All of a sudden, like, bam, you know, the cage doors close.
How do you flip the switch like that?
You know what I mean?
It's incredible.
I think it just goes from literally having a good time to sound as kill or be killed now.
Right.
If I don't switch on, he's going to kill me.
Pow, pow!
Take it the day to day!
Like, yeah.
I think I will eventually move up to 170, but for now, I can still make 155.
Why would they go up and fight?
Much bigger men.
Right.
I don't know.
Yeah?
Yes.
Yes.
What are you changing to go to the American accent?
What are you doing?
I don't even know.
You just do it?
I always laugh when people try and do a Scouse accent.
People can't do it.
The Scouse sounds more Irish to me than English.
Yeah, no, yeah.
Everyone says that.
Like, I keep getting asked in a marish.
Well, your name's also Paddy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
My favorite ones are saying in American accent, I thought,
was, get that on the ground.
It's not so.
Oh, just wait.
We'll get going.
We'll get going.
guy's fault that it's called soccer.
Don't go to.
Joke him out, Patty.
Get his eyes.
Oh, God.
All right.
Can I intro us,
please,
for the love of God.
Let me actually formalize this
in some capacity.
All right.
We don't do formal.
We don't.
We don't.
And informal.
Welcome to a little special edition
of the Greenlight Pod.
We're here in Philadelphia.
I'm joined by one of the UFC's finest.
Great dude.
Fucking stallion.
Patty the Batty Pimblatt.
And a good buddy in mine.
podcaster,
father of four,
Super Bowl champion,
Jason Kelsey.
Recording here from the Kempton,
Monaco.
Thanks,
guys.
A great setup,
great hotel.
A lot of fun.
Guys,
welcome.
Happy to be here,
guys.
Happy to be third wheel
on this Lake Cuomo
love affair.
You can sound where you guys met,
right?
Quomo.
Yeah.
You can come to Como with us.
Is it Como?
Yeah.
Knock,
I was going to say,
what's Cuomo?
I don't know.
I'm never been to you.
Callmo.
Colso has to sound Euro so bad,
dude.
Like the politician.
Como.
Yeah.
No,
Como,
yeah.
You would have liked it,
Kels.
I've heard good things.
You should have seen the football stadium
where Como plays,
like,
dude,
how sick is that?
It is.
It's a beautiful place as well,
just in general.
Everywhere around there.
Lovely,
that.
Yeah.
What team plays out of there?
Like Como?
Yeah.
Como?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know that was a shout out to Guseppe.
Maddie's,
uh,
Mattie's,
uh,
future brother-in-law works for the club.
And they,
that's right.
That's right.
It was.
Marwan. Marwan's a G.
My mind is remembering.
Yeah.
Coming back to you.
But they're actually in there.
I get hit in the head.
They're actually in the Champions League next year.
So they're going up.
Now they've come forth in their league, which means you qualify for the biggest competition in Europe.
Yes.
So it's like a continental competition.
And they're in that next season.
So they'll have like games on a Tuesday and Wednesday night at home.
And I think a night game in that stadium would be unbelievable.
It's awesome.
It's like right on the lake.
there's the mountains in the backdrop it's not a big stadium so it's like completely
sold out and then like we were just sitting there it was so cool you see the lake in the
background like everyone's kicking the mountains so awesome i've never had a sporting experience
like that like it was fucking and it'll feel small to use as well because the stadium's only about
15 000 something like that yeah total field it definitely feels small to use because
just playing like 60 70 000 fees of stadiums right yeah it's awesome i'd love to check it out
And just because of how big is are, as well, to be fair, look even smaller.
Patty thinks how big Kelsey, you hear that?
Yeah.
So Patty, first time in Philadelphia, man.
I mean, what's it like?
You're in Philly.
Obviously, like, you're, you know, you're well-traveled.
You're from Liverpool.
And first time in Philadelphia joined here by a Philadelphia legend,
Eagles, all-time Eagles, Legends, Super Bowl champ, elite podcaster.
And then also Jason Kelsey.
Yeah.
There we go.
I was waiting for it.
Yeah.
Exactly.
But what are your,
what are your impressions of Philly?
I like it.
No, I mean,
I've heard loads about Philly
because I've obviously blazed me
videographer,
does all my YouTube and my social media and stuff.
Yeah.
He's from Havatar.
So I've heard so much about a Philly
and he has said to me before
because he,
when he comes to Liverpool,
he feels like,
Philly's like what Liverpool's like
in the UK,
in America.
Yeah.
And I feel what he means like,
just being here.
few days. I understand what he's saying.
And the one thing you still
haven't done yet. We've been here two days
we're going to get on today. I haven't had a cheese steak.
Yeah, that's a problem. But that's something that.
We're going to rectify it. Don't worry. It's going
to get sold. We're going to end up eating about
five of them. Nice.
So, so far, we've had some good food.
We've met some good people.
Yeah, I've totally enjoyed me time.
Yeah, you think so you're talking about
the comparisons with Liverpool, like,
I was thinking, Kels, because there's a lot of
Philly slang, you know what I mean?
like you know what john is you ever heard of blaze you said yeah i've heard him say john i mean i just
feel like there's a lot of comparisons like people seem you know people in philly are a special
blend had he uses loads of my slang now i know i was with his dad yesterday and his dad saying he just says
random words i was just like what's he saying my favorite one is heavy yeah heavy is such a
universal word as well heavy can mean so many things yeah like if someone like we walk out in the
street now and someone gets ran over or something you got
oh, it's heavy that.
Yeah.
Or you've just had a naughty scram.
Like,
like, that scram was heavy.
Like, Patty, you got to turn the subtitles on.
Yeah.
Sometimes I don't know what the fuck you're talking about, man.
Or even like him.
Scramble eggs, you know,
you're scrimmed,
you know.
Yeah,
yeah,
totally.
He's talking about a bird.
So that's,
we,
a female.
Ah.
Someone allowed to go,
well,
she's heavier.
Yeah.
Like,
there's so many.
But that's a good thing.
You call,
no,
yeah,
that's a girl heavy.
That's good.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We call a girl heavy in the United States.
It's not going to go.
Yeah.
Go home and say that to Kyle.
You see how that goes.
Oh, Kyle.
You're heavy today.
Oh, man.
I'm fucked.
We're not sorry about weighting on like that.
Yeah.
Oh, shit.
So Liverpool's similar to Philadelphia in like a working class town.
Yeah, exactly.
So I didn't, I don't know anything about like the subdivisions within the UK and England.
I grew up just playing FIFA.
So my soccer team.
was Chelsea.
Yeah.
And now knowing it more,
I feel like I should move on from Chelsea.
What would you say?
Yeah.
Is Chelsea like the kind of stuck up?
A little bit.
Chelsea,
like no one knew Chelsea was before 2003.
Yeah.
Chelsea got bought by a billionaire owner
and everything he's won us since that in 2003.
No one knew what he was before.
that same with man city but
gotta give man city to do
they've got proper hardcore fans from before
they got both sure they had
like a big fan base anyway
but the main
the main teams in the UK
of Liverpool and Man United
most history biggest fan bases
I'm just like I was a fan to like players
I liked international football
more because that's what was on in the country
in the states more
woke up international play
I just like John Terry a lot
I love that dude back in
Yeah he's a brilliant defender
John Terry like brilliant defender
And what I used to like about him is
He'd stick his head in anyway
Yeah exactly
He'd get no matter if the ball was getting kicked there
And he couldn't get his foot to it
He'd starve his head at it
Yes
Like he'd sacrifice himself for the team
Sure
What'd you think of the World Cup this year
Um
There was some good games
But yeah
I'm not a big fan of international football
All right
I don't really like when I was when I was in the UK at the start of the World Cup before it flew out for my fight I don't think I watch the game I like to watch the first 30 minutes of the first game because I was playing paddle when it was on yeah after we finished it was on the telly it was Mexico South Africa and then after that I didn't watch any games still have come to America and was on the same time zone because I'm not I'm not staying up until two in the morning to watch that's why we don't watch the Premier League and everything over here as much as much we don't watch as much we're going to be as much we
because the games are bad times.
