Can you walk me through this situation, like from a quarterback's point of view?
Because I think it is very unrealistic, unrealistic to expect Josh Allen to make that throw.
That's what how good frigging Spags is, is he dares you to do the 401 answer.
Not only just the 101 install, not only the 201, it's like, no, it's like really like, okay, if we're wrong here, we're fucked.

It's Super Bowl time and Bo Allen is coming in hot with the Chiefs Eagles preview.
He's got Nate Tice on to join him.
Two legends of the Minnesota high school football scene.
They talk the matchups to look for in the Super Bowl,
how Jayland's going to play against Spaggs' defense,
and they break down Josh Allen's play against the Kansas City Chiefs.
What he did, what he could have done, how you beat that blitz.
A very informational episode for you.
So enjoy it and we'll be back later this week with some great content.
What is up, everybody? It's the Butter King. Welcome to the Butter King's Wednesday Roundup. We're still workshopping the name. Today I'm joined by my former Badger teammate, fellow Minnesotan employee of Yahoo and the host of Football 301 Nate Tice. Nate, thank you for joining us. Yeah, very excited. I like the Butter Boys. Butter Boys. Weekly Roundup was a good one that your producer threw in right in the green room.
No, thanks for having me.
Very excited to be here.
Yeah, man, it's always good to catch up.
You're a fellow butterboy now, too.
If you come on the show, you earn butterboy status.
I like that.
Appreciate it.
Did I ever tell you that I got up?
I may have saw you.
When I was with the Falcons and I was living alone and eating a lot of Chick-fil-A and working
along hours, I got up to like 268.
Wow.
And how I knew I needed to lose weight, moving to California helped.
How I knew I needed to lose weight was people stopped asking if I was a quarterback
maybe receiver, maybe tight end.
And they go, so were you tackle?
Wow.
And that's when I was like, oh.
Yeah, that's.
We got to start dropping the weight here.
Yeah, I go the other way.
People are always like, oh, what were you a lineback?
And I'm like, Jesus.
Like, you're not helping my body dysmorphia with that.
Do you weigh more now or when you were a freshman in high school?
I'm more now, but not by, not by a whole lot.
That's pretty crazy.
I'm like 280 right now.
I think my freshman year, I was like 270.
I remember.
Yeah.
I remember.
The only team ran a 3-4 because of your ass.
Literally because of your ass.
Nate and I were high school rivals.
Nate went to Edina.
I went to Minnetonk and he was a quarterback.
I was a noseguard.
Yeah.
Back in the Lord is, Friday night lights.
They dropped eight every play.
We ran Quick game and had no idea what to do.
I remember like, did you guys have the biggest splits out of your offensive line?
I was like, what do you guys think you are?
The Dallas Cowboys?
New York Jets.
It was like version.
1 of like
good spread offense
of what offenses are now.
It was like yeah,
it was the bare bones.
It was like,
let's try and copy stuff we saw on TV
and see if it works.
Good times, man.
All right,
well,
we're here to talk some football,
man,
so I'd love to get right into it.
I don't know if you know this,
but there is a football game
coming up here in,
in what,
a week,
two weeks.
I've lost all track of time
on my little,
I've been on a little bit of a bender,
but two weeks or so.
It's exciting.
Yeah, and then you go to New Orleans.
I'm going to New Orleans on Tuesday, yeah.
Okay, I go Sunday to Sunday.
I live before the game.
I'm hoping to see you out there, brother.
I hope to see you as well, but I'm hydrating.
Yeah.
Let's talk about this matchup here.
What, I think we just kind of get right into it, man.
What do you feel like is the most critical matchup on either side of the ball here?
Just from like a maybe like a one-on-one matchup.
up or a unit match.
Yeah.
I think anytime you play the Eagles, it's all right.
Well, now their defense is pretty good, but it's how you go against the offensive line.
It's just like that's what you have to stop.
That's what you have to somehow disrupt, which is easier said than done.
I think this year, the Eagles have been much better against the blitz and G1Hertz has.
