The bridge to this working out is not that fucking long, dude.
It's just a big leap, right?
It's just like people are putting their jobs on the line when they do this stuff, right?
But what confidence that Arthur Blank has in Terry?
Fondnot.
To allow him to make this pick?
I mean, this is wild.
And if you look at the way they picked, and this is when I look back, it actually made a lot more sense.
They don't do things normal in Atlanta.
They took a running back at eight last year.
They took a slow receiver the year before who panned out pretty fucking good if you asked me.
They took a tweener kind of tight end who I'm not going to blame his struggles on him individually.
I think with a better system, with a better coach, with just better shit around him where they actually target him.
I think it'll be better.
They've drafted AJ Terrell.
They've drafted Chris Lindstrom.
Those are their first round picks.
So listen, I trust.
I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here.
Welcome to the Green Light podcast.
Fun draft recap show for you today.
We also have Rashad White.
We start things off a little open from early on Thursday from Chris.
He just joins to talk a couple of new stories from the week.
T. Hendrickson, T. Higgins, and Reggie Bush.
Then we catch up with the fellas at the draft.
We start recording at the Eagles pick at number 22.
Chris making Dr. Fax, Bad Back Backy.
We go through every single one of the first round picks of the 2004 NFL draft,
give our best take on them all,
including the Wild Card, the Falcons,
taking Michael Pennix to back up Kirk Cousins,
or is he going to start?
He can start?
Maybe he starts.
We don't know.
Falcons seem pretty jazz about it.
Some great draft moments.
We talked through him all.
And then at the end of the show, we have Rashad White,
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back,
joins Chris to talk about his great first couple seasons.
in the NFL, meeting at South by Southwest.
We actually hung out with Rashad for a little bit down there in Austin,
playing with Baker Mayfield, playing with Tom Brady for a season,
and how he still stays in touch with former teammate Jaden Daniels.
A wonderful show for you today.
Please enjoy.
We will catch you Tuesday with a full NFL draft recap with our friend Ben Solac.
Stay tuned for that.
Enjoy the weekend.
May your team select every single player you won draft.
It's Friday.
your team turned in their card i don't know who they picked it's thursday for me it's thursday
two p m getting ready for this draft listen if it's comforting i'll tell you you have no idea
how good the the draft pick that your team went with last night is going to be you have no idea
it's a crap shoot i know you feel a certain way this morning but things will change i can guarantee you
Um, there have been, I mean, countless iterations of, uh, bouts of hysteria with fan bases the day after the draft.
And it turns out that, uh, I mean, look like, if I were to look at draft picks that got booed, NFL draft picks that got booed, NFL draft picks that got booed, NFL draft picks that got booed.
Okay.
You'd probably be surprised.
Donovan McNabb.
Eli Manning
Zach Martin
J.J. Watt, dude.
They booed J.J. Watt.
Okay?
Guys a god
in Houston. They booed him.
They booed Ken O'Brien for Christ's sake.
I don't really know what that means.
If that's good or bad. I couldn't tell you honestly.
Booth Daniel Jones,
Bruce Irvin, T.J. Hawkinson.
You booed T.J. Hawkinson.
You're already wrong about that.
So the bottom line is you have no idea.
I have no idea.
You have no idea.
Bo Allen has been at the draft,
be on a lookout for content from Bo.
We sent Bo to the draft.
I told him, let's get weird.
Let's get in the infield with all the fans,
with the people with the adult men with masks and face paint.
That's what I want to see.
We got Bo talking to draft picks.
Bo was talking to neighbors.
He was talking to Latu.
He was talking to all the types of guys yesterday.
So be on lookout for Bo and his correspondence from Detroit.
Okay, so one more reminder.
I don't know who was drafted last night.
It is Thursday, 2 p.m.
We're going to get to our draft coverage very shortly,
followed by an interview from Rashad White.
Rashad White on my fantasy team, total stud.
We'll see if I can nab him this year.
I'm a big fan of his because of what he does in the passing game.
I'm also a big fan of his because of his style of play.
He's like 6-1, 2-30, 2-20, 2-50.
I don't know.
Maybe I'll ask him how much he actually weighs.
But the dude is a big, long back.
And there aren't a lot of them.
And so I think his style of play is fun to watch.
You know, when he gets into those big jump cuts, can cover a lot of ground,
packs a little punch, but he's graceful out of the backfield.
And, you know, one of the things I'll ask him about is how quickly he noticed
that Tom Brady loved him.
because one thing Tom Brady loves is a guy who can catch the ball to the backfield.
And that was his way to get on the field.
Last year, I didn't think they leaned on the run game enough.
I don't think they were doing a good job of it.
And then as the year went on, they started pounding the rock a little more.
He's going to be a good guy to hit your wagon to,
Rochal White coming up later in the show.
But first, before we fast forward to 11 o'clock tonight when the draft is over,
and we have our reflections, I want to talk a little bit about Reggie Bush.
Okay, like it's one of these topics that kind of fell between the cracks, so to speak,
when it comes to the schedule of this podcast.
So I wasn't able to react in real time.
Listen, I asked this on Twitter.
I was like, who's going to zag on this story?
Because there's going to be somebody, a lot of Jason Whitlocks in the replies.
I don't know if he's agged or anything like that.
But this is one of those things, especially considering the climate today, that looks ridiculous
in retrospect.
And that's the way things go a lot of times in life.
Like, we progress.
We figure things out as time.
goes on and a decade
will go by or two decades
will go by and we'll be like how fucking stupid were we
you know playing tickets
$100,000 for Reggie's parents
you know some miscellaneous items
that you know he had to
take care of
over the course of his career at USC
and obviously they were against the rules
like obviously it sucks what happened
Reggie broke the rules that's the important
like Reggie broke the rules knowingly
so that doesn't like they they were doing hand-to-hand payments they were paying cash for things they were
loophole and stuff through and like obviously there's some admission of guilt there and what reggie did
is he violated a very archaic rule right like we look at it now and we're saying that shit's stupid
but at the time there was some skirting of the rules so like reggie did something wrong at the time
whether the rule was appropriate or not um he knowingly broke archaic rules um
They look really dumb now.
And I kind of wonder looking back how different things would be in today's climate.
We lament the Wild West that is the NIL landscape.
Like how different would things be had we done this a little earlier?
You know, if we'd have started to move the needle toward the end of the spectrum of progression
in the early 2000s and the late 90s, especially going into the bowl playoff era,
like there was a lot of change going on in college football we could have chipped away at this thing instead
now you've got like kids holding universities up for 500,000 dollars man like it's a fucking shit
show and I understand like it feels like one of these things where everybody likes the progressive
thing we all want players to get taken care of but almost universally we can all admit that
things are fucked up right now right and I actually think it's a necessary process
like there's no way to do this other than this way now we let it we let it go too long and reggie
is evidence of that like just 20 years ago this was the biggest story in college football this was
the biggest scandal right and things like this go on all the time you know off the books right
i think part of why nick saven has moved on is is hey things have changed you know other other
other kids parents have jobs now right that the university provides other other other
other other other kids get cars now i'm not saying bama was was you know SMU but they definitely
if i had to guess gun to my head we're playing dirty right the landscape's changed it's been a little
bit of an equalizer when it comes to some of the the few programs that had a monopoly on extra shit right
so even if reggie had to give the heisman back like physically he's always been the heisman
trophy winner to me like if you ask me like did reggie bush win a husband he won a husband like the
trophy to me i've got a couple trophies in here i've got like two super bowl trophies they're replicas
i've got a ted hendricks trophy over there got a man of the year trophy somewhere that thing's heavy
as shit but i i don't care about the physical trophies like i've nearly lost the trophies there was a one
year period where i'm ashamed to say i did not know where the man of the year trophy was okay my dad
had it somewhere in safe keeping but the thing that happens between two 80 dd
people when they're coordinating like the protection of said item is we lose track of the item.
So it's not about the fucking trophies.
It's about what you did.
And I think everybody knows what Reggie did.
But this is a good thing, right?
Everybody feels like this trophy physically should be returned to him.
But you don't see him in the Hysman House commercials.
You haven't seen him on the sidelines with sunglasses on a USC game being celebrated and that sort of thing.
Maybe I missed it.
I don't know.
I don't know if part of the punishment was like, hey, you can't be back on the field.
I know he's been at the Coliseum.
I'm pretty sure he's done USC games at Fox.
He's sitting on the sideline.
How surreal must that feel like to be so close to a program physically but feel so far away?
Some of the most fun I had as an athlete was going back to my alma mater in my 20s and my 30s, right?
I'm almost completely washed now, almost 40.
but the first 10, 15 years after you have a great career somewhere, you have a lot of fun going back.
And I do think he got robbed of that experience, right?
You know, the guilt-free, elephant-in-the-room-free, Reggie Bush walks onto the field and everybody cheers.
You know, Reggie Bush is celebrated appropriately.
Reggie Bush, who did so much in that era for college football and for USC, we can, like, we can accept that.
and not tiptoe around it.
Like there's no elephant in the room.
That's the way it should have been.
There's no way to get that experience back for him or for football fans.
Like there's been a weird cloud over Reggie Bush.
And there's a whole window of awesome recognition and relevancy that follows a career like that.
And he missed out on it.
Not saying he faded away into obscurity.
The guy's got a great desk job.
He had a great pro career.
He was the number two pick, played for a long time.
I love Reggie Bush.
I got a lot of respect for him.
But now we can just say, hey, like, there's no asterix.
But the experience, you can't get that back.
And I feel bad for him for that.
You know, I do.
Although he broke a rule, albeit an archaic rule,
he broke it purposefully and covertly.
It's just one of those things.
The times have changed.
Now it looks stupid.
They should have a fucking giant celebration for Reggie Bush next year.
They should have Reggie weekend.
Okay, I'm talking like he can run as many red lights as he wants.
The bars stay open.
and fucking, you know, midnight yell.
They got a midnight push thing.
Reggie Bush out there just push as many people as you want.
He just, there's a line of people.
He's just pushing people under the lights.
People going nuts.
Like, whatever you want, Reggie, for a weekend, you got the keys of the city.
And that city is L.A., you know, and that would be a great weekend.
They should definitely do something big for him next year, and I'm sure they will, right?
Like, get it all back in one weekend, if it's possible.
But I talked about the city being a lot of the city being.
LA from 2002 to 2008 USC went to seven straight BCS games.
Okay, they were rolling.
They had celebrities of practice.
It was L.A.
Everybody loved Pete.
Like, he was real open with the media.
And I do think part of the reason that the NCAA came down on them so hard was kind
of their brand and who they were.
It seemed very open.
When you looked at USC in the early 2000s, you were looking at the future, right?
a little too far into the future for the NCAA when they took five years to uncover this
violation right um and who knows what the butterfly effect would have would have been of this thing
like p. Carroll could have been west coast nick savin right like they were on that track and you know
maybe if he doesn't leave USC we don't have lob we don't have all that stuff so the lane kiffin's
career is different like the whole butterfly effect of this thing i mean there was an assistant coach who
actually sued the NCAA, I think, because of, you know, financial damages.
There's a lot through taking away 30 scholarships, through stripping teams of wins,
through vacating championships.
Maybe the Broncos don't sell their soul for Russ Wilson.
Yeah, you're right.
See if Pete Carroll doesn't go to C.
You're right.
You're right.
You get a little greedy, like a little greedy, but.
Visionist Bronco history here.
But, but yeah, they're also a player in this thing, I suppose.
But like, you know, it's, it's fucking crazy.
Like, all the things would have happened.
And I think that brand that they had, how they had it going, the NCAA kind of resented them for that.
And I do think, like, looking back, this punishment was really harsh and stupid.
