Welcome to the High Performance Mindset Podcast.
This is your host, Sindra Kampoff, and thank you so much for joining me today.
Today's message is about having a compelling vision for your future.
And having a compelling vision makes you want to get out of bed every morning, makes you want to jump out of bed every morning.
I was thinking quite a bit on Sunday about this message, the message that I wanted to record this week, and you, the podcast listeners. On Sunday, I ran, which I think was my 12th marathon,
the California International Marathon in Sacramento. And what I really tried to do in this race is have
a heart and a mindset of gratitude.
If you listened to the message last week about the gratitude effect, I was really just working to have a really grateful perspective as I was running these 26.2 miles.
It worked. I smiled a lot and I really enjoyed the experience. One of the things I thought quite a bit about during the race was what it really takes to train for a marathon, to commit to running a marathon, and then actually doing it on race day.
And it's such a race of courage that you really have to commit to a big vision to run the race.
And then in the race, you have to commit to this vision.
And so that's what I'd like to deliver today is a message about having a
compelling vision. And when I think about a compelling vision, you know, a vision is really
a detailed description of where you want to go. Think about what that looks like and what that
actually feels like. And a compelling vision can include many different areas in your life. It
could include your career and what you want to do with your career, but also your health and your fitness.
What do you want to, how do you want to feel?
What are the habits that you want to do every day related to your health and your fitness?
It can include your relationships and how you want those relationships in your life, especially those near and dear to your heart. It could include your personal goals, what you'd like to achieve, and then your contribution to your community.
But once you have a compelling vision, a vision that is really, really moves you, that's vivid
and powerful, what happens is you keep showing up to accomplish that vision. And that's why having a
crystal clear vision is so important in your life.
And we know that high achievers
and successful people have big visions.
They know what they want.
And every day they work to move towards that vision.
And sometimes if you don't have a clear vision,
you're likely to get trapped by your own limitations,
your own limited thinking.
And you can get stuck in your head
instead of thinking big about your future and really going after your big goals and your big
dreams. So clear vision can really unlock your power because what happens is you start becoming
what you envision becoming. And you need a compelling vision to feel fully alive. Each of us needs
something that we're working towards to make us feel happy and flourishing in our life.
You know, you need a vision that makes you want to jump out of bed every single morning.
So how do you create this compelling vision? First, you should pick a date, maybe five years, 10 years, 15 or 20 years from
now. Pick a date that you'd like to be thinking about and starting to develop your compelling
vision. So again, 5, 10, 15 or 20 years from now. Make sure you grab a piece of paper out because
when you write it down, your vision becomes more powerful. So write down your vision. Think about
what you'd be doing, you know, in that date. If you were flourishing, if you were living the life
that you really wanted, what would you be doing in 5, 10, 15, or 20 years from now? What would
your finances look like? What would your health and your fitness look like? What would your
relationships look like and how would they feel? What personal goals health and your fitness look like? What would your relationships look like and
how would they feel? What personal goals would you be accomplishing? What would you be doing in your
career or what you do for your work? And what contributions would have you made to your
community? It's really important that you're specific with that vision because the more
specific that you are, the more likely it's going to direct your behavior and writing your vision down will give it power and
you'll be more committed to your vision after you write it down so it could
again a personal vision could include what you want to do how you want to be
how do you want to feel who do you want to associate with and what's the impact
that you want to have in that date that you have
chosen you know 5, 10, 15, or 20 years from now. Once you have that compelling vision written down
I have a few other tips for you. First share it with a good friend or a family member that you
you know really supports you. Someone who you know would be excited about your vision
because each time you share your vision it becomes more real and more possible
for you. After you get done writing your vision down, consider writing your
WHY under that vision. Why do you really want to achieve your vision?
What good is going to come out of it after you achieve this vision?
When you have a compelling why, what that's going to help you do is help you keep going despite
obstacles like get in your way. I have my vision written by my bed, right by my bedside. Every
single morning I wake up and boom, there's my vision. So consider writing your vision down and then framing it
or maybe framing a goal within that vision.
Sort of like a certificate of achievement
that you've already accomplished it.
Hang it somewhere that you can see every day.
Maybe it's by your bed.
Maybe it's by your bathroom mirror.
Maybe it's in your planner that you open up every day.
You know, my friends,
you are capable at any
time of doing what you dream of. The first step is to create this vision. Decide what you want
so that you can go after it and as Michelangelo said we need a compelling vision and the reason
we need that is because the greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and that we miss it,
but that our aim is too low and we reach it.
So today, my friends, spend some time over your lunch hour.
Maybe tomorrow morning, grab a cup of coffee and sit down and write your vision out.
Pick a 5, 10, 15, or 20 years from now, pick a date,
write your vision down, and then share it with a good friend or family member that you're close
with. Write down your why. Why do you want to achieve that? And then frame it somewhere or
put it somewhere you can see every single day so you move towards that vision. Thank you so much
