Starting point is 00:00:31 our week. We've got a whole topic about self-doubt. A couple ways to address self-doubt. Sindra, start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Brian Tracy, and he said, fear and self-doubt have always been the greatest enemies of human potential. Fear and self-doubt. So what inspired your topic today? Well, what inspired it is actually as I work with some pro athletes and I also work with business leaders and the successful entrepreneurs, and you might think that those people who are really successful don't experience self-doubt, but it's actually something that we all experience.
Starting point is 00:01:04 And I found that especially really when we're pushing ourselves and getting outside of our successful, don't experience self-doubt. But it's actually something that we all experience. And I found that especially really when we're pushing ourselves and getting outside of our comfort zone, that the self-doubt can be louder. And so today I want to just normalize it that everyone can experience self-doubt. And the key really is to engage in daily mental conditioning so that we experience self-doubt less. So why is it so important for us to overcome our self-doubt? Well, when we experience self-doubt, we stay stuck. We don't move forward to our goals. And sometimes we don't even dream big or think about those big goals. But I know one thing for certain, especially working with people one-on-one,
Starting point is 00:01:40 is that when we level up our thoughts, we can also level up our life and our sport and our business. And so, you know, one of the most important things is really about how we're talking to ourselves about ourselves and about our experience. And so we interpret, you know, our lives throughout through our self-talk. So we really have to watch our words and how we describe things because that can contribute to our self-doubt. Sandra, what's the first step in then addressing our self-doubt? I think the first step is to not believe everything you think. You know, your brain's role really is to keep you safe and watch out for negativity.
Starting point is 00:02:16 And so noticing our automatic negative thoughts, and I say the word automatic because they are automatic, I think is really the first step in reducing your self-doubt. And awareness is always the first step in really being able to reduce that self-doubt, you know, listening to your mind non-judgmentally and deciding not to believe all of those automatic negative thoughts, you know, thoughts like I'm not good enough or it can't be done are just some examples of automatic negative thoughts. So what's one way we can address self-doubt? One way we can address it is remember that everything in our life is based on the meaning we give it. And so all day long, we're meaning making machines, you know, we choose the meaning to a future event or even a past event. And sometimes when we replay past events
Starting point is 00:03:01 through our mind, and we repeat them over and over again, that's what reduces or increases the negativity and leads to self-doubt. So remember that we can consciously and proactively choose any meaning that we want based on an event. And so we can always see, you know, these difficulties as opportunities or ways to grow, or we can turn everything into a gift. And so when we use this perspective, we're less likely to beat ourselves up when things don't go perfectly and we're less likely to experience self-doubt. So, Cyndra, you talk about shaping our identity to overcome our self-doubt.
Starting point is 00:03:33 What do you exactly mean by that? Well, what I mean by this is one of the most powerful ways we can talk to ourselves is with a statement that starts with I am, because that statement I am shapes your identity and who you are and so we can consciously actually shape our identity and so the key to remember here is what we think about ourselves we become and so we can decide to shape our identity based on what we say after the I am
Starting point is 00:03:59 statement so for people who are listening just think about you know what do you need to believe about yourself to reach your goals to reduce your self self-doubt, maybe even to be a better leader? And so maybe some of those statements might be like, I am smart and creative or I'm capable or I am resourceful or I'm gritty or I am enough. And those are the things that we want to just be really careful about because whatever we attach I am to, we become more of. Do you have a final point for us today, Sandra? I would say, you know, high performers don't hope their thinking works for them. They make their thinking work for them. And so the key is to be really intentional and purposeful and conscious about what we're saying to ourselves, especially about ourselves and our experience. Cindra, what's this week's power phrase?
