Welcome to the Greenlight Podcast.
I'm Cowboy Reid.
Cowboy.
Today, Chris and Stanford Steve recap Sunday's biggest games.
That's Baltimore, Cleveland, Cincinnati, San Francisco, Buffalo, Tampa, and Chiefs Raiders.
Dr. Fax just got back from Vegas and gives us an update from the West.
And then after Steve, Chris and Dr. Fax hit their Monday mentions.
We go all through best plane ride, worst plane ride, O way, game ball, viewing party, fly on the wall,
All the ones you're used to hearing.
Enjoy, we start now.
So Thursday night I was up for some reason watching the Steelers game,
which turned out to be an epic finish unless you had the Steelers or you have the Vikings,
you know the rest, the underwind total.
I'm shivering.
I got the boosters kicking my ass.
It means I got a strong immune system.
That's how I'm rationalizing this.
And I'm up for some reason watching this stupid game.
and there was a moment where everybody went from having a lot of fun,
being captivated,
to the entire timeline of people just sharing this experience
being really, really sad,
and it was because Demarius Thomas passed away.
And never met the guy off the field,
but I promise you my heart sank.
Promise you.
You know, there are some people that, like, when they pass away,
you're like, it's sad, but for some reason it doesn't affect you as much.
Like, maybe they're celebrities or, you know,
everybody's life's worth a lot.
But for some reason, I think I just
have heard the kind of testimonials,
the stories that some of his teammates told
offhand, or just the vibe
you get, just playing
against the dude. I just really respected him.
He was a Georgia Tech guy,
ACC dude right after me, you played against him.
Yeah, I played against them.
And to piggyback off what you just said,
I seen a thread on Twitter.
Someone started, and it was just like,
can you guys just send pictures of Demarius Thomas just off the field stuff and it was just a barrage of
pictures of him taking pictures with fans kids and just like the smile that he had and these kids had
like I like I was like in tears going through it explaining to my girlfriend like what would have
happened and just how everyone is just raving about how great this kid was off the field and it's just
It's just so sad.
Reed,
Bronco legend.
You got a favorite memory?
He was my favorite player.
I had a hard time when he was cut and released and went to Houston.
All of the interactions I've seen on social media,
they were all positive.
And everybody from the Broncos beat writer to John Elway,
everybody in between Peyton Manning had great words for him.
Everybody had one personal story.
Dr. Fax, you said it as well.
Everybody talked about his smile.
talked about his impact on him.
You saw the video of Tom Brady.
He played in New England for basically a blink of an eye.
And you saw the video of Tom Brady when they met on the field after that stint.
And Tom Brady gives him a present and walks right up to him before the game.
Favorite memory is easily the Steelers touchdown 80 yards from Tim Tebow.
That's one of those.
I remember where I was that day, like sports moments.
You always remember where you were that happened.
Tim Tebow.
And I'm a huge Tebow fan.
Oh yeah, that was pandemonium.
It had to be reed.
You were freaking out.
Where were you?
I was in the living room.
I five,
my dad,
my brother,
and we got out.
We were jumping and so excited,
our dog jumped on us
and he tore my shirt
because he thought,
he didn't realize
why we were going crazy.
So he jumped up on me
and tore my shirt.
And I was like,
no,
it's a good thing,
dude.
You got to keep that shirt.
Yeah.
You still have that shirt?
Yeah,
I still have it,
along with my two.
When I really want to piss people off, when I defend Tintibo, I asked them if their favorite quarterback has thrown a playoff touchdown.
Or a game winning playoff touchdown.
Game winning playoff touchdown.
You're a hell of a troll.
And I respect that.
But like, yeah, no, man, there was a Tom Brady's 700th touchdown.
Somebody said the path of like the touchdown and kind of the way it looked and everything reminded them of DT's touchdowns.
touchdown in the playoffs.
Oh, like where it happened on the field, like the quick in-breaker that goes and you
got a guy and man who's just trailing and can't catch him and he's headed to the right
pile on and it's to win a football game.
Walk on.
And it was night, nighttime and everything.
Like, it just was a big moment.
Special.
Yeah, no, it's really cool.
I was in New Orleans with Tom Sandy and A.J. Feely.
We were, I was drunk.
You know that New Orleans drunk where you're like, I think I'll take a nap.
you wake up in its nighttime and you have a hangover,
but you have to start again.
That's a Vegas or New Orleans thing.
We'll talk about Vegas in a second.
But either way, man, like, that dude was a legend.
He was a legend on the field, and obviously,
listen to Reed talk about that moment.
Reed's one of millions of Broncos fans.
People like that are legendary.
And you listen to the fans what they say.
You also have to see what the players say.
Peyton Manning when he retired,
he was like, I'm going to miss every,
meeting Demarius Thomas
after every touchdown I throw to him
and him telling me
that he loves me and then he's so happy
he came to Denver. And not
just the players like somebody brought it up earlier
support staff
people in the media that some people
might not treat as respectfully.
That stuff is a big deal
and those testimonials they obviously mean he was an awesome guy.
So rest in peace
Demarius Thomas. Rest in peace.
Legend. Absolute legend. Awesome player.
obviously a better guy we saying hello you to winnipeg minotoba and you think we have any listeners in
winnipeg i think we definitely do i think we do i think we have well i think we do have um canadian
followers i hear it's cold like so cold up there that you guys have underground tunnels yes that is
very true so if the listeners don't know i did a short stint um in winnipeg play for the blue bombers
My Facts deal of the week is going to Jake Thomas of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
Champs.
They defended their Grey Cup championship and they won again tonight against the Ty Cats.
Yeah, Hamilton.
The Hamilton Tye Cats.
The Hamilton Tye Cats.
Is that what they say Ticats instead of Tiger Cats?
Yeah.
They shorten it?
Yeah.
Tie cats.
That's weird.
They got pretty cool jerseys.
But they didn't play last year because of COVID, but the prior year,
they actually played the Thai Cats.
So it was a rematch and they won again.
And my boy, Jake Thomas, he had one sack and four tackles,
number 95 for the Blue Bombers.
One of my favorite Canadian teammates when I was out there.
He's still doing it.
31 years old looks great.
That's awesome.
He always invites me to, he has a curling charity event.
Oh, he does curling?
He has a charity event, a curling charity event that he invites me to every year.
You need to get into the curling world, dude.
I might have to go out there.
It was COVID the past couple of years,
so I might have to go out there and check the champ out.
You know who's a hell of a curler?
Who's that?
Fucking Jared Allen.
Is he really?
How many things can you be good at, bro?
I think he's good at like everything.
That was my teammate too for a little while.
How funny was that guy?
Yeah, he was.
He was a funny guy.
He sounded like a piece of work, an awesome dude.
Every time I talk to him, who's cool.
We were talking about the CFL.
I was wondering, you know, like with the Stanley Cup,
they get to take it around.
Do the dudes get to take the Grey Cup around?
Because I feel like, you know, it's like a very hockey kind of cultural thing.
And that's what they do up there, hockey mainly.
To be honest, maybe.
You think there is they, do they get to like?
Maybe.
I think the American players do get a chance to bring it back to America at some point.
Or they do something like that.
I might have just made that up.
I'm not totally positive.
I'm just curious.
I don't know.
I know they do some crazy shit with that Stanley Cup.
Yeah.
So I got a little bit of information about the
Gray Cup. So just like with the Stanley Cup,
members of the winning teams are allowed time to celebrate
with the trophy in their own fashion,
often taking it to their homes or tours and locations.
Doing cocaine off of it.
I'm sure their celebrations are much tougher
than the hockey player with the Stanley Cup.
Probably for sure.
I would think eating putteen out of it
would probably be high in the list.
For sure.
Have you ever had some good putteen?
But I know what it is.
But for those of you listening, he's talking about a food.
Yeah, French fries with gravy and like other stuff.
Kind of messy to be putting in the gray cup.
It's good.
All right.
It's good.
So shout out to the Blue Barmers.
Shout out to Coach O'Shea.
Congrats.
All the guys out there, Darwin Adams, still playing.
Jamarcus Hardwick.
Stanley Bryant.
He was the offensive linemen of the year this year.
And those are guys that were on the team when I was there.
So quick shout out.
Yeah, quick shout out to them, man.
Congrats, man.
Hey, layup line today.
I said this earlier.
I go, guys, we got some Richard Swift today.
And I was, like, looking for somebody's ears to perk up.
And nobody's heard Richard Swift.
And I don't, I'm not trying to be like a hipster.
Because I told you all, what did I tell you?
What did I tell you, Matt?
You had never heard of him until you had.
Exactly.
So I'm not saying I'm some Richard Swift expert, God rest of his soul.
He's not with us anymore.
but this dude could this fucking guy could make some music dude so i just i've been a little lucky today
on the sticks you know so to speak i've been knocking them down so lady luck is going to be uh
is going to be our layup line today and i want to read you so you know i'm not just talking up
some moderate heater here are the bets i lost this week chargers under 44 jets second half
I lost the 14 parlay as well.
All right, here are the bets I won this week.
And don't judge me.
There's a lot of them.
I know you don't have to bet every game.
Matt told me that earlier.
Thank you, Matt.
Thank you, Stanford Steve.
Are you coy motherfuckers?
You do have to bet every game.
Don't be coy.
Marble the floor up.
That's for the coy fish.
