Let's go.
Hey, it's time to check in with Sindra Kampoff this morning. And Sindra, we're talking about
how to take 100% responsibility for your life. I like this one. Start us off with a quote.
I like this quote by Jack Canfield. He said, find success by taking responsibility for your life.
Learn how to take 100% responsibility.
So what exactly are we talking about today when it comes to taking 100% responsibility?
Well, about two years ago, I attended a day-long training with Jack Canfield. And Jack wrote the
Chicken Soup for the Soul book, which you probably are familiar with, and one of my favorite books
called The Success Principles. And within the first hour, he was talking about responsibility.
And I thought to myself, well, I already take 100% responsibility
because this is a fundamental concept in my book, Beyond Grit.
It's part of what I teach.
But then my eyes were opened because Jack had us turn to someone we didn't know
and answer the same prompt over and over again for about three to four minutes.
And it was this prompt, if I were to take 5% more responsibility in my life, I would. And I almost
couldn't believe what came out of my mouth. I thought, well, I would eat healthier every day.
I would run every day. I would be more patient with my boys. I would show my husband more love.
And I thought in my mind that I had already been taking 100% responsibility.
But I think Jack's exercise made me realize that I wasn't taking 100% responsibility really in my heart.
So what does it mean to be 100% responsible?
Well, it means taking full responsibility for everything that you can control.
So really focusing on the things you can control, such as your attitude, your preparation, your effort, your attention,
your actions, and full responsibility can seem extreme. But to me, that means that you know
that you produce the results in your own life and in your own business and other parts of your life,
like your relationships and your sport and your school. And so taking 100% responsibility for the things you can control is what that means.
What are we responsible for exactly?
Well, we're responsible for the quality of our life and the relationships that we build
and ultimately the career and maybe the business that we build if we're a business owner.
And so you can take responsibility for
your actions, your beliefs that guide you every day, the thoughts that you accept as true,
maybe even the images you hold in your own mind. And I think what's helpful to think about when
we're talking about 100% responsibility is that we really are responsible for the success that we
go after and that we produce in our own life.
So, Cyndra, how is this idea actually connected to the success that we have?
Well, we know that the most successful entrepreneurs and business leaders and salespeople, for example,
they take 100% responsibility for the past and for their future.
They know it's their choices that have led them to where they are today,
and they see their vision really clearly.
And they know that they control their own destiny.
So no matter if you are in a career right now
or you're working to step into your career,
I think realizing that we each take responsibility for the life that we design
and what we end up doing is really key.
And it's actually difficult to practice, but it's really key to our own success.
How do you encourage us to do that then?
Well, I would encourage all of us to think about what does it mean for you to take 100% responsibility?
And I'd encourage you to think about just like Jack asked me to do,
if you would take 5% more responsibility than you're taking right now, what would that look like?
What would you do differently?
And, you know, maybe what part of your life can you take, you know, just 5% more responsibility for?
All right.
Cinder, can you summarize today for us?
Yeah, I would say today we talked about taking 100% responsibility for all parts of our life, which is really essential for our success.
And I think one thing that people could do is just at the end of their day is laying in bed.
You could take what's called the responsibility test.
Just ask yourself, you know, did I take 100% responsibility today?
If not, show yourself some compassion and remember that you're human and tomorrow's a new day
and you can
take responsibility for your life tomorrow. What is the power phrase this week?
I take 100% responsibility for my own success in my life. And, Cyndra, if people are interested