And it was like shooting yourself in the foot because how good is USC being good for college football?
Like, you're going to tell me, we don't know for sure that USC wouldn't have been in the playoffs a bunch early in that playoff era.
Like, and then who knows?
Like, who knows what kind of shape the pack 12s in?
I know it's, I'm not trying to make it a hay if, if, if,
Bush didn't get busted doing this thing. The PAC 12 would still exist. I'm not saying that,
but I'm saying you just don't know what USC would have been in the early 2000s and beyond
had they not been docked 30 scholarships and had all these other punishments. That hurts recruiting.
It's a black cloud over the organization. And, you know, I think more than anything that the
punishments were unfair. When you look back at it, I think this is the big thing I take away.
It was like how not only stupid the rule was, but how extra.
the punishment was, how punitive it was, especially relative to some of the things we saw
later on.
Okay.
There was a Miami athletic director, and I'm forgetting his name right now that was the chairman
of the committee that was tasked with doing this investigation, right?
And he said something to the effect of like high profile schools and players get high
profile punishments.
And, you know, he's a real hard line on it.
Like, hey, sorry about it.
Like, this is how the fuck it's going to be.
and you know little did we know at the time i might have the sequencing confused but he's presiding over
a university that's that's in the middle of getting caught up in a scandal with shapiro and that whole
booster situation so when you look at their punishment their punishment was not as severe and then when
you when you draw a parallel with penn state which we're not even talking about the same thing we're talking
about sexual abuse and a Heisman trophy winner who generates millions for his program getting
100K by way of his parents some lodging some fucking plane tickets and up in Happy Valley we're
talking about sexual abuse they had a pretty harsh punishment levied but the difference is that when
they appealed it I think they were able to to have that sentence reduced and USC was not able to
have their sentence reduced. They were treated completely differently. So I'm not some USC fanboy.
I'm an ACC guy. I didn't have a Reggie Bush jersey growing up. I'll never forget where I was
in my now wife Meg's basement watching Vince Young and Reggie Bush and those guys like,
the Bush push and that moment in the Rose Bowl, which wouldn't have been the moment it was without USC,
I mean, those are huge, huge, like kind of tent pole moments for the NCAA and for college football
in an era where things were exploding.
And I just, I just think it's so counterintuitive when you look at it in retrospect
that you would punish and bury, relatively speaking, an organization that was rolling
and objectively very good for your business.
you know like USC is good for business and you you put him in a chokehold and you reign on the
parade of one of the best college football players one of the most story college football players
of all time and in the process robbed him of a you know a pretty fun window of recognition and
and and respect so I hoping they have reggie weekend they bring back like will feral and fucking
snoop dog and we have pete wants to invite jordan peterson's rambling ass he can do that too but
you know like i hope they blow it out for this guy and this is like sports are complicated man
this is what makes it hard to talk about you know there's there's nuance here like at the time
did he break a rule yeah but now it's stupid and generally when things like that happen we try to
restore justice somehow uh we we can't actually rewrite what happened you'll never get
26 year old reggie bush back on the sidelines you know on his by week getting recognized
or that sort of thing.
And that would have been fun,
but you can make it right with Reggie Week, USC.
So hope they do that.
Listen, two things going into the draft
that I think by the time you listen to this
might be a moot point,
but the T. Higgins thing and the T. Hendrickson thing.
I mean, these guys have made a lot of news.
T. Higgins has had a longer run on the news cycle.
I don't think, according to Schefter,
there's been no talks in over a year.
that's absurd. I mean, it's just a reflection of the Bengals being cash strapped and being who they are and trying to prioritize Burrow and Chase and, you know, like maybe, maybe they extend Chase soon and, and maybe they find a trade partner for T. Higgins. But, you know, like I think any team that's interested in working out the details of a contract like that, they're working right now as I speak. You know, it's two o'clock. I can only fly on the wall what deals are being made right now because when,
the Eagles traded for AJ Brown in 2021. There were guys that were working out the contract
right down to the final minutes when the Eagles were on the clock trying to pull that trade
off. So you never know when this thing falls, but, you know, teams that that could have the
cap space and need wide receivers, I'd look at the Chargers, I'd look at the Patriots, I'd
look at the Cardinals, the Colts, you know, the Bills and Ravens have glaring needs, but they're
too up against it. So I would keep an eye on that. I'm sure you did last night. And we'll see
where he ended up, if anywhere.
He might just be back in Cincinnati this year.
The other guy, Trey Hendrickson, one of my favorite plays in the league, obviously.
You know, same deal with Higgins right now.
Any interested teams are working the phones right now.
And I think if you're looking for a rusher and you're thinking about picking a guy in top 15 first round,
it's a no-brainer for me to look at a proven commodity like Trey Hendrickson.
This is a guy that's hungry.
He, I mean, he, he just, he hunts QBs and he's got great handwork.
That's going to, I mean, you're talking about a guy who, if he's not 30 yet, he's approaching 30.
His hand usage, his explosion, those are two things that are going to serve him well in the back half of his career.
So for a guy that's talking about retirement, I think that's a bluff, right?
Like, I don't want to negotiate against my buddy here.
If he retired, that'd be a shame.
He's not going to retire.
And in fact, I would have left that part out, right?
because that kind of hurts your leverage.
But I think most teams know that that's a hollow threat
and that they're going to get a really good football player
who's very hungry if they can make a deal for Trey Hendrickson.
You know, like there's Chicago, right?
Fluse said this offseason, they'd love to have a legit dude opposite, you know, Montez.
That would be as legit as they come.
Sure, you could pick D.N. with the ninth pick or something like that.
But that to me seems a little greedy, right?
Um, if you make a move for Hendrickson, you go wide receiver, you go Oline, ninth pick. Um, you get a cheaper
rusher at nine two. It's up to you. But like, I think Hendrickson is a guaranteed eight to 13 sacks a year.
If he's healthy. And that's going to be the biggest determination you have to make.
Commanders, lions, Titans, Cardinals, Colts also, uh, names that Nolan threw in the hat.
Um, and, uh, you know, like in the same vein that the Ravens and say the, uh, the, the bills would be
a need of a wide receiver but are strapped for cash i think the bills and the falcons could also use him
but uh probably not going to happen so we'll see how that shakes out tonight i think trey hendricksson
is fantastic he should be talked about in the light of some of these really great rushers he's been up there
and i hope he gets gets paid like one here here soon and uh i hope they find him a good landing spot
if he if he's indeed not going to be a Cincinnati bangle that sucks that hendrickson hovered
When you break up the band like that, man, it sucks.
That's a friendship, man.
Like those, when Reader left, I mean, I've been on a great D-line where it broke up one by one.
And, you know, in an offseason, the Luz Reader, Hendrickson talking about moving on, you know,
Hubbard might be there all alone.
And it speaks to Windows in the NFL.
Like, the Bengals have, I don't think they've missed the window because the windows never closed when you have Joe Burrow.
But you miss, you know, an opportunity to jump up.
out the window, jump through the window, and you haven't done it yet, and you were this close,
this is part of the business. So especially when you're the Bengals and you don't spend money
and you're strapped for cash. So here's our draft coverage. We're going to fast forward right now
to post-draft or late in the draft and stick around at the end of the pod for Rashad White.
We'll be back early next week with more. I think we got Ben Solac. So we'll be sorting through
all the chaos once the smoke clears.
early next week. I'll be, I'm not going to tell you where I'll be. Um, not that anybody's looking
for me, but I'm going to be in, in the perfect city for me, uh, this weekend. Me and some of my buddies are
headed to a coastal city on the east coast. Um, it's seedy. There are a lot of bars by the water,
I think. Um, a lot of golf courses. Maybe you could guess. I cannot wait, get through this draft
coverage and then I'll be on my way and I'll see y'all next week here are the boys later
night hey y'all green light has official merch like this hat right here like the one on my
head this dad hat love this hat I'm not even a dad hat guy but this thing fits great this
this hat right here fits great uh we've got hoodies we've got t by the way this hoodie's like
super comfy I mean it's like soft plush it's not the
type of hoodie that's going to get stiff with one wash. And the shirts too, because I'm a big
comfort guy. Okay, you got like this white shirt here. You got the shirt with the logo, the Abbey Road
looking logo with Dr. Fax smoking, presumably a blunt, Kyle carrying Cowboy Reed, making driveling a
basketball, which I've never seen him actually do, and me carrying a football. And then you've got
the black shirt here too with the logo. So stickers, hit the link in the description.
in the video, below the video actually,
and make sure to tag us on social media
showing off your green light merch.
It's quality, quality threads here, okay?
Wouldn't do it any other way.
Yeah, well, if the pick is in, for fuck's sake,
let's get this thing going, huh?
Got to be a point out.
All right, so this is the start of our draft review.
We're watching the Eagles pick.
We'll tell you what we think in real time.
We're going to go back through the first 22 picks
and then the final 10 picks, right?
there's only 10 more.
Or am I, you know, Meg?
That's about right.
We'll review those as they come in.
So here's the Eagles pick number 22.
At the moment, corner's still on the board.
Quinnian Mitchell, Terriot, Arnold,
Kool-Aid McKinstree, Cooper DeGine,
Nate Wiggins.
After they paid,
they paid AJ so he doesn't get upset.
And the best of the bunch,
Ennis Rake Straw, Jr.,
who will let him.
likely be selected on Friday.
Roger Goodale's ambling out on stage because...
I think it was J.C. Lathen picked him up like a child, didn't read the injury report.
The guy's fucking got a back.
Let's see if I can read his lips.
Cooper DeGine.
It'll be the number one selling jersey in the NFL shop next year.
Who's it going to be?
We're waiting on the Chiron.
I like defensive secondary.
There's no reaction.
TV is muted.
with the 22nd pick.
Holy hell, is you reading a PSA?
Jesus Christ, come on, Raj.
We're going to get this show on the road.
It's getting late.
You at home, you already know what happened.
You have an opinion on it.
Can't wait to hear if we have an opinion on it.
Coolie.
Jesus, Roger.
Roger backwards is Rajor.
Better be shouting out taps or something.
I don't wait this long for a pick unless it's for the military.
Oh, Jordan Milana is giving the pick.
In Melbourne, mate.
In front of a bunch of fucking rocks.
You couldn't have picked a better spot?
Look at that construction in the back.
There's three cranes.
He looks great, though.
He's doing great.
Quinaw Mitchell.
Cornerback Toledo.
Okay.
Toledo.
Could have gone anywhere he wanted this past year.
Stayed at Toledo.
That's a guy with character.
I don't need your NIL money.
That's great.
It's a guy with character.
I'm going to play at Toledo.
go in the first round. That's awesome. Good for him. All right. So we're going to go back through the
draft now. What are we doing here? Caleb Williams, number one overall. No surprise. Kyle was as stoked
as a bird around here, threw his arms up, happy as a clam. We didn't have any other thoughts, right?
We didn't, there wasn't another. No, I have no thoughts. We're going to go to the next pick, Reed.
Very few thoughts, yeah. No, I mean, I have thoughts. The thoughts to me are like, why do you
did they always congratulate each other in the draft rooms they knew what the fuck they were doing
for like a month now? And why did it take almost 10 minutes to get the pick? Why does it take so long?
I really think the network's mandate that. For the first pick it has to be mandated. Is it? Yeah.
All right. So I mean like Caleb Williams obviously a very confident guy. I think that's going to
rub some people wrong, but it's also going to, I think it also could earn the respect of his teammates. I
think that's where people don't understand is like we look at a guy. We're like, man, he's confident.
That rubs me wrong. But it helps to be confident.
an NFL locker room. The only thing that fucking matters is can he play football? Does nail polish
on your quarterback scare you? Why? Why are you asking? I haven't heard anything about this.
