Starting point is 00:00:00 This episode is sponsored by Gray Toad Tallow, pure and natural nourishment for all skin types. In this final episode of the graveyard shift, we hear from a law enforcement officer who visited a witch's house and saw a shadow man that was possessing the house and haunting her. Anybody in law enforcement, you start digging. They have crazy stories. We've never seen the guy. We just see them like darting around the corner. Dude. We got a code blue. We got to run. She's calling us screaming, freaking out on the phone, like lots of weird stuff. She's saying weird stuff. Also, just a heads up, she's saying someone broke into the house. She kind of like peeks up at me and then just sits there. We're here to help. Is everything okay in the house? And she's like, no. Where's your mom? Who's got your
Starting point is 00:00:46 mom? Your mom's in your truck. Can your mom fit in your truck? Do you have room for your mom? Your mom's on fire. Oh, no. Hey, everybody. Welcome to this final installment of this chunk of the the Hana Cosmos Graveyard Shift. We're very excited to have you all back. I'm really glad to to be here on this beautiful morning. I am glad to be here with my co-host and friend Brian Sovay. So good to be here, Ben. Thanks for having me. You're welcome. On this podcast. Yes, on my podcast. And Brian and I both, I will speak for you when I say that we're also thrilled to have our final guest with us whose name is Ray. Ray, do you want to introduce yourself to the people? Howdy? I'm Ray. Some of you guys might know me from Out of the Graves. Yes. Make music here at
Starting point is 00:01:37 NCP, do the catechism stuff with Brian. But what a lot of people might not know from social media is that I have a full-time job. I'm actually a police officer, currently a detective. So I think we're here to talk about some of that. Yeah. Yeah. The thing about anybody in law enforcement, I've heard stories from prison guards to, you know, sheriff, highway patrol, detect, like anybody in law enforcement, you start digging.
Starting point is 00:02:07 They have crazy stories. And not all of them are just like normal stories. Like a guy's wigged out on something. And my theory is that law enforcement constantly has to interact with like the most difficult population of any area constantly. Yeah. All the time. They're always on the threshold of strangeness. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:02:24 Especially when you're in kind of Mormon land and you're in cult land, there's going to be even more of the spiritual side of things, I think, I would expect. So that's, that in itself could be a very interesting. wrinkle to disease. But before we get into the stories, Ray, what do you think about Hanna Cosmos? Do you ever listen to the show? You can be honest. Everyone's, no, I do listen.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Okay. Yeah, I've listened to every episode. Something that we have, I don't know why we do this, because it makes us seem very self-centered and arrogant, but we, we're doing it. But we do it anyway. Yeah, what is your favorite Hanna Cosmos episode? Do you have one?
Starting point is 00:03:00 Honestly, I think it was probably the, like, multi-parter on Skinwalker Ranch. Oh, Skinwalker Ranch. Yes. It's hard to be. It's great. That is, it'll go down in history. That and Mothman. Evergreen. Just some of my favorite multi-part. I like the Mothman a lot.
Starting point is 00:03:16 I think that one just, I think it was really well done. I've just listened to so much on the Mothman because I grew up not far from there. And so I've listened to so much on the Mothman, I was like, it wasn't a lot of new info, but it was really well done. Are you the Mothman? First question. Are you the Mothman? Is this being recorded? I can make sure we get conjunctive by this.
Starting point is 00:03:36 The camera is cut out. Like we found him. Yeah. You know, I really love the Mothman episodes. They're probably my favorite. Here's the problem, though. Okay. Episode two.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Okay. Episode two and three. If that was our peak, so early, I'm going to be bummed. Most people would say episode one was our peak. And I'm like, come on. That means it was literally all downhill from Joe Street. Yeah, we started at the top of Everest and we just tumble our way. We've been slowly crawling down the mountain.
Starting point is 00:04:05 I think places you should go is number one. you shouldn't go. You shouldn't go. Anyway. Definitely, dude. Yeah. Definitely. Well, guys, we do hope that you've been enjoying this graveyard shift concept.
Starting point is 00:04:19 I just want to plug this again. If you like what we've been doing here in the month of October, let us know because we will do it again if you enjoy it. And we did set up an email stories at the hauntedcosmos.com. And you can send in your story to us. and we if we do this again, we might have you call in or have your story featured on the show.
Starting point is 00:04:42 So definitely send that in. Or if you can come to our basement and be in the studio completely like you will pay all expenses. All expenses pay trip to the studio, buy you. Unless you're a very special person. Unless you are like President Trump, I'd like to address you directly right now.
Starting point is 00:05:01 No, he's paying. Yeah, he can afford it. He's paying. But we would have you. But if you're like one of President Trump's aides. He's like, all expenses paid, like the Secret Service too. It's like a billion dollars. All right.
Starting point is 00:05:14 We would love to hear your story. Send him in. Yeah, please do. But with that said, anything else before we jump in? No, I think I really want to hear from Ray. Yeah, I do. I've kind of like. We've heard from us.
