, that's a big
Starting point is 00:15:38 boy throw. Again, his receivers didn't really bail him out. If you get the toe tap right there, that's a hell of a throw. It's a hell of a throw as it stands right here. But I mean, for a lefty, you don't ask a lot of guys to make that throw period. The things that Atlanta asked of him to do in this game impress me. It spoke to their confidence in him. The next play, I thought this was great. Great Reed versus edge pressure. Just take the shot. I mean, we saw this a couple times in this game. He's not afraid to throw the ball outside the numbers with touch. And the defender's stack there. This is a good, easy throw, but he made it.
Starting point is 00:16:14 And the last one's my favorite throw of the game. Okay, so I don't know if we have a timestamp on this for people that want to go back. And look at quarter one, 75, 75 to go. 735, second and 15. Second and 15. This is a fucking beautiful throw. The little pump, run it back here, Reed. So he's in gun.
Starting point is 00:16:34 It's two by two. back out releasing out to the left. And what he's, what he's doing here is he sees zone and he's going to manipulate eyes. I mean, he's pumping to the right side of the field. He's moving that, that, that Mike linebacker. He's occupying the eyes of both safeties. And then he's turning back and delivered it over the middle of the field. And I thought this was really nice. I just thought Michael Pennick's process was very good throughout the game. And he's staying in the pocket. He looks comfortable in there. He doesn't look. It doesn't look like a rookie right there.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Like usually you see guys kind of happy feet. His feet are not happy. Exactly. He's got sad feet. Yeah. Which is good. It's good. You want to be, you want to look like your weights under you.
Starting point is 00:17:19 You want to look like you're not, you know, chopping. There's no rush here to speak. There's a little push up the middle, but his feet are planted. Looks comfortable. I liked what we saw from Pennix. So you had Michael Pennix. And this guy might have liked even more. That's not the same.
Starting point is 00:17:35 like these guys more than Caleb. I think we saw a bigger sample size from these guys. I just went through pulling plays, and I ended up pulling more plays from McCarthy than I did from Pennix. I thought McCarthy looked really good. And you know what I liked about McCarthy? You know, we're going to run this first play here. Everybody saw the pick.
Starting point is 00:17:53 If you're a Vikings fan, you saw the pick the first play. Not the first play, but early in the game on third and aides, the first play in my cut up. He throws a pick. He gets man coverage. The league guys, it's trips left. you're going to get three overs, you get a couple deep overs, that sort of thing. And then you're going to get this tight end on the right leaking out.
Starting point is 00:18:12 And that'd be a nice read late and down because it's wide open, but the pocket's muddy. The Raiders brought a lot of pressure and manned up. And I think sometimes you say in preseason, fuck it, we'll man this guy up and see what he's got. We'll keep it vanilla. We'll bring pressure. We're going to confuse this motherfucker. But I thought he did a nice job. And here, his pick, the one thing I would say is this receiver could flatten
Starting point is 00:18:35 this route out. You know, sometimes it's not all in the quarterback, but regardless, an amazing play by Jack Jones. And to talk about the Raiders defense, there's really a lot of, there's a lot of room for excitement if you're a Raiders fan about this defense. But he throws a pick. He throws a pick early, and I think a lot of rookies, when they throw a pick or they fuck up early in preseason, they go in the dumpster. And I think a big test is like, what are you going to do the very next play? And his next throw, second and six in the second quarter with 10 minutes to go is a beauty it's a beauty they're under center emotion but they go play pass and this is for a young quarterback i mean he he got a face full of a blitzer he brought two up the man run this back way to stay in but i thought this
Starting point is 00:19:24 was awesome by him i i thought McCarthy one of the strengths i thought coming out was was his toughness and his pocket mobility. Right here he sees that he's got somebody beat and man out of the stack. He takes the big hit. He hits the open throw with a face full of a linebacker.
Starting point is 00:19:46 And this is a nice throw. And my favorite part about the throw is that he responds. So next play, we've got another third and five here. This is in the second quarter without 440 to go. Raiders again look like
Starting point is 00:20:02 they're bringing pressure, and they do. This is the thing that excites me about J.J. McCarthy. For people listening on audio, he scrambles and picks up a first down. Okay, in the pocket, it's super muddy. He pumps. There's people on the ground. He scrambles for eight. He tucks it and scrambles for eight. In this league, there are a million third mediums.
Starting point is 00:20:25 If you've got a guy who has the composure and the athleticism to pick these up, and you're an on-scheduled team. This is going to help a lot. So not for nothing, the guy can move around a little bit. He moves around to throw. He moves around to pick up the first down. Run it to the next play here. You've got a first and 10.
Starting point is 00:20:45 This is Tampa 2, and he sees it right away. Finds the honey hole. I mean, this is good. I mean, he's beaten man. He's beaten zone. We'll go to the next play. You've got a third and nine. And the thing I love about this throw is that's a, this is a pro throw.
Starting point is 00:21:01 He's basically running a little crosser type deal. And again, Raiders bring in heat. But if you watch the velocity on this ball and the arm angle, this is how, these are things you ask quarterbacks to do, right? This is a money down. It's a money pocket. It's not a perfect window to throw this football, but the velocity with which it comes off of his hand.
Starting point is 00:21:27 And I love this about him at Michigan, his ability to throw the ball over the middle of field. Like if you said, hey, I'm not sure this guy can throw the ball outside of numbers, but he can really, he can really stand in there and throw the ball over the middle field. I'll take that. The next play, we got a first in 10. It's the JJ McCarthy show. They're in cover three.
Starting point is 00:21:51 This is a dime. This is a dime. He sees cover three. The corner at the top. This is, of course, the touchdown is not playing this well. safety's late getting over touchdown he can throw that ball outside the numbers this is a layup but a lot of guys miss this layup okay the very next one fourth and one another money down the play before this he damn near fumbled the football i think there was a review and they picked it up but as soon as he sees man coverage
Starting point is 00:22:17 out of the backfields he sees the back to the flat he knows he's got man coverage just hit the slant it's a simple thing but it's a money down it's something you're excited to see and then finally and somebody's going to call us out for glazing j jay mccarthy you didn't show any kela boy who showed a bunch of but we know caleb booms is really talented this mccarthy guy they talked about him like maybe even have the physical tools to play in the league this is a really good process from him and it's a gimmy but play pass will be something that if he can whip his head around and make the easy read they're going to get a lot of mileage out of this um and how many times did you see, you know, in the last couple years, a wide receiver running free down the field and someone
Starting point is 00:22:59 missing the later. Or just not even seeing that, that open receiver. Outside of Kirk Cousins, who's done very well with play action. This guy's quicker. This guy's more mobile. I don't know about arm strength. We'll see. But if he can run PAP up there with KOC, PAP and KOC go hand in hand. J.J. And Justin Jefferson wasn't even on the field. Evidently, he was up in the booth for a little bit. I hope he did a good job up there. I thought McCarthy looked really good. So when you think about it, you've got a fun project in Darnel and you got a fun project in this kid. It's like hedging your bets and saying, hey, something's going to work out. I'm confident they'll find a guy that they can rely on to play quarterback at a higher level than anybody they had last year outside of Kirk Cousins.
Starting point is 00:23:45 And if you look at that Vikings team, and I know they didn't get better everywhere, but they made some additions. Year three in KOC system, they could surprise some people. You know, I know it's week one of preseason. Okay.
Starting point is 00:24:01 So those are the QBs. I'm sure I forgot somebody. I'm sorry we didn't break down. Bo Nix. Trey Lance is a fucking asshole. Well, I mean, we didn't show you any Bo Nix tape, but it was a positive deal. Glowing review.
Starting point is 00:24:15 is what i heard jim nate's jumping out of the gym he's putting my money on the he's putting my money on the broncos to win like 12 games or something this is it plus money it's like over over over over i like that me too i like that it's good out especially if you're money we sat on the back portion the other night and looked at all these lines for all all wind i see some good ones yeah good ones this guy's like buffalo bills to lose every road game plus 10 000 no think ravens to to lose every road game plus a hundred thousand you know light my money on fire all right so anyways we've got the o linemen and and there's only one o lineman that i really wanted to pull tape up on not to say he's the best one if i had to ask who impressed me the most like
Starting point is 00:25:05 i think honestly olu fashanu looked really good in past bro he looked boring good like he wasn't challenged there's nobody really there that was rushing over room that that's the thing about this preseason stuff who are these guys playing but this guy olu fashanu from penn state i can tell you i was up there at penn state michigan last year and watched him warm up stood next one i'm like this is a fucking pro tackle i didn't even know who he was but no surprise that he ended up being that first rounder by i was talking about the jets found a guy here i think and i say that because he's got great length he's got good feet you can tell his set at this point, week one, preseason one, is pretty good.
Starting point is 00:25:49 And I think he's got the length to, to at the top of the rush, open that door at the right time and invite you around the corner, but keep you at arm's length to where he can just ride you by. Like, he's that type of guy. And so the only thing I think you'd get him in trouble is when we see guys to get him turn and go through that outside shoulder. I haven't really seen somebody test them on an inside move too much. But as far as blocking a rusher on the edge, he's got all the tools.
Starting point is 00:26:18 So the Jets, Jets fans, you could be excited about what you saw week one. Fulaga from New Orleans, obviously his play strength is very good. Like it's very clear when you watch him play, his play strength is going to be his strength. And the only thing I would say about him is don't get jerked. You know, don't get top heavy. We watched Evan Neal. And I remember I caught shit because I was like, this guy's going to have problems. and he's supposed to be a strong guy right like he's a big strong bama guy but his play strength
Starting point is 00:26:50 gets negated because of his balance i don't think fuaga has a balance problem and and if he can just stay off of his toes when he absorbs blockers he'll be okay uh mims the mims guy in cincinnati he looks bigger than fucking orlando brown who is a giant you want to you want to do something turn on the end zone copy of the Bengals preseason game and look at the size of this guy's ass and his arms and every half it sound like Mike Mayock but that's the way he started looking to these guys this motherfucker's he stands out okay and I got to tell you watching him in space he doesn't look slow-footed I mean he's got really good functional length he's not a mauler in the run game yet not in week one but maybe he's just trying to play under control
Starting point is 00:27:43 We'll see. He did ding his peck and he's going to be out for a couple weeks. So not unlike the Steelers, they saw their first tackle taken this year, get dinged, and now we're going to be without Fetano as well, who's up in Pittsburgh. And I do want to say that, listen, maybe I didn't do the Evan Neal thing very well the first time. But I was right. I was just too honest. And I don't want to do a thing where I say, hey, this guy's not going to make it. because fuck for me it took a year and a half okay i i wouldn't go but i don't know what i'd think
Starting point is 00:28:18 if i went back and looked at my preseason tape but this fatano guy has got some work to do i think the steelers have some work to do with him if there's one guy out of this tackle crop and i have not watched joe all yet so i apologize for people in l.a i don't know if he got some snaps yesterday so i'll check him out and obviously we're excited about joe all but out of the whole group i think Fetano just week one. He showed me he's got some work to do. He's kind of his feet are in the air when he makes contact. He's not, his feet in his hands are not tied together.
Starting point is 00:28:50 He kind of strikes high. And if you watch him, you'll know what I'm talking about. He looks like he's a better jumpsetter right now than a guy's sitting back and waiting. If he sits back in waits, his punch is not tied in with his hands. And right now he's going to get bullied a lot. He's going to miss inside. The jumpset is going to get you in trouble. Well, I think honestly.
Starting point is 00:29:09 the jump sets where he looked the most comfortable. You know, because if he can get his hands on you right now, he plays from a better base. But if he's sitting back waiting right now, he's just not tying his set together. And he's out for a couple weeks. So that really hurts you. You know, this is a guy who could use the reps,
Starting point is 00:29:27 and now he's going to be missing reps for a couple weeks. Guyton in Dallas liked him coming out, really like him after week one of preseason. He reminds me Alex Barron, who people might say oh well Alex Barron didn't have a great career I'm not saying he plays exactly like Alex Barron but the height and the
Starting point is 00:29:47 punch strength and and just kind of like guidance is a tall ass guy he's built like tall and lean for a tackle but his play strength is there you can tell his punch is strong his grip is strong he's physical and if you watch him in pass pro
Starting point is 00:30:05 he does not play tall so I really like Guyton I thought he did a great job here's the guy I have tape on J.C. Latham okay let's roll this tape Bo this first fucking play I watch this dude it's fucking hilarious
Starting point is 00:30:21 it is so funny hit the end zone though to queue up the end zone go ahead no whenever you get the scouting report on Wednesday which is the first down second down run game day you have you know these O-Lyme who are what we call first level first, right? That means that they are going to fucking hang on the double teams and take care of that
Starting point is 00:30:43 before they climb up to the backers. So watch 55 here who is fucking J.C. Latham. I met him out at the draft in Detroit and he is. That's right. Fucking massive, dude. So look at him come down on this double team. I think they're just run a very basic duo here. He just clears it out so fucking far and comes, roll it slow, cowboy.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Watch him come out of his stance. first of all, there's like two inches of splits between him and the right guard. Yeah, you know, you know what's coming. Yeah, you know exactly what's coming. He hits the three techniques hip so hard. And, you know, the Niners run the gap penetrating four down schemes. Like these three texts are just rolling off the ball. There's no space here.
