Starting point is 00:00:00 When they went through that interview process with Joe Brady, I was as confused as any Bill's fan. And so I just called Brandon Bean and I was like, dude, talk to me. Tell me, tell me why. And at halftime, Dirt said, hey, we're putting James. I was like, what? You just told me two hours ago. Had multiple quarterbacks I play with clip their sweat glands up here. Both so they'll no longer have sweaty palms. When you go from six kids to seven, what you realize is it's a big decision. only because you no longer fit in a minivan.
Starting point is 00:00:33 Are you wronging because, boy, my brand, I woke up with a little bit of brain fog this morning, and I'm not a Harvard guy, but I found a bowl of creatine gummies. I had like five or six scoops of those right in my mouth. Instant, just cognition. Really? Yeah. Can I take one?
Starting point is 00:00:48 Please take five. These are really just creatine gummies. They're not infused with anything else? Just creatine. Okay. It's NSF certified, too. Is it really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:00:58 Okay, that's important. Now, do I use the spoon or can I just grab? Dealer's choice. Okay, good. Yeah. And one is okay? I mean, I just did seven. But yes, one is okay.
Starting point is 00:01:09 All right. Guys, I'm joined here by my close friend, good, good pal of mine, associate, oftentimes lover, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Hey, Bo. DM Studios. How are you? I'm doing great. How are you? How was your night last night?
Starting point is 00:01:23 My night was, it was good. It was, where were you? I went to bed at a lot. 11 o'clock last night, earliest in the history of my Super Bowl career. Wow. But I felt great this morning. I feel especially great now they had a creeteen gum. It was good.
Starting point is 00:01:40 Yeah. I did text you last night and you never hit me back, by the way. That's not true. I swear to God, read out what I sent you. Okay. Read out what I sent you. You're right. You did.
Starting point is 00:01:49 I did. But when somebody sends me after 10 p.m., the word comes, and it should be C-O-M-E. Yeah. And it was C-U-M. Yeah. To Daddy. I got no reply. C-U-M to D-A-D-D-I.
Starting point is 00:02:08 Come to Daddy. Yeah. I figured that that was not going to make my way to see you because you're already a couple sheets to the wind. I did. Okay. But I was in the middle of doing a show when I saw that. Okay. That's exactly what I was hoping for.
Starting point is 00:02:23 Yeah. And they're just like, oh, my God. Anyway. Not again. All right. Well, I was showing Fitz my notes last. We have a lot of stuff I want to get through today. But I think professional.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Yeah. Yeah, this is before creating dummies. My handwriting after is much better. Are you always green? Just eagles or? Yeah, go birds. No, it's, you know, my crayon ran out, so I had to go to the green marker. All of my kids say crayon, except for Jake.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Really? Yeah, Jake's a crayon guy, which is huge. Okay. Cran? Do you say Alamonium, too? Aluminium. Aluminium. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:57 Thanks. You picked up with that. Yeah, yeah. Creating guns. Alimony. Oh, okay. So, Fitz, I was telling you about these questions that we cooked up last night. Basically, we did a little Super Bowl day yesterday. You know how it is?
Starting point is 00:03:09 You got caught up in the mix. You text your buddies come to Daddy, stuff like that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But the whole bit was we were talking to us over with Chris, and it was basically like, we kind of asked Fitz like drunk questions. You always want to ask a quarterback. They're like, stupid. And then we were scrambling to come up with them at 2 a.m.
Starting point is 00:03:28 Oh, I see you did that you were scrambling. We were scrambling. Nice. And so there's some good stuff in here. Some of these questions are really, really dumb. But I made everyone co-sign it so you know who they are. Yeah. We're with Anders and Blake from workaholics.
Starting point is 00:03:43 They're pretty tight butthole. So, Anders's question is, what's the most amount of buttons you would undo on a show? And he wanted me to say it in a way to, like, kind of encourage you to undo more. So, like, if you're on the Thursday Night Football Desk, what is the most amount of buttons that you'd feasibly undo for your shows? So I do think that's a good question. I think it's an important question for a lot of men. Depending on where you are, what is the setting? Is it vacation?
Starting point is 00:04:05 So let's just say that it's a Thursday night football game. So I'm always going to have two down. I think that's where we start, right? And sometimes like now this is TV magic, so there's two down right here. Sometimes the shirts that I get. And I've got big lats as well, right? So you know when you wear it and they start, it's a button down all the way. So they start to like do this deal.
Starting point is 00:04:26 And it's like really tugging and. hanging on for your life. So I've got to put tape sometimes. So I'll do three buttons down, but tape the area between button three and two just to tighten it up a little bit. But you wouldn't do three. When you get to the post game show, three's okay. So it's just more of a vibe.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Yeah, you can rip the tape off and like let it hang a little bit. Right now, I did the chest waxing as my punishment for losing the picks. And it's still not in great shape. So I'm just going to keep it at two right now because I don't want you to see the Blank spot, yeah. Maybe we'll get to three. We'll wait for the post game show. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:02 And I'll beg you for another button. So that's a good question. This is one from Chris. This was Chris's worst question. What time was this? This was at 3 a half last time. Okay. So he was just getting started.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Yeah. So what do you do about sweaty hands, but also like sweaty butt cheeks for centers? Yeah. Well, there's the infamous Tom Brady. I don't do the, I'm not going to miscreate my centers like that. You get what you get with the ball a little bit. So every now and again, a center will have to change his pants at halftime if it is sweaty butt sheets.
Starting point is 00:05:33 Especially in Tampa, right? Yeah, Tampa was bad. And Ali Marpet was a sweater. Miami was bad. A lot of those places are, but you just get used to it. A lot of times it's just a towel that they have behind. Very good question, though. The other one that pisses me off, though, is when you're in shotgun, if you're there for a while, long cadence, we're trying to see what the defense is doing.
