Get ready for a jammed packed episode focused on practical tips to help you get after your goals and step out of your comfort zone. Let's go. Time to check in with Cinder Kampoff, a little positivity and a good message to head you through your week. Usually start off with a quote. This is by LeBron James. He said, greatness is defined by how much you want to put into what
Starting point is 00:00:39 you do. And what inspired your message today? Well, so yesterday I was having a conversation with a pro athlete that I work with, and we were actually talking about LeBron James and how he has this tattoo on his back that reads The Chosen One. And he chose this tattoo because he was featured on Sports Illustrated in 2002 when he was just a high schooler, and they tagged him the chosen one. And as we were talking about this, I had an aha moment. And I thought to myself, by labeling himself as the chosen one, I think that has elevated his game. And the reason is that is because what we think about ourselves, we become. And because he thinks he's the chosen one, he plays like that. He makes decisions like he's one of the best in the game. Well, what do you think the message is for us, even if like most of us don't play basketball or we're not in sports? Yeah, I think by saying that he's the chosen one, he starts acting like it. And so for all of us who maybe aren't in sports or in basketball, this is a powerful
Starting point is 00:01:38 message because what we think about ourselves, we become. And that's why it's so important to be careful what we say to ourselves about ourselves, because become. And that's why it's so important to be careful what we say to ourselves about ourselves, because we become it, sometimes unintentionally or without even realizing it. And it's important to kind of continue to level up our own self-image that we keep on growing and becoming really all that we can be. And this doesn't just relate to sports or basketball, it relates to all areas of our life, if it's work or family, or just what we think about ourselves in general. So let's talk a little bit more about self-image. What exactly do you mean by self-image? I really mean it's the idea we have about our own abilities, our own capabilities, our own personality, our appearance, and it's really how we perceive
Starting point is 00:02:21 ourselves. And it's a number of self impressions built over time. And sometimes we can have, you know, very positive self image, where we have a lot of confidence in ourselves and our thoughts and our actions, or we can have a negative self image where we really doubt our capabilities and our own ideas. So give us an example of people using like a negative or a positive self image. Yeah, I think really having a positive self-image means that you have a good view of yourself. You see yourself as, you know, smart and intelligent and happy and healthy, kind of like when you look in the mirror. But on the other hand, you have a negative self-image if, you know, you're looking in the mirror and thinking you're
Starting point is 00:03:00 unattractive or undesirable or you're not intelligent or stupid or you think that you're nowhere near where you think you're the ideal version of yourself. So that's how I would describe the difference. So then how do we go about maybe like leveling up our self-image or starting to feel better about ourselves? So I love this quote by John Maxwell and he said, if your desire is a 10 but your self-esteem or self-image is a 5, you'll never perform at the level of a 10. You'll perform at a 5 or lower. And so he said,
Starting point is 00:03:31 people never outperform their self-image. And so I think, Lisa, when you ask how do we level this up, I think awareness is always the first important thing and to be aware of what we say to ourselves about ourselves. And then we can really create new beliefs about ourselves with just that idea is really powerful that we can do that. So how do we do that? How do we go about like creating a new identity or a new belief about yourself? Well, I have this morning routine that I've outlined on this website called beyondgrit.com slash morning. And it's really kind of this more mental routine. And it's a part of it is how you talk to yourself about yourself every morning. And I encourage people to ask this, this powerful
Starting point is 00:04:12 question, like, what do you want to believe about yourself to really reach your goals? And what do you need to believe about yourself? And then I encourage people to write those down and say themselves, you know, those statements to themselves every morning. For example, some of mine are, I'm a force for good. I'm a thought leader. I'm perfect just the way I am. And that's how, you know, how I talk to myself. So that's what I become more of.
Starting point is 00:04:37 I can see, like, maybe writing it on a Post-it and sticking it on your mirror every morning and taking a look at that just to keep it in the front of your mind. Good way to wake up the brain. Yeah. How would you summarize today? How would you summarize today for us? Lisa, I'd say you never outperform your self-image and that's really your view of yourself. And so we have to be careful what we say to ourselves about ourselves and to level up your self-image, you could consider new beliefs that you want to hold about yourself and say those statements in the morning, every morning to be intentional about building your own self-image. And what is the power phrase you're going to leave us with this week? I am careful what I say to myself because I'm always listening. I intentionally build my own
Starting point is 00:05:17 self-image. Cinder, how do we get more information? You mentioned a website earlier. Yes, you can head over to cindracampoff.com.
