Starting point is 00:04:30 Please find a safe place where you can go to sleep. Let's begin. Edgar Allan Poe, the sleeper. At midnight in the month of June, I stand beneath the next. mystic moon. An opiate fella, Dewey Dim, exhales from out her golden rim and softly dripping, drop by drop, steals drowsily and musically into the Universal Valley.
Starting point is 00:05:25 The rosemary nods upon the grave. The lily lulls are rubbing the fog around its breast. The ruin moulders, unlike Leith, sea. Conscious slumber seems to take and would not for the world awake. All beauty sleeps, easement, open to the skies. Irene, with her destinies. O Lady Bright, this window open to the night. The wanton airs from the tree. top, laughing through the lattice drop. The bodiless airs, a wizard root, flit through thy chamber in and out. So fitfully, so fearfully, ghosts the shadows rise and fall. How'st thou's no fear? Why and what art thou dreaming here. Sure thou art come far off seas these garden trees. Strange as my palo, strange thy dress,
Starting point is 00:07:36 strange above all the length of dress. So solemn silentness, the lady sleeps. Oh, may her sleep, which is enduring, so be deep. Heaven, Have her in its sacred keep. Pray to God that she may lie. On the dim sheeted ghosts go by. She sleeps. Dislasting so be deep. Soft may the worms about her creep. Dim and old. Often half flung its black, so fluttering back. Unphant over the crested pull of her grand family funerals, some Sucopra remote alone, against whose portal she hath thrown. In childhood many an idle stone, some tool from out whose sounding door, she never shall force and echo more.
Starting point is 00:09:35 Poor child of sin, it was the dead who groaned within. Evening star, twas noontide of summer, Theim of night, her beam on cold smile, A fleecy cloud, way to thee. Good evening star, in the glory of far, And dearer thy beam shall be, For joy to my wrist and heaven, Obscure, and by ill angels only,
Starting point is 00:11:38 If you reach these lands, I'm thule, dear chime, That leaf supply, Water of space out, autumnless veils, endless floods and chasms and caves, titian woods, with forms that no man can discover. For the tues that drip all over, into seas without ashore,
Starting point is 00:12:29 seas that restlessly aspire, surging unto water still and the snows, thus outspread, chasms and caves, with forms that no man can distinguish, discover, but the tues that drip all over, mountains toppling to seas without ashore, seas that restlessly aspire, surging and the sad soul that here passes through dark and glows. Starting point is 00:22:37 fits a cloud another one that you're separate from these there's a distance between you as you're watching these clouds one catches your attention it is a touch of grey it's a beautiful day in the Dutch city of you trekked. The bridge crosses one of the city's canals, which encircle the centre of town,
Starting point is 00:26:07 touches the cloud, pushes them every few minutes, sounds as whist as you look up. You see the edge of one such to gold, it from, but temperature rises just enough, just as you're getting used to how this feels. You can follow the dynamic movements of the sky. Light shadow, warm to cool, passes over one corner of the sky, just a bit on the right. Gently tussles your hair. Quality of the light here is singular. Imagine the same sky stretching out over a week with shops and homes and canals. Dotting the skyline. Just as this thought crosses your mind, walls of a cathedral chime nearby. The city's winding cobblestone road, the echoes of the high intermingle. These bells, there's been an unwritten rule in the city for centuries.
Starting point is 00:30:26 Nothing stands higher than the bell tower of this mighty cathedral. It's the centrepiece of the skyline here. The cathedral, which sits behind the 1600s, separated from the main building. And so it has stood tall and square and alone. And two portions of the tower are boxy. Both section is Lacey and a... There's a chocolate shop with beautiful cakes and tars. People sit at petite tables outside the cafes. Idley flip friends.
Starting point is 00:33:20 This is the area where the church makes for a cozy gathering place. Slopes gently down. Traveling by bicycle makes. What freedom you think brings you. This is the heart of the city. The side in the city. Imagine what might have been stored behind. Spices, tea, root vegetables and grain.
Starting point is 00:38:34 These old and have been transformed into restaurants and coffee shops. Roots of live music trickle out. cellars behind you. There's a traditional Dutch pancake restaurant. Kitchen and mainide the old cellar. The dinner rushes on its way. So the waiters are setting up. The table and chairs
Starting point is 00:39:21 walk over to the restaurant and Dutch pancakes and assortment of savory and sweet toppings. There's apple and cheese, mushroom, pineapple with assortment of greens. There's chocolate for dessert or berries and cream. You also get a traditional pancake with a rich dark syrup. You'll always find here and
Starting point is 00:40:08 at all, it sounds like you can't go wrong here. Take a seat at one of the tables closest to the waiter. The waiter arrives with a pleasant smile and takes your order. You pick one of the pancakes that looked especially good on the menu. Across the canal there's a family of ducks, sitting on the brick ledge by the water, it falls its feathers and another grooms itself. It has just decided to go for a swim, lapse its wings lightly and lands on the surface of the canal, sending tiny ripples across the surface of the water. Laisily, it kicks its webbed feet, as leisurely across the canal. Looking for a snack, paddles past a handful of leaves.
