Let's go.
Time to check in with Cyndra Kampoff today. And our topic is how to show gratitude more often.
Cyndra, start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Oprah. And she said,
be thankful for what you have, you'll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you
don't have, you will never ever have enough. So what inspired your topic today?
Well, I was reading a stat recently that according to Gallup, about 50% of people report leaving their job to get away from their
manager to improve their overall life. I thought that was really high. So, you know, we typically
might think it's maybe because of job responsibilities or, you know, money, salary,
but a lot of it has to do with how they feel appreciated by their manager.
And I think today's topic is really important because we can also put positivity and gratitude,
which we're talking about today, in the top of our workplace culture,
and we can do this to reduce turnover, which is really happening at a high rate right now.
And so we talk about gratitude. How do we show
gratitude more often? Well, so a researcher named Robert Emons actually called gratitude or stated
that gratitude was like a sense of wonder or thankfulness or appreciation for life. And so
I think the ways we can do that is counting our own blessings, noticing how fortunate we are and,
you know, how fortunate we are to have the circumstances that we have and being thankful for people in our life, even at work and the employees that we lead
in our family and our sports team.
And at the heart of gratitude is appreciating your life for what it is and appreciating
the people around you, really being in the present and appreciating them.
So why is today's topic so important to us?
Well, we actually know that gratitude, especially when it's an intentional practice, is connected to our own performance and our own grit.
So we can intentionally practice gratitude each day just to help us really balance out this negativity bias that we all have.
And we can appreciate the small things that people do when sometimes they're unrecognized, especially in the workplace. You can also express
gratitude just by, you know, being grateful for past moments and obstacles, even though that
they can be difficult because we can learn a lot from them. So, Cinder, what's one way that we can
practice gratitude more often? I think especially in the workplace, we can provide praise and
positive comments. And we want to do this that, you know, when they're specific and genuine
and really relevant to the situation. But this is important because we that, you know, when they're specific and genuine and really relevant to the situation.
But this is important because we can, you know, really provide more positive emotions and allow people to experience more positive emotions even at work.
Because gratitude allows even leaders to be more forgiving and empathetic and helpful.
And we can, you know, when we show our gratitude, we're less likely to be anxious or envious or lonely.
And so practicing gratitude actually improves our job satisfaction?
It actually does.
There's a research study to show that actually when we express gratitude, it helps us continue to improve our own personality trait of having gratitude.
But also allows us to experience more positive comments from other
people. And we can actually embed kind of gratitude in our organization. So as we're thinking about
this, and as people are listening, you know, I'm just going to encourage them to think about how
could you infuse gratitude in your business, or in your organization, or in your family,
or maybe even your support team even more. So what about life events that are difficult for us to do? Are we supposed to be grateful for those too? Well, I think it's important to actually
be angry or sad or frustrated about those because emotions are really, you know, help us provide
information about what's important to us. And they're actually really important to feel. But we
can also take, you know, a resilient perspective and look and see what we're learning and how we're growing and seeing the gifts of the situation.
And I think we can do that and express attitude even or gratitude even when it's difficult.
So, Cinder, how would you summarize today for us?
Well, regularly practicing gratitude is actually really powerful because it has a long lasting impact on our life.
It's more connected to health and we're more optimistic and resilient. So remember, you
know, whenever you're focusing on things that you don't have, you know, instead turn your focus to
what you do have and be grateful for the situation. We can actually improve our own resilience by being
grateful. What is this week's power phrase that we use moving forward? I choose to intentionally
practice gratitude each day. I focus on what I'm grateful for to stay fueled and excited for my own life. Cinder, if people want to get in touch with you, follow along with