And going against Spaggs, usually that's like, oh, how does you see, how does Spagnolla do and his defense do against this quarterback?
It's been a little iffy with Hertz in the past, but this year they've been much better,
and their offensive line's been much better.
So you kind of take that card away.
But Spaggs also has a buy week.
But then also in the run game, the chiefs have kind of tapered off a little bit stopping the run.
But the thing that they've really been kind of a little bit if he against is two back runs,
you know, like I formation, Kingstuff, fullback stuff.
Eagles kind of don't really do that.
They have a fullback.
And they kind of toy with it a little bit.
But it's like, yeah, exactly.
it's kind of in calcutera as a truly a receiving tight end you know so um but it's just kind of
that's what's fun about the super bowl is you get that by week so you kind of see if teams get
creative they attack those kind of things but that's really what i always just kind of focus on before
yeah i mean i i love the o line for the eagles a little banged up with jurgens and and land and dickerson
so curious to see how they you know kind of what the injuries are and if they're able to get healthy
i suspect that one of them should be available but uh still pretty early um
The backs aren't fun.
No,
it's not fun.
Yeah,
but dude,
shout out to them for grinding it out.
Like I know,
everyone's banged up,
but like they're dealing with some serious stuff.
Anytime you see Landon Dickerson kind of limping around,
you know it's something that is,
those are two tough motherfuckers.
So one of the matchups I'm excited to see is,
you know,
I'm a defensive guy.
So let's keep it.
Of course.
Let's keep it defense.
There's two on,
you know,
on this,
you know,
the defensive line matchup,
I'm excited to see.
would be like Jalen Carter.
I love watching him play against Creed Humphrey.
I think Creed is a really good center.
I feel like he might be the best center in the NFL.
Yeah.
So that's one that I'm excited to see.
But then also, you know, those stud young D.Bs from the birds like Cooper,
Quinion Mitchell, who both played great in the championship game.
I'm kind of just excited to see the matchup against Patrick Mahomes.
I don't know if that's necessarily a matchup, but, you know, like these young guys in the
biggest stage of their lives, they've been playing unbelievable full.
football like is the moment going to be too big for them? How are they going to, you know,
kind of come out and, and disrupt Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs offense and the Chiefs
offense is super, you know, confident and poised and they've been there before. So it'll be
interesting to see that matchup against, you know, two younger players who are in their first Super Bowl.
Yeah, one coming from Toledo. Like, you know, that, that's what's pretty insane. Like a year
ago was a senior bowl and he was in Quinion and Mitchell, like I, lucky I was my was working with the
athletic i was working with dame brugler and he was like one of the best draft experts out there and
if not the best and he i i did quinineau michael like middle of last season and then he was just
yeah like he had him like 29 on his first big board and i was like oh Toledo all right and he just
kept rising kept rising and here he is in the freaking super bowl and i thought he played so well and they
tackle and that's that's another thing as defensive guy i'm sure he loves both of these defenses
tackle really well which is kind of right one is a little more freewheeling and
the Chiefs and then Fangio's is just like static, slow rotating, okay.
It says, you know what you're going to get, but everyone just tackles and plays the fundamentals
really well, eight to be corny, but they do.
And I think that's what's pretty cool.
We love fundamentals, man.
Oh, yeah.
It's the building block of good football, you know.
I had a stat about this whole, oh, yeah, this is great radio, if I can find it.
I got a good step for you while you're looking for that if you're ready.
Perfect.
So we talked about, you know, Vic Fangio and his defense and how those young guys are
ball in that defense.
Fangio's faced Patrick Mahomes eight times.
So six with Denver, two with Miami.
And he's 0 and eight against Pat Mahomes,
who has 10 touchdowns and two interceptions across those games.
So that's another very interesting matchup.
That is one.
Yeah, that's the thing with a,
I mean, this is a really talented unit.
Like when he was in Denver, you know, he had Sartan.
And I'm like, that's it.
And, you know, some other guys,
some other guys got there like later on.