I'm not staying up until 2 in the morning.
Watch up Uzbekistan play Algeria.
It's not happening.
Is that the predominant?
Like, do people over in the UK care more about Premier League than international?
Every Premier League team will care more about the club.
Sure.
But lower league teams will proper supporting them because that's the best chance they've got of their team winning a big trophy.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
But most Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, United City,
them sort of fans aren't really too fuss about the international team.
You would rather Liverpool win a Premier League championship.
I'd rather Liverpool win the Carlin Cup.
Is that what it is?
Yeah, which is like the worst Soviet can win.
What?
It's the way so for you can win.
The lowest trophy.
Yeah, it's like the lowest.
Yeah.
Oh my gosh.
I'd rather than England win the World Cup.
I'd probably Liverpool rather win a corner.
England win the World Cup.
All right.
I'm a Liverpool fan, I mean, I'm not international fuss.
He just doesn't, no, doesn't do it for me at all.
Let me tell you about international footy, Patty.
The Eagles are playing in London.
Yeah.
Coming up here, what was it, October 11th?
Yeah, I think it was October 11th.
Yeah.
What did, uh, would you think your first, uh, Eagles practice yesterday?
The practice is a belter.
Yeah.
Was.
I totally enjoyed that yesterday.
Yeah, so Patty, Kelsey goes to practice every day because he's like a wannabe coach.
I'm a loser.
He's like, oh, you look like a high school coach out there, bro.
I was died.
He had 94 pinion.
And I wore 94 in Philly.
And I was like, because he got a three-point stance as an ed rusher.
I look bad.
So Kels goes to practice just about every day.
He's got a locker at the facility.
It's fucking hilarious.
I love it.
He's hands at by one side.
Is he fishing for the job yet?
Yeah.
I got to keep my options.
I said, Kel's got his hands full.
He's got four fucking daughters.
All right.
He's doing okay.
But then it was Patty's first kind of experience.
with, I don't know, American football.
He was calling it handball.
It's American handball.
You touch it with your hands more.
Exactly.
You touch it with your hands more,
so it should be American handball.
They only kick it like, what,
six, seven times a game,
something like that.
Ideally none.
Exactly.
Only kick all is pretty much.
Ideally none.
You don't even want to kick it,
but it's called American football.
It just doesn't make sense to me.
What did you think of practice?
Like, what did you think of the guys?
Like, the structure of it?
There's some freak athletes there.
Like, scary.
The calves on some people were bigger than my fucking ass.
People like calves, that big, lad.
It's going on here.
I mean, Sequan, bro, Sequan's legs are fucking, dude, I fucking love that guy.
He came up, he was talking to us after.
I was looking at his calves like you're talking about it.
It just feels like a work of art, bad.
Haves, his quads, everything.
He just chiseled.
He didn't have any shoes on either.
He was just barefoot.
He was just floating barefoot.
It was an awesome, bad.
But there was, I mean, it was kind of a physical.
practice too yesterday.
I think you inspired everybody
because in camp like there's a lot of
you get sick of going to
what you think of the fight?
Yeah,
I was shocked.
What did you think of the technique?
I was holding him back.
He was using his hands pretty good.
When it went off at first and I was like,
ooh, what's going on here?
This is tasty, but then it got split up.
Yeah.
And then as soon as everyone line back up to run the play again,
Bow just turned to me and went,
it can happen again.
Yeah.
And I was like, surely not.
And then literally two seconds later,
throwing things at each other
and then shooting double legs and that
yeah we were all surprised they didn't take them out
because usually you're in a fight the coaches take you out
so everybody can calm down for a second
Nick left a minute it's like
they're definitely going to get back in it to say it
this has not been settled yet
it was the end of practice too though
it was like such a vet move you get a fight at the end of practice
you cut a couple periods off you know
Connor got in a fight on purpose one time
because it was just hot out yeah
just got to end this practice early
just saying mad throwing punch as well
people have got helmets on them.
That's a accent.
You're usually open hand.
That's what I said.
If anything you're going to go open on,
because if you throw a punch,
it's going to eat your knuckles.
Yeah.
Break your hand.
It's always interesting how you fight in different sports.
Like hockey,
they grab the jerseys.
Yeah.
Grab onto each other,
and then there's like a whole strategy
on like,
they grab the jersey on their right hand
if they're dominant.
You try and push that away
and whey on here.
Football, there's not a lot of punching.
It's mostly like a wrestling match.
We used to,
uh,
we used to like,
you know,
you have a fight,
there's a big scrub.
Everyone,
like all your boys are kind of coming in from the sidelines.
What we do is we grab them like hockey
and then kick him in the shins.
And then kick him in the shins.
That would be,
like,
yeah.
Shins.
It's terrible.
It is so bad.
Obviously,
you got to meet a bunch of players,
uh,
which is like kind of fun because like,
you know,
you don't really know.
I'm like,
you don't know football that well.
And these are stuck guys.
But I think you've met one of Philly's finest,
which is Big Dom for the first time.
Big Dom was great,
bud.
Yeah.
I mean, you talk about a guy who's like kind of become a Philly legend.
Like, it's been fun watching Dom kind of lean into his,
his newfound persona, you know what I mean?
I mean, I guess it's not newfound, but gaining popularity and all that kind of stuff.
It's the best.
The fucking man.
Incredible.
The way he had tracksuit bottoms on, lad, and I've roasted off day.
I don't know what I mean?
It's like, all day every day.
He's just a caricature with the tracksuit on, man.
It's the best.
I've never seen him not wear a track suit.
At Lane's wedding, I feel like he was wearing a track suit.
Track suit.
It's fucking...
I think I've seen him in a suit one time.
Yeah.
Do you think there's a lot of NFL players
that could be professional fighters?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Just the act of the freak athleticism
that they've got known.
I mean, it's just, as I say,
what we were saying before,
it's more the weight divisions.
Sure.
Because I just say, some of them are $380.
And the big dudes.
Yeah.
It's not like the outer shape
300 and $380 pounds either.
They've got your muscle definition.
So I like, I've always said,
I think the UFC should have a super heavyweight division.
I always think you should have a cruiserweight division
like 2.30.
Got it.
Yeah.
So if some of them done MNA, yeah, it would be, it'd be scary.
What is the biggest thing to be successful?
UFC, is it athleticism, length, like?
Toughness.
Mindset.
Yeah, I think it's mindset.
Oh, I think it's your mindset plays such a big part.
Like, such a big part.
If you don't think you're going to win going in there,
I don't think you're going to win.
But do you ever,
I'll listen to Mike Tyson talk about,
you know, he's training to fight the same.
guy and he's been trained to like fear him and fear these punches and whatnot and he talks about
that but then he says the moment he steps in the ring he's just ultra confident that he's been
like yeah are you confident the entire time is there a moment in training where you're like you respect
them oh you know how does that moment in training and where you doubt yourself yeah definitely yeah
like especially on days when you come in you're tired and someone else is getting the better of you
and stuff like that you're not the things you've been working on you can't get off sure you do feel
like that a bit but then you've got to remember
remember at the same time the people that you're doing that within the gym know what
you're trying to do.
Yeah.
When you're actually getting in the cage with the person you're fighting, they don't know what
you're going to try and do.
Right.
And that worked perfect in my last fight because I had a lad saying in the gym with Matt,
who was very good rest left, a little bit similar to BSD, but not very similar.
Yeah.
But his submission defense was much better than BSDs.
Wow.
And when I was working stuff against him, it was harder to get.
So then when I got in the cage and I just wrapped his neck once and that was it.
It's crazy.
I feel the same way in football.
Like when you,
the times I was nervous
going to do the game
is when I didn't prepare.
I didn't do everything in training.
If everything happened in training
and I went into the game,
I was always confident.
Yeah.
It's kind of,
when you go and prepared,
I feel like that alleviates a lot of that.
And I have the saying,
there's no point in being nervous
when you know you're going to win.
That's like one of my things that I say.
And the only time in the UFC
I've ever got any bit of nerves
before I've walked out of a year is when I lost.
Yeah.
