Makin thinks I'm high, which I'm not.
And I wasn't high when I missed my flight by 82 minutes,
which is a world record.
Did that this week.
We'll talk about that.
Welcome to Greenlight Pod with me, your host, Chris Long,
and real estate mogul, Macon.
Can I say your last name?
People know it on Twitter, making Gunter.
Yeah.
Getting Pod famous these days.
Didn't even mean to do this.
kind of came in one day like, hey, maybe I can lend a hand. Did you see Chalk Media's effort to get me
to 1,000 followers a couple days ago? How'd you feel about that and where are we? Got like one favorite,
I think. Felt really good about it. I think I went from 236 to 249, but in a blink of an eye.
I mean, I feel like if that's pushed out a little bit more, I'm there in no time. If you're in the
millions of follower, follower stratosphere, that's 100,000, you know, like I'm no mathematician, but.
Right. And good luck trying to spell.
my name too if you're actually
if you're in need
of Virginia sports takes
I had a lot of jokes
the first time I learned your name in sixth grade
I would like walk up to you
on the playground I wouldn't say it was bullying
I was never a bully but you had a funny
name yeah
especially at that age
it's and
a lot of making bacon
growing up it's now turned
making home by an easy
Yes
Finally turned into a plus
Made
Yeah
To push MLS
Just pushing it
If you watch last week
We had a big
I had a big
Sex Robot monologue
That making
We're not asking you to weigh in on the robots
I'm just saying that
I talked about my fear of sex robots
Last week on the pod
Or this week
So check that out if you haven't heard it
Some important
insightful social and political commentary there.
Yeah, on brand for you.
On brand for me, off brand for making.
But even the animal kingdom is having to face the prospect of
the digosexual movement, as we call it.
This is a video, I think.
At first glance, it's a healthy buck.
Oh, my gosh.
The head fell off.
Is that a decoy or a sex robot?
Who's in the foreground there?
Is that another deer?
I think it's a coyote.
That's a coyote.
The coyote's just watching like,
what the fuck, the whole world's going to hell.
We got deer sex robots.
This is why you didn't send me the rundown for today's show.
Exactly.
I just wanted to slip that one in on you.
So this week,
the most notable thing that happened to me was,
how shitty my Thursday was.
Listen, on Thursdays, I have to go to New Jersey,
Mount Laurel to NFL films to shoot the live show,
Amazon Prime, NFL Next with Kay Adams, James Coe.
They're awesome.
Check it out.
Kay is a friend of the program.
She listens.
One of our biggest celebrity listeners.
Thank you, Kay.
I know you're listening.
Thanks.
If I see you next time and you don't say you're welcome,
I know you're not actually listening to the pod.
See how I did that.
But to get up there, usually I fly from Charlottesville, Virginia to Philly.
It's a short jaunt.
And boy, are your arms tired?
Why?
It's a flying job.
I fly at a fucking airplane to Philadelphia out of Charlottesville Airport.
And this week I was a little predisposed Thursday morning.
I was very frantic.
And I get this way sometimes I have something north of ADD.
I don't want to say it's ADHD.
I'm pretty sure it is.
varying opinions on that.
So I glance at my itinerary
and I see that I am on a 1250 flight
to Philadelphia, which I take every week, right?
So I show up for my 1250 flight at 1215
because at Charlottesville Airport.
End and out.
You can grab and go.
Yep.
Fastest operation time in America.
Agreed.
Like a NASCAR pit crew.
I get there at 1215.
I rush up.
Because I'm never the one.
Are you an hour plus before a flight guy?
You seem like one.
A little bit.
I'm not.
I don't subscribe to that.
I don't.
I'm not going to, I'm not going to pander to that crowd.
I'm going to be there in under an hour, especially if I don't have to check a bag.
So I get there.
I check the kiosk, exclamation point.
Go see the nice lady at the American Airlines desk.
I go, I say, I'm here for the 1250 flights.
She said, where to Chicago?
I say, no, to Philadelphia.
She says,
You must be at the wrong airline.
And at that moment, it hit me that my flight had left at 1140 a.m.
And I am a moron.
So I say, you know what?
You're right, ma'am.
I am.
Well, explain the 1250 to 1140 disconnect.
Well, the problem is that the flight lands at 1250.
So as I looked at the itinerary.
That'll do it.
You know, it's just numbers, man.
You know, just numbers.
So as I play it cool and I'm like, you know what, ma'am, you're right.
I'm going to go to the other desk.
right over here.
You couldn't admit it.
In just the moment, because that is the problem.
And I slowly wait.
I back away, almost trip over somebody.
I look like Jimmy G.
And as I look over my shoulder, she turns her head and I bold out the door.
She probably thought there was something wrong.
But it was at that moment I realized that I had to drive up to New Jersey and fight rush hour traffic
to get to the NFL next broadcast, which I usually, believe it or not, they put makeup on us.
I do makeup, cover some of these laugh lines
because I'm a very happy person.
Give me a little bit of a glow in these pre-winter months.
I'm starting to turn into powder
from the motion picture.
I didn't have time to do any of that, really.
I had to just change and get out on set,
and we had a good show.
So that was good, and I'm thinking my day's starting to turn.
I like the Steelers Money Line.
I hop on a flight back.
I just leave my car up there.
By the way, on my drive up to New Jersey,
I get in traffic on one of those godforsaken Maryland roads
and I've been hydrating because I need to be at my best.
Man, I got to pee.
Exits not coming.
I get to the gas station parking lot, bro.
It's too late.
I peed in two bottles, bro.
In a gas station parking lot?
Couldn't make it.
Could not make it.
By the way, it's hard to pee in bottles.
Not something you do a lot, but for the dudes out there listening,
like, it is a, it's a struggle.
To struggle to just like, no, we got, yeah, the gas station has a bathroom.
You know, it's, you know?
Yep.
Did this gas station have a bathroom?
Yeah, it did, but it looked like one of those that you got to go to the front,
and the guy's like, ah, I think we got a bathroom.
Like, where's the key?
And by the, I had hit the point of no return.
And as my, taking into account,
how my day had gone to that point,
I was like, man, I'm not gonna make it.
Like, I'm literally in a gas station parking lot.
Like, how did I get here, bro?
Bottle of vitamin water.
Need to transfer to the second bottle of vitamin water.
TMI?
Yeah, how'd that go?
Not bad.
Better than I thought.
I get back on the road.
I wash my hands thoroughly upon arrival.
to the NFL
or NFL films
headquarters.
I get out there
we nail the show
so I'm sorry.
Did you wet white
your steering wheel
when you got it?
Yeah, I did the whole thing.
All right,
you jetted back.
I jetted back
and I've got Steelers money line.
Things are going great, right?
Right.
Things are turning
on my Thursday.
I get home.
The Steelers have decided
that they're not going to run
the football.
James Conner's out.
You got people bleeding
out of their ears, which is not funny. You've got multiple ejections. At the end of the game
as Mason Rudolph throws like his fourth pick, I turn the TV off and I am settling into bed to just
say, you know what, it's been a bad day. Love my wife and kids. I'm happy and healthy.
Perspective, right? Then my phone blows up. Did you see that? Did you see that? Did you see that? Did you see that?
Did you see that? My Twitter, got anything to say? I'm like, bro, it's 1230. I'm going to
going to sleep. I see the video. It's bad. And it's unsettling. And of course for me,
nobody's talking about the game and we're not going to talk about the game. I mean,
here, let me summarize it for you. The Steelers have a better chance of winning the playoffs and
the Browns. I'll leave it at that. And Baker looked better. But Miles Garrett struck somebody
with his helmet. He struck Rudolph right in the head with the helmet. There were things that
that preceded that, that are certainly relevant,
but I'm not gonna lead with that,
because make no mistake, as I get into this thing,
I am not caping for miles,
and the very reason I wasn't ready to reduce my take
to 240 characters at 1230 in the morning,
as if I was the president and I have to address everything,
is the reason I take to this pod
and something that's really important that happens,
deserves to be talked in in context and nuance.
And that's not to say that the context and the nuance
erases the worst actor in the situation, which is Miles.
And Miles is full disclosure.
He's the guy that I handed the keys to for Waterboys.
When I retired, we had our sights set on this kid
for well over a year.
I flew to Cleveland, met his parents,
spent time with Miles, talked about this thing.
I had the utmost confidence in him.
as a member of the community
and as a representative for Waterboys.
And I still think Miles Garrett is a good person.
That did a very bad thing last night.
That's, and those two things I think are totally reasonable
to think at the same time.
And he put it in his own words,
embarrassing, foolish, bad representation of his team
is a mistake, lost his cool, all true.
He also lost probably his image for a lot of people
and lost money, the ruling his,
He's just come down, he's gonna be suspended
indefinitely through the regular season.
And the playoffs, Browns aren't going to the playoffs.
So the way I'm looking at it is he's gonna be out
the rest of the year.
And I think that's, you're not gonna hear any argument for me.
It was wrong, he got carried away, he lost his cool,
and he's certainly not the first person
to lose his cool on a football field in a game
or in practice, I'll get to that in a bit.
But you're not gonna hear me like yes,
Mason Rudolph started it, whatever.
Mason Rudolph might have grabbed his junk.
All wrong.
I don't know how I'd react in that situation,
but this is how it goes.
You hit a guy in the head with a helmet really hard.
You're going to get suspended.
And I love Miles,
and I think he's a,
it's so confusing me because it's so out of character for him.
He's so even keeled.
He's so intelligent.
He's been such a good brand representative for Waterboys.
And I hope that he stays involved
and we'll get to that in a minute.
And something to point out is that this story is 18 hours old or so.
Full disclosure, we're taping this thing on a Friday.
There'll be more details that come out, and I'm very curious to see what prompted it.
It probably, very likely, will not justify it, but I do want to hear more.
Now, that's part of context.
And this is a big story.
Big stories deserve context and nuance.
It just surprised me.
And it's been unsettling because I know
that I have to give a take on this thing.
And I don't wanna fuel the fire of people
that are just now gonna be gratuitous.