But it was just kind of, this is such a talented unit.
But, oh, okay, here it was.
So yak, you know, yards after catch, over expected.
Nice little next gen stats, nerd stat here.
The team that's best, number one, as far as preventing this,
Chiefs, team that's number two, Eagles.
And I just thought that was pretty cool.
Like, they just don't.
So we think of explosive plays as just like bombs, you know,
but it's also tackling, which is kind of ironic with the Terry McCorn
touchdown last week, but I swear the Eagles are good tacklers.
I swear they are.
It's just, I love this type of ball.
It's just like, it's nothing wonky or bad ball, if that makes sense.
It's like, you know, it's all pretty sound.
And I think that's what's kind of cool up when I watch a matchup like this.
And that's what you expect to see in the playoffs.
And there was some, you know, some bad ball in the playoffs at certain points,
especially in the wildcar round.
But like, talk about tackling, dude, the commanders did not tackle Saquan Barkley very well.
Like that first touch he had, it's like, don't get me wrong.
Great play by him.
And I think he's a offensive MVP, you know, the.
MVP, but it's also like, let's call spade a spade, not the best tackling by the commander's
defense.
No, I think they had a like a triple, triple headshot there.
Yeah, I think it was like one of the, AJ Brown on the edge and used them as a battering ram.
Yeah, exactly.
Got his feet a little tangled up.
No, I think this is, it's also just a cool, the chiefs are just such a weird team, like,
in the sense of like, they can kind of, I don't want to say coach.
during the regular season.
But they can kind of just work on things.
Like they really can.
Like,
and it's kind of like this year,
their offense didn't feel real until,
uh,
you know,
the Rashir Rice,
that injury everyone kind of forgets.
Right.
But it's just kind of,
I don't say forgets,
but it's kind of,
he's,
he was really ascending,
like into like,
yeah,
star level.
And DeAndre Hopkins comes in,
okay,
he helps Xavier Worthy move around.
So they were trying that around,
because Xavier worthy on the ball is not great.
And then they,
Hollywood Brown comes back.
And then now it's like, okay, this offense feels more real, or at least this version of it.
Yeah.
And it's like, is it Optimus Prime and something awesome?
No, but it still is good and so very good.
And still has Patrick Mahomes and a pretty good offensive line, at least in the interior.
Yeah.
And I mean, speaking of the Chiefs offensive line, we gave the Eagles offensive lines and flowers.
But like the guy who I think deserves a lot of love for the Chiefs is Joe Tuny.
I played with him in New England.
And the fact that he's kicking out there to left tackle, just to shore up the, you know, the offensive line that's had problems.
Like he's a great guard.
It's not easy to slide out there.
It's like, oh, just go play left tackle.
It's like, that's not a normal thing, you know.
No.
So I want to make sure that he gets loved just for his versatility, you know, just his willingness to do whatever it takes to get the team some wins.
And then also, like, I think he's in his, this is going to be a sixth Super Bowl, I think.
I got to look that up.
But I think it's crazy.
So I want to give him to love.
Yeah.
I think my dad went 0 and 6 and AFC and IFC championship games.
Like just couldn't even get to one.
Yeah.
But you have that stat ready to go anytime he needs to be.
Always because I can't remember.
I always want to remind of because I thought I'd get there once.
And now I'm in media.
Yeah.
No, no.
That's a great point with Tuni too is like also just dropping them in.
Oh yeah.
Go against Will Anderson, Deniel Hunter.
Have fun out there.
But like just playing the last week.
Yeah.
And in Von Miller.
Yeah, all those guys.
But I know, that's, no, that's a great point.
And like when he, even just bring it in there, like, I was curious if they would go
with Humphrey, or Humphreys or him or him at guard, Humphreys on the outside.
And Humphreys gave up like a 30% pressure rate in week 18.
And I was like, yeah, I think I know what they're going to do.
I think I think you know which way they're going to lean.
But it isn't easy.
And especially he's not, he's played tackle before.