He had he was wearing nail polish. Really? Yes. When? He had silver nail polish on before he
walked into the dream room. Like for the first time today? Um, no. He's been doing this? Yeah. Are you serious?
Anyways, that concludes our draft coverage. Who told us this week or less? 20,
30, 40 years ago, it was, oh my God, he has a tattoo.
Yeah, no, exactly.
That's what Daniel Jeremiah said.
I thought it was a great point.
And I don't know if it's a good point or not, but it sounded like a good point to me.
We can talk about Rome properly in a minute, but you pair Caleb Williams with Rome O'Donzee at nine.
No question.
Which is awesome.
No question.
And I think also, like, we look at this thing, all these guys are going to be judged equally.
Same standard, very high standard.
First three quarterbacks take him.
The top five picks.
But look at the Delta.
between the situations that Caleb Williams
and even Jaden Daniels walking into and Drake May.
It's the same objective.
It's the same assignment.
Anything less than they talk about it with Caleb Williams,
division championships and, you know, Pro Bowls
or whatever you wanna say it.
Anything less, they're gonna be,
they're gonna be talking about the decision.
And so I just think when you look at Drake May situation,
it is a far cry from what like Caleb Williams
is walking into Rome.
You've got DJ Moore,
You've got a backfield full of studs, I feel like,
and an offensive line that they're going to improve and chip away at.
I'm excited to watch this offense.
I really am.
Seeing him hold the jersey out, you know, you're looking at edits for months now,
like him in a uniform, him in a uniform.
Seeing him hold up that number one jersey, it looked pretty cool.
I was like, Bears fans are going to be hype.
You mentioned Keenan Allen and DeAndre Swift, right?
We didn't even mention that.
Yeah, exactly.
One of us mentioned him.
Good for him.
Whoop in the pie.
Hey on me.
Well, he's here for fuck's sake.
It's after 10 o'clock.
I'm shocked.
Okay, so anyways, you want to take it away with the next one?
Yeah, after the quarterbacks?
I mean, if we're sticking with the quarterbacks,
I think you said it.
Jaden's walking into a better situation than Drake,
whose top target is probably Pop Douglas,
who's not Scary Terry or Jehan Dodson.
Time will tell.
But Pat's stuck at three.
A lot of sticking and picking tonight.
Not a whole lot of trading outside of the Minnesota.
the bike. ESPN was pretty disappointed that we weren't getting the trades.
They kept being like, this could be the, this could be the moment. So we got through, yeah,
Drake may wore a pair of pants with belt loops and no belt and no suspenders.
Did he really? Yeah. Can I just say something before we get on to the non-quarterbacks?
Please.
I feel like I'm dreaming. You turn on the TV and fucking Detroit is cool. Like Detroit's always been
cool. I don't want anybody from Detroit to get mad at me and kick my ass. But I mean like in the,
in the scope of the NFL, like they really.
league they're winning this week they had m&m up there they had like five great recognizable players up
there when's the last time the Detroit Lions could try out five guys that everybody knows who they are
they didn't have to put kairons in them and they're not picking until 29 no i know that's the best news
of all you're still out here partying nice little bounce back for them because they just got a Detroit sign
I don't know if you've seen that went viral no they kind of got like a like a like you know
how Hollywood has a big sign they have like a Detroit one on the side of the road in the side of the
Roe.
It sounds about right.
Yeah.
And a lot of years in the
27.
There's a rapper.
There's a rapper who made like a rap about it.
And it's really funny.
It's really,
really funny.
Yeah.
I don't pay attention to rappers that much,
except for when Max O'Creme comes in town.
All right.
So anyways,
the night started with Roger Goodell saying,
let's go Big D.
And he was like,
he was like,
Yo, M.
Here you go.
So first three picks are chalk.
How did you guys feel about Drake May in New England?
Listen, it's going to be an uphill battle.
It really is, dude.
It just is.
And so, you know, we'll find out if this kid's good.
The cupboard's totally bare.
You know, you don't see a lot of guys walking in a situation even that bad.
When the cupboards bear, usually don't start with quarterback.
No, you don't usually.
But it seems like Jarob Mayo wants to get quarterbacking.
You know what I mean?
You know the guy following Bill Belichick.
You don't think they're going to give you a bunch of time, right?
So those guys, new GM, they never had one before, new head coach, they go QB.
Anyways, four.
Yeah, so the first 14 picks are all offensive players, the first non-quarterback taken,
Marvin Harrison Jr., legacy player.
We saw the graphic on the screen talking about first round picks, the son of their father.
Two of those motherfuckers were sitting on the couch here doing nothing.
They were just totally washed.
How do you like that fit with Kyler?
I love the fit.
I'll tell you, how many wide receivers get picked in top five and get to go into a situation with a quarterback that's thought of?
I know people are down on Kyler, but I think he's very talented.
And I think the new regime got more out of him last year from a discipline standpoint than the last one.
How many wide receivers get to walk into a room like that?
There's really not a lot.
I mean, if somebody has the answer at home, you know, certainly tweet us or whatever.
But I can't think of a lot of guys that get picked this high, generational talent.
type wide receivers that walk in a room that quite frankly you're going to have the pressure off
you from the many you walk in door they run the football right you know that's that's pew pew pew
pew they weren't pew pew in last year and i think that was part of the tension if there was any with
kiler and the new scheme was like he had they put the handcuffs on him a little bit where he he wasn't
able to improvise the way he was the year before but if he settles into this thing and he realizes
that this takes pressure off him it's going to take pressure off the young rider's
receiver. They run the football. Like respectfully as can be, I've not heard of their second wide
receiver in Arizona. Well, it was like Rondell Moore. I love Dorch. He's a guy called Michael Wilson.
Michael Wilson came on, dude. Michael Wilson is a player. Third rounder out of Stanford last year.
Michael Wilson's a player. He was just up and down. Now that was the biggest complaint on Michael
Wilson. He'd go off and then, uh, and then kind of come back down there. So they got a great
tie down and I'll tell you, I'm going to tell you something they can do with Michael Wilson.
Michael Wilson blocks his ass off.
So, you know, it like fits into who they are.
And I'm sure Marvin Harrison, Jr., with his kind of like background,
he's going to be a hard worker.
He's going to block.
He's going to get his hands dirty.
Hollow man, Howie Long, because Marvin Harrison, Jr.
had a necklace on with him and his dad.
And I didn't have a necklace for my dad.
And I'm sorry.
I just want to take a minute.
Two chances.
Yeah, he was 0 for two on kids fucking putting him on on iced out necklace.
You all made the graphic, though.
You all made the graphic, though.
We didn't make the graphic.
We made the graphic.
So first big surprise, first decent size surprise, Joe Alt, friend of the program, goes to the Chargers at 5.
Feels like a Harbaugh pick.
It did.
That was the first thing we said was like, man, like just.
And listen, there was immediately like, oh, Tennessee is probably mad.
But maybe Tennessee is like us and thinks there's maybe a couple tackles you could kind of take.
And it's hard to separate one from many of them.
But you really like the guy from Bay.
a lathe them and that's who that's who tennessee ended up with maybe they're happy at the end of the day
that the charges went with all all not lathe them probably the deepest position and how often do you
you get the top guy out of position right not often right exactly high bus rate i do think all is he's safe
safe me at the blackjack table say a six safe safe safe but no i mean like i do think he's gonna play a long
time i do think there are guys who are more talented than him in this draft well and that's okay you
protect justin herbert pretty simple no question and you know you add him to slater i don't know if he's
got to switch sides joe alt said he could play either side yeah so in interview but i would expect him
to play him at left what they have to decide those tray pipkins started the last two at right tackle
yep so what are they going to move him inside is he good enough to do that uh he signed a three year 20
almost 22 million dollar deal i'm sure they signed him knowing that he could slide
Yeah.
Okay, we've got to trade in real time.
The Cowboys are trading.
We're all the way at the 24th pick in the draft.
So almost fucking midnight.
Detroit's coming up.
Detroit is moving up.
DeGine, maybe.
They got to get this DeGine kid.
Talk about another jersey that would sell like hotcakes.
A white corner in Detroit.
Another one that might sell well.
Macon might grab it.
Neighbors to the Giants at six.
How you feeling?
I love it.
Not the most talented wide receiver room.
It's a bit of a start over for the Giants.
And had they repeated the Daniel Jones mistake with the quarterback,
I think you're looking at a, it's a lottery pick for another rebuild.
You believe in Daniel?
No.
Okay.
So, it's better be in purgatory than hell.
If you don't believe in him, like how does picking a wide receiver?
darts at any of the non-top three guys in this draft that's that and that's a valid point now say
you were picking one you're going to go with Caleb right sure you know we we made that that calculus
with justin fields i would have said hey keep them both or you know i was brave enough to say keep
just and we'll see how that plays out but like you know if you were the giants and you got daniel
jones i don't think he has the upside where you're keeping them if you're picking one but to your
point i totally get stand and pat you know and and this is a guy that completely the completely
play inside and out. So, you know, you immediately... Six feet tall, 200 pounds. Jamar Chase is the
comp. Yep. It's a pretty good comp. I mean, the Giants were at six when they took Daniel Jones.
They passed on a lot of really good players. So we mentioned the Titans at seven taking J.C.
Latham. You know, they might have wanted Joe Alt. Who knows, maybe they're great on Latham was the highest.
It feels like a solid pick. Virginia went three and O against Daniel Jones. Daniel Jones through nine
picks against Virginia to three touchdowns.
Okay?
Yeah.
I'd like to see if that holds up.
We could like compare that to some other like quarterbacks.
Yeah.
Out of the ACC.
Virginia beat Drake May this year.
You know what I loved about Latham was he hugged the shit out of Goodell?
He's had the most swag so far.
Oh, buddy, he looked great in his suit.
Also like an impressive looking guy in his suit.
Bo Allen got to talk to him on the on the red carpet there.
and the dude's massive.
I think the physicality.
He's talking about his arm length.
To be built the way he's built.
You know,
the guy from Penn State,
Fashano,
who we're going to talk about in a little bit,
you know,
I was there on the sideline for a game.
And he's built like one of those vintage tackles.
Like he's just long.
Like everything about him is long.
He's got that like basketball look about him,
but he's big enough to play the position.
This guy doesn't look like a basketball player,
Latham.
Latham looks like a guy that clears motherfuckers out of a room, dude.
He looks like he's wearing a tight black t-shirt outside of a nightclub.
All right.
So that's the kind of guy I want road grading in the run game.
And I'm excited for the Titans.
I think this is really good.
Everything they're doing seems to be, hey, we believe in this quarterback, right?
You know, the owner, we talked about this a couple times when they made the new hire.
She called the quarterback out individually.
We've got an exciting young quarterback.
They add pieces at wide receiver.
in the secondary. I think they've crushed it this offseason. And to add a tackle, they're putting
their money where their mouth is. They're saying, let's see if this guy's got it. Speaking of believing
in your quarterback, Falcons shock everybody taking Michael Pennix Jr. at eight. Kurt Cousins didn't
know about it until they were on the clock. Well, neither did the Vikings. They didn't know about it
until, you know, the press conference, right? The tampering bullshit. Are you guys surprised what Atlanta did,
though? Yes, dude. I'm surprised.
So surprised that I like it.
I do too.
That's what I'm saying.
And I'm like trying to talk myself into it.
All right,
let's work this out in the bad column.
If we're saying this is the Packers model,
which I like in the bad column,
somebody might say,
well,
Kirk's on a four-year deal.
That doesn't bother me as much as these factors.
Penix would be-
Just so I'm clear.
Is Kirk, Brett,
Favreth in this scenario?
Or Aaron Rogers.
Something like that.
Okay.