Starting point is 00:05:25 Heard a little bits and pieces. Yeah, we have. Let's be honest. We've heard from us. I've heard some bits and pieces of this from Ray. And so I'm excited to just dive in. Yeah. It sounds like you've got a couple stories potentially that experience.
Starting point is 00:05:35 So basically what we're going to do is just say, however pace, whatever order you want to go, let us know. We'll try not to interrupt you too much. And then we'll talk about it. Maybe have questions at the end. We'll do our very best not to interrupt. Yeah, Ben, then struggles. Well, if something, if you tee us up for some really funny joke, no promises, but we'll try. Okay. Actually, um, before I even begin, I think you guys will appreciate this. So in the investigations unit that I'm a part of right now, we have, literally just like a stack of of toolboxes that you hook together, but it's all of our evidence collection. So if we serve a or torn on a house or something, we bring it with you,
Starting point is 00:06:12 it's called your mom. Really? No way. It's the, uh, hold on. Let me see if I can remember. It's the urban evidence recovery management operations module. Someone knew what they were doing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Dude, someone knew what they were doing. Oh yeah. Someone is our guy. And it's over the air, you know, hey, where's your mom? Who's got your mom? Your mom's in your truck. Hey, can your mom fit in your truck? Do you have room for your mom?
Starting point is 00:06:33 Your mom's on fire. Oh, no. Dude, we need your mom's stat. Your mom's been stolen. Your mom, everything's compromising. Your mom is gone. That is, thank you for sharing that. That's amazing.
Starting point is 00:06:45 I welcome. Thanks for coming on. It's been great. This was the whole thing. Honokosmos signing off. We just brought him on for that. Hope you guys enjoyed. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Wow. Thank you. Hey, Ben. I just read that our great grandparents probably experimented with butter on their dry skin as a moisturizer. Is that why you look so radiant? Maybe it's grandma's butter recipe, or maybe it's gray to toad tallow.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Their tallow products are 100% organic and naturally contain the good stuff your skin craves. No mystery there. So say Sianara, Sammy, to kitchen experiments and say hello to healthier skin. Gratottoe tallow, trusted by skin, envied by great grandma's butter recipe. For more information and to get a sample pack, check out graytoed tallow.com. Don't forget to use the code Cosmos 15. That's all caps, Cosmos 1-5 for 15% off your order. Brian, I got bad news.
Starting point is 00:07:46 The other day, I was using one of the big box soap products to wash myself, and I got this weird urge to go buy a Stanley cup and fill it with iced coffee. And it started to feel a little cold in the house. I just wanted to wrap myself up in like a heavy wool blanket. And then also, I started Googling ticket prices to Taylor Swift concert. Ben, what are you doing? Don't you know that these big box soap companies just jam all their soaps full of hormone-disrupting chemicals? They're probably turning you into a girl. Well, I know that now, but what am I supposed to do about it? Ben, you ignorant normie,
Starting point is 00:08:19 all you've needed to do is go to Indigo sundry soap.com and support a great Christian family business that's making all sorts of soaps that are completely free of hormone disrupting chemicals and other nasties. Okay, I am literally going to Indigo sundrysoap.com right now. Tell me what to buy. Ben, what I would recommend doing is clicking on bundles and then selecting the best one for you. You could get the men's six-pack. You could get my favorite, the clay bundle. Ooh, I like the pipe and jug bundle. That seems cool.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Or a men-six-pack, because that'll make me feel like I have something that I actually don't. So true, King. And you know what else I heard? Because they're such good friends of the show, Indigo Sundry's soap company is offering 10% off your order. If you just use all caps, discount code, haunted cosmos, no spaces. Wait, Brian, you're going way too fast. I didn't get all that. Is that information in the show description?
Starting point is 00:09:09 Ben, you ignorant normie, it's always in the show description. Okay, so I'm going to go to indigo sundry soap.com. I'm going to pick the men's six-pack bundle, and I'm going to use code Haunted Cosmos at checkout, all caps, no spaces. And if I forgot all that, it's in the description of the show. Of course, Ben, and if you just do that, then you will stop wanting to do all of those girly things and maybe you'll, I don't know, maybe want to buy a classic car to restore or something dignified. The nighttime is crawling with dangerous creatures.