But we are brothers in this league
and we gotta take better care of each other.
And that's Miles included.
And the sequence was, Miles hits him late.
Some people would say, I mean, he was bringing him
to the ground in the grass.
Miles' face mask is buried in Rudolph's chest.
And that's a plausible explanation
that he thinks he has the ball.
Maybe he doesn't.
It's a late hit.
In a game that had been decided.
In a game that's been decided.
And Rudolph gets in his face mask,
tries to pull his helmet off,
maybe grabs at his eyes.
And then there's like the groin thing is,
Miles is being pulled away by two linemen, and he strikes him in the dome with the helmet,
which weighs evidently six pounds. It's not, that's not to be taken lightly. He hit him,
he hit him right on, he hit him right on the button. And, you know, had it been a little bit
different, he could have been hurt worse. And by the way, Rudolph's coming off a concussion.
I don't think these are things that Miles is thinking about this is certainly not predetermined.
He lost his cool. But a picture is worth a thousand words. I say,
said that, you know, this isn't the first time something like this has happened in the NFL.
It's the most documented time that this has happened. This is Thursday night football. This isn't
a 1 p.m. on Sunday. This is everybody's watching. It's a rivalry game, depending on what you
think of what a rivalry game entails. And the cameras are better than never. I mean,
that was just like you could watch it in slow motion from three different angles. You could see
the entire thing.
And Twitter right now is ablaze with either extreme, which is he needs to go to jail,
and the other extreme is caping for Miles, which I'm not doing either.
Miles was wrong, and both those people on either end of the spectrum are dead wrong.
I liked what Baker said.
I mean, maybe you'd say it a little bit differently, but if it were me, I'd say,
Miles, I'm a big fan of Miles.
He's a great person.
This was way out of character, and we have to take care of each other.
I can't comment any further other than that.
It seems to me that he was very wrong.
Would you have declined the interview request on the field
knowing that you're about to walk into that locker room?
I might do that,
but if I'm getting interviewed and I'm not thinking,
which I don't know what he saw in real time.
I really don't.
I mean, I don't know if they're showing the replay in that stadium.
I don't know what his vantage point is.
But if you're in the situation where you have a microphone on your face,
I don't have a huge problem with Baker
acknowledging that it's wrong.
Everybody knows if they saw it
that a suspension is coming down.
Anybody reasonable.
And of course, Rudolph, his agent
is not ruling out legal options.
We'll see how that goes.
Again, I love Miles.
He's dead wrong.
He's suspended.
You won't hear an argument for me,
but there is precedent for this.
And this is what drives me crazy.
You see people like Peter King
keep that comment in mind.
and Peter and I have worked together on stuff before he's interviewed me.
I got no issue with Peter, but he's wrong here.
And any NFL player right now, whether it's clout chasing or ignorance,
saying that they've never seen anything like this in our game, is full of shit.
They just are.
And me pointing that out does not mean I'm condoning what Miles did.
This is the right punishment.
He's dead wrong.
But Antonio Smith didn't connect.
as squarely with Ritchie Incognito,
but it's happened within the last decade.
Smith was suspended, and it was a preseason game.
Two preseason games, one regular season game,
and it took two days to suspend him.
This obviously came down much swifter.
There's the Haynes' worst stomp,
which everybody points to.
That's a five-game suspension.
That was 30 stitches.
I mean, he's a 350-pound man.
Had he connected there?
I don't know what happens to a skull.
but it's probably not pretty.
This is not unprecedented.
It's not unprecedented in football.
It's not unprecedented in sports.
McSorley in 2000 took a stick to the back of Bershear's head.
I'm also a hockey watcher.
And somebody said to me, well, McSorley never came back.
He never got back on the ice.
So what do you think is going to happen to Miles?
McSorley was in his 17th year.
Miles is still in his prime.
Miles is a good person that did a really bad thing
and people fairly are going to hold this against him for a while.
He's got a long road ahead of him, but he's in the prime of his career.
There's no reason to equate those two instances in what the fallout should be.
Another person that did this was who did it in Floselle Adams, in 08.
And there weren't the camera angles because it was a joint practice,
but he struck a dude straight in the head with the helmet in a training camp fight.
Don Joyce
on Richter in 54
Everybody remembers that, right?
So you've got 2008,
you've got whatever year it was
that Antonio Smith did it to
incognito, and then
bookended, you have somebody in the 1950s
doing it, which obviously wasn't as big a deal.
The guy wasn't even suspended, but look at what happened
to his face. I mean,
and of course, they said back then,
boys will be boys. That's how far
we've come, rightfully so, we can't treat things like that, but you've got bookended.
The origins of football, you've got a bad incident. You have a couple bad incidents in the
last 10 to 15 years that were caught on tape. Any pro football players played over a decade in a
league has seen guys swinging helmets at each other. I'm not saying it's a regular occurrence.
Maybe they didn't connect every time, but I think Joe Green did it in 1970. I think Joe Green did it
actually against the Cleveland Browns,
somebody told me this morning.
So I would ask Peter King
if he passed Joe Green in a hallway
how he would treat Joe Green.
Joe Green's a Hall of Famer.
Huge fan of Joe Green, did a ton for the game,
had his moments where he earned that moniker,
mean Joe Green.
I know we've evolved since 1970,
but let's not act like we've never seen something like this before.
We've never seen something like this so clearly before.
Just say that.
and I've never been on Twitter reading everybody's tweets at the same time,
calling for somebody's head in perpetuity as a member of the media.
Just say that.
You got a blue check.
You work for ESPN, whatever.
So you've got to use hyperbole.
Miles Garrett is wrong,
but Miles Garrett is not the first person to ever hit somebody with a helmet in the NFL.
You're full of shit if you say that.
Just stop, full stop.
And full stop to Miles.
that's not okay.
But he's also a good person.
And I'm confident that eventually,
if anybody can come out of this okay,
it's him.
He's got to take his medicine.
And a lot of people, of course, turn to me.
They're like, well, this is the guy you handed the keys to
for water boys.
Yeah, I mean, this isn't a great,
it's not a, it hadn't been a great couple days.
I mean, seeing that,
seeing that, you know, as somebody who has to make that decision,
I've never had to make a decision like this.
Like people are like, are you going to punish him?
And I haven't talked to Miles.
I texted him, but I'm not going to pull Miles off Waterboys
because he did something bad on a football field.
Miles Garrett's got a long road ahead of him.
He's going to have to go through steps.
I don't know if it's anger management or whatever,
with the league, whatever comes down,
but I'm not going to take away the thing
that he's put a lot of passion into
to helping people
and it's trying to take the baton and run with it.
I mean, we're not going to be pumping Miles Garrett footage
the next two weeks on the website,
but my man's got a long road.
Part of it might be, hey, get busy trying to do good things,
which he's continued to do.
And taking that away makes no sense.
So if you're watching this and you're saying,
Chris, you know, you're biased or,
I mean, do I seem fucking biased right now?
you would tell me the truth. Yeah, no, no you don't. And I think what you are saying is we as humans are
all flawed. We are all better than our worst mistake. Yes. And his happened to come on live television.
It's going to get replayed for the rest of his life. Yes. Like it or not. I don't think the move is to
forbid him from trying to provide, say, clean water in Africa. Yeah. Yeah. So I mean, anybody saying that to me,
if you're a donor and you insist that Garrett is removed from Waterboys, I'm sorry.
I will survive.
No offense.
And I appreciate your donation.
But what I'm not going to do is abandon a kid that I've seen do a lot of good who just did a shitty thing in a rage last night.
I'm not going to do that.
So he's got a long road.
He was wrong.
There were other people who were wrong.
He was the most wrong.
I'm not going to do a segment on Mason Rudolph.
off, not gonna do it.
Don't know what I do if I got,
if those things happen to me, but can't do it
and you hurt your team, you hurt yourself,
and he knows it.
So the one winner last night in a weird way,
although they might not feel this way,
is the NFL because they don't have to talk about CAP
leading up to this workout.
Right.
I mean, this is the first thing
and the only thing that has been able to kill
this whole story, which has been developing all weeks.
So as we record this pod, things could change leading up to the workout.
But the Lions fans weighed in to our friends in Detroit, our listeners in Detroit.
After decades of rooting for arguably the worst franchise in sports,
Lions fans are now threatening to rescind their fandom over Colin Kaepernick.
It's amazing.
From the big lead.
Poignant caption.
I mean, you know, I feel about Cap.
I think he was a good football player at his best,
even a great, great football player at his best.
And even at his worst,
it can't justify him being out of league.
It can't justify what's happened the past couple years.
Last time I played him in 16,
he was on a very bad football team.
And his interception,
or touchdown interception ratio was pretty good.
It's better than most backups in the league right now.
It's better than some starting quarterbacks.
He had one year that I thought
he's really shitty right now, and I think that was 15.
You're talking about a guy, and I've said this a bunch,
that doesn't get enough credit in that Super Bowl run.
In some people's eyes, they want to justify that run as the defense
because of all those names, Bowman, the Smith brothers, Patrick Willis,
all those guys.
They were stacked.
They were also stacked defensively, offensively,
but Cap beat the Green Bay Packers.
and it wasn't like a 10-13-10 ball game in the Super Bowl
a call or two here or there,
they got a Lombardi trophy.
Guys that win Super Bowls and aren't 35
don't end up out of the league two years later.
So you know where I stand on that?
You know, last snap and 16,
flirted with the Seahawks in 17,
filed a grievance in 17 with Eric Reed
and quietly settled it in 2019.
The details being very private.
Now we're at this thing
where we have this impromptu bizarre workout
out in Atlanta.
As of right now, it's 13 teams that are attending.
Couple interesting ones for me was Washington,
New England, the Broncos, and the dolphins.
New England, because there's a solid possibility
that Bill's looking at this as an opportunity.
I think this is one of the few teams
is looking at as an immediate need that they could fill
where we gotta play the Ravens again.
Who's the fucking sirens?
What's the budget in this studio?
Can we get some soundproofing?