And also just like the mental load of that is crazy to me because it's not like the guy
and next to him has played a lot of ball.
So you know he's helping him out probably a little bit too.
And you already gave a shout out to Creed Humphrey,
but I'm glad he did because he is probably the best center in the game.
Yeah.
He's super mobile and like no knock against him.
Like not a super impressive body by any means.
No, very square built.
Yeah.
But like it's a job done.
He's a really good player, man.
And you see him out on the perimeter even on screens and you know,
Andy reads stuff like that.
So he's,
he's fixed his snap too.
That was always an issue with him.
He used to rifle him.
ball.
So is that a thing?
Yeah.
He changed it.
Yeah.
As a nose guard,
like you used to just line up right over the ball.
I noticed that right away that season.
He changed it last year, I want to say, but I, uh, that, because that was used to
be an issue for him.
He would snap a lot low because he'd be firing out and that ball would come hot.
And that was always something that was like, God, my homes is, it's crazy.
Like, what athlete, like the hand eye he has and stuff that, like handle those.
And, but that was the thing.
I think they changed it to the kind of, like, knuckleball snout.
app, I should say.
Yeah.
So it doesn't, yeah, but it's worked.
I think that helps out a lot.
And he's a lefty.
Yeah.
That probably screws you up as a noseguard too.
Yeah, you're so used to attacking the center snap hand, you know, and then all of a sudden
you're like, wait, the same right?
Yeah.
Current was a lefty.
Jay current, remember?
Yeah.
It sucked as a quarterback under center lefty.
You have to get so used to it like because it just, it just comes in differently
too.
But yeah, that was my first lefty.
You never forget your first.
Yeah.
All right.
Back to talking about the Super Bowl.
Nate, a couple things that I want to ask you about.
You mentioned, obviously Spags blitzes a lot.
One thing I noticed about the commanders game is Dan Quinn, like they blitz, I think
had some stats at one point, but it was like 57% of the time, which was up from like mid-30s
at some point, you know, up until that point in the season.
I feel like Jalen played his best game that I've seen in a while.
I was really impressed with him.
How do you feel like as a quarterback?
Like I feel like I'm not qualified to talk about quarterback play because of all this fucking
noseguard.
But just like, how do you feel about Jalen matching up against against the Blitz and some of the
more exotic stuff that Spag is expected to bring?
Yeah, I think now he just has a better better understanding of not just like, okay,
immediately bailing, at least hanging in the pocket.
Like that's the thing.
That's the hardest part about playing, going against the Blitz when you're a quarterback is
you like, but you see a guy running.
You know the protection is supposed to get them.
You know the protection is supposed to get them, but you have to not look right at it.
You have to trust that your running back is going to go there or the guard's going to slide over there.
And that's like leaning into the punch a little bit, like as a boxer.
Like you got to trust that it's going to work.
So I think that's always the first thing.
And that's what kind of me as a quarterback out, kind of get disappointed with her,
it's especially against like a Todd Bulls defense.
Yeah.
Like a lot of exotic stuff and that like as soon as he saw color, he was like, I'm gone.
And it's hard to win that way.
It just you can, but it's just very hard, especially in the playoffs, when everything's so tight.
And I think this year he just finds an answer.
Like he just hangs, I'm going to throw out.
He still sometimes can get a little skittish,
but it's still, I think, is like just hanging in there and at least being efficient.
And trusting that his production is going to be there and or he's going to, you know,
AJ Brown's going to make another great play for Devontes Smith or Goddard or something like that.
They've also, Kellan Moore has given them good answers.
Moore is really, it's kind of nice for me as watching it.
They do a lot of things like Moore is of Scott Linnehan.
guy and scott waynehan was my dad's offense coordinator so i recognize it so i kind of like so it's
a very sound and i think that's helped out too is like their protection stuff is a little bit better
last week was a little tough landing in there but he's doing all weekend um but it's just with jurgens
in there i've been very impressed with jurgens's mental side too and that's really helped out
against the bullets as well i love jurgens as a player and i think people like you know obviously
the conversation before the season is how is cam jurgens are going to step in with tells
retiring. One thing I think a lot of people don't realize is how much Kelsey did as a vet,
just calling out blitz protections, making the quarterback at ease. And like, listen, those are
tough shoes to fill in Philadelphia. And I love Kelsey, but I think Cam has done a really good job.