Starting point is 00:09:39 Bigfoot, sleep paralysis demons, the moth man. Now imagine what would make them even more terrifying. That's right, guns. Cryptids with guns. That's where Armored Republic comes in. They equip law-abiding citizens to stand against the unthinkable, even if it's a gun-wielding devil-worshipping Bigfoot. From combat-tested coatings to high-performance carriers,
Starting point is 00:10:03 every piece of their ballistic armor and tactical gear, is built to protect. Visit armored republic.com or text join all caps J-O-I-N to 88027 to get involved in the preparedness effort. Man, Ben, I knew we were handsome, but I didn't know we were that handsome until I saw our recent Honed Cosmos thumbnails. Yeah, your skin looks so velvety smooth. I mean, it's unbelievable. Chris at New Dominion Design Company did an absolutely fantastic job not only on those thumbnails, but on our recent book cover as well. Yeah, exactly. And if you need some design work from Chris,
Starting point is 00:10:43 you should go to new dominion design code.com, get started there and he'll serve you right. Man, he will make you look 50% as handsome as Ben guaranteed. Yeah, there's a lot of strangeness that you encounter. And I mean, some of it is like, is it drugs? Is it demons? I don't know, probably both. Yeah, the one they go handed.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Do I repeat myself? Yeah. You know, because I've had a handful of encounters, whether it's like making an arrest or even for the brief time that I worked in the jail. Some of the behaviors, people changing voices, kind of going nuts, that kind of thing. But yeah, a couple of the encounters that really stand out to me. You know, I've had a couple interesting ones with Mormon churches. Working graves, you know, you get called out to a lot of burglarms, possible, you know, possible burglaries, that kind of thing.
Starting point is 00:11:44 So, like I had one actually not far from my house. The maintenance guy called in. It was a Mormon church. I think someone was like locking up after an event called maintenance and was like, hey, I think someone's in the building. Maintenance guy shows up. He's like, hey, there's no one here. And then right as he's going to like lock the last door, a door slams inside.
Starting point is 00:12:03 So he calls us, we go in, clear the building. Buildings empty. So that, I mean, like that kind of stuff I think happens pretty frequently. Can I just say? I know what I say. Can I just say, you know, you're saying like you're working graves. but now as a detective, you've been called out of the graves.
Starting point is 00:12:23 Out of the grave. That's crazy. Into the graveyard shift. Yes. So we're full circle. Also, while we're interrupting you. I served, you know, I worked as a church janitor for years in my young adulthood,
Starting point is 00:12:37 like early in our, not our marriage, but my marriage to my wife. Yes. And it is one of the freakyest jobs to be just like, it was like 100,000 square foot facility that I worked at. and we would, you know, have to lock up. You're the last guy there.
Starting point is 00:12:52 What you just described is nightmare fuel. Oh, dude. This was before I carried a device, which you two doesn't like us to speak about. A blood force trauma device. Attached to my person. I was too young at the time, even I was like 18 or something. Yeah. So nightmare fuel, but go on.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Dude, just on that point, while we're still interrupting you, I was also a church janitor for some years. Are you really? At this church. effectively. Basically. Effectively. Yeah, more or less. Now much smaller, but like old, very creepy. And dude, I remember I would have challenges with myself where Psalm sing in the wintertime. You're closing up down in the basement and you got to walk up that, dude. And there's like those. There's the door. There's the dungeon door behind you. And I'm like there's a being crawling out of that. And there was like. And so it was always like, don't run up the stairs. And it was like a church with lady pastors before us. So the demons were everywhere. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Anyway, so Ray, story number two. No.
Starting point is 00:13:51 There was another time we got called out to another Mormon church and this one kind of came in a little bit hot like it was a burg in progress we have suspects in the building kind of a thing.
Starting point is 00:14:00 So a handful of us show up and we start talking to some people and it was like a bunch of kids and they were like yeah we walked out and then we came back and the door was locked and so we're like okay so did you just lock the door
Starting point is 00:14:13 how do you know someone's in there they're like no we called the janitor or like the maintenance guy. The maintenance guy called you and said there's someone in the building. So we go in, the maintenance guy ended up taking forever to get there and someone showed up with like a key for the basketball game or something. So we go in and I mean, this is like, okay, we're going in. We go in as the unit. We've got guns out where we clear the whole building. We go through the whole thing,
Starting point is 00:14:35 top to bottom, completely empty, no signs of anyone being inside, anything like that. So as we're kind of finishing up, the maintenance guy shows up. So we start questioning him. We're like, hey man, why did you call this in his active berg in progress like what's going on he's like well no this has been going on for a while i think someone lives in the building oh um because we've been doing a bunch of like remodeling and maintenance projects and so um you know me and my guys like we frequently have incidents where people are stealing our tools um doors are being locked on us or like we'll see he's like we've never seen the guy we just see him like darting around the corner dude you know we'll see that and um nope yep and so he's kind of like walking us through. So we go back through the building now with the maintenance guy. We're like,
Starting point is 00:15:18 look, we've already cleared this thing top to bottom, like, you know, walk us through it. And it's funny because we go in this little room. And Mormon churches are kind of strange. Like they're very different. And they have like little sanctuaries and they have bigger sanctuary rooms and, you know, all the classrooms. And the walls are always very bland and kind of, you know. It's like the back rooms. Yeah. Yeah, kind of. But he took us into this one room. And we are already been there. It was like kind of what you'd imagine a church sanctuary, but like really small. And it was like a little, this little chapel, there was a pulpit, there was a stage, there was a choir loft, and then there were pews. And I just remember like going,
Starting point is 00:15:59 I was just walking back through the room at one point. And I found a little toolbox. And it's, as he's like, describing seeing someone dart around the corner or that kind of thing. He's like, we'll come in, we'll lock all the doors. And then someone will like dart around corners. Our tools will start disappearing or they'll appear in rooms where we haven't been. and then as I'm walking, I found like a box of drill bits. And I picked it up and I was like, oh, are you guys doing work in this room? He's like, no, we don't come in here. I was like, okay, well, I just found this on the floor and he grabs it.