Yes, sir.
I'm going to be marbling the floor up.
I keep winning these bets, dude.
Listen, Pat's teaser with the unbushed.
New England plus three
Pittsburgh teaser with the over
Seahawks over team total
Cowboys adjusted line
Cowboys Seahawks money line
Parlay
Cowboys over 42 Ravens under 50 teaser
Second half Falcons
Saints second half over
Broncos first half money line
a teaser with Kansas City
the Dallas
Washington over and Denver minus 3
Chargers minus 10
Seattle minus 9 and a half
San Francisco Tampa Bay teaser
San Francisco Denver
LA Chargers
Tampa Bay Parley that was the big one
and that's just the
game bets that I won this week
dude I tell you when I lose a lot of money
but today I want a lot of money
so follow me to my fucking car
they're going to jump me and try to get into my win bed out.
Yeah, so I did well.
I had a tough loss today that would have been really good at 17 parley,
where I lost one game, the Ravens kept me excited.
Yeah.
They got to, whenever you can get the onside kick,
it's just like you have to like accomplish what you need to.
Yeah, don't trick off the onside kick.
Oh my goodness.
Like Matt and Aggie just did listen the Sunday night game just ended okay oh my God okay
I bought to 14 so that so I there you go I finish in my list of bets that I lost started this list
during that game notice I didn't count my chickens you never can not with the bears um but I bought to
14 uh and I felt really good about it I mean the bears were winning that game I drove here
to start work.
And my guy,
Rasul Douglas, I guess,
you know what, at this point, it's my fault.
Every time I bet against the Packers,
you see I got the chain on.
You have the chain on.
Every time I bet against the Packers,
my old friend,
who used to take my money playing pool,
takes my money as an adult,
as a suburban dad.
So, Rasul, I will not bet against the Packers again.
Yeah, Matt Nagy,
he gets down there,
and what does he do?
he uh he kicks a field goal down down 18 they're down 18 i need a touchdown there's two minutes
left to go in the game and matt and aggie kicks a field goal i'm like matt this feels personal
okay like i don't know if there's something i don't know about between you and my brother but
this feels like you're looking through the tv at me and you kick the field goal just to fuck me over
it is my birthday week and i'm thinking i'm getting a little lucky on my bet you
beat me to the punch to say it was your birthday i was going to say happy birthday but god damn you're
you're a self-promotion birthday guy do you post do you post for your birthday on social media
oh i'll definitely i'll definitely have a post i'm going to lick up for your birthday well i'm right
after the pot i'm i'm heading up to baltimore to get on a flight move dude yeah i'm Vegas now
somewhere else i mean you turn you only turned 34 once you know it's true that's it so true so
Hey.
Hey.
One time.
And hey, I got lucky.
Not unless you just get in an airplane and fucking fly west.
What's there?
Bro.
You just get an airplane, you fly west.
Why?
Think about it.
Time zones.
Oh, yeah.
Checkpoints.
Checkpoints.
Check points.
Think about it.
You turn,
you'd have a birthday every hour on the hour for a whole fucking day.
How tired would you be?
Super tired.
That's what rich people do.
That's what billionaires do, dude.
They get in their jets.
They fly west on their birthday.
You should know.
I don't have a fuck.
Thanks for the insight.
Hey, you were in Vegas.
What was the best thing you did in Vegas?
Without a doubt was the national finals rodeo.
You went to a rodeo.
So, stayed in the Virgin Hotel.
Class A hotel.
It was great.
I didn't gamble because I was a little superstitious.
I was put on the 14th floor, which if you know is the 13th floor.
So I stayed away from gambling.
But don't piss on my leg and tell me it's rain.
Just put the 13 there.
That's how I feel also.
Makes no difference.
Hey, if all these hotels and these uppity people want to believe it,
I guess it probably affects the bottom line with people coming in there
and they don't want to stay on the 13th floor and whatever it may be.
But the rodeo took
Tell me if the guy died in my room
Yeah
We've stayed in more than a few rooms
And somebody kicked the bucket in man
We've stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms
Over our careers
Maybe maybe that's a website
You should start like a Carfax on hotel rooms
Like what has it ever happened in here
No thanks
I'd rather somebody else provide that service
I don't want to live that life
No so the rodeo
Yeah
It was in town and
It
The tickets that we happen
to get was on my girlfriend's birthday and honestly happy birthday to her happy birthday to her and it
absolutely blew it out of the water it i had no idea we had no idea what to expect and it was nothing
but excitement from start to finish i stuck out like a sore thumb i will say that but the people
around me they had fun they explained you didn't have enough denim on i actually didn't i had a
tuxedo one. I was dressed for a nice dinner and we got presented with the tickets.
You went to a rodeo in a tuxedo, man. A tuxedo.
I mean, what? A tuxedo. And I got, and listen, and we made the Megatron. And we made the
Megatron. Okay. Earlier you were kind of like, people were giving me some funny ass looks and I was
like, I don't doubt it, bro. It's a fucking rodeo. And I can only imagine. But you totally
left the tuxedo thing out.
Yo, I was wearing the tuxedo, but listen
to this. The tuxedo!
Listen to this. I caught a
free hat. This
was like one of the promo hats that they
shoot out of the fucking canon. So
they had... Have you ever been to a sports game and they have
like the fan that looks like
the person that looks like it's a fan
and then he gets up and he starts dancing crazy.
Yeah, sure. They had that guy and the guy he had like a million
shirts on and he was ripping them off and he was throwing
him and then he came out there with a hat listen i'm not even paying attention and he throws a hat
and the hat lands in my lap bro you're just like you need a movie about you wait so he went to a rodeo
and a tuxedo yeah why why no so listen we got free tickets from the hotel like late like
we had be roach shout out to be roche wonderful host and it was something last
minute he asked hey would you guys be interested in going to the rodeo and we were like
absolutely did you already have your tuxedo on yes we were already we were dressed to go to no boo
for dinner and no boo to the rodeo no no so we were gonna go but we went rodeo and then to nobu
and it was that's usually how it goes too yeah and what'd you be no but that's the right to
I would not want to go no boo then the rodeo but the road but the road but the rode
rodeo to warm me up.
Yeah, but the rodeo started at like 545.
So like we had,
we had planned for early dinner.
So we were already dressed.
And the tickets were presented to us.
And we,
we accepted and we went to the rodeo.
And it was absolutely unbelievable.
Have you ever,
have you ever watched the rodeo or paid attention to the rodeo?
Yeah.
Dude.
Bull riding, those dudes, like honestly,
those dudes are.
are ridiculous.
They're absolutely ridiculous,
but what was really excited,
toughest people like,
the females,
the females that do the barrel racing,
that was very exciting.
Seeing,
seeing a female ride a horse
very, very fast,
and turn and bend a horse,
it was,
it was like something that I've never thought about,
never seen before,
and I've never been so,
like I was so engaged the entire time.
She probably never saw a 300-pound brother with a tuxedo either.
Probably, probably not.
That's true.
Probably not.
There were two people that were like, what the fuck is going on here?
Yeah, I had a great time.
So much of a great time.
I have a proposition for you and for Greenlight.
After football season, if we're thinking about content,
I'm thinking I can be a correspondent,
a Greenlight correspondent,
for rodeos, they have over 600 rodeos a year all over.
And I was thinking, if you guys send me, send me down the coast to some of these
rodeos, I can do some interviews.
Just down the coast.
Yeah, like, you know, you know, like Tennessee, Tennessee, they have them in North Carolina.
They have them everywhere.
I've been doing a little research and I feel like a black correspondent for rodeo.
It will get a lot of clicks.
Listen, I just want to warn you, you're stepping on Cowboy Troy's turf, dude.
Cowboy Troy does not take kindly to this shit.
Hey, man, I'm coming with open arms, yo.
I will follow the rules.
I'm trying to, I try to put on my best cowboy outfit.
I got Tim's now, but I was looking for boots while I was there.
They're kind of expensive.
But what I realized, too, the hat vendors, the cowboy hat vendors out there?
Sure, yeah.
Dude, Stinson's.
Stetsons.
I'm sorry.
That's, yeah.
Yo, they make the lines for these hats.
And then when you get the hat, this little indent mark isn't in it.
It's just a clean bowl.
And everyone was waiting out of line.
The dudes are standing there with the steam and doing it handmade, like pushing the indent.
It was a sight to see.
It was a sight to see.
It was very, very eye-opening.
Like, walking into something that you never thought about and you, like, you had no idea about.
and you feel like you're walking.
I don't know what it was like.
It was like walking on sunshine.
But it's like walking into a party you're not supposed to be at.
And like you've never like heard about and you're just like.
Yeah, it's a secret door.
It's like there's a bar in Miami called a bodega.
Oh, I love bodega.
Yeah, it feels like you walked into bodega.
You're like, oh, I thought I was in a porta potty.
Nope, I'm in the coolest bar I've ever been in.
The coolest bar.
I don't know if I would think it was so cool at this age anymore.
But there was a time where I thought that was pretty cool.
shout out to Joe Lam Dunbar.
Great tacos there too, by the way.
Sure.
If you ever, like the front, the porta party, it's a taco shop.
And they're bomb.
Sure.
Miami, 3 a.m., plenty of good food.
It's another thing.
Your facilities, your food, 3 a.m. guys, chef's kiss.