I don't know I mean literally that's the only when I thought gauggy
was the only time that like when I was before it was in the back
in the locker room was like a bit of a weird feeling here yeah and then
stood before we're walking out it was like this just doesn't feel right
I mean I just didn't feel like I normally do and then I have I felt it
coming yeah dude that was so cool about that fight against BSD is like you
coming out your walkout song like bro you're fucking hype you look happy as fuck
you're loving it you know dancing and then
all of a sudden like bam you know the cage doors close how do you flip the switch like that you
know what i mean it's incredible i think it just goes from literally having a good time to
sound as kill or be killed now right if i don't switch on he's gonna kill me that's what i think
like when there might be thousands of people in the stadium and millions of people watching my home
for the only people in this world that matter to me him and the ref that's it because the ref will decide
when he wants to stop the fight and then he's starting to kill me so i need to kill him first
that's fucking crazy i mean it's so interesting like you're talking about your prep a little bit and
how much goes into it there's so much prep for football like we're watching tape there's so many
meetings with football like in camp in fucking games we watch we do so much film study like how do you
is that how you prepare too you know what i mean yeah luckily enough that we've got a man in the
gym car on mountfield he does our break dance he'll just do it all this is just a one-man band
just does it on his own but he'll get like he'll get all what the things with so we'll go over like the last five
six seven fights and he'll put like their attacks in green zone orange amber zone red zone for the range
and then he'll do it in the defense of the same same moves and then he'll have to grapple and to take down slide it's
the things he does is boss like it gives us like an hour video yeah just on that fighter like it'll show you
that open and stands show it shows it everything it helps us prepare it helps us
notice things that he repeats and does over and
and notice things where
he catches other people with repeatedly what he's gooder
and it just makes it 10 times easier.
Yeah, I mean, that sounds a lot like what we do to do.
Dude, I always felt more confident,
even if the guy was a star,
I would rather play a guy that I had tape on
and I kind of knew what he did and everything.
Then all of a sudden, a backer would come in.
You had no idea what's going.
It's like, fuck, I don't even know what to do now.
I've been working this one weekend, this one guy,
and now it's the new guy.
So like this last fight, BSD, I remember on Twitter after you choked him, there's a tweet that started going viral of a guy who basically was calling this out.
Like he was like, BSD's open to this type of chokehold or whatever.
Is it the two fellas sitting with like the podcast mics?
I've been watching them.
They are actually, for MMA people online, they are actually very knowledgeable.
Gotcha.
They are.
The one with long air.
Yeah.
Like a white top on.
I can't remember what the page is called.
Yes.
But I've been, I've actually started watching.
them a bit since the fight.
Yeah.
And they've got good takes.
Okay.
When they're talking about stuff,
me and me coach are being watching them.
They're like,
these,
like,
because a lot of people who do that
MMA analyst,
I haven't got a clue
what they're talking about.
It sounds like the,
yeah,
Monday night football.
Well,
everybody in football
a bunch of them.
Most of them
haven't got a clue
what they're talking about
and they just say things.
Of course,
yeah.
But them too seem quite,
quite knowledgeable,
like we've actually done
judgete or done NAA.
Well, this is what,
like,
we were joking about,
like,
looking for a job with the Eagles.
go to the facilities because I have to talk about it
and the game just evolves. Like, do you find
like you see like older school
UFC guys, you're like that's not
the way it's done anymore. Like it's changed.
Our sport is so young
compared to like football and
soccer.
You said.
You say that.
All the year, our sport only starts
them were the 90s.
Yeah. So like our sports, still a baby
compared to all the other sports where they're over like
100 years old. Our sports
and like the amount it's every year
something different comes out
or like new moves or new techniques
and you're just like
no I've never seen that before
I bet you really see that now in football
or I've never seen that
yeah because it's been going for so long
a lot of it goes in like cycles
yeah it'll go out and then all of a sudden
a coach will bring it back like a decade later
whatever when they'll do it like slightly different
with like a different like instead of a fullback
it'll be a tight end or a different position
but like when I first started watching the UFC
in like 2009
10 you could just be good at one thing.
So there was fighters who were just wrestlers.
Right.
Yeah.
There's fighters who were just strikers.
Yeah.
And you could just be good at one thing.
You're right.
There was like, there was like, forget the guy.
It was like karate.
Then there would be like, it was only Jesus.
Then it was all like in groups like that.
Yeah.
That was when it first started.
Yeah.
But then even like, as I say, when I first started watching it,
some fighters were just good at one thing and you could just be good at one thing.
Like Damien Meyer was an unbelievable jihitsu specialist.
But he couldn't throw a punch.
Yeah.
but he was still like getting title shots in the UFC because no one could deal with his grapple.
Then there was people like that, but it was strikers.
Where now, if you haven't got an all-round game, you're going nowhere.
They've got to be good at everything.
Or you're finished, lad.
Let me tell you about our sponsors.
Cains, they are comfy.
I'm here at Eagles training camp.
Listen, as a former player during camp, even if I'm not playing, I'm standing around watching practice,
these dogs are barking.
All right.
The Cains, they keep you.
your toes, your dogs, very happy.
They're really good for recovery.
You know, you're standing around at practice all day,
doing these interviews.
Media, it's a tough job, right?
It's almost as hard as taking on 50 double teams
during the camp practice.
So the cane shoes, they feel good.
They make your dogs feel good
to help you recover.
Thanks, Kane.

My favorite
fighter growing up was Chuck Lidale Iceman.
Yeah. I have the take down defense
and then just like the ability to strike was
awesome watching. Like Tank Abbott.
Yeah. I don't know. He might have been
a super heavyweight today.
A little tank habit, look.
What a recent show.
Back to the submission, though.
So the submission, would that be something like this guy would send you the video?
Would he send you stuff like, hey, when he's going to go for this take down, this is maybe a tell that he has?
Or he leaves his neck exposed when he does it?
Like, how does that work?
All of that.
All that.
We had a tell because literally every, he was on a four-fight win-sick.
One of the fights he'd knocked him about in like 10 seconds.
but the other three within the first 20 seconds
either through a backhand and shot in
or through a high kick and shot in.
Got it.
And that was his thing.
Like he shoots him for your hands up and it shoots.
Yeah.
You get your shoots in from quite far away.
Got it.
So we were like, yeah, we'll work on that choke.
We'll, like, I didn't actually work on that joke.
We were working on my guillotine.
But then Paul said, let's not do a guillotine.
Let's like change and something else because he powers his way out.
And that was where I went for that.
Yeah.
He went on his back and then tried to power his way out.
So I switched to do it.
other grip. So what is, so the, what's the
difference between a guillotine? A guillotine is just like
that right under the neck. So you're, you're holding
your hand like this and you got them right there.
You can do multiple grips. You can demonstrate on
Kelsey if you want. I'm game.
Do we honestly? Don't make me unconscious,
but yeah.
All right, it's just like that with no arm. Well, you can have it with the
arm in or without the arm in, but I had it without the arm
but then I've rotated them to
put him down. He's one on his back, but then he starts
of power out. Yeah. So as he
starts of power out, he's turned that way
and I've slid me on through.
I had it like that with his arm.
And then I feel like you got your...
So his arm is in there.
And that's what changes it from a guillotine.
Yeah.
Yeah, change it from a guillotine.
And what's that called with the arm in?
A dash.
Dash.
Dash.
Dash.
Dash.
Dash.
Like, yeah, I'll say that in America.
Dar's choke.
A dar's a good conversion.
You should have that.
Patty's American accent.
Yes.
He goes, go birds.
It's so fucking funny.
It's so great.
But it's cool.
I mean, dude, so Kelso is like a complete technician.
I was a fucking run stopping nose guard.
But, like, Kel's, we used to talk every day about small things like hand placement
and shit like that.
And it's fun to hear about how that's so similar to fight.
I really do.
There's a lot of similarities between the line plays of, like, techniques and things that fighters do.
Like, if you have good length, use your length to your advantage.
If you're shorter and a little bit quicker, get inside of him and start working his body
and kind of stick him like that.
You're looking at their stances.