Starting point is 00:16:25 And he's like, this came out of my truck. It's like this. I don't even use this in here. Like it has my name on it. It came out of my truck. Dude, what the heck? Like the truck that he drove there that night. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:35 Yeah. Oh, come on. Do you think that that like, this is Skinwalker Ranch stuff. Well, okay, poltergeist. Yeah, like when he stole, he had the post hole. Yeah, yeah, yeah. tool? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:45 And he's putting the fence post in and it weighs like 80 pounds. What happened with multiple of his tools but that was, and he finds it in a tree like 80 yards off the ground. Yeah. 80 yards off the,
Starting point is 00:16:54 it was huge. It was way high. Massive tree. Yeah, like 80 feet. Holy cow. Dude, I tried to go metric. It's 80 pounds and it's 80 yards. Dude, it's yards even metric or it's meters metric.
Starting point is 00:17:05 Yards and feet are English. It's imperial. So I did, I still did imperial. No, you did. Isn't imperial English? Yeah. No. And then metric is.
Starting point is 00:17:16 I think metric is. Look it up, guys. I'm correct about this. Vindicate me in the comments. You probably are. Like, that's crazy. Could be a squatter though. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:24 It could be, I mean, at that point, we checked the building. I mean, we even went, this particular building had a flat roof and then later a peaked roof was added on. So their attic space was a rooftop. Yeah. And so we even, I mean, we went through the roof access. We walked the roof. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:42 We went through. they have all of their, at least in this building, all of their air conditioning units and air handlers and stuff are in like tunnels under the building. And actually that little like chapel where I found the toolbox, the access was there, like on the stage. It was like a trap door.
Starting point is 00:18:01 And come on. It's like a fan of the opera stone. Well, this is like right around the same time that the like Jewish tunnel thing in New York. Okay. So you're thinking, well, me of my buddy's like we go funneled up. The tunnels are speaking Yiddish.
Starting point is 00:18:14 Into the Mormon church. But we, yeah, I mean, we even went in there. We crawled through a bunch of tunnels, like, nothing. No camping gear. That's crazy. So it was definitely a poltergras. Did you hear like in the distance in the tunnels like, Shama, yes.
Starting point is 00:18:32 You're like, we got a code blue. We got to run. Nothing to see here, guys. That's the point where I just go, la, la, la, la. I hear nothing. Did you ever see that video of the guy who, like, he kept thinking that food was being stolen out of this bridge. And he was like, am I sleepwalking or something?
Starting point is 00:18:49 Because he would find the food in the trash can. So he's like, am I eating it and forgetting? So he set up a camera in his kitchen. And he went to bed. And then, like, hours later, the creepiest looking woman. Yes. Crawls out of his air vent, like Russian style whatever. Like the grudge.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Yeah, like the grudge. And they can like contort them like a contortionist. Yeah. That's the word I'm looking for. Like a small, grudgy contortionist, and she's, like, standing there and she's feeling around with her feet to, like, find the way down. She has it, I mean, dialed. And then when she gets to the fridge, she just opens it up and starts pounding the milk. Like, like, kind of as far as having people secretly living in your house, like one of the milder things for them to do.
Starting point is 00:19:36 Right. But still, like, I want you to put yourself in that guy's shoes. Dude, the milk. Okay. And the next day, you take the camera down and you look up at that vent, there's just, that would be. So anyway, I started blast. That would be terrifying.
Starting point is 00:19:51 They're resisting. No, man, that's crazy. The fact that you all went and like looked at the roof, looked in the tunnels, and there was still nothing. Yeah. Not even any like gear laying. That's like shadow people. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Because it's always the periphery. Yeah. Okay. Wow. So you just tell them like, good luck. Yeah. We're just like, all right, man, we didn't find anything. have a good night.
Starting point is 00:20:11 We literally walked out. And the guy that I was with, like, is not a Christian or anything. And he just looks at me and he's like, it's demons. It's demons. And I just looked at him. I was like, it is. I mean, it would be the place for it, a Mormon church. Like, demons like it there.