What is, what's Bill's aim if he's sending people to this workout?
I actually think I have a hot take that Bill Belichick likes Cap.
I'm not saying he likes his politics or however he's gone about things.
And by the way, when I got to New England,
I should remind people every 30 seconds during this segment that I am Pro Cap.
When I got to New England, I spoke out on it immediately after being cut by the Rams.
So my sweat equity is in this thing.
But Bill might not agree with some of the methods.
I don't know, you'd have to ask him.
I know he likes him as a football player.
He played well in New England when they played him back in the day.
I think for a second there, I wondered if Cap could be brought into New England.
I still wonder at times in a fantasy world to replace Tom after he leaves.
I think in the immediacy,
I think Bill looks at it as we're playing Greg Roman again at some point.
You know, can you prep us for that game?
Can you give us some Greg Roman intel?
I don't know if Cap would go for that,
but that would be why I think New England would be there,
along with maybe the long play,
which would be really cool at some point.
You know, I don't think, I think Robert Kraft,
although people have, some of his allies are very questionable,
you know, the social justice stuff, he's on that page,
he's trying to get on that page.
Another owner that's tried to get on that page
has been Ross in Miami, who notably we kind of went
our separate ways with the Players Coalition over some things.
And I think Ross, who's led rise and is very proud
of his social justice work and he's done some good work,
we disagreed with his holding a fundraiser for Trump,
not to get political here.
at his house, it seemed to run counter
to some of the values, the core values
that he was trying to push.
So we amicably parted ways.
I think Ross was a little wounded by that.
I could see him trying to regain his credibility.
He's very proud of the work he's done, rightfully so.
I could see him bringing in cap in some capacity in Miami.
Or football or for PR?
I think a little bit of both.
I mean, certainly they could use him from a football
standpoint, but I think that Ross, there's something be said there for Ross sending his people
there at the very least to say we were there because that stuff's important to Ross. His image is
important to him. Do you have any insight as to why now? Eric Reid has said this week that it feels
disingenuous. It feels like a PR stunt. So it's weird. It's very weird. And initially, I'm always
going to be skeptical of the league when it comes to this social justice stuff, although we have
had to work with them on different levels of the coalition and their necessary evils at times.
You know, the league usually, teams usually run these workouts on Tuesdays.
So Saturday's weird right off the bat.
How it's gone down is weird.
The sequencing of Hugh Jackson running it.
Hugh Jackson's running it.
It's kind of a shit show.
And you know, you might see some wide receivers you hadn't seen.
You might see like maybe an Ocho Cinco pop up there to catch some balls, a Des Bryant.
Run a post.
Yeah.
The interview and the workout is going to 32 teams.
There's video there.
it's also going to go to the media.
Now, Cap wanted the list of teams that were going to be there.
He still hasn't gotten it.
And as of today, he's attending.
And the league is not going to send him the list.
So again, this generally happens on Tuesdays,
but I think what's happening here, and I'll start with this,
is that the league has tried to throw something together hastily.
I don't know if their intentions are ever good,
but I do think that there's a number of teams
that have inquired about Cap to the league.
And part of me is like, well, that's proof of collusion,
that they have to go through the league
to bring them in for a workout.
But I think some of these teams are afraid
that if they bring cap in on Tuesday,
there's gonna be 10,000 people descending upon their facility,
whether that concern is warranted or right or wrong,
and that's gonna fuck up their flow
and they're trying to win games.
So this takes the pressure off of individual teams
to try to put this impromptu thing together on Saturday.
When somebody says it's a PR stump of the NFL,
I would contend that they must be
the worst public relations people of all time
because it makes no sense.
This act has ostracized both extremes here.
This act, because of the healthy skepticism
that pro cap people have,
has people wagging the finger at the NFL,
Malcolm, Reed, fans, people on Twitter.
And if you are anti-cap, it's infuriated people,
like the people with the paper
bags over their heads in Detroit.
I don't even know how to do a Midwestern accent, but they're like,
oh, in 16, I can deal with that.
Not a guy who wants to stop police brutality.
I can't do, I can't, that's where it stops for me.
I'm turning in, I'm going to Michigan State games now, which aren't much better.
So I think if it's a PR stunt, it's one of the worst executed of all time.
It's coming off the heels of the best weekend of football, as we talked about,
in all year, a bunch of one-score games.
You've got marquee matchups happening this weekend
and why would we do this on a Saturday?
How is that helping the league the day before?
Unless you're thinking it's like a presidential playbook
and there's something as a diversion act,
like look over here.
I'm not a deep, deep, deep conspiracy theory guy,
but I am interested as to what's going on.
And I'll close with this on this topic.
As weird as this whole thing is,
God, I hope it's not a smokescreen
and I hope Cap ends up
back in the league because as a football player, he deserves a shot at it.
And I don't know what his prerequisites are financially, playing time,
role, that can shake out.
I certainly hope it's not a smokescreen because the NFL cannot afford another
resume hit on this topic.
It really just can't.
It's been too sloppy.
Previewing some of these games this weekend, and some of you guys are sighing
a breath of relief
because we're getting off the quote unquote
political shit, but we had to hit it.
We've got some big games.
Some games keep an eye on.
Rams, after getting their ass kicked
by a team that looked very hapless
last this Thursday,
are headed out to the West Coast.
First time they played in a coliseum in a long time.
The bears have really struggled
stopping the run since Hicks left.
You know, when I asked my boy Big Cat about it,
he was concerned for the bears.
I don't want to out him as not having a lot of faith,
but we talked about the run game,
the numbers are there.
It's been a different defense,
and the Rams, I think we'll commit to running the ball.
Keep an eye on the under.
Yeah, we talked about it,
Gurley 12 carries last week.
Do they set them free or is?
There's nothing that you gotta burn the ships at this point
unless there's some major health concern.
Like if you've been saving him for a playoff push,
guess what?
It's like past midnight.
No, this is the push.
This is the push.
You're gonna turn into a pumpkin here soon.
Trubisky, 13 games now under 300 yards in a row,
but has more touchdowns than Jared golf since week six.
So going to be interesting.
Another thing to look at is Mack,
and I know what being a pass rusher who's pressing it in a slump,
feels like I think Mac has a big day.
He's got zero sacks in four of his last five games,
and that doesn't feel good coming off a big year like last year.
Certainly it's not his fault.
He gets a lot of attention with Hicks going down,
the lack of leads, you know, the whole thing.
I think he gets a two piece and I think this game is,
the line's like six, I think it's closer than that.
Chiefs Chargers down in Mexico City.
I heard the air quality is not great, altitude's not great,
not a game that I ever was excited to play in.
You played in Mexico City?
No, I would have never been excited to do it though.
Yeah, and last year is when they sent it back to the States.
Yeah.
And we got that 54-51 Monday nighter.
That was supposed to be a shootout down there, yeah.
But ended up being, and ironically, we talked about it.
We talked about it earlier this week.
Like, it's been a year as of this Sunday since that,
and look how far the Rams have spiraled offensively.
Chief Chargers, you know, the Chargers,
the last time they beat the Chiefs,
it snapped a nine-game series win streak.
I think it's back to business as usual.
Rivers has tossed 11 picks
the last five times they played
I think that one could get relatively ugly
could be wrong
Eagles Pats
another game that people are going to be looking at
it's a rematch of the Super Bowl
a few years ago
I was there
me too
you were there
how were the seats
Eagles Pats
50 yard line
but my
my nose was bleeding
had a great time
But a Super Bowl ticket, right?
Yeah.
Did you ever pay me for that ticket?
Yeah.
Did you?
In a way.
How?
Well, not monetarily, but fellowship.
Oh, because you remember, because do you remember a few pods ago?
Yeah.
Well, you just got set up.
Yeah.
Do you remember a few pods ago?
You said, I haven't been paid for this podcast.
Right, I hadn't.
And then you contended that I never let people come to games for free during my career.
No.
Run the tape back.
I said occasionally.
Oh.
Well, when you're going on your fifth trip to the Edward Jones Dome, at some point, the free lunch is over.
Oh, I'm sorry.
Can't be like Club Med.
The Jones Dome and the flight to the multiple flights to St. Louis layover in Midway to support a friend.
And hey, I'm going to need a lot. Midway has really, Midway has very good airport sushi.
Kind of topical today.
But the Eagles have won eight straight at home against A.F.
teams, whatever that means, Pat's 14 and 4.
Last 18 on the road against NFC teams.
Eagles, good matchups.
I think they have really good matchups up front, the O line especially.
And I'm not talking about the New England stand-up guys.
No, they're total studs, but if there's a weakness on that defense, it's the pass rush
that's not generated by pressure, zeroing up and bringing people.
And if you're going to rush three or four, good luck.
I think that in the run game,
there are some concerns about Jordan Howard's health
coming to Sunday.
Alshan's injury,
you're going to need that O-line to play really big.
The Pat's best matchups, of course,
are in the secondary.
Both Brady throwing at the Eagles secondary
and the Pat's back seven defensively.
Yeah, we'll talk to Steve later,
not that he's an NFL expert,
but Chief's just a four-point favorite,
Pat's just a three-and-a-half-point favorite.
It's going to get weird.
I'm certainly not going to pick
the Pats, because that's kind of sacrilege.
I know I played on both teams, but I identify
a little bit more as an eagle.
And another matchup I worry about
that the Pats have is those
running backs on the backers.
I've struggled a little bit in coverage
with the Eagles. I mean, they use them
like receivers. So,
Lions Cowboys,
you know, this is
an interesting one because
on paper you're looking at it and you're saying,
with Matt Stafford, he's out, right?
Maybe. I think he's probably out.
Not that I have an insider take on that,
but since 2017 and the Cowboys have been 14 and 2 versus the NFC East,
they've been 10 and 5 otherwise.
Matt Patricia has ruled Matt Stafford out.
Nice.
So I was right.
Cowboys, great matchup on the O line.
They've only given up like 11 sacks this year.
I think it's the least in the league.
I don't know if it's 11 exactly.
It's somewhere in my memory.
