Being present with the process
Starting point is 00:00:30 is our topic. Cinder, start us off with a quote. I love this quote by Eric Thomas. He said, follow love with the process and the results will come. So what exactly is it that we're talking about today being present with the process? Well, I really believe in dreaming big to allow us to step into our potential. But when we're really dreaming big and building our career and pushing forward, it can really be easy to spend too much time planning for the future. And sometimes this future-based thinking can motivate us and excite us, but it also can lead to feeling a lot of pressure and anxiety and fear. For example, I had a client I work with who spent a lot of time thinking about his bold vision,
Starting point is 00:01:11 and his anxiety prevented him just from making progress because his vision felt so far away. So I want to talk about the nuances in that today. Well, you work with the best of the best. So what do you see them doing? I found that the world's best are able to choose when they focus on their vision and their dream. And then when they focus on the process, and they're really strategic about when they apply their energy. And so they're able to tap into their vision for motivation and direction. But day to day, they focus on the small tasks, or today, what we're going to call is the process to help them build their career and their business and even their sport performance. What do you mean by the process? So I mean just these small things that we need to do
Starting point is 00:01:50 to reach our vision or our goals in our life or our business. And the process is what we do day in and day out to be successful. We really want to get clear on that. And to do that, we want to break down our goal and focus on what it takes to get there. And I think this really requires, you know, daily discipline as well as just focusing on the fundamentals, the small things we need to do each day. So do you have like an example for us to learn from? Sure. So here's an example of a financial planner, let's say, who is building their business to reach their year-end goals. And let's say they can win a trip to Hawaii, funded by the corporate office, and if they get a certain amount
Starting point is 00:02:25 of clients during the year. And so the trip and the number of clients is the outcome. That's the future-based goal. That's really what they're working towards. But the daily task is what really they need to implement to get to the end goal. That's the process. And when they need motivation, they can focus on the trip to Hawaii. But if they focus too much on that trip, they might get frustrated because it can feel so far away. So how do we apply that to our lives? Well, the habit of really focusing on the process can be applied to any goal.
Starting point is 00:02:53 So let's say in your job you want to increase revenue or improve employee retention, or let's say you want to go after a big sports goal this fall. So to consider your process, you want to write down your goal for the year or for the season and then why you want it. That's really your desire. And then you want to just choose really outlining the steps to focus on things that you can control. What are the steps you can control? That's the process that you need to follow to achieve your goals. And that's the
Starting point is 00:03:20 daily tasks you need to complete. And why is this important for us to do? Well, I think in general, if we kind of summarize today, we want to think about that big vision to give us energy and motivation, but day-to-day we want to focus on the process because that decreases stress and pressure and anxiety. And when we focus on the process, we're able to be more persistent, more passionate. We're ultimately likely to stay more in the present moment. And I
Starting point is 00:03:45 think you're going to think less about failure and more likely to try new things. You'll be able to stay more courageous in the moment, focused on the process. And what is the power phrase that you'll lead us through this week with? I take my goals one step at a time, focused on the process. Being present with the process, our topic today.