Starting point is 00:05:53 They're pouring sweat on the ball sometimes. And if I get, the ball is okay if it's wet, but if it is wet and the wet spot is on my thumb, talking about football here, not good. So like, flick the ball around. Yeah. Well, I was also thinking about, like, we've been talking about cheeks a lot today. Yeah. Can I tell you something about sweaty hands, though?
Starting point is 00:06:15 Yeah. I have had multiple quarterbacks that I've played with. You know, you can cut the sweat gland like up here. Yeah. So I've had multiple quarterbacks I play with clip their sweat glands. hands up here. Of the throwing shoulder? Both.
Starting point is 00:06:27 So they'll no longer have sweaty palms, which is insane. But I've had guys, one of the guys. The thought of doing that would never even occur to me. Yeah. Well, if it's, for some of these guys, it's a really big problem. Throwing a wet football is hard. And if you are a sweaty palm guy. Can we name names?
Starting point is 00:06:44 Like, who's a sweaty guy out there that? Like, I don't want to put anyone on blast. Yeah. Like, like, would I, like, I don't know. Well, so Brian, I don't know if Brian Brom got clipped. Brian Brom was a guy that was always nervous about how sweaty he was. So always working with gloves and towels and trying to figure out what was going on. That's fascinating.
Starting point is 00:07:04 But yeah, there's another well-known first-round pick that got his sweat glands clipped. Yeah. God, that's fucking fast. You were talking about guys sweating on the ball, the centers before they snap it. This is so funny. There's one time in a preseason game. It was like a 16-play drive back in preseason week three. So like usually back in the day when guys would play more, you know?
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah. The center threw up on the ball right before snapping it. It's not okay. It's not okay. It's not okay. It's not okay. And the next pass was incomplete. It was so funny.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Yeah, it's not okay. That usually happens once or twice in training camp where you're just like, okay. The bar from the ball. Yeah. But back to like sweaty cheeks a little bit, I was thinking about this last night during my very serious pod prep. Yeah. Like there's, you're probably up there as far as like guys.
Starting point is 00:07:53 who've, like how many cheeks, butt cheeks you've been up in. Yeah, there's a lot. Professionally. There's a lot. A lot. And there's just, they fit in different categories too, right? There's the real muscular, like, you know where your hand goes right away. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:10 And the other one where you're just trying to find it and you're kind of oozing around and there's a little. I had that question on there. Number seven, Beau, best cheeks slash favorite cheeks. Yeah. So best cheeks. that you've taken snaps from. And then in parentheses,
Starting point is 00:08:25 I have favorite child, because I feel like it's, you know, you have seven kids. Let's start with best cheeks. We'll go favorite cheeks. It's a natural, it's a natural progression.
Starting point is 00:08:35 Yeah. So best cheeks, I would say Eric Wood. Yeah. Oh, man. And he had like the pro wrestler skin too. So he just, I don't know,
Starting point is 00:08:44 everything about him was tight, you know, which was good. You know where you stand when you get in there. Yeah. Favorite cheeks. I don't want to get sentimental.
Starting point is 00:08:53 I don't hear, but Nick Mangold. Those are my favorite cheeks. Yeah. That was a tough, tough loss for us, 2025. He had some great cheeks. Yeah. You know, people like to say, oh, they're all my favorite. I think it's a day-to-day thing.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Like sometimes... You're like Dion. They're losing rank and gaining rank. Yes. So I guess I haven't, I didn't see my kids yesterday. I haven't seen him this morning. So we'll just stick with Brady since he's the oldest. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:23 Yeah. Sorry, Tate. Yeah. Wait until he comes on the pod. Sorry, Lucy. Sorry, Maisie. Sorry, Ruby. Sorry, Jake.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Sorry, Jake. Sorry. Sorry. You guys will get there eventually. Just maybe tomorrow. I don't know. All right, moving on down the list here. Oh, this is a good one.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Another one from Chris. How weird can unspoken competition between quarterbacks be? Maybe guys within the room, but also like, like, dude, you played for a long time. And I know, like, you're a lovely guy. You're competitive. There's a little bit of hater in you. Yeah, you gain a lot of hater in you. It depends.
Starting point is 00:09:59 I've been in a lot of weird situations. You know, if it's defined, if you've got the first round pick, like starter, and then you have your role as the backup. So like when I was in Tampa with you, when I went there, like, James was the guy, right? And then second year in Tampa, James gets suspended for the first three games. And I go out.
Starting point is 00:10:22 And it's magic, baby. Well, I mean, the only quarterback in NFL history is start a season with three straight, 400-yard games, you know. But then James was back. Yeah. Right. And so we go into the fourth game. We've got the number one overall pick and this journeyman, Yehu, and I end up starting
Starting point is 00:10:42 the fourth game. Yep. And Dirk cutter before the game, he says, hey, just so you know, like, you're our guy. Like, I'm not, we're not benching you. I'm not even thinking about it. like you've proved it, you've played well, like let's just keep this thing going. And in the back of my mind, I'm thinking, I'm getting benched at some point. Like, when is this going to happen?
Starting point is 00:11:01 Well, this happens to be the game where Mitchell Tribisky throws six touchdowns. I think he had five in the first half and we were down 35 to seven. And at halftime, Dirk said, hey, we're putting James in. I was like, what? You just told me two hours ago. Well, it's me, remember? 400 yards three straight games
Starting point is 00:11:24 and that one was back and forth all year. James came back out I went back in vice versa but there's a maturity that has to exist in that quarterback room because there can be
Starting point is 00:11:35 some awkwardness for sure. Yeah. But then, okay, so then obviously yeah, I mean the position battles that you have and it's obviously it's so much heightened as a quarterback, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:43 you're the leader of the team, the face of the offense and everything like that. But do you get into like petty internal competitions kind of with other guys across the league that, like, they might not even know about. You know what I mean? Like other quarterbacks you're saying?