Like, if his stance is elongated, probably either going across.
sure he's jetnet if he's more leveled up
he's reading you more like you're kind of trying
to pick up all that stuff while you're watching it so
it's very similar yeah
I got a question we don't get knocked out
yeah
the scouts those don't get knocked out
you know what I've seen a few clips lad though
people get absolutely starts
didn't my brother's had a few
I've seen a few bad ones
yeah yeah
can remember him show me one way someone like
basically
the back went like that
oh yeah
I can't remember who it was
I can remember him
she owned me at someone
like dart into them
and lad
like the feet are touching the floor
and the head is
his head's back
yeah
where they've done
like a
I don't know
the back didn't snap
and then he stood back up
and carried on playing
perfectly fine yeah
jog back to the huddle
I know Josh Allen
has one where I feel like
he bends back like that
but yeah
the game used to be more physical
like violent
all the sports did though didn't he
yeah
all of them like when you watch
basketball
like the Michael Jordan
that era
nowadays
like basketball is kind of
touch each other.
Yeah.
I mean,
hockey,
there was a lot more
fights back in the day.
Yeah.
And then football,
like my type of football,
soccer.
Yeah.
That was one thing I liked about this World Cup was...
It's a non-contact sport now.
Yeah,
you're right.
But now they,
they've been diving for years.
Now they have the VAR thing
and they're starting to catch guys diving.
They don't even do nothing about it,
though, you know?
I've watched,
I've watched players dive in the Prem and like,
go back to VAR and give me yellow card and he don't.
VAR's half ribbon in the sport.
It's so annoying.
the amount of time it takes them to do
same things and that and then they're going back
like five minutes to disallow goals
and stuff like that it's just
it takes like the passion out of the game
yeah it's don't get me wrong
I was at the stadium when we played our
derby match against Everton yeah
at their new ground for the first ever time
yeah and they scored to make up 1-0
and we're all like oh my God what's going on here
this is bad yeah
and then it comes up VAR and the goal gets disallowed
two minutes later and we start celebrating
you're a fan of you are yeah now you're a
But then when it's the other way around
And you're celebrating
And then VIR comes up
It's just like
It just ruins the game
You know what I mean
For the fans every day or live anyway
It just
It half kills the passion off
Because you don't know what they should celebrate
When you score
You've got to look at the screen
And be like
Oh is this going to be a goal?
For sure.
Yeah
Yeah
A sport like football
Where it's continuous
Like there aren't really
A lot of stoppages
Like it doesn't like
In American football
It makes sense
Because it stops every
Second seconds
Right
We can check down
not really breaking up the pace of it.
But dude, you stop a game for five minutes to check a replay.
That changes a lot of things.
Fuck the whole game up.
Yeah.
Takes the momentum.
I'm not to see him that's winning.
Yeah.
Gives the other team a bit of respite.
Yes.
That's the one thing that gets me with American sports.
They're all show stop start.
Yes.
For all of them.
Like even when I've been to basketball games,
timeouts and stuff.
It's good for money.
It's good for adverts.
It's good for adverts.
It's good for YouTube TV commercials.
Yeah.
God.
All right.
Patty,
I got a question for you.
The famous line,
Scowsers don't get knocked out.
How did this come about?
How do I achieve this power?
Keep hanging around with me.
It just rubs off.
I just said,
what fight was that after?
I said that after a fight on Cage Warriors when I was when he won.
Just the kid ate me with a naughty shot.
I think he broke my nose.
But then in the second round,
I submitted them.
And I just come out,
you know what I mean?
I said,
Damaskowse,
we don't get knocked out.
And then it just like stuck.
People kept saying it to me.
And then after I had my debut,
Brisbane absolutely set me up for it,
like, to be fair,
Brisbane,
like, without even me in any event,
well, you almost got knocked out.
And I just come out,
no way,
I just said it.
And then that one interview,
people still say that to me now.
I mean.
It's phenomenal.
I mean.
And then Americans go like,
I'm a scouser.
That's how they're trying to say.
That's my question.
What the fuck is a scouser?
I don't even know what that is.
I've heard it before,
but what is the definition of it?
It's just someone from Liverpool.
That's it.
Yeah, that's it.
It's not like,
not unspecial.
It's just if you're from Liverpool,
like,
where the scouser.
People from Manchester get called monks.
People from London get called Cochneys.
Yeah.
But if you're from,
people from Birmingham get called brummies.
But if you're from Liverpool,
you're a scouser.
What?
How big is Liverpool?
not big at all,
especially when you come to places
in America,
I'm saying this to
I was in San Diego
and I had to fly five hours
to get here
at the same fucking country.
I fly five hours
from Liverpool,
I'm in fucking Turkey.
I'm an hour away from Dubai.
You know what I mean?
Like, what the fuck?
Yeah.
That's crazy,
this country is just so big.
Everything's just on a different scale
yeah.
Sure.
But as I say, like,
where we're staying here.
It's a blazer.
It's like 35,
14 minutes.
Yeah.
If I drove 35, 40 minutes from my house, I'm in Manchester.
Got it.
Like, I'm in a different city.
I'm in a different city.
Yeah.
Like, 40 minute drive, he is not on.
Yeah.
Like a two-hour drive here to people's not on.
I've got an, my dad's cousin, like, my family, he live in Jersey.
And they were saying about coming to see us as well with here because to see the kids.
And I was like, oh, saying it's like a two-hour drive from the hotel.
She was started laughing.
I was like, I knew you'd say that we'll come and see you's one day.
like two hours drive, not on for us.
I was like,
you're mad.
Just sitting in the car for two hours.
Like, if you drove two hours from Liverpool,
you're halfway to London.
You're in Birmingham.
It's like,
it's madness.
You guys use,
you guys use,
use, yeah.
Is that an English thing too?
Because in the States,
the only people that say use are Philadelphia.
Yeah.
Is Blaze even paying attention on here?
He did.
He did.
that was a Liverpool thing.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
All right.
So there's a similarity right there.
I like that.
All right.
I use yous all the time.
Can't help her.
It just comes out.
The Southerners use y'all.
Yeah,
can't say y'all.
Yeah,
yeah.
My wife shouts at me every night.
I'm having dinner and not talking to people because I just speak like I normally do.
Oh, you said some crazy shit the other day.
You were looking for the bathroom.
You said something.
I looked at he was like,
er.
Oh, I said, where's the bog?
Yeah, I was like,
the bog.
Yeah.
Bro, what the fucking talking about?
Where's the bog?
Swamp?
I don't know.
I love to look at me and goes, where's the toilet?
I just,
I can't like change,
I'm just,
I just speak the way of speak.
I love that.
I want to be a scowser.
So sometimes I talk too fast,
I don't know what I mean?
And people are looking at me like,
yeah.
Yeah.
What just happened?
Patty,
we talk about this upcoming fight on Friday or on Saturday.
Yeah.
UFC 330.
I've never been to a UFC fight.
Yeah, it's going to be good.
Yeah.
I don't really know what to expect.
back man I'm honed yeah it is it's a great spectacle going to us UFC event it is even
they like the production and the way they set things out yeah there's no one like it in the
mma world the UFC is the pinnacle of the sports not on comes close to it but this is a big
fight I don't I mean Islam's Islam's first title defense of the well-to-weight title after he was
the champ at my weight no I mean one one defendant the belt four times most decorated
a champion we've ever had at my weight division and then moved up and won the belt so let's see how
we get on his first defense yeah but uh he and galley is a tough fight like he and gary like stays on the
outside he's longer he's bigger he's more of a point scoring fighter he'll just keep it on the end of
the jab and be happy to do that where his lamb's shorter stop he's trying to try and get in get him
down i think don't think he'll stand with him his lamb's more of a grappler
think he'll just take him down and try and submit him on the ground what's the difference in viewing
being in the arena for a fight or watching on TV.
It's like some sports are better on TV.
Yeah.
Football is better watching TV if you want to watch a game.
It's the atmosphere.
Yeah.
The atmosphere when you're in there.
Especially when someone like I fight,
I don't know what I'd be like watching Islam and Ian Gary.
Yeah.