Or Rogers to love to,
but the whole.
thing for me is you know you've got a guy coming off in Achilles who's 36 years old and you had a guy
who's got a bunch of injuries right two ACL and a guy that's going to be if you project the
Jordan love thing he'll be like 27 when that thing happens 24 in two weeks yep and you know what maybe
you are doing something revolutionary here you're planning for the back nine right you're saying hey
you know we might spend a pick on a guy at eight who might give us five good years in college basketball
while they say get old and stay old so i've not heard that yeah so so the bottom line is if this
works out the bridge to this working out is not that fucking long dude it's just it's just a big leap right
it's just like people are putting their jobs on the line when they do this stuff right but what
what what what confidence that arthur blank has and tarry fond not to make to make this this pick
i mean this is this wild and if you look at
if you look at the way they picked and this is when i look back it actually made a lot more sense
they don't do things normal in alana they took a running back at eight last year they took a slow
receiver the year before who panned out pretty fucking good if you asked me they took a tweener kind of tight end
who i'm not going to blame his struggles on him individually i think with a better system with a better
coach with just better shit around him where they actually target him i think it'll be better they've they've
drafted a j terell they've drafted chris linsstrom those are their first round picks so listen i trust i
you know i'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt here it's a big risk i'll get him the
cousins you give them the benefit of the doubt are you a little frustrated i'm probably frustrated
but this is how the rest of the league lives quarterback they didn't tell me they're going to draft
derrick barnett did you see the video you know what i mean it but nobody fucking cares because i'm a
defensive end and I'm a, you know, I'm a rotational end at the end of my career.
Quarterbacks to get a lot of attention.
It's like the Russell Wilson thing.
You go to Pittsburgh.
Tough shit.
That's how most of the NFL lives is you don't know how secure your job is when you sign
your contract.
Have you seen the video blank looking like he didn't?
He did not.
He had a kind of confrontational conversation with their GM.
Yes.
Yeah, but I think that also could be taken out of context.
They're not going to do that in the draft room.
It could have been taken.
Yeah, I think it was taking out of contact.
But just the timing of it, that looks kind of crazy.
And another thing, say Jordan Love to the people that say, hey, you can't pick a quarterback
at 10 that you're not going to play for two years.
Say Jordan Love was the eighth picking the draft.
Okay?
So?
Yeah.
You'd be fucking fine with that because the one, the reason the Packers were in the playoffs
and beat the Cowboys this year is you guys are Jordan Love.
So, so, you know, like it's hindsight.
However that, if this guy's an NFL quarterback, you will not be sorry.
And I have a saw spot for Michael Penix,
and I feel like football fans are all the same way
where they're rooting for this guy, so we'll see.
Well, it's the domino that leads to the funniest pick
of the draft at 12, which we'll get to with the cowboy.
We spoke on O'Dunzee at 9 to the Bears.
We like that, and then we had to trade.
Vikings move up, surrender some draft capital to the Jets
to go to 10 and pick J.J. McCarthy.
Okay.
How we're feeling.
J.J. McCarthy, Kevin O'Connell, Sam Darnold.
Best situation for a quarterback to go into by far.
Justin Jefferson with O'Connell.
Yeah.
How fucking, I don't, Drake May is the perfect quarterback
that the internet's going to be like stop caping for Drake May, right?
But I'm already starting because I'm looking at these other quarterbacks,
man, they got these great setups.
I'm happy for these guys.
J.J. McCarthy, getting to work with Kevin O'Connell.
Like, we're obsessed with that dude.
We think he's awesome.
So you've got a number one wide receiver.
And I don't just mean number one receiver.
I mean probably the best receiver in the game.
You've got a great tight end.
Didn't they add?
Aaron Jones?
You have bookend tackles.
You add Aaron Jones.
You've got security.
So if Sam Darnold, who I think has some gas left in the tank, if you want to play him
for a little bit, you can get the sequencing right?
I think this is really great.
Again, it all comes down to can the fucking quarterback play.
If the quarterback can play, I mean,
Just a little bit, because look at Minnesota last year.
We watched them go toe to toe with Detroit multiple times with backups, dude.
If you can throw the ball a little bit, you're going to run that offense well.
And I think JJ throws the ball really well in the intermediate area of the field.
He's not going to wow you, but I do think he's a guy who can get it where he needs to go underneath and 10 to 20 yards down the field.
And the Vikings moved again, got Dallas Turner.
It feels a little bit like C.J. Stroud, Will Anderson.
in light, they went and got their quarterback
and then a guy on defense. Well, it's interesting
and those two teams have had a little bit of
interplay, but like you're also looking at
probably they end up
with Grenard right up in Minnesota.
They send their
defensive end hunter down to Houston.
And honestly, I look at
Turner and I'll admit
I'm not jumping out of the gym for him, but
impressive kid, long guy,
guy that can, he's really twitchy.
That's kind of the
the guy they just lost to Houston.
Costly mortgage for the Vikings, though,
no second, third, or fourth round pick next season.
I bet you,
I wonder what that says about next year's draft.
I'm sure there's a calculus there.
Relative value of drafts should be considered for sure.
Well,
and the quarterbacks we're talking about next year are right now.
Shador Sanders.
And Beck.
Shit like that.
Beck.
Yeah.
Shador can only go to a couple places,
according to his dad, right?
Oh, well, where did O'Con?
Yeah.
Where did O'Connell come from?
Anybody?
L.A.
L.A.
Okay.
Fuck them picks.
Yeah, right.
So, you know, the run-on fuck-them picks has begun maybe in Minnesota.
I don't know.
Yeah.
So anyways, we got the Jets now.
Jets took offensive tackle.
Alufu Fashana.
I like the guy.
Okay?
No, no, no.
I like the guy.
Yes, I'm friends with Marcus Hagan's and Anthony Poindexter,
two of the best coaches in the entire fucking country,
who invited me up to Happy Valley,
gracious enough to host me.
in that awesome city.
And I got to stand right next to this big son bitch.
He is a fucking prototypical NFL tackle looking dude.
Now, is he going to play like a football player?
You know, like he's just got a lot of skill.
I want to see him play physical.
And I think, honestly, with the building he's walking into,
this is a just in case I have my job in a couple years pick for the Jets.
Because if you were thinking win now,
you would have thought go get like a Brock Bowers type thing right like like let's just win now
but they are picking like they're still going to have their jobs in a couple years which i like because
i like joe douglas i want to have his job because tackles can take a year or two and if this kid
can turn into what i think he can he can be a guy that you're like okay maybe i fucked up the louisville
pick on beckton because injuries and that sort of thing there's a lot of pressure on him to get this one
right you don't want to go over two there right tyron smith and morgan moses both
33 years old but nice nice couple of tackles there in guard too i believe it's great to have some
time man you know as as a rookie he's also informed everyone that his last name is fashionu yep not
fashano there we go fashion so that's important read i can't i can't remember what happened at 12 can you
remind me bo nicks which uh at first it was a little questionable but i've come around because
the headline is fucking funny to me the headline is you think he's
hot. Yeah, he is. You guys are picking the worst. You think he's hot. He's picking the worst picture.
The NFL's picking the worst picture. The guy looks like a guy used to lifeguard in 03.
You want to tell me. No, bro. A hot dude. A hot dude. So anyways, you fucking, listen,
I don't usually get involved in this stuff. Bo Neck's not a hot person. Zach Wilson,
you can tell me he's hot. Zach Wilson, not a hot person. Now, Zach Wilson's kind of hot. You guys are
fucking weird. All right. So here we're in Nucci. So here we go.
Hot in my head pictures.
Here we go.
Here we go.
Listen, Quinn Ewers now.
That's a handsome devil.
Yeah, there you go.
So the Broncos, I said it before they pick bonecks.
What I say to you read?
I can hear you doing what for the next couple of years.
Cussing him.
Just cussing him.
Just cussing him.
Give him an old-fashioned dog cuss.
Every 4 p.m. slot, we're sitting up there watching three games at a time.
I'm betting them all.
I'm on the other side of the Broncos.
and reads pacing around the room cussing out bow necks that is the future for the next three years
now i actually am excited about the pick for you honestly i really am because sean peyton thinks
he feels just as strongly about the time that he should have picked patrick mahomes damn right you
know what story i love more than any story in the NFL you should have seen when i almost pick that guy
the should it could is yep that is the fucking best story in the league and sean payton did it again
with the hey this is how i felt about patrick mahomes when i almost took him this is what if you remember
when we had him on he told us that he had a higher grade on brady than anybody else in the hall room
yes dude but what if he has receipts for all this stuff i'd love to see him i'm not calling him a liar
i'm just saying everybody's got this story you know but that's the thing you have a lot of thoughts
about a lot of prospects as you go to the draft you could be like man i love that guy maybe you had a
phase with the guy and then you decided
that somebody else was better but you
your confirmation bias
your hindsight tells you oh I loved
him he was number one but I do think
this could be this could be good for you guys
man like honestly I'm not even fucking
around now no it's going to be good
at first I was nervous
12 overall right
this year that's right
that's the year in the pick
and we've had 12
quarterbacks since Peyton
12 12 that's what that's the letter
Yeah, that's what I have to look at.
Makes sense.
You are clinging to this damn Sean Payton thing.
12, 12.
Not only did you not need to have Bo Nix,
you could have stuck the Raiders with Bo Nix.
Yeah.
But look what we did.
That's a lot of hair product in that fucking room now, too.
Yeah.
I mean, honestly, Zach Wilson and Bo Nix are not dissimilar.
Can we talk about his draft room?
Is Bo Nix's draft party?
Oh, my God.
I couldn't comment on it in the way that I wanted to.
Why not?
Well, I didn't even say, man, like, it's just a lot of fucking white people in there, dude.
It's like, there was just one brother in there, man.
I was like, what the fuck is this about?
It looked like this.
And everybody was dressed like it was like back in the day.
It was like kind of fucked up, dude.
It looks like a new scene of get out.
Yeah, it was like.
Now, I know Bo Nix is cool.
He went to high school with Kool-Aid McKinstree, dude.
We just interviewed him.
They were their boys, man.
He said their boys.
But that was just a lot of.
It's funny.
Now thinking about that draft room, it was like, it was like they had a, it was like they had a
Snapchat filter on them.
Yeah, it was crazy, dude.
Like an old-fashioned filter.
Hey, and Joe Walt's draft room,
were they at a funeral?
I mean, that's my homie now
because he's been on the show.
But a lot of people in like black
and, you know, just a lot of people
looking sad, dude.
The Eagles War room.
The Eagles War room.
The Eagles War room.
They looked like they came from a funeral.
No, they look like they're working at the S&P 500.
A mandated uniform for draft night?
No way.
Everybody was in a charcoal.
It's not mandated.
They just all showed up that way.
Dude, a white buttoned out with no tie.
They all just, they moved the same.
They looked ridiculous.
There was a, there was a female in there.
She had the same thing on.
Female.
There was a,
you can say woman.
I can say female.
I can say woman.
You can say a woman.
Gail.
It's coming back around.
You guys say gal.
No words coming back around, woman.
Congrats.
All right.
So at 13, the Raiders.
Bro.
The Raiders.
Stanford, Steve's favorite, Brock Bowers.
Might see a lot of 12 persons.
Might see a lot of 13 person.
No, pick 13.
They got any more tight ends over there?
It's going to be fucking ace all day, dude.
It's going to be big wing, small wing, little wing,
Jimmy Hendricks.
They're going to have a package called Jimmy Hendricks.
It's going to be a bunch of small wings.
It'll be big motherfuckers all over the place there.
I love it, dude.
The two winningest Cockland Award winners are Michael Mayer and Brock Bowers.