Starting point is 00:11:58 Like, you know, I, there's guys that you come to love their playing style in the way they play. And then there's other guys where you're, you know, you look at their stats and you're like, oh, my God. Like, you guys lost by 30. You checked it down, seven straight times at the end of the game. Your stat patting the whole game. Like, yeah, that stuff. No, I'm not naming names. I'm just saying, you know, within the quarterback community, there's certainly some of that with like a, oh, look at what he did last week.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Yeah, but other guys that you, because, dude, you played so long and I feel like you have, I feel like, like, you know, the gunslinger mentality, not afraid to rip it, you know, I'll throw a fucking pick, whatever. Like, you know what I mean? Are there guys where you watch their tape and you're like, that guy reminds me of me, you know what I mean? There's certain the quarterbacks that I'm more drawn to, I'd like their playing style or the way that they've, play and it's funny because like with my kids they have their favorite players and they're certain bow out and they wear the jerseys on their birthday there's certain players where i'm like we want to steer away from that one like i don't know there's habits and everything else but yeah i would say a couple of them in the household right now like Josh allen obviously is
Starting point is 00:13:09 one and just just being a great guy as well but like his playing style the way that guys like rally around him and love him like all in katang guy uh loves katan okay mr cram Baker Mayfield's another one. So my son Jake likes to go by jaker because his favorite quarterback is Baker Mayfield. But just, again, like playing style, the way that people gravitate to warm. But it's also two teams that you played for, you know, and so it's kind of fun to, you know, support them and they'd still be involved. Let's move down the list here. This is a good one.
Starting point is 00:13:43 So you played for nine. Nine teams. Insane. If you could have unlimited access to any. any of those facilities just to kind of like walk in like, let's say you want a cup of coffee or breakfast or you want to use the hot tub, you know? Kind of like, what's the one facility you would love to have like unlimited access to? So a couple of them have been redone since I've been there, but we won't, we won't count that.
Starting point is 00:14:06 We will just count like when I was there, I would say the New York Jets. Really? Oh, that facility. That's funny like they come out with these rankings at the end of the year, right? And I actually, I actually had to go on Twitter to like defend the Jets. Really? Because people are talking about how bad their facilities are and how they, their facilities are immaculate.
Starting point is 00:14:26 The practice fields are immaculate. The food was amazing when I was there. The meeting rooms, the locker room, everything. I was on nine teams and it was the nicest one that I had been a part of. So I would walk right back into the New York Jets facility, grab a cup of coffee. You've got that special place, you know, in the bathrooms. Like when you've got to do the number two, like sometimes it's in the equipment room and you're one of the only guys that's allowed to go in there to do it.
Starting point is 00:14:51 I had one secret toilet that I. Yeah. In the Eagles? Yeah. It was back in the training, like, but you had to wander back there a little bit. Did you ever, did you ever use Jason Lights?
Starting point is 00:15:01 Bathroom? No. No. Me neither. I never got invited Jason. He's a big fan of the pot. So, Jets is the best.
Starting point is 00:15:10 Which one was the most dog shit? I mean, Tampa was not that great. Yeah, Tampa was fine, though. It was fine, yeah. The thing that, The thing that is tough, like I, so being in Miami, I was in Miami right before they got their new facility. I've been in their new facility and it's unbelievable. It's got a driving range.
Starting point is 00:15:28 It's got a slide. It's got all this stuff. But like when I was in Miami, I actually loved the facility because you love the people. Like you love the training staff. You love the equipment staff. You love the people making the meals. And like, so that to me is like I actually loved Miami even though people would walk in there, especially from like a big college and be like, gosh, our college facility.
Starting point is 00:15:49 were better than this. Tennessee was tough. Tennessee was tough. Tennessee was tough. We did joint practice up there. That bubble was. No, Tennessee was probably the roughest. And then to add on to that, like during training camp, it's hot there.
Starting point is 00:16:02 Yeah. I mean, so Tennessee was... But it is cool with a river and everything right there. I mean, yeah. Okay. So Tennessee blows. Got it. Okay, this was a good one.
Starting point is 00:16:12 So we were at New Heights Party. We were talking with Michael Pittman and Alke Pierce. Okay. So like two like dudes who are ballers, like kind of low key. Like Pierce looks like he works in finance, you know, respectfully. Which is good because he's about to get that money. Yeah. But so I asked him.
Starting point is 00:16:31 I was like, dude, we're interviewing Fitzm. Atm. What's a question you want to ask a quarterback? It's so much more interesting coming from a wide receiver, you know? And he goes, oh, I got a good one. Like what's your biggest wide receiver pet peeve? Like when a dude cuts a route off early or when a guy. misses a catch and like it's your fault, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:51 Because that's something that I've zero experience with. I thought it was a great question. That's a really good question. I would say for me it was when a wide receiver gives up early and inside releases on a go route. Yeah, because it's so much more difficult to make that throw. You're closer to the safety. My eyes are holding the safety,
Starting point is 00:17:10 and by the time I get back to where I'm throwing the go route, I'm expecting you to be sort of in a particular spot. And when you're not there and you're inside, the cornerback undercuts it and it just is a mess. I feel like Puka does that sometimes though. So Puka just- He bends it back outside.
Starting point is 00:17:25 The last game against Seattle, Puka did that and he went inside. And the thing that's interesting about going against Seattle is they undercut all those routes. So as soon as you inside release on a route, they're guessing in-cut and they're staying low. So Pooka's route was awesome.