Starting point is 00:31:22 He stays on his hip for five yards, he wipes him completely like off the fucking line of scrimmage laterally. I've never seen. Look at his pad level. It's nice. Yeah. You know, he's got really good pad level. the guy's fucking, he's built.
Starting point is 00:31:38 Like, not to be a hater. He should have, he should have, he should have came off and got the line. He probably should have came off, but I, I think it's an attitude. That's an attitude play as a rookie, though. I respect that, man. I think that's one of his first plays. I think he's like, hey, I'm just going to cave this motherfucker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:51 But I'll say this, and we'll get to his, his past pro, because you look at a huge guy like this. You're thinking, oh, Bama, big guy, like, could play guard. Is he like Kevin Neal? Is he, is he big with no anchor? Is he out of control? and honestly in the little bit I saw him in pass pro, I do think he'll have some issues. But this guy's a little bit of a dancing bear.
Starting point is 00:32:14 He's got some feet. I mean, it's funny. Chris, he clears out the three techniques so aggressive laterally that it just makes it such an easy look for the linebacker, you know? Yeah, no question. You're that three technique. You get off the ground here. You fucking adjust your helmet and you look at your linebacker.
Starting point is 00:32:31 You say like, hey, you better fucking make that tackle man because this dude did not come off me at all. Roll the next play, Cowboy. We've got Pass Pro. I mean, this is Red Zone, so you're not getting Russia's best stuff all the time. But this is a pretty good down by him. You know, the guy slips a little bit,
Starting point is 00:32:49 but he's got good feet. I can tell he's got good enough feet to set in the NFL. The next play here, he gets into a little bit of trouble in Pass Pro. And this is Leonard Floyd, I think. So you're seeing a pro-rusher, your very first day. at the office who he just did a good job with in the red zone. But you can see if you turn a big guy, and he takes a little gatherstap because he's worried about the three technique as well.
Starting point is 00:33:16 But you can see if you turn a guy, and this is late in the first quarter, even a big guy like this can get bold. And I think that's going to be the biggest thing with a lot of these rookies, especially these bigger body guys, they're not used to getting run over. Everybody in the NFL is big and strong. So you really have to be aware of, are your feet in the air when you turn? what's the distance between you and the rusher? And right here he just ends up in a bit of a fucked up set.
Starting point is 00:33:39 But you can tell that this guy's got good enough feet. We'll see if this anchor is going to be a problem. The last play here, and the thing that shouldn't go on mention is that he's lined up next to Skoronski, who looked like a road grader in his first year in Tennessee. So these two guys paired together on these double teams are going to be a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:34:01 This is another, you know, cave it down, shorten the edge kind of situation for J.C. Latham. And I think he's going to be pretty good at this. The next step's going to be coming off and getting backers. I love this big summer bitch. He's fucking, he wears 55 and he's got no gloves. He's a big one. First round pick. It's not like there were no other numbers.
Starting point is 00:34:22 He just was like, let me get 55. And do you need some gloves? No, I don't. All right. Bo, you looked at future Hall of Famer Graham Barton. You know, that's a guy who I was very curious to watch coming out of Duke. You kind of played all across the offensive line for them. He's, you know, by all accounts, a very good athlete. But big position of need for the bucks, you know, kind of understood that he was going to fill that center role for them with Jensen retiring.
Starting point is 00:34:49 So I wanted to see how he looked in week one. And honestly, man, he looked really good. He looked, he looked very comfortable, like very solid and almost like boring good, like what you mentioned earlier. So he played 18 snaps against. the Bengals, I think the biggest thing for me is, like, it's got a really nice base with really good feet. You know how it is when you're a center in the run game. Like, the Bucks had a bad run game last year.
Starting point is 00:35:12 I think they were maybe bottom of the NFL with their run game. Do you think center was a lot of the issue? No, I think just kind of the way they weren't as committed to running the ball last year. I mean, they tried to get it going at times. It just wasn't a good. Yeah, they got going late. Not a major part of their offense. I want to talk about Graham Barton.
Starting point is 00:35:31 Like I said, like he did some things. that I kind of made me feel like he knows what the fuck he's doing like he's comfortable he did a really good job picking up loopers late on twist games you know what I mean like staying square passing it off that's one thing that you see with like rookie alignment a lot of times is like they're almost surprised by these pastures games even though they've been seeing them you know for for all those years in college too but one thing he does really good job of on combo blocks staying really square and driving his feet and then he did a really good job of timing it up so unlike uh late and what we just saw.
Starting point is 00:36:03 Like, he did a really good job on those, like those inside out scoops where, you know, your combo in the guard is, you know, combing up to the back around like a two eye or something like that. Really good job staying square, running his feet and then getting the next level. Like, he looks good, man. He's got good feet, really good base. Seems comfortable. And like, he just looks solid, man.
Starting point is 00:36:25 He looked good. I feel like if there's a center that comes in the league and you're like, he's good right away. You're like, he's got a good shot to be one of the better centers for my. Like because center, there's some really good ones and then there's some that I don't know. I just have this feeling about him coming out that if you're going to spend a one on a center or close to it, you probably know he's really good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:46 And it's easy to kind of get lost in the shuffle as a center because, let's be honest, you're not, you know, you're not sold up on dudes in pass rush and one-on-one pass rush all that much. You know, you're kind of a help guy, the run game in the past pro game. you know it's almost like a more more of a mental position these days calling out but if you if you're good though if you're solid it's it's great yeah so i i don't see him as a super physical interior offensive lineman i think he's more of uh use his you know he's six five use his length and athleticism to position block um but everything i've seen you know in these 18 snaps his first preseason game like let's take it with a grain of salt but he looks fucking comfortable man six five centers yeah
Starting point is 00:37:31 Yeah. Like wait, what is what what's it coming to? That's crazy. That's that's fucking that's like guard size, you know, but yeah as well. He's very fluid, man. He's got good feet, good base. So like them coming out. Okay. Let's let's do you from Graham. Let's do let's do some D line, bro. Let's let's get into what we know. Get into our comfort zone. We don't got to talk about fucking whole shots. Yeah, exactly. Holes shots. I want to talk about any whole shots. shots. Okay. Let's talk about a whole shots, bro.
Starting point is 00:38:03 My favorite edge rusher coming out, Laatu Latu. I want to say his name a lot, so I think we're good. It's pretty evident to me right away that he knows what he's doing, okay? Twitchy, dude. Which was kind of like, which was kind of the read coming out. It was like, this guy just knows how to use his hands, okay? And this first play that ends up picked, I think, I think is it Kenny Moore pick, is the play that tells me a lot.
Starting point is 00:38:30 Okay, he's coming out and he's obviously got a plan. He's going to go chop club. Okay, so the end zone footage here, Law 2 is at right end. He gets an inside hand punch, which is not an ideal thing to chop club into, but just the ability for him to course correct and fight with his hands.
Starting point is 00:38:50 Yeah, and the bend at the top, Chris, is what really, like you can't really coach that, you know? No. Something that you kind of have or you don't, in my opinion. You can work it as much as you want, and you can make it a huge emphasis, but like that's something that really sets guys apart, man. He's going to have it at the top of the rush,
Starting point is 00:39:06 he's going to have it at the top of the rush, which just tells me it's going to be about using his power and his get off, which looks to be pretty good, but I think the thing that really is going to separate him is his hands. This is a good active rush. The second play here, I like it because,
Starting point is 00:39:24 and for people listening to audio, he ended up in some situations where he had to play a tight, in the run game and we always said like you got to demolish a tight end and the nine if he's not reaching you if he reaches you should put him three yards back in the back field but if he's just hinging like this guy is and fuck this guy is yeah i mean i might be able to do this to this guy right now but it's really good hand placement it's it's good the way he thinks about he's in a nine okay you get a hinge block from the tight end well i'm gonna stay square for a second and then when i feel that that gap, right?
Starting point is 00:40:01 When you feel that air, then you just pile the guy into the fucking thing. I mean, I think the thing is, too, Chris, it's nice to see a rookie come out in his first game and just be fucking physical, you know, just have that kind of mentality. And that's, that's what I kind of take away from this is like, we say this shit in the D-Lyining room all the time. You should never get blocked by Ted N. And this is probably exactly what my old coach from UW, Charlie Partridge said to, uh, lay out to Lato here, man.
Starting point is 00:40:26 Like, you got to do this every fucking time you have a tight end on you. It's good. Yep. I mean, this is really good. The third play is a rush again. And this is what we're talking about. It's just his ability at the top of the rush. I thought this was a really good process. He's going to go chop club. He gets the handwork he wants. Now, the ball's out, and he's at like 10, 11 yards. But you can tell that he, a lot of guys are at 10, 11 yards, and they're flat. And they're running right there where they run to the opposite tackle. He end up. behind the left tackle. What he ends up doing is chop club sinking the rip and trying to round this corner. You know, if he's got a better middle of the pocket, this could be a strip sack. Yeah. And it's a weird pocket here, Chris, because it's a power play action pass.
Starting point is 00:41:15 You know what I mean? And so I think the thing you like to see here, too, though, is like, listen, you only got eight snaps here in this game, you know, maybe four rushes or something like that. You got into a rhythm quick. Yeah. But, like, you expect to see a lot of these moves eat a lot later in the game. games as you set up your rushes. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:30 Nice to see a guy come out early, first game, and kind of have this kind of juice and have this show the flashes of using his hands in a rush where you're like, okay, like, once this guy gets cooking late in games, even later in the season, like, he's really going to put offensive linemen in a bind. And the best thing, too, is that you're going to have Zaire Franklin and the starters running up the middle giving pressure so that quarterbacks probably not, they're not going to be able to step up as easy as this play. he is. Yep, and Stewart and, and, and, and, and, um, and Bochner and Grover and Buckner. So, yeah, like,
Starting point is 00:42:06 here's the one thing I'll say about this. I would like to see him because again, he's getting an inside, he's getting an inside hand and trying to chop club that inside hand, which if you got a great get off, you can still do it as you can see. Uh, but I think when he plays better players, he's got to develop that inside move. The minute 72 opens that door and, and, and, and post that. that inside hand, spin back, take the inside move, turn it into power, get under his armpit. He'll do those things. I know he will. He's just working his shit right now.
Starting point is 00:42:39 And then the last play is another play on the tie down, which we don't even really need to see. He showed in this game that he's going to be competitive on the edge with his hands. Putting tight ends on notice early. I think he could play with a little lower pad level, though. Yeah. It kind of reminds me of me when I was younger, peeking up a little too much. you know but he's got good hands strong base i think he's going to be a good football player it's early uh Dallas Turner we both looked at Dallas Turner um but what was your takeaway and then I'll
Starting point is 00:43:13 tell you mind and we'll watch a couple plays i'm going to keep this pretty brief I saw it a nice sack um I thought he played well man like the we talked about this a couple weeks ago on the podcast like B-flow's defense is difficult they ask a lot of guys you do a lot of different things especially as an outside linebacker, man, you're dropping into coverage, you're rushing, you know, you're setting the edge in the run game. But there's a lot of variability to that defense. That's, like, kind of hard to step into as a rookie, right? Especially if it's completely foreign defense. But he has that three, four experience from Bama. I think the thing I liked is, like, he just kind of got it going. Like, I think he played like 20 or 30 snaps.
Starting point is 00:43:49 I think it was like 22. I got to look it up. But, yeah, he got a full day's work. Yeah, that's a full day, man. And that's what you want as a rookie is like, you use these preseason games was an opportunity to like get comfortable out there understand what a game day atmosphere is like and then see different opponents you know i think initially when i was watching i was like he looks uncomfortable man like he's changing around his stance a lot pre-snap uh you know you would start with his inside foot up and then he'd swap it around like depending on what was going on i think what i what i like to see it out of him is just it seemed like he got more comfortable as a game progressed i thought he played his best football later in this preseason game and that's kind of
Starting point is 00:44:25 what i what i'm getting at like it that's what you want to of the preseason. Use it as an opportunity to get comfortable. Like it's a it's a fucking NFL football game. You can't take it lightly, but the same time you need to remember that it is a fucking preseason game. And just no question. And he got the full day's work. You know, I do think when I look at him, he is not at risk of being a guy that you're like, oh, we need a lot more out of him. I think he plays hard and he's got good physical traits that are going to allow him to make plays. I look at the first play that hit on the quarter. back there in eye formation in the red zone.