But the best part about it, too, guess what?
There were a few brothers.
Shout out to Corey Solomon.
He was great.
And it...
Oh, like on the circuit.
No, they were riders.
Yeah, like they were right.
They was out there riding.
But, you know, Stetson Wright, he took the show.
He won over half a million dollars during the 10-day spread.
And he is a bad mamma-jama in Wranglers.
He was riding a bull.
These guys are crazy.
There's crazy things I think I would do for money.
But seeing, listen, seeing.
seeing those bulls.
Like if someone told me like to get on a bull
You would fuck one.
No.
How what the fuck?
It's like for a half mile into that.
Hell no.
One last order of business, Buda Baker
had a baby girl this week.
Listen,
I feel like the pick six is coming.
I feel like the pick six is coming.
And congratulations, man.
Congrats.
Yeah.
We became friends with Buddha Baker.
Okay.
But it started where Buda Baker thought we were fucking with him, but we actually really like him.
Nice.
So we're good here.
So out of here, we're going to go into Stanford Steve.
Chris, Stanford Steve.
We're going to hit a couple of...
Sunday, Steve, Reed.
Sunday, Steve, that's right.
Sunday Stanford Steve.
We're going to talk Dallas, Washington, San Francisco, Sinci, the best quarterback duel,
which was Buffalo and Tampa Bay.
Man, yeah.
That was Catamani Cristo shit.
That was like out there by the castle.
And then we'll hit Baltimore, Cleveland, too.
So Steve and I'll hit the big ones,
and then Fax and I will be back to close this thing out.
A little housekeeping on the back end.

Sunday Steve's here.
It's a beautiful sight seeing Steve with his ESPN background there.
Like he's in a closet somewhere in D.C.
Basically what I am.
I'm in a closet.
The audio's good.
Anything to get on the green light on a Sunday night.
Dude, he's just a natural plug in the pod.
Like people don't know.
You're listening to the green light pod.
This is Sunday, Steve.
We're going to be talking about Dallas, Washington.
We're going to be talking about Baltimore, Cleveland, a little Buffalo, Tampa.
but the first thing, Steve, by the time it was time to like pop over to the Kansas City game to see what was going on, it was over.
Yeah.
It was like over.
I wonder if the Raiders would redo how they started things off in Kansas City today because it was over before the, I want to say, we had a snap.
Is it, I got to call Will Compton.
I mean, this is his first week in Vegas.
Maybe it was his idea to stomp the middle of the field.
but not great not great we were talking about this is there ever a good time to stump the field i don't
feel like it's a noon game uh or on one p m or noon game actually because you're in the midwest
i don't think it's a noon game and i don't think it's against kansas city and the state that
vegas is in correct i just to me the only time is after a win
and it's natural surface and you can maybe put the flag in
Yeah, you got to put the flag in.
Yeah.
You remember the SMU guy?
Was it the SMU guy?
Fucked up the flag plant this year against Rice.
Yeah, don't do that.
But, like, it's funny because John Gruden continues to haunt this team.
The buses thing last year, the driving the buses around, I forgot about it.
You think Andy Reid forgot about it?
You think the Chiefs forgot about it?
Not at all.
And then it's almost like the Raiders forgot they already did that.
And then they go to the middle of the field.
It's like they had amnesia that, like, you know,
You don't need to give them any more bulletin board material.
Here's the thing I just want to say this.
So we're consistent.
I have said when Juju was doing TikToks
and he was stomping on logos, I said, hey, bad idea.
But a lot of people who are like journalists
and maybe didn't play, they said, well, it doesn't really matter.
You have to go win on the field.
It's so dumb to get, you know, mad about a logo.
Tell that to the teams that are getting mad
when you stomp on their logo.
So I hope that everybody that defended Juju
doing TikToks on the Bengals, uh,
logo will also ride with the Raiders doing this incredibly stupid shit because the first play of
the game man they were they had the ball so fast go watch something on this first play go watch
chris jones play a reach block make this thing bubble he opens up that uh that tackle i believe
it was and he's got him three yards deep in the backfield the ball bubbles and that's what allows
them to make a big play and and honey badger had the ball and was out of the screen before the camera
guy could catch up to it. That's how fast they were playing. I mean, they have been the talk of
everything, right? You know, they've been the turnaround here. You know, they've given Kansas City a chance,
you know, to find the things offensively. And obviously now when you found, and that, and that was just
playing, you know, good solid defense. I'm not even talking about creating the turnovers. And now when
you're going to score on your own and you're going to create turnovers and give them a home's extra
snaps. You saw the, you know, we used to call it explode, where you shift before the snap.
And then they run the screen to Josh Gordon. Like, that's the chiefs. Like, they got the mojo going.
They're so deadly in the red zone. I was just thinking about that. The conflicts that they put people in,
whether I think it was the first touchdown, it's a pick play where if you've ever had like
appeal responsibility on a back and you're somewhere, even on the edge and they got, you got two guys
tight outside you, you want to get depth because they're going to pick you off as that
Peel defender. And that's what happened to the second level defender there. So they create,
you know, nightmares left and right across the screen for defenders. The second touchdown,
I think it was the dive pitch, or it was like a misdirection pitch to Williams. So you get those
two touchdowns. Then you get that dart to Josh Gordon, who, by the way, if they can get Josh Gordon
going, you know, I mean, like, forget about it. And just like from a standpoint of like,
wow, Andy Reid in this program, if they could get Josh Gordon, who I haven't heard a word about
there, which is a good thing.
Like, if that could be a weapon that falls into their lap, let's say in January, you're like,
holy shit, this team just gets better and better.
But again, they're surging because of one thing.
It's not the only thing.
Today the offense showed up, but it's the defense, man.
Chris Jones and Ingram running that natural TE.
You know, Ingram had a collapse on another sack.
They're just rolling.
I mean, Jones and Clark, who both players,
Jones was being misused early in the season.
Clark wasn't showing up.
They had 12 pressures combined today.
Clark had a sack.
He got after left tackle, Colton Miller,
and that was a big matchup.
I mean, Vegas didn't even seem like they wanted to win this game.
They were down 14-0, 4th and 5 at midfield, and they punt.
And that's pretty much when it's over.
So Dirty Dan shout out another turnover force.
This team is ball-aware right now.
They're full of themselves.
They're hungry, and it's loud.
narrowhead. All those defensive plays I mentioned happened backed up for the Raiders early.
And that's a terrible feeling on the road. They got jumped. And they asked for it. So.
And the biggest thing like, you know, big picture out of this, Chris, is I've gone into this season,
you know, as, as we saw how the chief started, I just wanted to see them have to go on the road
in the playoffs and do it. Like, I've wanted to see that. And now that was the biggest thing is when
they were struggling, they still won that ugly Monday night game against China. They still got those
wins. They weren't pretty, but they won the game. And that's, I mean, you saw, you know,
I'm sure we'll talk about Buffalo. They haven't won a one-score possession game all year. And I
believe I saw there like five and one in those games last year. So it's that close. Everything is so
close this year. And the ability for the Chiefs to win those ugly games, I think is going to pay
huge dividends down as we get down in the road. We only got a couple weeks left. And Homefield is there,
man. It's there. And who's going to go take it? The Chiefs have shown like a team that is just
going to go take things the last couple weeks.
Starting slow makes some battle tests.
Like Austin Powers living dangerously, but that's kind of how they do.
And then late in the season, they figured out.
And a lot of credit to Spags and those guys on defensive staff because they really do improve.
Now, I don't know if they're playing possum or if they're holding their best stuff for
November and December or if they're just a team that needs to get in a groove.
But they certainly do.
Kansas City is going to be a tough beat.
And by the way, you said this.
They're battle tests.
They play close ball games.
You're talking about Buffalo.
haven't won close ball games. Here's a team who hasn't won a lot of close ball games, Arizona.
And I raved about how many different ways they've won games this year. And of course,
they'll be playing tonight as you listen at home against the Rams. They've either blown teams out
or they had a tight win against Minnesota. I think generally that's how their games have gone.
So look for them to play some close ball games as well, but Kansas City, the battle tested.
All right, I want to talk about this, because we're talking about defense here, this Dallas,
Washington game. It was so
fun. It was one of the sloppiest games.
Yeah. But it was so fun.
And you know me, I like a little imperfection in my
football. But it was
at one point, Steve, I was wondering if this
was even a Washington home game. I mean,
Dallas fans were so loud
that, you know, they always travel.
But by the end of it,
you're looking up, it's third and three,
you're up a touchdown, you know where the
momentum is, you're down
two tackles because Tyrant Smith's
hurt. Yeah. And because Lael
Collins tried to kill the guy on the sideline and hey listen that's a big scary motherfucker.
I used to play against that guy.
I turned to my wife at home.
I turned to my wife at home when he attacked that dude and I was like, yeah, you don't want to
piss that guy off.
I played against.
He is a big, grumpy, heavy-handed, mean.
Mean.
Yes, mean.
Big and mean, I don't want to mess with.
I'm too old for that.
And you know what's funny, Steve?
I never used to like, I never used to like tip my cap on this, but like eventually I
wanted Lael Collins
over the couple games I played
against him late in my career
to let his guard down and like
give me a high five or something because then I knew I had him
like I remember the time he was like dog I respect you
I was like all right good
we're straight
he's not going to try to kill me the rest of the game
he complimented me but
when you're down those two guys is scary
so they did get all the receivers back
they looked better offensively
but the stars of this game were on defense.
