Let's go.
Time to check in with Dr. Cendra Kampoff this morning. And today's topic is all about training
your trust. Cendra, usually start us off with a quote. This is by Robert Tu. He said,
if you're going to trust one person, let it be yourself. All right. So you've got an example
to start us off today. Lisa, I've been working with a lot of elite track and field athletes who are training for the Olympics and specifically the Olympic trials at the end of
June. And obviously you have to qualify through the trials to get to the Olympics, which happens
only every four years. So it can feel like a lot of pressure and there's less opportunities even
to compete before the trials. So they're really needing to train their
trust right now. A trust that they'll be ready by the end of June. And I think we all need to train
our trust as well, that sometimes we can question if we really put in the work. And sometimes we can
doubt ourselves, even though that we have worked really hard. We need to trust ourselves that the
good things will happen and the end results will come the way we want them to.
So how does that exactly connect with our topic for the day?
Well, today we're talking about training our trust.
And trust is something we can train and we should train.
And when I think about what do I mean by trust, it's this belief in yourself, belief in your ability to do something.
And it's helpful in a lot of different ways in our life.
Many times it can be life-changing because it builds our confidence.
Higher trust kind of paves the way for other people to trust us and for us to trust other
people.
And it makes the decision-making just much easier when we trust ourselves.
So today we're going to talk about three ways that we can trust ourselves more.
It was interesting that you are talking about that.
I just did a chat with somebody about imposter syndrome,
and a lot of imposter syndrome, which is like doubting yourself,
sounds like it has a lot to do with training your trust.
Absolutely.
And, you know, we all can experience imposter syndrome.
So just like all of us can kind of doubt ourselves from time to time, too.
So what is the first way that we can train our trust, trust ourselves, like our trust in ourselves?
I'd say first, don't wait for confidence. And what I mean by that is, you know, confidence is really this belief in ourselves and it's connected to our trust.
But the thing we need to remember is that confidence can come from action.
And sometimes even the world's best question their confidence.
And it's actually something we need to nurture.
So first thing is we can act confidently and then the thoughts of confidence will follow.
You know, sometimes, Lisa, people might say, fake it till you become it. And that's
true. So first thing is don't wait for confidence. Act confidently instead. All right. What's another
way we can train our trust? Another way we can train our trust is doubt our doubts. And what I
mean by that is, you know, most of the thoughts that we have that limit us are actually not true
at all. They're really false. And we tend to believe them even when they limit
us. So we need to doubt our doubts. You know, ask ourselves if this thought is even true and then
replace it with a more empowering thought. Maybe something like, you know, everything will come
together in perfect timing. Or I put in the work and the reward will pay off. Or, you know, my hard
work will show in the end. And you said that there were three ways to
trust yourself. What's the last way that we can work on this? I think the last way, Lisa, is to
really be kind to ourselves. You know, when it comes to our inner dialogue that we have in our
own mind, we don't often kind of filter our tone and we're our own worst critics. So really pay attention to that inner dialogue.
Is it empowering and compassionate and patient?
Or is it destructive and critical?
And then communicate through kind of more of a filter that you would communicate to other people with kindness and compassion.
And that's one of the best ways to improve the trust in yourself.
Yeah, that's difficult because you speak to yourself in so much of a more harsh tone
than you would ever speak to anybody else generally.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Can you summarize today for us, Cindra?
Yeah, Lisa, I'd say, you know,
training your trust is actually, you know,
part of building your confidence.
And it's important not just to wait for confidence
and instead act confidently.
And we need to doubt
our doubts. You know, when we're limiting ourselves and not trusting our ability, we can easily doubt
ourselves. So remember that likely what you're saying is not true and is a lie. And the last one
is just to be kind to yourself. Make sure your inner dialogue supports trusting yourself and
being kind to yourself. What is the power phrase for this week?
I train my trust, I act confidently, and my thoughts follow.