I think they've got a really good matchup with a Detroit pass rush
that has struggled to be,
as advertised this year.
I do think the Cowboys win this game,
although all those numbers tell you
the opposite is gonna happen.
Cowboys, you go on the road in Detroit,
or is it in Dallas?
It's in Detroit.
It's in Detroit.
You go to Detroit and get beat by backup quarterback,
we are canceling the Cowboys.
And you're in Foxborough the week after.
Yeah, we're gonna cancel the Cowboys
if we lose this game.
Jaguars Colts,
my buddy Nick Foles is back,
and I know there's gonna be a lot of pressure on him
with the, you know,
the contingency that has looked past any of Minchus
very reasonable flaws to point out
and have turned him into some sort of a demigod.
And I like the kid, but people want Nick Foles to fail.
I think Nick is gonna have a nice return
and you're gonna feel good about him if you're a Jags fan,
but it's a tough matchup because Jacobi's coming back,
Jacobi's been really good at home.
Colts have won a lot of close games.
Depth and kicking have,
have been issues for them lately,
but the key here is,
who knows who better,
Frank Reich or Nick Foles.
Of course they were together in Philly.
So that's the Slate Sunday
that's most interesting to me.
I think we continue on another trend
of really entertaining football this weekend.
I mean, it is,
we are well into November now.
Texans have a tough one in Baltimore.
That AFC South really could be up for grabs
with that Colts Jags games.
Good catch.
That's not the smallest game this weekend.
And I like the Ravens there.
I think, you know, as you talk to people around the league
and some of the people in gambling circles,
they're like, oh, I'm leaning in Houston.
I like the Ravens, man.
Trust your eyes on this one.
Regardless, it's Lamar and Deshawn.
It's going to be entertaining.
It's going to be epic.
Yep.
It's going to be epic.
So be sure to get some popcorn for that one.
We're going to go to Mailbag, aren't we?
I want to talk some baseball first.
I think we have somebody.
Oh, we do.
You have baseball.
In studio.
We have somebody in studio.
We also have a trash can and we'll get to why that's so important for this segment.
But we'll be welcoming in, Wookiee, my baseball coach, if you don't remember him from a few shows
ago.
Our first repeat guest.
Yep.
Friend of the program.
Okay.
So I've had enough football.
You know what my primary job is?
Baseball watcher.
In the media.
It's being a baseball watcher.
And for anybody who's been with us since the genesis of this show, they know Coach Wookie,
my high school coach, who's here to rate my baseball takes and to help me get it right.
Absolutely.
And since I became a baseball fan mid-world series this year after my 11-year hiatus, I got to say,
this league, it's pretty fun.
It's been really fun lately.
There's a lot going on.
I feel like we've got some good stuff to talk about it.
So thank you for joining us.
The Astros, total frauds?
This is not a good look for them at all.
This is a very bad look.
Sign stealing's always been part of the game,
but as long as it's done with your eyes.
And what they've done here is way over the line
with how they've gone about doing this.
It's not just the eyes, they got a little handsy.
you know um so the world's been kind of onto him for a while now um there was a there was some
2017 scuttle butt there was some 2018 scuttle butt um and then in between 2018 and
2019 major league baseball actually put pretty firm rules in place about uh cameras in house cameras
between foul poles and the live feed delays in between dugouts and when you see this unfold in
2019, you start to think that Major League Baseball was on to him in a big, big way.
I don't like the way I started this thing.
I would like to go back and just tee it right up to you so you have the video ahead of this.
Okay, perfect.
Yeah, that's better.
Okay.
Full restart.
Full restart.
That'll be the only one today.
I got to remind that you're back there, too, which is another thing.
I don't know if you do.
Yeah, well, okay, you ready?
So when I have the baseball in my hands, that means, that means.
that the baseball watcher is out.
He's out.
He's out here.
And he is firing off baseball takes.
And anybody that's been with us since the genesis of this show knows Coach Wookie, my high school coach,
former Virginia baseball stud.
Thank you for that.
Current local dad, fellow local dad.
He joins me every now and again to rate my baseball takes and to help me get it right.
When I got the baseball on my hand, look out.
Also, we sent Macon to the dugout.
He's back there.
He's got a trash can.
I don't know what he's doing with it.
Yeah, I think he's going to keep us honest with that trash can.
Or at least give us a heads up.
Mike, what's you doing with the trash can?
I'm tipping bad takes.
I'm tipping when the segment should wrap up.
You just stay tuned.
Okay, well, according to Doolittle, who we had on recently,
you can't drop deuses in the dugout.
You have to go to the bullpen.
So don't get any ideas back there.
I know you might be taking a break from the show.
go off on your own and do your business,
but not in the dugout, please.
When you look at this,
it's hard for me to understand as somebody,
it seems like it's more technology
and there's a fine line with sign ceiling.
Let's roll the video because...
So what's going on here?
So the accusation here is that one bang is a slider
and he takes it.
Do you like taking sliders?
I mean, there's two bangs.
You hear the two bangs, and here comes the change up.
You know, hitting's about balance.
But there's no bangs on a fastball.
No bangs on a fastball.
And there's been a lot of good material on social media,
just showing video after video after video of one bang slider
or curveball, two banks change up, no bang slides.
Who is this guy, John Boy?
Yeah.
Is that how I say his name?
Yeah.
What's his deal?
He's been going through the video.
He found an enrolled as Chapman video.
He's been finding all kinds of video.
with whistles and bangs all the way back from 2017.
And he's just lightened Twitter up with it.
So for the people listening out there in the sport of baseball,
which is ripe with unwritten rules,
one of the unwritten rules is generally you don't use technology
to steal signs.
And there's a case being made that seems to be accepted fact now
that they are using technology.
The way they were signing pitches.
Yeah.
So stealing signs has always been a game within a game,
as long as it's done with your eyes.
Right.
it's always been fair game
that's why
that's why coaches have like a blocker between them
and the third base dugout when they do stuff
that's why catchers have multiple signs
when there's a runner on second base
it's always been part of the game
using technology is a major red line
that you don't cross
and the Houston Astros here
put a camera in center field
feeding a live video delay
to someone in the dugout
who would bang a trash candle
let the hitters know
how does that sound when you bang a trash
That's how it sounds on the video.
It does.
I mean, as I was going through it last night,
and I was watching these videos for the first time all week,
because I've been a little bit behind,
because I primarily talk about football on this show,
and sex robots.
Yes.
Which you liked.
My favorite part of that take was Macon's face.
I think that we...
So anyways, you know, as I'm going through it this week
and I'm watching last night, it was almost eerie.
It's like,
Yo, this is some eerie shit.
Like, the history of baseball could have changed.
I mean, when you talk about legacies and World Series and like,
it's everybody, if they were focused in on it, could hear it.
Anybody could have heard it.
Right.
And if you think about what they've done here,
it's especially bad because Major League Baseball made rules
before going into this season about having cameras,
in-house cameras between the foul poles.
and video feed delays.
So what they did here is even worse
because Major League Baseball was kind of on to him.
Yes, it's like they couldn't quit it.
They had to do one more heist, and they got caught.
Right, and some people will say,
hey, look, the 2016 Red Sox were like...
What does that mean?
I think he's got me for...
It's 2017 Red Sox.
2017, Red Sox had an Apple Watch kind of scandal.
Big Sox fan here.
by the way over in the dugout.
That night they won that World Series for the first time
and a long time we partied.
What was it?
On campus.
That was what year?
Khan on grounds.
That would have been 04.
Of course.
O3, you shaving creamed my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the year
1918.
Oh, I did that?
The socks had won the world series.
I did that.
That was funny.
I would have, listen.
I'm not on camera, though.
So y'all continue.
Objectively, I thought that was a funny prank.
But he's a big Sox fan.
So the socks.
They had an Apple Watch issue where they were going from a trainer to a coach to a runner.
And that was, you know, that got, that was a two-week scheme, right?
It got a lot of attention, a lot of bad press.
It was even hard to execute, right?
That's a lot of back and forth passing to get to a hitter.
This one is egregious.
It's way beyond the line.
Right.
Live video, like live video, banging a trash can.
It's bad.
As a hitter, your goal is to stay on balance when you're facing a pitcher.
That's why pitchers change speeds.
If you know when an off-speed pitch is coming or when a fastball is coming,
and you're on balance, that gives you a significant, tremendous advantage.
And the numbers, they back it up.
Right here, McGrain sent me a couple, oh, shit, we'll bleep his name out.
He's just Wookie.
Coach Wookie sent me, he sent me some statistics that were really interesting.
It's people listening.
That's Altuvae, Karea.
Is that how I say his name in McCann?
So it's hard to look at this with the sign ceiling scandal
and not come away thinking that something's up here, right?
You got hitters hitting two, 300 points better at home during the 2017 World Series.
I think this scandal is going to call a lot into question.
It's going to call in the World Series, both 2017.
I mean, 2019, the Nationals won the World Series.
But if you're following, the Nationals had five sets of signs going into,
to the World Series, where as soon as they thought
that they might be on to them again,
they would change to the second set of signs,
which was highly complex.
I mean, think about the preparation.
You know, you had Doolittle on your show.
Think about it.
He's out there trying to get a job done
in a high stress environment.
And the whole time he's thinking,
okay, they might be on to sign, you know,
our sign scheme one.
Yeah, it's not just perform.
Let's go to sign three.
Place the ball.
And let's make sure the catcher and the pitcher
are lined up because, you know,
when you cross up a catcher with a 90-something mile
fastball. That ball could hit the backstop, runners advance. Yeah, it's, I mean, that that's a scary
prospect. And you're saying, and maybe I'm behind on this, that they were able to execute this at home.
I mean, that, that's the, the Astros had this at home. So why did the Nats play so well on the
road? Well, so, you know, I think people, so there's people I know that are saying the world series,
their 2017 World Series against the Dodgers should be taken away. And there are people saying,
you know, well, you know, how, and then they can't quite figure it out. I think the national
I think Major League Baseball knew that the Astros were up to something.
And I think all the teams knew.
