Welcome to Sleepcove with me, Christopher Fitten,
Today I'll guide you through a gentle, sleep meditation to help you settle down for sleep.
We'll begin with comfortable breathing, then let the body soften and the mind wander towards
rest.
Your vagus nerve is part of the nervous system involved in rest and digestion.
It carries messages between your brain and organs, including your heart and gut.
Tonight, we relax that vagus nerve in your mind and body and drift into relaxation.
This is a premium episode that can be found at sleepcove.com slash support.
Please listen to this recording where you can safely sleep.
and we'll begin and just get comfortable again on the bed and into the pillow, sinking down again, letting the pillow and the bed gently but firmly support you.
You feel so good, you feel amazing.
All through this, you can always relax a little more as your nose deeply gets deeply
connected to the bed. Your shoulders drop. Your back relaxes. Your upper arms rest. Your elbows and full arms and hands. Just relax. Your fingers can infill if they want to.
And your hands are just empty because there is nothing. They need, if any part of you, remains tense. You can never.
Let it be, leave it alone, and let your attention settle somewhere that already feels so comfortable.
One hand perhaps or focus on the place where your shoulder meets the mattress.
Even a small area of ease is somewhere to rest your attention when you notice your upper back, or underneath it.
You let your chest move left with your body.
You feel me focus down into your stomach.
Breathing in.
You feel the weight, you feel, and you're so comfortable.
And you can move and get into the most comfortable position for you at any time.
And you just settle more and you allow your thighs to rest.
You let your attention pass through your lower legs, towards your ankle,
and feet taps your feet feel warm beneath the covers.
Perhaps one is resting against the other.
Notice.
The fabric touching your toes.
There is no particular feeling you need to find.
You can simply know that your feet are resting too.
You sense your whole body.
With your body you notice places that feel heavy
and others that feel like.
Some parts may be easy to notice, while others seem far away, and you let it all belong to this moment as the med supports you.
Whether or not you're paying attention to it, you can stop checking each part of yourself need to rest.
And as he feels so relaxed, perhaps your mind is still moving through the day, remembering a conversation,
making a plan
or returning to something and finish
while
if you notice one thought
you might quietly say to yourself
there's a thought
let your attention come back to the pillow
or to the sound of my voice
to finish the thought before returning
you might imagine a notebook
on a bedside table
its pages are there for the things
you want to return to another time without working through the details.
Imagine placing a reminder on one of those pages.
Just enough to let the matter rest for now.
You can close the notebook and leave it on the table.
It will be there when you choose to pick it up again and your attention can come back to this
room, this bed, this quiet,
part of the evening. Perhaps there's a feeling here as well as a thought, some frustration or
sadness or a restless feeling that's difficult to name. You'd have to argue with it.
See if you can speak to yourself a little more gently. It's been a long day and you can say,
I can give myself a little, let these words be an offer. You can take what feels helpful,
you enjoy that preview. Please go to sleepcove.com slash support to sign up to our supporters feed
now to get access to this full episode, hundreds of exclusive episodes, every episode
ad-free, as well as access to our four other podcasts. Thank you so much.
