Starting point is 00:02:02 will hopefully instill the positive suggestion. and positive thinking into your subconscious, so you think a lot more positively about the future. With this story episode, I'll do something slightly different. I would do a very short relaxation technique at the beginning to the rest of the story, which will hopefully relax you and put you gently to sleep. Please let me know what you've thought.
Starting point is 00:02:38 think if you prefer these techniques or you prefer the techniques where it just launches into the story without them, I would love to know. To begin, please get comfortable in your bed and the place where you are going to safely go to sleep. You're going to be sure that you're going. So listen to this, in that safe place, can sleep as you can. stretch that position you want to sleep in. Remember it's often best to unfold the arms and across the legs
Starting point is 00:03:39 as this can cause more dysfunction and discomfort as you go to sleep. Now begin to take deep breaths in and out and relax and stretch the place for you now. Ever sleeping into a receptive mood. Hear the story which is coming up. We want to be in a place of wonder and excitement in ancient time and listen to the adventures and stories. Deep breath in, while your stomach gently rise. As you take a deep breath out, your stomach gently goes in.
Starting point is 00:06:13 Because when we over breathe, it actually stabilizes the CO2 and oxygen in our blood levels brings a natural relaxation to our body. Listen to your everyday life, feeling stress. Make sure you're breathing through your nose. You're feeling to feel loose and warm. As you drift down into sleep, it feels so good. We're going to be going off to that magic place soon. Where you'll listen to my voice tell stories.
Starting point is 00:09:09 And Munn in with their names every day. Without the Ravens coming back, then Odin standing on the watchtower, Hiddle scarf said to himself, I fear me for Hogan, lest he come not back, but I watch more for Munin. Day passed and the ravens flew back. They sat one on each of his shoulders, father go into the council hall. That was beside Glassier, wood that had leaves of gold, and to hearken to what Hogan and
Starting point is 00:10:14 Munin had to tell him, Rosen forebodings, did not speak. to the dwellers in Asgard, of the things they told him. But Frigger his queen saw in his eyes, the shadows and forebodings of things to come vote to her about these things she said. Do not strive against what must take place. Let us go to the Holy Norns, who sit by Erda's well, and see if the shadows and the forebodings will remain remain when you have looked into their eyes, and so it came that Odin and the gods left Asgard, and came to Erda's well, where under the great root of Yacrassal, the three gnawns sat, and the two
Starting point is 00:11:16 fair swans below them, and tyre the great swordsman, and Baldur, the most beautiful and the most beloved of the gods, and Thor with his hammer. The Rainbow Bridge went from Asgard and the city of the gods to Midgard, the world of men. But another rainbow bridge, more beautiful and more tremulous still, went from Asgard to the root of Yedrasil, under which was heard as well. This rainbow bridge was seldom seen by men, the ends of the two rainbows come together, Heimdell stood. Heimdall with the golden teeth, a watcher for the gods, and the keeper of the way to Erd as well.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Open the gate, Heimdell, said the All-Father. Opened the gate for today the gods would visit the holy norns. But Heimdell opened wide the gate, were led to the bridge more coloured and more tremulous than any rainbow seen from earth. Then, Did Odin and Tyre and Baldor step out on the bridge? Thor followed, but before his foot was placed on the bridge, Heimdell laid his hand upon him. The others may go, but you may not go that way, Thor, said Heimdall. What, would you Heimdell hold me back? said Thor.
Starting point is 00:13:02 Yes, for I am the keeper to the north. said Heimdell. You with a mighty hammer you carry are too weighty for this. The bridge I guard would break under you, Thor with the hammer. Nevertheless, I will go visit the Norns with Odin and my comrade, said Thor. But not this way, Thor, said Heimdell. Let the bridge be broken under the weight of you and your hammer, leave your hammer here with me if you would go this way. No, no, said Thor, I would not leave in anyone's charge the hammer that defends Asgard from going with Odin and my comrades. There is another way to heard as well, said Heimdahl. Behold, these two great
Starting point is 00:14:01 crowd rivers, Cormont and Ermont, canst thou wade through them? They are cold and suffocating, but they will bring thee to herd as well, where sit the three holy norns, or looked out onto the two great rolling rivers of cloud. It was a bad way for one to go, cold and suffocating. Yet, if you went that way, that way he could keep on his shoulder, the hammer which you would not leave in another's charge.