Starting point is 00:45:00 And he's just saying, fuck it. And I might say if I was a D-line coach, maybe not the best rush, right? Because we are in the red. We're kind of bordering. We're in the low red. And he's just kind of running by the tackle. Now he ends up with a hit on the quarterback at 9, 10 yards. So this is something he's going to be able to do, which is just run, right?
Starting point is 00:45:23 Yeah. I don't see him running the hoop yet in this game. Yeah. But I can see a guy who can move his feet and he's got length and he's got long strides, right? We knew that about him. His pad level looks solid. The next play is the one. It's the sack, right?
Starting point is 00:45:39 And a lot of people are like, yeah, it's awesome. Great sack. And again, we're in the low red now. And I don't know what he's being told to do, but generally we go to power, take an inside move. And if you win, you better fucking win. You know what's good here is the quarterback bails to the 15 yard line and he's got a sack at 12 yards. Which to me is, it is a good shoulder dip in the whole thing, but you could just as easily get yelled at here for taking the high line to the quarterback in the red zone.
Starting point is 00:46:06 If the tackles aren't good and the quarterback's better, he could step up. He could scramble if Mattelis isn't there. If he can make Mattelis miss, which I don't think he's going to do. Bottom line, it's the sack. He's playing hard. He's burning the edge. He fights off a hold. This is a good play.
Starting point is 00:46:23 But again, if you look at the next play, what I'm going to show you is, a guy who's got a tremendous gift, and I think he's got to learn to use it. It's early. I want to see if he does it as time goes on. Watch him stick this left arm into 77's collar. Watch the effect of the timing of that long arm. Okay, he's going to get people to bail.
Starting point is 00:46:48 He's going to get people to turn because he's quick. I don't think he's a natural hoop runner. I think Latu probably runs the hoop better, but this guy can flat run. and he's got length. And so what I say is you should make people nervous with your speed, but you should make people pay with a long arm. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:06 No, that's that, if he can learn to stick that thing in there and pop back inside or take this into a bowl, he's going to do a lot more of affecting the passer than he is running by the passer. And that's the one thing I think they're going to be coaching him on. I don't know how B-Flow runs it, but when I was in New England, they used to just be like, do not get past the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:47:25 Do not get past the quarterback. I was on the set with Bill Belichick the other day for inside the NFL and he made a joke as a quarterback and I'm like you motherfucker I'm like you remember that and then I got a text from Jim Schwartz the other morning he said because we're supposed to have Zadarius on the show soon he's take care of Zadarius when he comes on I go he's one of my favorite players coach it's going to be great and he's like you know he was just as shocked as you when he found out he's allowed to run by the quarterback so it just depends it depends on the fucking defense you're in um i would think they'll get him going to power more down the line because he's got the
Starting point is 00:48:01 gift of the length and the the the suddenness yeah so good day for those two guys the best day for me and maybe you agree bow comes out of seattle byron murphy yeah this guy's like a pounded man he's one of my favorite guys coming off he's fucking twitchy watch his um he's so good laterally he's so quick laterally and he does such a good job of generating power and like lateral kind of like quickness out of a wide base too it's that's a really tough thing dude yeah the first thing i thought looking at him and if you watch this game early in the first they got the chargers backed up on the one yard line he's in a two i as beau alluded to he's got to get lateral he's got to step out to the b gap which is a tough one because you don't want to change your stance
Starting point is 00:48:49 you want it to look the same and you got to get a lot of power on that that inside foot and push out there and he does, he gets skinny. I think what's so impressive about him is, and you know this, both of you from playing inside, a lot of guys just get washed here. Yeah, but the reason why he doesn't is he's using his rip the right
Starting point is 00:49:09 way and he's kind of propelling himself forward back into that hole by like locking on to that lineman who's overpursued and whatever he's trying to do, blocking him. But the fact that he used that rip and kind of ripped it, he could get it a little bit higher
Starting point is 00:49:25 Yeah. But even the fact that he's using it the way he is, it kind of pulls him into attack. I just look at the strength. You know, you get pinballed around in there. And, you know, some guys who don't have as good at play strength in traffic, that's a certain kind of play strength. Like the balance to not get knocked off. This is really good.
Starting point is 00:49:42 And it showed up again. Like they damn near hit this guy for a safety. If it's not for the other guys making the play, he probably makes the play. You go to the second play here. This is a first and 10 in the second quarter. We're at 1056 for anybody following a lot. long again he's in a two eye so he's basically head up inside shade on this front side guard the backs opposite so if you get run game it's coming to you uh and he gets the nudge from the center
Starting point is 00:50:09 he's able to keep his hat in the crack he's just not moved easily you can tell he's not going to get moved around easily his lateral he's not huge either chris he's not he's not a massive guy like he went to texas his other boy who i watched to vondres sweat with the titans he's huge Murphy is like 310. He's like 6.1. It's 2, 310. But he plays strong and square, man. He plays 3.30.
Starting point is 00:50:32 You said it strong and square, dude. And that's what when we talk about play strength, there's explosive guys. There's guys who can run you over. But if you hit them on their hip, they fall over. I was one of those guys, right? Like where I could run you over. But then if you caught me on my hip, I'm going out. I'm going out of the club.
Starting point is 00:50:50 The key is for a guy with this body type. And what he's doing is usually a. leverage and you can see when he's using his leverage like you can't push guys out of there like you see these old linemen like they're getting like they're way bigger than them and it's something that it seems like two guys should be able to push him out of there but if you're using the right leverage and the hand placement like he's doing those guys just kind of like you see them struggling to get him out of there and i'll say this is a side note right now joe all unofficially looks like a guy in his pads i mean he looks like he could play in the NFL his pads i'm just watching one base block
Starting point is 00:51:21 all right let's go down on the next play here we've got byron murphy on a second and nine uh we've got the charges on the 29 yard line again he's he's in a three technique and this is one of my favorite things about him nice when he comes back and puts his hands on the center whether it's in pass pro or in the run game he's jacking guys up i mean this is what bow's talking about this is staying square new line of scrimmage and popping off to make the play this is just fucking It shouldn't look this easy for him week one. No, and I mean, he ends up on the other side of the center here. Like, he should be in the front side aga.
Starting point is 00:51:58 Yeah. When the backs away from you, but he, he knocks the center back so far that it cuts off the running back. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. And he does a really good job of like using his eyes too to know when to get off that center and go make the play. It's a nice TFL. Really good. The next play, I believe, is more center assault, which I love to see.
Starting point is 00:52:18 You've got Byron here in a. in a two on the right side again opposite the back and uh he's going to end up fighting slide but here here's what i love about him his feet run the whole time in traffic you can see that center's feet are on um two's feet i forget the guy's name he played a full football game or two for east and stick so you've got the center's fucking cleats on his cleats that's how picks happen and one almost does here and then we'll finish with this play here second 11 uh a splash play from uh from our guy uh he is bumped over he's in a four eye they're overloading so if you look at this you've got a four eye you've got a two eye you've got an edge player
Starting point is 00:53:10 um great game it's just a little game here and he's wrapping and he's staying tight and he's great game back and oh just fucking things up in in it he's fucking things up in traffic like you can tell he's going to be really good in traffic missed this he misses the sack but these don't count buddy this guy's going to be a player yeah yeah this guy's going to be a player you're you're just see him play just see him move briefly and you're like yeah we're on to saw him here no question i will say this i watched the darius robinson guy the guy from azou who we all liked We're intrigued by. I think that would be more accurate.
Starting point is 00:53:50 He's so tall and he's long. But Arizona's got him playing a three technique. He looks super out of place. That was most of the D-Line. I looked for Chop Robinson. He didn't play. You know, I'm sure we left some guys out. Every Monday we'll go through some of these guys.
Starting point is 00:54:06 But, you know, I think it's really fun with all the talking we do. We make such a fucking big deal about the draft. And we make such a big deal about that process. And it owns the calendar for, better part of three months, four months. And then the first preseason games happen, and we don't see enough of these guys. Like, we're not talking. I should be turning on the TV and they should be doing this.
Starting point is 00:54:28 You know what I'm saying? Hey, fucking ESPN, you've got access to all these rookies tape. Throw it on and talk about how the rookies played because that's what's so interesting to me about preseason, especially week one. Because if a guy doesn't look great week one, he's got time. If a guy looks great week one, I feel. pretty good about him. Yeah. I'm not saying he's going to be a world beater, but some of these guys look ready to play right now. Let's talk about our trip. Buffalo was awesome, man. Like,
Starting point is 00:54:54 honestly, whenever I used to play there as a player, I don't know about you, Bo, but I used to stare at my window the night before the game and be like, man, it'd be fun to hang out here and just like get drunk with the people. And we really didn't do that part of it. We'll come back for that. We'll come back and tailgating the whole thing. But we were up there to interview Josh, interview Jim Kelly. Matt hooked us up with a really nice Airbnb in the, a trap it definitely was in the trap bro no issues
Starting point is 00:55:24 though we had the mini pool table thank goodness we did have a mini pool table oh yeah they went undefeated they went undefeated on a pool table we're about to buy a pool table for in here just yeah yeah champ yeah on us on a do you want to what do you like it it's like when a little league world series it's a smaller table the whole thing king or loser talk you are I promise it's all it's all good we're on one back so so anyways i was stone okay that's my
Starting point is 00:55:52 there you go and i wasn't and i was so sober okay so we went to the bills practice their walk through they were getting ready to play the baltimore ravens or no the bear bears came down the eagles played the ravens by the way we also went to the eagles practice the day before we'll backtrack there in a second but you're about to hear josh Allen and Mac Hollins, two of my favorite players in the bills. Okay. Josh sat down with us for 45 minutes. It was amazing.
Starting point is 00:56:25 It was one of those things where, you know, we got up there. We don't really know how long we're going to have with them. The bills have been so gracious with us. I think because beans come on a couple times and has liked us and Mitch and Dawson. And we never fucked these guys over because that's not what we do. We don't fuck players over. We just, we just try to keep it positive and fun. We're gentle.
Starting point is 00:56:45 And yeah, we're gentle. And so we sit down and I'm kind of wondering like how long we have. And there's that that dreaded question right before you turn it on where you're like, well, how long do we have? Like, because you don't want to ask too early because they might tell you, hey, 15 minutes or something. And everybody looks at Josh. And I'm like, oh, fuck, where does Josh have to be? Like, Josh is like, let's just go.
Starting point is 00:57:07 We'll see how long we go. And he was awesome the whole time. A lot of fun. You'll really enjoy the conversation, but also really insightful. And to me, for my money, he's the second best quarterback in the NFL. The other guy might be the best of all time before it's all said and done. So just goes to tell you what I think of the guy. It was really fun going to practice, got to run into Brandon Bean, got to run into
Starting point is 00:57:32 Mack Collins, Rasul Douglas, Corey Harky, who was a tight end in St. Louis, not well known, but a guy used to bang heads with all the time. I didn't know where he was. I didn't thought about him in years. partially because he gave me CTE. And I look over at him, or I look over at this guy and he's got a Bill's polo and glass. I'm like, he's a fucking coach now. So it's like it's fun to just run into people.
Starting point is 00:57:57 We, uh, we certainly enjoyed that. And, uh, and afterwards got a chance to interview Jim Kelly, which will be coming out at some point too. Jim had us to his favorite Italian restaurant, Ilio de Palos. Uh, we got back in this private room, sat, shot the shit with Jim for a while. Jim's the man. I've known Jim for a long time. And right outside that room, there's this poster of Chris Berman and the Terminator outfit.
Starting point is 00:58:24 It's the Bermanator. And it's signed by Chris Berman. It's just when you come to Buffalo. In the Garfather outfit one too. Oh, yeah. When you come to Buffalo, though, you see sign pictures on the wall in a place like that. Or you go to a place like Barbill where we went, which had famous wings, amazing wings, lemon pepper was awesome.
Starting point is 00:58:41 Beef on Weck was incredible if you actually had one before. fucking insane. Bo, you would have gone nuts. That place, like, you can tell just the who's who of football has been in this place. Like, you think about a place like Ilios or bar bill and you're like, how many Chris Berman's came through for a weekend?
Starting point is 00:58:58 How many, you know, how many Jim Kelly's had a night on the town here after a big game? Did Bruce Smith used to hang out here? You can tell in Buffalo, because it's got that old vibe. The places have been the places for a long time. And I think it's a really cool city. It reminded me a little of a smaller St. Louis. That's what Matt said because he had lived there when we pulled it in was like
Starting point is 00:59:18 industrial. You could tell at one point it was really popping downtown not so much anymore but such a college atmosphere, a smaller city. We can't wait to get back up there for a game. We had a blast. And like I said, before that we went to Philly to do the Eagles practice. Which I have some bad news for you, your RV, the left side actual, the driver's side axle, we need to fix that. Are you serious? Not actually. but that's where all the weight was. Oh, really? Yeah. Like sitting.
