And welcome to Sleepcove with me, Christopher Fitten.
Tonight we return to the Lantern Garden.
In a previous episode, we visited the beautiful and serene lantern garden.
It's like an old Victorian garden, with glowing lanterns, quiet pathways, relaxation.
Tonight, when we revisit the garden, we'll reveal places you haven't explored before.
Hidden Victorian grottos.
moonlit hedge mazes and glass conservatories filled with night blooming flowers, secret fountains and peaceful corners made for stillness and sleep.
This guided meditation with hypnotic elements is perfect for quieting and clearing the mind, relaxing and falling to sleep quickly.
you can listen to this recording many times to get into the world and to find all its secrets.
I'll leave a link in the description to the original Lantern Garden episode if you haven't heard it already.
So please listen to this recording in a place where you can fall asleep safely.
And let's begin.
so simply make yourself comfortable eyes when they're ready.
Breathe naturally.
Let your shoulders drop to your imagination.
Follow this journey into whatever way feels easiest.
If thoughts appear, they can come and go.
You don't have to chase them.
If you stop listening,
because you have already drifted into sleep,
that's perfectly fine.
So settle into your bed now.
Let the events of the day begin to fade
and begin to return
to the relaxing lantern garden
because somewhere beyond the darkness
behind your closed eyes
the first lantern
is already glowing
so let your eyes rest and close
and become aware of the bed
beneath you
the pillow beneath your head
the mattress
supporting your body
just notice that your muscles
your body
you don't have to actively
hold yourself now
just relax and let the bed carry your weight
you can allow your whole body
to be supported at once
just relax into it
get into that perfect position for you
press your head into the pillow
and take one comfortable breath in
and then relax out
letting your entire body
settle
deeply into that
that support of the bed. That's good. Soften even more. Dropping even more.
It becomes less tense, all tension leaving it. Maybe all those muscles around your eyes.
Relax. Maybe your forehead relaxes. Smooth out and throughout your body,
everything becomes more relaxed. Your hands, don't hold any time. Don't hold any time.
your legs are becoming still.
You don't need to check whether every part of your body has relaxed.
Your body is taking care of those details by itself and taking another breath in, breathe out.
Imagining the effort of the day, simply draining downward into the bed, just relaxing, just to just
holding on to a little less than before.
Less effort.
Less doing.
And perhaps notice a little more heaviness in your body.
Perhaps becoming a little more warm.
Or the responses your feeling is fine.
Your body doesn't need to feel a certain way before sleep can happen.
and there's nothing you need to do
nothing you need to prepare for
and nothing you need to carry
so just relax
be quiet
and if you'd like to
become aware of the natural
rhythm of your breathing
you don't have to control it
your body takes in
that relaxing, nourishing air
as you breathe out of tension
feeling every exhale you do and every relaxing growth
helps your mind drift
helps you relax more
and everything around you becomes less interesting
and he sounds
can simply belong to the night
you don't react to them
you don't need perfect silence
and you don't need a completely empty mind
as thoughts and feelings, drift and somewhere near with the darkness.
Behind those relaxed, closed eyes, you imagine the smallest point of golden light and it gets bigger is a lantern.
You don't have to see it vividly.
You just know it's there as your attention moves towards that glow.
glow as an old begins the familiar against a dark, deep blue night sky and small amounts of ivy.
Gently curled and beyond it stretches the stone pathway.
Glow at comfortable intervals, the garden seems to recognise you as you put your hands on the cool
metal gate and there's something wonderfully peaceful about returning somewhere,
that already feels safe and familiar
you don't need an explanation here
you don't have to tell the garden
what kind of day you've had
you don't have to justify
while your mind may have been busy
you don't have to fix anything
before entering
the air feels cool and comfortable
as you've stepped through the gates
fully now
above you stretches
a wide star-filled sky, and the trees and foliage seem quietly more open tonight,
revealing more of the darkness ahead.
Thousands of tiny stars, some bright and some faint, and some only visible,
when you're not looking directly at them.
It's relaxation.
Sometimes the more directly you search for.
it, the more elusive it seems, and you stop searching and discover that some part of you
has already begun to settle down.
He walked slowly.
The lantern light fall across the old stones of golden light of a gentle darkness.
The conversations, responsibilities, and finish thought.
Something tomorrow can handle and you come across from the path in an old fountain.
It's still here where water moves quietly over the stone, where the flowers nearby, release.
The faint is sent into the night air of jasmine, lavender, hail raises.