Starting point is 00:20:24 So. And all of our Mormon listeners. We've made our position very clear. Email us and we'll talk. We'll talk. Anyway. Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 00:20:35 So were those the same incident? Like, those were two different. That was different buildings, different nights, different. I think those were probably almost a year apart. Yeah, that's crazy. I used to be the maintenance guy that they would call the alarm company when the alarm was going up. It was always because someone had a key that shouldn't and they just opened it and didn't know the code. But it was always like 10 o'clock at night, 11 o'clock at night.
Starting point is 00:20:59 And I'm like, I'm 18. I have no what am I going to do? Dude, one time you texted me at 3.30 in the morning. Okay. And I happened to be peeing. And it was a Sunday morning. It was a Sunday morning. And I looked at my phone and your text said, the neighbors are telling me that the lights in the church are flickering on and off really quick. Can you go check it out? Did I really? Yeah. I was so real. And I was like,
Starting point is 00:21:25 sure. You said yes. So I came here at like 4 a.m. And I'm so glad no one looked at the cameras because I was like I had my weapon drawn and I was terrified. I was looking around course like, you were like John Wick. You were like, you full. Yeah. I did like so many press checks. How many did you? Is it still loaded? Did you, how many people did you?
Starting point is 00:21:52 None. None. Officially. I am so sorry. What happened was I bet I was actually in process of writing the sermon. Oh yeah. I'm sure you were. Because that is the only reason I would have been up at that time.
Starting point is 00:22:04 So. All right. Wow. thank you for sharing that. We're not doing good with our problems. But wait, there's more. Yeah, I do have another story for you guys. This is,
Starting point is 00:22:13 this, it's kind of been building. Okay. Yeah. This is the, let's go. Yeah, no,
Starting point is 00:22:17 this one was pretty gnarly. This was just the amuse bouch. We won't interrupt you. That's okay. This is just the amuse bush. He's using creepy French. I was just always wanted to say French type stuff. Any of my psych fans out there,
Starting point is 00:22:37 put in the comments, what I'm referencing when I say that was just the Hmoosh. Okay. Go ahead. So pretty early on in my career, I was like maybe just a couple months off of training. Because when you become a cop, you go through like, you go through the academy, which is like six months. And then you go through usually like three to four months of on the job training,
Starting point is 00:22:56 where you're actually answering 911 calls. You're out there, but you're partnered up with someone. Yeah. So I was like a few months off of that. I just remember it was the wintertime, probably like February, March around here. and I got this weird call. It was right at the end of the day. Because I was on day shift at this time,
Starting point is 00:23:15 but the call came in at like 5.30 or something, our shift ended at 6. So I get dispatched out to this call. And the son's starting to go down. And the call notes are real weird. So the notes were like, it was like a third party report. Because people were calling in and said,
Starting point is 00:23:32 hey, our son is in jail currently. His girlfriend is staying in his house, we own. She's calling us screaming, freaking out on the phone, like lots of weird stuff. She's saying weird stuff. We think she's on drugs. Can you just go essentially do like a welfare check? Yeah. Also just a heads up. She's saying someone broke into the house. We don't think it's real. She's known to use drugs. Thank you for service. Just so you know. So we start going out there. And my supervisor is kind of rolling out with me. And the guys for the night shift are starting to sign on. we're like, hey, can we get a few more out to this house?
Starting point is 00:24:09 We're already en route. So I show up first. And the way this was set out, it's like you have the road, and then there's a house right on the road, and then a dirt driveway that goes back like a quarter mile, and it's the house back there. Oh, good. That we're being dispatched to it.
Starting point is 00:24:23 Further from civilism. Yeah, exactly. So I pull up, and I can kind of get eyes on the house. I can see that the lights are on in the living room. It's a big picture window. Some cars parked around, but one of the things I noticed right off the bat, ground's still covered in snow
Starting point is 00:24:38 and there are no footprints. Okay. So, okay, that's a clue, right? Yeah. And of course I haven't been all the way around the house, but I'm gauging that from the front. So my supervisor shows up a couple minutes after me. We start walking up together.
Starting point is 00:24:52 As I get to the porch, I can see in that picture window, the girl inside the house is just sitting on the couch, like watching TV. That right there is already very creepy to me. Yeah. Yeah, because we've had this like panicked call, you know, supposedly.
Starting point is 00:25:05 She hasn't called 911. though. She's been calling her in-laws or her boyfriend's parents freaking out. But so as I'm walking up, I see her sitting on the couch, real casual. So come up, just knock on the door. She kind of like
Starting point is 00:25:19 peeks up at me and then just sits there. And so I'm knocking again. I start knocking on the window and I'm like, hey, police come to the door. We need to talk to you. Please come to the door. So she kind of like gets up, like shuffles over to the door and just barely cracks it and peaks
Starting point is 00:25:36 out and I'm like, ma'am, are you okay? You know, we're here to help. Is everything okay in the house? And she's like, no. And I was like, no. Yeah. She's like whispering. Okay. So I'm like, okay, you need to step out and talk to me. Is there someone else in the house? And she's like, he's here right now. Okay. And for that reason, I'm out. You go, you get in the car.
