732 here on this Monday morning, Minnesota 93
mornings. Doc Bartender and Terry T in studio
and joined now by the good doctor
Syndra Kampoff in studio. Hello. What's going on?
How are you today, Logan? Not too bad. And yourself? I'm doing
awesome. Very nice. Can't complain.
Monday morning, weather's still
unseasonably warm for this time of year. We'll take it as we're getting out of bed here in
southern Minnesota. I didn't even wear a jacket in. I'm like, let's go. Absolutely. So what are
we talking about today for some Monday motivation? We're talking about our energy, and I have a great
quote to start with, Logan. It says, you give life to what you give energy to.
You give life to what you give energy to.
Why is this important to us?
Well, it's sort of like a power plant.
Power plant doesn't have energy.
It really generates it.
So just you and your family and your team are just the same way.
You decide to generate energy.
And actually, our energy determines our success and particularly our effectiveness as leaders.
So really really the bottom
line is the more energy we have the more successful we'll be that's why it's important we're talking
about this today so i suppose you think about um folks first one that comes to mind like for me is
like steve jobs had a lot of energy a lot of passion towards the computer world and obviously
built a multi-billion dollar empire before he uh for his untimely passing. But do you have another example for us?
I do.
I think this happens a lot in sport where I've seen energy win games and championships.
In my book, Beyond Grid, I talk about it.
I call it the law of mojo.
And what I mean by mojo is just motivation.
And it's when we have positive changes in motivation, like more optimism or energy and
more we feel like we have control over the situation.
And in sport, actually research shows that the more positive energy actually increases
performance and negative energy decreases performance.
Oh, I could see that.
Yeah.
If you have somebody on your team that's kind of a Debbie Downer about things, it can kind
of spread like a disease in the locker room.
And next thing you know, everybody's kind of grumbling and not too thrilled about what's going on and kind of amplifies the negative so
what do you recommend we do to increase our energy so i think first is to just decide to be an energy
giver not taker okay and this is what i mean like ask yourself do you bring positive energy or do
you take it away from a situation um do you notice what's great with your team or your family or your spouse? Or do you
notice what's wrong or what's right? And I think about like this morning, you could have woke up
and said, oh, you know, another Monday. Here we go. Or you could have said, let's go. It's Monday.
So really, we have to take an honest and compassionate look at our focus and decide
to change it if we need to. Change it if we need to. And if we need to change it, what's another way we can change and have more energy? So I would say the most important way
to change your energy is our thoughts and our focus determine our energy. So really, energy
starts with changing your thoughts and your focus. Is your perception of an event or situation,
are you seeing it as something that's low energy, like a problem, or high energy,
like an opportunity? So let's say you want to lose weight. Do you see it as an opportunity
or a problem? Or do you have a difficulty with a coworker? Do you see it as a problem or an
opportunity? Or let's say there's an angry customer that comes in today on Monday. Do you
see it as a problem or an opportunity? You can either view it as something that you have to
deal with or something that you get to deal with. Nice. Excellent. An opportunity to sharpen the skills, kind of hone
your craft and doesn't have to just be in sport. It can be in everyday life regardless of what
you're up to. Absolutely. And I've seen even energy change families and leaders. So, you know,
really does apply to everything. So how would you summarize today? I'd say that high performers pay attention to their energy.
They watch their thoughts because they're really loaded with energy.
And when you experience a situation this week that may be as seen as a problem,
I'd challenge you to see it as an opportunity instead.
And what is our power phrase for today?
I generate energy and positive momentum.
I bring energy in each situation, and I am full of enthusiasm,
happiness, and purpose.
I like it.
