Welcome back. Thank you. It's great to be here. How to change your perspective. I like this one on a Monday. It's good for a lot of people, I think, when they're kind of getting up and thinking, you know, Monday is such a negative term for some people. So we always like to start with a good quote.
Starting point is 00:00:51 What do you have for us today? This is by Wayne Dreyer. He said, if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change. Oh, that's a good way to put it. I like to learn more about that. Let's start with a good example. So you probably heard about Wimbledon this year. It kind of went into an
Starting point is 00:01:08 epic match between Federer and Novak Djokovic. Almost five hours. Crazy. Crazy. And I watched it for a while and then saw it kind of go back and forth and saw some epic battles. One of the coolest things that I heard was you know, the crowd was really
Starting point is 00:01:24 supportive of Roger Federer. And at one point they were chanting, Roger, Roger, Roger. And Novak was asked afterwards, how did you deal with that? And he said, well, actually, when they chanted Roger, I heard Novak. Oh, okay. So he just, you know, sometimes, yeah. Well, we joke about this all the time, about how sometimes people are listening and they hear what they want to hear and not what was said. Yeah. You know, that might be a different angle from a different perspective, but that's sort of the way he used that to fuel himself, I suppose. And to see like this difficulty and the difficult circumstances like an advantage.
Starting point is 00:02:00 And then the reporter said, is this a mental training thing? And he said, of course. That's awesome. So that's kind of what we're talking about here today, because in your book, Beyond Grit, practice three is the discussion. What are we talking about there today? So we're actually talking about this tool reframing and that we can use reframing anytime we're dealing with a difficulty or a challenge or a circumstance. We can change our lens or viewpoint. And I think it's important because the world is what you make out of it
Starting point is 00:02:27 and we can change our perspective or lens at any time. So Novak was really seeing this difficulty as helping him, something that would be his advantage. And we can choose to see any situation as something we can grow from or learn from, anything difficult we can see as an opportunity. I've seen this happen in sports,
Starting point is 00:02:46 but it can also obviously be used in the workplace and in a number of different ways. Why is it important that we use reframing? I think because it can help us keep going despite difficulties or hardships or obstacles. And we don't necessarily ignore the difficulty when we reframe, but we just really see it differently, choose to see a different perspective. So can you give us some examples of when we can use something like reframing?
Starting point is 00:03:14 I think we can see any kind of setback as a comeback or any kind of difficulty as an opportunity. And so maybe your job is really hard right now. There's something in your job that you don't really like. Or you got, you know, a boss that just gave you tough feedback. Or it's Monday morning and you might be in a cranky mood, you know. It happens. Yeah, it happens sometimes, right?
Starting point is 00:03:35 Or you're experiencing some kind of difficulty in a relationship. I saw this tweet yesterday of my friend who was saying that the first 10 minutes on this airplane, this mom was complaining about being in the backseat. And then her 10-year-old daughter was like, well, mom, at least we can't get kicked in the butt today. That's true. I think that's like when I think about good coaches that my kids have had. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:04:00 Especially in hockey where they're like, okay, you made a mistake that shift maybe. The next shift is, as my husband always says, an opportunity to do something different. What did you do last time? Try something else this time. Absolutely. See if it works. And you can't do anything different about what just happened.
Starting point is 00:04:13 Right. But you can change your lens and it gives you more energy, more positivity and just helps you keep going. Right. Right. My, my, one of my sons said, well, but they got second place in one of the games or tournament that he was in. And he said, well, second place is better than worse than third. That's awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:31 It was kind of a nightmare game. So how do we exactly reframe these things? Yeah. And sometimes kids are a little bit better at it than we are. But we can do this by just taking a step back and considering just a different frame or a different lens. So think about a difficulty you're experiencing right now and how can you just change it to see, you know, more positive and all these, you know, negative situations or events are really help there to help us learn more about ourselves or situation or maybe our desire to reach our goals. So we can really see any difficulty as an opportunity to grow and learn. Excellent. So let's summarize this topic today. So those of us that are going
Starting point is 00:05:08 cranky Monday mode, let's reframe this and summarize today's topic. So high performers use reframing every day and they don't ignore the difficulty, but they choose to see a different perspective and how the obstacle is actually helping them. It helps them feel more positive and motivated to keep going in all areas of their lives. And what is our power phrase for today? I will see an opportunity. I will see a setback as a comeback. Excellent.
Starting point is 00:05:35 If we want to learn more or get in touch with you or grab the book or listen to the podcast, man, there's so much going on. What's the best way to get in touch with you?
