His name is Jack Delacho, guys.
And Jack is a sleep coach for many high performers and athletes.
And I recently met Jack because I became really obsessed.
with something that he created, which were these mattresses, actually, of all things that are like
EMF protected and like a high performance mattress, which I never heard of, by the way. And I thought
it was super interesting. So I invited him to come on and just kind of talk about sleep and to talk
about like true sleep hygiene that some people get wrong and or that's become super trendy
and maybe not necessarily true. So without further ado,
here and welcome to the podcast. Hello, Jack. Hello, and thank you very much for having. I'm really excited
to be here in person. Absolutely. I've enjoyed getting to know you. We've seen each other only a few
times once, was at Eudamonia. Actually, that was the first time and probably the only time. He always
talked on the phone. And like I said, I really found you really fascinating. So I wanted to have you on.
And so what we do on this show, just to start off, is we take these performance shots by someone called Magic Mind.

So I'll tell you, when we spoke on the phone the first time, and the first few times, I should say, we really connected.
I thought you were awesome.
I thought it was an us thing.

Well, I mean, I wouldn't go that far.
I know a lot of people who don't love me, Jack, and I can give you a long list of them.
But, you know, I try to, you know, I think it's important.
people you got to lead with how I think that what I do well which is why what you probably saw is that I'm very much someone who wants to like help and connect other people a lot like that's kind of like what I do naturally and I don't there's no ulterior motive like I'm not doing it because there's like oh I'm going to like get X or Y at the end of the thing and I think that maybe people find that like maybe they feel that and so that authenticity I don't know maybe maybe not maybe not
not. Who knows? But I can tell you, like I said, a million people who may not feel that way.
But yeah, like, you're, so, you know, it's interesting. Like, I didn't know even you existed or,
like, the mattress existed or anything. And then when I found it, then, like, all these people came
out of the woodwork. Oh, yeah, I use that one. Oh, yeah. It's amazing. So can you kind of just, like,
before we even get into any of this stuff, kind of talk about your background, like what you're,
I want to hear, like, how they, like, what you do day to day and how you became.

Sure. Thanks. Well, yeah, you know, I guess not everyone talks about their mattress, right?
That's nobody does. Nobody does. So that's a random thing. And when you do talk about it,
that's when things come up. And you, you know, if you speak to anybody, you know, that's,
that's into wellness, longevity, typically our name should come up. You know, we've been doing it for
21 years. You know, my journey started 25 years ago. And, you know, the purpose that I came into
this was it had people in the family who had cancer and just learning about their sleep environment,
their home environment, and realizing certain sensitivities that they had to chemicals,
exposure to pain after treatments. So the products that were out there weren't really covering
that. So I went into my first direction into here is trying to figure out, having an entrepreneurial
side since always. And so, you know, I started researching how we can make it better, how we can make
latex perform better, have pressure relieving distribute properties. So when I dove into that,
it took me about three and a half, four years to develop a product. Again, it was still not a
business or anything. And I still wasn't a sleep coach at that point because it was just more of a
material science side of it. But I had developed this product. And then I was trying to,
okay, well, who wants to take on this product? So I tried that offer.
it to the big mattress companies, the big foamers. Nobody really wanted it. It was a more expensive
option, but it was a healthier option. Right. But that's not what general big business looks for.
Big business looks for, you know, more lower costs, higher efficiencies, but not necessarily
wellness and health was not the driver. Well, you know, it's interesting because like you just
said, like to that point, you know, when you think about health, you don't naturally go to my mat,
your mattress, right? But I think there's been much more focused recently in the last few years
about toxins, right? Like in your environment. Yeah. And so like home, like in your home,
right, that people don't necessarily even, again, they think about now cooking, cookware. They think
about microplastics, of course, in bottles, plastic, whatever. They think about,
not just even in cookware, even like, um, things to like cleaner, cleaning supplies.
still never your mattress, which is what you're on half your life on.
Like you're on, like you sleep at least, let's say, six, seven, eight, nine, ten hours a day.
And I think that no one's made the connection or the correlation between, wow, I'm on this thing for half my life.
And yet it could be super toxic.
And one of the interesting things is that, you know, I don't, there's two things that I do.
I'm a sleep coach to so many athletes, like you said, I've always.
But more than anything else, our company.
I don't think we're a mattress company.
We're a wellness company.
Yeah.
Completely.
Just because a lot of that misconception is people not fully understanding what sleep is about,
what sleep is for, that sleep environment, how important it is.
And it all comes down to brain health.
And it's not physical health.
Because if we're clearing up the mind.
So when people think about mattresses, they think about shoulder pain, neck pain, back pain,
it's time to change the mattress.
But they're not actually realizing what we're trying to accomplish
in six to eight hours is to get three, three and a half hours of REM sleep and deep sleep.
Why are we looking for that?
We're looking for brain health.
We're looking for to detoxify the brain.
We're looking for the brain to be able to communicate to the body to put its repair systems in.
It's all managed and run by our brains.
So we're not just supporting our bodies.
We're supporting our brain.
That doesn't come with a pillow.
That comes with taking out all those stimulants and disruptors,
which are toxins, which are excessive heat.
which are EMFs, the allergens.
All these things are keeping your brain defense is active.
If your brain's defenses are active,
it's not recovering and healing.
So are you telling me that most, like, okay,
so, because that's interesting,
because I know, like, the whole thing about having an EMF protected mattress,
I never even heard of that in my life.
So does that, does that mean most mattresses are what,
basically because mattresses wouldn't naturally have an EMF situation because that would come from
Wi-Fi or phones. Correct. So what was the correlation between a mattress and EMF? So it's all the
sleep environment, right? That's what we obsess over. And all mattresses and others at different levels,
different degrees are the most hazardous item in your bedroom. So whether it's a coil mattress,
is just truly becoming an antenna for EMFs
and attracting EMFs to be spiraling through your body.
Then there's a plug-in devices with beds
that, again, are also channeling more currents through your body.
Grounding systems are just funneling through your body.
So grounding itself is not a solution for this.