Starting point is 00:25:59 Well, good luck. Well, have fun. We, Ben and I be terrible officers of the law. I've seen this movie. I'm not going. Yeah. And of course, I'm like a few months on the job, right? So I'm like kind of starting to sweat. My, you know, my heart rate's getting up. But also we can't leave. Yeah. So yeah, I'm like, okay, please, please step out of the house. We need you to come out. She's like, he won't let me. I can't leave the house. And so at that point, okay, well, then we're coming in, right? Like your safety, everybody's safety involved. We're coming inside. So at that point,
Starting point is 00:26:31 I kind of pull the door and take a step in the house. And I'm kind of still looking at my supervisor for some cues here. I'm like, hey, how far are we taking this? You know, and he's like, well, I'll just, I'll just talk to her. And we're looking around the house is peaceful. The house is like actually shockingly clean. It's a pretty normal looking house. And so, you know, I'm just asking her, where's he at? Where is he in the house? Has he hurt you? She's like, I don't know where he's at. I just, I just know he's in the house. Okay. How long has he been here? And she's like, he's been here for a few days. I just, you know, okay. So, and we're trying to gauge a little bit of a picture, right?
Starting point is 00:27:09 Like, she's not quite seeming normal. Yeah. But she's also not seeming like completely high on something, you know? She's not tweaking like she's on meth or anything like that. So we basically came to the point. Like other units are still en route. We might have a suspect in the house. We don't know what's going on.
Starting point is 00:27:26 And honestly, I don't remember why this decision was made because I don't think this decision would be made at this point in my career. But for whatever reason, I drew my gun. And I was like, hey, I'll go check the house. And my supervisor was like, have, all right, have it. I'll stay with her. This is normal. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:42 Yeah. Go ahead by yourself. I start, you know, clear in the house. I'm going out. I got my gun out. I'm, you know, checking all the corners, all the closets. And as I move through the house, like, everything seems normal. Like, nothing looks broken.
Starting point is 00:27:56 Nothing is busted. There's no mess anywhere. There's no dirt. As I'm kind of like finishing up, we've got people who are now showing up and they're outside. checking the outside of the house. Hey guys, there's a pickup truck in the driveway. Check that.
Starting point is 00:28:09 Check the back door. Check, you know. And I'm hearing on the radio, hey, we're not seeing any footprints out here. There's nothing going on. So I think it had snowed like a day or two before. So we're like, okay, if anyone's in there, he's been camping out for a while. Yeah. He's not, you know.
Starting point is 00:28:22 So I'm kind of finishing up with the house. I get to the last room and I pop the door and I kind of peek in. And I come in and as I start panning around the room, I just see along one wall, there's a workbench. There are like dream catchers and things. There's a giant pentagram on the wall. There's literally a stack of like spell books. I see.
Starting point is 00:28:50 Candles, bones out on the table. Yeah. And super freaky. And you're like the dog in the fire meme. This is fine. Yeah, yeah, exactly. This is fine. Kind of a combination of that and like Homer Simpson like backing back.
Starting point is 00:29:04 Yeah. So I back back out. I go back into the living room. She's now sitting on the couch. Medical's there. They're checking her out. And right as I walk in, I'm kind of hearing medical like, hey, her vitals look fine. Everything looks normal.
Starting point is 00:29:19 Like we really, like there's no medical emergency. We can't force her out. Nothing like that. And so I just kind of step in. And I said, okay, ma'am, can I ask you a few more questions? And she's like, sure. And I said, okay, so when did he first show up? Like, when was he?
Starting point is 00:29:35 How long has he been here? and she's like, I think it's been three days. I don't know. He won't let me leave. I don't remember how many days it's been, you know, that kind of thing. And so I said, okay, what does he look like? Can you help me understand?
Starting point is 00:29:47 Because I've searched your house. I didn't find anyone. Tell me what he looks like. And she says, well, I don't know. I don't know what he looks like. He just stands in the shadows and whispers to me. Okay. So the devil is the guy that was in her house for three days.
Starting point is 00:30:03 Yeah. Dude, that is so messed up. He stands in the corner. So did you, what, like, how did it end? What next? Honestly, and this is sad, but I looked at it and I said, okay, ma'am, where can we take you? Like, I would like to take you somewhere safe. Clearly, you are not okay here.
Starting point is 00:30:16 Yeah. She's like, no, I'll just stay here. Oh my gosh. And we had no legal cause. We couldn't force her to leave. Medical couldn't force her to leave. So ultimately, we literally ended by saying, okay, ma'am, if anything happens, if you're in danger, please call us.
Starting point is 00:30:32 You know, we're happy to come any time of the night. Dude. And so you close the door on the woman in her demon. Yeah. And then we left. And I went back to that house. It was probably like a year and a half, almost two years later, for one of the most violent assaults like I've encountered.