Starting point is 00:17:41 That would have to be something for me that's predetermined. But I would either throw that bitch 80 yards down the field if I could or throw it out of bounds and then just stare at them, you know, walking back to the huddle because they know, I don't like that. Because if you go outside, I could throw you back shoulder, I could throw you down the field. But he, I mean, with Matt, like, I feel like, I mean, that ball, he threw him a nice ball.
Starting point is 00:18:01 But basically you're saying, like, it's Matthew. Matthew. Yeah, Matthew. Yeah, Matthew. But it was sick. But you saw the way he had to catch it too. Yeah. He had to, like, crank his body and catch it to the outside.
Starting point is 00:18:15 Michael Pittman Jr. I ran into his dad recently. Nice. Do you remember? He probably played with his dad. Do you remember what his dad looked like? So you're talking about your arms? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:25 We could throw a picture of this up as we're talking about it. But this dude had the, like Thomas Jones had big arms. Michael Pittman had the biggest arms in the NFL. Really? Played running back. Unbelievable. Play for the Cardinals. Play for the bucks.
Starting point is 00:18:38 And I ran, here he is right here. Look at that. Dude, I ran, I ran into him in Arizona. He lives in Arizona now. at like some youth indoor soccer tournament or something and talk to him for a while. He's still jacked. Really?
Starting point is 00:18:50 Oh, he looks great. Yeah. But he's on that creotene. He must be. There you go. He must be, yeah. Oh, that's awesome. Any other pet peeves?
Starting point is 00:19:00 Because it's such a different world, man. Like, you know, as a lineman, you rely on, like, your linebackers to pull off double teams or other guys, like, stunt around you, you know? But it's like playing quarterback and wide receiver, like, you're literally counting on another guy to like be in the right place or also you look like a fucking idiot you know and it's just kind of such a different approach to football there's just guys there are guys there are a lot easier to throw too than other guys and so you have certain dudes that are big and fast and strong but like if they don't have like mike like mike evans or when i think of like big fast strong i think of like
Starting point is 00:19:36 dk mackaff yeah right a guy like that were brandon marshall uh brandon marshall same way but i i've never played with dk so i don't know but like brandon Marshall is the smartest receiver I ever played with. So he had the physical ability. Like he looks like a tight end. He looks unbelievable. Great catching radius. But he was the smartest dude I ever played with. So a guy like that, he did have the physical, but he also had that mental aspect of the game. There's a certain term like quarterback friendly. Some of these guys, JSN is a great example of being so quarterback friendly. Cooper Cup. So quarterback friendly, you know where he's going to be. He's going to run with the right tempo because sometimes on paper if you've got a 12 yard in cut a lot of guys
Starting point is 00:20:17 will run 12 yards and they'll run as fast as they can on the end I think as a receiver when you make your progression of like really starting to think the game you realize that that in cut is going to happen at different speeds depending on what the coverage is so those are the guys you really like so guys that are running through windows and just like running as if it's drawn on a sheet of paper that is frustrating for a quarterback yeah just no feel for it. basically. Starting point is 00:22:01 I did want to talk to you about some of the recent coaching kind of, you know, the coaching hires, the coaching trick. because, dude, it's, I love talking to you about just kind of macro level football stuff because you've been doing it for so long. And, you know, with this coaching cycle, there's like 10 jobs and all the different stops
Starting point is 00:22:19 along the way at 9 teams. You've had so many different coaches and kind of seen coaches evolve. So I think the interesting one that I want to ask is like just kind of Buffalo. With McDermott leaving, you know, somewhere you played, I guess were you surprised about that and like, how do you feel about, you know, hiring internally and with Joe Brady and kind of the direction that they're headed. So I wasn't, I think the initial shock value that he got fired, but being a Buffalo fan for a long time, like the last few years, I think there's been some frustrations.
Starting point is 00:22:52 And this year felt like they are farther away. They're getting farther away than they were a few years ago in terms of getting to the Super Bowl. I wanted to make sure when that happened that, like, people realize that Sean McDermott has been fantastic. He's a wonderful coach. I think the thought in Buffalo was before Sean got there, they had a 17-year playoff drought. So he got him over that hump.
Starting point is 00:23:15 They go to the playoffs every year now. Josh goes to playoffs every year with Sean, but they just weren't able to make that next step. And so expectations have shifted from when Sean initially took the job to where it is right now. He did a great job getting them to that point. They felt like he's not the guy that's going to get us over the hump to the Super Bowl. I was shocked when they hired Joe Brady. You know, you cast this wide net. Philip Rivers was one of the guys that came in for an interview,
Starting point is 00:23:41 and they were blown away by Philip, by the way. No, no. You can think about how much, all the former players that are like, oh, I could do, I could call plays. You think about how much time goes into this. You have to dedicate your whole life to football. And I just, I'm not in a place in my life where, like, I want to be around my kids and be able to go to games
Starting point is 00:24:02 and, you know, have the ability to come on the Greenlight podcast whenever I want, you know. hang out with your boy when he ran away in town. But the Joe Brady thing was interesting. It was such a shocker. And I think the bills were shocked a little bit too. They didn't go into this thing thinking like, okay, Joe Brady's their guy. Good luck everybody else. I guess that's like, do you think that part of that is kind of like the coaching cycle of this year and how like, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:24:27 I feel like they kind of, again, like this is, I don't know if this is true. But my kind of gut take was it seemed a little bit reaction. to fire Shaw McDermott to me. You know what I mean? Yeah. I just feel like they felt stuck in neutral and something had to change. Yeah. And the Joe Brady thing, I think they were surprised too because what people don't
Starting point is 00:24:50 understand is like, okay, he was a quarterback coach. He gets elevated a couple years ago to offensive coordinator. But like when you're an offensive coordinator, you're not leading team meetings ever. You're not really, you know, doing the strategy stuff. So there was a lot of things when they went through that interview process with Joe Brady. Because I was as confused as any Bill's fan. And so I just called Brandon Bean and I was like, dude, talk to me. Tell me, tell me why.