In all of those circumstances, and again,
working with institutional customers and all that,
we really focus on everything evidence-based.
So what really happens during EMFs, which are transmissions from your phone, tablets, Wi-Fi, all that stuff is the real dangers of EMFs today.
Old-school EMFs, we're talking microwaves, we're talking toaster.
That's what old-school EMFs should talk about grounding all these items.
But today's toxicity, electrical toxicity, comes from signals that are all around us.
No question, though.
Not to even like, you know, interject yet, but does that mean your phone has more EMFs than a microwave these days?
Well, your microwave is not in a bedroom next to you.
No, but in general.
No, I'm not even talking about that.
So, yes, it's very, very different, though.
Okay.
So what's coming out of your microwave, if you were to have your microwave next to you on your bed,
yeah, I wouldn't advise that because that's something that's emitting from the microwave.
No, no, I was going to have a mic-well, very few are going to have a microphone.
But what I'm saying is, what is the, I'm curious, forget about the mattress.
Yes.
I'm just curious, just apples to apples or oranges.
Well, I would say the microwave is worse than the phone.
However.
They don't have a microwave because of that.
But now the phone is something different because during these transmissions, it's, it's pulling in the signals.
What these signals are doing to your blood cells, and we can showcase this through.
through dark field microscopy and you see your blood.
It creates an environment where your blood cells
start to cluster together, which is called a Rulo effect.
It's kind of like rolls of coins.
That's what it kind of looks like.
So your blood is actually being impacted by these transmissions.
So we see it right there.
A lot of times people have difficulty understanding
that something is bad for you because they can't see it,
like toxins.
I can't see it, I can't smell it.
It's not bad for you.
Well, toxins are really thin, thinner than air.
But they absorb
through our skin, they go through our bloodstream.
So toxins are bad for you.
People are accepting that these days.
EMFs is that next wave where not everyone accepts,
I can't see it, it can't be hurting me.
But you see it now.
Today we've been able to discover that we can see that through your blood cells.
And it is doing something.
And we can't tell you exactly what that cluster of cells is doing for you.
We can hypothesize that it's blocking some of the oxygen flow from freely glowing,
which means that you're not healing and recovering us quickly.
Maybe in 20 years we'll learn other negative impacts of that effect of your bloodstream.
So what a lot of people do is try to block that out.
I work with a lot of athletes and what things athletes won't do,
because a lot of them have been away from home from a very young age,
they need to stay communicated.
You know, they've been training all day, they're on the road, they play games.
Their only contact with family and friends is that cell phone at the end of the day
right before going to bed, right?
So for years, I kept telling them,
keep these things out of your room,
just stay away from it,
and it didn't really connect.
They'll do everything but that.
Yeah.
And a few years ago,
I was working in Switzerland
with a doctor that was really exploring
the use of having a dominant wave
that would force the signals to come in
in a dominant wave
because the cell phone use doesn't require
an erratic,
wave to come in. It just the signal could come in in a harmonic wave. So we started to explore that and we
saw that, hey, this is really, this is really real. This is something. So we made our bed, our foam actually
with an informed quartz where the quartz has a signal and that signal mimics the human body's signal.
So when you're getting a phone call on our foam, it's coming in with a harmonic, natural organic wave.
and it actually does not impact your blood cells.
So we are able to demonstrate that during an active phone call, streaming downloads,
watching whatever movies you want, on our foam, your blood cell behavior is completely normal
and does not get affected by that.
Is it because there's no coils in the mattress?
No.
The coils are a huge negative thing not to have, but just the coils alone are not.
So if you buy an all-foam organic mattress, it won't.
behave as ours because ours has this dominant wave pattern in it, exactly, which is we all have
a signal. Our bodies have signals as well. The quartz is amplifying the same signal that we have.
How did you figure out the quartz is the trick? It was Dr. Valer from Switzerland. That was
his finding. The only thing in our collaboration, we realized that it married so well,
our foam amplified the signal that much more because our foam is also organic. And
When they merge together, the impacts were huge.
Okay, so that makes sense.
So that's what makes it EMF protected.
Correct.
It's because of the quartz and the foam that are together.
So why are more people not putting quartz in their mattresses?
Well, I mean, it's a specific formula that we have.
It's only at Ascentia.
That's part of what we've developed.
And so it really takes this organic product, this organic blend,
and it's something proprietary that we do.
Interesting.
So, okay, so then let's say if I were to do a test myself, right, like a third-party test,
and let's say do therapeutic or whatever that matth, what's that mattress called?
Therapeutic.
We don't want names.
I'm just going to say a therapeutic mattress or one that has no coils, okay, foam.
Yes.
And then your mattress.
Would I actually see my blood be different in both mattresses if I took a test?
Absolutely, yes. But I'll tell you there's a lot of things going on there. Now you opened up a whole other thing.
Okay, good. That's what I'm here for.
So I would say that the EMFs that you're exposed to on that mattress is not number one on your problem list.
Oh, it's not?
No, number one, your problem list on the product that you're describing as an all-foam mattress is toxins.
So number one, that one is emitting toxins. So what those toxins do, again, we go to about brain,
health. What are those toxins doings? They're stimulating your central nervous system to actually speed up.
It's like I call that the sleeping pill. You get on that bed exhausted, you're knocked out.
You may say you sleep for eight hours, but you're actually getting light sleep because the central
nervous system activation that that causes keeps you in light sleep more than deep sleep.
So it takes longer to try to fully recover to get your three, three and a half hours. Most people
don't even get them on those mattresses.
Why? Because your brain is too active and not slowing down and able to get into REM sleep
and deep sleep. Those are the key parts of sleep that lead to recovery. And we obsess over REM sleep
and deep sleep in all of our sleep studies just because that's what moves the needle on
wellness. Both mental wellness and physical wellness happens in those two stages.
So this is actually very interesting to me, to be honest, because
this is like an area that you don't really hear.
I know it may, to some people listen,
they're like, why are they talking about mattresses?
It sounds so silly.
But it's actually not because it's not something that people ever think about.