And so that's why the Nationals went with five sets of signs.
Right.
And when they go with five sets of signs, look, we used to steal signs in high school.
Yes, we did.
And we did it with our eyes.
We did it the right way.
Yeah.
But you didn't steal any fucking signs for me when there was a curveball coming.
No.
Did you?
No, I didn't.
So you failed me.
I could have been playing, you know, Major League Baseball.
At least I decided.
I'm sorry.
No.
But it's,
with,
how do I describe it?
With the signs,
I totally lost my train of thought.
Basically,
I was asking how the Nash,
you want to pound the trash can on that one.
That's a bad take.
Did you play football for a living?
I might have.
You can't keep your thoughts straight.
It's bad when I have to steer you back on course.
Anyways,
the course was that the Nats were winning in Houston.
So how does that...
Right.
So they had five sets of signs.
And as a hitter,
you don't want someone banging.
a trash can if they're 70% correct.
Yes, no.
Right, you want it to be 100%.
So, you know, five sets of signs
makes it hard to feel like you're 100%.
That probably was enough
for them to stop banging trash cans or whistling.
So in football, I mean, we, like,
when I was thinking about what it,
if there's any parallel,
and the closest thing would be SpyGate,
but even SpyGate, you know, as I understand it,
you know the play possibly.
You still, you know.
So to me, this,
is far and away more advantageous.
That's the way I look at it, not knowing about baseball.
You know the pitch before it comes.
Yes.
That's like, you know, in football, even if you knew the play,
there are 11 people that have to execute.
There's lots of different variables.
It's one person throwing a ball to the hitter.
To me, it's the biggest advantage you can get in sports
by knowing what's coming.
When we'd have practice in football and if it's inside run,
I love the period, because I knew power was coming,
counter was coming.
You know, there's a few things that could happen there.
It does make it easier, but it's still hard to stop people.
It's very physical.
And you know, it's like, okay, it's third down,
as long as we have the right personnel on the field,
we've got a shot.
Yes.
You know, but this baseball thing,
it just seems, make, what do you think is worse?
SpyGate or AstroGate.
AstroGate.
I agree.
I agree.
So another thing we used to do was in pass rush period,
which was one-on-one pass rushes between D-Lyman and O-Lyman.
It was like, nobody wanted to do it.
It's always slanted to the O-Lyman.
And offensive line coaches very counts.
And by week 10 in the season, my legs are shot.
I don't want to be evaluated going full speed on a Thursday.
If I get blocked by a practice squad guy,
they're going to think he's falling off.
Load me up with Tord all Sunday, I'm good.
So what we used to do, what we used to do was I'd get like a D-Lyman
to stand in front of the O-Line coach who's doing the signal on the snap count.
He'd hold a fist for first sound, one for, for on one, two for on two, of course.
And you can't see that because he's standing behind you.
So like Brandon Graham or some guy, and I'm the only guy that used to cheat like this in
one-on-one pass for us, but so I'm not outing some operation that's going on, but I used to ask for
like, here we go, Chris, if it's on first sound.
Right.
You know, like that sort of thing.
But you don't do that.
Like, there's just no parallel in football to this.
So I was trying, like the here we go, Chris.
in the game within the game of stealing signs
stuff like that you realize midgame
like a stab I remember Casey Lambert was pitching
he had a great curveball
Lambert getting love on the pod
and somebody like stayed back on his
Casey was like a saves leader at UVA
stayed back on his curveball like drove it into a gap
and before he had thrown that pitch someone was like
here we go Michael yeah and I was like oh hell
and so it's like time you go out and you switch the signs up
so there are ways that you can catch it in game
when people have it.
Like another one is runners on second base.
Well,
I want to apologize to Jeff Stoutland,
who I was stealing his,
his,
and so some of the guys are like,
why is he bull rushing right now?
I'm like,
because I'm tired of this fucking drill
and I have the snap count.
I'm not like.
So, you know,
I'm trying to think of other baseball things.
Like runners on second base,
you know,
hands closed,
is fastball,
hands open,
is curveball.
There's ways that like,
you know,
the stealing the signs,
figuring out when the other team has the signs.
And I was trying to think,
you know,
Spygate,
You know, like, pitchers tip pitches.
You know, they get a grip.
They do something.
Maybe offensive linemen tip their hands.
All of this is like the advantage within the game of being a good player and paying attention.
Right.
And what the Astros did here was take all that away by using a live video.
Speaking of taking it away, should they be taking away the Astros' last championship, in your opinion?
And who did they beat?
The Dodgers.
The Dodgers.
Have the Dodgers won a World Series in a while?
Gosh, I don't know.
Would you even want a ring?
I don't know if you feel.
Because to me, I wouldn't even want the ring.
I'd just be like, that was a completely wasted year.
And by the way, 32 MLB teams times 162 games, that's a lot done for not in one year.
Plus the postseason.
Like, insane how much wasted time there is.
I don't know.
And I'm glad I'm not, you know, Commissioner Manfred.
I think the penalty that's going to come down is going to be very significant.
Yeah.
Draft picks, fines, front office.
But what about the players?
Or players are baseball?
players like the mafia because no that's what i'm wondering like how many people on that team anybody everybody
has to know on that team yeah and that means the guys you're sending down guys that are getting traded
eventually like is there that's how it came out snitch on anybody that's how it came out is the guy who
fears or fires yeah the pitcher left and said you know enough's enough they crossed the line
that's so risky though imagine like somebody having your dirty secret and then you cut them yeah
I'm surprised it didn't come out sooner.
Exactly.
And listen, I party with some Houston guys at the Espies, man.
Cool dudes.
Keikl who left and Bregman, who I love.
But I'm like, did you all know that the whole time?
We were popping bottles and you were stealing signs the whole time.
I feel so betrayed.
So I think that it's everything becomes into question.
Pitchers are going to question their ERA.
When they were pitching at home, you know,
pitching against the Astros when they were home.
People are going to question the Astros hitting batting average.
I mean, you're talking about really good players the Astros have,
but now when you see like that stat from the World Series,
you start to wonder like, are they that good?
Because if I'm a player and I'm against it,
I know that there's like you don't speak up necessarily
because chances are a few people on the team
where like this is Bush League or no?
Well, so I don't know.
I'm sure, yeah, obviously Fires thought it was Bush League
because when he left, he spoke up.
But, you know, I think pitchers,
pitchers are in an interesting spot.
They don't want to say, I think they're stealing my signs.
Or, right, because they don't want to look soft.
They don't want to look crazy.
They don't want to look like a little bitch.
Right.
Or like, oh, you're just saying that because you're not very good.
Yeah, I always say if you, yeah.
So pitches are in an interesting spot because I think they knew.
Obviously, the Nationals knew something was up.
Yeah.
And so I'm glad that it finally came out in this way because it validates, you know,
a lot of the rumor that we've been here.
Without the Nats having to be like, hey.
Right.
Which, fuck.
I mean, I might be like, hey, here's a hot take.
it's actually worse than the 1918 black socks.
What is the, what's the issue here?
1919.
I thought he was going to disagree.
It wasn't about the take.
Whatever, but what I'm saying is the black socks fuck themselves over.
This is fucking other people over.
Yeah, a lot of teams.
And you know what?
Like, I know what we talked about earlier with Miles Garrett
and people are talking about, you know,
he needs to be arrested and it's assault and all that.
This is some white collar shit here.
It is.
You took a lot of people's money in time.
You did.
You took, you took, you took, you took, bettors money.
I mean, like, MLB gambling.
Where do you stop when you start digging into the numbers?
Like wins, losses, batting average, ERA, betting,
the butterfly effect, man, like legacies.
Yes.
Clayton Kershaw's legacy.
Yes.
Is that matter?
Like, you know, if Clayton Kershaw, if they went.
It's too hard to unwind because you can't stop thinking about all the advantages that they had.
Was it, you know, five extra pitches on.
and Kershaw made him come out in the eighth
instead of the ninth or, you know,
a two-out double that scored the winning run
and you start going, you could go back through all those games.
I'm going to start blaming all my shortcomings
on the Astro's sealing signs.
Because this affects everything from here on out.
I don't need, like,
my friendship with Bregman and Kichel, my boys,
because we partied that one night, I don't know.
I don't know how to feel anymore.
You know, it's just, I feel weird.
This whole thing makes me feel weird.
Did they, were they stealing some kind of sign from you?
They might have, they didn't steal my credit card information or anything.
I think they at least pitched in on the, on the bottle service.
But in all seriousness, good, good dudes, which is why to me, like, I can't reckon with this thing because there's no football parallel in football history.
You know, Spy Gates is closest thing.
We all think this is worse.
And I don't know how to, I don't know how to judge somebody's character in baseball.
So I don't know how to feel about it.
Well, I think.
I feel like it's wrong.
I don't know how to feel about it on a personal level.
Do I think these guys are bad guys now?
No.
No, but organizationally, I think the reason this is getting a lot of attention is they had their drama in the World Series, kind of front office drama.
Then they had locker room drama.
And then they've had this rumor of sign stealing that's been going on for a while.
And if you go all the way back to 2015, to me, a lot of this, like, Astros kind of rumor stuff started when you had the Cardinals and the Astros and that front office.
logging into each other's scouting report systems.
Cyber terrorism.
Identity fraud or whatever they call it.
It kind of starts from there.
I think organizationally there's been a bit of a cloud over them for a while.
And so that makes all of this a lot worse.
Oh, man.
Feel bad for all the Houston Astros fans right now because they don't deserve this.
Yeah.
Do you think they deserve this?
You know, I think there's probably a lot of teams out there that are pushing.
the limits of sign stealing.
So this is the last we see of it
before I let you go?
Is this the last?
So do you think that now that it's cracked down on,
we're not like this is enough,
these are enough warnings.
The block is hot.
So I think there's been a lot going on for a long time.
That pushes the limits,
you know, beyond just the eyes in the real game.