Starting point is 00:14:40 He swept out his. to the Cloud River, there flowed by the Rainbow Bridge, and with his hammer upon his shoulder, he went struggling unto the other river. Odin, Tyre and Belder were besided as well, when Thor came struggling out of the Cloud River, wet and choking, but with his hammer still upon his shoulder, to Tyir, upright and handsome. leaning on his sword that was inscribed all over with magic runes. There stood Baldur, smiling with his head bent, as he listened to the murmur of the two in his blue cloak,
Starting point is 00:15:37 fringed with golden stars upon his head, and with no spear in his hands. The three gnawls, Erda, Ferdani and Skaldar sat beside the well that was in the hollow, of the great root of Yegrasel. Cedar was ancient and with white hair and Vedani was beautiful while Skada
Starting point is 00:16:06 could hardly be seen for she sat far back and her hair fell over her face and eyes Skoldar the present and the whole of the future soar into the eyes of Skulldar even
Starting point is 00:16:31 long he stood looking at the norms with the eyes of a god, while the others listened to the murmur of the swans, leaves of Gwarkasel, into Erd as well. Looking into their eyes, Odin saw the shadows and forebodings, that Hugin and Moonin told to him that word take shape and substance. Others came across the rainbow bridge. They were Frigger and Siff, lives of Odin, Thor and Baldur,
Starting point is 00:17:11 Frigger looked upon the Norns. As she did, she turned a glance of love and sadness upon Baldur her son, and then she drew back and placed her hand upon Nanna's head, gazing on the Norns, and looked upon Frigur his queenly wife. I would leave Asgard for a while, wife of Odin, he said. Yes, said Frigur, much has to be done in Midgard, the world of men. I would change what knowledge I have into wisdom, said Odin, so that the things that are to happen will be changed into the best that may be. You would go to murmurs well, said Frigur. I would go to murmur as well, said Odin. My husband, go, said Frigur. That is more beautiful and more tremulous than the one that they had seen from the earth, The Rainbow Bridge, the Azur and the Esnir, Odin and Frigur and Baldur with his sword and sift beside Tear.
Starting point is 00:18:29 As for Thor he went struggling through the cloud rivers, cornment and ermant, his hammer Molnir upon his shoulder. Little Hinesa, the youngest of the dwellers in Asgard, was there, standing beside Heimdel, the watcher for the gods and the keeper of the bridge stirred as well, when Odin all farther and Frigger his queen went through the great gate with heads bent. Tomorrow, Hanessa heard Odin say, Tomorrow I shall be Veghtam the Wanderer upon the ways of Midgard and Jottenheim.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Sacrifice for wisdom. Leaving his spear in his hands, and made his way towards Jottenheim, the realm of the giants. No longer was he called Odin or father, but Vetchtam the one traveller's staff in his hands. Him as well, which was near to Jottenheim. He came upon a giant, riding on a great stag. Odin seemed a man to men and a giant, two giants. He went beside the giant on the great stag
Starting point is 00:20:30 And the two taught together Who art thou, Obrother? Oden asked the giant I am Fath Threadner The wisest of the giants Said the one who was riding on the stag Odin knew him then Thrudner was indeed the wisest of the giants And many went to strive to gain wisdom from him
Starting point is 00:20:55 But those who went to him had to answer the riddles, Valfrodner asked, And if they failed to answer the giant, He took their heads off. I am Veggdam the Wanderer, Odin said. And I know who thou art, O valthrodner. I would strive to learn something from thee. The giant laughed, showing his teeth.
