Time to check in with Sindra Kampoff. And we talk about positivity to start off your week.
The power of your thinking is what we're talking about. Hi, Sindra.
Hey, Lisa. Thanks for having me today.
Well, what is our quote that we like to start with?
So this is a quote by Oprah. She said, I know this for sure that what we dwell on is who
we become. Ooh, okay, that's deep. What inspired this topic? Well, you know, I work with a lot of
different types of people as a mental performance coach and executive coach. And I hear all the ways
that we can get in our own way. Sometimes we create these barriers without even realizing it.
Or some examples might be, you know, we might say if we're in sales, you know, I'm just from a small town in Minnesota.
There's no way that I can build this job in sales.
Or we might think, well, they're so much more qualified than I am or they're better than I am.
Why should I even try?
Or what will they think if I fail at this?
And the first step of just being and really masking your mindset is being aware of the ways that you might get in your way.
Being aware is so tough.
But why are our thoughts so important to us?
Well, our thoughts drive everything we do.
They determine how we interact with others, how we feel about ourselves.
Generally, if we move towards our goals or not.
And simply put, I'd say that our
thoughts really lead and determine our destiny. And I think because of that, we really do have
to stand guard to our thoughts and our mind, we have to protect our mind. Because we all have
what's called a negativity bias. The negativity bias is something that we it's really, it's hard to realize how much negative stuff we say to ourselves.
Yes. It is.
That to me is just shocking. You've got a practice called the truth meter.
Yeah. So what the truth meter is, is a way for you to be aware of your thoughts and so that you can
be more intentional with your thinking and really counteract that negativity bias where you were
just talking about. And the first step,
and it's really just three quick questions to ask yourself.
And the first question is like, is this thought true?
And we don't always choose our thoughts.
Sometimes they're false.
Many times they're false, to be honest.
Because we have this negativity bias
and we're more likely to pay attention to negative things
and positive things and information.
And sometimes we even seek out negativity.
And so our mind is here to keep us safe, not here to help us be happier, be a peak performer.
So you could just ask yourself this quick question, like, is this thought true?
And what's the second step then in the truth meter?
The second step would be, is this thought serving me?
And so what I mean by serving me is it helping me move towards a bigger and bolder future? You know, is it helping me get to where I want to go? I was reading this study,
Lisa, about business leaders. And the study found that low performing business leaders said that
their thoughts were more focused on their own personal deficiencies, like what was wrong with
them. Whereas high performing leaders and managers said that their focus is more on like external
things to overcome and grow from.
So we want to just make sure our thoughts are really helping us or serving us.
So what do we do at the end?
The last question you could ask yourself is, what thought do I need to believe right now that's going to serve me better?
Meaning, is there a different thought that can keep you going, feel more empowered or gritty. And this is so important because what we talk to ourselves about our experiences is really how we interpret our
experiences and who we become. So we really do have to watch our words, but we can shift our
focus just by asking ourselves, you know, what's a better thought that will serve me right now?
So how would you summarize today for us?
I'd say, you know, if you don't train your mind, you're letting your thoughts happen by chance,
and chance thinking doesn't lead to success. So we have to really stand guard to our mind,
and you can do these three quick, you know, questions in the truth meter to help you think
more powerfully about yourself and your future. What do you have for us for the power phrase,
one of those phrases to get us through the week? I will not believe everything I think and put my
thoughts through the truth meter. I will talk powerfully to myself today. I love it. I will not believe everything I think and put my thoughts through the truth meter. I will talk powerfully to myself today.
I love it.
I will not believe everything that I think, which is totally, you know, counterintuitive
for some of us.
We'll have to relearn that.
Have to relearn it.
CINDRA, how do we get in touch with you if we want more information or want to get the
book or anything like that?
Yeah, absolutely.