Starting point is 00:59:47 Yeah, because when he scared me. Oh, yeah. Well, first. When the old lady, when the old lady ran it to read. Well, we drove the gas. Yeah. Okay, so you were in the car for that? I was not in the car.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Was anybody in the car for that? It was just Reed in the car at that time. But we were right next to me. They saw. I'm going to witness. I was a witness. It was this old lady. Okay, good.
Starting point is 01:00:07 It was all her fault. I knew it was. All her fault. But when he said it, nobody else in the, room said anything so i was kind of wondering if he was alone and i was like well it is you know it's a big truck i don't care if you ran no it wasn't it wasn't it wasn't my incident to talk about yeah but somebody ran into him yeah someone ran it's fine even look to read pushed the rb up to to philly we did the the interview we popped the slide out and we had as you alluded to probably
Starting point is 01:00:36 350 320 that's 670 we're over over a thousand pounds with bow myself Kelsey, Selk, Milata, Lane, like all these guys. And we had great interviews and we got to go to practice and that was fucking awesome. When we come back there, Beau, it really does feel good. Yeah. I mean, they, dude, it's just fun seeing everyone, man. And then my favorite thing was just shooting the shit in the cafeteria with, you know, me, you, Connor Barwin, Kelsey, Selick. And then people would kind of roll through and then we'd catch up with all of our old, you know, friends.
Starting point is 01:01:13 Staffers. Staffers, exactly, from the Eagles organization and then kind of wander around, pretend like we're still part of the team. It was fun, man. It was good to go back. Didn't even tell you about this or not. When we went to Gino's, we posted about it and we kind of got stream, snipe, a guy definitely left work to come over there.
Starting point is 01:01:33 Oh, really? And he was like, oh, Chris isn't here? Oh, that's fucking up. No, but he was like, he came by. He came by and he was like, Dr. Fax, what's up, man? No, he came by and he was like, Dr. Fax, what's up? there he'll use fan love green light what was better at pat's or genos by by a mile but the the poppy the poppy store the poppy store that we found it had the best cheese steak see i always hear it's
Starting point is 01:01:56 not about those two they're just really well known and so i don't know but but one thing i noticed being there at their practice and at the bills practice is like and this isn't an indictment on the bills and it's not necessarily say the eagles are better but they are built like it's a big team like it's sometimes we go to eagles practice and goes to another game or another practice you look NFL rosters are not all the same the way they're constructed fucking there are some giants on that practice field in in in at the nova care i mean we were standing around chris doing that grip test with landin lane my lota mckeye beckton and i feel like me and you were the two smallest guys there by a wide by a mile dude
Starting point is 01:02:42 I'm like, fuck, same thing with the Dysmorphia was to the roof, dude. I've been in the wait room all week. I got some dysmorphia from standing next to Bryce Huff. That motherfucker's a tank, dude. Yeah. Bryce Huff's a tank. Fucking Jordan Davis huge.
Starting point is 01:02:56 Obviously, Jalen Carter looks really good. And the young D.Bs look good on the field. You know, the corner, Wignon Mitchell's been really good. You know, I know Cooper DeGine's out there in shorts right now, but a guy looks like a glitch in the racial matrix. So yeah, I'm really excited to see the Eagles play and the Bills play this year. They might be my two favorite teams, the Eagles and the Bills.
Starting point is 01:03:19 Now, we have some camp visits coming up that I think we're going to go to Minnesota. I'm pretty excited to go up there and see them. And there might be another team in the NFC North. We haven't really nailed that back. The Packers. Lake Minnetonka. We got to see Lake Minnetonka. Bo has the show's hills in the waters of Lake Minneton.
Starting point is 01:03:39 Yeah. But if we get Justin Jefferson, if I meet Justin Jefferson, I was hanging out with my, my, my boys. You're gonna learn the gritty? Well, so that's what I'm thinking. I'm thinking I get made fun of a lot at home because my kids have started to enjoy grittying. You know, they're on their ray gun.
Starting point is 01:03:55 He could give us a how-to, official how-to from the, from the, from the horses mouth. If he can teach me to gritty, then he is truly a great grittier. And also, I got my boys all hype because I told him I would film them grittying to show to Justin Jefferson. So I'm I've granted them each like a high production gritty video Hey You gotta get Meg involved too have me No we are she's the production helps
Starting point is 01:04:22 So basically I'm gonna be doing the shooting Or maybe she's doing the shooting And I'll do like I'm gonna have color powder Slow motion like special effects They don't have a they don't have a Justin Jeff in Jersey Do they? I can we need to make in time Can you find one in time
Starting point is 01:04:38 Yeah maybe A little spice on it? So pressure is a lot of it. on with dad. Like now they're starting to know who some of these people are. And they're like, can I come? And I'm like, that's great. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:48 That's great awareness. Yeah. It's a lot of fun. So anyways, it was a lot of fun visiting, the Eagles, the, the bills. Hey, if you're listening and you work for those two teams, thank you for having us. And certainly when we come on on the field or into a facility, I never feel like we're supposed to be there. I always feel really thankful that.
Starting point is 01:05:10 people have us back, including the Eagles. You know, like we, I for one was afraid to even walk in the building. Bo, however, Bo just walks right in the building, opening coaches, locker room doors, like looking for things, grabbing food. He doesn't give a fuck. Hell yeah. We want a Super Bowl up there, man. We can do what we want for today.
Starting point is 01:05:29 Except for getting to the nightclub. We can't get in the club some places in Philly. Okay, so here's Josh Allen and Mack Hollins, Bill's Faithful, enjoy. And if you're not a Bill's fan, you should stick around and check these guys out. Hey, y'all. Greenlight has official merch, like this hat right here, like the one on my head, this dad hat. Love this hat. I'm not even a dad hat guy, but this thing fits great. This, this hat right here fits great. We've got hoodies. We've got tea. By the way, this hoodie's like super comfy. I mean, it's like soft, plush. It's not the type of hoodie that's going to get stiff with one and one.
Starting point is 01:06:13 wash and the shirts too because like I'm a big comfort guy okay you got like this white shirt here you got the shirt with the logo the abbey road looking logo with dr. fax smoking uh presumably a blunt kyle carrying cowboy reed making driveling a basketball which i've never seen him actually do and me carrying a football uh and then you've got the the black shirt here too with the logo so uh stickers hit the link in the description in the video uh below the video, actually, and make sure to tag us on social media showing off your green light merch. It's quality, quality threads here, okay?
Starting point is 01:06:51 Wouldn't do it any other way. Josh, how we doing, man? Doing good. You said you love camp. I want to get to the bottom of this. Why do you love camp? So the way that we do it, we obviously, we go off to Rochester, St. John Fisher. We stay in the dorms.
Starting point is 01:07:08 I was talking to a couple of teammates yesterday, and one of them, he's been to a few different teams. He's like, you're the church. chillest quarterback I've ever been around. I'm like, thanks. He's like, yeah, I just, you know, you hang out with the guys, you do all this stuff. I'm like, if there's two things that I love in this world, it's football and hanging with the boys. I think camp is is just that, right? Like, there's not anything else. Every waking second that you have when you're not in your room, you're around your teammates, you're around your brothers. And I think that's, that's really fun
Starting point is 01:07:39 for me. And it's simple. Yeah. Like, yeah, you're working 14 hours a day, but you never stop to think about it. Yeah. You know what I mean? Yeah. It's just on to the next thing. And I'm a hotel guy. I like a nice hotel room or a dorm room, you know? Yeah. I like to get away. When you get kids one day, you'll come back and the beds made. Like, it's pretty sweet. And they do it, they do it right there. And, you know, you come home after or get into the dorm rooms after, you know, a long day. Guys are sitting down at the table playing cards. We're playing Catan. We're playing video games. Like Katan. Yeah. You're into that. Yeah. I'm the Lord. Lord of Catan. I know the guy. I know the guy yeah he lives in my hometown no way yeah yeah you're really into this game we're huge into it
Starting point is 01:08:20 so explain it to me like yeah i mean we've got elevator pitch yeah it's uh it's a it's a cross between like a risk yeah in a dungeon i wouldn't consider dungeons and dragons really not anything like that it's all strategic yeah it's it's it's all strategy you place settlements where you think the dice is going to roll on each uh hexagon that you're on relates to a number and those cards that you pick up when that number's rolled helps you build roads roads and other settlements and cities and development cards and it's the first person to 10 points so it's really just bragging rights it's a it's a way that we get to gang up on one of our other buddies too and just like there's there's you call it's called rolling a seven you get to move
Starting point is 01:09:05 the night and you put it on and you get to steal from them right so it's uh it's pretty dang fun so we get to go and and i'm i'm usually the one that's winning so I get ganged up a lot, but also Dawson Knox is just fun to get. He's going to hate that I'm saying this, but he did not make our final table. It was a big upset Tommy Doyle upset Dawson Knox to make our final table either now. No, that's just kind of how it's just, yeah, I mean, some days, some days. It just depends. Like, you know, if, if you get screwed, there's going to be an opportunity for you to do the screwing. So you always got to work. You always got to watch out for that. Yeah. Who's the Prince of Catan on this thing?
Starting point is 01:09:45 It was Dalton. Okay. Dalton Kincaid. Tell me something about, was it, was it, no, it was Dawson, who this is a rumor, and I believe it to be true, that to get you to slide, to slide, to slide. I know where you're going with this. Tell me where I'm going with this. It was a former quarterback that we had here.
Starting point is 01:10:04 The jockstrap? Yes. Yes. What happened? Incentive to slide was one of our former quarterbacks. I shall not name any names. but said he'd go out to practice with just a jockstrap on. And fair enough, I slid and he paid his debt.
Starting point is 01:10:22 It did what out there at the jockstrap. Yeah. All right. Dude, the first thing I said to you earlier was you look slim. You looked good. You looked good before, but how's your body? How do you feel? How long does it take for you coming out of a physical season to get to where you want to go
Starting point is 01:10:40 and then why a little bit lighter? Yeah, I think this offseason was, was, I approached it a little bit differently. Right. OTA's at a chef cooking all good things and she was great. Her name's Christine, which was awesome. Shout out Christine. Shout out Christine. And she cooked things without the use of like milk and butter and just try to make things super simple and clean. So I was eating better one. I took care of myself more than I ever have in our little month and a half break, did some in AD stuff, did some IVs, a bunch of vitamins and stuff like that. So that was also another plus to take care of my body. And again, just I traveled a lot. So I was in Jupiter, was in Cabo, was in
Starting point is 01:11:28 L.A., was in Tahoe, was in Nashville. And just, again, just trying to be strict on what I'm eating and what I'm putting in my body. And there's, I don't know if I should say this, but there's a secret trick that I don't know if it's true or not, but I'm just throwing in a few zins, you know? Oh, yeah, dude. All right. So what's the best flavor? What, what does your rotator? I'm not a big, big Zin guy. Like on the course, I'll throw one in. But Dalton Kincaid. Smooth is out here. Dahl and Kincaid had citrus the other day. You like citrus. Citrus is just pretty dang good. Citrus is like a special occasion's in for me. You know, I'm a smooth and a chill guy. Okay. Yeah, like the, the unflavored.
Starting point is 01:12:10 relatively unflavored yeah um so with the new chef is it important for you to stay out of places like uh what is it bar bill where did we go last night bar bar bar bill bar bill tavern did you guys like it oh yeah what did you guys get i got the beef on whack okay and i got a bunch of lemon pepper wings lemon peppers are good there yeah there's a sneaky one that's been moving up in my ranks it's the spicy barbecue okay i don't know if anybody tried it's we got the suicides last night the suicidals, yeah. Homeboy ate, he ate five of them thinking he was... Are you okay today? Oh, no, you were in the bathroom for a minute. Did you blow up the Bill's PR room?
Starting point is 01:12:55 Nah, it's probably all right. Get that man some baby wipes, man. That place is good, though, dude. Yeah. No, it's my favorite place by far. Is that the best place? I think so. There's a lot of people that'll maybe say different answers. Obviously, hear Buffalo. Just the wing culture that we have in general. Everybody takes pride in their wings here. You can go to a hole in the wall and find some really good wings. You can go to the best place in town and you'll find some good wings. So there's a lot of different ones. I haven't hit every single one. I know I need to get to Gabriel's Gate, 9-11 Tavern. Those are the two probably in Elmo's, right? I haven't done it. I had a Guinness last night there with your hologram.
