Time to check in with Sindra Kampoff today, and we talk about how to change your outlook.
Sindra, start us off with one of your quotes.
This one is my favorite quote of all time by Wayne Dyer.
He said, if you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.
So what exactly are we talking about today?
This sounds familiar to me like it's from your book.
Yes, it is actually in the section on practice number three, mastering your thinking in my book, Beyond Grit. And we're
talking about a tool called reframing. And when we reframe, we change our viewpoint. So we're
intentionally choosing to see circumstances or challenges through a different lens. And I think
this is important because the world is really what we make of it. So we can change our lens at any
time. For example, let's say you have a disappointment at work or in your
life, you can choose the mindset to see the situation as something you can grow from or
learn from. And why is it important that we reframe? Well, I think it helps us keep going
despite obstacles and hardships, and we all can experience them. And so it also helps us kind of
overcome the obstacles that can get in our way, such as like, let's say, a poor performance or
a loss of a job or a loss of a client or income, or even in sports, let's say like, you know,
the missed shot or a strikeout at the end of the game. And so the key is, is that when you reframe,
you don't ignore the difficulty, but instead you see the circumstances differently than what kind
of it appears on the surface. And I think this is
important because, you know, difficult events and obstacles can really help you learn more about
yourself and what's important to you and ultimately your own desire to reach your goals and your
vision.
Cinder, can you give us any examples of when we can use reframing?
Yeah, great question. So I would say like any time that you feel like you've experienced a setback and let's think of this setback as a comeback.
So really any difficulty can be viewed as an opportunity.
So let's say boss provides you difficult feedback or again, you lose a big client or sale or, you know, right now the market is kind of up and down.
So it can impact your bottom line.
Or let's say you're experiencing a difficulty
in a relationship or you're in a cranky mood. These are all times where you can reframe.
So how do we actually do that reframing? Well, the key is to really take a step back and choose
the frame or lens. And it doesn't mean, again, that you ignore the difficulty or obstacle,
but you're choosing a different perspective. So by looking at this different frame, you could
just ask yourself, what's another way of looking at this? Or how can I challenge this thought or this belief or
this assumption that's allowing me to see the situation in this particular way? And so again,
looking to see how the obstacle is helping you learn more about yourself or the situation or
your desire to reach your goals. So the key is to shift your perspective and view
each difficulty as an opportunity to learn and grow. Lisa, I know this is something we've talked
about before, but it's really being able to see the situation as happening for you, not to you.
And for you just means that there's a gift or an opportunity inside of it.
Something to learn, definitely. Can you summarize today for us?
Sure. I would say that high performers use
reframing daily. They don't ignore the difficulties, but they're seeing the situation from a different
perspective and they're looking at how the obstacle is helping them. And this helps them feel more
empowered and motivated to keep going and doing good work in their life and in their job and in
their sports. And what's the power phrase that we're going to use this week? I use reframing regularly to help me stay passionate
and charged for my goals and my life.
I see a setback as a comeback.
I see a setback as a comeback.