And it can make a huge impact on your overall health.
You know, like I said, I'm going to reiterate this.
This is why I have you on because everyone's talking about the same things over and over and over again.
And they're like forgetting these like fundamental pieces that really can impact someone's overall health,
like what you're actually sleeping on.
So it's not just about sleeping eight hours or six hours in a cold room that's dark.
It's all these other things that impact your actual recovery and brain health and sleep.
So, okay, so I didn't even think.
So basically you're saying, I want to just summarize that because I want to make sure I understand this.
And I want to make sure people listening to.
So when you're sleeping on a mattress, it could be any, you know, mattress that's very popular that doesn't have what you guys have.
because your brain has to be fighting off the toxins or your blood, you're actually not getting
the same type of rest for your brain as you would otherwise.
Correct.
So like those, like, because it has to be constantly in like fight mode.
And you're sleeping not as deeply and heavily because of it, which is what keeps your,
that's what actually gives your brain the health to give your body the recovery.
Is that right?
That's correct.
Yeah.
That is very interesting to me.
The whole source is from the brain.
Your whole immune system functions.
It's from the brain.
It comes from the brain.
That's basically our main computer, right?
That's what's treating every signal around your body to do everything it needs to do.
Like what I would challenge people to, and what I'm going to do, actually, I don't, I stopped
wearing a lot of the wearables, like the, you know, all the things to like track everything
because I think it becomes a stress in itself.
I used to wear the aura rings and the whoops and this and that.
I track on my watch.
I track my steps, how many miles I go, that type of thing.
Because that just keeps me competitive with myself.
I want to make sure I'm like hitting my 15, 20,000 steps a day.
Yes, that's how much I try to do.
Not 10.
I think 10's arbitrary, depending on who you are.
10 for some people could be great.
Not for my, you know, my monkey mind has to be way busy or more active.
But my point is that, that, like, if they were tracking this, it would be an interesting exercise to see where their ram, where their deep is on a regular mattress.
Because, like, and this is actually, maybe it's psychosomatic.
I don't know.
But when I sleep on my mattress, I actually do sleep, I think, better.
Like, I don't wake up as many times.
Absolutely.
Like, and I don't know if it's just because, and it doesn't even matter, I guess, right?
It doesn't matter if it's psychosomatic or placebo or whatever, if it's helping, if it's helping.
But I've never actually done a true test between this mattress and that mattress.
So we're the most third-party tested product out there.
Really?
Yeah.
Okay, tell me more.
So I'll give you one when we talk about placebos.
Yeah.
Two years ago, we did a double-blind study, sleep study with 75 pro athletes.
Half of them, everyone thought they were sleeping on essential, but only half of them were.
Really?
Yeah. So in that whole study, one is everyone's sleeping on a Sanchez,
score 20 to 60 percent more REM sleep and deep sleep.
20 to 60 percent, that's a game changer.
Like, that's what we call moving the needle.
And just to tell you, the placebos were all top performing mattresses,
the selection that all the players thought would be the most performing mattress.
So what these players thought would be,
according to their trainers, according to, you know, the leaders out there would be the healthiest
mattresses for high-performing athletes, those were who we put as placebos. And yet the Ascensia
product was hitting 20 to 60% more. What was really also incredible is that aside from, and these
were all using trackers, that's what the beauty of these days is tracking it. One of the things
about you mentioned of not getting distracted or getting stressed over your sleep, we also
tell the athletes not to look and not to read into their REM sleep and deep sleep on a daily basis,
just because the opposite impact happens is that if they're going into a big game and they look
at their tracker and they said, I had a bad night's sleep, they're going to be stressed out
and concerned that they may not perform well that night. So we always tell players do not, do not track
your sleep, have somebody in the organization can look at it. You look at 10-day averages,
don't look at the day alone. So we try to eliminate that mental
part of the game that you want them to be always at their best. But one of the interesting
thing was the less evidence-based is that we were able to ask them questions. Now, this is all
subjective answers, but we asked them about their perceived happiness. We asked about their focus.
We asked about their ability to absorb plays and new lessons of the day. And overwhelmingly,
the essential group was scoring much better also in that. So you can see how
proper sleep leads to better life, better happiness, better focus, concentration, better performance.
And when you're sleeping well, when your brain is well rested, it improves your reflexes.
It actually improves, it decreases your possibility of injury because when you're out of focus,
a little blurred, you're making the wrong moves, you're doing something wrong and you expose yourself
to injury as well.
So there's so much that happens in proper.
REM and proper deep sleep. Why is nobody talking about this then? Like, why are people not talking about
like this part of, of like sleep hygiene? I don't ever hear. I've never heard anyone really talk
about it. No, because everyone's out to sell a product. And honestly, you know, my approach to this
is, is wellness. Aren't you? You have a product. I do have a product. But I always invite people to
learn from us. You go on our website, learn, read about it. Because the,
you know, some products become pricey, and I just want you to learn. So if you can take away
some of these stimulants, you know, start with an organic mattress, at least that do the first
start. That's a basic, right? So when someone gets an organic mattress, right? What does that mean?
Well, one, so, so, it means like the materials are, what? Um, natural materials. They have to be
natural pesticide-free materials. But the problem is most organic mattresses out there are with
coils. And that's something else. So if you, if you, if you,
Is that right?
Correct.
Yeah.
95% of organic mattress sold out there are have spring coils in.
Why?
Because a true organic mattress is just taking your cheapest non-organic mattress and just
making those materials organic.
So for example, your regular cheap mattress could be a $3 to $700 mattress.
That $3 to $700 mattress is a coil unit with some polyester padding on it, a thin layer
foam and a polyester quilt on top. That's what that is. It's very basic, very simple, inexpensive.