Starting point is 01:13:38 of you in the foam. Did you know they have that at Barbell? Oh, I did not. No, yeah, dude. That's pretty cool. They were like, check this out right here. And I was like, are you kidding me? Like, and you stay on the phone, the whole drink. Like, you drink it down. It's still you with your hands in the air. It's sick. You need to go. Yeah, you need to order against us, though. So I haven't been to Barbell like in person in a while. I just kind of do this take out. Yeah. If we did like a big group with football guys, I'd probably go. But there's also, do you see all the mugs on the wall? Yeah, I did. So I've got a mug there. Yeah. And the last time I was there, they, like, brought it out.
Starting point is 01:14:10 And you could buy, like, people drinks and put it in their mug and stuff. Oh, that's pretty cool. That's awesome. Yeah, that's awesome. I'd turn it upside down to drink. I didn't want to drink. I don't. Come on.
Starting point is 01:14:20 No, you didn't. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. No, you didn't. But I have a mug there, and they gave it to me last time, you know, and I mean, that thing was overflown with drinks and there's some cash in there. And so it was, it's pretty cool. I think people know that that's my favorite spot.
Starting point is 01:14:38 they tend it regularly. Can you go out? You know, like can you go out and get a beer? Can you, I mean, because you love these people. I mean, how could you not? But when there's a thousand, it's probably hard to get out and about. Yeah, I mean, I think there's a little social anxiety that, you know, I deal with every once in a while. You got a little social anxiety? Yeah, just a little bit. It's just being around a lot of people. Like, again, I'm from the country. So I grew up in the middle of know where I'm just used to be in with a small group right. Were you excited about Buffalo when you got drafted? 100%. This is my spot that I wanted to be.
Starting point is 01:15:15 Like I had fear of being in a big city and dealing with traffic, you know, when I got traffic here instead of a five-minute commute. It's a six-minute commute. Right. But yeah, I get a little bit of it. You know, it's not the fact that I don't like talking to people. It's just like when you say yes to one, you got to say yes to all. And it's like sometimes it gets a little much and, you know, my heart gets pumping a little bit. So that's something I deal with. And fortunate enough, though, the people here in Buffalo are just, they're fantastic people.
Starting point is 01:15:46 And they want nothing but the best. And I understand where they're coming from. It feels like a college town to me. When I came up and played, I used to be like, man, this is just, I want to tailgate here. I want to be one of the fans. You know what I mean? And for you coming from Wyoming, it was funny. I played in Laramie.
Starting point is 01:16:05 I don't know if I've ever told you this, but we've only met once or twice, but we opened the season there. And that plays fucking, it's difficult. I just like dudes were running in place at the end of the game. What's the altitude there? Do you have? 7220. Okay, you know the big, the Jumbotron?
Starting point is 01:16:22 Yeah. So what does it say? It says the altitude up there? Extreme caution for altitude sickness, 7220. So are there flames on that thing? Like, does it shoot fire? No, because I might have been hallucinating, but for 10 years, I remembered it saying, Welcome to Hell.
Starting point is 01:16:38 Oh, no, you were hallucinating. I think it was like a, you know, like psychologically, you, you associate it. It's one of the coldest places on Earth, but it is hell. Like it, the first couple weeks, like the first couple weeks I was ever there working out. Like, I don't know if I finished a workout because I was like, eyes rolling in the back of my head, ready to pass out. Like, we had this thing called the circuit and it was Coach Duvall. and coach Strapp.
Starting point is 01:17:03 And it was just the most brutal workout you can think of. Yeah. And they did it to us on the first day. And there were maybe 14 or 15 guys out of the 100 guys that were there that actually finished. And you walked into that training room. And it was like a morgue. Like it was guys on tables, passed out, IVs like. It looked like a half time of our game.
Starting point is 01:17:22 Yeah. Bro, I was like, this is triage. Yeah. Like we ran out of IV bags. Yeah. You can't get enough oxygen up there. And it takes. So the science behind it.
Starting point is 01:17:30 So this is what we've been told. I'm not a scientist, so I can't. I thought you were. It takes about two weeks for your white blood cell count to actually get up to the levels that you need to be normal up there. So when teams, especially teams from sea level come up to Larameter play, it was like they are struggling. It's different. And I actually got asked this the other day. Is it like a real thing?
Starting point is 01:17:54 It is unbelievable. It's the realest thing. You walk up the stairs there and you're like out of breath. I had played 83 plays up there, bro. Like, Nate, who's sitting here is one of my young guys who was, I had him on his visit and everything. But he's like, I'll never forget. I've never seen you tap out and do this towards the sideline. Like three series of it?
Starting point is 01:18:13 Yeah. I was like. I was like. I didn't know what to do because it never came out. Yeah. Hey, bro. I just, I'll never forget it. And for 10 years, I've told people it said, welcome to hell on the billboard.
Starting point is 01:18:25 They just came out and said it. And they were like, I'm pretty sure it didn't say that. Maybe back in the day, the rules are a little bit different and society's a little different. Maybe it, maybe it was. You had to enjoy, though, going on a two-minute drill or going tempo and watching people melt. Unbelievable. And you look on the sideline and all the oxygen masks, everybody on their opposing benches just like puffing and puffing with that thing over their face. It was, it's real.
Starting point is 01:18:52 We got our ass kicked by a bunch of ranchers that day. Yeah. Guys are ranching now. Yeah. You know what I mean? For sure. There's some tough dudes there. They are very tough.
Starting point is 01:19:00 They're just Western dudes, man. And most of the walk-ons there are like Wyoming, born and raised guys that are just like, nothing bothers them. Yeah. Like the cold, they're fine. Put them in any drill, they're going to make it out. Yeah. They'll figure it out. I actually like the uniforms too.
Starting point is 01:19:18 I think the yellow and brown is cool. Yeah. You do too? It's different. You do too, though. Yes. Okay, cool. I like it too.
Starting point is 01:19:23 Yeah. All right, let's talk about this team, the Buffalo Bills. is it hard for you with all your ability sometimes to say, now I'm not going to throw it there, because when I play with you in Madden, which I do pretty much every night, I throw about three picks game because I feel like I can fit it anywhere. I'm Josh Allen.
Starting point is 01:19:41 When was in your career that you were like, okay, like I can throw it wherever I want, but maybe I'm going to take the check down? Probably halfway through my second year playing against New England. I threw three picks in the first half, I believe, yeah. And there's a video of Brian Dable just absolutely reaming me on the sideline. Oh, he's an all-time motherfucker guy. Yeah. He's your motherfucker guy.
Starting point is 01:20:04 And at that moment, like, something clicked. And I just like, it's like, all right, maybe I don't do that. That should chill out. Maybe I should just chill out and find other ways. And again, like, there's, I know everyone wants to talk about the turnovers and this and that or whatever. I play the game how I feel is the right way. Yeah. And I do whatever I can to help my team win football games.
Starting point is 01:20:24 And sometimes it is hard to look at yourself in the mirror. like maybe I just need to do less to help this team. Right. Like for me, I was wondering for, because you got a killer instinct, man. Like, that's what I love about you. And then you'll play a game like last year you played Dallas. And you guys are like, nope, we're just going to run the ball up their ass. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:43 Do you walk out of the tunnel and you're like, that was fun? Yes. Yeah. You threw the ball. Well, you know, what was fun is waking up on Monday and Tuesday and feeling really good. Mm-hmm. You know, and not like, help me up. Is that how you feel on one of the time?
Starting point is 01:20:57 and Tuesday? Some days, yeah. Tuesdays are worse. Tuesdays are always worse. You know, especially, you know, if you're dealing with pain and you take it toward all or something, I'm not advising that. Hey, I talked to coach or I saw Brandon Bean earlier and he was like, you look like you got a couple snaps and you know, I was like if five people get hurt, you can call me,
Starting point is 01:21:14 but you got to have tort all. Yeah. You got to have toward all. Yeah. People to understand like that, that thing works and you don't feel anything the day after, you know, but it's the Tuesday morning when you wake up, your body is hurt. delayed onset muscle soreness on steroids there but uh you had gus ferrott a guy knew that played back in the day remember in the quarterback yep banged his head into the wall it's my homie but he's he's just
Starting point is 01:21:39 different verb but he used to take him on wednesdays for wednesday practice okay things have changed yeah things have changed but here your play style is wide open man and you and i love i love when you do it because especially now it feels like you know when to do it right like you know when to just just tuck and run and run somebody over or hurdle somebody. It felt like last year there was a concerted effort to like save that a little bit. Was that a conversation? Like, let's get you healthy. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:09 And then when it's late in the year, we can break the glass. Yeah. Yeah, I think so. I mean, I think early on just making sure, you know, like doing what I'm asked to do. And then when when time comes to got to be that guy, I'll be that guy. Now, who knows? Every year, kind of its own version and different story, and I'm excited to see how this one unfolds. When you hurdle people. You like doing that, huh?
Starting point is 01:22:40 It's fun because no one expects it out of me, right? Like, the call, I used to be super slow. So, like, the fact that my junior college year, I started to get a little bit of speed. Really? What was the key to you starting to run a little bit of that? just actually lifted. You lifted. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:22:57 Like, throughout, like, Coach Salcedo, my baseball coach, um, his father was our third base coach, bigger gentlemen, but he called me the Tortuga,
Starting point is 01:23:09 which is tortoise and Spanish. Because I couldn't, I couldn't run around the bases very fast. Big Tortuga? That was the big tortuga. And, that's a cool ass thing. I went from football to basketball,
Starting point is 01:23:20 basketball, basketball, to baseball, baseball, to foot, like year round for 16, 17, 17 years of my life. So I actually never got in the weight room and actually lifted. And I tried, you know, I tried to put on weight. I was eating anything and everything that my parents would feed me. Me and my brother, we just, again, we did so much in our metabolisms were so high. Like, I,
Starting point is 01:23:41 I just couldn't put on weight and I couldn't put on muscle. I was 165 pounds soaking wet in my senior year. So when I got to junior college, I actually started lifting weights and I was living by myself. And, you know, where I'm from, we don't have a lot of fast food. Yeah. But when I went, went to junior college, Carl's Jr. was right there. Oh, yeah. That's a new thing. Wendy's and Carl's Jr. I was there damn near every day because I was like, I don't got time to cook for myself. Oh, yeah, dude. We had parties right down the road that was slap. That put some weight on me. Oh, yeah. Yeah. So when you get in the air, have you ever, are you often or have you ever had that oh shit moment? Like maybe I shouldn't have jumped. Yeah. Yeah. Do you remember one?
Starting point is 01:24:20 Two years ago against Patriots, I think it was one of the McCordie twins, Helmets, straight in between the legs. That one felt good. Right in the balls. That one felt good. There may be miced up for that, from that two. Really? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:24:36 Your voice. You're going to see. Yeah, the next play was, Gondrips right. Yeah. And then there was one time in junior college. I was playing Monterey Peninsula Community College in PCC. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:48 And same thing, jumped and clipped my legs and just kind of flipped over. You feel like you're up on one of those rodeo bowls. probably when you're at the top. I feel like Ricky Bobby, I'm in the air. It's not good, you know? Like, that's what you feel like. Yeah. These receivers, man, I feel like people are,
Starting point is 01:25:07 this isn't a narrative question, but it is because I hear the things people say, and they're not counting you out, but it's like, it's like because Diggs is gone, you guys lost, and Diggs is a great player. And I'm a fan of Diggs, and I'm a fan of you. So this isn't a hit piece on Diggs, but I think you guys can be just as good and better.
Starting point is 01:25:27 I mean, tell me why that could be true. Yeah, I mean, I think, again, I'm with you with Diggs. I still love that guy like a brother, and he was so good for us here. The nature of what football is now, it's a lot of zone, a lot of too high, especially when teams play us. They kind of, because when they're playing man, eyes aren't on the quarterback. If you've got a mobile quarterback, that's risky, right? So it's a lot of zone. It's a lot of guys that understand.
Starting point is 01:25:55 where to sit, where to feel, where to throttle. And I think that we've got a lot of smart guys in that receiver room right now that I feel can do that at a high level. So we got some tall guys that can go up and make plays. We got some quick guys in Curtis and Cleo. We got some long speed and MVS. And then some of these young guys are making some names for the cell. You talk about Shavers who's been making some plays throughout camp.
Starting point is 01:26:19 So it'll be interesting to see. I'm very excited to see how this room comes together. but in terms of camaraderie and how guys are jailing with each other it's at an all-time high keon seems like a fun guy the first thing we saw him do when he walked out of the tunnel this morning was tap somebody on the right shoulder and make him look left yep or whatever the fuck that is and i was like man this kid this is a kid in the best way he reminds me a lot of dalton kinkade in that sense who reminds me of me a little bit really so it's like guys that love football but we also just love having fun like that's you have to have fun once you
Starting point is 01:26:51 Once you stop having fun with this thing, like, let's go do something else. Well, the team's better when you have fun. Yeah. You're looser. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:58 You don't dwell on the losses as long. And, you know, I look at Shakir and I think, that guy's got a little bit of, your old guy, Beasley. You know what I mean? We were just talking about this.
