Sindra joins us in studio. Good morning. Good morning. It's great to be here. Awesome to have you. Do you on purpose? We hear
Starting point is 00:00:43 that a lot. I used to not hear a long time ago, hey, you do you. Right. You know, that kind of thing. That's a huge buzz phrase now. Yeah. Nowadays, everybody's saying it. And I like it. It's good because it's one of those things where I think of with school age kids, you
Starting point is 00:00:56 know? For sure. There's so much pressure to fit in or be part of this group or that group. And I just want to tell these kids, like, look, I went through it, too. I know exactly what you're going through. If I could tell young me anything today, it would be like, dude, just do you. It's going to be so much better when you get older if you're not happy now. So do you on purpose.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Who's the quote that we start with? This is a quote by Dolly Parton. She said, figure out who you are, then do it on purpose. I like it. Me, too. And that very much sounds like something like Dolly is. She's just very much Dolly Parton and only Dolly Parton. Yeah, isn't that true?
Starting point is 00:01:30 Who doesn't really worry about what the rest of the world thinks. So where do you start with today with an example? Well, last week, one of the days I was speaking in South Dakota, and I did this exercise that we actually did on the radio a couple weeks ago where I actually brought somebody up on stage, and I brought the president of the organization up. And we just did this quick prompt where I said, I do what I do so that. And then she said, I do what I do so that.
Starting point is 00:01:52 And her answers were so powerful. And just in like 30 seconds, you could get really clear. You could understand why she did what she did. And the whole audience was like, whoa, because it was just so powerful that she clearly knew what her purpose was and she could articulate it. Had a solid grasp. Yeah, it was amazing. I feel like there's a lot of us that just kind of float around and we really don't know why we're here and what we're doing.
Starting point is 00:02:13 And we really haven't thought about why are we here and what we're doing. Right, right. Absolutely. Absolutely. So out of the book, Beyond Grit, there's a practice that we're talking about today. What is that? It's practice number two, and it's about purpose. And so today what we're going to talk about is, you know, what does that mean to figure out who you are and then do it on purpose? And I have three powerful questions for
Starting point is 00:02:31 you to ask yourself to get more clarity on that. And I think the reasons, if you don't really get clear on your purpose and don't know who you are, I think the result is you have loss of direction. Sometimes you can overthink, you can experience inconsistency, and I just think you fail to thrive. Okay. So let's get into this then, dig a little bit deeper and ask why we need to be clear on who we are. I mean, like you said, I remember doing this exercise on the air and Lisa was like, bing, bang, bing, bang. And I went, crash and burn. I was like a plane in flames, just heading straight for the ground. And it was awful. And I felt terrible when it was over.
Starting point is 00:03:06 So let's I mean, I'm obviously somebody who could work a little harder on this. What do we have here as far as getting clear and. And why it's important. Why? Yeah, I think it's important because, you know, we know that the world's best really know who they are and why they do what they do. And the reason is so you can follow what's really exciting to you, that you engage in activities that you're fulfilled by, that you love to do, that it doesn't even seem like hard work. And when you make the choice to really get clear on your purpose, that's how you
Starting point is 00:03:33 thrive because you're spending more time doing what you're uniquely designed to do. You're more fulfilled. So there are some questions, right? How many? Three? Yeah, we got three today. Okay, what's the first one? The first one is what do you love to do? But I think the key is you got to take action to figure it out. And most people don't understand their passion because it's really a result of action, not the cause of it. So what I mean by that is it's kind of a trial and error process. You have to really try the activity to see if it's something that you actually like. So, you know, think about if someone said today, you can't go home, what would you do? What would you choose to do? Because you just love to do it. First question is, what do you love to do? All right. What's the second question? Second question is, what makes
Starting point is 00:04:12 you forget to eat dinner? So yeah, okay. Okay. I was reading this article about Isaac Newton. And in his prime, his mother would have to come in regularly and remind him to eat, because he would spend so much of his time so absorbed in his work that he would have to come in regularly and remind him to eat because he would spend so much of his time so absorbed in his work that he would forget to eat. And so what activities do you do that doesn't even seem like work that you can do for really long stretches without getting bored or tired? And it might even, you know, you might even forget to eat. I like it. That's a good way to put it. Yeah. What's your last question? Okay. Last one is help you think about what is your legacy? So what is your legacy going to be? What do you want to be remembered by? What's your last question? Okay. Last one is to help you think about what is your legacy? So what is your legacy going to be?
Starting point is 00:04:46 What do you want to be remembered by? What's your answer to that? And that kind of leaves you to really reflect on what's important to you. Because I think when people see that they don't have a sense of direction or purpose, it's because they haven't really thought about what's important to them or what their values are. And by thinking about what your legacy is, you become more clear on that. So what's your final message for us? Okay. My final message is this. By discovering one's, you know, your own uniqueness and your purpose and by finding out what boils, you know, what's most important to you. It's really about you helping you think about how can you help others and what's important to you. And it's not necessarily about a great achievement,
Starting point is 00:05:23 but finding what you're great at and doing it well. All right, so let's summarize this today for people that maybe are getting in the car and a little crusty about going to a job that they perhaps don't enjoy. And it's time to make a change. So how do we summarize today's topic? So high performers,
Starting point is 00:05:39 those people who are working to reach their greater potential, they really be themselves on purpose. They spend time thinking and reflecting about what they love to do, what they would miss dinner for, what their legacy is going to be, and they understand what's important to them. I love that.
Starting point is 00:05:53 What makes you forget to eat dinner? That's pretty good. What's our power phrase for today? I figure out who I am and do it on purpose. I do what I love, which keeps me fueled and excited about my life. Everybody be more like Dolly Parton. Yeah, I love it. That's pretty good stuff.