The organic version of that is going to be a thousand to a thousand five, kind of overpriced,
to be honest with you, because they're not, but all they've done is they've kept the coal unit
in there. They've replaced the thin foam layer with a thin latex, organic latex foam
layer, but not enough for any real physical well-being. They've replaced the polyester with
wool and they've replaced the polyester shell with organic cotton. So it's, it's sort of like your
entry level cheap mattress. Yeah. The only thing it's doing, it's not off gassing, but it's not
giving you all the other stacked benefits that you really need. It's better. Like what? Give me the
other ones, though, you talked about. So thermal regulation. So, and that's a whole other ballgame that we
get, we get, we want to talk about all of it. That's what I want to understand because like I said,
I didn't understand any of this. And I'll tell you something. I was like talking about your mattress on like one of my social media things I was doing like, oh, I got this new mattress. Probably everyone thought it was like a sponsored post that I got paid. I did not get paid. And I was like saying it was EMF protected. It was a non-toxic, it was a non-toxic, it was a non-toxic. It was a non-toxic. It was a high-performance mattress. Like,
so many people who are in the health and wellness space.
So, like, this is like, again, I have to say it over and over again.
I think it's like one thing that nobody knows.
They don't think about it.
Like, by the way, my kids, your kids, they're all sleeping on these mattresses,
like half their life.
Again, like they're spending like 12, 15 hours on these mattresses.
Okay.
And part of the things, one of the things like when I see when I start talking to someone
about it and people who think they know, they just cut you off
because they think it's such a simple amput.
There's a lot going on in your sleep.
There's a lot going on.
And it's too much because sometimes people don't want it to be that long.
So sometimes they'll answer me quick.
Oh, I know.
I've got this or I've got that.
I go, yeah, do you really know?
Because that organic mattress, it's just not cutting it.
It's not enough.
That's not enough for brain health.
You've detoxified the room, which is awesome.
But you haven't handled the EMFs, you haven't handled just the basics of posture support,

Okay, the other thing I was going to say, because I just thought of this, but then if they ask,
or I'm going to ask, like, okay, well, I'm going to put a, like, I have a, you put your sheets
on the mattress.
So if that's covering the mattress, are you then safe?
Because if you're like, if you are shielded by, you know, a protective layer, does that change the adverse effects of the mattress?
So if we're talking about toxins?
So when it comes to toxins, no, because earlier I mentioned how all of it.
Well, toxins are thinner than air.
Right.
So it goes through.
It goes way through.
Just just as, so you can't, you can't box in those toxins.
They're constantly emitting and affecting your body.
Okay.
So, and in fact, if you have a good question.
quality organic mattress you want an organic sheet to make sure that that breathability is constant and
always happening as well. So your sheet should be organic as well. You need to get a second job for this
stuff, right? Because it's expensive. And then what about the pillow? So if you're getting everything,
if you're doing everything right, all of that needs to be organic, all of that needs to be without
any coil systems. Right. So pillows are safer, right? There's no coil system in there. So you can get
organic materials with the, with the pillow and then have an organic pillow case. Exactly. So that's
okay. Exactly. That's okay. It's really about how the mattress is being made.
Correct. And so now if you have this fully foam or fully organic foam material, that's your
foundational element. That's what I like to tell people if, you know, like do your best to eliminate
the important stimulants and toxins is one of them. Thermal regulation is something. That's a big
myth out there. Everyone, because old school, when you don't have the proper devices or you don't have the
proper tools you make with what you have, right? So, so, you know, old school is sleep in a cold
room. Absolutely. That's great. That's, that still doesn't move the needle on REM and deep sleep.
Why? And the biggest popularity, especially with the toxic foams, is everyone gets a cooling bed.
If you go shopping for a mattress, they're going to sell you cooling gels, cooling foams,
cooling covers. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. But you cannot introduce mechanical or chemical
cooling devices. First of all, our bodies
are not meant to be refrigerated.
Again, with our obsession with
sleep studies, we're able to see one.
If you put in a chemical, which the
most we use right now
is a chemical cooling
agent that goes into the foam and goes
into the textile of the fat. Are we talking
about brands that we all know? Yes.
Yes. Every single major
brand uses the chemical
treated cooling. So these are all
considered to be wellness companies, too.
And yet, like, their cooling system
are non-organic, and very toxic.
Exactly.
And they're selling millions of units.
Yes, exactly.
Now, two things that are happening to your body
and to your brain when you're on one of these cooling beds.
Okay.
It's a chemical reaction.
So you get on the bed, feels fresh.
And men, there were worse shoppers for this
because men like to be cool.
And they'll go into a mattress shop and they'll feel,
all of a sudden, it feels like they're touching ice.
And they love it.
It goes, that's what I need to sleep on.
They're not really thinking of that chemical reaction that just happened.
Their phase-changing chemicals.
So when it's confronted with heat, a chemical reaction happens and a cooling sensation comes out of it.
And it lasts maybe 30 seconds.
And then the temperature starts to warm up again.
So on that bed, you're chasing the cold.
So you get in position, feels refreshing.
Then it gets warmer.
You toss into a new position.
You chase the cold again.
create a new chemical reaction, then that warms up.
Then you change position again.
So you're chasing the cold.
You're not really sleeping.
You may not be conscious, but you're not really sleeping.
So it's not staying cold?
It doesn't stay cold.
It needs a reaction to happen every time.
The reaction happens once.
Then you toss into a new position.
It happens again.
You toss into another.
So you're chasing the cold area.
Okay, I want to ask a question.
Hold on, okay.
I thought, I assumed, I should say, that all of the,
cooling beds,
mattresses,
I should call them,
are,
are like better for you.
Like they're organic or,
like,
so again,
we're the only ones actually making.
And nobody's even,
no one's questioning it.
And we're the only ones making it.
We're the only ones making.
Do you make a cooling system?
So,
so I'll explain how it works and why we make it better and why it's the only way to go.
So number one is,
we don't refrigerate the,
body. Our foam technology, and we have two different versions of this, two different formulas,
allows your body heat to escape. So this is what needs to happen during your sleep cycles,
is your body heat needs to expel at the rate that it needs. And that changes every day.
Because if you had a huge day working out, working, and I see you going all over to place,
right? You're the perfect candidate for this. Well, at that, that,
night, your body will need to expel more body heat. On a day that you're meditating, I don't know if you
do that, because I see you zipping around all that. I'm not a meditator. I wish I was.