I think that because there was the Apple Watch thing,
because there was the rumor of this in 2018,
and they had some investigation
kind of cleared everybody,
but it was like you're warned,
made the rules. I think Manfred's going to come down hard and make a statement with this
so that the future of sign stealing using video equipment makes it really, really scary for a team
to do. So I think if there is that kind of stuff going on, I think the penalty that's going to come
from Major League Baseball is so harsh that it's going to scare a lot of teams from continuing to do it.
Well, I certainly hope so because this is a game I've long enjoyed watching.
And there's no place for that in our game. It affects the integrity of the game. It does.
And it is a beautiful game.
America's pastime, if you haven't heard.
Thanks for joining me, Coach Wookiee.
Thanks for having me.
And we'll have you back the next time
there's some big baseball news that pops off.
And you know with this league, it always does.
Always.
So we got Making out of the dugout, right?
That's where you were in the dugout?
That's right.
Yes, that's right.
Yeah, you left your trash can.
We've had enough baseball for one day
because it is still foosball season,
although that's my passion now.
making also not sporting the laptop on the lap
afraid of the damage is doing to the swimmers
I let you in on the fact that it could be harmful
no I'm not not afraid of that open up your laptop
I'm not afraid of that this is just a fun new segment that we're doing
and I'm going with a different look
question question
can I read the first question
I'll read the first question
this is from Chris
same name as me
do you think that putting a laptop on your lap
kills your sperm
I absolutely think it does
and Macon should probably not do that anymore
I think any sort of heat isn't great
so you should live in colder climates
if you want to procreate
just have a good laptop fan
which I have yeah I don't think that's doing it
you know funny story one guy used to tell me that the cold tub
we you know cold bass in the NFL you see them all the time
outside in camp but guys do it like into the winter
I had a teammate tell me
you better stay out of that cold tub
what do you mean he goes
it's going to make your sperm more potent.
I said, how do you mean?
He goes, well, I go, is this a theory
or is this something that you wholeheartedly believe?
He said, well, I had a teammate once,
cold tub every day, six kids.
Wow.
What is it, causation or?
Correlation.
Come on.
Laptops, though, do kill your sperm.
Thanks for that question, Chris and Charlottesville.
Second question, I'll give that one to you.
Abby asks.
What are your thoughts on ghosts and Bigfoot?
I believe in ghosts.
I believe in Bigfoot.
They're all real.
I'm not like William Hayes.
I'm a big fan of cryptozoology,
which is the study of animals that may or may not exist from what I understand.
Like Chupacabra, which is the plural.
I don't think it's Chupacra.
It's Chupacra, which is the blood-sucking dog down in Central America that kills livestock.
I believe in Bigfoot.
I believe in Megalodons.
I once did a college project on Megalodons.
One of my highest grades I ever got in school was that project.
I'm shocked that Virginia allowed me to do a project on megalodons.
I also do believe in ghosts.
I certainly do.
I'm not sure what the rules are.
Can they actually hurt you?
Do you think they can hurt you?
No.
But they're still, they're invisible.
Yes.
So you're never, I'm never worried about like walking around the corner in the kitchen at night
to get a glass of water and seeing a ghost.
and seeing a ghost.
I don't know.
I don't have many thoughts.
Abby's asking you this question.
Yeah, but you're on the pod.
So yeah, I believe in ghosts.
I believe in Bigfoot.
William Hayes used to believe in.
Mermaids, but did not believe in dinosaurs.
And his theory for mermaids was,
have you seen that motherfucking ocean?
Like Samuel Ljaxon.
Have you seen that motherfucking ocean,
all that motherfucking water?
You don't think there's one goddamn,
uh, half fish, half woman swimming around
out there. It's pretty sound logic. If you ask me, we'll have to have them on the show next.
Daniel asks, what is your least favorite commercial? I mean, the Pepsi commercial with the
Jenner Girl was a pretty big fail. I also don't like Geico commercials. Those are generally,
I'm not a fan of the non-sequitur stuff. I mean, every one of those commercials is like,
okay, how does I have to do anything? Do you have one? No. Okay. Game Tim, 9980164,
one asks, what would be your role in a bank robbery? Getaway car for sure. I used to have a
1996 Impala, SS, bought it on eBay, Burgundy. I got really infatuated with movie drive,
had the soundtrack, used to play it on my phone because there was no CD player. I had the car
for a grand total of three days. I wanted to get driving gloves and all. My wife Meg bought me
the Scorpion jacket. For those who haven't heard the story, I actually would wear the scorpion
Jack and drive my Impala for the duration of that Impala's lifespan in my household, which was
three days because I totaled it getting on the on ramp, crashed into a concrete divider, thinking
I was Ryan Gosling and drive. So I would definitely, long story short, be the guy outside.
I also don't like things sneaking up behind me. And with a mask on that obscures my periphery
even more. Not a fan of like folks making moves at my six. You know what I'm saying?
Don't know if I have the balls for that. I'd be the last guy back out of the bank saying I'm really
sorry we had to do this. So sorry. And y'all, y'all take care.
Fell on some hard times. Need this 15K. Definitely worth the risk. Right. Surely it's worth the
risk. Right. Have a great day. Have a good. Take care. Patrick Hutton asks,
what is the most overrated part of being a pro and the most underrated part of being a pro
oh overrated part is being quote unquote famous i don't think of myself is famous but some
people have told me that there's some degree of fame that you're famous yeah okay
don't like that at top i really don't like that it's nice because when you're famous you can
put out a pod that's pretty mediocre but people still listen shout out to everybody listening to this
pod. The most underrated part, getting hookups to different music shows. I've gotten to go
backstage some places and meet some people that I definitely wouldn't have been able to meet
if I wasn't a pro athlete. So that shit's pretty cool. Ryan and Maryland asks, what is your best
locker room prank? Best locker room prank for me personally was we had to leave for a two-day trip
to go play Seahawks a few years back when I was with the Rams. Long story short, the D.Bs used
throw ice into the D-Line room, just open the door,
chuck ice at us and run away like fucking children.
The issue with that is we are actually the children
in an NFL building.
The D-Linmen are the ones with the least maturity
and the most money.
And we are very competitive.
So as we're getting ready to leave,
I called a carpenter and I called a tow truck company.
I had a contact at both places.
St. Louis, I know people.
I said, can you guys get here after we pull off in the bus?
So we leave on a Friday.
Right before we leave,
I grab all the keys out of the DB's lockers.
I put them in my locker.
I see the guys shuffle out to the bus.
I give them the go ahead.
Now, what's going to happen is the carpenter
is going to build a bunch of houses
out in this field in front of Rams Park.
Now, it's the dead of winter.
It's actually Christmas time,
and we're going to be gone until Sunday night.
So they have plenty of time to build these houses.
that would later be called DBVille.
They're like actual little,
I don't know, modular homes,
not high quality construction,
no doors, no windows,
but we painted them
as if they had doors and windows,
we also put mailboxes in front of them.
Now what's going in the houses, you might ask?
Well, the first thing that needs to happen
is the tow truck company
needs to go tow their cars out into that field,
which is right off the off-ramp
on Highway 70,
and in front of a gas station.
The car's get in the field,
the carpenter comes by,
pops these modular homes down around their cars.
We put Christmas lights, mailboxes,
with the DB's numbers on them,
and we call it DBVille.
The newest development in Earth City, Missouri.
You can grab your brochure in the locker room.
And the payoff, you get back.
The payoff is you get back Sunday night,
and the bus is at one in the morning around the corner.
after that West Coast swing.
And a few people knew at this point.
Jeff Fisher knew,
Coach Mack knew, a bunch of players knew.
The defense loved it.
And all you could do was laugh.
I mean, the bus, as we rolled around the corner,
just waiting to confirm if we actually built houses
with no doors around the defensive backs cars,
if that really happened, we round the corner
and there's audible laughter, cheering,
there's disbelief.
It's 20 degrees.
These dudes are out there at one in the morning,
taking pictures in front of D.B.Ville.
They had to come in with chainsaws the next day
to get the cars out.
That was my question.
Yeah, the cars were not coming out without help.
So I also saw Cortland Finnegan take all the linebackers cars
on a car carrier, drive it up the hill,
place it up this hill that was over a river
and a ravine outside our facility.
We could see them during practice,
so guys are freaking out,
how are we going to get my cars back?
This is not funny.
We leave, it's a Friday, everybody's freaking out.
They're like, I gotta go pick my kids up.
I got a company coming in.
Cortland's like, I got you guys, just wait outside.
Your transportation will be taken care of.
Next thing you know, I hear,
Ch, city bus.
He had a city bus come and pick up all the linebackers,
and there were some unhappy campers.
Another thing we did was,
and this could be a whole segment, but fuck,
me and William Hayes grabbed James Laronitis's nice new Audi SUV.
We pulled it into the indoor facility.
We went to a FedEx store to fill it with packing peanuts
and we're going to wrap it in Saran Wrap in the middle of the indoor.
But while we were there, we heard some crickets chirping.
So we proceeded to barter tickets for crickets
with the dude at the bait shop
who was actually coincidentally arriving that day
to pick up his cricket cash.
And we got 10,000 crickets.
We set them loose in the car, filled it with packing peanuts
and covered it with saran wrap.
and we almost got away with it.
But the CCTV quality,
like black and white security camera,
has a sped-up version of me and William doing our deed.
I'll try to pull that and bring it on the next show.
That'd be great.
Another collateral issue there was that the crickets died.
They crawled into vents and died.
And when crickets die,
they smell like a rotting corpse.
Wouldn't know what that smells like,
but that's how James Laronitis
his Audi smelled
and he actually had to sell the SUV
might have to have James on.
We need to have James on
and I also want to note
that I gave him a ride home that night
and helped him clean up his truck
and the entire time he's like
who the fuck would do this?
I was like, I know man.
Terrible.
And I gave him a ride home
with all the clothes I pulled out of his truck
hanging on the hanger behind him.
I didn't even realize it.
The whole drive to the hotel that day
in training camp. I'm looking over at him like, please don't look behind you because you're
going to see your suit. You're going to see your buttoned out. You're going to see your t-shirt.