Starting point is 00:25:18 And we had a great conversation about it. He was like, he blew us away with everything. There's a lot of stuff we learned about him throughout this process. And so got to talk to Joe Brady not too long ago. And I think the thing he's going to have to really figure out, you go from quarterback coach where you can be buddy-buddy, right? And a lot of times you're the conduit, like, between the offensive coordinator and the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:25:42 So, like, you're bros with the quarterback. Then you go to offensive coordinator. You can still kind of be buddy-buddy with the offense and the guys. But, like, now you're making the transition head coach. And so there's going to have to be a line. And you can't be buddy-buddy, buddy really, with anybody, right? And so it's going to take him a year or two to kind of find his footing there. And, you know, hopefully they continue to win.
Starting point is 00:26:04 this next year is that happens, but he's going to have to figure that part of it out because he's got to set the standard for everybody. And right now, I think it's a little bit of, yeah, this is a player-led team. And he's got to be the one that sets a standard. Mike McDonald's a great example of that. Yeah. No, and actually, well, I want to ask you about that because I think kind of what you're getting at is you have a different relationship with your team, with your staff and your head coach
Starting point is 00:26:28 versus, you know, an offensive coordinator or a quarterback coach. Like what you said, and what came to mind for me is you're a time in Miami with Brian Flores. Because I feel like I have so much love for him. He just resigned in Minnesota. I think he is a creative, ballsy fucking, you know, D-Corporated. But when he was a head coach down in Miami, like, and you were there with them, it seemed like, you know, there's a lot said about how hard he was coaching guys. And you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:26:51 Do you think, I'm trying to think the right way to ask. Well, I think that one's almost a lesson in going too far the other way. Yeah. And there is a sweet spot. And now it's different the way that you have to come. coach a lot of these kids that are coming up. But there also has to be a mutual respect. And you've got to be able to feel that.
Starting point is 00:27:12 And so I think if you're looking right now at the coaching landscape, like Mike Vrable does a wonderful job of fitting right in the middle of that, right? He's like a player's coach. Like everyone talks about him being a player's coach, but he's also like a hard ass. He's a hard ass. He's demanding. But he also went through it himself. Like he understands it.
Starting point is 00:27:29 So there is a mutual respect there. But you always know that he's trying to get the best out of you. and you know what his intentions are, even when he's coaching you hard. And then the biggest thing with coaches is consistency. We just want you to be consistent in who you are every day. And that helps. Yeah. Are there any other, like, dude, this has been a fascinating coaching cycle because, like,
Starting point is 00:27:48 it just feels like it's been more than ever, like, so many open positions, surprise, like I was surprised about McDermott and everything like that. Are there any other, you know, coaching hires of guys where, like, that's a great fit. Like, that's one that I'm excited about or interested to see kind of what happens. It's just, it's hard because when there are 10 openings, it's like, where are we going? You've got the retreads. You've got like the Mike McCarthy in Pittsburgh, which that one's fascinating to me because, you know, he is a Pittsburgh guy. I think he's the oldest head coach they've ever had, which is crazy.
Starting point is 00:28:21 You can check me on that. But at least in the last four hires, like even at the end of the tenures of everybody, like he is the oldest, which is wild to think about. But I think there's a lot of intrigue. The intrigue with a lot of these, though, is the unknown? Like, is this going to happen again where we just take a Sean McVey disciple and we plop them on a team? So now we've got LaFleur in Arizona and it just magically takes care of itself and works because he was touched by Sean McBey. I mean, Kevin O'Connell is one of the best coaches in the NFL, right? And Matt LaFleur has done a great job with Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:28:57 So it's like Liam Cohen, what he did with Jacksonville last year. Yeah, well, it is interesting. I think your close friend, JJ, he had such a good tweet the other day that I was like, such a good point. With Vrable being in the Super Bowl, obviously, McDonald, Signetti winning the national championship, like, expectate, like there are coaches that have kind of turned this shit around so fast. Liam Cohen has built a culture, and Jackson feels like overnight.
Starting point is 00:29:23 Yeah. You know what I mean? It's like expectations are so high for a new batch of a brand new hires. You know what I mean? I feel like some of them aren't going to go great. You know, like there are growing pains. But that's why there's 10 openings too, right? It's like every year we're going to see seven or eight openings.
Starting point is 00:29:39 And in an odd year, we're going to have 10 openings. But like, you're going to have seven or eight coaches to get fired every single year. There's going to be two that surprised you. And maybe this year it was Tomlin walking away and Harbaugh were the surprises and maybe McDermin a little bit. But it's just, it's the way that the coaching world goes. And these guys now basically have two years. Like, you've got two years to prove that we're heading. it in the right direction.
Starting point is 00:30:02 And there's always a cycle, right? And sometimes not even that long, man. Look at Pete Carroll, you know. Yeah, yeah. Sometimes it's one and it's happened quite a bit with the one and done. But the cycle is you get there, you coach for a year, and then you draft a quarterback. And that buys you another year. And it's like they all kind of do the same thing hoping to get to year three.
Starting point is 00:30:19 Yeah. But there are some situations. Yeah, it's just like I live in Arizona, so it's like the frustration with the Cardinals. It's like it's just the same thing over and over and over again. So Michael Flore has his work. cut out for him, but I'm looking forward to seeing what he does. Yeah. Can we talk a little bit about the offensive coordinator hire in Philly recently?
Starting point is 00:30:38 Because we were talking about that. I know you go back with their previous coordinator and stuff like that. Like, I think it's so interesting to bring in kind of Sean Manion. He was my first ever college sack, by the way. Was he really? First ever NFL sack. Yeah. I just thought that was kind of a funny thing.