Yo, hey, how bad is Stanford Seve going to simp for a sideline pass in Vegas next year?
so he can get a picture with both those guys.
Titans always open.
Yeah, but I like the pick.
I think Pierce just said, fuck it, best available.
And you know what?
When you've had a...
He woke up last year and said,
holy shit, I'm an NFL head coach.
It just like happened, right?
And he's talked openly about that.
And he's been like, man, like,
there's a lot of pressure on me.
I think sometimes just pick a great fucking player.
It's the best thing you can do.
It sounds easier and said than done,
but people get so worried about fit
and this sort of thing, but pick the best available football player you can.
It's good for your job security.
It's good for your team.
This just in.
What?
Quote from Jim Harbaugh.
What?
Head coach, L.A. Chargers.
I know the question is going to come up about weapons.
We look at offensive linemen as weapons.
Harbaugh, most Harbaugh quote ever.
Harbaugh's like the guy that disarms people on the internet
has been getting flame for three years with the black gloves.
And you know the shit that doesn't work.
But he's like, try this.
It's like, Harbaugh's got no gun, dude.
He's got a knife in a gunfight.
He's in the AFC West, dude.
There's the Kansas City Chiefs.
How many years are going to take to load up enough weapons to beat them?
Fuck.
We have a little musical interlude now before the Bucks pick.
We've missed Brian Thomas, wide receiver LSU, Terry on Arnold, corner, Alabama, to Detroit,
Jordan Morgan, tackle Arizona to Green Bay.
I love the fact that Detroit's like, yep, we have an open wound.
Let's get a bandage on.
on it dude like our secondary is a dumpster fire so good Detroit one Saints at 14 went with
Talies Fugga that's Kyle's favorite player it is draft I think I have a little T-Rex arm
he's up high for you right I really like him I do know I like him too I don't worry about the arm
thing little T-Rex are but uh Jeremiah said he didn't have trouble with anybody no his
arms just measure an inch or two short and everybody else he just likes to play in a phone
boo. Yeah. He's got tiny hands. All right. So, uh, and then we get the first defensive player
taken Latu to the Colts, giving them a pretty mean defensive line. Listen, they're cleaning up on the,
well, I'll just say this, but the Saints, they're cleaning up for that penning pick. You know,
they got to go get a physical guy. They want a physical guy. The pending thing didn't work out.
Latu, one of our favorite players in draft. It felt like his time went on, it became everybody's
favorite player in the draft. And if you rush the passer and you watch this guy, you're like, man,
Like somebody taught him how to pass rush at some point.
You know what I mean?
Like it's different than watching some of these guys who are like high ceiling.
Like I watched the guy from Texas Tech get picked last year and fuck I whiffed on that thing.
I thought Tyree was going to be really good.
And maybe he still is.
But with guys like that, you're projecting upside.
But the guy that glat to him, I'm like, if his neck can just be okay, I'm pretty sure he's going to be able to get buckets.
Do you think the medically retired thing?
He was medically retired by the coaches by the doctors at Washington.
Are you hurt or are you injured?
became a bit of a plus for them like if NFL teams cleared them yeah hey I was medically
retired from football and I came back I'm going to be a first rounder yeah dude some intangibles
with the guy I really like his we talk about this I said this with DJ the other day
way I think about pass rushing is the snap starts there's five doors and the doors are going
to open in some sequence in some random sequence and you got to know which one to run through
in a split second right and that's your menu of pass rush moves I really
really do believe. Some guys just run for the same door the whole game. When it's open, they get a big rush.
Yeah. This guy's going to run through the right door every time. He's not going to get home
every time, but to me, he's a feel rusher. And that's why I really like him. In 4, 6, 440. I know he's
not going to be off and running 40 yards at a time. No. Athletic guy. Yeah, athletic dude.
And then at 16, we got the only defensive tackle taken Byron Murphy out of Texas. Looks like a beast
to me. Buddy, one of my favorite players in the draft, one of my favorite fits in the draft.
Gucci polo shirt.
Yeah.
And talk about you want some new pictures up there in the halls in Seattle, right?
The L-O-B's gone.
McDonald said, fuck these guys.
Well, this guy might end up on one of those pictures, man,
because I really do think not only is he a really, really good sound player,
but he's, I didn't watch all the positions this year.
But in watching the tackles, I didn't think there was a bigger delta, you know, from one to two.
I mean, he really was a force for them.
And yeah, he's got short arms.
Okay, Bougar did a great job
mentioning that there were other guys
that have short arms that have had success inside
and I'll say this, the fit part
is going to drive this thing.
Matabike, same thing, right?
He's going to be used the same way
and McDonald
knows how to dial up pressure.
He's not going to need to always manufacture
with guys like this.
And then at 17, the Vikings
traded up
with the Jaguars.
Jaguars trade down to get their man
Brian Thomas at wide.
receiver. What do we think of Dallas Turner
to edge out of Alabama? I could be talked
into this guy. By the way, I just, I really like this
Missouri cat. Remember we talked about him?
Yeah, Darrys. He just got picked by the Cardinals. He could have
gone way higher actually. Yeah, he's a little bit
stiff, but man, he's physical
and he is big dude. It looks like clowny a little bit.
He's big, bro. Can play inside
and out. Yep. So we like
that. We got Dallas
Turner to the Vikings at 17.
Okay, Dallas Turner. I mean,
maybe a little high-hipped. He is high-hipped.
That's the thing, dude. You've heard me say,
50 times but you know else was high hip was Daniel hunter and the motherfucker gets buckets
with the best of them and and honestly i mean like long striders they have high ceilings man
you know so i i totally understand the pick uh we'll see how he shakes out they're just basically
replacing hunter with the cheaper talent right right and another understandable pick at 18 Bengals
decided to protect burrow with amarius mims is it understand i understand but is it
because they have two tackles on the roster right now.
Well, Trent Brown's only in a one year.
Or one year deal.
Yeah, so he'll be done after.
He was on a two year.
But they're all six eight.
They're all six eight beasts.
Well, they got a bunch of big guys, but you can play, you can play Mims inside while he gets ready
to roll.
You could, you could just develop him.
He's very raw.
I think this speaks to how raw he is.
It also speaks to the Bengals having a luxury of doing this, right?
Of saying like, hey, we want to protect this guy and we're going to develop him.
and we might not see our first round pick play this first year.
And Burroughs timeline, unlike a lot of players,
isn't the next two seasons.
Exactly.
15 seasons.
Exactly.
Exactly.
And then at 19, we get the Rams with Jared Verse out of Florida State,
guy we saw a lot in the ACC.
Yep.
And by a lot, maybe not once.
Yeah.
We didn't see him, actually.
But we watched him.
We watched him.
I like the guy, man.
Like, honestly,
not dissimilar.
to me coming out, but a little bit like different frame in that he can win with power.
He's got his hips are a little stiff.
Like he's not going to be a natural like edge bender, right?
So he's going to have to win off power.
And a guy honestly, I think it's a lot cleaner comp.
I'm not making that comp.
The guy, I just identify with a guy that might not be able to burn around the edge.
He's going to have to use his levers, the long arms, you know, that type of thing.
If he can learn a swipe, if he can learn some of the, the mechanics that get your hips turned a little bit better with your hands,
Like when I got a league, Leonard Little taught me a swipe.
I did not know how to use a swipe.
I was doing it in college, but I wasn't thinking about it.
The way you need to think about some of this handwork is it's a way to torque your body and force your hip to turn.
And he's not a natural hip turn guy.
So honestly, a guy I thought about was Trent Cole.
And I don't mean this is like he's going to be Trent Cole.
But Trent Cole had tremendous lateral quickness and power.
And Trent Cole wasn't necessarily a guy was going to get six inches off the ground at nine.
yards and bend the corner and run a hoop. He could do that, but everything he did was off of power.
And I think Jared Verst can be that same guy, play chicken type guy, very last second, skinny or
surface and get a win. And now one of the really young good cores of defensive linemen,
Kobe Turner and Byron Young, along with Jared Verst. Dude, that's huge. And the Byron Young guy,
like, he can run better and he can rush, in my opinion. You know, as far as, like, he can really
run and burn the edge and just like he can chase people down in the open field this guy's going to
win power you can run a lot of high high low concepts off that and you have a guy you know inside
you know this is the first time or maybe second time in 12 years of less needs drafted that they
haven't had a first you know their first round pick be affected by a trade one way or another so standing
pat and saying okay we got a pick and we're going to stand pat that's pretty rare for him some people
thought they might go up and get Bowers or Byrne Murphy, but they stay where they are and they pick
a rush.
Overall, way less trades in the first round than we thought.
We got to see our friend Cam Hayward, Walter Payton Man of the Year, announced the Steelers
pick, Troy Fattanoo.
They went for a guard.
Which makes a lot of sense.
You pair him up with Broder Jones, who, listen, this guy, I'm a fan of this kid because he can play
all over the line.
And you just don't understand how big a, I mean, like, you might, but like, that is a huge
skill to have at the next level. There are always guys up front injured and having a guard down
and not having anybody can kick in the guard or having a tackle down and not having that guard
who can kick out to tackle and have that unorthodox approach to it but be really effective.
That can be so valuable, man. You talk about it's a quarterback-driven league. It's not just about
having the best players. It's about having guys that can plug in and play a lot of positions.
So adding him to that O-line is going to be a good thing.
second year in a row that the Steelers
was taking an offensive lineman
in the first round. Yeah, well, they liked what they saw
in Broderick, and I don't blame them.
And then the Dolphins got
Chop Robinson out of Penn State. Who?
I like this kid, man.
I like this kid. I like this kid.
I mean, somebody knows more about him
than me in the room, but...
So, at first
when I saw Chop, you know,
in person, I was like,
he's not huge, right?
he's not huge but his measurables were we're fine like and he ran what a four five something like that
six three two fifty four and he ran a four four eight here's my wonder with him when he weighed in at
two fifty four i wait in at two seventy two twenty two tony sperano the late great with his sunglasses
and the whole thing i walk in there he's like how many fucking bottles of water you've been chugging
you know because he knows your game in the system try to make weight and that sort of thing like i was
265 but you try to eat get get food in your stomach and try to drink a bunch of water you walk in
there hydrated king and they're like man this guy's huge i wonder what chop weighs when he wakes up in the
morning rolling out of bed 250 is is the word i'm hearing if he's 250 i think he's got a big enough
frame where he can add five seven pounds but more than anything that guy might be quick enough
that he can play to his strengths and not have to anchor the way that some guys do i mean he's so lightning
quick he's got a multitude of moves excited to watch him play plays hard right now we're back to where
we started the eagles taking plenty on mitchell out of toledo which we liked we didn't comment on
the a j brown extension how we feeling about the great guys that fucking good pam whatever he wants
it's it's it's simpler that way see tennessee right yeah okay they're still kicking themselves over
that trade. They're throwing Calvin Ridley at it. They're throwing Traylon Burks at it. Just pay the
fucking guy. So, good deal. I wish we could see the green room, the at home reactions before we
pick the player. You learn a lot about these guys the way they react to being picked. To being
picked. Guy who carried himself the best out of any of these cats so far, Roma Dunezay. He did great.
He's like doing quick thank yous to people in the Green Moon War congratulating.
He's...
These Pack 12 guys, I'll give you another one.
Latu.
He's going to be, you know...
Because Latu was dapping up every Pac-12 guy.
But what about his haircut?
He looked like Julius Caesar.
He's got a great hairline, dude.
The hairline is unquestioned.
What was the Rome quote they had on the draft?
Mel Khyber said, Rome will burn you.
Supposedly, this is from my dad.