Michael Parsons, I mean, I don't know if I've ever seen anything like it, dude.
He's everywhere.
He's in the backfield.
He's running with the tight end down the middle of the seam, you know,
in a cover two runner deal.
He's guarding crossers.
He's all, I mean, he could have two of those picks at the end, you know,
when Washington's trying to throw the ball and, you know, everybody had to screenshots.
He almost had a pick coming out of the half.
Yeah, yeah.
Pop down.
I mean, like, this guy does everything.
I remember, you know you talk about, and by the way, I tweeted this earlier,
DPOI race is better than the Heisman race this year.
Heismar race, of course, is over.
But the DPOI race, like, between Miles and him, even today,
some people are ready to give it to, you know, the kids,
some people are ready to give it to the veteran,
but I think it's still wide open,
and these guys got to make plays down the stretch.
But it was crazy.
You had the Parsons play, which was just like,
holy shit, I'd been sitting down for the entire game.
I stood up on my feet and then you had Miles make a play 10 minutes later.
So it was just like it was the race was happening in front of our eyes.
Dude, a couple weeks ago, it feels like a couple weeks ago they were playing the Saints.
Do you remember he ran down the sideline with the slot and broke the ball up on the left
sideline?
I mean, if there was a Heisman moment for a defensive player year, I thought that was it.
But this fucking kid today, bro, when he took Heineke's head off, you could,
He didn't take the flag out of your pocket,
but he hit him so hard and so clean.
You know, when a guy that's that big
and that athletic tabletop somebody like that,
you're expecting to see a flag.
I'm so glad it didn't come out.
He beats Sheriff with the rip just sinks it.
He's a 10.
It's not like the most spectacular rush ever,
but he makes everything look so mutant
and like effortless.
It's just incredible.
When you talk about getting low,
you know, getting lower on that rip, like his pad level,
pad level and the thing that's amazing to me is how long his arms are. Oh my God. And like it's just
his way he's able to reach around guys and get by people and what you know, whatever. We talk about
the secondary if you're even, you're leaving. He's he's in his own level at that because of
the length of his arms and what he could do with that. Yeah. And then you mentioned the fumble
sack. That's how hard he hit him. He couldn't hold on to the ball. He didn't touch the ball.
He didn't touch the ball. He got hit so hard that he couldn't hold on to it hitting the ground.
Like he was going as hard as to the ground as the ground hit him.
It was the nuts.
It was the rare play where everybody in the stadium saw it.
And it was like a wave.
It was like a, whoa, holy shit.
That just happened.
We all just saw it.
We all saw that flash, that blur in the B gap.
And everybody, instead of ball watching or watching the second level, was like, who's that?
Why is he?
Oh, it's Michael Parsons.
And oh, my God, dude.
And listen, he makes a couple of these plays a game, it feels like.
He had another sack.
Best defensive rookie since Aaron Donald, and he does it all.
So, like, it's a different kind of deal.
We'll talk about who you think might be the defensive player in the year.
We'll bang the gavel on that a little bit later.
But I just thought this was great for them defensively because second possession,
you had the Gregory pick, which was an even bigger deal.
Because at this point, I think they're up three nothing in the game.
They're really sloppy.
Yep.
They're making a lot of mistakes.
He's Dak just through a pick.
Dak just threw a pick.
It's third and 10.
And by the way, they're in man.
And this screen's like out the gate maybe.
I don't know.
I don't want to exaggerate.
I haven't seen the end zone.
But if he doesn't make this play,
these were defensive players bailing out the Cowboys' inefficiencies early.
And even some bad calls.
I'm not saying there were bad, bad calls,
but that was a bad spot for a defense.
And he bailed him out.
And in the very next possession,
I mean, you go from knocking on the door,
to holy shit, we're out of this thing.
17 nothing like that.
Yeah, so the defense is great.
By the way, Galmore, am I saying,
Neville Galmore?
That's his name.
The kid from Oklahoma, I really liked him coming out.
He has sack today.
DeMarcus Lawrence is back.
He looks good.
It's easy to forget about that guy.
You know, with all the shiny objects around him.
You still have tank there.
So that defense played really well.
And then even Lewis and Neil punching the ball out on Gibson late,
They both are like if one didn't get the ball, the next was going to get the ball.
So we talk about this all the time.
If you're ball aware, you can overcome so many mistakes.
I mean, New England against Tennessee a couple weeks ago played terribly.
They were ball aware.
They forced turnovers and they came out on top.
Dallas was top down.
They were physical and they were ball aware.
Yeah, I just everybody's going to try and nitpick, you know, with Dak and the running back injuries.
to me with Dallas, this was just a chance to extend the division,
go on the road, get the win and get the hell out of there.
And I know they look terrible in the end and everybody's going to pick apart that stuff.
But they did what they needed to do.
I thought Diggs was tremendous on McLaurin.
I mean, he was running routes, whether it was a corner, a deep over.
They did a couple in-game breakdowns of it, too, that showed you how he can do stuff
with his head turned in the anticipation.
And to me, that's just film.
That's just film and the ability to do things.
And also, it's the best turnaround of a group when they're healthy.
And I give all the credit to Dan Quinn on that.
Oh, yeah.
Because the identity, you talk about being ball aware, the ability to rally, create
turnovers, the pressure they could get with minimal guys sending them, help it on the back end if they need to.
And just, and then that naturally mix.
things up, which is just a pain in the ass if you're playing against them.
Because now you don't know where to hell Parsons is lying it up.
You got Dexter back.
You got Diggs who could cover anybody in your best any day and shut them down.
And I really think it was a huge step for them because of how, I don't want to say pitter,
but inconsistency, you know, weren't as impressive as they looked earlier in the year.
So I thought it was a great job by them.
Just, you know, McCarthy's saying they're going to win this week.
Yeah.
They had that.
And go up there.
take care of business and get out of there.
Go home and win. You're going to see this team again,
and you know Washington's going to bring it in two weeks.
But a win is a win, especially in a division,
on the road, in an atmosphere like that.
Give me that all day.
That's a nice flight home.
It's a big win. It's a nice flight home.
It doesn't make the best flight of the week,
but it's a damn good flight.
And the defense play with an edge.
Like, that's the key.
Like, whatever the stats came down today,
absorbing that comeback,
they fucking came to play.
And you mentioned Dan Quinn.
When you went up to Seattle back in the day,
it was LOB.
I'm not comparing this group by any stretch of the imagination.
But what I am saying is they have playmakers at every level.
You know, you have a digs on the third level.
You have Parsons.
And then you have a couple guys up front who can really get after it in Tank
and Randy Gregory, who's really come on.
So Dan Quinn, it can't be overstated the effect that he's had on this group.
Last year you were like their defense, forget about it.
They can't be contenders.
Now the defense is a strength that's getting them over the hump.
Because if you're honest, I mean, they're not playing Washington today.
It's a long day.
Washington was missing, you know, Logan Thomas.
That's obvious.
And sweat as well.
The D-Limon.
But I'll say this,
Dax got a little work to do, feeling comfortable, whatever it is.
Like we're a month into him being back.
I mean, we had a couple of miscommunications with Gallup.
almost threw a pick to Fuller.
He had the pat-pat pick where it's almost like he got impatient.
He was like, oh, shit, and just threw the ball in the middle of the field where like the
deck I know is going to reset, not panic, maybe tuck and run.
He had a third and four with a whole of the size of, you know, a truck.
And padded his feet and 94 caught up, pain, sacked him.
And so that's a comfortable DAC makes all those plays.
I think he'll get there.
I don't think it's a need to panic.
He just kind of got reset with that injury.
And he tucked in and ran for the first down to ice that game late in the ball game.
So, I mean, his calf looks good.
I think it's a little bit mental.
And a positive for them, Corey Clement late because I don't know what happens with Pollard.
That shit hurts.
Have you ever had that?
No, I know.
But I've heard people explain the pain, man.
And it's, I mean, anything sharp like that where people say it's a sharp pain in your foot,
But that makes you second guess yourself every step you take.
No question about it.
And they're going to need somebody to spell Zeeke,
because you could see early on they kind of fizzled when Zeeke was tired or he was out
and getting Corey Clement, who I play with in Philly,
who's a really good all-purpose guy,
to just look like he can give you a little something in the second half,
the ice games, and give Zique a rest.
That was a positive in the second half.
But Sims, McLaurin, those are two fearless guys.
Sims made the catch of the day-to-day over Diggs.
He'd take losses, even the best players did.
Sims went up and got that thing.
Baltimore, Cleveland.
Okay, RIP to your first half under...
Four weeks in a row.
Bye-bye.
Yeah, you've been...
When I text you this morning, I said, ironically, I wouldn't see him the board.
And you said, I'm off my fucking...
My weekly.
My weekly Baltimore.
And it was right there.
It wasn't for the Miles Garrett Stipsack.
So I was going to ask you, you're going to hold that against Miles.
I wanted to ask you about that starting there, because that really extends
the game. You know, that gets it to 24-3. But the ability of him to come around the edge,
knowing he has to get there before, I mean, he's throwing it. You've got to get there before
the ball's going forward. He does that. And I can't imagine what's going on in his head as he knows
where the ball is and nobody else does. And he's like, I have a path to this. Oh, my gosh.