Starting point is 01:27:13 Like, I think he's totally underappreciated. 100%. You talk about catch rate? I think he's won last year. Yeah. Maybe even something statistically I saw like ever? Or am I tripping?
Starting point is 01:27:26 Last year is number one. But anyways, he's got like the best catch percentage. You watch anything that he does when he doesn't even have the ball. He's flying to the ball. He's making an extra block. He's following it just in case someone fumbles. He's running the influence to get someone open behind him. He does things the right way.
Starting point is 01:27:43 And he's so fun to throw to. You see the ball within his hands. You talk about the Steelers game last year. cutting up to the defense and scoring in the playoff game. And I'm excited to see him step into a bigger role with this offense. We haven't asked him to do a whole lot over the last couple years. Obviously, last the second half of the year, we incorporated them more in our offense than you saw what we did.
Starting point is 01:28:04 So very, very excited about, you know, his season coming up. Yeah. And with Keon, does he have a physical comp that, like somebody that you've seen? I know comps are mixed back. Some people don't like them, but. Yeah, when he was. going through his college tape, I thought he was kind of a mix between like a Michael Thomas and a Des Bryant. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:28:27 Obviously, a big guy, great body control. And I think Des and Michael Thomas have that great body control. And I think he's up there with him. I think he's the best body control that I've seen in terms of running to the right, jumping off his right and getting left and then running left side, jumping off his left and getting right. And I think that's his basketball background. Yeah. But again, he's 6'4.
Starting point is 01:28:48 I think he plays faster than what his. 40 times said. I know everybody knocks me for that, but, you know, he's a gamer too, and he loves the game of football, so I'm excited to throw it. Sounds like a guy that can run the scramble drill with you. Yeah, I think so too. You know, what's a key to that? A lot of trust, but again, I think I think football IQ is on there, right? Like, I think he's got extreme football IQ, knowing that, you know, he's taller than most DBs that he's going to play, and if their head is turned towards him, he's open. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:29:20 They're not looking at where that ball is. They're looking at what he's doing. He does a great job with late hands and putting himself in position to move his body and catch the football. So just understanding that as a concept, you know, I think he's got that down for the most part. And again, it's only going to get better as we go along and we learn each other a little bit more, but very excited.
Starting point is 01:29:38 Before I asked you about the tight ends, I just popped into my head. So I really want to ask you this question. What's the best ball you ever threw in an NFL game? Jake Coomero against the Denver, Broncos to clinch the division in 2020, the COVID year. They played a little cover for, they pushed the safety, but he didn't move in time. I kind of looked him to the right. And Jake Kumar was just running right down the seam.
Starting point is 01:30:01 And I threw that ball as hard as I can. And it just stayed on a rope and just as Jake looked around, the ball kind of caught him. But I threw that ball the hardest I think I've ever thrown a football in my life. And it was just right on his chest. I bet they could clock that thing. Yeah. I'm sure. I'm sure they've done it before.
Starting point is 01:30:16 But like, yeah, that was that was my most. I think memorable throw just because like, again, just plays that I'd worked on and throws that I had worked on and like coming out of college, right? Everyone's like, oh, he's got the strong arm, but how often do you need to throw it as hard as you can? Right there, motherfucker. Exactly. So, and given the, you know, I was in Denver, which they had the fifth pick, my draft. I know. And you know what always.
Starting point is 01:30:40 I know. So I've played golf with them a couple times and, you know, get the jab him a little bit. But they remember when you didn't draft me? You know, I know. He's, I know, I know. So, now, we have a good time. I've got a lot of respect for him and him into some. He was on the bag for him this year and last year.
Starting point is 01:30:55 So I got to spend a lot of time with them. They're awesome. Can he swing a stick? Yeah, he can. I bet he can. I bet he can. Yeah, you quarterbacks and specialists and you guys can all golf, man. I can't golf.
Starting point is 01:31:08 With Elway, when you hear something like that, how does it make you feel that he? Because when I talked to my dad, too, who made a career out of chasing Elway, he told me, He goes, that's who, you know, before there was Josh Allen, like, there was like, he was like a baby Josh Allen where he, everybody remembers the 90s. Yeah. Because everybody's younger now where it's like you remember old, not decrep it, but older John Elway who wasn't scrambling as well, the helicopter thing. When you played him in the 80s, he was like you. Do you, do you ever watch his tape and see that? Or do you ever watch older quarterbacks and kind of see you in any of them?
Starting point is 01:31:44 Um, honestly, not, not really. Yeah. But I can see the comparisons. Um, and obviously, anytime you're compared to Hall of Fame guy, like, I'm not going to say no or anything bad about that. Um, but again, yeah, I know that he was that guy back in the day, you know. So he's, that's pretty cool to even be mentioned the same breath as him. And, um, yeah, cool. The tight ends, man, you know, like it felt like the offense was running through him.
Starting point is 01:32:12 and I guess one in the same when you made that pivot last year towards those guys Joe took over kind of all in the same in the same time frame what was the key
Starting point is 01:32:26 to you guys looking different because we speculate a lot we analyze scheme but what was it for you that made things a little bit easier and the last guy was a great coach and I know you guys are cool and everybody loves that guy
Starting point is 01:32:38 Dorsey but it's just what changed I just think in terms of like being on the same wavelength. Me and Joe, obviously him being the quarterback coach and just hearing what we were saying and going out there and applying it. But what Joe did, I think that was
Starting point is 01:32:53 I think better than anybody I've been around is what do you guys want to run? Like he wasn't like, we're going to run this, we're going to run that. It's like, no, I want the alignment. What runs do you guys want first? Right. You know, and letting us take ownership in that,
Starting point is 01:33:08 which again, to be switched in mid-year is such a tough position. And in one hand, you feel super shitty about being in this position, but also very grateful that you were given this opportunity. And the way that he was able to balance that was very impressive. And that's why you see him as a full O.C. now. And I'm very excited to see how a full year goes with him. And, you know, what he's doing in this offense right now, I'm very comfortable in. And I've got a lot of trust in him.
Starting point is 01:33:38 Is QB coach one of the most underrated things in the building? because I always feel like to people on the outside, it's an afterthought. They're focused on the coordinators. They're focused on, you know, position coaches maybe sometimes, but they never look at quarterback. And I always feel like that's a position on the staff where every day, the most important person in the building is getting coaching from that guy.
Starting point is 01:33:58 Do you feel like that's overlooked? Without a doubt. And I think, again, the quarterback coach is relaying all the information from an OC to the quarterbacks. Yeah. And he's kind of like that bridge between this is. as quarterbacks as a whole, right? Like, there's certain concepts that we don't like.
Starting point is 01:34:15 And we're sitting in that room like, I freaking hate this play, hate this play. And quarterback coach is hearing it. And if he can go to the OC and be like, hey, because as football players, sometimes we're conditioned to be a yes man, especially in the position that we're in. Like, I can do it.
Starting point is 01:34:33 I can do it. Just call it. I'll figure it out. But in the back of your mind, like, I just hope he doesn't call this play. Right? So in order to have that trust, if you don't have it with the O. see you're going to have it with the quarterback coach and hopefully that quarterback coach can can have
Starting point is 01:34:46 your back and go up to and say what he needs to say and I feel like I'm in a position now where like I if I'm looking at Jum like don't call this well just in general now I feel like in a couple people said that you're like the big vet yeah is that seven is that crazy I remember being year seven and looking around the parking lot and I got a close parking spot and all of a sudden I'm getting the perks yeah the vet perks and I'm saying I'm old yeah like you're not old but do you're not old but do you you feel like the vet now? Yeah, absolutely. I mean, I'm 28 in football years.
Starting point is 01:35:15 That's pretty old, you know, going into year seven. I know a quarterback, it's probably not as old as I think it is, but it's definitely a blessing. I'm very, very honored, but I still feel like I'm one of the young cats, you know? Yeah. What do you wish you, what do you wish you if the young rookie Josh Allen or Wyoming Josh Allen walked in here right now? What would you tell him? It's a tough one.
Starting point is 01:35:43 Somebody asked me this and I was like, man, I'd probably let that kid down because I have no idea what this thing. Yeah. I'd just say, I don't know. What do you wish you knew? Find the check down a little earlier, I guess. I don't know. That's worked out pretty well. Yeah, and I can't say like slide more and this and now. I've been, you know, I've had a great career. Knock on wood.
Starting point is 01:36:09 It wouldn't change much. And again, I think everything that I've gone through and been through, I've learned so much throughout it that and even going back to like the whole denver situation who knows what happens if i get drafted there right who knows if i turn into i'm where i'm supposed to be and i don't know if i change a thing yeah no i hear that and then one other guy that's very underrated in a building for quarterback is a center yeah and Mitch is a guy who yeah people just respect and he's that consummate it's dad you know yes your dad it's dad it's not just mine that everybody in the in the office offense. Like that was like what's up dad? What changes? You know, because the Eagles are going through it right now. I was just with Kelsey the other day. He walks in the field. The guys are like, come back. We need your calls. We need the point. There's so much that a center does. What's the thing for you that takes the biggest adjustment? Well, I think the fact that Connor played next to Mitch last year and heard everything and understands the offense. It's not you're bringing in a guy to learn a completely new system. Like that's,
Starting point is 01:37:14 that's where I think we've got to step ahead. And I think Connor's been doing a great job in terms of communicating with not just me, but the old line and whole. And he understands what he's doing. He understands the play call. He understands where the mic points need to be. And he's a very smart player. So I love having him as my center.
Starting point is 01:37:31 And, you know, I loved Mitch and loved what we are able to do here together. And I got so much respect for him. And, you know, that'll be like a brother to me for my entire life. And I got nothing but love for him and his family. But, you know, football is a business and we move on. And I'm very excited for Congress step into that. The business part of it alluded to Diggs, like there was a time where it was a lot of fun, right? Like, should people look back?
Starting point is 01:37:58 Absolutely. I used to watch you guys and it was like you're in the backyard. It was still fun. I even going back to last year. Like, we had a lot of fun too. Yeah. You know, and I know that people can say what they want to say. But we had a lot of success.
Starting point is 01:38:12 Yeah. And a lot of fun doing it. and on and off the field. Like we were very much like this. So, you know, I hate, I hate that how it ended, right? But at some point, everything comes to an end. It's business. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:38:26 That's the thing. It's so hard to form relationships in this business at a high level and to perform at a high level. You guys are both on top of your game. I think some people think it's, it's just like getting along. It's not that simple. Yeah. You know, so I was bummed to see it end, but I just look back at all the fun you guys had. I hope people realize, you know, there was a lot of good times.
Starting point is 01:38:46 Yeah, and I'll cherish those moments forever. And again, he did so much for me in my football career and helped me become the player that I am. And I'll always respect him and love him for that. After that, this is the first pro game I ever went to. Actually, the second one as a retired guy was the overtime game in Kansas City. Because Kyle, my brother was on the sideline in Kansas City. And you didn't lose that game.
Starting point is 01:39:11 I always told people like, Josh lost a play. off game. Josh didn't lose that playoff game. The rules were fucked up. I wonder, it's a really random question, but did you sleep after that game? Like, could you go to sleep? Like, there was like a sense of, like, it being surreal. Yeah. Right? Like, didn't feel like we lost. Yeah. Um, so I didn't, I didn't sleep too bad, just knowing that I left everything that I had on the field. I just mean being so charged up. That experience had to be. Yeah. It was, it was, it was, was one of the more wild experiences of my life and that moment that like you know flow state i was in flow state that game yeah and just i was here the entire time and like up until that last
Starting point is 01:39:59 touchdown to gab that's when i kind of let loose and you know it's unfortunate how it ended um you know everything happens for a reason though and it's you know i've been through a lot of different things over the last few years and, you know, talking to guys like Vaughn and even Jordan Poor and, like, things are already written. You know, you just got to enjoy the process and enjoy what's, what's been written and it's going to go, go from there. The Chiefs, Bill's rivalry has been a lot of fun to watch. I'd like, I mean, like, I pull for you because I want to see you, I want to see you get one of these. And I look at my homes and I'm like, I mean, he's just such a rare talent. You're a rare talent. You just happen to be in the same damn
Starting point is 01:40:39 conference and i wonder sometimes if you're did you see the last dance i did do you ever feel like you're trying to rewrite that story you know what i mean like he's funny enough like because the last dance came out before that season right was that covid year and you know larry bird goes up to j you you bitch you you bit you i saw him in the locker room and i did the same thing you know i was like hell isn't that funny though because i really do feel like it's football's version of that you know you guys are two of the best to ever do it and yeah it's been hard to get over the hump but i feel like he's got to motivate the chiefs have to motivate you a little bit yeah i think again that was the the patriots dynasty for so long of everybody wants to be that everyone
Starting point is 01:41:32 wants to sustain success and you know there's always going to be someone in that position until they're not. Yeah. And, you know, it's a great story when you can be the one that makes them not be in that position anymore. And again, that's what we're working for. What does it look like in your mind's eye if there's a parade here in Buffalo? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:41:55 Um, I joke about it a lot with guys on the team of just like what the city would look like after the parade. but I just I know like I have vivid dreams about it like just every square inch of downtown Buffalo being just absolutely packed with people and and people ride the bus I don't know if I'd ride the bus I just walk I would just walk you can get on and off the bus the parade's the whole point of winning a Super Bowl yeah like the Super Bowl yeah like the Super Bowl is great but the parade yeah like it's almost like walk a little bit and you know that that's seen in spider man is at the original where he's got the train and he's holding the train and like all of a sudden
Starting point is 01:42:37 he falls forward but they grab them and they just kind of lift him on back I feel like that'd be a lot of players just be like crowd surfing like no buses needed just fucking oh my god dude you're catching fireball for little bottles of fireball for the better part of four hours it's like the greatest thing in the world I'm built for that though you are built for that um last one man I'm going after this to interview Jim Kelly at his uh at Ilias ilio is ilio de bollas yeah so So do you know the history about that place with him and his wife too? Tell me that. Well, you can ask him.