But if you have a relaxing day at the spa, if you're just taking that day unwinding, reading books,
you're not building up that hyperactivity in your body, so you won't be building as much heat.
Simple day that you may be eating a lot of red meat. You're eating a lot of red meat. Your digestive system
is working really hard.
That creates body heat.
That means your body needs to expel more heat that night.
So the body heat, your thermal regulation needs changes day after day.
It could be similar because if you have the similar habits every day, but it changes
and it changes different points in your life.
Menopause changes for women completely.
So you have a partner in bed and your thermal regulation needs may be different than the
other person.
So you're going to refrigerate yourselves at the same pace.
that doesn't make sense either.
So the key is through the sleep cycle,
let's assume it's eight hours.
And that also is different for everyone
because you're trying to achieve three,
three and a half hours of REM sleep and deep sleep.
If you can do it in five,
you can do it in five and a half,
you can do it in six is great.
The average is seven to eight
for most people to hit those numbers.
During that period there,
if your body is expelling the heat that it needs,
your central nervous system is constantly on a slowdown.
When your body temperature is on the rise,
your central nervous system becomes more active and is ramping up.
Your body knows that basically the warmest part of the day is when you're awake.
The coldest part of the night is when you're asleep.
And those are the predictions that your brain is making.
So if it's warming up, if your body temperature is on the rise,
your brain says it's time to wake up.
If your body temperatures on the decline,
your brain is saying it's time to rest and rest.
restore. So that's what we've done is allow a product that allows your body heat to expel,
naturally at the pace that it needs, constantly keeping a slowdown of your central nervous system,
which means we keep you in REM sleep and deep sleep longer and in the light sleep cycles,
because it's a cycle that's always ongoing. But if we can keep you for a shorter time in light
sleep and longer time in REM sleep, cumulatively will achieve the three, three and a half hours
of REM sleep, deep sleep in a shorter window of time. And now if you're sleeping eight hours,
well, you may be hitting even more REM sleep and deep sleep. The more you get of that,
the more physical mental recovery that you get. Okay, that's interesting. How about like brands,
I don't even if I'm allowed to just bring up these brands, but like, you know, purple and Casper,
they're all, they have no coils in them because they come in a box.
Unless you put a mattress with a coil in a box?
Yes, yes, you can.
You can?
So do those mattresses have coils?
Some of them do.
So Casper has an all-foam version, and they have a spring version, I believe.
And that one's not organic.
Neither of those brands are organic.
Neither of them are.
They're basically polyurethane foam and silicone gels.
So those are the two products that they use in their products.
and they're just chemical products.
So those are, I mean, these are like being mass, like mass used.
Is it because of price point?
It's all about price point.
It's all about price point.
And then there's also a different part of it, which is the merchandising of business, right?
So certain brands, their bread and butter is going to be their $1,000 mattress or $800
or $800 or $500 mattress.
But then they want to be part of the premium product, premium mattress.
So they use the same materials they have there.
and they make it a little fancier,
they make it a little thicker,
they put a little more tailoring on it,
and they'll have a $2,000, $3,000, $4,000,
$5,000 mattress
that's made out of the same toxic materials anyhow.
So what are they adding for a few thousand dollars more?
More of it, more of their product,
higher density levels of their product.
But more than anything else,
you're really not getting a true value of that product.
They're just using their brand power to sell that.
And that will be the uninformed shopper
that says, well, you know, I can afford more.
I'm going to buy the best that company has to offer,
but hasn't done the homework to know what's really under the sheets there.
Literally.
So are you literally the only person that's making a mattress that's non-toxic EMF protected?
So we're the only ones making these stacks.
So for example, you can buy an organic mattress.
You can buy an all-foam organic mattress and they're great products.
So if you just want to detoxify your room, those are great products as well.
They don't have the quartz in it.
They don't have the quartz in it.
They don't have the thermal regulation in it.
How do you put thermal regulation in the mattress?
That's my formula.
Oh, sorry.
Okay.
So, no, that's the formula that I developed in that.
So, again, that's, that's, that's, you know, very, that's where I like to tell people, do what you can.
If, you know, if you, one of the things is, and I'm, I'm not here.
I don't like to be pitchy.

So, so, so, but.

ourselves. Where do they mean? You don't get this up from China or wherever. No, no, no. It's all,
we pour all of this in Canada. And now we make this in Canada. You make this in Canada. And now
we just open our new facility in Boca Raton, Florida as well. So now we have our second factory. So we
make it all. We pour this. We blend this. We make it all ourselves and it's direct to consumer.
So, you know, I've been, as I've been researching this, I've been developing the product.
And instead of, you know, initially when I first started developing this, I was offering it to other
manufacturers. And I didn't like that they were misusing it. How were they using it? They were just
buying very insignificant quantities and putting it on their toxic beds and promoting the features of my
that was an insignificant quantity of their mattress.
Really? So they could just say that it was a non-toxic?
Exactly, you know, that it features this non-toxic component.
So, you know, listen, I do well.
I'm very comfortable, very happy.
I probably could be doing 100 times more if I sold out and just offered them those products.
Because it would probably, our product would probably be in every product,
but it would be misused, mishandled.
So we just stayed as a smaller company.
and offering just wellness to whoever finds us, you know.
So what would be some symptoms or things that people can, like, if they are doing everything else right,
let's say they are all their cleaning supplies or non-toxic, like I said, their cookware is non-toxic and their home.
They have an air doctor or some kind of air purifier that's, you know, helping the air.
And like, but they have not thought about the mattress.
What would be some symptoms or things that people.
would maybe like, oh, I didn't even think about checking that or changing that, that they would
maybe see in their bodies.
Well, everyone's a little different.
Everyone has different sensitivities.
Right.
Some people have intolerances to them to break out in hives.
Some people are just not sleeping as well.
One of the things I would say is start tracking your sleep.
Because if you're not, I've noticed a lot of people when I'm talking to them and I'm
coaching them through sleep and I start to understand, well, why are you looking for sleep
coaching?