When I fight,
it's definitely better being in the arena.
Sure.
I'll be honest though.
Some of my mates do say to me when they've got sick,
it's nothing like, lad, I watch the screen most of the time.
Right.
You know what I mean?
Like, way you say you've got to look through people to watch the cage to just look up
and watch the screen.
The best view of it is right there.
I mean,
that's my mate to say that all the time.
You end up watching the screen anyway.
Just being there for the atmosphere.
Yeah.
Can you feel the punches more when you're in the venue versus like watching on TV?
Do a good job of micing it up, I guess, on TV too.
Yeah, you do a good job of making it up.
Like, but you probably, just because you're there,
you probably feel it a bit more.
I mean.
I went to a boxing match at Baha.
This was very amateurish.
One of the fighters didn't show up.
And they had, seriously, one of the fires didn't show up.
And this is on the undercard for an already,
Like not a big fight.
And this guy comes out who had just been waiting.
He cut a hole in a towel and had a towel over him as he was walking out.
Because they used to have fighters on deck waiting.
Yeah.
Yeah.
If guys don't show up.
This guy had a look in his face.
Like, this dude's going to fucking, he's going to do.
He's going to kill this guy.
He goes out there.
The fight was over in like 10 seconds.
He got hit so hard.
But when he got hit, you could, like, it resonated in the entire, like, area.
Like it was that loud
There's a few fighters
Like that
Where you just hear
The punches
And it sounds like a slap
Right
But it's a thud
I mean
Anyone come to mind
When you say that
First one right away
Is Alex Pereira
Yeah
She's an absolute beast
But then
Like Carlos Prattez is like that
He's a welterweight
So he's not
Like a big, massive dude
Sure
But when he hits
When he hits people
He know about it
Yeah
I think he's like
8 and 1 in the UFC
with eight knockouts.
I mean,
he's got like the,
just heavy hands.
He's only lost to being Gary,
and it was a decision.
I think Prattez is a future champion,
and he's a nice dude as well.
But some of the knockouts he's got,
spinning back elbows,
flying knees,
I mean,
he's a joy to watch.
Yeah,
that's one thing that's so interesting to me
is like,
you had,
you know,
fighting so personal,
it's literally you and one guy,
I feel like you really get to know them
when you're prepping for it,
and it's kind of a small community,
right?
But like,
do you guys,
there's a lot of shit talking.
There's a lot of media personalities and stuff like that you guys generally like get along or is it kind of contentious?
I had most most fighters I think a proper sound yeah that's another one sound means like nice dude got it yeah so like most but most fighters are proper sound the ones what you meet in the PI and all things like that I always stand there having conversations with them and not just having all off it's just certain ones like obviously the the ones that are in your way class it's gonna be worse because you could end up fighting them yeah
So I've got a couple of my way,
so I don't really like or necessarily get on with.
But then there's other ones in other divisions
that I just don't like.
I mean,
I just don't like the personality.
Sure.
But most people,
most people I get on with,
I like.
Yeah.
So a little of the kind of media stuff beforehand,
like some of the shit talking is a lot of that kind of create buzz and create,
with some people it is.
Yeah.
Like I probably love Sean Sittling.
I think he's hilarious.
Yeah.
But him and the cams,
I think they,
I think they said after it
that he was just saying
it to build the fighter.
I'm not really into that.
I'm not going to start
saying stuff about someone.
Just fake.
If it's just fake,
no what I mean?
Give it me as Jew.
We got the ratings in,
no what I mean?
It got,
it was one of the most viewed events
of the year.
Yeah.
So it worked for them.
But I just,
I just can't do that.
Like if,
just like with BSD,
with Gagey,
like,
it was cordial,
it was sad,
and Chandler.
I was all right with them
because he never said,
no,
I'm not going to,
I'm not going to,
something or something.
But then other guys are just
sausages.
But if I fight earlier or
Armand,
I'm on an absolutely
rinse their lives.
I'm just trying
and absolutely terrorized them.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But if a fight like Max Holloway or Charles
Olivera,
I wouldn't because I respect them
and I like them.
Yeah.
Like I respect,
don't get me wrong.
I respect earlier,
but we've had beef for years.
I think he's a little helmet.
So I'd love to fight him and give him shit.
But I'm a little.
That's a phenomenal.
Bro,
He calls people sausages.
It's the best fucking thing of the world.
I'm telling you.
I'm in Syruc.
I've got no respect for it at all.
He's just a rich kid.
He's like,
Daddy's a millionaire.
Where does the respect come from in fighting?
The guys that you respect for us don't respect.
It's the fighting.
Ammon's a good fighter,
like,
to be honest,
but I just can't respect him.
Because, like,
he's living on daddy's money.
Yeah.
And without that,
he wouldn't be where he is.
Sure.
He's sitting there eating caviar for $2,000 caviar for breakfast and that.
I don't what I mean?
I do.
I know exactly.
I'm going to get back to my camera.
One thing we always talk about,
like we do a lot of,
you know,
interviews of football players and stuff like that,
like a super common question is like,
you know,
Kells,
how many times you've been asked,
what was your welcome to the NFL moment?
You know,
that's a very common one,
but probably a little different for fighters.
Like,
you have a welcome to the,
welcome to the MMA or like,
welcome to UFC moment.
We're like,
holy shit,
this is real,
you know.
Well,
welcome to the UFC moments was definitely my debut.
because he hit me with a lovely left-hook.
He did, he hit me with a lovely left-toch.
In the fight, you don't even feel it.
But when you watch it back, it's like,
oh, yeah, that landed.
He hit me with a lovely left-toch.
And the commentators made it worse
because they're all like,
oh, he's rocked him, he's rocked him.
Yeah.
And it'd never.
I'd just say if it rocked me,
you know what I mean?
Like, Gage he'd rocked me a few times.
But, like, that never rocked me whatsoever,
just because my hair flew about it looked like it rocked me.
But then I'd T-K-oed him.
against the cage, like a little
drop to me into the cage and finished them.
And then that was when I said, like, scouses
don't get knocked out in that.
And lad, it just absolutely blew up from that moment.
Bar still sponsored me and stuff like that.
Is that why he started braiding your hair?
Yeah, the last fight before I didn't bring me here.
It was a very close fight.
And I got injured in the first round,
booked four to three rounds.
A lot of people still to this day call it one of the worst robberies
all time.
I won the fight two rounds to one.
but a lot of people still think the other lad one.
And I think that the commentators again made that way,
saying, oh, he's got this, he's got this.
But where he was getting me or punches,
my hair was flying back like that.
Yeah.
And it just looks 10 times worse.
Yeah.
So after that fight,
after people thinking, like,
I didn't win that fight at all.
I'm going to have to get braids from that one.
Yeah.
And I did.
And it's weird.
It looks badass.
Yeah, I mean, it's crazy how the way you look on,
I mean, what was your fight, July 11th?
Yeah.
Right.
To now, like,
kind of look like a boy band guy.
man now a week later
I look like a different person
a week later lad's mad
yeah I can't help it
I just love food too much
I mean we've gone out to some nice meals
amen to that yeah
yeah you're preaching the choir here
yeah yeah
I retired I played at 290 I lost like 30 pounds
and I'm already back up to 285
because I just ice cream and
I don't know if I went out of tire
I'm when I be weighing every weight like
I'm still fighting now
and I'm about 200 205
right so like yeah
one getting up to two feet
50 is not going to be a bother for me.
Sure.
Definitely not.
When did you break the 200?
So you fought at 155 or you weighed in at 155 for the fight?
Yeah.
When do you think you got, like, what do you think you were two or three days later, you know?
200.
Really?
50 pounds swing and three days.
Well, I got back in the cage 190.
Yeah.
36 hours later.
Fucking.
I don't know.
I got back to, I got back the Gaff and weighed myself like two and a half hours later.
And I was 168.
just after drinking water, I'd net not on you.
Yeah.
And then that night when I went to bed,
I think we weighed,
I think I weighed myself before I went to the press,
the way in where like the crowds there,
I think it was 180.
And then when I went for food in the nights,
before I got in bed, it was like 193.
