Starting point is 00:00:37 Good morning. It's great to be here. Good to have you in. Were you watching the draft and stuff like that? Oh, yeah. I was happy.
Starting point is 00:00:43 Good. Yeah. I was happy to see what they did. I didn't really watch any of it. I, for whatever reason, was just not into watching it this year. But I know several people were. And holy cow, I saw pictures of the streets of Nashville all weekend. They looked busy.
Starting point is 00:00:56 It was unbelievable how many people showed up for the draft in Nashville. So anyway, moving right along our topic today, two ways to accept and embrace change. So sometimes change is terrifying. And we like to start with a quote. What do you have? Socrates said, the secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new. Awesome. All right. So let's start with an example.
Starting point is 00:01:17 So this week I was speaking to Walmart executives about developing a high performance culture. And when we're talking about what it takes to develop a high performance culture, we talked about four things, one of them being the ability to adapt to change. And I think about, you know, stores and Amazon is changing the marketplace, everyone's shopping online. And so stores have to be adaptive to that. All right. So what are we talking about today in regards to those two ways to accept and embrace change? So we're talking about how change can be difficult, but the world is constantly changing. And many of these changes are uncontrollable, things that we don't have any impact on. And we can fear change like a new job or new responsibilities at work, or we can fight change.
Starting point is 00:02:00 But then if we do, we don't reach our potential or be our best self, and we're really holding ourselves back. So when you think about change, change is really asking you to develop new skills or try new things, be resilient and courageous. Even kind of just come up with new routines. Absolutely. Sometimes they're the biggest thing, and you're like, I don't want to. What's important when you're considering adopting change, things that are happening to you? So one of the most impactful things about my talk at Walmart, when I asked people at the end, they said, when I talked about this and how people in situations don't make us feel a certain way, we can really choose how to feel and what we do. We can decide how we respond
Starting point is 00:02:39 to change. And I think really, you know, being adaptable to change is really the difference between growing and staying the same. And in the workplace, it's like getting left behind or being competitive. So we can really change how we view change. So how do we do that? So the first thing is to remember that your focus determines how you feel. So what I mean by that is the way you see the situation determines how you feel. And you can always by that is the way you see the situation determines how you feel. And you can always be looking at a situation and looking at what's helpful about change, or you can be repeating in your mind what's not helpful. And I think also the way other people see situations, I mean, we have to remember that too, how they're reacting, how they're treating you, how they're treating the situation is through
Starting point is 00:03:24 their lens. Absolutely. We don't have to always take that perspective that we can really choose. And we can choose to see any difficulty, anything about change as a gift. And when we do that, we pursue new opportunities. We get more energy to embrace the challenge just by seeing it as something that's helpful, that it's a blessing, that it's a gift. You have a final point for us?
Starting point is 00:03:45 I do. And, you know, we can resist change. And I think when we do, it just kind of robs us of really experiences that help us in our life, professionally and personally, that transform us. It's easy to live kind of a life of comfort, but a life of mastery helps you live your best. And that means confronting change and challenges. It's inevitable, too. It's just going to happen. You have to adapt to it and roll with it. And the way your mindset approaches it makes all the difference in the world. So let's summarize today's topic, two ways to accept and embrace change.
Starting point is 00:04:17 So high performers embrace change. They actually thrive off it. And they realize they can choose how to think and feel. the first step is to remember that your focus determines how you feel and you can view anything as a gift. And what's our power phrase for today? I embrace change. I see change as a gift. That's pretty simple right there. That's an easy one. You can write that one down on your post-it note and slap it right on your computer or your bathroom mirror or your forehead, wherever you need it. Today with two ways to accept and embrace change, Dr. Sindra Kampoff with us today for High Performance Mindset.
