And Cinder, we're talking about setting goals
Starting point is 00:00:31 for the new year. You start us off with a quote. By Les Brown. He said, your goals are the roadmaps that guide you and show you what is possible for your life. So you have an example to kick us off with? Well, I think this last year has brought more change and uncertainty, maybe more unpredictability than we even thought. I think last year at this time, we thought the pandemic would be behind us, and it's still impacting us. And I read recently, Lisa, this age has been called the age of the great resignation, because there's been a lot
Starting point is 00:01:01 of change and people are changing jobs. So I think this year we just have to be more mindful of our goals this year as we step into the new year and really ask ourselves, you know, what gives us energy? What's going to keep us inspired this year? And today we're going to talk about three things to keep in mind as you decide what your goals are for 2022. So do you think that we should set resolutions or goals? Definitely, I think we should set goals
Starting point is 00:01:25 over resolutions. You know, just the word resolutions, people kind of think of it more short-lived. And ideally, we want to just set three goals for our year. And the research why goals are important over resolutions, because what the research shows is that, you know, the more successful people are goal-oriented. They do have a vision for themselves and their future. Goals have been shown to direct our focus and help us be persistent in adversity. And they help fuel our desire. So that's really why we wanted to set some goals for the year.
Starting point is 00:02:00 What else do you suggest? Like, what's a strategy? Well, the first strategy we want to do is what we're going to call today, ink it, don't just think it. And what I mean by that is write our goals down, don't just think about them. And there was a study done 30 years ago that asked Harvard students how many of them had their goals written down, and only 3% did. But what they found 30 years later is those 3% made more money combined than the 97% that didn't. So that just kind of shows you the importance of writing your goals down and writing them more positively than negatively, meaning write down what you want to accomplish, not what
Starting point is 00:02:37 you don't want to accomplish. And what is the second strategy? So we want to set multiple goals, but not too many. So the ideal number for the year is about three. So that gives us, you know, a good amount to focus on that we're not having too many, like, competing goals. But one can just put a lot of pressure on us. So three, ideally, is what we want to write down. And so do you have another strategy for us?
Starting point is 00:03:02 Yeah, I would say, you know, one of the things that a lot of people do is they, you know, might write their goals down, but not really plan out how they're going to accomplish it. So I think what's really important is that when you're writing your goals out for the years, also write a plan. You know, what do you want to accomplish weekly or maybe monthly to accomplish that goal? So let's say you want to lose some weight. Okay, what would be, you know, the smaller monthly goal? So let's say you have a big goal of like writing a book. What would be your monthly goals to get back down? And a final point for us when we think about it? Yeah, I'm just going to encourage people to think about what they'd like to accomplish for the
Starting point is 00:03:38 upcoming year. Maybe reflect on 2021 at the same time and set some goals, write them out to keep you motivated and focused for the year to come. Can you summarize today for us, Cindra? Sure. Besides the high performers, they do set goals because it gives them direction and focus. And so this week, get some clarity on exactly what you're going after, write those goals down, and then keep them top of mind throughout the year. What is our power phrase this week? I am committed to my goals and dreams in 2022. All right. It's all about setting goals for 2022 as we move forward in the year.
