Time to check in with Cinder Campoff this morning. What to do when you feel stuck? Cinder,
you usually start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Dolly Parton. She said,
if you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.
I love Dolly Parton and everything she says. What inspired this particular topic today?
So Lisa, I speak around the country,
and I work with a lot of people one-on-one, and I've been really paying attention to
what am I noticing, and I'm noticing that a lot of people just feel stuck. Like, and what I mean
by that is, especially during the pandemic, there's just a lot of negativity and change,
and I notice people stuck in a wide variety of ways. Like, they're stuck not moving towards
their goals. They're stuck in a negative mindset. They can feel stuck where they're not feeling like they're living on purpose. So
there's lots of different ways that we feel stuck. And today we're going to talk about three
mindset shifts that we can use when we feel stuck. Really interesting that you noticed that because
I think if we all stop and self-reflect, a lot of us will notice the same thing. What's the first
mindset shift for you? Well, I think the first mindset shift is to really see setbacks and adversity as a given.
And what I mean by that, it's really about how we respond to them that makes a difference.
And our meaning, you know, our life is really about the meaning that we give events.
So the key is next time you're facing adversity or a setback, or maybe you're feeling that way right now, or you're in a setback, know that the difficulty is happening for you and not to you. And that's just an easy way,
you know, to change the language that makes a really big difference. And when we see it as
happening for us, we consider the gift and maybe how we're growing and learning through it. And
we take more of a creator approach. We focus on the gains instead of the setback.
I love that. It's happening for you, not to you.
What am I supposed to learn from this?
It's pretty powerful.
Yes.
What is the second shift in mindset?
Well, I think the second shift is that when we're thinking that going after our goals is going to be easy,
and when we think it's going to be easy, it really leaves us kind of ill-prepared.
The key is we really want to see that anything that we're really working towards is
going to be difficult and it's going to be difficult to achieve. And when we think it's
going to be easy, we might get intimidated and give up. So it's easier to really tap into our
grit when we're anticipating the difficulty. So a few questions to think about is, you know,
what difficulties are you experiencing right now and how can you approach those difficulties? How
can you see them again as maybe a gift and how can you approach those difficulties? How can you see them, again, as maybe a gift?
And how can you just keep on pivoting and adjusting so you don't quit?
Really helpful to remember and know that things are going to be difficult,
so you don't expect everything to be easy.
What is the next mindset shift?
The next mindset shift is to know that we will get off track while reaching our goals.
And I have a really good friend named Shannon Huffman Paulson
who wrote a book called The Grit Factor.
She's actually the first woman to fly an Apache helicopter for the U.S. Army.
And she talked about how when a pilot is just a little off course,
over time they get way off at the end towards their destination.
So the key is that thinking about going after our goals is not a
straight line. And we want to keep on pivoting and adjusting and know that we're going to,
we will get off course. But we want to make sure that we're adjusting right at the beginning and
not towards the end when we're at a completely different destination. So just a few questions
for people to think about how can you adjust right now to keep moving towards your goals?
And when you're faced with an obstacle, what's your plan just to overcome it so you can keep motivated and excited?
Sandra, do you have a final point for us today?
Yes.
A final point would be know that you're not alone when you feel stuck.
You know, it's a difficult time, I think, right now where things are constantly changing in our world and in our life.
And when we feel stuck, however, you know, it's mostly to do with our mindset, how we're viewing the situation, how we're responding.
And so remember, you can always choose a different perspective that's going to give you energy.
How do you summarize today for us?
We can feel stuck in a variety of ways.
The key to feeling unstuck is to change our perspective.
And you have a few options, including we talked today about remembering.
It is how you respond to adversity that shapes the opportunity. And remember, it's best to know that your goals aren't going to be
easy to go after. And last, you know, it's normal to get off track. So how can you be a pilot of
your own life and shift to get back on track, on course? I like that, a pilot of your own life.
What is the power phrase that you're going to use going through this week?
Each day, I master my mindset
and see the opportunity in the difficulty. Cinder, where do people get in touch with you to follow