Daniel Jeremiah when the final quarterback was taking quoted Rambo and he said they're all gone sir
I was like I was like a slightly different context but all right so we've got so we've got
jaguars take Brian Thomas Jr. after trading down a little bit. Okay okay. Fill the gap left from
Calvin really guys it's almost midnight so we're going to be rushing through these last 10 here
because I got to go to let's just go through these last few years that city I was talking about tomorrow
for Detroit got Terry and Arnold which you know they needed a great great makes a ton of sense
It's Packers get a tackle Jordan Morgan out of Arizona.
Chiefs are going to draft a running back.
I'm just joking.
I think that's right where they picked Clyde.
And then we got the center out of Duke, Barton, went high-like Barton.
And he can play any position.
Good player.
Barden, Hall of Fame.
Wow.
You heard it here, 1135 p.m.
And then we only know two other picks.
We got Darius Robinson, the edge from Missouri to the Cardinals.
which I think you like.
Yeah, I like that kid, man.
I really do.
And then what just happened on the TV?
The burner.
Xavier Worthy, here we go.
Patrick Mahomes got some fast guys to throw to
and I'm not talking about fast drivers.
I'm talking about Xavier Worthy
from the state of Texas.
And nobody cares about Dallas, Baltimore,
San Francisco, so I think we might be done.
What are you guys wowing me?
Like, you don't know what the fuck happened.
His number one wide receiver
who was like a goddamn, he was like a monk the first year.
You didn't hear shit from him.
You were like, man, this guy's got his head on straight.
Like, I'm going to do 140 in broad daylight in broad daylight.
Oh, yeah.
In Dallas, Texas.
I'm going to get out of the car and walk away.
Like nothing's going to happen to me, bro.
Like after an accident, I'm sorry.
I felt bad for Patrick Mahomes when that happened, man.
After everything he got, we went through last year, the guy, they were dropping the balls
in the field.
And then where she rice dropped the ball off the field.
Hopefully this kid's good, man, because it's better for the league when,
when Kansas City.
Because here's another thing with Kansas City.
their defense is not going to be as good as they were.
Willie Gay,
Legerious Sneed,
two real, like, catalysts for that defense or elsewhere.
And so they're going to have to pick it up and score some points.
They won some games last year that put them in a position to win the whole thing
because they were holding teams of 20, 23 points, that sort of thing.
So they got to score.
Got to stretch the field.
Something tells me Jerry goes with Cooper DeGene right here.
Oh.
Are you reading the website?
No.
Really good job not tipping picks, guys.
Hey guys, before getting to Rashad White, did you see this?
November 1st, Florida, Atlantic versus South Florida will be played in the Atlantic Ocean.
Well, not technically aboard an aircraft carrier, which is the first.
I assumed that was fake when Nate sent it.
Is that real?
I hope it's real.
You know what?
I'd like to do one segment a week where we just pull some shit that might be fake and go with it and just get excited.
because this is like if this isn't fake it's awesome everything college football one is just the
type of aggregator that Nate Collins would fall for and put in the group text guys if this is
true it's big truly you hear big if true a lot this is truly big if true the field would have to be
really tight on it like you wouldn't have much sideline to work with let's pull a couple of those bad boys
up together yeah there you know you have to have like that would be where the stands are like aircraft
carrier two and three would have the stand that's exactly right and you can have a sweet uh skybox skybox suite
in the tower yeah that gets buzzed all the time you have a little armada like uh like a lake of the ozarks
and everybody ties up together you tie up together um i'm pretty sure i don't like it at all you don't like
you're telling no you're telling our enemies that one of our aircraft carriers like out of commission on a
certain date giving away too much information yeah kim jang just bets the under and then nukes the aircraft carrier in the
second quarter.
Bro, that would be terrible.
Florida Atlantic and South Florida are really important to college football.
All right.
I remember they had the Michigan State UNC game.
Speaking of war, guys, I had to teach my son what war was yesterday.
What?
Probably is it good, boy, is that what you did?
I'll tell you what prompted that real quick.
I don't remember, but he asked me if there's any wars going on right now.
I'm like, yeah, a couple.
And he's like, yeah, are we going to do any wars?
And I'm like, ah, I hope not, you know, but sometimes everybody just starts doing war at the same time.
And I don't know, man, but I said, you know, the thing about here is we got the Atlantic Ocean and we got the Pacific Ocean.
We are geographically in a pretty good spot.
So we fight most of our wars on the road.
We play road games.
We wear white a lot.
And, you know, Canada and Mexico, they're not really.
end of war you know cartels that's another deal and he he was like what's the cartel and i was like
let me let's stick to war and he was like uh he was like so like have we ever lost a war and i said uh
yeah we've lost wars before i was like this was war called vietnam took fucking forever i don't even
know what we were there about and uh really fucked up a whole generation of people and the whole thing
and i'm kind of like i'm kind of giving him and uh he's like man i thought wars were
happened like two minutes.
And I said, no, they take a long time.
And he goes, so let me ask you this.
He said, if we do a war with Brazil and we lose, do we have to speak Brazil?
Sort of.
I said, I don't know, man.
I don't know Vietnamese.
And they kicked our ass.
So anyways.
I wish you would have asked your dad if we had lost a war.
So your dad could have shown him Deer Hunter for three.
Oh, God, dude.
There's a lot of tough conversations when you guys have kids one day.
The death talk, there's the sex talk, which hasn't happened yet.
And then there's the war talk, which I didn't even have on my bingo card.
So do we have to speak Brazil?
Anyways, then I had to explain who Hitler was.
You know, I said, well, sometimes there's a good reason to go to war, like World War II.
And he's like, what happened in World War II?
I was like, well, this is this guy named Hitler.
And I was like, and he's like, so what did he do?
And I'm like, well, he was really mean to Jewish people.
And he was just started, you know, imagine it was a neighborhood.
He just started walking in people's kitchen, throwing the pots and pans around, like, everybody on the fucking floor.
You know, he's like, man, that wouldn't be real nice.
And he's like, what did he do with the Jewish people?
And I was like, well, a phone call.
I picked up a fake phone call.
So anyways, that went well.
but yeah like I'd love to get I would love to get a game on an aircraft carrier
make it fucking happen where else can we have a football game dude where else can we have a football
game would you want to be in the announcer's booth for a game like that would you want to call it
they got to put me on a dingy after the first quarter because I don't want to be there when
when it when it gets a tag so yeah um anyways here's uh rashad white who hey listen he might
want to come to the Florida Atlantic South Florida game on the aircraft carrier.
South Florida is in Tampa.
He's probably a big supporter of the Bulls.
Here's Rashad White.
What's up, y'all?
I've got Rashad White today.
Tempey Buccaneers running back.
And he's been on my fantasy team.
I'm a big fan of the guy.
Really enjoyed watching the Bucks play last year.
I think a lot of people overlook them.
I know y'all do too.
Here's my question for Bucks fans that are checking.
us out maybe for the first time or if you're back appreciate you um which team in the nfc south
do y'all hate the most um which franchise makes your blood boil which fan base has the most obnoxious
fans i kind of have a feeling y'all are going to say new orleans i actually like their fans uh
but let me know what you all think and i hope you enjoy the interview and uh like subscribe tell a friend
come back for more.
We'll get more bucks on.
Joining me on the Greenlight Pod is one of my favorite young players in the game, man.
This guy came on last year late,
and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers were a lot of fun to watch.
A lot of the reason was Rashall White.
What's up, dude?
How are you?
What's going on, man?
How are you doing, man?
Thank you all for having me on.
I'm good.
Thanks for coming on, man.
So for people at home, they're going to be listening to this on Friday,
but it is Thursday.
The draft hasn't happened yet.
And I know that you spend some time.
at Arizona State with Jaden Daniels.
And I kind of wonder, like, what's going through your head right now?
Are you just psyched for the dude?
Where do you see the best fit for him?
Like, what are you thinking right now?
Yeah, man, for sure.
Man, I'm happy for him, man.
We talked about this.
And to see, you know, him make the steps and improvement this last year.
And we got messages.
We got texts.
We text every Saturday, Sunday.
He texts me.
I text him every Saturday before the game.
And we both show each other, you know, send our respect.
And, you know, both tell each other, like, you know,
come on with it.
You know, it's game day type text to each other.
And obviously, we're going to keep that going in the league, man.
I'm excited.
I'm excited.
I'm happy for me.
He took that jump, man.
He took all the work.
Trusts the process.
He kept going, man.
And like I said, man, we got messages.
He telling me, oh, yeah, you know, I'm going to go out and grab this highs, man.
It was like mid-season when he went on that run.
And we both going on the run, like middle of season.
You know, he came on strong.
And he texted me.
He was like, I was like, let's go.
was come on with it.
Just like that.
I think it was after bye week for him.
And he was like,
I'm going to go grab his Hizman,
just like that.
And I'm like,
go ahead,
go do it.
Let's go.
And so it was just,
it's awesome,
man.
I'm excited for him.
We,
we talk about fits and things like that.
I mean,
it's good.
If you go to Washington,
I think it's good.
I mean,
we got a couple,
I'm with team IFA.
So we got a couple of players over there,
Jonathan and Frankie Loubu.
A great.
Louv is a good player.
Yeah.
Dude,
Louu is a good player,
man.
Yeah.
in the league here and he was in Carolina.
I'm happy he go.
Tell me this. Tell me this now, because you know I'm an Eagles guy and all that,
but like I feel like we could have used him in that playoff game.
Yeah, so I think, yeah, I mean, I think the Eagles should have grabbed them.
I think, you know, I think they should have, you know, no disrespect to what they got going on.
The Eagles do need linebackers.
Obviously, that's a key point.
That's the, you know, one of the pitfalls.
to you guys as you guys get going in the season and later in the season. But I think you guys
could have used them, but it's awesome. So, I mean, I think commanders a big good fit, man. You got
Jehan. I came out with Jehan. We trained together in Arizona. We formed a good bond. I mean,
same thing. You got Terry. Never met Terry, but we know what he do. And you see it. You appreciate
the game. Be Rob, Brian. You know, Austin, Texas Austin a little bit, too. So, I mean, got a good
backfield. And, you know, you can't complain, you know, and they got, I don't know how many
picks and a lot of picks.
So, you know, it's good for me.
No question.
That's a good, it's a better time than ever to go to that organization, if you know
what I mean.
But, yeah, no, what do you think separates him?
Like, you've been in NFL locker room for a few years now.
You play with Tom Brady, Baker, like way different guys, but both awesome dudes.
And then, you know, like just the intangibles, but also the field skills.
What do you think projects all for him?
Biggest thing, I think that separates him.
And, you know, we had a lot of talented guys at Arizona State.
we was all in different transitions, different phases of our life and of our career and then our body and our game.
So, I mean, a bunch of other guys from Arizona State that transferred coming out to in this class and they're going to get drafted pretty high too as well.
And you can just see it.
And I think the biggest thing for me when I got there, because I came from junior college, the biggest thing for me to him,
and somebody just asked me, little kids and who's the best quarterback you, like, you know, you enjoyed or love to ever play with it.
And it's tough because I play with the goat.
And I take nothing away from him.
You know, I'm a rookie.
I'm young.
I cherish that moment.
I learned a lot for me, but me just being around Jaden.
And like you said, I mean, we all know the potential to talent, obviously,
is why he projected to go high as well as what he did in college.
But the ceiling for him is high.
I just say the biggest thing I love for him is he a winner, man,
regardless of what went on that Arizona State or LSU, man,
never had to lose a season.
Not that I can recall, I may be wrong, but in college.
And, you know, I mean, obviously that's the biggest thing.
of what he did or who he had with him.
He always made it work and made his shake in order to consistently be a winner.
And he showed up, he shows up in the biggest games.
I mean, you look at the college tape and what he did.