It wasn't me, bro. I was like, you know, I dropped him off. I was like, man, it was just, what a long
day, bro. That's fucked up. We'll get him back. But he's a real Christian. He did not even,
he just prayed for me, I think. Yeah. Not a lot of those walking around anymore. So
congrats to James for actually turning the other cheek. This is a good one I want to read. Do you
walk around your house in shoes or take... Oh, I'm the asker. Okay, go ahead. Thanks, I'll hang up and listen.
Asks, do you walk around your house in shoes or take them off as soon as you get inside?
I'm not a big fan of making people take off their shoes in the house. You seem like a guy that
would make people take off their shoes. Make no, do I? Yes. Gotcha. And then people sort of get the picture.
I hear that in Canada, that's a big thing. You don't walk in because of the snow customarily with
with your with your with your with your tundra boots on uh windd wind yeah asks yeah the best performance
by band you've seen live uh that's gonna be my morning jacket red rocks recency bias a little bit i
saw them this summer i actually brought my folks to the second night and uh you know picture howie
longs flat top illuminated by strobing lights and just there's clouds of godness
knows what floating around.
I had to go check on my parents to make sure they weren't getting a contact high from being
around all these damn hippies, myself included at Red Rocks.
They sat on the other end of the bowl.
And by the way, if you ever get a chance to see a show at Red Rocks, it is a religious
experience.
And that is not hyperbole.
And MMJ, shout out to my boys, especially Pat Hallahan, drummer MMJ, put on an epic
performance, especially night two.
I mean, they played for three hours each night,
and they do it every time they go to Red Rocks.
When DE asks if something,
this is a second question by this person,
if something happened to you,
i.e. if you became deceased.
Do you mean if I died?
Just say it, bro.
Would you rather your wife, Megan,
remarry a human or a sex robot?
Oh, man, definitely going to have to be a human.
don't think
not really with the digosexual
thing
is it fucked up to
to ask that my wife
just I mean I'm not the best looking
I'm like probably a seven and a half
and I've said this before
I'm a seven and a half but I'm tall and rich
so that gets inflated a little bit
that bought me a GQ appearance
right we can maybe put that in
in post but I would hope
that if I become deceased
for some reason
that she would opt for somebody
who would non-threatening
in the looks department
so that when I'm a ghost
I'm not like
Ryan Reynolds
the fuck now I'm gonna haunt the shit out of this house
yeah okay I'm getting Ryan Reynolds up out of here
no questioner here
asks weirdest person you've been mistaken for
just say fast bender
just say fast bender
an adult let's get it out of the way
fast bender
I definitely get mistaken
for him all the time.
Weirdest person you've tried to be a question I don't fully understand.
I don't get it either, maybe a pro football player.
Where should people send their questions?
People should send their questions to myself at Joel 9-1 or Makin Gunter.
Good luck.
Or chalk media.
Hit us all up.
Preferably chalk.
We're trying to grow that enterprise, the presence on Twitter.
So I'm not even going to be tacky, just follow chalk.
follow chalk, engage with chalk, send your mailbag questions in.
And this is the first ever mailbag segment in the history of podcast.
So this is an historic moment.
Yeah, innovative.
Let's talk to Stanford Steve.
Let's talk about it.
So we're going to skip college fund this week.
I mean, like informally, college has been a relatively predictable prospect for Whalen the last couple weeks.
We've broken even most weekends.
So that's good.
I'm bringing in somebody who looks well-rested this week in Stanford Steve.
Steve, you may get some REM sleep?
What's up, dog?
I actually got some sleep last night.
Just got off the plane here.
I'm in Oxford, Mississippi, ready for the Grove.
Number one's in town, LSU tomorrow.
It's about to get on this weekend here at the Grove.
First time here.
Can't wait.
Itinerary set.
Let's go.
As advertised?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I mean, a quick stroll through campus.
they're not messing around here.
It's incredible.
I heard it is a cool place.
Let's start with Saturday slate here.
What's your most confident pick Saturday?
I love Louisville.
Last week we gave them out.
They got smoked at Miami.
They actually outgained Miami,
but they gave up 52 points.
Turnovers were terrible.
This is more about NC State who they're playing.
NC State's giving up 144 points in their last three games.
Louisville's still playing for a bowl game.
NC State is not.
Louisville is 4-0 against the spread
on the road against losing teams.
So they beat bad teams.
NC state's a bad team.
I like the Cardinals on the road here.
I could ride the roller coaster with the Cardinals again.
Last week I rode the roller coaster.
And you mentioned it.
As I'm watching that,
I'm like, there's no fucking way they're out gaining them.
I mean, it just didn't feel that.
It was insane.
I'm not real confident in any of my college picks this weekend,
but I do, I'm going to,
I'm going to take,
making,
you got a PAC 12 special,
you want to explain yourself?
My unbeaten
pack 12 lock of the week
has been canceled.
Thank you, Steve,
your Stanford Cardinal,
lost in the altitude.
I'm going to go SEC lock of the week.
Also unbeaten.
Bama, let's lay the points.
I don't care who the quarterback is.
18 to get it done
against Mississippi State.
All right, well,
he's probably going to win that bet,
and it's not going to reflect on my score,
but for the record,
he's been doing pretty good.
I'm going to go in the pack 12 lock of the week, Cal getting six and a half points at USC.
All right.
Shit gets weird, man.
When USC plays Cal, especially in berserkly, spent plenty of nights in that crazy-ass town.
So that is, that's an interesting pick.
Van Pelt gave them out on winners.
So you and Van Pelt, buddies.
I feel good about that.
The dirty golden bears.
If you're rubbing off on him and we have the same picks, that's good.
He's not doing well, just so you know.
Fuck. How about your second most confident pick?
Speaking of Stanford, I'm going against them here.
They're up in Pullman against Washington State.
They don't have their best corner who I think is the best corner in all of college football, Paulson and Dibeau.
He's going to be a top 10 pick.
He's out this week.
Their safety senior captain, Malik Antoine, is out also.
He makes all the calls in the secondary.
You know Wazoo.
They throw the ball all over the yard.
You need as many secondary guys as you can have.
Stanford not really deep in the old secondary.
So I think they're going to have a lot of issues.
They only scored 13 points against the worst defense in the conference in Colorado last week.
So I don't think they're going to score much, even though they got Davis Mills starting
at quarterback, who I like is the quarterback of the future.
But I think Wazoo doesn't have problems scoring.
I'll lay the 10 and a half with Wazoo and up in Pullman.
Yeah.
So I got Georgia Tech, another 6.5.
point dog and making
or six and a half don't say six point five
six and a half whatever square
whatever motherfuckers I'm
my my my balance doesn't look real square
now does it huh I've been I've been
yeah but the soles on those shoes do
well I've been walking around places like
Oxford late at night
so I mean
I think these streets
these boots have been like
I've covered about 20 miles on the downtown
mall in Charlottesville
I mean and that's not the cleanest
I mean, it's pristine to the eye,
but I wouldn't eat off the walking mall
down here in Charlottesville.
And this rug has seen better days.
This rug has seen better days.
Enough about my boots.
Enough about my boots.
Let's talk about the jackets,
getting six and a half points
at home against Tech.
I think this is one of those games
that Tech looks kind of flat.
Which Tech?
Virginia Tech.
Okay, got it.
The Hokies are going to struggle here
and Macon likes the pick as well.
He says that Georgia Tech is, what was the adjective?
Exceedingly competent.
Yep.
So they've just played Pitt close.
They've played Virginia close.
The Hokies are looking ahead to Pitt and Virginia, coincidentally.
Georgia Tech at home.
Trap game for them because they are looking ahead to learn.
No, this is all bullshit.
You guys are just hoping that Virginia Tech doesn't play well.
This is really easy.
You're sick of seeing them play well for a couple weeks.
So you're going to feel good about taking a horrible team in Georgia Tech against Virginia Tech.
I know what you guys are doing.
Sir, this is a Wendy's.
We have way more integrity.
As the kids say.
What's your third most confident pick on Saturday?
Bama.
Bama.
I don't care if two of plays.
Listen, Sabin, you know, a couple of years ago,
backed into the playoff and they won it
when they lost the Iron Bowl to Auburn.
And they didn't have any game.
They didn't have any style points to get.
This year, he still has some style points to get.
He could obviously, or I should say,
he possibly could be eliminated from the,
playoff if they don't win in convincing fashion this week so if two plays if the other guy plays
he's going to put it on them they have the best receivers in the country you saw it last week
mississippi state is not capable of scoring or stopping Alabama lay the 18 i think alabama
sends a huge message of 50 burger at least for the tide lay the points do you always rip off
your content or is anything original that comes out of your out of your mouth that's all mine bro
my research.
Okay.
I heard it somewhere else.
I heard it somewhere else on this show.
Is the thing.
Oh, you did.
Yeah.
He wasn't listening to you.
You saw,
no,
I was listening.
You saw my picks
and you wanted to give it first.
I know,
I know the deal.
For the record,
he didn't.
Great minds think alike.
Yeah.
Because I'm looking at
different picks for the record.
Maybe a lot tech
that you had another time.
Yeah,
that's weird.
It said here on that,
you also like Marshall for the record.
Oh, right.
Marshall.
I have Marshall.
And I had Marshall,
before the suspensions were announced.
Oh, okay. Well, my third,
my third most confident pick, and I'm going to be
very interested to see, there's going to be a polarizing
one. A lot of points.
13 and a half is what Michigan's giving
against Sparty. I like Michigan to cover.
If there's ever going to be a time,
they're going to put one on Sparty, it's right here.
They could really do some damage
to that Sparty program. So
it feels like a public pick, though.
It does, but my last public pick
went pretty well. The Seahawks getting
six points on Monday night.
It took a while to get a winner, huh?
You were, you are, that was a long time coming for you last week.
No, that's not true.
Let's not talk about Louisville.
I mean, I was all on Louisville because of our boy here.
Let's get to the NFL, okay?
Yeah.
I'll start it off.
I'll start it off.