Starting point is 00:30:56 Just wanted to feel the cheeks, you know. Yeah, I laid on an extra long. got up real slow. Yeah. But they brought in Manning and then Grisard from Tampa, which is so interesting because it feels like to me, again, like... I actually didn't know Grisard. Grisard, is there?
Starting point is 00:31:10 Passing coordinator. Oh, sick. Yeah. Cool. Yeah. Yale guy. Ah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:16 Is that good thing or a bad thing? That's bad, right? You can overthink it sometimes. That's kind of what you guys do in the Ivy League, isn't it? Sponsored by Creatude. But I guess, I don't know, man. like, you know, like Philly guy. And I just think that's, it's been very interesting watching the way that Philadelphia has kind of navigated this offensive coordinator kind of hiring role.
Starting point is 00:31:38 I think it's been interesting because the narrative out there too is like, well, who would want this job? Yeah. You know, the job has produced head coach Shane Steichen, right? It's produced head coach, Kellen Moore. There's one other one I think I'm missing. But then it's also like Brian Johnson was a. a one and done. Kevin Petulow was a one and done. And there was a lot that was made of like, you know, the treatment of him and the media, egging his house, all these different things.
Starting point is 00:32:08 It's a difficult job. And you have a personal relationship with him. Yeah, and I've got a personal relationship with Kevin. And, you know, he had been in that organization for quite a while and his good friends with Siriani. And it's a whole other animal when you go from, whether it's quarterback coach, wide receiver coach, passing game coordinator like Josh Grasart to the guy, the play call our offensive coordinator, the standard is so high in Philly. I think the draw to that job is look at the talent that you're surrounded with. It's unbelievable. Now, the team this year on offense was not the same as the team last year. I think they had some issues up front a little bit, but then you also put in a new coordinator and you keep doing this every year, a new coordinator,
Starting point is 00:32:47 trying to figure it out. They try to do the in-house hire with Kevin Petulow and it just, it didn't work out for a variety of reasons. But I think it'll be good to get, new blood in there just to get an infusion of energy from somewhere else. I don't know Sean Mannion at all. I know Josh Gras. I don't know anything about what he's going to run. Yeah. So Gris did a good job.
Starting point is 00:33:06 It was first time play caller. The hard thing with some of these guys is like, like how do you get experience other than just going out there and doing it? So I think if you ask Gris, like it was a great experience for him last year in Tampa to be a first time play caller. But there's a lot of stuff that he's learning on the go. And they had a ton of injuries last year. So you go into the year.
Starting point is 00:33:26 thinking you're going to be one team and then all of a sudden week three you've got three different receivers and a new left guard and it just it gets difficult and that's stuff you have to learn on the job so there's got to be a little bit of patience and there's no patience in philly which is why it's a tough it's a tough job yeah i'm interested to see how that works out man i truly am fascinated well and stout just stepped away too i know which is that's that's a lot i know philly knows how big that is but to the outside world like that's a huge deal yeah and errin kromer stepped away in Buffalo as well. Those would be two very huge things. We'll keep an eye on as the season progresses next year.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Continue to navigate that one, Fitz. Some weeks come with a national anthem, confetti, and the big game. Most don't, Chris. Either way, let your wine choice do the talking. Silver Oaks promise is simple. Age longer before release so you can open it when the moment shows up. Milestones, big or small, game day or any day. Celebrate now. Visit silveroak.com. You know what I like about Silvero? They're not only make good wine, but this was an easy script to read.
Starting point is 00:34:30 And the wine is fantastic. I actually visited this winery last year in Napa. It's really good, really good experience. Really cool. Fun to see how the wine is made and the process. Cheers. Full bodied? Cheers.
Starting point is 00:34:43 Cheers. Wait. Air cheers. Oh, that's so funny. Okay. And then, hey, Lassie, you want to mix in, you want to mix in some creatine. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:53 This is no bullshit, okay? I'm just telling people, creatine has changed the game for me. Cognition is a big part of it, too. It's not just like, hey, you know, getting jacked or that sort of thing. We're all jacked. You're jacked, bro. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:35:06 I appreciate it. Say it back. But I'm jacked. You're jacked as well. Oh, there it is. Thanks. He is jacked. He is jacked.
Starting point is 00:35:18 Yeah. He is more jacked than almost anybody here. The guy lifts the most. But creatine, he looks like he's on a lot of creatine. A lot. you know do you take creatine how many how many grams do you take i take seven i take seven grams a day um and they're good for your brain i talked about the cognition really important benefits for recovery strength um cognition staying active as you get older um i think everybody should try creatine um and uh you
Starting point is 00:35:44 know i'm not a doctor but you don't need to be one to to be slanging in creatine you got a doctor um you know why did i stop when i start taking it i really do honestly have a hard time keeping my weight on. I've always had a hard time keeping my weight on. I just run I run like a machine that's like a ton of RPM so I'm like always burning calories and shit. Creatine helps me keep my muscle mass on which helps me stay
Starting point is 00:36:06 in the gym, stay strong into my 40s which is a whole you guys will see. It fucking sucks. But creatine helps me there and like even in the afternoon when I got some brain fog or whatever I might take some creatine like half my dose you know and and I really do feel
Starting point is 00:36:22 clear headed after I take it. I have introduced people to creatine. Yeah, I've introduced, I try to get my wife to start taking creatine. She's taking some creatine. Healthy brain, cognitive benefits that get older and the muscle maintenance that, honestly, I wish I took creatine when I played. I did not, because I was always worried about pulling muscles. That's kind of like what people talk about. But you got to take a lot of it to really have tighter muscles. So yeah, I mean, like, listen, I'm a washed up NFL player now and it's kind of the key to me staying in shape enough so people aren't like, what the fuck happened to you. Create gummies, man. Check them out. They really do help.