There's usually a reason why somebody is, is approaching me for the sleep.
this. And it usually has to do with, I'm just not feeling well. I'm just, there's something wrong.
I don't, I don't think I'm getting to sleep I need. So usually it's, when you're not sleeping right,
you have excessive stress, anxiety. Right. We all deal with a lot in our days. Yes.
How you sleep affects not only how you deal with it, but how you walk away from it at the end of the
day. So if you, if you've slept well, you're able to take on your challenges of the day and you're
able to walk away from them at night because you've had full clarity that you've done what you can
to address your challenges of the day and you go on with your evening. When you walk into your day,
exhausted, stressed, not able to manage your thoughts, you kind of have juggled through these challenges
of the day. And at the end of the day, you're not satisfied because you know you didn't do it right.
Something is gnawing at you mentally because you didn't meet the challenge of the day to what you
feel you're capable of, a lot of it has to do it just not sleeping right. So sometimes it goes way
beyond just physical ailments. Usually only the physical ailments will people say, I need
sleep right because I have neck pain. I need sleep right because I have a back pain. Or stress and anxiety is
what I think that is a big one too. Yeah, that that is a huge life situation. Exactly. So that's,
that's what sleep is there for. But you know what though? I think also it becomes like a self-fulfilling
in prophecy. Like, if you're not sleeping well, like, this has happened to me. If I'm not sleeping
well and now, like, for like a few nights, I get really nervous that I'm going to have another
bad night's sleep. Right? It's like, oh my God. Like, you get super anxious about going to bed
because you're like, am I not going to sleep again tonight? And like you freak yourself out. And then you just
and you just have insomnia because of this like sphere of like not being able to sleep well.
So there's two things that people have to bring together. And some people think of one and not the
other or one or the other not one, but both of these things is one is sleep hygiene and one is
sleep environment. Okay. The two are really important to bring together. So sleep-
sleep hygiene is your habits, what you prepare for, your timing. Because again, it all leads
to your brain. If you go to sleep, if you go to bed at every night at 10 p.m. Say that's your
night. And you're always doing that. Well, your brain will now be able to anticipate and
predict that, okay, well, 10 o'clock's approaching, you'll start to make. And you'll start to
mentally feel ready for it as of nine o'clock, you'll notice you're actually getting
fatigue.
That's your brain preparing and slowing down because it knows, hey, you've done this for the last
10 days.
It's anticipating that tonight.
Now, you can, you know, sometimes you go out and you're partying and all that.
If you're a person that follows this routine, you'll go out for supper and now you
you haven't, you have a commitment, a social commitment.
Around that time, you're actually going to feel tired.
Yep.
And you're going to battle through it because you're out.
and you battle through it,
and now you've overcome it,
you get your second win,
and you're ready to go.
But that's a well...
Not really.
Well, in many cases,
but that's a well-trained mind,
a well-trained sleep hygiene
that's taken effect.
Now, if you keep battling through it,
you're no longer predictable.
So you'll no longer get tired at that time
because your brain no longer
recognized as that your sleep time anymore.
Maybe that's going to shift it to midnight.
And if it changes every night,
your brain can't predict anymore.
So the onset of sleep will be more challenging for you.
So hygiene is about habits and things and triggers for the mind for the onset of sleep.
So hygiene has nothing to do with the full sleep cycle.
It has more to do with falling asleep and your habits around sleep.
And sometimes it's triggered by an odor, by lighting, all those type of stimulants that can
trigger the brain knowing now is the time for me to rest and prepare for it. When I say sleep
environment, I talk more on other stimulants like the toxins, things you can't really see, the body
temperature, things that are going to keep you asleep and make the best quality sleep for that whole
duration. And that's, to me, probably the most important part because that's true recovery happens.
So sleep environment would be things such as everything in that room that could be
I include light in that as well.
So when I say environment,
the reason why have I focused so much on the mattress?
Because that's the biggest problem in the bedroom.
Yeah.
In every case,
that's where most of the toxins come out.
That's where most people's mattresses and antenna to EMFs.
They have adjustable beds that are plugged into the wall
and have you more EMF currents coming from it.
Those are the ones that trap heat.
So if they're not trapping heat because they're polyester
and they're fully synthetic and you're sweat,
in bed or you're cranking up or cranking down, I should say the room temperature.
But now if your if your room is cold, your body's hot and your mattress is plastic,
you're just going to be sweating and swimming in your own sweat.
That's not a proper way to sleep.
That's not going to keep you asleep and keep you in the proper sleep cycles.
So there's so much that happens to that mattress.
And that's where when I really, almost everything I do leads back to the mattress.
And that's how it's been over the last 20 years.
That's the biggest point of.
contact in your bedroom that makes all the difference.
So that's, yeah, that makes sense to me.
Like, that's the, so that's sleep environment, obviously.

I thought the biggest one is how to sleep cold.

How about putting your thermostat?
to like to 67 or 66.
That's great for the onset of sleep.
Right.
So the onset of sleep because that, you know,
starting off cool.
But again, if you're not on the right surface,
you're not going to stay cold.
So, so, and there's two methods of,
of cooling down that the companies use.
It's mechanical or chemical.
If you go to the chemical route,
you'll feel cool,
but you'll,
you won't sleep well.
You'll be chasing the cold
because you need that chemical reaction to happen.
Yeah.
And that chem,
every day that chemical reaction happens, your body's defenses have to go up. So your central
nervous system has to activate to defend itself from the chemicals that are emitting from it.
The other way is mechanical where you have companies that are making sleep pads that plug into the
wall and they basically, it's a microplumbing system that will have cool down water running
through these micro tubes. Yeah. Two things there. That's a synthetic product. So again,
introduces toxins. Number two, it's an electronic product. And number three, it doesn't allow
your body heat to escape. It's refrigerating you. That's not what you're really going for. You want
your body heat to expel and not that you're chilling it down. Yeah, I like the way you just explained
it better. That was a really good way of putting it because if you're plugging it in, you're right,
you're getting the electricity part. Yeah. And you're also getting the toxins. Correct. Yeah. And you're
not, you're not, you're not cooling down kind of naturally is what you're saying. Yeah.