Like, he's, he's just got this toughness that I respect. And also like, dude, he's banged up last
week, uh, the touchdown on the design quarter. I think it was a draw that Jalen had. Like,
Cam did such a good job on the second level. I think he sealed the safety off and, um, got
jailing into the in the head zone so like shout out the fucking jerky man big big fan of his it really is and
yeah the i'm glad you brought the center center stuff though it's like people don't realize how
important a good center is and just especially for a young quarterback or any type of quarterback
and i was actually i'm glad he brought that up because before the season i was that was what i was
curious about with the eagles was like kellen more had deck prescott do a lot and also um
justin herbert did a lot before the snap i was like all right is he can put a lot on
on the first year center quote-on-quote you know first time you know first time starting center
and turgan's been great like i thought i think he's just been so good at it so i love them as a player
too um so you brought up kellen more i'm you know i want to make sure we give the chief's attention to
a little bit of an eagles homer pot here like i know we're about bread and buttered okay but um
it's totally fine the the ellen more i feel like lately just with the way the coaching cycle has gone
has become a super hot name within the last, I don't know, two weeks, I feel like.
Yeah.
Where, like, where do you think, you know, like, just looking ahead to the future a little bit?
Everything goes well for him in the Super Bowl or, like, he calls a good game, whatever.
Is there anywhere you think would be a great fit for, for Callum, are the Eagles expecting to lose him?
It kind of feels that way at this point.
Yeah, I mean, very rapidly, it would seem like it's just fun when the news gets dropped,
to like how quickly everybody says it.
But like once McCarthy dropped out in New Orleans, that it becomes real again.
Like, because I actually thought Cowan was all set up for the Cowboys.
I was like, man, it's kind of like part of me though is like, all right, they keep giving
Schadenheimer another interview.
And they also like, if they would have hired more, they would hire them by now.
Like, you know, or they would have kind of like done something or done something
would have happened.
I know the Eagles were still playing and everything.
But they would have just paused.
It wouldn't have been so rushed.
And also like would have been weird to hire more after he went to.
LA and then Philly and then bring it back to like become the head coach.
So I kind of was starting not to add up.
And I thought, I mean, New Orleans is the one spot that's still open.
And it's also just like the, you know, it's one of 32 jobs.
Like is it the most pristine and ideal job?
No, because it's in Capel and they have so much stuff to figure out.
It's like it's one of 32.
And if you do a decent job, you'll get some time and you can maybe turn it around.
And so I think, you know, that's the one spot that's open.
And it makes sense.
I think as far as for him.
just where they're at as well.
Yeah.
Initially,
I mean,
before Aaron Glenn got hired in New York,
I thought that'd be a good fit,
you know.
Yeah.
But they've had,
you know,
defensive head coaches in the past.
Oh,
my God,
forever.
It seems like,
it seems like a,
you know,
a young offensive,
you know,
kind of a young,
sexy offensive coordinator
might be something like a refreshing change for them.
Right.
Especially one that,
like,
all those,
you know,
gets younger,
like your players and all that,
too like very much young i mean shoot it's my my class which blows my mind i mean i mean
i'm i mean leum guys i played against and with our coaches now i'm like what the oh my god uh were you
did you nick ralas yeah dude i was gonna say minnesota guy you that is that is right yeah yeah yeah
yeah so i know i know his two older brothers they were on either grade above and a grade below
mike right mike and matt yeah yeah mike i played against in high school yes that makes sense yeah
Mike was the wrestler.
Yeah, yeah, great dude.
But no, it's just so funny.
Like, he's like, Nick?
Yeah.
And he's a defense coordinator?