Starting point is 00:37:00 I want to know how comfortable you are talking about your family and your family life, you know, fire away. This is an exclusive offer for Tate to be a one-time correspondent for the Greenlight podcast exclusive deal. You can't work with any other podcasts. I don't care how closely associated he is with them. And so I want to put that out there because I was ripping Tate's YouTube videos. I think he's got some real talent. He's pretty good, right? He's an intern. So I really, I want him to do a show with us. It can be high school basketball. It can be some sort of studio podcasting where maybe we just discuss the Super Bowl. You think he'd be open to that? I think he would, but it probably had to be a
Starting point is 00:37:38 collab because he has his own podcast called Table Talk. Yeah, Green Light and Table Talk. Green Light X table talk. I just think it's more important that it's not like Table Talk X fits and wit. Like we, I want, you know, I'm doing some pre-scouting here. I'm seeing some talent rise up to the ranks. I'll hop right on it. Okay. So Tate. Tate. You know you're a big YouTube guy.
Starting point is 00:37:57 Well, and he's a big green light guy too. So I'm sure he's seeing this right now. He is. Yeah. Okay. So do I need to give you a permission slip for him to, you know. Let me just do a quick explanation of how cool this is that. So my son's a junior in high school.
Starting point is 00:38:12 They have a whole news network set up at his high school and it's student run. And so they live stream all the basketball games, all the football games. And he went from color commentator to play by play. this year. He's a young Al Michaels. He is a young Al Michaels. Is that his hero in the game? I don't know. You know, his style is weird. He wears these like flowery shirts underneath a coat. I don't know where he gets it from. But it's not the hoodie in the coat, though. No, no. I would disown him if he went hoodie under the coat. What a terrible look that is. Yeah, who would do that? But no, seriously. And I watch, Fitz, so Fitzner were hanging out a couple weeks ago. And like a proud Papa, you were showing me
Starting point is 00:38:53 all the videos and like you know i got i'm not going to lie though like there's it's hard to call a game a basketball game especially like you know that obviously you do that and so like he's out there and he loves it and so we need like he can be our our media correspondent he probably has some suggestions too because they'll do like line live drone shots that come over the basketball arena before they go in so like he could probably add some production value to this we need that yeah it's a cut rate production seriously so tay we'll see you on the pod uh exclusive deal though he can't work he can't work with you guys we're claiming talk to him not me yeah the terms of contract are going to be for life so okay okay so just keep that in mind
Starting point is 00:39:33 i didn't i didn't know how to get into this topic but i've been dying to discuss a cereal day with you because you know what i'm talking about right yeah would we like can you lead me into this because i don't even know how to explain it but i was over at fits his house a couple weeks ago i stayed with him it was awesome that was so much fun man yeah the butter king we had a breakfast burrito the next day. I stayed, showed up. I feel like I got a talent show from your entire family. It's like really the only way to describe it. Yeah. Like I, I came into Fitzh's house. We rolled in late. I was staying with him. It was a whole thing. But basically, Fitzh's kids came out saying opera. Well, she had to practice. She had an audition the next morning. That was insane.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Yeah. Then we went into the sign language. I know. Jake was naked. Yeah, there's just a lot going on in the house. But that's just what we call Tuesday. Yeah, exactly. So cereal day in our house, my father-in-law started this with my older boys. Brady and Tate. Brady is now in college. Tate's a junior in high school. They've been doing it for like the last seven or eight years.
Starting point is 00:40:31 When he comes into town, he lives in Iowa, they'll spend one day. Well, they'll go to the store and they'll get whatever cereal they want. That's underselling it. So this started with it was probably 20 boxes, right? They come home and it's like, all right, this is ridiculous. That's like two weeks worth cereal for you guys? Yeah, we eat a lot of cereal. A lot of cereal, seven kids.
Starting point is 00:40:52 Every year they got to step it up. So last year, I think it was 98 boxes of cereal, which is like three carts. And, you know, the people checking out are like, what are we doing here? But my father-in-law loves it. We have a supply for about six months because of that. But we have huge on fruity pebbles. Yeah, fruity pebbles. Are you a fruity pebbles guy?
Starting point is 00:41:11 Historically, yeah. I think the problem with me with fruity pebs is you got a house and fit faster else they get pretty soggy. They turn into paste. So when the kids put those in the sink and we don't get to them, it just turns into a paste and I'm the one that has to take the steel wool. Just a chisel. Yeah. CTC is a big one in our house too, which I know you're a CTC guy.
Starting point is 00:41:32 A big CTC guy. Yeah. The other ones, we always do one raisin brand because Liza hates it. And it sits there for a year until he, and then we throw it away. It's like the last one to go every year. Yeah. Grape nuts isn't a good one either. So your personal favorite is Frutipabs or what?
Starting point is 00:41:48 No, I'm anti-frutty pebs. I'm a very boring cereal eater. I would say honeynut shirios or rice cheques. Honeynut Cheerios are great. Rice checks, it's just like, yeah. But you got to eat them quickly because the crispiness of the rice check is really important. Yeah. And so when I was there, I was like, what, two weeks ago, you guys had just almost gotten through all the cereal.
Starting point is 00:42:10 Yeah, and we've got a cereal mixer. So there's just like you would see in a hotel, there's six of them. And you spin the wheel. Sometimes you just do the suicide where you do a little bit of each. Oh, wow. Yeah. So if you're feeling dangerous. That's, yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:22 Man. This is great content. This is great content, dude. You spell cereal with an S? You can probably pronounce it serial or whatever. Because you're out of here eating crayons. And then another thing, so this is like, I'm doing such a bad job about like kind of leading into this. But basically, Fitz and I were just together and I was hanging out of this whole family.