Starting point is 00:21:24 Ho-ho, he said, I am ready for a game to. with thee. Dows thou know the stakes? My head to thee, if I cannot answer any question, thou wilt ask. And if thou canst not answer any question that I may ask, then thy head goes to me, ho, ho, ho, and now let us begin. I am ready, Odin said. Then tell me, said Thouffrodner. Tell me the name of the river that divides Asgard with Jottenheim. Ifling is the name of the river, said Odin. Ifling, that is dead cold, yet never frozen. Thou hast answered rightly, O wanderer, said the giant,
Starting point is 00:22:18 but thou hast still to answer other questions. What are the names of the horses that day and night drive across the sky? Skin facts and Hirim facts, Odin answered. But Althrida was started to hear one say the names that were known only to the gods and to the wisest of the giants. There was only one question now that he might ask before it came to the stranger's turn to ask him questions. Tell me, said Valthredner,
Starting point is 00:22:53 what is the name of the plain on which the last battle will be fought. The plain of Vygard, said Odin, the plain that is a hundred miles long and a hundred miles across. It was now Odin's turn to ask Valthruthrader questions. What will be the last words that Oden will whisper into the ear of Baldur, his dead son, he asked. Very startled was the giant,
Starting point is 00:23:26 Valthrunda at that question, he sprang to the ground and looked at the stranger keenly. The giant laughed, showing his teeth. Ho-ho, he said, I am ready for a game with thee. Dows thou know the stakes? My head to thee, if I cannot answer any question, thou wilt ask. And if thou canst not answer any question that I may ask, Then thy head goes to me, ho, ho, ho, and now let us begin. I am ready, Odin said.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Then tell me, said Thalfrodner. Tell me the name of the river that divides Asgard with Jottenheim. Ifling is the name of the river, said Odin. Ifling, that is dead cold, yet never frozen. Thou hast answered rightly, O wanderer, said the giant, but thou hast still to answer other questions. What are the names of the horses that day and night drive across the sky? Skin facts and Hirim facts, Odin answered, but Arthrada was started to hear one say the names
Starting point is 00:24:50 that were known only to the gods and to the wisest of the giants. There was only one question now that he might ask before it came to the stranger's turn to ask him questions. Tell me, said Valfredner, what is the name of the plane on which the last battle will be fought? The plain of Vygard, said Odin, the plane that is a hundred miles long and a hundred miles across. It was now Odin's turn to ask Valthrudner questions. What will be the last words that Oden will whisper into the ear of Baldur, his dead son, he asked. Very startled was the giant Valthrundur at that question. He sprang to the ground and looked at the stranger keenly.
Starting point is 00:25:47 Only Odin knows what his last words to Valdur will be, he said. And only Odin would have asked that question. Thou art Odin, O wanderer, and thy question I cannot answer. Then, said Odin, if thou wast keep thy head, answer me this. What price will Mimur ask for a draught from the well of wisdom that he guards? Thy right high as a price, Oden? said Valfrodner, will he ask no lesser price than that, said Odin? He will ask no lesser price.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Many have come to him for a draught from the well of wisdom, but no one yet has given the price murmur asks. I have answered thy question, Oden. Now give up my claim to my head and let me go on my way. I give up my claim to thy head, said Odin. Vathrodner, the wisest of the giants, went on his way, riding on his great stag. It was a terrible price that Muir would ask for a draught from the well of wisdom, and very troubled was Odin or father when it was revealed to him, his right eye,
Starting point is 00:27:16 for all time to be without the sight of his right eye. Almost he would have turned back to Asgard, giving up his quest for wisdom. He went on, turning neither to Asgard nor to Murmers well, and when he went towards the south, he saw Muspelheim, where stood Surtur with the flaming sword, a terrible figure who had one day joined the giants in the war against the gods, and when he turned north, he heard the roaring of the cauldron, as it poured itself out of Nifheim, face of darkness and dread.
Starting point is 00:28:04 And Odin knew that the world must not be left between Surtur and who would destroy it with fire and Nifheim that would gather it back to darkness and nothingness. He, the eldest of the gods, would have to win the wisdom that would help to save the world. and so with his face stern, in front of his loss and pain, Odin all father turned and went towards murmurs well. It was under the great root of Yiddrasel, the root that grew out of Jottenheim. And there sat Mimur, the guardian of the well of wisdom, with his deep eyes bent upon the deep water. every day from the well of wisdom, knew who it was that stood before him. Hail Odin, eldest of the gods, he said.
Starting point is 00:29:05 Then Odin made reverence to Memer, the wisest of the world's beings. I would drink from your well, Memer, he said. There is a price to be paid. All who have come here to drink have drunk from paying that price. Will you, eldest of the gods, pay it? I will not shrink from the price that has to be paid, Mimur, said Odin or father. Then drink, said Mimir. He filled up a great horn with water from the well, and gave it to Odin, both his hands,
Starting point is 00:29:48 and drank and drank, and as he drank all the future became clear to him. He saw all the sorrows and drowd. troubles that would fall upon. But he saw too why the sorrows and troubles had to fall, and he saw how they might be born so that gods and men, by being noble in the days of sorrow and trouble, would leave in the world a force that one day, a day that was far off indeed, would destroy the evil that brought terror and sorrow and despair. He had drunk out of the great horn that Mamur had given him, he put his hand to his face and he plucked out his right eye. Terrible was the pain that Odin all father endured, that he made no groan nor moan.
Starting point is 00:30:47 He bowed his head and put his cloak before his face, as Murmur took the eye and let it sink deep, deep into the water of the well of wisdom. And there the eye of Odin stayed, shining up through the water. a sign to all who came to that place of the price that the Father of the Gods had paid for his wisdom.