Starting point is 00:30:53 And it was her. It was her and the boyfriend. And he almost killed her. I mean, like, she comes running out of the house, like covered in blood. It was like, it was gnarly, but it was the same people living in that house. Yeah. Oh my goodness. Hey guys, this is Ray from the band Out of the Graves.
Starting point is 00:31:12 It's a sad fact that most of the music that I listen to seems to fall under two categories. One, it's either made by dudes who used to claim Christ 10 years ago and no longer do, or it's made by a bunch of dudes who never claimed Christ at all. Here at New Christenum Press, we say that Christians should make the best art, and out of the graves is part of that mission. There's a reason we call it post-mill rock and roll. So if you're looking for music to wage war on pagan art, check out out of the graves anywhere you listen to music.
Starting point is 00:31:49 So you believe the aliens are demons? Yeah. I do. Jake Muller Adventures is an immersive, mysterious, and engaging audio drama. Starting point is 00:33:11 what Sasquatch's feet smell like after a long journey through the wilderness? Absolutely not. But I have wondered about what a dwarven forge smells like after I visit a Gothic cathedral that sits right next to the alchemist. Whoa. Well, hey, then you're in luck.
Starting point is 00:33:26 because mythology candles has all of those scents in candle form. Even Sasquatch's smelly feet? Well, not really his smelly feet, but they do have a Sasquatch candle. So go to mythology candles.com. That's mythology spelled with I.E. at the end. And use code Cosmos for 10% off your order. I was reading in William Guge of Domestical Duties the other day. Yeah, as one does.
Starting point is 00:33:52 And he was saying, in his qualifications for marriage, I promise that we're getting to something here. In his qualifications for marriage, that any witch who has committed a witch's Sabbath with her familiar spirit demon is not qualified for marriage. That was like one of the points that he very intentionally said.
Starting point is 00:34:13 Like, witch's communion with devils means that they're not qualified to be married. People have done this. Like ever. Like it's come up. Yeah, like even if they repent because it's intimate in nature. So what I'm trying to,
Starting point is 00:34:26 say is, seems like maybe that lady like conjured up something. I think that she did it. And it's a shadow man. Like that is so, so creepy. People mess around. It's getting more and more. And it is wild how the, you see the connection between the spiritual and also then later the human evil of violence.
Starting point is 00:34:49 And like, demons don't want good for you. And so when you open the door to them in your life, they might promise good things. You might think, oh, I'm going to get power. I'm going to do this thing. I'm curious. And then the next thing you know, they are there. Man, that is crazy.
Starting point is 00:35:04 Like you wonder how many women or men, I guess, get like spellbooks and do the pentagram thing. And it's like, you know, we're not one to say whether or not there's some formula that will just like force the dark spirit's hand and they now have to come. But if they notice that that's what the person is wanting, that's what they're inviting in. Why would they not latch on to that? And how many people, we see the, with Ouija board stuff,
Starting point is 00:35:30 how many people do that thinking it's not a big deal or like, this will be fun? And they end up weighing over their head. Like she's immediately terrified. Yeah, for sure. I think, I don't know, I guess the way I've always kind of thought about it is like not that there is necessarily a formula
Starting point is 00:35:46 other than you're doing something. Yeah. Displaying the desire for this to occur. Yeah, you're asking for it. And I think it's, doesn't matter how you ask for it, you know, once you like are like, nope, this is what I want to happen. It's probably going to start happening. Yeah. Even if you're, even if you're not a true believer, it's like in last battle when what's that Calerman General's name? I can't remember
Starting point is 00:36:10 his name. It was like he doesn't believe in Tash or whatever, but, but it's like you've summoned Tash. Yeah. To Tash you'll go. And you start believing then. Yeah. Pretty quick. Yep. They called upon a monster. Man, that's crazy. Yeah. In these cases, it's even combined with in many cases, the witchy stuff today, they believe it. They're not even, like, some of them are messing around and for fun. But a lot of witches, they start with, like, white magic. They start with, they think that they're just getting in touch with some generally benevolent spiritual energy.
Starting point is 00:36:39 They're seeking healing a lot of the time. They don't all start by saying, I'm going to curse my enemies. They start with, if I do this sage and I get this, then I can have bad spirits go away. Good spirits come in. They can bring me mental clarity, healing from my enemies. my illness is. And it's not even that they never can. Right.
Starting point is 00:36:59 Bring some of those things or the illusion of them. It's that the pathway that you've started down. Yeah. Is a pathway that may wear a nice face at first. Well, that stuff is like so much, it seems so much more common. I felt like when I was growing up or even as an adult, you know, 10 years ago, that stuff was kind of a joke. Oh, you got your crystals, you're going to do your, you know, whatever. But like, I can't tell you how many.