And then he changes direction. See you. Like, everything you need to know about him was
explained was was shown in that play i think what it is with him is until people have been around miles
garrett they don't know the scale of this cat like every step he takes covers to a mine you know and like
the bend that he has at that size and that power and that speed like it's just dangerous for a tackle
a really interesting thing that they were talking about with villain o waiva was ankle flexion that's
the one thing that villain ova was talking about a lot in the i guess in maybe the production media
or something. And for a lot of people that goes over their heads, but like ankle flexion is,
if you're sitting there at home, try to bend your shin down to, you know, to touch the top of your
toe. You're not going to be able to do it unless your Miles Garrett or Robert Quinn or somebody
with like terrific ankle flexion and all like Hall of Fame level pass rushers on the edge have that
and to have it and be like Julius Peppers when it comes to your frame. It's, it's really gross.
It's really gross. And then he has a really good knack for the ball and he has a knack for the ball and he has a knack
for picking the ball up and making plays.
Not everybody does.
I didn't have a knack for picking the ball up and making plays.
He knew right where to go and get that ball.
And by the way, Baltimore, I'd hate to be in that O-Line room.
All those guys standing there looking at that ball.
I mean, you've got to go fall on that sucker.
But that is the thing that killed the under.
And ultimately, it killed the chances for the Ravens.
They didn't know it at that time.
The comeback, though.
I mean, like, this kid, Hunley, from Utah.
Utah. He really did a nice job. I mean, I know these D-Lyman were tired from chasing him.
It's a little bit different look than what you get from Lamar. I feel like he was buying more time to make plays or try to make plays behind the line of scrimmage rather than just toting it.
But, I mean, you're looking at 24-15 with nine minutes to go and Hundley goes 90 yards and 14 plays in four minutes.
It's a good thing for Baltimore. I haven't even looked at this kid's contract, but it's a really nice thing to have a kid who's capable.
No doubt.
When you have an athletic quarterback who's going to be putting some tough spots.
I don't think we jinx Lamar, but I've always said this repeatedly.
He doesn't get up slow ever.
Today was like one of the first times I was like, damn.
I hope it's not bad.
But to have a Huntley kid come in and kind of fit in the offense,
because that's not a given.
We see it with Colt McCoy in Arizona, two totally different types of players.
That was a good showing for that kid, and Bateman got some serious work.
That was the one thing that puzzled me today.
that was a touchdown he scored.
And then they, I don't know what I was listening to radio on my way into work
where they were replaying the touchdowns because they played all the touchdowns
and there was the Latavius Murray touchdown.
And the radio guys are saying Harbaugh's guy has read the red flag and saying,
I'm like, I don't know how that wasn't a touchdown.
Like he was over the line.
His knee wasn't down.
And it didn't mean anything.
But I know.
But I think it's an epidemic with these.
I think these guys, they're so good.
The referees, it's so much of the game.
but man, they don't look where they're supposed to be looking on these plays that cross the goal line.
Dude, it boggles my mind.
There was a Gerald Everett play today that, of course, I wanted to cross the goal line because I had Seattle.
I relapsed.
I told you I quit betting Seattle, but I did today, shamefully.
But it was the right play.
And, yeah, I feel like on the goal line, there needs to be like a chip in the ball, dude, or something.
Like, that's the one place we should let robots take over.
Because in traffic, it's way too sketchy at the down.
to gain, the line to gain, and at the goal line. But yeah, no, I thought it might have been
an OPI on that play, maybe a little push off. Maybe, but, you know, he made the play. But going
back, we talked about what we expected from Cleveland out of the biweek and knowing how bad they
looked against Baltimore a week before. And we've talked about the tight ends being out, but I still
thought they did a good job. Hooper was awesome today and throws that Baker did. I actually saw
them, you know, with those corners playing off, first and 10, they were just throwing five-yard
hitches and taking them. And then you see the throws down field of people's Jones. Like, that's
the natural effect of taking those throws early on. Chubbs still going to go on track. I think it was
17 for 59. But it was effective. It helped into play action. It got Hooper open on those crossers.
And I liked what I saw from Cleveland early on to establish it now. Same kind of thing with Dallas.
I think I tweeted out. Dallas, Cleveland.
San Francisco and Tampa Bay combined.
Four teams combined to score nine points in the second halves of their games,
and they all won.
Yeah.
And like that's,
I think even like three of them covered.
But that's another confrontation.
At this time of year,
just get the win,
not pretty.
Cleveland's not,
I mean,
that's the other thing.
Cleveland's not going to be pretty with the way they play.
No.
But the defense did what they needed to do.
They took advantage of the injury.
And I thought,
I didn't know what the hell they were doing on that drive.
you just talked about the 90 yard.
It was fourth and 11.
And they just let Andrews run right down the middle of, like, the safety was at 15.
Like, no question.
Yeah.
If you're going to do that, at least reroute him at the line of scrimmage.
I got to say, give yourself something.
And I got to give the Huntley kid a little more credit as well on the, I don't know if it was
that last driver or another.
He had two shots to Bateman.
One of them was an absolute fucking dime.
Like, I don't think the one that went down to the one yard line and turned into a
throw before that.
The throw before the absolute dime.
So this kid threw some good.
balls. And we talked about this last week. Cleveland, their best shot to win this game, we set it on
Friday, was you've got an aggressive team playing man. They leave these guys on an island,
and there is a big ledge with corner talent, and when a team loses their top guys, I don't care
if Humphreys hasn't looked great, when you're down a couple corners and you really leave these guys
alone, you have to take shots at them. I thought the Baltimore defensive backfield,
I'm not blaming them because they had a pick and they were competitive a lot of the day.
And certainly the first OPI was a terrible call in my opinion, but that's the way the game is right now.
You underthrow somebody.
You put these guys in a bind.
We said that Baker had to take advantage, if not just take shots at it.
And you had DPI's early.
You had the two-man route mix up that led to the touchdown by Landry early.
It made 10-0.
And then another shot at Westry, the next drive, he had a couple DPI's early.
and then a DPI in the end zone on Hooper.
So, like, just taking shots at these guys
and not to mention to add insult to injury there,
number 21 dropped two picks in the same play.
Yeah.
I felt terrible.
I'm like, bro, I felt like I know that feeling,
but I'm not expected to catch the football.
So just a tough day for the back end.
And yes, Averyd had a pick.
Even Kevin Harlan was, like, legitimately shocked.
He was like.
He did get a lot of mentions in how he was the number one targeted DB
in the league this year.
Kevin Arlin was like objectively very like, oh, Avery with the pick.
That's my big question is like, is Lamar going to be okay?
Have we heard anything?
Last I saw Rossini was saying it was a low ankle sprain.
But Chris, you played with a lot of guys.
I play with a lot of guys.
It's amazing how different guys are with ankles.
I mean, I played basketball growing up.
I roll my ankles nonstop.
I could get over a sprained ankle in five minutes.
I've learned, you know, just keep pressure.
on it, tire, shoe, tighter, and just keep walking on it.
And I've seen a lot of skill guys, you know, we used to call it little ankle guys.
You'd be amazed at some of these skill guys.
They got the smallest, skinniest angles in the world.
But they can't because they need everything right because they're so agile.
Like a sports car.
Yeah, I mean, Lamar, he's the quickest cutter in the game to me at full speed.
And that's a huge deal.
So it's definitely something to keep an eye on.
Interesting the way they're going to handle this.
I mean, he might be okay, and this might be a moot point, but like, look how Cliff just handled Kyler.
And I think he did a good job of it.
Like, this is a sports car.
We need him to be a sports car.
There's no point in bringing the sports car back if it only goes 90 miles an hour.
Like, we need the sports car to go.
And so, like, I don't know if that's going to take a week, but if you're serious about making this run,
I know the math might be fucked up for them and they don't have the luxury that Arizona has.
But you're going to have to make some tough decisions depending on where you think you are and where you think his ankle is.
something to keep an eye on.
I really worry about them, Chris, with the schedule.
Oh, I don't worry.
They're not making the playoffs.
Yeah, I don't think so.
Green Bay at home at Cincinnati,
home versus the Rams,
and home versus the Steelers.
That's a tough road.
And this is no disrespect,
because I think the world of Harbaugh,
I think the world of Pat Ricard,
I think the world of Lamar Jackson,
Clayas Campbell,
they got some really great players who I respect greatly,
but they also have a lot of great players
that are on the sideline,
injury report,
World Tour.
You know, so they're not a great team to start with.
They struck out, in my opinion, the offseason in a lot of ways,
and they're going to have to figure it out this offseason,
and that's going to be here quicker than they thought, I think.
Sincis, San Francisco.
Speaking of another team, I mean, Sincy and the AFC North,
that thank goodness people are losing around them,
but this was, we said it, we circled it.
We said this is a fucking big game.
It's going to have a big game atmosphere.
The only thing that wasn't big game about it was that
there was another game that sucked all the life out of the, you know, like you knew watching this game that not as many people were watching this game as they were Josh and Tom.
Yep.
But I found this game to be really entertaining.
Kittle was great.
Oh, God, he's so freaking good, man.
He was awesome.
That cat, I mean, and that's the thing.
That's the problem I have is obviously I'm in the tank for the guy.