Everything is familiar and yet tonight, something is different.
The pathway divides.
One direction needs
towards the part of the garden
you might already know.
But another curves
beneath an ivy
covered archway.
You don't remember
seeing it before.
Perhaps
it was always...
Perhaps the garden
simply reveals new pathways
when you're ready to explore them.
An old Victorian mountain hangs beneath the earth
to occur softly behind cars,
aiming to know exactly where the path is
you follow.
The pathway becomes narrower.
Old stone statues
appear among the greenery's covered bench.
Fragments of old walls
Beneath trailing ivy, you hear water, not the fountain behind you.
A slower sound, a quiet dripping echo, and you follow it,
until the path opens onto the entrance.
Of an old Victorian garden grotto is stoned doorway,
is framed by ivy and loss,
with a warm lantern light,
glowing within.
And you know immediately that this is a peaceful place,
a sheltered place, a hidden place,
a place where the noise of the day cannot follow.
And you step through the entrance.
And the garden behind you becomes quieter.
Inside the grotto,
the air is cool and still and gently descending stone path winds through the rock.
Small lanterns have been placed in carved alcoes and lanterns
and each one can take you farther away from ordinary thinking
and closer to sleep.
You go past the first.
The first lantern reflects in a dark hall beside the path.
One light above and one reflection below.
Perhaps your thoughts can become reflections too.
Present but distant.
9.
A narrow stream runs beside you.
Water moving naturally onwards.
never stopping to examine every place it has been and perhaps thoughts can do the same.
The path turns gently.
The sound of the outside garden becomes quieter and your awareness can become narrower.
Simpler, softer.
7.
Tiny crystals in the rock catch the lantern light.
For a moment it is almost as though there are stars beneath the earth as well as above it.
Six, another step into the lantern.
And another little piece of effort can be left behind.
You don't have to make yourself go neither.
you only need to continue.
5. Halfway now.
Not where you began.
Not yet.
But where you're going.
A comfortable in between place.
But the space between waking and dreaming.
4.
Ahead you begin to notice moonlight.
another doorway appears at the far side of the grotto.
Three, you move towards it.
The air changes.
The centre of the garden returns.
Two, you step through
and you discover another part of the Hudson Garden.
Tall hedges rise on either side beneath the stone.
behind the stars, a beautiful Victorian maze, but this maze feels different from ordinary maces.
Immediately you know, you cannot get lost here. Every pathway is one which is guiding you
to where you need to go. Every pathway bleeds towards rest.
He went to the maze, turns left, the right, and left again.
You wonder which direction leads to the centre, but then you realise something interesting.
There's nothing to solve.
No correct route.
No wrong turn.
No problem hiding inside the maze, as you understand that.
The need to figure everything out has begun to fail.
You don't have to know what comes after every corner.
You only need to know the next few steps, another turn, another lantern, another bend in the hedge.
And maybe tomorrow can work that way too.
You don't have to live tomorrow night.
You don't need to solve next week before sleeping.
You don't need every answer before closing your eyes.
One step can be enough, one breath can be enough, one lantern can be enough, and then you
turn another corner, and the maze opens.
And ahead stands a magnificent Victorian conservatory, torn glass walls, and
Elegant dark metalwork, soft amber lunds glowing within.
Moonlight shining through the glass roof and the doors open any winter.
The conservatory is warm and quiet.
Night blooming flowers grow along the pathways.
White roses.
jasmine and lavender
and large green leaves
covered with tiny drops of water
and through the glass walls
you can see the outside world
the stars the trees
the maze behind you
and you know it's still there
you don't have to engage with it
and perhaps your mind
coming in learning something
you from this place, you can know that tomorrow exist. Without entering tomorrow tonight,
you can know that responsibilities exist. Without carrying them into bed, there are unanswered
questions. Without answering them in the middle of the night, you can know something is
uncertain, without requiring certainty immediately, because anxiety can sometimes behave like an old
night watchman, a guard who was forgotten when his shift is supposed to finish, always checking,
always scanning, always asking, what about this? Whatever that happens.
Did we remember anything or everything?
Should we think about it one more time?
Perhaps that part of you
was only trying to protect you.
So tonight, you don't have to fight it.
Instead, imagine meeting the old watchman
here in the conservatory.
He carries a lantern.
He's been patrolling the same pathways.
For a very long time, you can simply tell him,
your shift is over tonight.
Everything that genuinely needs attention
can wait until daylight.