My most confident pick at this point,
I'm going to have to go chiefs and buy the half point down in Mexico City against the Chargers.
I think last week is a matchup thing that people reactive to.
The Titans have kind of owned them as of late.
And it wasn't a great matchup.
And I think they rebound this week.
Philip Rivers talked about he's thrown a lot of picks in the last few games.
I think 11 in the last five games against the Chargers or against the Chiefs.
And last year, the Chiefs took an L late in the year.
That snapped a nine game winning streak for the Chief.
So I think it's back to business as usual.
Really bitter about this game because last year, this game,
the Monday night game in Mexico, I was supposed to go to and it got canceled.
And they wouldn't let me travel.
really wanted to go.
Their quality.
They were just going to let me go around the places and try and bet on the game.
It would be awesome.
I wonder what a gambling house looks like in...
Exactly.
I was going to try and find them all.
I didn't know if I was guaranteed to come back from the trip.
Not advisable.
Yeah.
So what's your lock on Sunday?
It was pretty good.
I went 500 last week.
I'll take that in the NFL because I suck at NFL.
And I took all the teams that should have be given points.
And it worked out well.
Cleveland was a push.
Who do we have?
The Bears covered.
and somebody else did not.
Anyway, moving on.
We don't need to analyze that.
G-Men.
Sounds like a great trip for Buffalo people to go down to Miami in the middle of winter.
So I think Buffalo has a home crowd in Miami.
I'll lay the points.
Buffalo really needs a win.
I still think that defense is legit.
I worry about the offense and the consistency of the past game.
But I'm going to take Buffalo and give the points because they shouldn't be given that many points.
I do like the-
I like the pick, but I don't know who he was going somewhere.
What?
You were going somewhere.
I didn't mean to catch you off.
There was about to be colorful language.
Yeah.
I just don't know why the fuck the Redskins are giving points to the Jets.
That's weird.
So we'll take the Redskins.
And the Cardinals just played the Niners two weeks ago on Thursday night and covered.
And now they're still getting 10 points and no Kittle.
You saw what Kittle does to that Niners offense.
So I'll take the Cardinals in a division.
I mean, you've played in many a division games.
Yeah, especially out there.
I mean, most importantly.
you've been a double-digit underdog in most division games.
And the truth, and the truth is matter.
It's funny, but we used to be dogs all the time, double-digit dogs,
and we used to always play Seattle and San Francisco really tight when they're really good.
That division is good again.
I think it's competitive.
I like that pick.
I know I gave you the Chiefs.
My second favorite pick is probably the Saints bucks over at 49.5.
I think the Saints get right.
I also think that their defense is showing some leakage right now,
and that Back 7 has struggled.
in Tampa and what they like to do is bring pressure, bring pressure,
and Drew is pretty good against pressure.
So I like that number hitting.
And then finally, my last pick would be Rams Bears under.
It opened at 41 and a half.
I got it then.
It's at 40 now.
I still like it.
I think those two teams,
the only thing that worries me there is a defensive touchdown
or the Rams committing to the run game finally
against the defense that struggled since Hicks has been out.
I don't know what's going on there, Mary.
Who is the toughest tight end to not get reached by?
Oh man, back in the day, man, like, I don't know about now because they're not great,
but back in the day, I think about blocking tight ends.
There was this cat in San Diego who was a bona fide ass kicker.
Manu Malina.
I could not.
Oh, yeah.
You couldn't pronounce his name, but you also couldn't get off a damn block when he was on the field.
It was like, you had his picture in your locker and you were like, it's time for business.
Also, Algae Crumpler was a legend.
Algy Crupler is the reason I did not go to North Carolina.
Oh, really?
We were to save class, yeah, and I saw a film on him like, I'm not going there.
This guy's a legend, bro.
You guys a legend.
He had some clamps on him, but boy, he gets those clamps on you, forget it.
And a lot of those tight ends that do the underhands, it's a real challenge.
I mean, tight ends that can actually block you and have that death grip on the underside.
You know, there's some long-arm guys that get extension, but I actually prefer that
than a guy who has vice grips and won't get off you.
Also, there was a guy, Spath, in Pittsburgh.
From the giant went to Minnesota.
Holy shit, that guy had just vice grips.
He was a monster.
And he wouldn't leave you alone.
And I respect him.
We got into it a bunch.
But every play would hold you.
But I respected it because he did it so in such a concealed fashion.
I mean, all you could do was complain and say what the hell.
So, yeah, tight ends, man.
And by the way, I saw some old footage of you this week that went viral.
I was very pleased to see that.
Old school video, not HD.
I'm surprised they found it.
Well, I hope you enjoy Oxford.
Yeah, drink a lot of water.
Not water.
And no plastic products.
I see you with whatever the hell that thing is.
My wife has that thing too.
I think Steve's older than algae crumpler.
Are you older in algae crumpler?
Maybe by like three years.
Age-wise, yeah, but we're the same class.
Stay too.
Hey, watch this pod, Steve, for corrections.
Yeah, because you might have fact checks.
Yeah, you might get fact checked up in this motherfucker.
I watched last week.
And we're teasing something, Reed?
Cowboy Reed.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah, our bet.
Yeah, we still don't have a, we don't have a wager here.
So eventually somebody's got to sack up and say,
I've been studying open mic night footage.
I think I've prepared if that's what happens.
But I think we need to find a way to get some more people weighing in on what happens to
the loser here.
All right.
All right.
Well, we got to retweet this.
We got to go like Barstool style and just retweet this thing every hour to get people
to watch it.
Into, yeah, we will just, we'll just, we'll, we'll guerrilla tactics this and just, and pound send, pound send. Yeah. So if you're listening, please tweet at us, either Stanford Steve, myself, chalk media. Yeah. Or making Gunner, if you feel so obliged to we're trying to get over a thousand followers. Steve, no, we're not. We are. Steve, thanks for joining us. Enjoy Oxford. You got it, guys. Bye-bye. Always good having Stanford Steve on. We got a correction. We'll get to at the end here. But that was the show. Thanks for watching again.
But before we get out of here,
I want you to check out Fishbowl this weekend.
Michael Rubin.
It's nice to say a buddy of mine
when you're talking about an NBA owner.
I think we're buddies.
He's definitely one of the most, like, cool dudes about,
I know most cool is not what I'm, like, dramatically sound.
But he's one of the coolest dudes
when it comes to rolling out the red carpet
for athletes in Philly to come to Sixers games.
He's always, always taken care of,
of the ball players that play for the other teams in the city.
And social justice stuff, his story.
I mean, like generally, when we think about billionaires,
we don't think they're regular people, and they aren't.
But my man is pretty close.
I mean, he's a chill dude,
and he talks a little bit about what it's like infusing winning culture
into the Sixers and being an NBA owner.
You know, the thing I love about the Sixers is we have a great ownership group.
It's led by Josh Harris and David Blitzer.
These are really smart guys.
And I think when the team was acquired in 2011, I think Josh and David and myself and the other partners, we had a very long-term mentality to how to build, you know, to how to build this.
And I think we weren't interested in being stuck in the middle.
And so I think Josh and David had good vision and said, hey, we want to figure out how to build a championship contender.
And so we embarked on that strategy pretty quickly.
I think today, you know, until you win championships, you haven't accomplished shit.
So anyone who tells you differently, like you can look and say, hey, we were close.
but you got to win championships.
That's what the city expects from us.
That's what we expect of ourselves.
And I think that's what any sports owners should expect of themselves.
That's Michael Rubin.
Check him out on the Fish Bowl this weekend.
Continue to support Greenlight Pod if you can.
Again, Chris Long, making Gunner.
Like, subscribe, all that stuff.
Y'all take care.
Take care, y'all.
All right, let's cut two corrections.
Ready?
You ready.
So, make.
Pretty clean show for your boy.
I guess so.
You're not wearing any Celtics gear.
That's true.
I would also correct you
when it comes to picking my team
because that was totally fucked up.
Watch the show before this one.
Chris lost a bet,
and so far is not paying up.
I don't know what else to say about it.
You said earlier...
Hey, there's Super Bowl tickets.
Trying to make a joke about the White Sox in 1918.
earnestly you got 1918 wrong
before we started taping.
Yeah, that's, yeah.
Dodgers last world series, 1988.
It is indeed Mike Fires.
You sat Jarvis Landry last night.
I know everybody likes a fantasy update.
He went for 14.3 fantasy points.
Didn't need it.
Last week, I didn't even need four of my players.
I don't think you understand.
You're a game out of last place.
If you end up tying for last place,
these points are going to matter.
Maybe I want to do the Guy Fieri thing, but actually look sexy.
I got a tips guy.
Yeah?
Yeah.
So full disclosure for people listening, like, you know,
loser of our fantasy football league, which looks like he's going to be making,
who, by the way, got a haircut this week.
His dude is ready to apply the dyed tips to whatever bro comes in the last place.
In a very mediocre league.
Yeah.
Yeah, a lot of parody.
Chalkboard.
How do you spell parody in that situation?
P-A-R-I-T-Y.
The chalkboard,
five compliments is on there.
We're going to have to get that out of another...
Friday we'll do five.
No, it is Friday.
It's Saturday.
It's a day.
It's one of the days.
Whatever day this is for you, folks,
on a future day,
we're going to get to five compliments.
But that board is technically incorrect.
Gotcha.
Also looks like it was written
with your non-dominant hand.
And finally, Stanford Steve,
talking about his classmate
Algae Crumpler, who, and this is going back a ways because these are some older gentlemen.
Rainy pictures.
I mean, I have Algae Crumpler at Carolina up until 2001.
And Steve finished up in what year?
I'm seeing 98.
And maybe there, give or take a year on there, but we're going to need some clarification.
So basically Steve said that, yeah, he, he said they were.
Different ages, but the same year.
So maybe he did like a three-year post-grad deal or something.
Another thing is we can't find Stanford Steve's age on Wikipedia.
If anybody knows it, please submit it.
I can't find Stanford Steve's Wiki, period.
Okay.
No Wiki.
Anything else?
Nope.
Not bad.
See y'all.