I think he's, I think he's the best in the league when it comes down to everything there and see him healthy.
I agree.
And then you see the catch he makes at the end.
the regulation, but it goes for naught because they missed the field goal. Like that catch was
incredible. That kept, put that catch on a poster. The extension, the back, the bend in his back,
and then it'd be able to cradle at one hand and it not even be a question whether it was going to
hit the ground was unreal. And then I really, really liked what I saw from Jimmy in overtime,
because guess we kept going back to? Yeah. And you could tell they started moving D-Bow around to
help the match up with Kittle.
He had a couple, you know, seam throws right in there.
We put the ball right there.
It was really, really good stuff where Jimmy looked a little dicey.
Bates dropped a huge pick.
Oh, is this the one at the end of the game?
And here's the deal.
Here's where I got to give Jimmy credit, because nobody expects Jimmy to be Joe Montana.
But what Jimmy's got to do is when he fuck something up, he's got to move on.
And, I mean, they nearly fumbled the ball and gave it back to Sinci at the end of the game.
And then the very next play, he almost threw a pick.
So like you're feeling at this point like, damn, dude, the next thing we do is definitely going to explode.
You know, you're talking about you just blew a 14 point lead.
Yeah.
He drives him down and then he does those two things happen.
And then he makes that gorgeous throw.
So like he just puts it out of his mind.
And I think he, I don't know that Jimmy's going to win you a bunch of football games,
but he just has to make like one or two throws a game like he made a number 15 on second and seven late in that game.
I think it was maybe an overtime.
That back shoulder ball.
Yeah.
You don't have to make 50 of those.
We don't need you to be the reason you win.
you win the game.
This team's good enough that you can make two or three of those throws,
but you also have to move on when you make a mistake.
And he did move on.
He was really good today.
I got to give him credit because the guy on the other side was hot late.
I mean, Joe Burrow was like Jason from Friday,
or Jason Friday, 13th hockey basketball.
Who's the guy that just sneaks up behind you?
And he doesn't run, he just walks.
Michael Myers?
Michael Myers, yeah.
Joe Burroughs more like that guy.
Like you just like fuck this guy's if we let him hang around long enough this motherfucker is gonna
He was amazing
But Jimmy was also good at doing what he was supposed to do down the line and get them in the end zone
Hey listen a lot of playmakers on this team if they slide in nobody's gonna see him
Kiddo you mentioned that there's two iconic plays that I'm gonna remember with him
The New Orleans play where he dragged 15 people
I mean you'll never be able to top that and then this catch in a clutch situation
to give them a chance.
It's a shame that gold missed the field goal.
And I'll tell you, an unbelievable play by IUC
not to keep his left foot up
and not go out of bounds on that game winning touchdown.
Incredible.
I watched that replay 20 times.
I don't know how he got his left foot to stay in the air.
Because if that touches, you know,
you never know what happens.
He's on my all, he's on my all, like,
fun to just watch run around here.
Like, it doesn't have to be,
I mean, he happens to be really good at football,
but I could just watch him warm up.
The guy is just a freakish athlete.
And I'm really glad they got him going now because, as you mentioned, they got Debo who they can go 46 on a tight end down tackle around.
You know the old Steve Cochland special.
You used to crush people on that block.
But like when they can do that with that guy, they've got a roll for Ayuk now.
It's just a well-oil machine and they're peeking at the right time.
Burrow, though, absolute dog.
Yeah.
I feel for him.
The last two years have been tough, man.
I had their overwin total last year
as rookie year. They lost as many
close games as anybody in the league
and now this year they're back or against the wall
again. He's got a fucked up finger, but
you know the fourth and five to Jamar
for that touchdown was one of the best
plays I've seen all year. One of the best
throws I've seen somebody make all year.
Escape in the pocket. This guy's just
he gets smoked in overtime, delivers
the ball to Higgins. He's a lot of fun to watch.
And Nick Bosa, before we move on to the
marquee game, was great
in a spot that
really mattered and he's been great all year. I think he's been better in his rookie year.
Alas, we don't pay as much attention because they're not the number one team in the NFC,
but he's been really good. Yeah. And I thought I thought Hubbard and Hendrickson were really good
too and doing what they could against a good Niners offensive line and those two tackles. So
I think they're both playoff teams. I really do. And that was a really fun matchup today. Yep. Yep.
Love to see those two teams slide in. Buffalo, Tampa. Steve, I mean, is this the
best quarterback
duel we've seen all year?
Yeah, probably.
I'm trying to just go back in my head.
I just popped in my head to ask you.
I mean, like, when you got a guy,
like Tom, all right,
he throws a great ball.
The ball to Mike Evans was gorgeous in the end zone.
I mean, like right over Mike I hide,
like the only place you could put it.
But the thing that made me
kind of like,
I was shocked today
was how Spry.
he looked. He looked fucking pliable
today, dude.
Oh yeah, he's getting out. Scramble, sliding.
But I don't just mean like,
I don't know if he did something different with his game socks
or like he took some of the sand out of his feet.
He always wears the three-quarter sleeve
and his throwing arm one was pulled up all day.
So he was like he was showing the bicep.
His biceps out, dude. He's biceps out.
But he also looked like he was just,
you know how some weeks you're fresher?
It felt like he just, he got a second way.
He might have a good tan too.
Yeah, he looked real tan.
Something was going on.
Maybe it was that tan face against the Buffalo all whites.
Well, it could have been that.
He also could have just been fucking mad because he was into it with like Ed Oliver early.
He was into it with our guy from Iowa.
Appanessa, yeah.
And so on the goal line.
He was mad.
And but he took off and picked up three first downs early.
He even threw a couple of balls on the run that I was like, damn.
Like usually he just falls ugly after he makes that throw.
He, I mean, he looks healthy.
and Josh Allen
I mean
it's a one-of-a-kind viewing experience when he's on
when he's slicing and dicing
at the intermediate level, middle of the field
just piss missiles
and then 100 yards rushing
like there's nobody else that can do that
Lamar Jackson it looks different but
Josh
yeah I mean a couple things there
I'll start with Josh is
he's literally like that runaway freight
train when it's going because there's no stopping.
Like when he turns the quarter and he's going up field,
like no one's taking a clean shot on because they're just going to get dump trucks.
Buffalo did exactly what I thought they were going to do today.
I thought they were going to be fighting some adversity coming off that week.
And they fought and they fought and they fought.
But we talked about the ability not to run.
They can't run the ball.
But they didn't hand the ball off to a running back until the third quarter.
On the fake point.
Yeah.
That's the first carry.
Yeah.
Singletary got a handoff.
went 29 yards. On the first run attempt, they got 29 yards. And listen, I've been there a million
times and played on bad teams that had to throw the ball at time because we were trailing in games.
You still have to try and run the ball to give your offensive line a chance. You know it.
When you get in your stance as a defensive front guy and you know they're passing every time,
you are, you're loving life. It's like the old nine on seven drill. Like you guys know it's run.
I love nine and seven. I love it. I love.
Anything that's defined, define it for me.
Exactly.
And that's where you got to take away.
If you're going to define it for me as a defensive lineman,
you have cut half the field for me.
Like you know how it's like quarterbacks cut half the field?
Like if you're going to tell me that you're going to pass the ball 95% of the time.
And here's the thing.
Like you just said it.
They had some success.
Yeah.
And I don't know what it is.
I think it was five.
They ran the ball five times for 59 yards in the second half.
I don't know if they just get spooked when they get down two scores or if like Brian
Davele who's my dude I love him
when he left New England was like
fuck it I'm never going to be like them we're going to
throw the ball around the yard but I just
don't get it man like
I said this on Mina's podcast a couple
weeks ago I was like literally
they're going to have to just go QB run
game and that's what I would do
I would burn the ships I don't know
if I would do it late in the season unless I had
to but if we slide in the playoffs
and I'm the bills I'm putting in a whole
package like not even the package we have right now
I'm going to put in a package where Josh Allen gets 10 carries a game.
You know, and you can book it.
And he had 100 yards today.
And it's terrifying.
Like when he turns the corner and those two guards that are smaller than him,
and he's like pushing those guards out of the way, he's like, guys, guys, get the fuck out of my way.
It's scary.
I got to give props to Winfield.
I love him.
Love watching him play.
That's a fearless dude.
That QB pulled that he had two pullers around the side, picked up some steam.
One of the pullers, I think, had Winfield on his heels, and Alan ran right into him.
Winfield hit him face up, was about to get, you know, trucked, disengaged as he's going backwards,
and then shot at the guy's legs and got him down.
So, one, he's not afraid of him, and two, he actually found a way to get big, some bitch down.
Yeah, it's going to give up, you're going to give up a couple yards, but, hey, after seeing a bunch of these guys not willing to tackle,
I happen on Fournette
I got a lot of respect
I got oh just dive
dive but some great blocking dude
oh worse on the backside that was nuts
how about I mean how about Donovan
out in space Donovan
Donovan fucking flatback in somebody
gronk with a really
great wheel and turn like Steve Cockland
Circa no chance no chance
I was ever doing that no you had the hands
and you were driving the car
no chance
they were out in space they were
And Lenny is, he's peeking at the right time.
Same thing with Grunk.
So this team is scary.
We knew it.
Yep.
Last year they were scary and they didn't have it figured out.
