Time for some motivation. Dr. Cinder Kampoff joining us today. How are you doing, Cinder?
I'm doing great. How are you doing, Lisa?
Excellent. You've got a story to start out today, but you usually start with a quote.
So let's talk about the quote.
The quote is by Bob Proctor. He said,
When you react, you are giving away your power. When you respond, you're staying in control of yourself.
So much of that is needed right now.
What's the story we're going to start with?
We're going to start with a story about Angie's Boom Ticka Pop.
And I bet you've seen that popcorn in the grocery store.
Hopefully you've eaten some of it.
And if you don't know this, it was started here in Mankato.
Angie and Dan Bastin started it in their garage in 2001, and it's now one of the fastest growing
popcorn brands in the world.
And I'm going to start with Angie's story, Lisa, because a few years ago I had her on
my podcast and I was asking her how she stays mentally fueled.
And she referred to a book that we're going to talk about today called Man's Search for
Meaning.
It's by Viktor Frankl. And how this book helped
her really understand her purpose. And she told me, you know, her purpose is all about the team,
the people you bring into the system, the integrity and the quality of the product.
But most important, it's about the relationships, the connections and the people.
So how does this connect with our topic for today?
Well, in this bestselling book that Angie was talking about called Man's Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl, he was a psychologist, and he was in a concentration camp, nearly,
you know, barely survived and lost his whole family, but he was able to, like, develop
his philosophy among these really incredibly brutal, unimaginable conditions. And he said this,
Lisa, he said, between stimulus and response, there is space.
And that space is our freedom and power to choose our response.
In our response lies our growth and freedom.
And so that's really what we're talking about today is like choosing to respond with purpose and intention.
And this helps us grow and better understand ourselves.
And I know you're going to have a strategy to help us do this today.
How do you start?
I would say, you know, first, let's start with like why it's important, because when we respond, we really choose thoughtfulness and we're guided by logic over kind of our emotions. We're really intentional
with our intentions and we decide how we think and how we want to act. So the strategy we're
going to talk about today is three quick steps. It's called pause, consider, respond. Or we're going to say PCR.
So the PCR strategy, pause, consider, and respond.
PCR. What's the PCR strategy?
Okay. So P stands for pause. And that means when something irritates us or triggers us,
we just take a deep breath and pause. And this helps us get our energy to the front part of our brain where we can
think with logic. The C stands for consider. And remember, when we're considering, we want to think
about where our focus is, because that determines how we feel. We want to consider how do we want
to respond right now. And then the R is respond. That's the last step. And this is where we really choose purpose and
intention. We decide how we want to move forward, kind of based on what we value, what's most
important to us. So I can see how that would totally be different than just a reaction,
which seems to be more immediate, right? Absolutely. Really good point.
Yeah. And you've got a final point for us. Yeah. Lisa, I would say, you know, when we increase this space between the stimulus, right, the thing that frustrates us and our response, we're less likely to get our buttons pushed.
We feel more in control of ourselves and we're leading the hardest person that we need to lead, which is ourselves. Oh, you know, as people are listening, I just want you to think about, you know, what pushes your buttons, what triggers you, and how can you use this PCR strategy, you know, at home or maybe in sports or at work?
All right.
Dr. Kampoff, can you summarize for us today?
So this week, I encourage everyone to respond, not react.
And you can keep the PCR strategy in mind.
Pause, consider, and respond.
And when you do that, you really choose thoughtfulness and they're guided by more logic over emotions. You can be intentional with your intentions.
I like that. Intentional with your intentions. What's our power phrase for the week?
I choose to respond with purpose and intention.
