always happy to have
with us.
Well, Logan's here today
and then Sindra Kampoff
in studio.
Good morning.
Good morning.
It's great to be here.
I was thinking about you
yesterday as the Vikings
had their big win.
I know.
We were pumped up.
We were running crazy
around our house.
Oh, you were watching
it at home?
Yes, I was
because it was
at the Zanes. All right. Well, and then do you have plans for next Saturday?
Yes. We're figuring it out. Right now. Exactly. It's exciting. Well, High Performance Mindset
with Cinder Kampoff here. We're talking about, I mentioned it really early this morning with
an announcement about the change of our show
um but our i was excited to have you in because you're talking about your one word that guides
your year and i happened to pick a word before the end of last year to guide me this year and
i was talking to you and you had picked a word for this year that was my word last year isn't
it awesome it's really really cool um but let's talk about the word of the year. Okay.
So we're going to start with a quote, and this goes, The words matter, and the right words matter most of all.
In the end, they're all that remain of us.
John Birmingham.
Okay.
Okay.
So you've got an example to start with.
So a few years ago, an author reached out to me and said,
I want to send you my book.
And I was like, okay.
When I started reading it, in the last several years, I've been implementing it.
And it's a book called One Word by Dan Britton, Jimmy Page, and John Gordon.
And the idea is that you choose one word to guide your year.
And, you know, this one word can really make a difference.
It can impact relationships, connect to your purpose, give you power.
And the words you speak really do make a difference in how you show up.
And your words can really shape your experiences in your life.
So what are we talking about today, then?
So we're really talking about, last week we talked about how New Year's resolutions really don't work.
I mean, 8% of people actually follow through.
We had a very long talk of the town about that.
We did, yeah.
And how we really need to set goals instead.
Well, this is one way to help you be intentional throughout your year. Consider really what you want and what do you need? What will bring out the best in you? And, you know, as I said, words are really powerful. They have power to inspire, to encourage you. Maybe you turn the impossible into possible and allows you to show up with purpose and live your purpose.
So how did you find your word? How do you suggest people go about it?
So the way I found my word is I really thought about like, what do I really want this year?
And what do I need to guide me towards that? That's how I answered my word was. In the book,
they talk about asking yourself three questions. So what do I need? What's in my way? And what
needs to go? And if you write out your
responses to those questions, it'll help you guide you towards your one word. So, Cendra, how in your
personal day-to-day life, how have you applied this one word idea? So last year, my word was
courage because I wanted to show up more courageously. And this year, my word is grace.
And to me, what that means is I'm going to do my best to be patient with myself and my progress.
Sometimes I can get frustrated.
Forgive myself when I make a mistake or mess up.
Show love with my two boys, even if they're frustrated.
And show grace with them.
And then really give myself and other people kindness.
Like no judgment towards other people that I meet.
That's why I'm going to show up with grace this year. I like it. I like that. So how have people, like other people, applied the one
word idea? So my husband chose a commitment. We were talking with my kids about this and they
were choosing their one word. My friend said less, and I like this. She said less stress, less debt, less carbs, less stuff, less worry, less guilt.
Sounds like minimalism almost a little bit, just like a minimalist mindset.
Absolutely.
Other people have used purpose, motivation, serve, forgive, connected, heart.
I know teams have used this, like in professional teams or sports teams have chosen their one word for the year.
And you chose grace last year, Lisa.
I chose grace last year.
This year I chose fortitude, which is interesting because it's courage or pain,
courage in pain or adversity.
So there's a lot of things that happen that you don't expect to happen.
And what is courage?
It's acting in spite of fear.
Absolutely. Kind of what I'm doing today and moving moving forward you know it's just one of those things
that you things don't always go with the way you want but how you respond to it really does make a
difference yes and so i'm i'm i don't know i don't know if it was foreshadowing or what i don't know
but fortitude is my my word great word uh when I wrote out what grace meant to me and just had those four bullet points, it really helped me.
Because then I was, like, really able to see it on paper, like, how I was going to be graceful this year.
So that's one thing that I would encourage everyone to do is once you choose your word, write, you know, three or four or five bullets.
What does that mean to you?
Okay.
Okay.
I think I have mine.
What's yours?
I joked when Lisa first brought it up. I'm like up like well i can't say my word on the air no i have been thinking about i think uh
i've settled on consistency oh awesome what does that mean to you logan uh well the the dictionary
definition of it is steadfast adherence to the same principles course or form. And for me, it's just going for its more consistency in cleaner eating,
training more consistently,
because it's not about making a million changes all at once.
It's about making a couple of small changes
and sticking with it over the course of a month, a year, a decade,
whatever the case.
So consistency, being consistent in what I do.
Okay, Sandra, we've got these words.
So what do we do after we uncover our one word? You said write it down. Yep, write it down. I
think you need to keep your word front and center for the year. So I have, I found this cool necklace
that says grace on it. So that's how I'm reminding myself of it. Maybe you put it on a screensaver or
on your phone wall, right? Like, or you put it in a note card and put it in your bathroom.
But the key is, is like, keep it front and center,
share it with other people,
and maybe even do this with your team at work this week,
or you, you know, do it with your sports team
or your family.
So how would you summarize all this for us?
I'd say, you know, high performers,
like those people who are listening,
they live intentionally,
they consider the ways
that they can be their best. And this one word allows them to live on purpose throughout their
day and they keep their one word front and center. Excellent. I love it. Thank you so much for that.
What is the power phrase this week? I am intentional with my words. I will show up
at my best on purpose with purpose. There you go. I like it.
All right.
So consistency, grace, and fortitude.
What's your word?
Think about that.
That's your mission today from Cinder.
Cinder, thank you so much.