They're a totally different team this year as far as like, you know,
they have some different deficiencies that have been, you know, accentuated.
But they, at this point last year, I feel like we were watching New Orleans kick their ass 383.
Yeah.
So.
Yeah.
And I think, I think Tom's obviously shown too.
Like they don't have, or at least they haven't shown it yet,
they don't have the capability of how hot that defense was in the playoffs last year.
So he knows he's got to be better.
And it just amazes me seeing it week in and week out for this amount of years.
Watch the throws he has to Gronk and how he always gets Gronk in the right direction
with where he puts the ball on him.
Whether he's running to speed out to keep him running outside,
whether he runs a stop, it throws the ball on the inside.
Because you know the defender's coming from the outside and he can get up the seam.
It's amazing what he's,
could still do with ball placement. It's amazing to watch. It's a lot of little things,
man. And sometimes you'll think, oh, he fucked up and you'll be like, all right, Troy, stop caping
for him or Tony, stop cape. But honestly, a lot of the times, like Brady threw a ball against
Washington in the red zone, like a month ago or whenever they played. And it was low. It was off
target, but I'm convinced that he was trying not to get his Godwin killed. You know, and I think
at home, you're like, oh, Brady missed the throw. What's the big deal about this fucking guy,
you know, all the haters? There are times that he's so bad.
ball placement aware and with Grom, you want to keep that big body moving.
Pay attention to where he's placing that ball.
Sometimes it's like art.
Josh Allen, too.
It's a little thing, but I feel like he's really growing.
I think it's third down in the red zone.
98 pops out.
98's the end.
He's got somebody in the back of the end zone.
98 who's rushing pops out a little fire zone type blitz.
And Alan just floats it and hits the mask.
Scott, but like in a split second identifies that and burns it.
You know, he's just making mature decisions.
The big thing I want to see out of this team is just consistency.
I really don't get it.
And you and I have talked about the wrong game.
So we'll see.
Huge game for them coming up.
Every game's going to be huge.
Kind of do-or-die-time for them.
Yeah, they still have the three home games against Carolina, Atlanta, and the Jets.
So I think they're 10 and 7.
I mean, they could go to New England and win, no doubt.
But I think they're in.
I think they're a playoff team.
like I said, I just want to see them.
You have three capable running backs, too, when they're healthy,
and Breedah and Singletary and Moss.
Like, those guys all have their different deal.
You just got to do it.
And then you mentioned the quarterback runs, give them 10.
Give me five runs where they, he just gives it.
And then you still get the action where they have to respect Josh on the outside.
So plenty good in the way they rebounded from Monday night's bad performance.
So I have no issues.
I mean, we all have issues with every team.
I still think Buffalo's playoff team.
I would like to see them in.
One of the best, most exciting quarterbacks in the league would be a shame if he's sitting at home.
I'm going to look right at them and be like, why couldn't you run the ball?
All right.
Before I let you go, Steve, I told you I was going to ask you, bang the gavel on the DPO.
Yep.
If it's stopped today, if the wheel stops spinning, who's taking that hardware home?
Who I think's going to take it home is Michael Parsons, who I would vote for is Miles Garrett.
Give me a why.
I think Miles Garrick gets held more than anybody in the NFL.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, like, it's assault.
I mean, it's every, it's every life.
I watch it every single.
It's just, it's amazing to me.
After seeing him in person a couple weeks ago and then seeing him today
and then still see what he's able and capable to do, it's, it's, it's care.
I just, he is that guy.
Yeah.
I'm not taking anything away from Parsons, but I still think if you're going to be a rookie
and win it, I don't see more.
You know, my whole thing, and I might get my kid, and this is Sacrilege. Some Eagles fans are going to be pissed.
I might get my kid in Michael Parsons jersey.
You know, like, just because I just...
Sharp one.
Hey, listen, it seems like a great kid, too.
So I'm not saying this because I don't think he's the best thing since sliced bread.
I just as a defensive end, I feel like we might be moving the goalposts a little bit.
Miles Garrett has a chance to break the sack record.
He's going to be right at 19 weeks.
17, week 18.
I'm just telling you that's how it's going to go.
And Micah's great.
They move them around a lot,
which can also be a benefit to him.
Yep.
Sunday, Steve, man,
there's a lot of fun to catch up with you
in the wake of all these wonderful games that,
by the way, man,
I was all over,
this is the worst slate for about 45 minutes of football
in the 1 p.m.'s and then everything changed.
Yep.
Yeah, the 4 o'clock was nuts.
Same thing, too.
And I'm pretty sure it's going to be the best thing Scott saw tonight on the show.
But that throw by Herbert today is absolutely incredible.
Unbelievable.
Had to get it.
That's the noise it made too.
Like a bomb in the 40s.
You know, with all the sound of it.
It was unbelievable.
Take it easy, buddy.
My man, I appreciate you.
All right.

time to pass out some mentions and get this show on the road how about that fact okay okay okay
sounds like a good deal okay like a deal of the week kind of thing it sounds like the real deal okay
so there's a huge game tonight rams at cardinals how do you think how are you thinking about it
i don't i'm not because i probably shouldn't even watch it i'm on a heater let's stop right where we are
but if I was betting it,
like say tomorrow at 8 p.m.
Right when the kids go to bed,
I would probably bet the Cardinals.
I don't think the Rams have gotten better
since they got throttled.
Y'all remember that game.
I think we were in Philly for the Chiefs game.
Defense been getting after people.
I mean, like, and Matt Stafford
got Buddy lead the last couple weeks.
So you know who I'm talking about?
The jeans guy.
That gets blown up and destroyed.
Yeah, Jacksonville was just, yeah, it was ugly.
It was a jackass stunt.
It was like, here, you get hit by two angry Jaguars.
They're mad at Urban Meyer.
They're going to fuck you up.
Man.
Yeah, dude.
So I think the Cardinals jump them.
I do.
That might be the public bet, but I think the Cardinals.
Let's give out the mentions right off the bat.
Cowboy, what do you want us to go first with?
It's here in O way
We'll jump around the board
Yeah I mean this one's easy read
I was gonna go to somebody else
But I'll just give it to Micah Parsons
Guys an alien
Defensive player of the year
Rookie of the year
Listen you were on the DPOI thing like
Hey make sure we run that back
A for all the Twitter
When the time is right guys
Make sure we do the right thing
So I can troll everyone
What that you were right?
Yeah that was right
I don't think you were alone
I just disagreed six weeks ago
Yeah I know
And I still think it's
It's a very tight race between him and Miles.
OA Award easy for me, Micah Parsons.
We'll hear a best plane ride.
I'll go Falcons.
I really will.
You know, it's just short, quick.
I mean, like, Atlanta is so close to Charlotte.
It's incredible.
You grow up, your whole life, you think Atlanta's way down there.
Atlanta's like, isn't Atlanta way up north there?
Atlanta's closer to being, what?
Tennessee or South Carolina?
Am I fucking up the geography there?
No, you're right.
Definitely closer to South Carolina than it is to Florida.
Very close to Jacksonville, only a few hours away.
Yeah, it's funny you mentioned Atlanta.
I was looking at the standings, and they're now in a big group of teams in the NFC at six and seven.
There's actually five teams that are now six and seven.
So they got at San Francisco next week.
They likely need to win that.
Right now they have a 12% chance of making the playoffs,
but if they can beat San Francisco and then Detroit, they'd be up to 50%.
Holy shit.
There's a chance.
Falcons best plane ride.
Worst?
Okay.
So, like, I'm going to knock two out right here.
Worst plane ride is the Steelers.
They literally, no matter what happened this Sunday,
you could have had to make an emergency landing somewhere.
Toilet could have got clogged, like, whatever,
flock of geese like we flew into in St. Louis.
Yeah.
That's a shocker.
Yeah, it's a shocker.
Doesn't matter.
This was worse.
The way the Steelers played Thursday was some of the most.
uninspiring football I've ever seen.
And like, I've played, like, in some pretty uninspiring games.
Like, for a Steelers team to play like that, especially on defense, wild.
I'm not going to yell about it because I could give a shit.
I'm just telling you what I saw.
The holes that Dalvin Cook ran through were the size of, like, two-lane highways, man.
I'm not even, like, it was a lane.
There were, like, a highway lane.
the guy's you were worried about his pack or his his shoulder right
Dalvin's shoulders banged up
I don't think he got hit all night
it was incredible and then TJ was out so
the worst part was Claypool making two three big mistakes
early in the game and then like got benched
they put him back out on the field
at the end of the game in two minute the very play after
I am typing a tweet in two minute
just like holy shit
shit, I'm irritated.
I don't know if it was James Washington or Deontay Johnson.
One of them grabbed the ball and like kind of just discarded it after a play.
And the clock's running.
Like you know and I know and we're linemen and watch two minutes.
Like watch the coach.
You hand the ball to the referee.
Even I can, you know what I mean?
I know that rule.
You know what I mean?
I can sound smart.
If you just pay attention a little bit in meetings, it's just like it should be verbatim in your muscle memory.
Anyways, I feel like people have beat this thing to a pulp.
But yeah, it was frustrating.
And then Claypool gets up and does the, like, and his arms are long as shit.
So it took forever.
He was like, and then the worst part was his center is like coming over to try to help him.
And he gets mad at his center.
Or not his center was Trey Turner.
They're arguing about something.