Tomorrow does not need to be guarded from inside tonight.
And you imagine the watchman hearing that, perhaps you look surprised.
Then relieved.
He hangs his lantern on a hook
Beside the door
Removes his coat and sits down
Because he can rest
You can rest
Because he no longer needs to patrol
Your mind no longer
Needs to patrol
And whenever an anxious thought appears tonight
You can respond in a very simple way
You can say, not now.
Morning can have that.
There's a thought about tomorrow.
You just say not now.
Morning can have that.
Some of things someone said earlier.
Not now.
Morning can have that.
A question with no immediate answer.
That's for the morning.
You don't argue with the thought.
You don't.
Force it away.
You don't need to prove that it is wrong.
You simply postpone it.
The beautiful thing about postponing a fault
is that you don't need to carry it
while you're postponing it.
Perhaps tomorrow it will matter.
Perhaps tomorrow it won't.
You realise you've just been overthinking for no reason.
Either way, it doesn't seem.
Maybe now, and in this night time, you don't have to decide or do anything.
Sleep does not require an empty mind.
It only requires that thoughts become less interesting than the rest.
Beautifully and interested, problem solving.
And in this conservatory, you look through a window and you see a still pond on water
and trying to force yourself to sleep
would be like repeatedly touching that water
then wondering why ripples keep appearing.
So tonight,
leave the water alone.
No checking whether you're sleepy enough.
No measuring whether you're relaxed enough.
No wondering whether sleep is about to happen
where the pond sat on itself.
Your body already knows how to sleep.
You do not have to manufacture sleep.
You allow it, and from tonight onwards,
the sensation of your head,
resting on the pillow at bedtime,
can become a gentle reminder of this garden
with a pillow beneath your head
like a blanket around you,
pulling asleep.
There's also a deep roomy red lantern, near the centre of the conservatory, a colour that represents calm aware when you happen to notice.
A similar rich red during the day in a safe and appropriate manner, it can simply remind you to pause, to breathe, to choose and to relax.
to breathe
red means pause
red means breathe
red means breathe
red means choice
again
pause
breathe
choose
and means
caramel
tonight the bedtime
itself
as its own cue
the pillow
the darkness
the lantern garden
is here for rest
because tomorrow is for doing
and tonight is for allowing.
Tomorrow is for solving.
More clearly your mind understands that difference
the easier it can be coming to let
nighttime belong to sleep.
At the far end of the conservatory
another door opens
beyond it
is a small hidden courtyard
beneath the open night sky at the centre stands an old marble fountain.
The water rises gently, then falls back into the basin.
Again you approach the fountain and somehow you understand what it is for this fountain.
can hold everything you don't need to carry into sleep.
Imagine digging one and finished thought from the day
and placing it in the water,
appears beneath the surface.
Another responsibility.
Into the fountain.
A conversation.
Into the fountain.
Something tomorrow may require.
Into the fountain.
No useful solution tonight.
The fountain.
You are not destroying any of these things.
You're simply storing them until daylight.
Morning can retrieve whatever still matters.
Night does not need to hold it.
So perhaps another thought goes into the water.
And another, they not even know exactly what you're setting down.
That's fine. Your deeper mind can handle these details.
With the water rising and falling and rising and falling.
Perhaps the space is between the very certain world and in this mountain garden.
There's nothing to solve.
Nothing that is required.
You feel so new.
Across the courtyard, stands one final archway.
You move beneath the final arch
And there is nowhere else you need to go tonight
A beautiful arbour stands beneath the stars
With pale climbing roses
Winding around its frame
The mountain glows nearby
To place to rest
And somehow it becomes your bed
A pillow in the garden
Is the pillow beneath your head
The blanket here is a little bit
the blanket around you and the garden in your room begin to blend. The final lantern grows
dimmer as going to be no return to whether. You can simply drift if a thought of ears.
Let it cross the garden like a cloud in the sky. Let it become part. The grotto is quiet.
The maze is empty. The conservatory has gone dark.
The fountain is holding everything until morning.
The watchman is resting.
The gate is closed.
And the final lantern is dimming.
And dimming softer and farther away.
And perhaps sleep is coming gradually.
There's no correct way to go forward.
You don't have to know.
And the dreaming begins.
You can stop following my words.
And stop following my words.
were like a dream, the stars can fade, my voice can just sleep, so deeply, so commutable
lantern garden, each you can return to any time you want to, because this is your place.
Your place of neat relaxation and reset. A special place.
Just for you.