But then I got on the scale,
I mean, went to bed, woke back up and was 185 again.
And then before, when I got to be where you,
when you get to the venue,
but the way you're fully clothed it's not like a big thing when you just weigh in it i was thinking it was like
one and a four but i had a track you on so probably would be in about 190 good so like people think
oh he's put 50 pound on i haven't i fought like 190 i've put like 10 pound on yeah yeah is that true
for like the opponents too or is that kind of yeah you can weigh in once you've weighed in you can
weigh anything yeah it doesn't matter you've weighed in you've done your job yeah i mean i've done it before
where I've come back in and I've felt sluggish because of it
because I've had too much shit.
I've done it stupidly when I was young.
Fuck now.
When I was younger.
I remember one time when I fought in London,
I weighed in and I didn't even,
I drank a little drink and went straight downstairs in the hotel
and got a full English.
Yeah.
And then my SEC coached to my nutritionist,
Paul's come down and being like,
the fuck are you doing?
He's like, what you mean?
Just getting a scant.
He was like, fuck and put her, go and put that back
and get upstairs.
you ought to.
It sounds like some guys we've played with.
We used to have to weigh in and we get fine if we were overweight.
So you get like a,
you know,
you get a,
anyone just getting the sauna before it.
Oh,
yeah.
Honestly,
they probably use a lot of the similar protocols.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean,
we get fined like $600 per pound.
You're overweight.
I think with chip,
I had a range that was like 3.30 to 3.34,
which is fucking stupid.
And if I was like outside of that,
it was.
Well,
they can't find.
So they can't find.
So they can't find.
So they can't find you for being lower.
You can't find you for being lower.
They can only find you for being overweight in the NFL.
Yeah.
But if you're lower, they'll...
Balls you.
Yeah.
They'll just stuff your face with food.
That was me constantly.
I was always low.
They wanted me to be as heavy as possible.
I was like $2.90 was kind of the heaviest I felt comfortable.
Yeah.
A little bit slowish after that.
But that was never your game anyway.
I was more of like a...
I would block in line, but a lot of times I'd be running down the field,
making blocks that down.
I just felt like the heavier I got, the worse I was in the thing that.
lower you was getting the places and stuff.
For you, it's a fine line to walk because you need to be able to get out in space
and pull and like go on screen passes, but then you also need to be like five
down and be able to eat a barrow. You can't be so light that the guys just fucking,
you go up against big fucker like him. He just walks you back in the quarterback.
Yeah, like Dexter Lawrence or Vita or something like that.
I mean, it's a fine line of walk.
But what is that, why do they do it in UFC the day before?
Why not just right before the fight?
It's just always being there.
And they know the people will do it anyway.
So if you get in the cage,
the isolated,
you will probably could be a death.
So they would lose so much weight.
They'd be like dehydrated and stuff like that.
Yeah.
And if you take a punch when you're like that,
yeah.
I mean,
the fight's going to be over pretty fast.
Yeah.
It's 36 hours before.
36.
Yeah.
Because we're weighing the Friday morning.
And then we fight the Saturday night.
So if you do it properly,
it's all sound.
But people say,
oh,
I don't just get rid of weight cutting.
They're not going to do that.
Yeah.
It's just the way the sport.
is.
The fighters are going to take as big of an advantage.
Yeah.
And no one wants to be the smaller fight to get in there.
Yeah.
Like,
I think I will eventually move up to 170.
But for now,
I can still make 155.
Why would they go up and fight?
Much bigger men.
Right.
I don't I mean.
Yeah.
Yes.
How good is that shit feel once you make weight, you know?
Making weight to the biggest relief.
I always say that.
That's like,
weekend one when you've made weight.
Yeah.
I love fighting,
lad i love getting in there and having a scrap with someone so we get paid to make weight
getting in and fighting sad yeah but if you don't make weight led you get some of your purse
took and all that yeah you miss weight the opponent could say oh no i'm not fighting him he's got an
advantage or you're getting like 40% of your purse took off you oh shit so 36 000 before the fight
is the way in at what point are you starting to try and cut your weight down i start dieting 10 weeks
out.
10 weeks.
Yeah.
But when,
like,
you know you're going
into like,
I guess the,
I guess the weight.
We'll start like a week,
the week of process like the Sunday before.
Sunday before.
I start thinking eight liters of water every day.
Go no carbohydrate,
it's no salt.
So you're just not holding on anything.
Yeah.
So once you get in them baths and so on us,
all the sweat comes out of you,
all the water comes out.
How much weight?
Can you lose realistically,
safely in that kind of like type of process?
15 pound?
15.
Yeah.
years ago
I done like when I was a stupid kid
I didn't even do it properly
I done like 18 and a half pound
something stupid like that
and then that's the video
where I was sick in the cage
getting me post fighting to you
Yeah
How do you know when you're being stupid with it
You're starting to get dizzy and like
It's just like it's mad people
Think it's just like that week
Had everything leading up to it
You've got it, it's a proper science now
But like you've got it down where I've done it
I've done a couple of bad ones
Don't let me wrong
I've done a couple of terrible ones
So now
when I do them and I'm even doing 14, 15 pounds, I feel sad.
Like the last one I done, 14 pound.
And I felt, sound felt normal.
Yeah.
Didn't even feel like dehydrated.
Yeah.
Are you eating a lot of food?
Are you also not eating any food during this time?
No.
You still have to eat protein and fats.
Yeah.
Less than 2,000 calories a day.
Yeah.
And it just keeps you going, no one I mean?
Sure.
It gives you energy to do your certain sessions.
but as I say it's the no carbs is a big thing because obviously they're that keeping on to all the
water in your body and the salts and stuff so no salt no carbs and when you're like I sweat walking
around anyway I'd see me yesterday after three girls practice like me pit stains are that big
so like I I I sweat anyway so when I get in a bath and I've done all that it just pisses on
me sure one thing I'm always curious I was watching like you wear the woup you know what I mean
yeah you can't wear that during the fight right no I wish I always say I
always say to take the rap the raffella was like i can put that on over that i'd be so curious what
your strain is during a fight i wish it 52 seconds you know i wish i wish i would have seen when it was
from the gagey fight lad 25 minutes is just throwing down i wish it would have been able to see it but i'm
sure you can get something to put in your shorts i want to try and do that in the future
so i've had this on now for about six years i don't take it off just stays on it's permanent
you can tell just by like the skin color on the i know and patty and i went out one night in it'll
It's like me white.
That's my proper skin color.
That's brutal.
Yeah, that's the color of me.
He woke up the next day.
His recovery score,
we were out to like 4 a.m.
His recovery score was his HRV was better than mine was at any point in my entire life.
His HRV is like 102.
You have like a fib and like you've eaten candy nonstop.
Whoa, whoa,
bro,
I can eat candy a year to have,
right?
That's fucking fake news,
son.
My HIV is normally good life out of all of it.
my HRV is normally good.
Yeah.
Like Paul read,
my S&C coach who's like,
my new sister's as well.
I was that that high.
Dude,
this is always lower the man known away.
And he's like,
I don't understand how yours is that eye.
We were comparing notes and I was blown away by his fucking HRV was like literally,
I don't know,
like triple digits.
I haven't done HIV six chip.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah,
I think it is simple.
Let's see what it was last night.
Oh, God.
I think it is simple digits.
Like mine was like seven.
Yeah,
it was only 105 last night.
I've never,
never seen that.
Mine was 16.
16?
Yeah.
Are you all right, bro?
I'm dying.
I'm slowly dying.
Is that all that fucking pasta we had last night?
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
The pasta.
That's never of the HRV.
It's short science,
Gels.
Look it up.
Oh, God.
It's fascinating talking to you about a lot of this stuff, Patty.
I mean, it's like you're such a fucking nice,
personal guy.
and then you see you step in the ring and you're like
the fucking Patty the Batty.
You know what I mean?
Like it's fucking crazy.
Have you ever been in a fight outside the ring?
Um,
when you were younger.
Years ago when I was younger.
Yeah.
But like in Liverpool,
nah,
not for over,
well,
over 10 years.