Clock's ticking.
And guess what?
At the end of the game, I mean, he put the ball right on Friermouth.
That's part of it.
and Harrison Smith made a huge play.
With all the crazy shit that happened there,
Harrison Smith was awesome all night.
What a football player he is.
But they, if they had one more play,
I feel like they get another decent shot at the end zone.
Maybe two more plays.
Stuff adds up.
They do not look like a Mike Tomlin coach team at all.
Like top to bottom at all.
They do not look like it.
He is a coach that I feel like preaches the small things
and doing your job and doing it right and penalties and things that push you back is unacceptable
and for penalties to happen like they did especially the Claypool I know that grinds his gears
like Peter Griffin Claypool's the Hollow Man dude so we've got Hollow Man on the worst flight
nobody could find him they were like where's Chase Claypool he's invisible Kevin Bacon
And I'm surprised that Claypool saved Irbyr Meyers and the Jacksonville Jaguars.
I for sure thought that would have been your worst.
You thought the Jags was going to be the worst.
And listen, Jags, it's a dumpster fire right now.
I've been on bad teams, like really bad teams, right?
One in 15 teams.
I've been on worst teams than this fucking team.
Okay.
They've got some football players on this team.
I bet you he wish he didn't have to take that plane ride home.
Yeah.
Yeah, where were they, though?
Tennessee?
Oh, boy.
Urban Meyer and Electric Avenue or whatever that is.
Oh, my God.
He would have a blast.
He would just be, like, yeah.
Cotton and I, Joe, and all that.
All that, line dancing.
Anyways, said I wasn't going to have fun with it,
but, you know, it's toxic down there.
Supposedly he and Shot Khan talk for 15 minutes after the game
or something like that.
I don't even know what that means.
but I hope they were talking about whatever it is that everybody else is talking about
because there are grown men risking health down there playing football.
It's a game we all agree to play,
but there should be a standard of like normalcy within the workplace.
You know, for us to be going through this shit.
He probably was losing, dude.
He probably was asking him what products Shah Khan used this for his mustache.
Yeah, he's got a good stash.
He has a great stash.
Anyways, that probably is my.
my fly on the wall though because all this of course culminated in the urban
Meyer like deadest fish handshake I've ever seen like if I was reading the the grip
strength on that handshake based upon the look on his face I would give it a zero
like it was just a a fleshy glob and Mike Brable had to like that's the
worst revive it that's the worst Brable coached under him right
at Ohio State?
We were talking about this read?
Damn, that doesn't feel like a handshake.
That doesn't seem like there's a respect factor there.
My fly on the wall would be,
I bet you Vrable, I don't know.
I wonder if he called him.
I wonder, because you figure he's got his number.
You figure, like, I can get his number.
Hey, what the fuck was that about?
And also, like, this isn't college football, dude.
Like, the thing you think about you, that's me.
Like, I'm that guy.
You're not that guy.
You know what I mean?
And that's a tough pill to swallow sometimes.
I don't know what that was about, dude.
I didn't think there was bad blood between those guys, but whatever.
Hey, you know I arrived with Mike Vrable, dude.
I think if I was at a bar and Mike Vrable started like fighting somebody, I would just jump in.
Yeah, I got your back.
I would just jump in and try to, I grab a bar stool and break it on somebody's back.
You have to be a drunk, you have to be a drunk dummy to, to, to, to,
try Mike Vrabel.
Like, for real.
Like, that's like, that's like...
You think somebody at the rodeo could beat up Mike Vrabel?
I mean, I don't think so.
I think there's guys that are crazy enough to try him, but to win?
Nah, those guys are small.
How many rodeo guys would it take?
Three?
I would say a good three.
Yeah, probably.
But like, the only thing, the only disadvantage, those guys, those guys know how to use
ropes and shit.
So you got to think about that.
They wrote cattle, bro.
Bro, that a moving cat.
Yo, that shit is amazing, bro.
You're not just going to be able to rope Mike Vrable, dude.
No, no, no, no, no, no.
No, no, no.
They will.
Bro, they're roping live cattle running from their horse.
Bro, it's Mike Vrable.
He has multiple arms.
Nah, nah.
He's not moving like these cattle, bro.
These cattles are 250.
Bro, these cows are 300 pounds, bro.
Bro, Mike Vrabble is 250.
He has opposable thumbs.
Get that fucking rope off me, little guy.
Listen, the event, they rope the cattle, jump off the horse.
Listen, jump off the horse while the horse stays still and lets the line get tight.
And they have to go grab this 300-pound cattle.
Mike Brable would break these guys' brains with clock management and manipulation of the clock.
Nope, it's too quick.
It happens like that, bro.
I wouldn't even be able to throw his rope.
He'd be like, well, fuck.
Bro, winning times are like, did he just take that penalty on purpose?
Eight to nine seconds, bro.
He wouldn't have a chance.
Okay.
I'm telling you.
I don't appreciate this.
I'm telling you.
Brable minus 300.
Rodeo guy plus whatever.
Yeah, I'm taking that.
Yeah, there's no way Brable's getting hogtowed.
Nobody's roping fucking Braves, dude.
Yeah, listen, if there's any rodeo...
If there's any rodeo guys out there, hey, hit us up because we'll use you.
We're going to get Logan Paul to set this shit up.
Rodeo guy and NFL coach fight.
Let's get this train back on the track.
You mentioned you had a surprise best plane ride.
I've been waiting for it.
Oh, surprise.
Surprise.
Tony Elliott to Virginia.
Tony Elliott.
He landed in Charlottesville.
Beautiful day in Seville.
Oh, my God.
60 degrees, whatever it was.
Tony Elliott, new head coach of the Virginia football team.
And I'm excited about it.
I really am, man.
Carla got this thing.
Welcome.
Welcome.
Welcome.
Welcome.
Welcome.
him and I cannot wait for the new regime to start and he welcomed you four times coach because
I'm really I'm excited man I'm excited no question wah-hu-wah wah-hu-a yeah the only thing we got left here
is uh we got a couple here viewing party how about the astronauts watching herbert's deep ball that was a
read submission read that was that's that's poetry dude fucking astronauts up there watching that
that RPG launch of football 300 feet in the air.
It had some height on it for sure.
Holy shit, dude.
Probably passed by a window or two of the International Space Station.
Probably, ISS.
Fucking Russell threw that moon ball earlier,
and this thing just totally emasculated that throw.
I mean, like every dude in the stadium,
after he threw that ball, like looked at his wife
to see how she was looking at Dustin Herbert, dude.
It's like it's really one of those things like playing guitar
Yeah singing yeah throwing a football 67 yards in the air dude dude
You got it bro you got it that was herbert that was ridiculous
Unbelievable he's rare he's very rare maybe for the Pro Bowl yeah they should do like a pump pass and kick contest
Maybe they should do that because that's that excitement of seeing him throw that kind of pass and kind of knowing that other like think about that
that. Mac Jones. Like, just like those guys throwing, that should be excited.
Mac Jones running out of a tunnel in Jim shorts and a white t-shirt, play 60. Why not?
I mean, that shit could be funny, actually. Was there anybody toiling in anonymity today?
There was. The L.T.L. Memorial Award. There was. His name was Hunter Renfro. Dude, he's about to go
like 1,000 yards, 100 catches. And the funniest shit about this is last year when he said after
the game, like Jalen Ramsey effectively doesn't.
scare me, which, you know what, Jalen
Ram's got to respect that.
Fucking, you're crazy, man,
but you're, you know, like, I respect it.
And he's playing it out on the field.
He's played really well. He's played really
well. So Hunter Renfro,
I mean, today, they got,
I mean, Andy Reid's
boot is still in that ass, dude.
Like, they just, it was
wedged. Bro, it was
unbelievable how quickly they jumped that team.
But Hunter Renfro, he's
coming up on, I think a
catches, thousand yards.
So real dude.
He was such a like a supporting cast member.
It felt like was kind of the way he'd be pegged.
But he's been a real centerpiece for them.
Yeah, STL Memorial.
Absolutely.
And then lastly,
Beville Conway.
I'll let you pick this week, man.
The Bears and Packers or Army Navy.
I was just about to say,
I'm taking it to college and the Army Navy.
You're kissing up to the troops.
You're kissing up to the rodeo guys, the troops.
But listen, honestly, it was the Army's jerseys that really took the cake.
Yeah.
I mean, they always set the bar for this game with the jerseys.
You got the digital camo and all these other cool.
They've had bad years before, though, too.
No, yeah, for sure.
And this year, when you turn it on, I feel like everyone at some point was like,
ooh, these are nice jerseys.
Absolutely.
Hey, listen, happy birthday to you.
And if you follow Nate, you'll know exactly what it is
because he'll post a solo picture of himself standing by like a hotel elevator.
Let's go!
In a nice outfit.
Cancun is not ready for Dr. Fax.
Nate, I'm going to give the Game Ball to us.
It was a really good show.
We had a good show tonight.
I think it was a good show.
The tuxedo thing was just, I can't get over that, dude.
I still thinking about it.
It's fucking up my focus.
All right, so Game Ball goes.
To us, man.
I love it.
Yeah, we just hit it out of the park.
Your tuxedo thing was great.
And we'll be back Wednesday with Bill Simmons.
See how I just fucking just said that?
Bill Simmons.
That's lit.
Y'all take care.
