Checking in with Cinder Campoff today, finding your reason for being. That sounds like a big
one we're going to tackle today. Cinder, you usually start us off with a quote.
I love this quote by Hector Garcia. He's an author and he said,
a key guy is different for all of us, but one thing we have in
common is that we're all searching for meaning. Ikigai. All right, what are we talking about today?
Well, we're talking about this concept I ran across several years ago called ikigai,
and it's a Japanese term that loosely translates to reason for being. And according to those born
on Okinawa, an island,
aikigai refers to the reason we get up in the morning and some people have found their aikigai
while others are still searching for it
but I think the key is that we all carry it within us.
And so what does it take to find it?
I think it takes reflection and awareness
and just really understanding what your desires are
and since I've encountered the concept several years ago, awareness and just really understanding what your desires are.
And since I've encountered the concept several years ago, I've worked to incorporate it in my own business and I work with people one-on-one.
They've incorporated it into their lives and businesses.
And generally, when you feel like you understand your Aikigai, you're happier and more satisfied.
And it's really this balance between these four areas.
What you love, what you're good
at is the second one. Number three, what the world needs. And number four, what you can be paid for.
Oh, that's really interesting. I actually was reading an article and it was a Japanese man
that said, we don't really retire, we just change what we do. And it listed those things,
it listed those exact things, but it was talking about like a post-career move and what to do. And it listed those things. It listed those exact things, but it was talking about
like a post-career move and what to do. I love it. That's really interesting.
Because it could just be at different areas in your life too. You could apply it.
Well, why is finding it important? Well, I think really to live your best life and to
be fueled and happy. I think it's really helping you understand what
you're passionate about and what you uniquely can offer the world. And then I think it's about
expressing that passion. And one way to maybe think about your Aikigai is think about a time
in the past where you were so engrossed in what you were doing that you lost track of time.
That gives you a clue really at what your Aikigai might be and what you're positioned really to provide for the world and what's going to give you energy and passion.
So, Sandra, how would you tell us to apply this idea to ourselves?
Well, I think to apply Aikigai, I think the first thing to do is to really answer those four questions.
What do you love?
What are you good at?
What does the world need?
And what could you be paid for?
And you could just imagine it like three or four circles in each of these questions. And then when
they overlap in the middle, you're a key guy. And that's what you're uniquely positioned to offer
the world. Can you give us an example? Sure. When I apply it to myself, I think about I love mindset
training, and I love reading and learning and big ideas and
guiding other people. And what I'm good at is providing people really tangible strategies and
tools that are backed by research. And I think what the world needs is strategies to get out of
their own way and to live with more courage and less fear. And what I can be paid for is things
like speaking and writing and coaching and workshops and mastermind groups.
So that's how I apply it to myself in that middle area of how all these come together
is my Aikigai.
And then can you summarize today for us so we can all try to do this for ourselves?
Yeah.
Thank you, Lisa.
I would say, you know, we all have this need to matter and provide and guide for other
people.
And so our deepest satisfaction really comes from
how we can make a difference in the world. So I'm going to encourage everyone to think about
their Aikigai and answer those four questions today. What do you love? What are you good at?
What does the world need? And what could you be paid for? And what is the power phrase for this
week? I know my reason for being and get connected to it. I live with my purpose each day.
