Moving beyond your limiting beliefs is a critical first step in your success. It's great to be here. Thanks for having me. Yeah, absolutely. Thanks for coming in today. Today we're talking about something I don't think we've ever talked about on this show today. Over the years that you've been coming in and doing this with us, it's overcoming limiting beliefs. And I was confused at first until I read a little bit
Starting point is 00:00:47 more into what limiting beliefs means. So let's talk about that. What do you mean by limiting beliefs? I mean, beliefs that constrain us in some way, and they're often about ourselves or others or the world. And they're typically kind of broad statements that exist only in our head. And kind of what I mean by that is, have you ever thought or said the following? I'm just not smart enough. I don't have the ability to do that. I don't know enough of the right people to have that kind of success.
Starting point is 00:01:14 If I speak up, no one's going to like me or like what I say, or I'm not important to my team or my company. Okay, so those kind of thoughts and sayings creep into our brain and maybe even come out of our mouths. What do we do to address those limiting beliefs? The key is, is to recognize that you're the person that's holding yourself back from reaching your greater potential. And all of us have limiting beliefs. And, you know, they're really,
Starting point is 00:01:39 the only thing limiting in our lives is our beliefs. So it's really important to address them. And they might seem normal. And sometimes, honestly, we don't even recognize them. But we tend to see them as kind of like facts. But the key is to recognize that they're not. And so moving beyond your limiting beliefs is absolutely a crucial step in your success. All right. So obviously, this is something that can happen to everybody, anybody, and probably does.
Starting point is 00:02:06 But successful people know how to deal with those limiting beliefs, right? Exactly. So how do we handle those if we want to be like those successful people that can do that? Everybody has these limiting beliefs. So I think the key is to work to reduce them so that you're not limiting yourself and your ability. And what the most successful people do is they work to have really strong inner dialogue and a self-talk that allows them to get to where they really want to go and allows them to think productively and powerfully about themselves and about their future. So you're probably not going to say, well, you know,
Starting point is 00:02:37 Sindra just said on TJ and Lisa's show that I shouldn't have limiting beliefs. I'll turn off my limiting beliefs. That just doesn't, you don't just turn it off and it goes away. Exactly. And I would describe it as a daily practice. And I'm going to give you some examples of my limiting beliefs because it's something that I really, really work to just recognize and address them because I know that they're holding me back. So the first thing to do is to recognize it. Right. Like it's to recognize the limiting belief. And I'm doing it again. I'm doing it again. One thing that you could do is today, I'd encourage you to write
Starting point is 00:03:09 down some limiting beliefs you have or write down like one or two of the most strong limiting beliefs that are really holding you back. And then when you're writing it down, notice how it is holding you back. Like, for example, if you think to yourself, gosh, I just can't do anything right. Well, that's going to lead you to just giving up and not taking risks. And you're going to become stagnant because you aren't going out there and taking risks like you could. So notice how it's holding you back. Then replace it with a more productive belief, because I think the key is to recognize that you don't have to believe everything you think. It's not a truth just because you thought it.
Starting point is 00:03:43 And so, you know, you could say, I've done many things right. You know, and each time I learn, I improve. Or one of my limiting beliefs is I'm really bad at remembering people's names. Yeah. So I have started to say to myself, I used to be bad at remembering people's names, but I'm getting better. And every day I am focusing on learning people's names. So it's not like you're lying to yourself, but you're saying, you know, I used to believe, but now, you know, I work to remember people's names because if you start acting like the new belief, for me, I started remembering people's names because it was a focus.
Starting point is 00:04:21 And then I use different strategies because I'm saying, well, I remember people's names. I get it. It's funny how when we bring up a topic on this show, over the course of the week as it goes on, I will notice things like that. We've talked in the past about, like you said, the negative self-talk or failure, for an example, and people get afraid of that.
Starting point is 00:04:40 Well, I don't want to do this because I might fail or it might not turn out the way I want. If you go and research the most successful people in the world, and we've talked about it, Oprah, Michael Jordan, all those people. Many times. And how many times they failed before they finally made it big. And all we think about is their successes. Well, I can't never do that. Right.
Starting point is 00:04:58 Well, how many times did that person fail? And how many times have you even tried along the way? And the people that we think are the most successful. I mean, I was watching the Country Music Awards last night as well. And it's like you're seeing how all these country stars and it's like they failed as many times as they've been successful. So I think the key is to recognize that. And this week, today, when you get to your computer or sometime today before you go to bed, write down at least one or two of your strongest limiting beliefs. And then the key is to recognize, okay,
Starting point is 00:05:27 just as you start talking to yourself in a more productive way, it's not going to necessarily happen overnight, right? But you've got to continue to work on it and repeat it until you no longer believe that limiting belief. All right. So final point to wrap up today before the affirmation, which happens every Monday now with you, which is cool. I like these because you not only get them on the radio, but you'll find them online and on Twitter and on Facebook and all of that stuff too. But a final point on
Starting point is 00:05:47 limiting beliefs. So the key is to break down your limiting beliefs that are holding you back. And these limiting beliefs can seem like invisible barriers that really keep you stuck from reaching your greater potential. So the key is today, work to start addressing those limiting beliefs, make it a daily practice. All right. And what is our affirmation for the week here on a Monday? Today, I choose empowering beliefs so I can choose to reach my greater potential. I choose empowering beliefs to keep me excited and passionate about my life, about my work, and about my sport. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:06:18 That's a good one. And of course, if you need to get that one on a weekly basis, when Cyndra puts it out there, You can follow her on Facebook and on Twitter and through the website. And I'm assuming the website gets you connected to all those social media ports as well. Yes, you can go to drsindra.com. And I do have it on my Facebook page,
Starting point is 00:06:36 so we'll make sure that we share it. And I have that affirmation card on my Twitter page too. Okay, awesome. And this is what you're writing about in the book this week. Yeah, this is what I'm writing about in the book this week. Yeah, that's what I'm writing about. So I'm excited. I'm writing about negativity and limiting beliefs and how to really overcome the stories that we tell
Starting point is 00:06:52 ourselves too often. The negative stories. So I'm excited about it. It's going well. Alright, good deal. Great to hear it and thanks for coming in again.