I mean, we first got the Arizona State as a freshman beat Oregon.
Oregon had Jay Herbert.
They was ranked high, you know, things like that.
So in the biggest games, to me, too, he always showed up.
And that's why I really love his poise.
Him and Tom Brady is like two quarterbacks I never felt like out of a game with.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, it was crazy to me.
I played most of my career on losing teams and then ended up in New England in 2016.
And, you know, I was like, wait, we're going to score 40 points like every week.
You know, we could be down 283.
We could be down whatever it is.
You're always in the game.
What was it that you learned from Tom?
Was it what you imagined?
Like when you walked into it, I can remember the first time meeting him being kind of like,
what's he going to be like?
Yeah.
And he was so chill.
I mean, he was like, hi, I'm Tom.
I was like, no shit.
Man.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
And, yeah, that went a long way, same.
Hey, Tom, you know, introduce himself to me.
I mean, even though he didn't have to.
And, I mean, it just shows a lot about a great guy.
And that was the biggest thing I took from time.
Regardless of what's going on, I always pride myself on anything, too.
Like, if my teammates speak up on me, I mean, obviously, my field stuff is going to speak for itself and do what they do.
But the biggest thing I would want them to say is he a great human being.
He's a great person.
He's a great teammate.
And I pride myself on that.
And then the things that I've seen from the legends of this game.
like the guys that has been great and been successful i mean i still got other guys like mike evans things
like that everybody say the first thing they say about mike is man mike is an awesome man he's an
awesome dude like you know what i'm saying and same thing about tom tom is so awesome lavante david
lavante is so awesome like as a man as a human being so i just been picking up on that learning
and uh big thing he always told me too i remember when i got there out i mean we was talking chopping
up game as a rookie i could run i'm good out of the backfield um and um that's how i carved my
in, of course, with Leonard and stuff like that, too, because Leonard was good.
He could catch the ball as well, but that's how I carved my role in the first couple games
and stuff like that.
And I remember I did something.
I was just how you want this?
How you like this?
And he's like, man, just win.
Just do what you do.
Be yourself.
Don't be a robot.
Like, have fun.
Go play ball.
You've been doing this your whole life.
And, man, and that was just huge, man.
I gained the respect of him early on because of what I did, came in a rookie minicamp and
the OTAs and him just, the other guys speaking highly of me and my other teammates,
like Blaine and the other quarterbacks that he, he, he, he,
really respected as well, too, and really took their opinion and understood in the coaching
staff, too. So he was already, like, talking about me on, like, certain stuff before he came back
from mandatory meeting camp. Like, yeah, I heard, you know, Ricky running back doing this thing.
You know, I came to meet him type deal. Well, yeah, I mean, I'm sure he loved you right away
because you can catch the ball to the backfield. Like, you, that's the one thing about you.
I mean, I love you running the rock, but I also feel like that that's a really differentiating
factor for you. And I'm just curious because I didn't, I rarely had to cover you guys. I mean,
that you guys might peel on a blitz and I might have to try to act like I can run with you for
15 yards or that sort of thing. Or I might have to drop to the flat. But I don't understand kind of the
matchups sometimes. Looking at it from a running back standpoint, what are the matchups you love to see?
When you break the huddle and you see a certain matchup, what is that matchup that matchup that you're like,
bro, that's cash right there. I mean, the biggest thing is,
I mean, kind of when you peeling, it just depends on how you peeling, how to D& peeling.
Sometimes they peel and they got a certain area.
They got a cover, which we kind of like too because it's tough.
You don't peel a lot.
And the Eagles started doing that again a lot, the second back half of the season.
So it was good when we talked about that and looked at that and focused on that.
And sometimes it's tough for you.
Like, you used to rushing.
Like, that's what you do.
And then you got to peel and you like, damn, it's so much grass.
But I'm supposed to be in this spot.
But as a receiver and as a runnerback coming out of the back,
you got certain options you got en route.
Like, you know, if I got a choice route and you pill it and you just keep going flat,
then I'm going to just sit it down and somebody inside.
If somebody not inside, then I'm going to break in, even though you still got to go peel out that way.
So it's just certain little things.
But the biggest thing I love is a linebacker, man-oh-man.
I love when the backer push.
The biggest thing I love when he push.
And, I mean, God's going to see this all the time because I'm a big guy.
My coach teaches me down and my coach love it.
And I'm a type of guy is I'm going to take what you give me.
So, you know, most of the linebacks nowadays, they just want to stay inside.
So I'm going to keep going outside, of course, and I'm going to take my six, seven yards, five-yard catch, and try to get six, seven yards and get more until you really want to push.
And I can get you square up on me, and that's the best that I really love because now I can pick and choose which way I want to go.
Now I got options.
Yeah, dude.
I actually play with you guys on Madden a good bit, and I like to hit that little angle route with Rashah White.
You know, if I get man, it's over, dude.
So, I mean, are you pretty good at Madden?
You're sitting in the gamer chair.
So the crazy part is I'm so sorry to it's all the level EA.
Hey, I hope EA raised my Madden overall.
I hope I showed them something.
If not, I'm going to show them, you know, this year again, whatever I need to do.
But people tell me, I'm pretty good.
I don't need to.
Can you play?
So I don't even play.
Like, yeah, I don't even play matter.
That's the game I don't play.
Oh, come on, man.
We got to get a game.
We got to see.
what you got, man. So when I saw you in Austin, I don't know if you remember this. The first thing
I asked was like, what took y'all so long? You know, this year, it seemed like you were,
I don't know, was it a commitment or was it just the way you guys were running the football?
But late in the season, I felt like they featured you and it was a good look.
I mean, the biggest thing is, obviously, we was learning a whole new system. We went from
Bruce Ariens, Byron-Leftwood system to kind of portion of the West Coast system,
different various variations and variants of it.
I mean, so we all, it just took us a minute to get it down, same page,
details that the West Coast system requires to make it more easier and simple on the players.
And so at first, we was rough, of course.
I mean, and we finished last, of course, too, in Russian in the league because we started
off so rough.
But just the certain guys that we had, we wanted to make a change, man.
We wanted to change it up and what was going on.
And we wanted to be better rushing the ball because obviously it makes it better too.
Like you got to defend, I mean, you got to pick your poison.
And that was the biggest thing.
So we just all came together, me, the line, the runnerbacks and coaches.
And we were just trying to lock in.
And like you said, the biggest thing is just constant, continuous of reps.
And, yeah, we just started hitting it.
And then it just got better.
Like you said, the second half of the season, man, our rushing totals and our rushing stats,
I mean, we was like top 15.
The biggest thing is we just dug ourselves in so much of a hole.
early on that it was tough and I think the year still shows show what it showed but the second
half we could you know take a lot from that even in the playoffs we was rushing the ball we ran the ball
I mean ran the ball good in the playoffs too yeah I mean if I were to ask you and I have an answer in
my head but what what do you think the best game you all played as an offense this year wasn't a
win that's game then if we're taking the playoffs out of it uh they'll probably be up in green bay
I was that's exactly what I was going to say it was up in green bay and yeah I mean the biggest thing
too. And it was like crazy because our team, and our team is really young now. Like our young players,
like even me, year two, you was expected to make the jump in the lead. I mean, we got young tight
ends. We got second year, third years, tackles and guards and center. You know what I'm saying?
So like our team is, even on defense aside, like we really young. So we had the, like you said,
the transition in the middle of the year to where we couldn't finish off games, close off games.
We would make a little bit more mistakes than the other team and we was losing some games. But
I mean, we just seen a lot and watched the film a lot,
and our staff harped on it a lot that the thing about it,
though, we were in these games.
We had chances to win at the end, you know,
and that's what the NFL about is.
This is about who makes the least mistakes and who's more disciplined longer.
And so, man, we went on that push, like you said,
but like Green Bay was a pivotal game and things like that.
And, you know, a lot of people thought we was going to lose.
We heard a lot about it.
And it was just huge, man.
Man, that was an awesome game.
You guys were clicking.
It was like, when you go on the,
the road and winning the NFL and atmosphere like that. It just takes such perfection offensively.
And you got like that's the type of game that would I be on the sideline as a defender,
every conversion. It was like all those third downs. I mean, you guys broke their back like 15 times.
It was it had to build a lot of confidence. With Canales, what's his philosophy? You know,
what do you think is his differentiating factor when it comes to scheme? I know it's a West Coast guy and all that,
What can you expect in Carolina?
Honestly, Canals, his philosophy is take care of the ball.
Obviously, that's the biggest thing.
That should be everybody philosophy.
Of course, that's an offense.
But he harping on that a lot, big on that a lot, really detailed and not a lot.
But the biggest thing is philosophy for me that I really enjoy.
He's an ultimate player's coach.
I can't knock him on that.
To me, a quarterback guru.
Obviously, we've seen him in the last two, three years what he has done.
And the biggest thing is him.
He's about detail.
So he's very detailed-oriented as well.
And he just like to make the game simple so the players can go out and play fast.
So he wants you to play fast and play hard.
So he's trying to make it simple.
So what you can expect to me, I mean, in Carolina, a lot of people cut him slack.
I mean, a lot of people go hard on them.
But to me, and they could say whatever about our division.
But, I mean, it ain't like our division to me get blown out against other divisions or things like that.
I mean, you know the NFL is the NFL.
So Carolina, they got good defense, they got good pieces.
You know what I'm saying?
Like, they're not, like, just bad.
It's just like the little simple things that you expect.
So, like, what I can expect from Carolina is they're going to win more games than two.
For sure.
And, I mean, obviously, Bryce going to play well and better.
I think Canales is great at that and what he do for the quarterbacks.
I also think that they're going to compete more at higher level.
Obviously, we've got some more guys of our staff over there, and they have this certain identity.
and things like that, so that they don't carry over there.
So it'll be good, though.
It would be good to go against Coach Cadd out, and I'm going to talk stuff too.
So talk to me about Baker Mayfield this year and his ability to find the tight windows in that
offense.
I know timing's important, but also to be a leader and be that spark plug.
Huge, man.
He was leader, came in, stepped in a row, big shoes of field.
A lot of, like I said, young guys, you know, is tough as a quarterback.
You got to have trust.
You know, you've got to have patience.
He came in, obviously, prove a year for him, and he just stepped in right in.
You said the identity of our team, we look at ourselves as dogs.
We big underdogs.
I mean, people still don't give us a lot of respect to credit, and it's cool.
It is what it is.
Everybody got there on opinion.
But with Baker, he came in, man, trust the canals, trust the offense, trusted the players around him, and that shows, like you said,
a lot of tight zip throws in there of just trusting the system, trusting us going through practice
and things like that.
and guys being in the right spot that they have been in all year.
And, I mean, you know, it's hard not to trust Mike and Chris, though.
They've been doing it with all kinds of, no disrespect quarterbacks.
You know, I ain't got no knock against Fitzpatrick or, you know,
no, no, no, whoever, a lot of guys that they have had, you know,
but they've been doing it for years and time at the time again, so it's not easy.
And then a lot of young guys stepped up as well, too, and made plays, things like that.
And so that's why I just think for bait, a lot of trust,
lot of confidence, a lot of understanding the offense and understanding, whatever, three hitch,
five hitch, let me get the ball out. I'm, I believe my guy's there. Yeah. When it comes to Baker,
he's like, he seems to me to be real emotional in a great way. Like, you know, sometimes I'm like,
dude, you're going to get a concussion head button. Yeah, yeah. Your teammates on the sideline.
Leave that to D. Lyman. But what's the most animated you saw him this year? The most animated.
that I saw when we went to Minnesota.
That's the first game of the year.
And I think he almost gets like closed line or his neck gets ripped.
We need the first down, though.
It's a huge moment in the game.
It was a tough game, close game.