Yeah.
There's a wonder belt in the local arena on Cage.
what he is when I was 21.
Yeah.
I'm 31 now.
So,
like,
in Liverpool,
everyone knew who I was.
I mean,
no one.
Not even like,
I never even had anyone
I was like
Oh, do you think you're hard
I don't know that
Everyone was just sad
Yeah yeah
Before that
I'd fight in like music festivals
And stuff like that
I'm in with me mates
Yeah
But nothing
I'm not enough to stop me head
Let me tell you about our sponsors

There's a video that I used to watch, Boss Routen,
How to Win a Bar Fight. Have you ever seen that video? Yeah, I've seen it.
It's one of my favorite. Pow, paw, take it the day of the day.
It's sick.
I've always, like, what is, is it, would the strategy for UFC, would you incorporate
some of it, would you, you go on all the rules? Yeah, all the rules, yeah.
You'd incorporate it a million percent. Yeah. I always say this to my mates, none of them have ever, like,
trained hardly anything and I've watched some of them throw punches before and miss I say lad
99 out of the under people can't throw a punch right like it's that's just the fact right
most people have never trained to throw a punch yes so most of them can't throw a punch yeah like they'll
throw a punch like that it's watching some videos it's crazy yeah yeah yeah when people like having a
street fight it's like whoa you've literally never been inside the gym you should be able to throw at least
the jab right backhand yeah
And I always say to the lads, lad, come in the gym and I'll take you on pads.
If it ever goes off, I don't want to be stuck with Jews.
Yeah, right.
Yeah.
But, like, street fights, lad, anything can happen.
Yeah, that's the thing.
Like, you've got to get you back to the wall.
That's what we always used to say in festivals and that.
If anything goes off, back to the wall so no one can come behind you.
Everything's in front of you.
And then everything's there.
Yeah.
I mean, that's the best way.
Get you back to a wall because you don't want to get someone coming behind and stealing on you.
It doesn't matter how big you are out or how well you can
fight if someone comes behind and punches in the back of the head.
Yeah.
Going to hear you. For sure.
About grabbing a chair.
Yeah. I do all that.
It's going off lad.
I'll put a bar still right over someone's pod.
That's one of my favorite.
Grab a chair. Get some distance.
Grab a chair.
You can throw it that to him and kick him in the groin.
Protect yourself at all times,
that.
Yeah.
I like the back against the wall.
That's a good piece of ice for sure.
I always used to say that,
yeah,
because then someone can sneak behind it and just at you while you're not looking.
And that's,
it's the ones you don't see coming,
what are at you?
Yeah.
Right.
I know we've been fucking around a little bit talking about that stuff.
I do want to talk about something a little serious.
Patty,
love your advocacy for mental health.
I mean,
NFL players,
like we face a lot of same kind of issues of,
you know,
you see stuff coming out of head trauma and CT and,
you know,
the messages you sent.
after fights about, you know, just checking in with your buddies and talking to them and stuff like
that is, uh, I mean, I think that's a good thing, especially have like, you know, an alpha
guy who's tough guy talk about things like that. I just feel like people in like our position
who've got a bit of a following who've got people who actually listen to them. Yeah.
Should say stuff like that.
Like anyone that's got a bit of a following and doesn't bring up like matters like that is a bit
selfish. Yeah. I mean, like especially in Liverpool that it's bad.
people just killing themselves and it's a bit of an epidemic especially young men so like when i
actually said at the first time someone i know it killed themselves like 36 hours before yeah like
48 hours before so it was it just come from the heart and then ever since people have always
mentioned it to me and stuff so became a little bit of an advocate for it made the body foundation
what helps with it and yeah just try and do me bit no one i mean trying to do what i can yeah i mean exactly
it's hard you just got to talk about you got to make make yourself available for people and read the word you know
I think you know the note about just reaching out to your buddies like that is so like huge because it's so easy everybody gets lost in their own thing
and then you can get isolated real quick yeah especially once you're done playing you know there's now that you're retired
that's why a lot of retired football players I really think struggle yeah they don't have the locker room anymore they're not around their boys
and stuff like that and then they're like off in their own work
world and it's like dude it's easy to freaking sometimes hard to relate to you know when you
retire like you have guys that are literally on the same you know same schedule your same walks
of life like you're doing the same thing every day and you can really relate to them and when you
you know you kind of like i retired kind of suddenly you know what i mean it's hard it's an
adjustment period so that's i mean that kind of resonated with me we've all seen guys that we've
played with who kind of go through that shit you see that would fine plus we're already
fucked in the head because you've been hitting our heads against each other i mean
because.
But no, I just want to say,
I appreciate that message, man.
I think it's good to kind of make that,
you know,
take the stigma away from that
and be able to talk about that openly,
I guess.
Yeah,
that's just,
as I say,
trying to do it with my camera.
And I always say,
problem shared,
the problem halved,
I don't know what I mean?
Yeah.
Literally when you speak to someone
about something,
you feel like a weight to being lifted off you.
Right.
So I'd always rather want to me to come and speak to me
than do anything daft.
Yeah.
Do you think about the head trauma stuff at all?
Or is that,
I mean,
I feel like it's a CTE,
like big stuff is more than,
like, boxing the UFC.
Because they take a lot more head shots.
Which is honestly why we have a lot.
Yeah.
Like you said,
I've never been knocked out.
But every practice,
I was basically headbutting somebody with the helmet over and over.
Like,
that's probably the good thing about them and me.
You take,
like in boxing,
they can take a big combo and it's got to take a knee.
Right.
Take 10 seconds.
Get back up.
Yeah, yeah.
And they can do that like five times.
a fight before getting finished where
in R Sport if you get it with a combo and get
dropped you get it with two more and it's over
you're on top of them and it's not taking
any more damage because it's over.
A lot of people say R Sport's a lot more brutal
and on some aspects it is
in the longevity of your brain
I think boxing's a lot more brutal
than even like an NFL
is a lot more brutal than
MMA. Yeah the cumulative
yeah I mean that's there is no
Kelsey and I are right over the ball there is
maybe five reps in my entire career where I didn't have contact.
You know what I mean?
That's just kind of what just on up for.
And it was just like I'm like a third long where I'm like dropping in coverage,
which never happened.
It was like the only time.
How many times did you drop into coverage?
Dude, I had a sick coverage rep against Steph Diggs and that FC championship 20,
2018.
I had a fucking lockdown, bro.
You should see me in coverage.
I got out there.
I was like, oh, fuck.
It's such a special scenario.
but yeah you know I think my policy on CTE is just try not to think about it too much
yeah I don't really know what to say I think you can I wish I wish the NFL honestly would fund
more research into traumatic brandage and the military is doing a lot of stuff interesting stuff
with like guys you get concussion blasts and stuff like that overseas and whatnot yeah it
feels like yeah you're you're damaging your brain but I do think that there's some lifestyle
things you do yeah keep an exercise and get like all the like
standard something's good for your brain in general
that can help you out.
I think it's something to keep in mind, but
when it comes to like CT,
I believe that to the experts.
Like the scientists and not do that,
no one I mean, because I've got to
fuck.
I've been doing a lot of research.
I got my own AI bot on me.
Oh, God.
Okay, before we forget,
we have some lovely sponsors.
We love our sponsors over here
at the Greenlight Pod.
We're talking a lot about training.
Recovery is an important part of training.
We got some canes, shoes for you guys.
Cains, shoes.
Yeah, they are great.
I peeped the ones you were wearing yesterday.
It looked pretty good.
You like them?
I did.
Yeah, we got...
I'm going to the beach today.
Yeah.
I mean, these go real well, the beach.
Nice.
Yeah.
There you go.
Show them off for the...
A little eagle green, green light.
There you go, boys.
That how funky them like a lot.
You're going to rock those, Ben?
They are like trucks.
Exactly.
That's what I thought.
They're like athletic.
They're much better than crocs.
I wouldn't be caught dead in a pair of crocs, Patty.
But they are basically crocs.
They're more stylish for sure.
Well, you guys were shitting on my fucking new balance loafers yesterday.
Like, those are maybe a little better.