You know, we forget anything.
There's so much to talk about, but at the same time.
Is there something I missed?
No, you know, again, on the more traditional side, we touch the topics that there will be,
but most people look for a mattress when they have pain points.
So now pain points is something else where high density material, high elasticity material,
is needed for proper posture support, for proper.
Oh, yeah, we didn't even talk about that, which is the most traditional thing.
Oh, my God.
That's hilarious.
We're just only talking about the, like, wellness part.
Oh, my, sorry.

It's so true.
And I basically discovered this a long,
a long time ago is that the whole industry has worked it the wrong way.
And they only did it for dollar and cents reasons.
So the way a mattress is built is you have the lowest density item at the surface.
Okay.
So the lowest density eye will often be a fiber pillow top.
What happens with a lowest density fiber is it's all air.
So when you have fluff and air, when you get on the first time you use the bed,
feels, oh, this is so nice because it just absorbed you in.
But it's actually giving you support.
So because that fluff is not there for support.
Oh, yes.
I'm so glad that we didn't forget about this.
So you need high density, but high elasticity.
Because if it's just high density, it's hard as a rock, it doesn't contour it to your body.
So high density, high elasticity.
Again, the opposite of what that industry is doing is they're putting the fluff on top.
And then they'll put low density foams so that it continues to have the cushioning.
Two things that's wrong with that, you're actually not getting the physical support you need.
So people who are fit and are used to this, they realize immediately that that's not the support they need.
And that's an easy fix going into a high density surface product.
But the other issue is they're not long lasting because they're low density.
They break down really quickly.
And another problem is people make these huge investments in mattresses.
And then by year two, year three, it's not performing the same way.
They only change it after eight to ten years because once you've made that investment,
you're not about to change it after two years, three years.
But yet they're no longer sleeping well because the fact that they're not getting that support
through a high-density product, they're sacrificing the quality of their sleep for an additional
five or six years until they decide to make another investment again.
So those are kind of things to be careful on.
Like sometimes you're not putting in the right investment into sleep,
but you're just not getting good sleep and you'll have to change it sooner than later.
So what about like a mattress, like the pillow top mattress, right?
I think those are very popular.
I used to have one.
So what is that then?
That's not a good, that's not a good choice for people who are, what, active or?
It's technically not a good choice for anyone unless you're so lightweight, you know,
that you're not really, it's not making.
such a big difference on it.
Because why then?
Give me the top.
So,
so,
so,
so,
so,
and so when,
where I say the fitness makes a difference
just because you,
you,
you don't need to be heavy to be dense.
So a person who is,
has high muscle mass.
Yeah.
It's going to be heavier concentrated weight than,
so,
so, so a person,
100 pounds of muscle will penetrate through these low density areas and not give you
the support you need.
Oh,
interesting.
So,
so,
so,
to be, to crush the material, you don't need to be 300 pounds. But it's, it's that concentration and
density of your body that will crush that weight. Exactly. So, so ultimately, a very fit person
needs to have high density, resilience supporting it and high flexibility, resilience,
contouring the body. So that, for a fit person, it's critical to be on a high density product.
If you have a low back, low back issue, like, I have, like, I mean, I don't know, I have,
Now, I just got, I don't know, I have like sciatica now on the right side. I think too much activity. Does it matter if I'm sleeping on a, is it better to sleep on a high density mattress? Yes, you need it, especially because the high density, you know, I add the high elasticity because if you're sleeping on a hard bed, you're not going to cover your curves and contours. So that product needs to fill that zero, that negative space in your lower back. It needs to completely contour that with.
without putting pressure on you.
That's where the elasticity comes in and the contour comes in.
If you're filling up that contour with fluff,
it's not actually supporting the lower back.
It's straining your lower back because there's nothing there that's really holding it up properly.
Right, right, right, right.
So that's where, you know, that's where the product that I developed is quite heavy.
Very heavy.
Yeah.
So, so, yeah, you experienced their extremely heavy badges.
I couldn't believe how heavy this mattress was.
You know, the really weird thing is, it's probably.
thinner than any other mattress you've had. So it's probably, it's super dense. It has half,
half the height yet twice the weight in it. That's the concentration of materials that are there
are all high quality, high elasticity, specifically for posture support. But what for posture
support? So what happens if people, though, like that's why they make all these mattresses. They make
some for their firm, they make ones that are soft, they make, because everyone has a different preference.
So are you just turning off a lot of people because they're just naturally?
Because that's how people have been trained to buy by comfort preferences.
I remember I was with one of the owners of a hockey club, which was kind of cool.
Which one?
Now we're talking about Canada again.
So it was a Montreal Canadians.
Of course, Montreal Canadians.
Of course.
So we had gone and I'd done some sleep coaching with the players.
And on the second visit, he wanted to know a little bit more.
I was vetted by the training team and all that kind of stuff.
Actually, I had to sit down with all the VPs and make sure what we were presenting was,
was something that they approved of.
And basically the owner said, you know, like I'd like to come by and see this.
So, so he came by our office just outside of Montreal.
And he came, he looked and he goes, all right.
So, you know, how do I choose a mattress?
Because we do have a range of models, in there are six models all together.
and I go, you know, I told them you don't choose a mattress.
The mattress chooses you.
Because comfort comes from being well supported.
All the mattresses we make are comfortable just because we don't make fluff.
So there's a purpose.
Yeah, yeah.
There's purpose behind every single one that we make.
So I look at someone's posture and tell them what they need.
And then so that that's the match.
If I'm supporting your body as you should,
will be comfortable.
Oh, that's so interesting.
Okay, so what is the most popular,
like what is, by the way, in general,
the most popular type of mattress
in terms of like support just for curiosity.
Well, most people like to be in a softer mattress.
They do?
Oh, they don't like firm.
They don't like firm because the wrong firm
because of lower back pain.
So a lot of people who like firm,
they typically have a flat back.