Starting point is 01:43:08 Okay, I'll ask him. So what would you ask, Jim Kelly? That you don't know. I just, I, Liz, I have a good relationship with Jim. I know a lot about him. Make fun of me for not texting back. Okay. To you.
Starting point is 01:43:24 Because he hates and I don't text him back. I'm so bad with my phone. Every time I seem like, hey, asshole. Like, just say okay. And I'm like, I'm sorry, Jim. I apologize. I apologize. Like, it's not, it's not you. I'm not trying to do it to you. Yeah, you grew up outside Fresno. I don't think you're like a big tech guy, like
Starting point is 01:43:40 texting back all the time buried in your phone. I mean, what's he got? 951 on red texts. Okay, hold on a second. I try. I try. What do I have right now? How do you know? It'll usually pop up on the icon. Well, I had like 400 this summer. I think I went through them. I'm proud of that too. Yeah. What does Jim mean to you? Jim has been awesome. He's took him under his wing. He's giving me a lot of insight about this city, you know, how to be a Western New Yorker. He was a guy that didn't want to be here when he got drafted. I know, dude. And sure enough, he lives his life here and raises a family and is still so intertwined, you know, with his foundation here and the people of Western New York.
Starting point is 01:44:29 So he's been nothing but great to me, and I love him, and I respect him. And I know he's been and batting a lot of different things throughout his life the last few years especially. And he's done nothing but have a smile on his face and attack it each and every day. And he's doing great now. You think you drink more beer than them? Right now? Yes. Wow.
Starting point is 01:44:50 I think you go prime for prime. Yeah. I think he's kicking my butt. I think so too. When we come back up for Bill's Mafia, what's the one thing we got to do? We're going to come up and tailgate for a game. Yeah. What's the one thing you want to throw me through a table?
Starting point is 01:45:02 Do you have a tip? Yeah. So there's the bowling ball shots that I've seen. It's like this old bowling ball and people take shots out of it. There's Pinto Ron who does the mustard and ketchup. Maybe you get up on the tailgate and squirt them with mustard and ketchup. I think that's pretty fun. Should I go in the pit?
Starting point is 01:45:18 I've been reading about people. All right. So I'm going to read you a headline and you tell me if they should or should not do this. Maybe it's like a PSA where you tell fans like, do not go in the pit on LSD and cocaine. Okay. This is the headline. Man on LSD and cocaine and other stuff. and says,
Starting point is 01:45:34 Zinn, jumped into the pit and we're charged. The pit is, of course, where they're building a new stadium. Yeah. So there was a time last year where we went on a little hot streak. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:45:49 And people were convinced it was because we were sacrificing people to the pit. Sacrificing people in the pit. So this off season, I did that the schedule release. Oh, I love that. In the pit. So that was my way of sacrificing myself to the pit.
Starting point is 01:46:03 so nobody else has to do it. So don't do it anymore. And stay off the other substances as well as the ones before. He's a fucking public safety whiz, dude. You think he's unsafe. He's safe. Josh, appreciate the time.
Starting point is 01:46:19 Thank you so much. I appreciate it. That's awesome. Go bills. My old teammate, smack holland. Hey, dude, you are like famous now. Nah, I'm just trying to keep up. I just trying to keep up.
Starting point is 01:46:33 You're trend sitting. Hey, I, people always ask me, what was that guy like? I was like, well, he wore shoes when we were in Philly. He was still weird, but he wore shoes. So, so how is it up here? I love it. Dude, like, it's, it's been amazing. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:46:50 Even, like, the, you know, we joke about the barefoot stuff, but, like, having that be accepted and, like, guys don't care. I was out at walkthrough? Yeah, like, everybody's going to be barefoot, Joe Brady's barefoot. Rousseau's barefoot, eponess, dudes on the other side of the ball. Yeah, it's like, whatever. Like that, I love that. Because I was a weird guy. Now look.
Starting point is 01:47:08 Now I got all you. Now who's the weird. Yeah. And I just got a weird ass team. Yeah. And I just got a weird team. And it's like a good mix of young guys and veterans, good energy. Like, does it remind you at all of maybe 17, like some of the makeup?
Starting point is 01:47:24 Yeah. In a lot of ways it does. Really? Even from like the way we practice the, like the standard, like what the standard is. And you've been on teams just that I have. Like sometimes the practice standard is just like, I. that's not that great. And you can kind of know early, like, we're not going to know.
Starting point is 01:47:38 We can tell ourselves we're going to be good, but we don't practice hard enough. Like here, like first practice OTAs, I'm like, oh, these guys go. Yeah. Weight room, like, oh, these guys come here. Yeah, like, does everybody want to lift every day? No. But we're going to get to working because we're there. And we enjoy being around each other.
Starting point is 01:47:51 Who are the leaders? Obviously, Josh, for sure. Yeah, Josh, for sure. And that's so important, as you know, like, if the quarterback's not, like, a leader, it's really hard for your team to be good. And then we obviously have a bunch on defense, but that's, It's leadership in a different way when your defense versus, versus offense. Does Milano say two words?
Starting point is 01:48:11 If you can get it out of him. Yeah. Yeah. No, Malano's good. I think he's so focused on getting back healthy. Yeah. And sometimes you can get in that mode of like I'm just going to help. He just seems like a silent assassin.
Starting point is 01:48:20 He definitely is an assassin for sure. But now there's times where you can get out of it. Yeah. I'll poke the bear. Who are the, who's the tone setters on defense and practice? I mean, Ed is always going to be all over. I fucking love that. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:48:31 Ed's going to be like fucking high energy, get into it. Mm-hmm. So he's probably, if you're talking about, like, just who you're going to always know is out there. Definitely, yeah. That's awesome, man. Does it hurt catching the ball from Josh Allen? Not right now. We're going to find out when it gets a little cold.
Starting point is 01:48:47 Apparently, you know, quarterbacks don't like to go any slower when it's cold out, but they'll just expect us. Yeah. I mean, what's the ball that you've seen him throw in practice that you're like, man, this is different? What route? He actually threw one to me, and I dropped it. It was never again. Never. It was like a seam ball, but we were in the red zone.
Starting point is 01:49:06 Yeah. And I got bracket. So the backer came underneath me. Yeah. And the safety was over top of me. And I'm like, he's not even throwing this. Like, I was barely even paying attention. Like, here I go clear this out.
Starting point is 01:49:17 Ball comes right off the linebackers a year. And I try to throw my hands late and miss it. And I was like, oh, I got to like a guy that can throw any ball. I got to be constantly like ready. Yeah, you got to be ready. It could come out. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:49:29 So he's, he does some crazy shit. Are you, is blocking. the run game a big part of what they ask the receivers do up here is that like a non-negotiable yeah i think like no block no rock type of thing yeah obviously when you get the rock from josh it's it's great because he can sling it yeah like we got jimbo back there we got a lot of great running backs what do you at because i i'm always like man don't don't sleep on this guy mac hollins so you're gonna show up in some big spots yeah he's gonna catch a lot of balls like what do you add um obviously in the run game like a big i'm physical like just just comes off of my special teams i'm big i'm bigger than you remember
Starting point is 01:50:03 You know? Yeah, I didn't say that. You're getting smaller. I'm getting bigger. I didn't say that. Yeah, what are the other night? But yeah, like, I'm able to do that. That's a given, I think.
Starting point is 01:50:11 But I think a lot of people, like you said, sleep on my ability to stretch the field or get open and run routes. Like, I'm going to get open. I'm going to catch the ball. I'm going to make stuff happen. So how many teams have been now? This is the fifth. So Philly.
Starting point is 01:50:22 Philly, Miami, Vegas, Atlanta. What's been your favorite spot outside of Philly and Buffalo? From lifestyle, for sure, Miami. Like, I still live down there. Oh, you do? Like on an off day, guys are going to go, like, rent a boat. Yeah. Like stuff that's just ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:50:37 Is it hard to stay focused in the city like Miami, juxtapose to Buffalo? Yeah, definitely. Yeah. It's just, there's just too many opportunities to do. And it's just always sunny. It's always sunny. Like, there's no like, hey, let's go hang out. It's like, well, it's sunny.
Starting point is 01:50:48 Like, I can go to the beach. I can go do this. And then you know your family's always coming down. Are you ready for the winter here? As ready as I'll ever be. Are you going to put shoes on? Yeah, below 35. Oh, there's a rule.
Starting point is 01:50:59 I tell people, yeah, yeah. I'm barefoot. I'm not a dummy. You know? And you also don't eat with a fork. Yeah, that's a scam. Is it? Dead scam.
Starting point is 01:51:09 So you'll eat whatever, like with your hands. Yeah, my hands. Okay. So the rule is if I go out to eat and we're with the group, like if I want to out to eat with you, you got way more money to me and you're going to be paying. You know what I'm going to act like I'm going to take on my card to you. But you're going to pay. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:51:23 Appreciate it, bro. But I won't eat with my hands there because you're paying. Okay. But if I go out and I'm paying for the meal. Okay. I'll leave me. Well, I'm, well, I'm paying for the meal. a meal today, but will you with our hands.
Starting point is 01:51:33 Are you hungry a little bit? Yeah. Okay. Well, it depends what it is. What we got? Well, we got it. It better not be no junk that. Oh, everybody.
Starting point is 01:51:40 Is it meat and fruit? Ice cream, bro. What are we talking about? What is in here, bro? Hagen-Daws. No, it's not hog and dogs. Yeah, he does. Bro.
Starting point is 01:51:48 We're hungry. But what's in there? Ice cream. Now I'm going to look like a weirdo licking the ice cream. No, we're not going to lick it. We're going to eat with our hands, bro. Here, I'll boil myself a little bit. You don't got to eat with your hands when it's like this.
Starting point is 01:51:59 Oh, really? Yeah, you just drink it. Oh, look at this guy. But I see, I wouldn't eat this, though. You don't know any predators they eat ice cream. You know what I mean? I guess you can eat ice cream. It's very fucking good.
Starting point is 01:52:14 Yeah, you just get the ice cream early. All right. And then let it melt while the rest of the food is the proper food. Fuck, I had soup and everything, but I didn't realize you had a little work around. Soups for suckers? Dead giveaway a sucker. Really? Sucker.
Starting point is 01:52:26 I agree. I don't eat soup. Like, suck. Next you're going to bring out a veggie, bro. You don't have, like, COVID or anything. Do what? You don't know. Well, it's 2024.
Starting point is 01:52:33 I'm going to have a little bit more. It's good. Why no shoes? Like, give me the science behind that. Structurally, it's, it helps with, like, absorption for the knee. Yeah. So, like, all the forces go to your knee and then your hip. So you didn't like my footwear when I walked in here.
Starting point is 01:52:50 I got canes. I mean, the canes are like. That's, like, almost like, be a barefoot. No, it's not. That's what people say. I got crocs on. It's like barefoot. No, if it was like barefoot, you wouldn't have crocs.
Starting point is 01:53:00 No, you're right. You're right, right. Keynes are the same thing. So it's all about the force distribution. That's the like, and for people at home, you would suggest they walk barefoot, how long, and what things would you not have them walking barefoot? Yeah, I'd say like start at your house.
Starting point is 01:53:14 Sorry, your house. Because I started when we were in Philly. It was like, I guess it was my second year. It's 2018. You were doing that? Like, I started off doing barefoot. And I just jogged two, you know, we had all three fields. I did two laps one way, two lapses the other.