I know.
I was like, bro, I didn't go look up his age.
I was like, is this fucking guy younger than me?
Like, what the fuck am I doing in my life?
Young is play caller in the league.
Yeah, he's crazy.
He heard great things about him from because he was really, um,
the cards defense, the second half of the year, too, really picked up.
So I'm, they didn't have a huge name guy.
You know what I mean?
No.
Besides Buda Baker.
Budabaker and who they try to use every, everywhere.
like they're running everywhere um no i i they're like i'm i'm pretty optimistic about them where
they're going to be next year like they're they're they're pretty good team they're frisky yeah um
okay before we move on from super bowl talk just yeah this is kind of throwing this at you so
you know you can take a moment to think about if you want but i was wondering if you could
you know these are two pretty star set of teams i like to give guys shoutouts who play really
well that maybe aren't super you know household name so like i was wonder if you could just
pick a guy offense defense from each team that you really like.
I already talked about Cam Juergens offensively for the Eagles.
So I'll go with him.
Defensively, let's keep it in the front seven.
I think Milton Williams is head of.
Oh, yeah.
That's the only one.
Yeah.
He's a really good year.
I'm not sure whether or not the birds will be able to retain him and free agency.
We'll see.
So those are two guys that I've been really impressed with.
I was wondering if if I could.
those for the Eagles.
I'll think about the Chiefs for a second,
but if you got anyone.
Yeah, no,
Milton Williams is a good one, though,
because he,
among all D-tackles,
I tweeted this,
but among all defensive tackles,
he was second in pressure rate this year.
So he,
that's a capital C contract year.
Yeah.
Right there.
He's about to get paid.
Good team.
I'll give,
yeah,
he's such a good player.
I really like him.
So,
safe for the Chiefs,
Justin Reed,
is,
as a player,
I'm a big fan of just so smart and just such a good tackler.
I thought the addition of him a few years ago was a big kind of like identity change for the chiefs.
Not to like bash the guy, but Tyron Matthew was the safety he replaced.
And Matthew, you know, it can be indifferent to tackling.
And I thought I thought when Reid came in, that whole yak stat I brought up, he epitomizes kind of what they're about being smart, versatile, all that.
So Justin Reed is a guy I really like.
And I mean, why don't I give a shout out to a little Chanel?
Dude, I was just about to say.
Go badgers.
Because, I mean, him and Bond, I mean, both badgers are guys that, like, teams are finding
a role for these guys.
They're kind of tweeners.
And guys are, and they're, these smart defensive coordinators are finding ways to use
them.
Like, like, Von as like, you know.
Van Ginkle, another one.
I know.
It's like, it, and which makes sense because how they're used to shoot even at Wisconsin.
It makes total sense that now that just roles make sense.
But it's kind of, it's been fun watching him because a lot of teams,
liked him and then you tested out off the charts and everyone's like but where do you put
them so everyone was like oh with the Patriots maybe wanted them and then now the chiefs and
and and uh friggin spags weaponizes him total he took over in the super bowl last year
shit i got to think yeah he had a great super bowl last year yeah let me think no one smith has
had a good year yeah he's he's yeah he's been a lot better against the wrong you wanted to give uh
uh burks the backup for um nicoby dean a little force fumble really yeah he's been playing really well
in the playoffs that was another one let me give uh offensively for the chiefs justin watson i played with
him in tampa dude that like plays the ass off on special teams yeah he was kind of lost
him always on the field wide receiver shuffle of you know chris godwin and mike evans and
everyone down in tampa and that has just created such a great role for himself i was thinking i was
like wow he's about to be in his fourth super bowl like that's incredible he's he is all reliable
for them yeah it's like he he always is on the field because they can trust any of the other
years.
Obviously, they were banged up at wide receiver at points or near.
Like saw him.
I think he caught a two point conversion last week, maybe, or two weeks ago.
Yeah, sometimes it was probably off.
Yeah, I don't know.
All the ones together.
He's going for a three piece.
He's incredible.