Starting point is 00:37:24 houses I go into now where like you're walking up to the door and you're like crystals hanging around the door and there's little stuff taped up and then you've got like I remember going into this one house it was a it was a guy that had died but every doorway in the house was like lined with these like stones and crystals yeah like along the top of the door the door frame oh yeah their their charms and their talismans and actually back in medieval history in mainland Europe they they they're started to be some syncretism happening in rural areas where the doctrine of the church wasn't as explicitly either proclaimed or, you know, people weren't held to it as strictly. And they started to do white magic with the church. Yep. And like with Christians, where they would,
Starting point is 00:38:13 you know, walk around the field and they would have like witch cakes that they'd make to bless the yield of the field or they would sing songs to control the motion of bees between hives and stuff like that. And then it quickly spiraled out of control where, you know, they started basically started being very superstitious. Yep. And then it got into what we would call as overt black magic. Yeah. But at the end of the day, it kind of leads back to the source and you're like, really all magic is black magic. It's all the same. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, that even gets into and I think Ben, you and I have talked about this some, but like the Appalachian folk magic and some of that stuff. And I mean like even even it's crazy how common things like dousing for wells is.
Starting point is 00:38:55 You know what I mean? Like that because where I grew up, everybody had well water. It was way out, you know, kind of out in the country. And so like that was a really just, oh,
Starting point is 00:39:04 you're buying a house. Yeah. Hey, call this guy. He'll find your well for you. Get the water diviner out. And I've heard from multiple different like, whether it be parts of my family or or different people I knew.
Starting point is 00:39:15 But like there were people in the community who were known that like, oh, this guy was in a bad car wreck. he's in the hospital bleeding, hey, call this guy because he can stop bleeding. Like, he can come, like, whisper some, and sometimes it was like Bible verses or something, he'd, like, whisper something in their ear
Starting point is 00:39:28 and, like, could stop bleeding and that kind of stuff. Like, weird stuff that gets, like, passed down, but not everybody knows how it works, but there seems to be a general knowledge that that kind of thing happens, you know? We walked past a, Lexi and I were on a date, historic 25th Street, and it's, you know, like dark because it was after the kids were down.
Starting point is 00:39:48 And I see this stand up there and a woman's sitting behind it. There was another woman in front of it like a customer and then her boyfriend or husband or something, you know, was right behind her. And then getting close from like, oh, they're doing a tarot reading. They're doing some kind of like witchy stuff, tarot stuff. And I was just like praying right then as we walked by. I was like, Lord, please just let like the Holy Spirit completely interrupt this as we walk by and like glitched the whole.
Starting point is 00:40:16 Don't know what happened. this is a totally anticlimatic story. But maybe it screwed it up. I was thinking of all of the stories of witches who will say, like when this guy walked in, I couldn't do any. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And it's just a Christian.
Starting point is 00:40:28 Like that happens too. It shows you the spiritual reality behind some of these things, but also how common they're getting. Like you walked down your main street and you're like, oh, they're calling on demons. We've had multiple, you know, self-proclaimed, which is come into the church and talk to the pastors. I was stopped by a lady in the parking lot.
Starting point is 00:40:47 not too long ago. And she was like, hey, I'm just like very, very oppressed. Can you give me some holy water? Like that? I was like, I can pray for you. But no, I'm not going to give you. We don't do that. We don't do that here.
Starting point is 00:41:00 Yeah. She was like, no thanks. I really am not interested in being prayed for. Maybe I'll go check the Catholic church down the street, see if they'll give me some holy water. I was like, okay. Yeah, I mean, you can go check. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:10 But I'll still pray for you. Yeah, whether you like it or not. This is going to do. Yeah, without consent. Yeah, without consent. for you. I'm trying for you specifically. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:20 Yeah. Yeah. It's just crazy. I also think it's wild that people, a lot of times dismiss things as just drugs. And it's not that drugs aren't involved. Drugs are often involved. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:30 Routinely, as you know better than anyone in this room. But the idea that because drugs are involved, there is no other layer. Right. Yeah. What a huge, huge lie. Well, I think, you know, the DMT stuff has convinced me. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:44 That is absolutely a bogus thing to, to think. So yeah, wow. Very, very crazy stories. Just like pure creep. Yeah, it is creepy. God, it's just so creepy. But Ray, thank you so much for coming for coming on. I really appreciate it. Thank you for giving us your time. Yeah, thank you. Last note, guys, make sure that you just take a minute right now, pray for Ray. He's out there, tip of the spear, doing law enforcement stuff and it's not, none of it is safe. It's just not a safe profession. So take a minute, pray for Ray, pray for his family and the guys he works with here in Utah. Also check out his music. Out of the Graves is really good stuff. Definitely go check it out. Ray also produces my catechism music. So pretty much since like question 26 or something, all the instruments, the mixing, mastering, that's all Ray. So he's very, very talented, super thankful to have him around, but also apparently fights demons in his spare time. So with a glocky glock. The demon hunter.
Starting point is 00:42:57 He's a demon hunter. If you guys like this show again, send us your stories. Stories at the hauntedcosmos.com.
