Another day to check in with Dr. Sindra Kampoff to find out what's going on, a little motivation.
Starting point is 00:00:32 And today's topic, Sindra, is what do you need to believe about yourself? And you start us off with a quote. This is by Ron Wilhelmham. And he said, you have the power to change your thoughts and your thoughts have the power to change your life. So do you have an example for us today? I do. You know, Lisa, at age 19, Jim Carrey, the actor, moved to Hollywood. And every single night he would drive up to Mulholland Drive and it was sort of like his daily grit session. He would overlook the city and he would think about where he wanted to go. And he said in an interview with Oprah, he said, I would visualize the things coming to me that I wanted, even though I had nothing at the time.
Starting point is 00:01:08 And so in 1990, he had just made $100 in a gig. And so that night, he was, you know, went up to Mulholland Drive, and he took out his checkbook. And he wrote himself a check, like a personal check to himself for $10 million. And he dated it Thanksgiving 1995. And he put it back in his wallet, and every time he would go get groceries or get gas, he would look at this check. And so after really big box office hits like Ace Ventura, maybe you watched that or The Mask, Jim was actually offered $10 million for his role in Dumb and Dumber. And he received this role right before Thanksgiving 1995, like he envisioned. Wow, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:01:52 That's crazy to think it's like almost like he manifested it, right? Exactly. Yeah, exactly. And I think really the power is that he used his own mind to create his future. You know, and I think for all of us to experience success in our field or our sport or our business, we can really follow his lead. So we all really need this vision for the future like he got clear on it. And then we need to make intentional decisions every day once we get clarity on that vision. But we're not often very clear on where we want to go. And so when
Starting point is 00:02:22 we really do get clarity on that, it helps us just decide what opportunities to pursue. So I think the real question is, you know, for everyone who's listening is, you know, what is your vision for your own future? So, Cinder, what do we do when we get a clear vision, when we get clear on what our vision is? Well, I think once you get clarity on that vision, you know, the next thing I would encourage you to do is ask yourself, what do you need to believe about yourself to reach that vision? So Jim Carrey, for example, had to believe that he was funny, right, that he was a great actor, and that he believed that opportunities were coming to him. And really, Lisa, just the belief is a thought repeated over time. So it's important for us to consider what we need to believe about ourselves because what we believe about ourselves we become.
Starting point is 00:03:06 So, for example, I worked with some of the Olympians in Tokyo and I asked one of the Olympians I work with, I said, what do you need to believe to do well in Tokyo? And she said, I need to believe that I perform on demand, that I perform in moments that matter and I'm strong and fast and confident. So you know, for everyone listening, I would just ask you to think about, you know, what do you need to believe about yourself to make your own dreams happen? So what would you tell us to do to apply that same idea to our lives? Well, I think one way that you could do that is to ask yourself, you know, what are some I am statements that you could use to help you reach that vision. And, you know, whatever we attach I am to, we eventually become. We kind of find things to confirm that and we live that way.
Starting point is 00:03:58 So, for example, Lisa, if you said, you know, I'm a procrastinator and you believe that, you know, you would develop an identity as a procrastinator. We really want to be careful with what we're saying to ourselves that, you know that whatever we attach I am to really helps us reach our vision. So you could tell yourself something more powerful like I am confident or I'm smart or I'm strong or I am enough are great examples to help you reach that vision. It's kind of like what you say to yourself you become or be careful. What's the saying? It's be careful what you say to yourself you're or be careful. What's the saying? It's be careful what you say to yourself. You're listening. Exactly. Yep. Be careful what you say to yourself because you're always listening. Right, right. Cinder, can you summarize today for us? Sure. I would say today we talked about getting clear on your own vision and then deciding,
Starting point is 00:04:38 you know, what you need to believe about yourself to reach that vision. And we talked about some statements to really help you do that. And I would just encourage everyone to think about what are some thoughts you could say to yourself every morning, like help you reach that vision to help you develop the belief that you need to move forward with whatever you want in the future. I'm assuming that our power phrase this week is going to have something with I am in it then, right? Exactly. So the phrase today is, I think I am to help me reach my goals and dreams. I think I am to help me reach my goals and dreams. All right. Sindra Kampoff, how do we get in touch with you or follow along with your work?