And then defensively, Mike Dana has actually, uh, had a good place.
He played really well last week.
Um, Carl Loftus, I always had a three sacks in the division around, but I think
Dana is like, dude, it's also like strap.
We give Dan.
They got so many, like,
one of one players like they're all like kind of you know very uniquely built players like even uh
trent macduffy is like unique like because he's all he was a slot guy and i always thought he'd just
be a slot only guy and then they bumped him back to the outside and he's just been he's been good this
year other than mac hollins weirdly getting him last week which was still like a really weird
score yeah uh but but no no macduffy is another guy i mean he's a star he's an all pro and everything
but he's just he he he's been really dynamite on the outside this year that's got actually
be a fun matchup because he'll face brown and devante more yeah and i think dude people sleep on
devante like he's so good like i think he could be a one elsewhere yeah oh yeah like his toe tap
catches he had one in uh against the commanders last week it's just like he makes it look so easy
yep yeah he's such a fluid athlete he uh he's so such a good route runner too like he he's so just like yeah
I love him.
He's one of my favorite, like, players in the league.
And usually it's not the type of receiver I like.
I like my, like, 210-pound guys.
And, you know, he's always watch him, too, is how quickly he can get north.
Even though he's not like a, he's more of a gangly guy, like, when he catches, like, flats and stuff, how quickly he just gets north.
It's always so fun to watch.
Sorry, it's my little scouting nerd thing.
Oh, I love it, man.
I like football.
I got a couple of random things to you, and then we'll wrap.
Yeah.
The first one is, so I was on Twitter.
I've been fucking around on Twitter pretty heavy lately,
but I saw there was so much criticism of, you know,
Josh Allen on that last play, you know,
for not hitting that swing route or whatever,
that war,
whatever the fuck it was.
And I'm not a quarterback.
You talked about it earlier a little bit with pressure in your face,
how hard it is to,
like it just seemed to me,
like you,
can you walk me through this situation,
like from a quarterback's point of view?
Because I think it is very unrealistic.
unrealistic to expect Josh Allen to make that throw.
Turn over that.
And also too is when you are usually replacing a blitz,
you're throwing into the blitz.
So that it's like a trap in basketball.
You throw into where the guy's coming from.
And so that is where your brain is kind of just set that way.
Like you can rally to it if you can build,
get space and everything.
And Josh Allen is a great athlete.
It's like, yeah,
in a 1% world that he could find it.
Yes, he is athletic.
enough to find it. But I think just that situation, that and also that's not the true hot throw
because it was kind of it was a mesh concept. And the hot throw on mesh is the crosser. So,
but that's what how good friggin spags is is he dares you to do the 401 answer. The not only just
the 101 install, not only the 201. It's like, no, it's like really like, okay, if we're wrong here,
we're fucked. Yeah. You know, but if we're right, we block it up when you're working about to
gash you for and it feels like he's a touchdown for a critical moment that's what he did you know
it's what specks does man think about how he blitz the niners in the super bowl previously it's like
with as soon as you see his kittle in the backfield he blitz them it's like yeah that's like
yeah that's what he does and he dares you to do that and teams you can catch him um the bangles
a few years ago in a fc championship game in the second half it was like a third and seventeen
they blitz them cover zero and bro they block it up and so burrow just is able to hitch into it
and launch it and they cash them and that's how you those are the theories of beating the blitz is you
throw it quick or you block it up and gash it um i'm of the belief of the second one so that is it's
harder you know but it's the school of football i've come there that's what just outland believes in
that is what we did at wisconsin that is what my dad believed in it's that's the way i believe in
you try to punish him for for playing that aggressively essentially yep you you appreciate that
they try to hit you up but gash or be gash and so you block it up and we launch it um so that is
so what they did was going to find me of protection we're going to get rid of the ball josh will find
the answer. We're on mesh that has quick answers and deep answers if he wants to find them.