Because you the fuck wears new balanced loafers.
That's the thing.
What's the point of that?
They're sick.
Bro, what do you mean?
You're rocking some new balance shoes yesterday.
Their shoes, though.
What do you wear loafers for walking around?
You can dress them down.
You can wear them with socks, without socks.
You can wear anything you want.
It doesn't mean you don't look like a jag off.
You got socks and loafers on with a zin-
Zone, zone.
Zone.
Oh, sorry, zone.
Yeah, zone.
Come on,
it makes me laugh to where he has a socks all the way up with you as well.
You'll have a socks.
It's called fashion, Patty.
You have a socks all the way up here.
Like, he's got a pair of fucking footsy socks on.
What do these feel like?
Is there any support in these?
Yeah.
Very supportive.
Come on.
No,
we'll do squat to burn him.
I'm not doing it.
Is he trying to talk you in a squat tober yet?
What's that?
Dude, he squat every day in October.
Every day.
Every day.
And it's not like an off day in between or a delo day.
Oh, yeah.
You need to not do it every day.
I just need it.
Like,
I need it or else I've got that complex in his brain, honey.
For sure.
I got to be big.
It's the body dysmorphine.
You hear of America?
I got to be big.
It's like,
I got to be big.
How do you, how do you, how do you, how do you, how do you, what's, what are you changing to go to
to the American accent?
What are you doing?
I don't even know.
I don't know.
I just do it.
Yeah.
I couldn't even do like an English accent.
That's the funniest people.
Like I always laugh when people try and do a scouse accent.
Yeah,
people can't do it.
The scouse sounds more Irish to me than English.
Yeah.
Everyone says that.
Like I keep getting asked of them.
Yeah.
In say the Joe's also Patty.
Yeah.
Good point.
In Say the Joe's last week, someone turned to me and Lauren said what language you speak?
Swear down as he was serving us at the counter.
what language are you speaking?
I went, what language you said?
I went, English, lad.
He's like, what?
I was like, yeah.
Like, that's just mad.
Have you ever seen the movie, uh, snatch?
Yeah.
Brad Pitt.
Oh, yeah.
That's what it reminds me of, honestly.
You like dags.
You like dags?
My favorite ones are saying in American accent,
that was get down the ground, motherfucker.
That's what I'm best.
Oh my gosh.
Holy shit.
I reckon that's my best.
My best,
the medicine life.
I don't what I mean?
I feel like I've got that one down.
Oh, God.
Get down on the ground, motherfucker.
Eat your dirt.
Face down.
Face down, bitch.
Oh, my God.
That's good.
Ladd,
I could play a cuff
on an American movie
that line.
Get down the ground,
motherfucker.
You might get cast
off of this.
Yeah.
That is good.
The other day I go,
Peta,
I know you want to be a movie star.
He goes,
lad,
I'm going to be a movie star.
I don't want to be.
I'm going to be.
It's going to happen.
I can see why,
man.
No doubt.
Got the exit down.
All right,
boys,
well, this is fucking fun as hell.
I appreciate you.
Appreciate you guys coming on and just us fucking hanging out talking sports, football, everything.
It's fun, man.
Yeah, I enjoyed that.
That was good.
Very cool.
We'll run it back in London.
We'll come out for the Eagles game.
Yeah.
Are you on the Eagles game out there?
If I ever, in the UK, definitely.
I'll be there, 100%.
Is it in the Tottenhamton Stadium?
Yeah.
Tottenham, it's a Belter Stadium as well.
Yeah, they just built it right.
Yeah.
I've played there actually.
It's only a couple of years old, that's a billion stadium.
But I have a high-tech, state-of-the-art one.
Yeah.
wise.
Yeah.
It'd be cool.
Anyway,
I appreciate it.
It's fun.
Patty's going to the zoo.
Just I'll say,
we're going to the zoo is great.
Yeah.
Oh yeah.
I'll take the kids.
The zoo.
I'm fucking weird.
I like the trees more
at the Philadelphia Zoo and the animals.
Go to the Arboretum,
dude.
It's built in like this old park.
He's got these big,
beautiful trees.
I don't know, man.
Wow.
The animal's good.
My wife loves animals.
She loves zoos.
Yeah.
So we go to like zoos wherever.
Yeah, we went to the zoo last week in San Diego.
Like two weeks ago.
San Diego Zoo's great.
The Diego Zoo is good, yeah.
Keep the expectation lower than the San Diego Zoo.
That's four girls.
I like the Philadelphia Zoo are great people.
They're good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
San Diego Zoo, though, that's like top notch.
Yeah.
Got a lot of stuff in there.
Like, but it's a mission to walk around.
It's big.
Yes.
It's big.
So hopefully the Philly one's not as big.
It's not.
We can get around it faster.
It almost feels,
the Philly one almost feels like you're walking through a park.
Yeah.
There's like big trees everywhere and you're kind of navigating.
There's like old buildings,
but it's not as big as,
San Diego.
Four girls, two girls.
You've got twin girls.
Twin girls?
How old?
Two and a bit.
Two and a bit, yeah.
Identical.
They were two in April.
Identical.
Yeah.
What are their names?
Betty and Margo.
I love it.
That's great.
How are you feeling about it?
How's it going?
Boss?
Yeah.
Love being a dad lad, don't you know?
I want to have more kids, but Lord is not ready at the minute.
Yeah.
She's the one controlling that decision.
Exactly.
She consoles that.
So two in a bit.
So are they like starting a string
sentences together.
Exactly.
That's a fun age.
Oh, man.
Starring to,
Margot starting to
proper have a conversation with,
you know.
It's really fun because you,
everything you take for granted in a day
and you just like walk right past or whatever
because it's just like a normal everyday thing
to them as like a mind-going thing.
And they're able to just start to communicate that to you.
And it's,
that's a very fun age.
It is.
Yeah.
Until they start going crazy.
They get,
they,
I'm just waiting for the,
why?
Why?
Yeah, but why are we doing that for?
Why?
Like, are we there?
Yeah.
All that's like,
you do it with a lawyer now,
they'll just go when she's driving the car,
mummy,
what are you doing?
Yeah.
And it's like, I'm driving, babe.
And then they got like,
Mommy,
where are you?
Like,
I'm sat in front of you, babe.
Like random questions like that.
Patty,
how often you mix them up?
Because they are identical.
I can mix them up once a day,
easy.
Yeah.
I don't I mean.
Like one of them has a bangal on the right wrist, one on the left wrist.
Yeah.
Other people can tell the difference.
But that also helps me.
Sure.
They're fucking adorable.
Is there anything just in their appearance that you can tell without that?
Betty's a little bit, got like a little bit of a round of the face.
Got it.
I don't know what I mean?
Yes.
We can tell off that.
At the minute, Betty's got a little bite on her face, like a mosquito bite.
So that's making it easy for everyone.
But yeah, Betty's got like a little bit of a round of face.
She's a little bit bigger.
Yeah.
She's like two minutes older.
she's just like that tiny bit
but it's basically the same
they are identical lot
it's gonna be hard work in years to come
it really is
it's awesome
they'll be able to like swap class in school
and stuff like that
if they're in different classes
just the look that I like
yeah what's that movie
with the twins where they switch
with the-
you're talking about Danny DeVino
and they were not identical twins
the parents rap
you don't know
that's the one yeah yeah yeah
yeah
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's just the faker story.
I like that movie, dude.
Not even that.
That's not a real.
That's not a real.
Not even that bit.
Just the fact that,
yeah,
a mum would have twin girls
and then the mom and dad
go, we'll take one each.
Yeah.
Yeah.
How's that way?
As if the mom's gonna go,
yeah,
I've just had you and me better.
Yeah, you can take that one.
Yeah, you take that one.
I'll just never communicate with this way.
I'll just have one.
Like,
fuck off.
I don't know.
I love far.
I love far faxed.
So,
but don't say it's too far.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's such a good point.
Yeah.
All right, boys.
Well, this is fucking fun.
Yeah.
We got to get Patty to the zoo.
All right.
Yeah.
Enjoy the zoo.
Appreciate it.