I think we was up 20 to 17.
It's a huge drive.
He zips one into Chris and then I forgot what happened.
And then next, you know, I know it's like third, some down.
Might be fourth down, honestly.
We just kept our office on the field or something like that.
I think it was like an RPO or something.
He is up pulling it.
and he just takes off for like six yards and he picks up the first down and somebody like whips him and stuff
excuse me he just gets up and like you know he just fiery dog and you appreciate that as well as just
I think another game in the season he just he shot I mean another game against Minnesota I mean
not another game but against Minnesota again another player he tries to like stiff for him I think
it's like Murphy Iron Murphy I think like tries to just like shove him out the way like if he was there
Harry just was talking shit like yeah take that
Yeah, take it. Yeah. Yeah, take that.
And it was just funny to see.
Like, I'm like, all right. Yeah, that's our guy.
He definitely, he definitely walks around like he's six, ten, man.
Do people, speaking of people who are actually huge?
Do people disappear behind Worf's sometimes?
Dude, Tristan is a monster, man.
Me and Chase would be talking about all the time, like, just in the way room,
like, just in everything you do, man.
I do is a monster.
Like, yeah, he is.
This parents, man, I got, I still ain't met his parents.
I tell them I got to meet your parents, dog.
Like, this is crazy.
Like, I mean, I got to see somehow or this guy just brought you out like this, bro.
But yeah, like, you disappear for sure behind him.
And we're talking about all the time, like, he just size, massive.
But we just talk about how clean it is.
Like, it's not sloppy.
Like, he's like a built, like, you can tell him.
Like, you tell he, whatever, state champion, wrestler, like, you can tell Iowa.
He's a beast, man.
I was going to say, he just, he helps you guys in both phases so much.
With the new OC, Liam Cohen.
I know for me early in my career was tough.
You know, we switch coordinators a lot.
Is that tough for you guys or is it a system that you've gotten know a little bit already
and you feel like maybe it's not that different?
Yeah, man.
Oh, my gosh, man.
Energy is high through the roof.
Very, very detail oriented.
Very knowledgeable.
So smart, so intelligent.
Very, as well, players coach, pick, brain.
Just love to talk ball.
I mean, the system is awesome, man.
obviously came up in the McVade, Shanahan, all them guys, man, and he'd seen a lot.
I mean, obviously, been in that system and things like that worked his way up.
And so learned a lot and just going through these phase right now.
And obviously, you know, we all being there, a good amount of us is there obviously, you know, trying to think.
So the new system is not necessarily like hard to pick up on.
I mean, of course, you got to know what you're doing, though, in this West Coast system.
Like, this is the original.
It's a lot of different things.
Obviously, too, though, you do now.
You know, the game change, a lot of shifts, a lot of motions, a lot of different formations, things like that.
So it's huge on that.
He's huge on that.
But as well as, too, just letting guys go out there play fast, play ball, making the game simpler.
You know, obviously he's huge right now on our run game.
It needs to be way better, a lot, a lot better.
And he's huge on coming in.
And he's watching a lot of tape on a lot of the guys.
on our team and you know you just um you know just trying to get guys right so i like him a lot like
like him a lot that's awesome definitely seems like you're excited about him yeah that's tough i mean it can
be tough if you don't get the right one but i'm sure he's a great coach so um all right so i hit you
with some quick hitters here man best atmosphere you played in on the road this year um or so
far in your career let's keep playoffs in it detroit for sure detroit they're not like me but detour right
dude but that place that was a great game yeah for sure that was an incredible game for sure okay
how about the hardest you've been hit uh the hardest i've been hit um i probably say uh pyramid
denzil i think oh dude that guy is it yeah he a head hunter literally his head is yeah his head
has to weigh 50 pounds yeah he's a head hunter so i say him i think i was trying to catch a check down
i turned around and just get mauled first time i get mailed like that he's a beast
dude. Yeah, Perryman. Okay. All right. How about a defensive player that you, after the game,
you were like, all right, that's the guy in this league. The first guy that you were like,
man, that guy's different. Probably say Fred, man. I think he just made some freakish play. He was
at backer, didn't move a step. Might have stepped back. I think Beck was trying to throw a ball
somewhere. And dude literally jumped up like it was a 40 inch vertical. Like if he was at the
combine, like everything and like got so hard.
high up and like, I don't know, like swat at the ball.
It was like crazy.
And he was like five or six yards deep.
It was crazy.
I was like, oh.
Dude, that guy just takes the air out.
There's no space in the middle of field.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You know, it's like, and then if you try to get the ball on the perimeter,
it's like the only thing you can do is like what Green Bay did.
Yeah.
In the playoffs, which is get the ball out there quick and have them overrun plays because
they're so damn fast.
Yeah, for sure.
And then cut the toss back.
But he's just like, he's so different, dude.
I mean, yeah.
All right. So how about when I say to Mario Davis, you've had to see him a good bit.
What do you think?
Man, a lot of respect for his game.
Monster, man.
He won't guys, though, especially as a running back, though, you want to go up against
and you want to touch your game against.
Obviously, you know, like me, I'm a different.
I like playing the best backers in the league, so I can know, like, all right, cool.
And it's okay for me, cool, because I'm a realist, man.
I'm in tune with reality.
So there's some games, I'd be like, he got me.
Like, they got him.
Some games I'll be in.
I talk stuff to all of them too back.
So like, you know, I talk a lot of stuff.
So a lot of them respect my game as well too and stuff like that.
So it's huge.
But man, when you say to Martin Davis, no, monster.
Like, you know, he's coming with it.
Like, you can't have no day off.
Can't have no day out.
Or he's going to show you.
He's going to show you what's up.
He's like the back when I was growing up in the 90s, bro.
Yeah, for sure.
He's huge.
I mean, there's only a couple guys like him left.
Okay.
So how about, how about is New Orleans a team y'all hate the most in the
NFC South.
I'm different, man.
I hate everybody.
Okay, he hates everybody.
I don't really, you know, it's respect.
Equal opportunity.
Yeah, it's respect.
Like, I got respect for a lot of guys and what they do.
But, like, in between them lines, like, like, we, we, we at war, you know, and that's
just facts, you know.
So I'm always chirping, talking stuff.
I mean, my position coach, be on me, like, hold on, pull him out the game real quick.
Come here, me.
You got to, like, and I'm like, nah, nah, he can't calm me down.
Like, nah, skip all that.
Nah.
And he's like, man.
And I'm like, nah, skip all that.
But saints are, yeah, for sure.
Like, man, you know, they kind of try to say they don't see us as a rivalry.
But, you know, at the end of the day, you know, I see Kim talk a lot and stuff like that.
He tried to say he don't see us as a rivalry.
But come on, bro.
Like, you know, but I mean, like, me, no disrespect to them.
Like, you know, I mean, I think what, I lost, I'm lost to him once in two years.
So.
Earlier this season or late.
Late.
Late, late.
Remember?
Yeah, we beat them there and then they came in.
Oh, yeah, yeah.
They got us.
They got us.
They got us when the divisions on the line.
You can't be perfect.
Yeah, for sure.
All right.
So who's your comp when you think like, because I always thought, oh, I kind of play like this guy or that guy.
Like you hear what people say, but what do you think?
My comp.
That's a good question, man.
I feel like, obviously I'm a toddler back.
I'm like 6-1-220, but like I think my comp, I don't.
don't know. Like, that's a good question. I heard Levyon Bell. Yeah, a lot of people compare me to
LaVianbele a lot. And I don't like, I don't think that's a bad comparison. I really like
Levyon Bell, like all my life for sure. Like he was one of my favorite running backs, like,
Arian Foster. I liked it. For some reason, I was always linking and stuff like tall. So, like I
love the taller backs. Like, you know, things like that. So yeah, I would say probably so.
Like I'll probably say like, yeah, Lebeon Bell. But it probably helps you to be taller to be able to make
those big jump cuts, right? Yeah, for sure. And a lot of ground, like a rusher with length.
setting up an outside move inside and like uh some of my teammates they'd be like mic don't be like
bro you kind of like time early but i'm like nah t g he's real deal though dude that's my guy
tg he was my rookie bro he tg was incredible bro like i mean when he came on the scene it was like
he was he was punk and grown man yeah immediately he real deal and we watched a lot of film of him
obviously with the system but and uh obviously the rams but uh what i was gonna say though yeah so
i mean like you know i go watch it
I love a lot of them backs, man.
I love a lot of them backs growing up.
Some good comps you've been getting.
Okay.
So the one thing I wanted to ask you about was you grew up in Kansas City, right?
Yeah.
So, you know, were your Chiefs fan growing up?
Yeah, yeah, growing up, yes, for sure, yeah.
So is it awkward when they win and you're like, yeah, it was awkward for sure when they won against us.
Because all your friends are probably Chiefs fans.
Yeah, so my friends, yeah, they be trying to like find a fine balance.
They were trying to find a fine balance of it, you know.
So, you know, my friends, yeah, like, I'm their favorite player,
but as well as to my home's, they favorite players.
So, like, they'd be trying to find a balance.
So if you go up to Arrowhead, how many tickets you think you got to buy for people
or how many tickets you think you get?
Man, that's a great question when we go up.
Are you guys playing up there?
Yeah, this year.
I played in my rookie year.
Then they came to Tampa, didn't play on this last year.
And then we go up there yet this year.
So did you score?
Was it your first rushing touchdown?
was against the cheese?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Was that just crazy, surreal to do that?
Yeah, it was crazy surreal.
It was crazy surreal.
It was crazy surreal for sure.
I mean, I was kind of sick because how the game was going.
They was on us.
They was on us.
Yeah, they were on us.
But yeah, I was kind of sick a little bit, but I was like, blessed.
I was happy that.
It was against them.
That's awesome, man.
So you got this youth football camp coming up in Kansas City.
What are you trying to accomplish?
Where can people learn about it?
Yeah, so, like, yeah, my camp
is just big on coming out there. Of course, yeah, teaching fundamentals of football, of course.
I got some good, like, people that be out there coaching, some good guys that I kind of grow up with as well
that know the game. But most importantly to it, it'd just be out coming, it just be about coming outside,
man, having fun enjoying the day around, like, yes, other kids your age, like you said, being able to compete,
being able to, like, you know, kind of see where you at, see where you, you know, want to go.
and just being able to enjoy yourself as well as like the parents and things like that.
So I think that's the biggest thing about my camp.
It's coming out, have fun, enjoy yourself, compete, learn some more fundamentals and some things about football.
And just, yeah, come kicking with me, my family.
And, you know, maybe I do a little bit.
I'll be seeing a lot of guys do some stuff like Jaylor Ramsey was doing some stuff.
Yeah, man.
And I do a little stuff too, have fun with them and things like that.
And that's my biggest thing about my camp.
They're just coming out and enjoying it, learn some things.
but don't make it too much about just learning,
making more about, like, fun.
Obviously, their kids, they're growing up,
and, you know, they need to be able to come outside
to have fun.
For a guy like me, too, to get back, man, home.
Man, you know, I was wishing guys would do this for me,
you know, so to be able to be in that position.
It's amazing.
Well, that's awesome, man.
Is there anywhere that people listening
can learn more about the camp?
Yeah, so, well, I mean, I got the link up in my bio.
It doesn't have a description of everything that they need.
Put it in the podcast.
We'll put it in the pod link.
Okay, cool.
Yeah, that's fine.
Yeah, yeah, cool.
Well, Rashad, I appreciate the time, man.
No, no problem, man.
Thanks for having me on, man.
He was fan of you, man.
Dude, hey, likewise, man.
We love you over at Greenlight,
and so we'll get you back after a big win this year, all right?
Of course, man.
Sound like a plan.
