A wonderful couple who came up with a product called Keen Habitawair. Hi guys! I'm about to cry right now.
Starting point is 00:01:22 This is so amazing to get to meet you. Thank you for having us. Well, let's talk about it. How did you guys come up with this idea? Because it's quite frankly pretty revolutionary. So I pull out my hair, and that is medically known as Trico-Tillomania, which is one of these body-focused repetitive behaviors.
Starting point is 00:01:41 And middle school started pulling as a coping mechanism for just being stressed at school. And that was the way my body was providing satisfaction and relief of the pain that I was feeling. And then by senior year of high school, my father had passed away. And so it was four years of just hiding that struggle. Are you telling me that no one knew you were in this emotional pain
Starting point is 00:02:04 and that you were pulling your hair out? It's just that stuff you talk about. And it was a very automatic, trans-like behavior that became a habit. I thought I was weird and alone, so I hid it from my friends and family. You were married at the time, right? Did your husband even know this was happening? A few years ago, Samir, who is also my husband, as well as Habitou night of massive amounts of pulling out my eyebrows. That was probably the first time that I really shared with Samir that I had this condition.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Okay, so let's bring in Samir because my first question is, how the hell did it take you three years to notice your beautiful bride pull that or eyebrows? That is a question. I don't know if I'll ever have a good answer to Marcus. You know, I think it does go to show the links to which people will have learned to cover these behaviors up. A neola, talk to me about the technology and how it actually works and how you brought it to market. What was the first idea? Really the idea came to us as I was sitting on the couch pulling out my hair. Some of you knew about the disorder at that point.
Starting point is 00:03:17 Gently grabbed my hand and that was sort of that aha moment of, oh, if I knew I was pulling out my hair, then maybe I could stop. And so before we did anything else, we wanted to actually test that hypothesis a little more. So I started wearing a slap bracelet with jingle bells on it. Then we decided to move into creating something a little more technical. And just started asking around if anyone could help with building hardware and software, and that's how we met our team who helped us really create the bracelet.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I want to bring one of my very dear friends on who I think is a perfect person to give us some insight. And I know I'm super excited. So I want to bring on my dear, dear friend, Howie Mandel. And why do you look shocked? Hi. How are you? It's crazy. How are you? Thank you. Nice to meet you. How are you? And Nila, why do you look shocked? Hi, I have a week. It's crazy.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Thank you. Nice to meet you. Nice to meet you. How are you? I'm doing great. How are you, Paul? Greatest can be expected. Like, I'm doing as well as everybody, I think.
Starting point is 00:04:16 So I want to introduce you to what I think is a really cool company. It's called Keen by Habit Aware. And Anila, who came up with the idea, is just trying to solve it. So Anila, remember our elevator pitch that we practiced? You're gonna try giving Howie the elevator pitch. So keen by habit-aware is a smart bracelet that brings awareness to debilitating mental health conditions,
Starting point is 00:04:39 things like compulsive hair pulling, compulsive skin picking, and compulsive nail biting. And with awareness, that person that's wearing the bracelet now has the power to actually choose healthier strategies and change their life. That was kick ass. Can I just say something right away? Congratulations, it's a wonderful thing.
Starting point is 00:04:55 I don't know if you know that much about me, but my soapbox is mental health. And mental health awareness and taking care of our mental health and removing the stigma and talking about it. So first of all, thank you for being an advocate for that.