Starting point is 01:53:26 And I remember calling my trainer the next day and say, I'm done play. I thought I tore everything in my cast. Lifting barefoot's. good though. Yeah, lifting the barefoot because the shoes will mess up your your force distribution. They can mess your back up. Yeah, so you lift like that. No, I'm with you. So why not move around like that? No, I got a little list of places. And I want you to tell me
Starting point is 01:53:43 if you would walk through these places barefoot. I already know the answer, but go ahead. Subway. Not the store or the subway. Subway station. Both of them. You would walk barefoot through. Is it a bathroom or is it an airport? So you bring in shoes to put them on when you go in the bathroom? Yeah. Okay. The link parking. lot. Barefoot. Okay.
Starting point is 01:54:03 A hospital. Barefoot, but usually they tell me I got to. Usually when I go to the hospital. If I ever go to a children's visit or something? You go to like, you go to a charity thing barefoot. Yeah. Like if they have you a children's hospital, you're walking in barefoot. Sometimes they give me a little, uh, one of those little things they put on top of your shoes.
Starting point is 01:54:21 Little scrub. A little scrubs. A little foot scrub. Yeah. Sometimes they'll give me, though. An unclean preschool or daycare center. Easy. 10 toes down.
Starting point is 01:54:29 The kids are probably barefoot too. What are we talking about? Airport. Airport, no. Really? Yeah. Airport, they won't let me go there. They won't let you.
Starting point is 01:54:37 Yeah. But you have no problem taking your shoes off through security. And the only other place, Trader Joe's. They kick me out every time. Really? And you would think of all. Yes. Like, this is the place.
Starting point is 01:54:47 Hippy. Come on in. Are you a hippie? Are you a hippie? No, I wouldn't say that. I'm a hippie. Yeah. You know that about me.
Starting point is 01:54:53 All right. Well, tell me about Keon Coleman. How funny is that dude? Everything in the interview, that's him. That's exactly who he is. Yeah. Yeah, he, he's a good player, which makes it okay to. You can see it, though.
Starting point is 01:55:06 You know how some guys need a year? Yeah, no, he's ready. Yeah, he's pretty ready. Yeah. Obviously, there'll be a little transition, but he's, no, he's, he's fun to, to happen in the room. I asked Josh for a comp, and he told me about two, he said two players, and I wonder who you think he reminds you of, if anybody that you might have played with or watched him film. Like, personality-wise or? No, personality is probably 101.
Starting point is 01:55:28 Or does he remind you anybody from our Eagles locker room? from our Eagles locker lane is he like lane oh as a receiver maybe Lane's into the barefoot thing he's always walking around with those toe spacers yeah yeah player why
Starting point is 01:55:45 like skill wise I'm like okay he has a little bit of Alshan in him yeah obviously Alshan's a good bit bigger yeah I think Alshan's ball skills are probably probably more developed yeah he said Des Bryant and and Mike Thomas
Starting point is 01:55:59 I could see I would say less than Mike Thomas I'll say more does Brian. How important is Shakir? I feel like that dude's an X factor. Yeah. And nobody talks about it all. Right. He's like knows the offense really well, gets open.
Starting point is 01:56:11 Yeah. And Josh and him just have a good, great chemistry. Like he catches the same ball in two minute drill. And I'm like, are y'all going to cover that? Yeah. It's the same. Same play. Same play every time.
Starting point is 01:56:20 Yeah. You should probably cover it. You should probably cover it. What about tight ends? Because this offense, you obviously not being here for that, but like the tight ends became a big part of what they do. Yeah. I was going to ask Josh, ran out of time,
Starting point is 01:56:33 you're a great football mind. What specifically can you do when you have two tight ends that can catch the ball? Like in what areas of the field, in what situations? Obviously, like short yardage and man. Yeah. But like when else is it like, this is why it helps to have those two guys rather than like a bunch of receivers necessarily on the field?
Starting point is 01:56:52 I think obviously red zone is great because they are running and passing. Like having guys that can can block well enough and also could go run a route on your linebacker that you think is, you know, you're in base and you think you have to cover him. Yeah. There's no chance. The matchup is just a killer every time. Like you said, man, every time, that's a win in our mind. It's got to be. It's got to be a win. So like, there's those type of areas of the field. It's like, in my mind, I'm like, well, I could go in there and do it. Right. Like, what makes Joe a great teacher? I think his willingness to not assume anything. That's a big one. And coaches miss it all the time.
Starting point is 01:57:31 They just assume everybody knows. I'm like... Or like the... They're in such a rush that they don't answer questions or don't stop and cover the detail that's stressing the player out. Yeah. Like a lot of times they're in these meetings upstairs for,
Starting point is 01:57:44 you know, until 1 a.m. And they forget that we weren't in those next day. We're just getting this thing installed. Yeah. I got to go out. The players weren't in there. Y'all were upstairs doing it. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:57:52 So like he's really, really good at that and making sure that all the guys are like, hey, ask questions. Yeah. If we're walking through or walking through. So if you mess up, so be it. Like, this is. they walked through. Remember, do you remember when we went on the run and they asked us
Starting point is 01:58:05 the vets to get up and talk? Yeah. I remember your speech. You do? Yeah. I tell people all the time. What the fuck? You don't remember. Oh, because Zach Earts stole it a year later. Do you really? The play don't care who makes it? Yeah, play don't care who makes it. I say that I say that shit all the time. Make sure you
Starting point is 01:58:21 credit me, motherfucker. I do. I credit you. I say, Chris Larson. Hertz went out there was like, hey man, what I always say is the play don't care. Damn, Ercey! Come on, Earth. Okay. He stole my whole flow.
Starting point is 01:58:34 Bar Bar Bar Bar, bro. Damn. But, no, I was going to ask, like, you're the vet now. Yeah. And if you guys are going to run and they call you up and they say, hey, Mac, what did you learn? What do you, what would you say? I got a lot of bag. So I had to sign and turn training camp.
Starting point is 01:58:50 The first one is, um, is from McDaniels. He said, don't get bored doing the right thing. Yeah. Um, which was something that, you know, I ran a lot of in cuts. You know you run in cuts. It's like, oh, he's starting to jump it. So you want to. put some flavor on it.
Starting point is 01:59:01 It's like, yo, don't get bored just. Try to make it too complicated. Never choose comfort was one that was on there. And then at the bottom was fuck them kids. Yeah, fuck them kids. Yeah, and I like, I've, I've, I very much stand behind that saying. Expound. It's like from the day training camp started until February 9th at 10 p.m.
Starting point is 01:59:28 When the Super Bowl's over. Yeah. Your kids aren't your first priority. Okay. It's your actual. As long as that pool is heated. Yeah. When that confetti falls down, everybody's smiling.
Starting point is 01:59:38 Notice you left the only other person in the house out of that. Yeah. It's just a kid. Don't kill yourself. No, yeah. Be smart or not. Yeah, be smart. It's not like obviously.
Starting point is 01:59:51 No. Fuck them kids. But it's like your focus has to be football. That's what makes it so hard. You can't be great in two things at the same time. Dude, that's why when I, when we were team, I had one son that, you know, was very young. Like, I waited until the end of my career to have kids.
Starting point is 02:00:06 Not to say it's not awesome. Right. To bring your kids to practice and the whole thing, but it's so hard to be a parent and, like, come home and check this at the door. Right. You know what I mean? Right. And not, like, not, like, not focus on football. But, like, when that confetti falls, everybody's smiling.
Starting point is 02:00:20 And the kids are smiling. They smile at you. They forget all about it. And then they're like, it's not, it's not fucking kids anymore. Yeah. Yeah, now it's all season. But we're super bowl champions. And, like, we're on this parade and y'all on the bus more lit than I am.
Starting point is 02:00:30 What do you remember from that year that for Philly fans that watched this show, like what was your favorite memory that year? I think just the way we worked, like the way everybody kind of hated us. Yeah. Like it was so great. Like nobody thought we could win any games. Yeah, and then they hated us. And they hate us.
Starting point is 02:00:48 And it was great. Yeah. You hate the Cowboys. Every year you think the Cowboys are going to be good. I understand why people hate them. Yeah. I was like, what did we do? Why don't hate us for?
Starting point is 02:00:57 Yeah. That and then in the back of the bus, me, Kel's. Bo and uh Rocket League Cellic playing Rocket League on Rocket League bro like I used to sit there and watch y'all for two hours and not play yeah but just kind of commentary yeah just really it was training you up for this just observed yeah I got to get in on it that was like prime prime time is what's the what's the set up in camp here like how's how's Sean's camp and you've been in five camps now like you know what it's like camp has obviously changed a lot just what's allowed to happen what you're telling me
Starting point is 02:01:29 Yeah, I mean, back in 91 when you came in like, you had three of it. So we as the walk up uphill. It was just up hill both way. It's definitely a lot. Like, we compete for sure. Yeah. But if you were like to compare it to it in camp, when I got in league eight years ago, like in the least camp, like, it's a lot.
Starting point is 02:01:46 A little bit easier. Yeah. Just like the amount of that you're allowed to do, like it actually significantly shorter. Yeah. Like, it was three hour camps back in the day, like we were getting $259. Like, we were going to get all of it. Who's the guy you learned the most from as a, that so far in your career in my career um earths was a guy that like he was probably the first guy
Starting point is 02:02:05 i met because he went to school with my older brother um and they like got connected like the day after i got drafted um and he's kind of always been somebody that i've like looked on and we play a lot chess with each other on chess.com i'm sorry about your loss in uh chess this year god damn i heard about it heartbreaking i can't believe i didn't stop he he used a scotch we were going to call you when you lost yeah i know wait i didn't go bear for So how far did you get in the chess? A third. Third?
Starting point is 02:02:32 Yeah. Behind him and Kyle. Kiler. Kiler's fitting in the video games and the chess. A little bit of everything. He's a renaissance. A little bit of everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:02:43 But yeah, Earth's, but then, like, throughout my career, like, just as receivers. Yeah, receiver. Having Alshan and Tori. Yeah. Because they were very two different, very different people,
Starting point is 02:02:52 but taught me a lot in different ways. And Tori's a vet where he wasn't physically the most gifted. Yeah. But those guys are the guys you want to listen to. They might not be the stars of the team, but you know why they're in the league for that long. Yeah. And then having Devante was great.
Starting point is 02:03:08 What do you, if you had to give it, if you had to give advice to younger receiver, not the thing you said earlier with fuck them kids and all that, but like specifically what advice would you give to a young receiver? I say train football. Like a lot of shit I see is just like, goofy.
Starting point is 02:03:26 Goofy. Yeah. Like it's just like, what are you doing? Yeah. You would never do that in a game. You took 37 steps. So you did like the damn dance move. Don't get bored.
Starting point is 02:03:35 Doing the right thing. Just like just go run routes. Yeah. Go catch the ball. I think a lot of people like you think about that you go out and run routes. They don't run the same route over and no. Like if you go out there and I run a slant and a in cut in a hitch on each side, you're telling me that I got better.
Starting point is 02:03:49 I only ran two routes. Yeah. Like go out there and run slants today. Yeah. Get better at that. Well, when the game's on the line, it might be a slant. Right. But if you only ran two?
Starting point is 02:03:57 it's not going to be a i don't know what the fuck you call it but one of those ins and then out yeah all right like a post corner yeah it's not gonna be a post corner it's not gonna be a cool fancy route that you're doing on i t's third and four the games yeah with your footwork guy yeah who's never played a snap do you look at your madden rating i haven't played madden since i got to okay so i've no idea so let me ask you this then is the last thing i'll have you do can you rank maybe your favorite receivers in the league favorite receivers yeah maybe not the best you could Tell me you think he's the best in the league, but maybe your favorites,
Starting point is 02:04:29 maybe guys that don't get enough credit. Oh, they don't get no credit. I mean, Khalil, I think for sure, is somebody that doesn't get enough credit. Yeah,
Starting point is 02:04:39 your guy. Yeah. Yeah, I got Khalil. Around the league. Is Jefferson the best? Because I think he's the best right now. I'd be Tyreek and him.
Starting point is 02:04:50 I mean, they're two totally different guys, but very different. You play with Devante, yeah? Yeah, Devante, good. Yeah, it's hard to pick any of them.
Starting point is 02:04:57 over like those three those are the three i think it's hard like if you put them all all had the exact same quarterback what makes devante great he's just consistently great like he doesn't get bored he doesn't get bored literally like his his like if he said if you asked them after like how was your day and he's like uh wasn't a good one you would never know you would have thought it was a great day because his standard is like yeah just so much higher this is what i always do yeah like when we were in Vegas like he would start a whole drill over right with a rep that looked good i'm like oh that look good to me.