Starting point is 00:42:43 It was fucking awesome. And your youngest, this is his birthday. And, you know, Fitz's head of legendary career and has played with so many great players. And when I fucking wake up at Fitz's house, Jake, his youngest son, he wears a jersey, like just about every day. Every single day he wears the jersey. And he had a 91 Allen jersey on. Oh, we got to get him. So it's just his Allen on the back.
Starting point is 00:43:04 I would rather it's a butter king. I feel like that's better. Well, I signed it. I said stay buttery Jake. But you'd ask, you're like, dude, do you have any cards? Because Jake collects cards. I was like, bro, I don't have any cards. I went home.
Starting point is 00:43:15 when I found a couple. And I texted you about this, but this is one of the Eagles cards I found. Look at the last day there. Oh, they spelled it wrong. They spelled it wrong. Oh, no. So that's one of one.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Yeah. Boa Lawn. Don't let, don't let Golden, Ken Golden get his hands on there. This looks like you made this card. No, this isn't a real car. It's not even branded. Is it like out of a cereal box?
Starting point is 00:43:36 Yeah, yeah, yeah. You got to eat 10,000 boxes of checks. Did you win a Super Bowl? Yes. You want to talk about it or no? Okay, so then look, here, that's the box. This is when we met. Look at that. That's the,
Starting point is 00:43:47 I saw the cheeks downstairs. That was, yeah. It's, it's one of my, it's one of the things in life now that I miss the most is your cheeks, because you've lost quite a bit of weight.
Starting point is 00:43:59 Yeah, I know. And especially, I mean, 91 in Tampa, but 94 in Philly. Fat bud. Oh,
Starting point is 00:44:05 it was special. I would, I would say, so you play a lot of football, I would say best white ass in the, in,
Starting point is 00:44:13 in the 2010 era. Self-proclaimed, best white ass. I was cheathed up, dude. Yeah, I know. Just keep back, yep. Well, to that point, so my brother lives next door to me.
Starting point is 00:44:24 So when Bo was at my house, we go next door, my brother has a weight room in his garage with the records. And so best squat, best clean, best bench, and the Butter King
Starting point is 00:44:35 walked over there and put his name up there, the Butter King, Best squat, 675. Nice, right. That's awesome. With these cheeks.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Oh, really? I did that at October. Yeah. Well. But you can still get parallel, I bet. Yeah, pretty good depth. Yeah. We got a garage.
Starting point is 00:44:51 We got a zone garage weight room set up downstairs. We can get a pump before you got to head over. Okay. I'm a lower body guy. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I know you've got to run over here to Radio Row, and I got through all my lovely handwritten questions.
Starting point is 00:45:06 It's kind of all I got, man. Just yapping it up. That's great. Talking about football cheeks. Uncle Bo, baby. Uncle Bo, baby. The kids love you. I'm telling you, man.
Starting point is 00:45:16 Go into your house. I was dying because I can't remember like, what's the YouTube show with the daddy and daughter that had on? Salish? Yeah, Salish. You need to do a little, you got a fucking playhouse campground. I know, but I have zero interest, like putting that in the open. Like, it just, you need to come and just enjoy it. I need to come beat all y'all asses at Katon, dude, because I've been talking a lot of shit.
Starting point is 00:45:41 You got no chance. Brady emasculated me with that photo. that you took. Macy, Macy would dominate. Really? She's a killer. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:50 It's very important in my household to learn Katan very early. Yeah. So like it's a difficult game. When you start reading the rules, you're like, oh my gosh, this is ridiculous. Well, I'm the sheriff. I know all the rules, dude.
Starting point is 00:46:01 I know you do. But to teach an eight-year-old how to play Katan. So Jake is now seven. Jake can play Katan. I would love that. Yeah. But the problem is he's always going for
Starting point is 00:46:11 longest road. And you know his strategy beforehand. And it just, it doesn't work out for him. In the end, there's a lot of tears. But I still take the victory. He's just trying to get places. He's trying to build those roads. But I still, like, anytime I mention you, my boys are like,
Starting point is 00:46:23 didn't he play Klaus Tuber's son in a tournament of Catan and beat him? I mean. So, Claus Tuber, he's the founder. His name's on the game. He founded, I played in an online game with him, and I won. I've been, fuck it. Was it Klaus Tuber? No, it was.
Starting point is 00:46:39 It's a weird last name. Heraldo. Heraldi Tuber. Yeah. And what a name. Right? But I beat him. And it was only like halfway through the game that I realized I was trying super hard and
Starting point is 00:46:48 you know it. It was like a charity game for them. If you had to rank those Super Bowl victory meeting me and beating Klaus Tuber, rank them one, two, three, or Klaus Tuber's son. I mean, the Ketan one was big for me. I know. That's why I wanted to make it hard. Meeting you.
Starting point is 00:47:07 Getting you on the pod. Oh, fuck. I wanted to ask you about your sprinter, man. What about it? Guys, can you just talk about the vehicles? Like, okay, Fitz has seven kids, like we've discussed. He has two sprinter vans that he rips around with the kids in. And I just want to mention that because it's the fucking greatest thing in the world, dude.
Starting point is 00:47:26 Yeah, I mean, when you go from six kids to seven, what you realize is it's a big decision only because you no longer fit in a minivan. And so I swear to you, it was the first time that Liza and I had to sit down and be like, should we have another kid? Because we just kept having them. We just kept having them. And it was like, well, if we have another kid, we're going to have to get a different vehicle. So it was a serious discussion. Here's the other thing. We're very fortunate.
Starting point is 00:47:53 We could get whatever van we would like. We got a Nissan envy, 12 passenger van because your kids, when they're young, destroy the thing. They trash it. It's gross.