And if they have a flat back,
they've had the best life experiences on a firm mattress
because what happens when you have a flat back
is your weight distribution is all in your lumbar area.
The flatter your back, so if you have a pronounced curve,
your weight distribution goes to your shoulders.
So someone with a flat back has likely had bad experiences on soft beds
because they'll hammock inside it because that's where their concentration weight is.
That just means that they've been on low density mattresses,
bad experiences, and they come in there swearing,
I need a firm bed.
No, you need a quality bed.
You need high elasticity, high density product.
That won't happen no matter what type of posture that you have.
That's kind of the difference.
So when you go to a regular mattress store, it's soft, medium, firm.
The reason there's a medium and soft medium is because when unsure consumers go into a store,
what do they think they do?
They go with medium.
Yeah.
I'm not sure if I'm a soft, not sure if I'm a firm, I'll go at a medium.
That's what I did.
So that's why the medium exists.
Yes.
I bet you it sells the best, does it?
It does.
Well, we don't sell those, but I'm just saying statistically in the industry,
the medium was what sells best, right?
Usually lean towards a medium or soft, and then the flat back individuals will go with the firm
every single dime.
Again, that's from their own mental experiences that they had bad sleep on soft beds.
You know, with us at Ascentia, we've done this.
completely different. The only time you're choosing a different mattress is how seriously do you take
sleep? You know, when I started the company... Are they all firm, though? They're all high density,
high elasticity. Okay, high density. So why is that difference? Because, you know, when you, when you
vertically touch the bed, if you put your hand on it and your fists on it, it's going to seem like it's
soft. When you're horizontal on it, you're going to realize, oh, it's actually not soft because that
density is there. That elasticity is there when you're, you know, a lot of people like to kind of do
a fist check. Yeah, yeah, yeah. They'll pump into the mattress. Oh, this is too soft or this is too
firm. That actually is not the right test. You need to lay down horizontally to know if it's
supporting your body. How do people try one out? Like one thing about going to get like, like I never
understood why people order these, you know, box mattresses because how do you know if you like it?
What if you want to return it? Like, you know, I use George.
because so many my, like so many people told me,
like a few people told me they were using it.
It was really good.
So I took a chance and you guys return it.
If you said you guys returned it.
But like if someone wants to try it, what did they do?
So I mean, right now, the way to, the way I know to buy a mattress is you buy it by spec and by quality and all that.
So, so if you're buying it right, you don't need to try it.
Now that, that, that's, you know, fortunately 20 years in, we've built that reputation and we're fine with that.
most people are disappointed with what they buy sight and seeing.
So you don't get a lot of returns.
We don't get a lot of returns.
Just because one is like I mentioned.
They can pack it up again.
It's so heavy.
Like I'll fuck it.
I'll just keep it.
No.
It's so heavy.
We offer that 120 days.
But what ends up happening is when they get on it, they realize they're on a,
on a quality product and feel well supported.
And they're all comfortable.
When I say how seriously you take your sleep is that, you know,
our most expensive product has a higher level of thermal.
It has features on it that you can't feel.
So the REM 9 has the best results in REM sleep and deep sleep because of the thermal regulation
because of the responsiveness.
But it's just as comfortable as our REM 5.
The REM 5 has 5 degrees of thermal regulations instead of 9.
What's the difference?
So the ability for your body heat to escape faster.
So it's a formula change that we have.
So on the REM 5, it's not, doesn't have the same.
capacity as the nine. When you get on the bed, they're both comfortable. They both feel great.
They actually feel quite similar. But it's the we know the difference in your REM sleep. That's how
we know. So it's as I say, how seriously they take a sheet. But there's a huge, a substantial price
difference and cost difference from when we go to our REM5 formulas or our REM9 formula. Why? Because of the
essential oils that are used and essential oils are extremely expensive. So, so those essential oils. And just
recently about I guess it's been 18 months ago we were approached by the military to try to
overcome a problem that they had with overcoming mold issue in barracks so I was brought in
just as an advisor to sit on a panel to talk about you know what materials can overcome this so
our product was already quite mold resistant you know and mold resistant you got to be careful
with the words because those are external spores that get onto a
product and they just multiply, right? More so on a synthetic product than the organic rubber product.
So what I did then is our unique process includes essential oils in there. And I converted
all of our essential oils or higher acidity level essential oil. And then we were able to test in labs
that, wow, those mold spores were not growing anymore. In some cases, they were retracting.
So they were dying off. So the mold was not.
growing as quickly. So what we ended up doing is, just about a year ago, after all that testing,
I changed all of my formula to have a high acidity level to make sure that the mattresses
can resist mold as much as possible. Oh, that's amazing too. Yeah. Yeah, that's, again,
that's something else that there's so many details that we get really into the little obsession.
This is so amazing. By the way, I never in a million years ever thought I was speaking about a mattress
for over an hour.
Like, this is not what I would ever expect.
Like, I mean, like, it's so, it's like such a arbitrary thing to think, oh, we're going
to be talking about mattresses.
But I'm learning so much.
So.
But you see the problem is every salesman in a mattress store can't invest an hour with each
customer.
So they just refer to do you want, what's your preference?
Small, you know, soft, medium firm.
Exactly.
Simple.
Simple.
Have a nice day.
Exactly.
So then what makes a mattress that soft medium for like C Lee or any of these big mattress companies,
I don't know, whatever, like when they're charging a ton of money for a mattress,
again, it's the same materials, but they put more of it, basically, right?
You'll have a thicker one.
You'll have a lot of it'll be the tailoring.
There's some mattresses out there that are, you know, some organic mattresses that are charging
20, 30, 50,000, $50,000 for mattresses like you're really.
really some, some crazy numbers out there.
But they're not giving you, they're not giving you the sleep performance.
You're getting, you're getting materials that are not toxic, which is great.
But it's just one element.
You're not doing the mold. You're not doing the mold.
You're not doing the thermal regulation.
You're not doing the EMFs.
The ports.
And the ports is the EMFs.
Exactly.
Is there anything else that you're doing that's different?
