Each week we bring you strategies and interviews to help you ignite your mindset. Let's bring on Sindra. And Sindra in studio with me this morning. High Performance Mindset, kind of where we come together every Monday to figure out what we can do during the week to start our week off right, to use our mind to be the best that we can be. Right, Sindra? Absolutely. Great to describe it. All right. So let's talk about what we're going to talk about today. And this is being brave. Yes. And my message is about being brave like Gabe. And the quote we're going to start with is by Gabe Grunewald. She said, being brave for me
Starting point is 00:00:55 means never giving up on things that make me feel alive. Who was Gabe for those that don't know? So Gabe was a middle distance runner, American middle distance runner, who battled cancer four times in the last 10 years, first in 2009. And she ran professionally during that time for Brooks. Gabe was actually one of my clients, and we focused on her mindset in life and as a professional runner. And she passed last week at age 32. So today's message is really about her and to continue to spread the message of bravery because I think she lived a really inspiring life that we can all take some nuggets from and think about this week. So we're talking about her legacy.
Starting point is 00:01:38 What exactly are we talking about? So I think Gabe's legacy is one of hope. She really wanted to live her life kind of full out despite the cancer. And in my book, Beyond Grit and Practice 7, I talk about gratitude. And I feature Gabe as an example because she said, you know, even in the dark days, she was always focusing on the blessings in her life. This allowed her to like dream about her future. And she said this allowed her to stay alive.
Starting point is 00:02:02 And a few things that I take from that is first first, she always was focusing on the blessings, despite the difficulties. And I also, I think for me, I can keep that in perspective and say, wow, whatever I'm dealing with is nothing compared to that. Okay. And then what, so what's the one thing that you learned from Gabe? I really learned bravery and fearlessness. You know, I think sometimes people engage in a coaching relationship because they learn from us, but I learned equally as much from her. For example, her college coach said she had a mind of her own, like in a good way. She was not going to let anyone tell her she couldn't do something.
Starting point is 00:02:40 He said her legacy of toughness will outlast generations. That's one of the things Gabe taught me was to always to keep on going. And she said that, you know, she wanted to do something inspiring and push through to stay positive. And it's about doing your best, she said. So that's what she really taught me to really be brave every day and fearless. How do you think Gabe lived her life? I think since being diagnosed with cancer, I saw her really be of service to others. So she started an organization called Brave Like Gabe.
Starting point is 00:03:11 And I saw her inspiring others on social media and Instagram, like all over the world. And so I think she did this to help other people, to bring awareness to rare cancer research. And she said, you know, I wanted to make the time I have mean something and help others. You know, and she wanted to show that in the face of adversity and uncertainty, that you can live a fulfilling life. And I think that's what bravery is about. And that's certainly what she did. This kind of reminds me of the whole Jonathan Ziertz story. It does. It does. Yeah, two people who are really inspiring and made us realize, I think, the importance of life.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So how do you think that we can be brave like Gabe? A few things. I think you could read about her story if you're not sure, and I know you'll feel inspired. Maybe you could put a quote of something that you heard today, like, you know, find the blessings in my life or keep going, or something like that. You could put a quote about her or from her, or you can channel Gabe, her bravery and her service,
Starting point is 00:04:12 like her heart of service. I know it's something that I'm going to do. And she had this quote above her dining room. I'm hanging it up today. So I actually purchased the same frame and hanging it up. So this is what she said. And I think this is really about being brave like Gabe. So this picture she had said, there are two ways to live your life. One is though nothing is a miracle. And the other as though everything is a miracle. That's such a great thing. Wow. Could you summarize for us today? I would say high performers are brave. They do things that make them feel alive and act with courage. They have a heart of service where they give to others and they see everything
Starting point is 00:04:51 as a miracle. It's all about keeping that positive mindset as we head forward on a Monday, right? Absolutely. Keeping everything in perspective. So what's the power phrase this week for us? Today, I will see everything as a miracle. Very good. Thank you so much, Sindra. Thanks for having me. And I am sorry about your friend. Thank you.
