Let's go.
Time to check in with Dr. Sindra Kampoff. Everything's an opportunity and that's our
topic today. So you usually start us off with a quote. Yes, this is by Neapolian Hill. He said,
your big opportunity may be right where you are now. Right where you are right now. And do you
have an example to kick this off today? Well, last week, Lisa, I had this kind of aha moment. And I was in San Diego at the Olympic
Training Center at a USA track and field meet. And I'm one of the sports psychologists helping
our US athletes conventionally train for the Olympics. And I was sitting there in the middle
of the track. And I was just thinking, this is the whole reason I was born.
You know, and after 20 years of studying sports psychology, it seemed to all come together in that moment.
And it made it even more meaningful because I had struggled as a track and field athlete,
and I realized in that moment that the struggle actually led me to help others that day.
So, Cinder, how does this connect with the topic
for today? So, today, Lisa, we're talking about finding the opportunity in everything. And it's
been an idea I've been really trying to practice for a while, especially finding the difficulty in
the opportunity and difficulty, which I think is more difficult. And I think as I stood there on
the track last week, I realized if I wouldn't have struggled 20 years ago, I wouldn't be doing
this work today. And when we see everything as an opportunity, we're looking through this lens
in these big moments in our life, these small moments, difficult moments, easy moments, and even
events in the past or the present or future, which we'll talk about today.
One of the things that I love about talking to you is you always give us these exercises that can help us to get started on that particular process. So what
is the exercise we can use for this? So I would say, you know, I'd encourage everyone to think
about a difficulty they're experiencing right now. And it can be anything. It could be something in
your work or your business or sport or something family related or personal. Maybe, for example,
you're experiencing like a strained relationship with a family member or maybe there's a big opportunity at work that you're nervous about or you're in some
kind of transition.
And then I want you to think about how is the difficulty happening for you, not to you.
And what I mean by for you is it means that you're really seeing the gift that you can
grow and learn.
And when we see it as for you, we're taking you're really seeing the gift that you can grow and learn. And when we see
it as for you, we're taking more of a creator approach. And I think Lisa, the point of this
is that everything in our life is based on the meaning that we give it. And we create meanings
all day long. And so we can choose to give a powerful meaning to any kind of event. And we
want to just do that consciously consciously where we're really conditioning ourselves
to think proactively about the future
and the difficulty and the meaning that we're creating.
And, Cydra, why should we do this exercise?
Well, I think when you're thinking about it,
you know, it's happening for me, you learn from it.
You see that you're a better person
because of the difficulty,
and you're growing, you're learning,
and you're feeling more in control of the situation.
You have kind of more of this inner peace, which can create more powerful energy.
And you're seeing that everything can be turned into a gift.
And the opposite of that, I think, is when you're thinking, well, this is happening to
me, it feels more like a victim approach.
You're taking it personally and you're asking yourself, like, why me?
And that just leads you to being stuck and feeling stuck.
So do you have a final point for us?
Yeah, I would say, you know, consider how you can practice finding the opportunity in past events
that maybe have been difficult or maybe current events that aren't going perfect,
but also future events.
And when we see, you know, things as, you know, everything can be
an opportunity in the future, we're seeing, well, it's okay if it doesn't go perfect. And, you know,
maybe there's, for example, a new project that you have that you're working on, or you're in some
type of transition. And if you see everything as an opportunity, it feels really freeing. You don't,
it doesn't have to go perfectly, and you can be more courageous, and you worry less about making mistakes.
So just consider everything is an opportunity.
Can you summarize today for us?
Sure.
I would say, you know, today we talked about finding the opportunity in everything,
and that we can apply these to any difficulty we've experienced in the past or a current struggle or events in the future that we might be worried about.
And when we see the difficulty is happening for us, we have more energy. or a current struggle or events in the future that we might be worried about.
And when we see the difficulty is happening for us, we have more energy,
we can keep growing, and we can keep learning,
and we just create more powerful energy for ourselves.
And what is the power phrase that we use to get through the week?
I see the opportunity in everything.
Everything is an opportunity.