Starting point is 00:41:36 That have fallen into the water. You watch them spin as the current tosses them softly, from side to side. They look like little rafts for dragonflies would be the size of a north. How fun you see it from a different angle. Not sure how ducks go about. their evening business. You aren't paying attention to time.
Starting point is 00:43:01 The first bite. Combination of flavors isn't like any. Finish your dinner. You look across the canal. You look so all. You wave to them as they pass. One of them turns to you and quacks. You imagine it.
Starting point is 00:43:57 It might be wishing you a good evening. Which makes you smile. To go on. It's a little darker now. And the streetlights begin to flicker on one by one, own streets. There's a store renting bikes just ahead of you.
Starting point is 00:44:42 It sounds more. You choose a bike that's just the right height. Glents out a gentle click. You hop onto it and adjust the seat with ease. You push forward and start to pedal away from the old. This city is particularly flat, which make for a feels nice. to use your arms and legs in tandem like this.
Starting point is 00:45:33 breeze blows past your hair as you turn left and right again your pedal under streetlights past rows of trees where birds camp out waiting for a snack as some classic Dutch houses with fancy intricate gables on the roofs summer square
Starting point is 00:46:01 Some around, some have little arches on the top. They remind you of toppers and wedding cakes, the way they stand out and white above the red buildings. He passed a statue of a rabbit from the state theatre and performing house. The road leads you around to the right. At grocery stores, you cross over smaller canals and through blooming little parks nestled between residential streets
Starting point is 00:46:48 after one intersection you find yourself peddling through a much larger park is the Willamina Park named for a famous Dutch queen there's a famous statue of her here in the centre she's wrapped in a coat
Starting point is 00:47:19 and looks quite regal As you glide past, you continue on to the next part of town. This is a residential area with small, quiet streets, lined with individual homes. Send over curtains out onto the street, inside a table set for dinner, and rows of bookshelves on living room. neighborhood you go riding effortlessly. You pass under a bridge with unusual decorations. That's so much. That's your favourite part of the city so far you think. You keep peddling.
Starting point is 00:48:52 Pass bushes with pink and purple flowers. Past a tall brick wall. Here the shiny iron gate leading into a college campus. You see students sitting outside. Sitting outside on watching day turn into night on soft blanket. Summer reading are circled up. Talking with friends, moves down to a forested path. Far as narrow on the streets stand tall and green to your right.
Starting point is 00:49:57 To your left the water flows along the bank, sometimes turning white where it passes over tangled tree roots that overhang the fragrant arose, settling in for the nutlinking of ceramic cup. You order a pot of your favourite kind of tea and take it outside on the tea house slopes gently down to the bank of the river that you followed here. You sit at one of the tables by the water, rowboats pass in either direction. There are groups of friends, families and solo travellers here. taking advantage of a nice evening for a relaxing paddle up and down the river. Once the tea has cooled off a bit, you pull yourself a cup and you enjoy the warmest sensation
Starting point is 00:52:26 as your hands on the outside of the mug feel the warm from the inside. When you take a sip, it warms you from the inside as well. It just smells up to your nose with the steam for what you have seen. seen today, the shops and homes are cooked gables. The families of ducks out, you smile thinking of them. You remember the delicious pancake and can still taste as wonderful flavors on the tip of your tongue. After finishing your tea, you head down to the river's edge and to the steady sound of the river flowing bottom at the edge of the water. To your left is calling your attention. First row boat, you ask about going back and the guide tells you,
Starting point is 00:54:05 yes, of course. You step into feeling yourself sink into the softness of the cushion beneath you. Rows you along. Ask the t-hound left to right, the paddles rowing behind you. There's something innately pleasing about the soft, rhythmic swirl of the awes through them. You'll take a while to get back to death. The guide tells you, and lots of people, use the trip for a nap. And you do feel a little bit sleepy, you think. It's been quite a day exploring this beautiful city. Gently back in the beauty of Eutrikt and the rocking of the boat. As creedoreaued you in to a safe.