But they're going against specs. So they know this stuff. All the guys dropped from the field
into the hot answer. So even if you went left, the swing still has been as quote unquote
second hot answer, which is still, that's hard. You don't have time to go over there, man. No.
So to me, my brain goes, because with my, I just brought my like football dogma up is, all right,
if you're in your five man protection, how do you block this up? And all right, it's either you four man
slide it to the right, which would still make the corner hot.
And okay, maybe he's looking into it and you can make move on them.
Okay, it's Trent McDuffie.
You know, it's really good blitzer.
All right.
Or the perfect answer is you full slide all five guys to the right.
But that's a scouted look that you practice against that.
Someone from the bill said that they had basically faked that previous blitz where everyone
showed and then they dropped out.
They showed it from all the time.
Yeah, it feels like Spag set that up pretty well.
Yep.
Throughout the course of the playoffs and through the course of that game.
So it's like, yeah, a perfect situation.
You're going against one of the goats of defense coordinating.
Like one of the best game planners and game play callers and playoff history.
Like it truly is.
So you're up there with Belichick.
So it's like you got sometimes the defense is good.
Like sometimes.
And yeah, the offense could find an answer.
But it's like, again, you're asking for the most advanced answer possible,
which is just like yeah that's hard that's really hard on a fourth down on the road uh for your
entire season okay yeah yeah okay they're superheroes but not i mean they're not all perfect
man that's usually i get into the weeds on you know o line d line technique and and things like that
i feel like to hear from a quarterback is it's fun for me because it's just so educational you know
uh my family and i we like to go out west and and travel in the in the summer sometimes
and we've gone to montana for long stretches and uh when we go out there you know it can be expensive
to travel you got three kids you're lugging them across the country the plane tickets add up when you're
gone you know you can be double dipping you can be enjoying your vacation and making money at home
passive income my favorite kind of income your house might be worth more than you think it is with
a Airbnb find out more at arb.com slash host that's all ahead uh what do you you got a Gatorade color you got a beat on that
that's like the only Super Bowl bet that I like get boned up for
what are you leaning this year I don't know man I'm just I always go with a red for some
I was gonna say I always go like red or orange yeah like that's kind of the classics and it were lemon you know you so yellow purple is two time defending champ apparently so chiefs are a purple team I don't know yeah I guess they're just their trainers just love the purple Gatorade or what their players do because that's that's got to be like a leadership thing right leadership
council what gatorade do we prefer on the side leadership council like hey guys we got a very serious
meeting today what color that's how it works it's like what color gatorade do we have this is a team issue
it's so funny we played in the super bowl i didn't realize how big of a thing it was and i people
texting me about it like hey hey pregame let me know like what gatorade they're rocking out there
i'm like what the fuck is this person talking about and now like years later it's like kind of a fun
the another one was when they would mic check the anthem oh yeah so people
People are there early.
Media's there early, right?
Yeah.
So there's a whole bunch of people.
And there's people near me that like they with their phone and they're like,
okay.
They're like they're telling people and like that and then the real one went 30 seconds longer.
It was so funny.
They thought, oh, easy under.
She's like 20 seconds.
You know, and she went like 20 seconds over a 10 seconds.
I'm always picking over for Anthem because it's like this is the biggest stage for
some of the fingers.
Like they're going to draw.
shit out. They weren't impressed.
Absolutely. Absolutely. I don't even know what the stats are, but that's my theory, too.
I was like, this is, yeah. Have you ever met a theater kid?
Exactly. They want to put them up the like, baby. They're not giving that thing up for nobody.
All right. As we, here we are, as here we are on our podcast.
Hey, we're going to wrap. Hey, 20 minutes, 35 minutes later.
Yeah. My bad. Well, cool, man. I appreciate it. Always great talking ball with you.
And hopefully I'll see you next, next week in New Orleans. Yeah.
Nate and I have known each other all for a fucking long time,
all the way back to Minnesota High School Athletics.
So appreciate you coming on, Nate, and chopping it up with you.
Everyone, please check out Nate's podcast Football 301.
It's great.
Thanks for having me.
