Let's go.
Dr. Cinder Kampoff joining us on the phone today, and we're talking about how to lead with
intention. Cinder, you start us off with a quote. I love this quote by John Maxwell,
and he said, to lead yourself, use your head, to lead others, use your heart.
So what inspired this topic for you today? Well, I think about this topic of leadership,
and sometimes people say, well, I don't really lead.
But actually, everyone is a leader.
First, we lead ourselves, and then we do lead others.
You know, for example, no matter how old you are, you might lead members of your family, or you lead your friends at school, or at work, you might be a leader, right?
In all ways, you know, we're all a leader in some way.
And we really need to lead ourselves first before we lead others. And that means leading with our
own mindset. And when we're leading ourselves first, we lead more, you know, people more
powerfully. And so how do we think about that and make that an intention to lead ourselves?
So Lisa, I spend a lot of time coaching people one-on-one.
And the first conversation I have with a lot of people when I coach them is we talk about this idea of leading intentionally.
And it really is about, you know, considering how you want to lead yourself first.
What does that actually mean to you?
And when we become more aware of how we
influence others, we can lead ourselves more intentionally. We understand our strengths,
maybe the areas we want to keep growing in. But this idea is called self-leadership. And it's
really, you know, we really need to lead ourselves first before we can really influence people the
way we want to. And so what do we do when we're leading intentionally? What is it that we're
doing? I think the first step that we really need to think about is we do when we're leading intentionally? what is the vision we're going after? And we decide maybe even how we want to be remembered by those people that we lead.
And then we take action really intentionally or purposefully towards that.
So what's the first thing that we do?
The first thing that you'd want to do is think about what does it mean to you to be an intentional leader?
Like, what does it mean to you to be intentional with either leading yourself or
leading others? And that's the first step. And then there's three other questions we could ask
ourselves. We could ask ourselves, you know, what values do we want to guide us? How do we want to
be described by those that we lead? And then, you know, what's the first step that we can do to lead
in that way? And then what do you do next? So the next I would say is to think about,
all right, you know, what is, how do you want to lead intentionally? Where's the gaps?
Meaning where are you now compared to where you want to be? And then just, you know, every day,
take one step towards closing that gap. And sometimes we can feel really overwhelmed
when we're thinking about, you know, intentionally showing up the way that we want to, but just,
just take one step forward towards your vision today.
Keep moving forward.
So how do you summarize today for us then?
Well, today we talked about, you know, everyone is a leader,
even though that you might not think you are.
And so to be the most effective leader you can be, we first have to lead ourselves.
And that means, you know, being intentional with it,
and then we can lead
others more powerfully. And when reflecting on what's important to you, you can just lead with
more, you know, with a stronger ability to really lead the way that you want to lead.
Cinder, you usually leave us with a power phrase, something that can help us take us
through with this idea. What is the power phrase today?
I show up in this world with What is the power phrase today? I show up in this world with intention
